Basketball basket. Standard dimensions of a basketball backboard

Oh sport, you are the world!

There is nothing to do at the dacha, just bend metal, barbecue, drink beer.
We need to get involved in sports, both for ourselves and for the children.

True, to do this you will first have to “bend the metal” and celebrate this with beer and barbecue.

In the next episode of the "Made of Metal" project - make a basketball backboard.
A collaboration between me and my father.

Batko studied the standards for the height and dimensions of a basketball backboard, made the wooden backboard itself, painted it, made thumbscrews, and installed a post. Well, he also made critical comments about the metal part.

I came up with all the metal parts and welded the metal.

01. First, I sit down at the computer and figure out a drawing for fastening the shield and the pole itself.

The original plan was to place the ring in a different place and pull it with a solid hitch to the nearest tree. But there turned out to be a lot of roots there and they decided to install it in free flight and without a tie, which is why the ring at the top of the post remained rudimentary only in the drawing. The diagonals that are not in the drawing (green) were also canceled. We decided that the rigidity of the wooden shield and metal fastening would be enough to prevent “walking around”.

I also changed the method of strengthening the outrigger elbow during the move. Not a corner as in the drawing, but two stripes on the sides, see in the photo below.

A 5 cm profile was used for the post, a 6 cm profile was used for the bracket strung on the post. A strip was welded inside to prevent play.
Everything that is adjacent to the wooden panel is a 25 mm corner.

Important: the ring must be universal for both adults and children of different heights. Therefore, a height shift system was made.

02. The main large elements are welded: a pillar, an elbow, two solid fuel boosters of the stepson. The top edge of the pillar and stepsons is beveled: for rainfall drainage and for beauty.

03. More different types

05. There is a strip welded inside the elbow pipe. At the top of the hole.

06. The shield fixation system has been completed. No, this is not a bottle of Zatetsky Hus beer, this is gasoline.

07. Stepchildren are welded. There was an error in the calculations. It was assumed that the stepsons would strengthen the pillar against swinging, but they attached them lower than necessary. Further on in the photo you will see that they protrude quite a bit from the ground. It would be possible to raise it 30-40 cm higher. But now the pillar still sways when playing.

08. The heels are welded into the part that goes underground.

10. Everything is painted

12. Hole

13. Leave it like this for a couple of days and you can continue. Part of the pillar is unpainted, because... There was no putty for metal, putty the seams. Putty was purchased in addition, puttied and painted a little later.

14. Up!

15. Shield assembly.

16. Done!

17. Now the ring is at its lowest height. Even lower than calculated, because one hole is not used (see the vacant thumbscrew). The change of height occurs with the help of one man-power on a stepladder.

19. The village open basketball championship has begun!

To play basketball, a court is required, along the short edges of which structures with

baskets. The dimensions and shield must meet certain requirements. These elements, first of all, are made so strong as to ensure the complete safety of competing athletes.

The standard size of a basketball hoop in diameter is 45 cm. However, this parameter can be increased to a maximum of 45.7 cm. It always has a bright orange color. To make the ring, durable metal is used, the diameter of which is at least 16 mm. It should be noted that the maximum thickness of a basketball hoop is 20 mm. Among other things, it provides special devices that are designed for installing the mesh. These fasteners should not allow the player to injure his fingers, so they are made in such a way that they do not have cracks or sharp edges.

Now a few words about how the basketball hoop is hung. On a stand, which is located no closer than two meters from the front line, a shield is mounted at a right angle. The structure must be installed in such a way that it is impossible to move it. The basket itself is screwed firmly so that the loads acting on it do not in any way affect the position of the shield. Rings with shock absorbers are also not prohibited, however, provided that the rebound characteristics are m

cell, as well as other parameters do not change compared to the standard version. Moreover, under the condition of exposure to a static load at the point of the basket farthest from the shield, which ranges from 82 to 105 kilograms, the fastening system and the shock absorber should not be separated. In this case, the deflection of the ring downwards from the applied forces is allowed by no more than 30 degrees. After their action ends, it should return to its original position instantly.

