Setting up a chainsaw carburetor with your own hands

For an independent carburetor option, you need to familiarize yourself with its device and understand the procedure for the work that is carried out to adjust the parts responsible for the correct functioning constituent parts device and parts close to it.

It is necessary to carefully handle the items for the system option, and also determine the compliance of the set characteristics with very acceptable values.

About the carburetor device

The carburetor serves to mix the combustible mixture with air, subject to predetermined proportions. If clear doses are not observed, the correct operation of the motor is at risk. When a huge amount of air enters during mixing, and there is not enough fuel, then such a mixture is considered "poor".

Oversaturation should not be allowed, because with a large amount of fuel compared to air, malfunctions or engine wear are also likely. Carburetor adjustment is needed not only before the initial implementation, but also when any differences in its operation are detected. Before working with a chainsaw, do not forget to break it in.

Components of a carburetor

The design of the carburetor contains a standard set of parts, but may vary little depending on the manufacturer. Components:

  1. The basis. This is a special tube that visually resembles an aerodynamic design. Air passes through it. A damper is located in the transverse direction in the middle of the pipe. The more it is extended into the passage, the less air enters the engine.
  2. Diffuser. This is the narrowed part of the tube. With its help, the air supply speed is increased precisely in the segment where the fuel comes from.
  3. Channels for fuel supply. The fuel mixture is contained in the float chamber, then passes into the jet, from which it flows into the atomizer.
  4. float chamber. It is a separate structural element, reminiscent of the shape of the tank. How to repair a carburetor (walbro) on a partner chainsaw carburetor adjustment. Intended for constant maintenance the optimum level of the fuel liquid before entering the channel from which air enters.

What you need to have to set up

Every carburetor owner should have necessary tools to adjust this system. There are three adjustment screws that are located on the body of the device. They have their own markings:

  • L - screw for correcting low speed.
  • H - screw for adjusting high speed.
  • T - regulates idling, in most cases it is used for experiments.

Chainsaw air filter

Before adjusting the carburetor, you need to prepare the device:

  1. The engine warms up, that is, it starts up about 10 minutes before repair, and turns off at the start of work (see how to start a chainsaw).
  2. Check and clean the air filter.
  3. The chain is stopped by turning screw T as far as it will go (see chain oil).

To carry out a safe repair, you need to prepare a flat surface where you can carefully position the device, and turn the chain in the opposite direction. You need a tachometer. It determines the presence of a violation in the operation of the carburetor. When turning the screws, the sound should be perfect and absolutely even. If squealing notes are noticed, then the mixture is oversaturated.

Setting instructions

Carburetor adjustment is divided into two main stages. The first is called basic. It is done with the engine running. The second is performed when the engine is warm.

To complete the carburetor tuning procedure successfully, You need to read the instruction manual beforehand. specific model to identify additional features of device settings.

First stage

The adjustment screws for the highest and lowest speeds should be turned clockwise until the highest resistance is met. The article talks about how to adjust the partner chainsaw carburetor despite the fact. When the screws reach the stop, you need to transfer them to reverse side and leave at the passage of 1.5 turns.

The engine turns on at medium speed and it warms up for about 10 minutes. The screw responsible for adjusting the idle speed must move clockwise. It is released only when the engine enters the stable operation mode. It is necessary to check that the chain does not move during this process.

In idle mode, the engine may stall (the reason is here). In this case, you must immediately bring the adjusting screw clockwise to the stop. Sometimes the chain starts to move. In this case, turn the adjusting screw in the opposite direction.

Checking the operation of acceleration

You need to do a little research. Device acceleration is initiated. It is necessary to evaluate the serviceability of the engine during the maximum speed. we will carry out the replacement on a Chinese chainsaw, they are also called gypsy, since the gypsies sold them in the hundreds. How to adjust correctly You can only adjust the ignition on a chainsaw. When the engine is running correctly, when you press the accelerator, the speed quickly increases to 15,000 rpm.

If this does not happen or the increase in speed is too slow, the screw marked L must be used. It turns counterclockwise. How to adjust the carburetor on a Chinese chainsaw. Moderate movements must be observed, since the turn cannot be more than 1/8 of a full circle.

Max RPM

To limit this figure, you need to use a screw marked H. To increase the number of revolutions, turn it clockwise, and to reduce them in the opposite direction. The maximum frequency should not exceed 15000 rpm.

If this indicator is made larger, the engine of the device will wear out, which will lead to problems in the ignition system. When rotating this screw, the ignition processes of the device must be taken into account. If the slightest failures appear, then the maximum speed value must be reduced.

Final check at idle

Before this procedure, it is necessary to perform a full adjustment of the carburetor components when operating at maximum speed. Next, you should check the operation of the device in idle cold mode. When achieved correct parameters when adjusting you can see the exact correspondence of the carburetor design to the following criteria:

    1. When the idle cold mode is connected, the chain does not move.

In this case, the device may fail due to the loss of the correct node settings. how to properly adjust the carburetor on a husqvarna chainsaw. In this case, you will have to contact a specialist.