The height of the basketball hoop is 3.05 meters from the level of the court. The distance from it to the front side of the shield is 15 cm. The nets that are used to equip baskets have twelve fastening loops. Their length should be in the range from 40 to 45 cm. Their upper part is made in such a way as to prevent tangling, throwing onto the basket, as well as the ball getting stuck or returning in the opposite direction.

Not only the size of the basketball hoop, but also the parameters of the backboard play an important role. Its width should be 1.8 m and its height 1.05 meters. Its lower part is located from the platform at a height of 2.9 m. The material for making the shield is now most often tempered glass. Its hardness must correspond to the degree of hardness of a tree having a thickness of 3 cm. The edges of the front side are marked with lines 5 cm wide. The structures on which the shields are hung are upholstered with soft materials.

Finally, it should be noted that the ring's mounting system compensates for almost half of the energy that is applied to it. Regarding possible deviations of the parameters listed above, according to the official rules, the difference between two baskets of the same playing court should not exceed 5 percent.

Basketball playground

The playing area must be a flat, rectangular, hard surface without any obstructions.
For the main official FIBA competitions, as well as for new playing courts under construction, the dimensions, measured from the inside edge of the boundary lines, must be 28 meters long and 15 meters wide. For all other competitions, the relevant FIBA structures, such as the Zonal Commission or National Federations, have the right to approve existing playing courts with a minimum size of 26 meters in length and 14 meters in width.

Ceiling.
The ceiling height or distance to the lowest object above the playing area must be at least 7 meters.

Lighting.
The playing surface must be evenly and sufficiently illuminated. Light sources must be located where they will not interfere with Players and Referees.

Lines.
All lines must be painted in the same color (preferably white), have a width of 5 cm and be clearly visible.

Front and side lines.
The playing court must be limited by two front (on the short sides of the court) and two side (on the long sides of the court) lines. These lines are not part of the site. The playing area must be at least 2 meters away from any obstructions, including the team bench.

Central line.
The center line is drawn parallel to the end lines from the middle of the side lines and should extend 15 cm beyond each side line.

Central circle.
The central circle is marked in the center of the site and has a radius of 1.80 m, measured to the outer edge of the circle. If the center circle is painted a different color, it must be the same color as the restricted areas.

Free throw lines, restricted areas and free throw areas.

The free throw line is drawn parallel to each end line. Its far edge is 5.80 m from the inner edge of the end line, its length should be 3.60 m. Its middle should be on an imaginary line connecting the midpoints of the two end lines.
Restricted areas are designated areas on the court bounded by the end lines, free throw lines and lines that start from the end lines. Their outer edges are 3 m from the middle of the end lines and end at the outer edge of the free throw lines. These lines, excluding the end lines, are part of the restricted area. The restricted areas may be painted a different color, but they must be the same color as the center circle.
Free throw areas are limited areas extended towards the playing court in semicircles with a radius of 1.80 m, the centers of which are located in the middle of the free throw lines. The same semicircles should be drawn with dotted lines inside the limited areas.
The spaces along the free throw areas occupied by Players during free throws are marked as shown in the diagram.

Three-point shooting zone.

The three-point field goal zone for a team is the entire playing court, with the exception of the area near the opponent’s basket, limited by:
Two parallel lines starting from the end line at a distance of 6.25 m from a point on the court, obtained at the intersection of a perpendicular dropped from the center of the opponent’s basket. The distance from this point to the inner edge of the middle of the end line is 1.575 m.
A semicircle with a radius of 6.25 m to the outer edge of its line, centered at the same point as above, until it joins the parallel lines.

Shields.

Shields must be made of an appropriate transparent material (preferably tempered safety glass), which is a monolithic piece.
If they are made from other opaque material(s), they should be painted white.
The dimensions of the boards should be: 1.80 m horizontally and 1.05 m vertically.
All lines on the shield must be drawn as follows:
- white if the shield is transparent.
- black in all other cases.
- 5 cm wide.
The front surface of the shields must be smooth.

Shield markings.
The boards must be rigidly mounted as follows:
- at both ends of the court at right angles to the floor, parallel to the end lines.
- the vertical center line on their front surface, extended down to the floor, shall touch a point on the floor lying 1.20 m from the inner edge of the middle of each end line, on an imaginary line drawn at right angles to that end line.

Shield supports.

The shield supports should be designed as follows:
- the front part of the structure (including upholstery) must be located at a distance of at least 2.00 m from the outer edge of the end line, and be painted in a bright color that contrasts with the color of the walls, so as to be clearly visible to the Players.
- the shield support must be so attached to the floor that it cannot be moved.
- any structure to which the shield is attached must be upholstered with soft material behind the shield along the bottom surface of the structure at a distance of 1.20 m from the front surface of the shield.
- the minimum thickness of the upholstery must be 5 cm. It must have the same density as the upholstery of the panels.
— all shield support structures must be completely upholstered with soft material to a height of at least 2.15 m along the surface from the site side. The minimum thickness of the upholstery should be 10 cm.

Baskets.

Baskets consist of rings and nets.

Rings.
The material is durable steel, internal diameter 45 cm and painted orange.
The metal rod of the ring must have a minimum diameter of 16 mm and a maximum of 20 mm. The bottom of the ring should have provisions for securing the nets, such as to prevent finger injuries.
The mesh should be attached to the ring at twelve equally spaced points along the entire perimeter of the ring. Devices for attaching nets must not have sharp edges or crevices into which the Player’s fingers could get caught.
The ring is attached to the structure supporting the basket in such a way that no force applied to the ring is transmitted directly to the backboard. Therefore, there should be no direct contact between the ring and the device securing the ring to the shield and the shield. However, the gap should be small enough that fingers cannot get into it.
The top edge of each ring should be located horizontally at a height of 3.05 m above the surface of the site at an equal distance from the vertical edges of the shield.
The closest point of the inside of the ring should be located at a distance of 15 cm from the front surface of the shield.
You can use rings with shock absorbers.

Grids.
Made of white cord and designed to momentarily hold the ball as it passes through the basket. The length of the mesh must be at least 40 cm and no more than 45 cm.
Each net must have 12 loops for attaching to the ring.
The upper sections of the mesh must be sufficiently rigid to prevent:
The mesh wrapping around the ring and possibly getting tangled.
Getting the ball stuck in the net or being thrown back out of the basket by the net.

Test and transfer standards for basketball players in youth sports schools

A basketball backboard and a hoop are essential components of a basketball court. The world has accepted standards regarding these elements: they were established by the International Basketball Federation.

A basketball backboard is a rectangular or square-shaped panel on which a hoop is fixed. The panel is equipped with a mount for mounting on a pole or hanging on a wall: rigid installation is required so that the product does not wobble or move. The size of the product is 1.8x1.05 meters, while the distance from its edge to the floor should be 2.9 meters. The NBA has set the following standards: the size of the backboard is 72x42 inches. There should be two shields, they are installed at opposite ends of the field, the material is durable and shock-resistant (for example, tempered glass, acrylic, wood). The surface is marked with lines; it must be smooth. Models of non-stationary basketball backboards with mesh use the same mounting elements as brackets for hanging punching bags. This allows you to withstand the heavy weight of the product and securely fasten it.

What should a basketball hoop look like?

A ring or basket is a metal (steel) circle covered with a mesh without a bottom. This element should be installed at a distance of 3.05 meters from the floor and 0.15 meters from the bottom edge of the shield.

How to make a basketball backboard and hoop in the yard, what sizes and what can it be made of?