Dismantling the carburetor if necessary to check or repair components

The device of different models of carburetors is almost the same, so when working with them, you can use the standard scheme. All elements must be removed carefully, and then post in the order below so that you can successfully arrange items in place at the end of the repair work.

Adjustment order:

  1. Activities start in idle mode. With the help of adjusting screws, you need to achieve a systematic increase in engine speed, so you should first let it work at low speeds. In this case, the smoke will disappear, but the engine speed will increase. It is necessary to adjust the settings until it reaches a level where, when you press the throttle, the engine smoothly picks up speed, no sharp jerks or interruptions are heard.

  • Checking the engine of the device. The chainsaw is transferred to the minimum speed, and then the lever is pressed rapidly. At the maximum pressing it is maintained for 3 seconds. If there is a malfunction in the engine, you need to gradually loosen the screw until the optimum position is reached.
  • The chainsaw should work for several hours in real conditions. It is necessary to engage in sawing wood, and then inspect all the elements involved in this event. If there are deviations, they must be corrected using adjusting devices. When all defects are eliminated and the optimal settings for supplying correctly concentrated fuel are set, the process of setting up the device can be considered completed.
  • Owning a chainsaw makes life easier even for an amateur, and in some professions this tool is actually indispensable. However, as with any complex device chainsaw requires periodic maintenance. Due to untimely or not of the highest quality maintenance, as well as as a result of exposure to both planned and excessive loads, various kinds of malfunctions can appear. For professionals, interruptions or unstable operation of the saw reduces the efficiency of the work or can cause a ruined work day. One of the fairly common malfunctions is the incorrect setting of the chainsaw carburetor, which goes astray due to unsuccessful adjustment attempts or displacement of the adjusting screws for other reasons.

    Symptoms of malfunctions and breakdowns that require carburetor adjustment.

    The following signs and malfunctions indicate the need to adjust the carburetor:

    • the engine starts with an effort and almost instantly stalls;
    • gasoline consumption is excessively high, the exhaust is too thick, the combustible mixture in the cylinder does not completely burn out;
    • the factory settings of the chainsaw carburetor are knocked down (due to vibrations or unsuccessful attempts at regulation);
    • malfunctions of the air cleaning system, which led to the ingress of debris into the fuel mixture distribution mechanism;
    • significant wear of the piston group - the carburetor setting in this case acts as a temporary measure.

    It is clear that if dirt gets into the fuel system, the problem cannot be solved with one setting - it needs to be flushed. In case of wear, the piston is required overhaul. However, in all these cases, the carburetor is also tuned.

    Purpose, design and principle of operation of the carburetor.

    The carburetor is needed to prepare the air-fuel mixture to power the engine. If the proportions in this mixture are incorrect, the operation of the motor is disrupted. If the proportion is not observed in the direction of increasing the amount of fuel, the mixture is called supersaturated, if, on the contrary, there is not enough fuel, it is called poor. On the operation of the engine, both of them affect not the best way.

    In different models of chainsaws, carburetors differ in design, but they are similar in principle of operation. The air flow moves at high speed through the air channel. The damper blocking the channel allows you to change the speed of the air jet. Fuel through the atomizer is fed into the channel, where it mixes with the incoming air, forming an air-fuel mixture. The resulting mixture enters the engine.

    The pressure in the float chamber, where the fuel is located before mixing, is practically equal to atmospheric pressure. But a vacuum is created in the air channel, due to which the fuel is drawn into the air stream. The more the damper opens, the faster the air moves, and the amount of fuel also increases - the engine speed increases. So it is possible to imagine the principle of operation of the carburetor in a simplified way.

    For efficient, smooth operation of the tool, obtaining maximum performance and at the same time economical fuel consumption, chainsaw carburetor adjustment is required. Before adjustment, it is necessary to check the fuel and air filters - they must be clean. On most chainsaws, the adjustment is carried out with three screws: idle, high speed, low speed. ABOUT correct setting carburetor testify to such signs:

    1. The chain does not move at idle.
    2. The engine accelerates smoothly and quickly.
    3. The sound of the running motor is smooth, similar to the sound of a four-stroke engine.

    The adjustment of the carburetor must be treated with all possible care, because errors in the settings can lead to very serious consequences, up to the occurrence of an engine malfunction. If you are not 100% confident in your abilities, you need to contact service center.

    Husqvarna saw carburetor adjustment.

    For the break-in mode, so that the parts receive sufficient lubrication, the Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor is set so that the maximum speed is 600–700 rpm. below working. If it is not possible to set the maximum operating frequency using the tachometer, you should not change the presettings with screw H. It is forbidden to exceed the value of the maximum number of revolutions by the manufacturer. If, after completing the adjustment, the saw chain moves while the engine is idling, turn the screw T counterclockwise to force it to stop completely.

    For fine adjustment, the saw must be warmed up for at least 10 minutes, installed on a flat surface. The tire must be directed away from the person doing the adjustment. At an early stage, one should find highest value idle frequency. To do this, the screw L is smoothly turned first from left to right, then vice versa. When the maximum speed is found empirically, it is necessary to unscrew the screw L counterclockwise by a value from 1/8 to a quarter of a full turn.