The internal diameter can vary from 45 to 45.7 centimeters. The basketball hoop is painted in a bright color, most often orange. The load on the basket should not be transferred to the shield, so special attention must be paid to the installation of the product.

How to make a basketball hoop

A mandatory feature of such a famous game as basketball is a basketball basket with a net. You can absolutely build this device in your yard by making a shield and homemade one from scrap materials. ring made of thick wire. But if you decide to practice your playing skills more skillfully, you should know what requirements apply to the design of a basketball hoop. Please keep these instructions in mind when making sports equipment.

You will need

  • - metal rod with a diameter of 16-20 mm
  • - metal plate
  • - white cord

Instructions

1. The expertly crafted basket consists of a basketball hoop and a net. The design of the ring is clearly defined by the relevant rules of the game. The material for the ring is strong iron. The inner diameter of the ring is 45 cm. The ring should be orange in color. The diameter of the rod from which you will make ring, must be at least 16 mm and no more than 20 mm.

2. The lower part of the basketball hoop has provisions for attaching a net. The design of such devices should prevent finger injuries.

3. The basketball net is attached to the hoop at twelve points along each perimeter of the hoop. These points must be located at an equal distance from each other. Devices for attaching the net must not have sharp edges or crevices where the player’s fingers could get caught.

4. The fastening of the ring to the structure supporting the basket is done in such a way that any force applied to the ring cannot be spontaneously transferred to the shield. Direct contact between ring m and there should not be a fastening device. At the same time, the gap should be quite small so that the player’s fingers cannot get into it.

5. The upper edge of the ring is located horizontally at a height of 3.05 m above the surface of the playing court. The ring should be identically distanced from the vertical edges of the shield. The closest point of the inner surface of the ring is located 15 cm from the front surface of the shield.

6. It is not prohibited to use shock-absorbing basketball ring. It is equipped with a corresponding spring mechanism that allows the ring to deflect 30 degrees and return to its original position.

7. A few words about the net that you have to make complete with the basketball ring m. It can be made from white cord. It should be of such a size that it can momentarily hold up a basketball passing through the basket from above. The length of the basketball net is 40-45 cm. The net must have twelve loops for attaching to the hoop.

The upper segments of the net are made rigid in order to prevent the net from getting entangled or overflowing, as well as from getting the ball stuck. The net should not allow the ball to be thrown back out of the basket for no reason.

DIY basketball stands

Basketball stands can be made by hand, or you can buy them easier and faster from us.

Currently, there are a large number of different designs of basketball stands. Their choice is determined by the conditions and installation location. For halls less than 30 m long, wall pendants are usually used; outdoors and in halls longer than 30 m, floor and hanging racks are used. For school halls, the length of which usually does not exceed 24 m, only wall racks may be of interest, and for open areas - floor racks.

Basketball stands for open courts (Fig. 173, 174, 175) are a tubular welded truss dug into the ground or freely resting on the ground. In the latter case, stability is created due to cargo counterweights placed on the base of the truss. Such stands (they are called portable) are convenient because they can be moved, freeing up space for other sporting events, for filling skating rinks, etc.

Basketball posts consist of a truss, a wooden (or plexiglass) backboard and a ring with a net.

To make a truss, which will then be strengthened in the ground, you will need 45 m of water and gas pipes with a diameter of I1/* inches, 21 m of pipes with a diameter of 3-4 inches and sheet steel (for washers) 8 mm thick - 0.5 m2.

The depth of the farm into the ground depends on the freezing of the soil in the area, but should not be less than 700 mm. The truss is attached to concrete foundations (section size 0.5 X 0.5 m) with a depth of at least 1 m. When concreting, the vertical position of the shield should be ensured. To do this, the support flanges are installed inside the dug holes on brick pillars 300 mm high, and the truss is supported by a support. By adjusting the height of the support, a position is achieved in which the mounting flanges of the shield do not reach the vertical position by 2-3°’. In this case, the supporting flanges of the truss must rest on the brick columns with their entire surface. If this does not happen, it is necessary to place steel pads under the flanges.