    The idle speed is adjusted with the jet marked with the letter T. It must be turned from left to right until the chain starts moving. Then gently reverse until the chain stops turning. Screw H is considered to be set correctly if the noise of the saw at full throttle without load remains small. If the exhaust is too smoky and the saw makes a lot of noise, the mixture is too rich. It is necessary to turn the jet H clockwise until the correct sound is set. How to properly adjust the carburetor, you can see in the video below.

    Chainsaws Partner and Calm, their adjustments.

    In chainsaws Stihl and Partner, adjusting screws H and L set the proportion of air and gasoline in the mixture. When the screws are loosened, the mixture is enriched, the speed increases. Screwing leads to a lean mixture and, accordingly, a decrease in engine speed.

    Setting the carburetor of the chainsaw Partner to idle is carried out with a screw T (Stihl marks this adjustment with the letters LA). Basic tool setting is done at the factory during final testing. In most cases, the carburetor is adjusted to supply a slightly richer air-fuel mixture than the optimal design. The factory settings must be saved during the first few hours of operation, during the break-in period. After that, finer adjustments can be made, although this is not necessary, the saw will work normally on the basic settings.

    Fine adjustment of the carburetor requires a tachometer, in addition, technical documentation will be needed in order to carry out work in strict accordance with the requirements of the manufacturer. The best solution will entrust the fine tuning of fuel equipment to specialists.

    If, nevertheless, it is decided to adjust it yourself, you should start with the screw L, after which they go to the jet H, after which they set the idle speed by turning the screw T (or LA - if it is a Stihl saw).

    By smoothly turning the screw L in both directions, the position is sought at which the idling speed will be maximum. After this point is found, it is required to unscrew the screw L by 1/4 turn. If the chain continues to move while the engine is idling, screw T (LA) is slowly unscrewed until the chain stops.

    After adjusting the maximum speed with the screw H, the value of their frequency is checked by a tachometer. If the maximum speed does not correspond to the values \u200b\u200bspecified in the documentation, the adjustments are repeated. If the mixture is too rich at maximum speed, too much smoke comes out of the muffler, when the mixture is lean, the saw makes a squealing sound and the engine heats up excessively. The adjustment ends with the setting of idling - the position is considered correct if the motor runs smoothly at a minimum speed and the chain is standing. The idle setting can be viewed in the video below.

    Setting up the carburetor of a Chinese chainsaw

    Almost any Chinese chainsaw has the same adjustments as its branded counterparts. The same screws L, H and T are present. Sometimes there are saws in which only idle speed is subject to regulation. However, according to the reviews of the owners and service workers, not every chainsaw can adjust the carburetor without problems. Even for experienced repairers, some models can take a decent amount of time before getting an acceptable result.

    The standard for “Chinese” carburetors is the position of the L screw, at which it is loosened by one and a half turns from the fully clamped position. For screw H, one turn from the same state. In many videos, the L screw is called adjusting the quality of the mixture, and the H screw is its quantity. Idle speed is adjusted in the same way as described above, on a warm engine.

    (21 ratings, average: 4,00 out of 5)

    A manual chainsaw is an excellent assistant in a personal household, which is indispensable for harvesting firewood, pruning trees, as well as for building wooden log cabins for houses, baths and outbuildings. The design of the saws allows you to cut and saw the trunks of medium-sized trees.

    Currently on the market big choice chainsaws, among which chainsaws Partner of the Swedish concern Husqvarna and Huter chainsaws of the German company of the same name, for their compactness, lightness, performance and reasonable prices.

    The ease of maintenance of the partner saw and the huter allows even the first person to handle them, but, nevertheless, a chainsaw is a complex device and requires a caring attitude. In the course of work, various kinds of malfunctions sometimes occur that affect efficient work and the user must be able to deal with them.

    How to adjust the carburetor on a chainsaw

    The most common problem encountered in the operation of chainsaws is the incorrect operation of the carburetor, leading to excessive fuel consumption and loss of power, so any user should know how to adjust the carburetor on a chainsaw.

    Chainsaw carburetors are designed in the same way as car carburetors, and therefore anyone who is familiar with the principle of operation of an internal combustion engine is able to cope with the adjustment of the carburetor and can adjust it with his own hands.

    By the manufacturer, new saws are supplied with an adjusted carburetor, but during operation, the standard setting is violated and the saw requires re-adjustment. The documentation that came with the saw describes how to adjust the carburetor.

    Needed when the following symptoms appear:

    • at idle, the saw runs at high speeds;
    • smokes heavily during operation;
    • it starts poorly both in a cold state and in a warm one;
    • works at low speeds and with reduced traction.

    The device and principle of operation of the carburetor

    The device and principle of operation of the chainsaw carburetor are the same as those of the carburetors of internal combustion engines and perform the same function: preparing and supplying an air-fuel mixture to the combustion chamber of the engine.

    The carburetor consists of the following parts:

    Atmospheric air, having passed through the air filter, enters the air channel of the carburetor, where the diffuser is located, which reduces the diameter of the channel, as a result of which a reduced pressure is created behind the diffuser.