Having adjusted the position of the truss, the hole is filled with cement mortar flush with the ground. The farm remains standing with supports for at least 3-5 days. After this period, the supports are removed and the shield is hung. In this case, the truss, under the weight of the shield and its own, will tilt forward somewhat and the shield flanges will take a strictly vertical position. Using the oval holes in the flanges, the backboard is installed straight, without distortion, and the lower edge of the backboard should be 2.75 m from the surface of the playing area.

The board is made of dry pine boards 30 mm thick, joined into a tenon, and framed with a frame 30 mm thick and 75 mm wide and bars 45 and 120 mm, respectively. To increase rigidity, it is allowed to place a vertical bar in the middle part of the shield of the same dimensions as the outer bars. The parts are connected using K-17 glue.

Shield dimensions: length - 1800 mm, height - 1200 mm.

In addition to standard ones, you can also use simplified shields. They are assembled from dry boards 20-30 mm thick, butted end-to-end and connected by four vertical bars 160 mm wide and 60 mm thick. The bars are attached to the boards with screws with a diameter of 5-6 mm and a length of 60-75 mm.

The front surface of the basketball backboard must be carefully processed, well sanded and painted with white oil paint. The back of the board is soaked in hot drying oil. Along the entire perimeter, the shield is bordered by a black stripe 50 mm wide, and in the middle part, at a height of 250 mm from the bottom edge, a rectangle measuring 600 X 450 mm is applied. Line thickness

rectangle - 50 mm.

To connect the shield to the truss, standard bolts with a diameter of 10-12 mm and a length of 75-90 mm are used (depending on the thickness of the shield). The bolt heads are flush and after installation are painted over with paint to match the color of the shield.

Rings for hanging the mesh can be made of a normal or simplified design.

The ring of a simplified design is a circle with an internal diameter of 450 mm, rolled from a rod with a diameter of 20 mm. The circle is connected by a metal rod with a diameter of 30-35 mm to a round flange, which is attached to the shield with three bolts with a diameter of 10 mm. The circle for attaching the mesh has through holes (11 or 22) with a diameter of 5 mm or welded brackets of various configurations.

A simplified ring can be successfully used in schools for primary education. However, it should be remembered that it is not rigid enough and vibrates when hit by the ball.

DIY basketball backboard. Made of Metal Project

The rebound of the ball from such a ring is unstable.

A ring of normal design does not have this drawback, but its manufacture is more difficult due to the introduction of additional struts, a plate bracket, and a large number of welding operations.

A new game for the students: he invited his students to compete in accuracy by throwing a ball, and to complicate the task and interest the young people, he attached fruit baskets to the balconies of the gym. It was necessary to get into the baskets that hung directly above the students.

In team competitions, not only the players, but also the fans who were on the balconies threw balls into baskets. To ensure that balls flying into the opponent's basket did not fly further than the target, Disames Naismith installed shields behind the baskets.

The birthplace of basketball is Massachusetts, known for its unstable weather. When inventing the game, Naismith focused specifically on the weather: he needed dynamic competitions that could be held indoors.

The students liked the game so much that within a year it became the center of attention at sports competitions. However, the wicker fruit baskets clearly could not cope with the pressure of the players and often treacherously fell apart after the next ball. Already in 1893, they were replaced by rings, which were made from metal hoops with a large mesh.

Features of the rings

Each playing area requires two rings (baskets). They must be identical in size. The thickness of their hoop should not exceed two centimeters. The diameter of the basketball hoop is suitable for a fairly large ball to freely pass through for a basketball game. The traditional diameter of the basket is 45 centimeters. In some cases, it is permissible to increase the size to 45.7 centimeters, this is the largest permissible ring diameter.