    Behind the diffuser throttle valve installed, which regulates the air supply to the carburetor. Partially blocking or opening the air channel, the damper controls the air flow, thereby regulating the engine speed.

    Under the action of reduced air pressure created behind the diffuser, gasoline is sucked from the float chamber through the fuel jet and sprayer into the mixing chamber.

    In the chamber, the fuel is mixed with air, forming a fuel mixture, and then fed into the combustion chamber. The throttle valve is mechanically connected to the fuel jet, which regulates the amount of fuel supplied to the atomizer. Therefore, it simultaneously regulates the supply of air and fuel to the combustion chamber.

    The float regulates the level of fuel in the float chamber, keeping it at the same level. It is connected to a needle valve that shuts off the flow of fuel into the float chamber.

    When the fuel level drops, the float goes down and moves the needle valve, causing it to tear off the fuel supply port. When fuel fills the chamber to the normal level, the float moves the needle to the closed position.

    Engine speed depends on how much mixture of fuel and air enters the combustion chamber. The more we open the damper, the more turns.

    How to set up a carburetor on a chainsaw?

    Carburetor adjustment consists of adjusting the jet and choke so as to obtain optimal ratio the amount of air and fuel in fuel mixture.

    If there is a lot of air in the fuel mixture and a lack of fuel, the mixture is lean, so the engine power is reduced.

    If too much fuel and too little air- the mixture is supersaturated, incomplete combustion of the fuel occurs, which leads to smoke, carbon deposits on the piston and in the exhaust pipe and increased fuel consumption.

    How to properly adjust a carburetor?

    Consider, as an example, the adjustment of the carburetor of the Partner chainsaw.

    To adjust, you need to have a slotted screwdriver and a device - a tachometer that allows you to measure the engine speed.

    The setting is carried out in the following sequence:

    1. setting the chainsaw carburetor at low speeds;
    2. adjustment at maximum speed;
    3. fine tuning for idling;
    4. checking the operation of the saw in all modes.

    Start after the engine is running and warmed up.

    Chainsaw adjustment performed using three adjusting screws on its body:

    • screw L - fuel supply adjustment at medium and low speeds
    • screw H - at high speeds;
    • screw T - in idle mode.

    If the carburetor is completely misaligned and the engine does not want to start, set the adjustment screws L and H to the standard setting: first tighten them completely, then unscrew them by half a turn.

    Start the engine and let it warm up, then proceed to adjust the low speed with screws L and T.

    To do this, screw L should be unscrewed until the maximum engine speed is reached, and then screwed in ¼ turn, and set the idle speed with screw T.

    After completing the adjustment, it is important to check the operation of the engine in all modes. To do this, you need to muffle it and let it cool.

    Then run the saw in cold start mode and observe the engine at idle. If the gas is smoothly added and decreased, and the chain does not move, the adjustment is correct. Next, you should check during sawing. If power loss is observed, re-adjust.

    Do-it-yourself carburetor repair

    The carburetor is easy to disassemble, so you can repair the chainsaw carburetor yourself. For example, if necessary, it is quite possible to do the following operations with your own hands:

    • replace the gasket under the main chamber cover;
    • wash or replace the fuel filter;
    • replace needle valve and fuel pump diaphragm.

    Before proceeding with the disassembly of the carburetor, it is necessary to clean the dirt from the surface of the body, as it can get inside the carburetor and clog the holes of the needle valves and the jet.

    Next, you should undock the fasteners of the air and throttle control rods, dismantle the air filter and remove the cover of the main chamber by unscrewing the fastening screws. After that, you can begin to replace the mentioned parts.

    Very often, the cause of the saw not starting can be defects in the ignition system, in particular, candles due to the following reasons:

    • soot on a candle - indicates poor-quality oil or improper adjustment of the carburetor;
    • flooding the spark plug with fuel - incorrect carburetor adjustment.

    To check the condition of the candle, unscrew it with a special key from the cylinder head.

    Nagar on a candle it is removed with a needle or an awl, and if necessary, with a sandpaper, after that we put it in place and try to start the engine.

    We wipe the flooded candle with a rag, dry it, put it in place and try to start the saw.

    In some cases, the engine smokes and stalls at high speeds. The reason may be clogging of the muffler with exhaust products, so you need to remove the muffler, rinse the carbon deposits with gasoline, wipe it, dry it and put it back in place. While the muffler is in place, the exhaust port should be covered with a rag to keep dirt out.

    Conclusion

    Saw carburetor setting and its minor repairs can be done without experience, but to do it correctly, you need to follow the algorithm prescribed in the attached documentation. However, you should not overestimate your strength, because sometimes it is cheaper to pay a specialist for quality service than to eliminate the consequences of your unprofessional repair.

    A carburetor such as we will consider is installed on many saws of similar brands such as - Poulan, Mc Culloch, Max Cut, CHAMPION

    We unscrew all three screws (as shown on the signs) and remove the top cover of this saw from the body.

    We remove the air filter from our housing (shown in the figure) - a filtering foam rubber air element (green foam rubber in the figure).