Women's basketball is a team sport, its main goal is to throw the ball into the opposing team's basket. Victory goes to those who earned the most points during the competition. Only tall and fast girls are selected for basketball. It is believed that this sport is very useful, so it is included in the sports training program for schools.

Women's basketball - rules of the game

Experts believe that women's basketball:

  • sharpens coordination;
  • trains muscles and breathing;
  • improves blood circulation;
  • strengthens the nerves.

These characteristics made the game very famous; the first rules were invented by the American James Naismith in 1891. The teacher wanted to make gymnastics lessons more interesting; at first, the teams simply threw balls into fruit baskets. Only a year later, James formulated the basic rules; at first there were 13 of them. And the rules of women's basketball at the international level were adopted only in 1932, at the first congress of the International Basketball Federation. The most extreme adjustments were made in 2004. The rules are simple:

  1. Two groups compete, with five participants from each.
  2. The goal of the game is to throw the ball into someone else's basket and prevent it from being thrown into yours.
  3. The game is played with hands only; kicking or stopping the ball is considered a violation.
  4. If the number of points is the same, the judge adds time and does so until the winner is determined.
  5. A close-range shot is awarded 2 points, a long-range shot is awarded 3 points, and a free throw is awarded 1 point.

Women's Basketball - Hoop Height

Women's volleyball has become so popular due to the fact that it is the least traumatic. It also improves health with a variety of activities:

  • walking and running;
  • stops, turns, throws;
  • jumping, catching and dribbling the ball.

The height of the basketball hoop from the floor is 10 feet or 3.05 meters. Men's basketball has the same standards. According to sports standards, the basket is fixed at a distance of 0.15 meters from the low edge of the basketball backboard, and the basket itself is covered with a net that has no bottom on the hoop. The bottom edge of the basket is fixed at a distance of 3 meters 5 centimeters from the floor; this rule is common for both men's and women's teams. There are a few more important nuances:

  1. The structure is placed so that it is impossible to move it, and the loads do not affect the position of the shield.
  2. The correct distance from the floor to the top is measured by a specialist, because not only accuracy plays a role, but also the difference in slopes in one direction and the other.

How many quarters are there in women's basketball?

In basketball, “clean” time is counted; the game lasts from 2 to 4 periods or quarters, 12 minutes each. Breaks are given for two minutes. In many sports competitions, time is divided into halves; women's basketball has the same rules. The stopwatch starts only when the ball is in play, but if it flies out of the field, the timer is stopped. The total playing time is from 40 to 48 minutes, everything is decided by the rules.

How long is a quarter in women's basketball?

How long is a quarter in basketball? For each, 10 minutes of non-playing time are allotted, taking into account breaks of 120 seconds between them. Only at the height of the game, between the second and third periods, 15 minutes are allocated for rest. But there are some deviations:

  1. In Europe, a quarter is 10 minutes long.
  2. In America they play for 12 minutes.
  3. In the NBA, the count is 12 minutes, but with timeouts and delays it runs up to about half an hour.

Rating of women's basketball teams

Women's basketball is a sport where the matches are no less exciting than those of men; the referee takes into account points and fines according to generally accepted world rules. To gain the right to play in the most prestigious tournament, the Russian team this year played 6 matches with basketball players from Greece, Bulgaria and Switzerland. The women's basketball team managed to win the World Cup and European Cup, topping the world rankings and displacing the previous champions from Hungary.

Women's Basketball - Movies

The largest number of basketball supporters live in America, where almost everyone in the country is familiar with this game. Thanks to such popularity, directors often made films about women's basketball, and they are successful even at the global box office. The most famous films:

  1. "Away match". The story of a coach who formed a team of black players and led them to championships.
  2. "Season of Victory". A formerly famous coach gets a chance to return to his favorite sport, but on one condition: the women’s team must be prepared in such a way that the girls reach the highest level.
  3. "Mighty Max". The story of women's team coach Katie Nash, who manages to turn weak outsiders into tournament winners in a short time.