    We unscrew two nuts at once, and remove the air filter housing itself.

    In order to remove the housing of this air filter, it is simply not enough to simply remove it from two bolts. He won't take off. He will interfere with the protrusion, which is indicated on the arrow.
    It is necessary to apply a very small upward force to the filter housing, until the protrusion is slightly higher than the upper very edge of the chainsaw crankcase, and remove.

    We work on the right side of the carburetor. We remove the fuel hose (as in the upper arrow) and then the air damper actuator rod.

    We finally remove the carburetor and remove the tip of this cable from the throttle actuator lever.

    On the left side of us, we also pull the gasoline hose together with the carburetor fitting.

    The carburetor is now removed and ready for further disassembly.

    In the example we are considering - a chainsaw, confusing, that is, there is no gasoline in the gas tank. Therefore, when we removed the gas hose on the right side of this carburetor, the fuel did not come out of the hose at all. Your tank may also be full, and therefore, after working with a saw, not much time may pass.
    The fuel in the tank during operation is under slight pressure, therefore, after removing the hose from it, fuel will begin to flow out.

    Prepare in advance a clothespin or clamp or an ordinary nut for 13.

    We completely unscrew the idle speed screw and the screw securing the carburetor cover from above.

    Then remove the top cover. The carburetor area will open, which is called - fuel pump where the blue transparent gasket is the fuel membrane.

    On the left side of the carburetor, remove two screws (according to the instructions, the screws are marked L and H), before that, having removed the spring clip from them. When assembling the carburetor, these screws cannot be confused, there is an annular groove on the H screw, if it is not there, mark it with any screw.

    We remove four screws from below and remove the very bottom cover of the carburetor.

    Remove this needle valve assembly. For this purpose, remove the screw indicated by the arrow in the figure. Under the two-arm lever, do not lose, there is a small spring.

    Champion chainsaw carburetor: and its adjustment

    We begin the adjustment with the idle setting, for this we turn the screw T (LA) counterclockwise, achieving a complete stop of the circuit at a steady engine speed.

    Chainsaw carburetor detail

    For further fine adjustment, you will need a tachometer and it is better to entrust it to specialists, especially since in most cases it may not be needed.
    Patriot 4518 chainsaw carburetor adjustment
    We start the tool setting with the L screw, then use the H screw and finally the T screw (LA).

    We are looking for the highest idle speed, for this we slowly turn the screw L to different directions. After finding the position of the highest engine speed, it is necessary to turn the screw L 1/4 turn counterclockwise. If the chain is idling at the same time, screw T should be turned counterclockwise until it stops.

    Screw H regulates the power and speed. Adjusting the carburetor to a lean mixture leads to excessive speed, overheating of the engine and failure of the piston chainsaw.

    We warm up the chainsaw engine at idle for at least 10 seconds and turn the screw H 1/4 turn counterclockwise. We let the engine run for about 10 seconds, then check the maximum engine speed with a tachometer. If the maximum revolutions do not correspond to the passport ones, the operation should be repeated. When the mixture is too rich, the muffler starts to smoke, when the mixture is too lean, the saw squeals and overheats.

    We finish the adjustment by setting the idle speed, as already described above. The idle speed is set correctly if the engine runs smoothly at minimum speed and the chain does not rotate.
    The carburetor can be considered adjusted if the engine accelerates quickly and sounds like a four-stroke at full throttle.

    It is important!

    As you know, the Champion chainsaw enjoys well-deserved popularity in our country both among construction and logging organizations, and among many owners. personal plots And country cottages. Such an increased demand for a chainsaw is associated, first of all, with a rather long service life and its absolute reliability in operation.

    And in order for the Champion chainsaw to work properly, timely adjustment of the carburetor is needed, which not only ensures the efficient operation of the entire tool, but also significantly extends its service life.
    And such an adjustment can only be carried out with a properly tensioned chain and a cleaned air filter. The carburetor of the Champion chainsaw is adjusted using three screws and is carried out in two stages: with the engine turned off and while it is running. First, the screws for maximum and minimum revolutions are turned clockwise until they stop while the engine is stopped. And then, without stopping, turn the adjusting screws in the opposite direction by 1.5 turns.
    The second stage involves adjusting the idle speed while the engine is running. But, before proceeding to the second stage, you must initially warm up the chainsaw engine for five minutes. And then when the engine stops at idle, slowly turn the adjusting screw clockwise. But, as soon as the chain starts to move, it is necessary to immediately start turning the screw, in the opposite direction, counterclockwise.
    For an inexperienced person, performing all these manipulations to correctly adjust the carburetor can cause certain difficulties. And therefore, it is better, after all, to turn to professionals, with the help of which the carburetor will be quickly adjusted and the Champion chainsaw will be able to work without interruption. Experienced specialists will not only help you adjust the carburetor, but also tell you how to properly use the Champion chainsaw in your work.

    Determination of cutting chain wear

    Before each start of work, special attention should be paid to the appropriate sharpening rules and the tension of the cutting chain. The chain tension is correct when the chain rests against the underside of the bar and is easy to turn by hand. To do this, the chainsaw chain brake must be released.

    The chain to the chainsaw requires sharpening in such cases:

    When the sawdust from sawing wet wood looks like wood flour.

    The chain enters the wood only with strong pressure.

    The cutting edge is visibly damaged.

    While sawing, the saw is pulled to the left or right. This is caused by uneven sharpening.

    Timely determination and elimination of the wear level of the chainsaw chain is the key to a long service life of the entire cutting set.

During the running-in phase, the moving parts must first run in to each other, as in the drive mechanism, there is an increased frictional resistance. On the other hand, during the break-in, you can acquire the necessary skills to work with a chainsaw. This is especially important for those who are working with a chainsaw for the first time.

    To work with a chainsaw when preparing a fuel mixture, use only branded oils. Brands of oil that can be used to prepare the fuel mixture are indicated in the operating instructions. Accurately observe the necessary proportions of oil and gasoline. The octane number of the gasoline used must be at least 90 (except when it is specified in the operating instructions).

    Before starting the chainsaw, be sure to check the presence of oil in the chain lubrication tank. At high speeds, in the absence of chain lubrication, the chain and tire may fail. During operation, you can easily check the presence of chain lubrication. With the chainsaw running at high speeds, point the bar at Blank sheet paper. With normal lubrication, a strip of oil will be visible on the sheet.

    Carefully read the instructions, those sections regarding starting a hot and cold engine. The principle of starting the engine in all saws is the same. Differences can only be in the location of the saw controls (STOP button, choke lever). Do not forget to check the position of the inertia brake before each start. The inertia brake must be off. When the inertial brake is switched off, the chain on the bar is pulled freely by hand (this operation can only be carried out with work gloves).

    When the chainsaw is operated with the inertia brake turned on, the chainsaw body is melted in the clutch area and the chainsaw may ignite. Repairs that are necessary in this case will be recognized as non-warranty and will be carried out only at the expense of the client.

    Run-in must be done within 3-4 hours. When running in, it is forbidden to operate the chainsaw in idle mode for a long time. It is allowed to idle for 15-20 minutes with periodic engine venting at intervals of 20-30 seconds. Then it is necessary to continue running in the operating mode with a small load. This means sawing small diameter wood with minimal effort on the part of the operator.

    After running in the chainsaw, it is necessary to present it to the service center for the control adjustment of the carburetor. Adjustment may only be carried out by a qualified technician. After setting up, you can use the petrol tool according to the instruction manual.

    Characteristics

    Technical parameters of saw chains

    When choosing a chain for a chainsaw, you need to pay attention to several important characteristics:

    • number of links;
    • chain pitch;
    • thickness of the leading link;
    • purpose of use.

    In addition, on our website you can choose a chain according to the saw model through the chain saw guide.

    Number of chain links. Determined by the internal teeth of the chain.

    Chain pitch- the distance between three successive rivets, divided by two. This is a defining parameter, and depending on its value, all existing chains are divided into five groups with a step of 1/4'', 0.325'', 3/8'', 0.404'' and 3/4''.
    1/4” (6.35 mm) pitch is typical for small chains mounted on low-power single-handed saws.

    0.325'' (8.25mm) and 3/8'' (9.3mm) pitch chains are the most common options. More than 80% of saws produced worldwide are equipped with them.

    0.404” (10.26mm) and 3/4” (19.05mm) pitches feature larger link chains with higher performance. For several decades, they were equipped with Russian-made saws, but now they are installed only on powerful felling saws and harvester equipment.

    The larger the chain pitch, the larger the links that make it up and the higher its performance, but the wider the cut. A more powerful saw is required to overcome the increasing cutting resistance. Small pitch chains have other advantages - more teeth per unit length, smooth movement in the kerf and, consequently, reduced vibration, a cleaner cut.

    Drive link thickness. During operation, the chain slides in the groove of the bar, and this sliding should be smooth, without hooks and at the same time without unnecessary “chatter”. The thickness of the shank and the thickness of the groove must strictly correspond to each other, which increases the reliability of the chain fit and eliminates the possibility of its "jumping off". All provided in five standard sizes:

    • 1.1 mm (0.043’’) for low power saws
    • 1.3 mm (0.050’’) household and semi-professional chains,
    • 1.5 mm (0.058’’) powerful and productive saws,
    • 1.6 mm (0.063’’) and 2.0 mm (0.080’’) highly professional saw blades.

    Purpose of use imposes its own requirements on the circuits used. For example, when sawing hard and dirty wood, or when demolishing and building structures, it is better to use special Picco Duro or Rapid Duro carbide chains, which have carbide teeth or linings, giving them unsurpassed strength and durability of use. Some jobs simply cannot be done without their help.

    It is also known that for longitudinal sawing of wood (along the fibers) it is desirable to use special chains. The main difference between longitudinal and transverse type are the angles of attack of the cutting links. For crosscut chains, they are 25-35 degrees. Rip chains (such as Stihl Picco Micro X chains) have sharper angles of 5 to 15 degrees.

    The use of chains inconsistent with their purpose leads either to reduced performance or to increased "aggressiveness", strong vibration and additional load on the chainsaw engine.

    Additional characteristics of the chain are the height of the profile and the depth of cut.

    Profile height. Chains are available in high and low profile depending on the height of the cutting edge above the plane of the guide bar. High profile chains are usually used in professional applications to obtain maximum sawing performance. Low-profile chains are installed on household and amateur class chainsaws, because. thanks to the increased bearing area of the cutting links and the reduced thickness of the sheared chips, they are safer.

    Depth of cut- this is the size of the gap between the upper edge of the tooth and the kerf stop, which regulates the thickness of the chips. Most often there are samples with gaps of 0.025 inches (or 0.635 mm) and 0.030 inches (or 0.762 mm), less often - with gaps up to 0.07 inches (or 1.778 mm), the latter are intended for machine felling units.

    Depth of cut largely determines sawing performance. The larger the gap, the higher the performance. The flip side of performance is vibration. So chains with a small depth of cut in the cut move softer, “twitch” less. Therefore, to balance vibration and performance, often large pitch chains are fitted with shallow cutting depths, and vice versa.

    Overview of popular models

    For Russia, this country of logging, forests, timber industry; a great country in which the supply of firewood for the bulk of the population is a constant urgent need; In countries where horticulture and woodworking are becoming mainstream, chainsaws are of particular importance.

    By tradition, in order to understand the features of chainsaw models, we will focus on some frequently mentioned characteristics. All household chainsaws are designed for occasional and occasional work. These are usually low power instruments with necessary minimum functions for the user who uses the saw occasionally and does not have professional skills in this area.

    Semi-professional chainsaws are chainsaws with which you can perform any work: repair and construction, felling forests. "Weak point" is the inability to use more than 8-10 hours daily. Such saws are often used in the form of loppers in logging.

    And professional chainsaws that have high power With a wide range functionality. They are used in the form of shaft saws, they can work up to 16 hours per day. Light and low-power saws, convenient and simple, designed for household work, cutting firewood. Such chainsaws are sometimes used professionally by the lumberjack for delimbing. There are also universal chainsaws - powerful in felling forests and easy to trim. Signs: smooth, even bottom of the machine; rounded corners; shortened, flat wheel cover; tubular inclined handle; anti-vibration system.

    Long-term work with a vibrating tool can lead to some serious diseases of your joints, so the presence of an anti-vibration system is important for professional models- it's necessary.

    A chainsaw is an indispensable tool, as in household plot, so on suburban area. But even the most reliable “iron” assistant starts to mope, then it doesn’t start, then it stalls. There can be many reasons, both related to the quality of the fuel mixture and the engine.

    There are a lot of nuances, we will not consider them all in this article. And we will “take a closer look” at that part of the engine, which is called the carburetor. And we will try to find the answer to the following questions: when is it necessary to adjust the chainsaw carburetor and, in fact, what is the scheme for such adjustment.

    Chainsaw carburetor device

    Before proceeding with the adjustment, you need to know the device and the principle of operation of the carburetor. This will help to avoid many "complications". So, for starters, let's recall the principle of operation of an internal combustion engine. There is fuel in the cylinder, when burned, a small “explosion” is created, which creates a lot of pressure. This pressure pushes the piston, the piston, having set in motion, rotates the crankshaft. Ultimately, the pressure energy is converted into torque, which drives the chain through the sprocket.

    During normal operation of the engine in each cycle, it burns only up to 10 milligrams of fuel. And the fuel mixture is prepared and supplied in the carburetor.

    Thus, the purpose of the carburetor is to mix the combustible mixture with air in the required proportions. If these proportions are violated, the operation of the engine is disrupted. For example, when mixing, little fuel enters, but on the contrary, there is a lot of air, then such a mixture is called “poor”. Conversely, if there is not enough air, but on the contrary, there is a lot of fuel, then this is a supersaturated mixture. Both cases lead to malfunctions in the normal operation of the engine and require adjustment.

    The carburetor consists of the following basic elements, and although the design may differ depending on the model, the device and the principle of operation are approximately the same:

    • the basis of the carburetor is a tube, which in its characteristics resembles a wind tunnel, air flow enters through it; - an air damper is located across the tube, by its position it either increases the air flow or reduces it;
    • the tube has a constriction - a diffuser, which increases the speed of the air flow just in the place where the fuel supply hole is located;
    • the fuel itself enters the air channel from the atomizer, it enters it through the jet from the float chamber (indicated in the photo as a fuel needle);
    • the float chamber itself serves as a kind of reservoir, the purpose of which is to ensure a constant fuel level at the inlet to the air channel.

    The principle of operation of the carburetor is as follows. A fast air flow flows through the air channel, its speed will also depend on the position of the damper. The float level provides the degree of opening of the fuel supply channel and depends on the position of the same air damper. The air flow, passing through the diffuser, picks up the incoming fuel, sprays it. At this moment, a mixture is formed, which is sucked through the intake pipe into the cylinder.

    In the float chamber, the pressure level is approximately equal to atmospheric, but in the air channel it is rarefied. Due to the pressure difference, the fuel is sucked through the jet into the air channel. The more the air damper is open, the greater the air flow, and, accordingly, more fuel is supplied. More fuel - engine speed increases.

    This is how a carburetor works. There may be nuances in its structure, but knowing how the simplest carburetor works, you can always understand and determine the purpose of other elements.

    When is adjustment necessary?

    In general, the need to adjust the carburetor of a Stihl chainsaw, or any other brand, is quite rare. Signs of a misaligned carburetor are indicated by:

    1. the engine starts and stalls, or does not start - in this case, the cause may be a “poor” fuel mixture;
    2. fuel consumption has increased significantly and there has been an increase in the amount of exhaust gases (fuel does not completely burn out) - the cause may be a supersaturated mixture.

    By itself, the adjustment goes astray in very rare cases, namely:

    • when the fixation of the adjusting screws was broken, there are three of them in total. The reason may be vibration or damage to the protective cap. This is a rather rare case if no one has touched the screws.
    • in case of significant wear of the engine, namely the piston. Then the factory settings are not suitable. In this case, adjusting the carburetor of the Patriot chainsaw, or another model, can save the day for a while. But here it’s time to think more about repairing the engine than adjusting the carburetor of a Husqvarna chainsaw or the like;
    • the cause may be due to the formation of a blockage in the carburetor, the cause may be poor quality gasoline, damaged air filter or scale. In this embodiment, in addition to adjustment, it is necessary to disassemble and flush the carburetor.

    Chainsaw carburetor adjustment

    Although quite rare, it may still be necessary to adjust the carburetor. We note right away that not everything can be done on our own, except to have a tachometer and at least once see with our own eyes how to do it correctly.

    To adjust the carburetor of the Makita chainsaw, like most other models, there are three adjusting screws. Although some manufacturers carefully removed two of them, leaving only one for the user to experiment. So, three screws, on the carburetor body they are marked with the following letters:

    • L - with the help of this screw, low engine speeds are adjusted;
    • H - high speed adjustment;
    • T - to adjust the idle speed (it is left for experiments).

    In general, carburetors are already adjusted by the manufacturer for optimal mode work, and the screws are designed for more precise adjustment of the carburetor of the Champion chainsaw and others, in difficult climatic conditions such as highlands, etc. Since the air is thinner there, finer tuning is required for the instrument to work. Under normal circumstances, this is not necessary.

    To adjust the carburetor of the Goodluck chainsaw, as well as other brands, two screws L and H are used to create the appropriate quality of the fuel mixture. To create a lean mixture, the screws are turned clockwise, this allows you to increase the number of revolutions, i.e. thus, set high speeds. Accordingly, when turning the screws counterclockwise, the mixture is more saturated, this regulates the low number of engine revolutions. Thus, when adjusting the carburetor of the Partner chainsaw, by turning the screws clockwise, we increase the number of revolutions, counterclockwise - decrease.

    For any adjustment of the carburetor of a Chinese chainsaw or another, a number of requirements must be observed:

    1. fine adjustment is always carried out when the engine is warm (engine operation for at least 10 minutes);
    2. the condition of the air filter must be satisfactory, i.e. clean and not clogged;
    3. when the chain is rotated with the help of the adjusting screw T, it is necessary to achieve its complete stop, for this the screw is turned counterclockwise.

    And do not forget about our own safety, the chain should be directed in the opposite direction to us, the saw should stand securely on flat surface and do not touch the cutting part of any objects. With fine adjustment, the screws are adjusted in the following sequence L - H - T. Using the screw L, it is necessary to “find” the maximum number of engine revolutions. To do this, turn the screw clockwise, or in the opposite direction, until we “feel” the maximum. This is where you need a tachometer, or a sensitive ear for music, and you should know the sound of the maximum engine speed, if you overdo it, especially with the H regulator, the engine will fail. Repair will cost a good penny, therefore, we strongly recommend entrusting such work to a professional.

    If you have a tachometer and know the maximum number of revolutions of your engine, then you can, at your own peril and risk, try to complete the adjustment. It will look something like this: we find the closest speed value with the L regulator, then we return the same regulators counterclockwise by a quarter of the turn of the screw. We leave and go to the H regulator, and if it is over-tightened, the engine will fail.

    We turn this regulator ¼ turn of the screw counterclockwise (we warm up the engine before this). We carefully listen or focus on the tachometer. If the sound is our ideal, when the engine is at its maximum, it works like a four-stroke engine. If the mixture is too rich, the sound is screeching. You can try to achieve an average value, not have an ideal, but remove the screeching sound with a screw. And if the work of the saw suits you, it is better to leave it as it is, it is better than being left without an engine.

    If it was possible to more or less adjust the screws L and H, then there was a little left - to adjust the idle speed. The ideal here is to keep the motor running evenly in all positions until the chain starts to move. Turn this screw counterclockwise until the chain stops. If this cannot be achieved, the help of a specialist is needed. An unregulated chainsaw is a very dangerous thing.

    A well and properly adjusted carburetor is:

    • the chain is idling "stands";
    • the engine accelerates quickly;
    • The engine works like a four-stroke engine.
