Information business and making money via the Internet require mobility. One computer is not enough, since you often have to conduct business away from home. A laptop helps out in this situation.

A laptop is a convenient, useful electronic device; it is an indispensable tool, one for remote work, the other for communication and entertainment.

Personal computers and laptops are often replaced by tablets and smartphones, but they will not replace them because the capabilities and power of a laptop are much higher than mobile devices.

A laptop without the Internet is like a car without fuel: beautiful, stylish, but useless, especially if you are in the information business. For beginners, a natural question arises: How to connect a laptop to the Internet? There are several ways to make the connection. Let's look at everything in order.

How to connect a laptop to the Internet via wifi

Let's look at the situation when you bought a new laptop, you want to quickly visit the World Wide Web, but you don’t have a home network, what should you do?

First you need to find a provider, conclude an agreement with him, choose, buy a good, high-quality router (wifi router).

Many providers provide their services, set up a home network, connect the Internet themselves, installing their own routers. All you have to do is wait for the visit of a company representative and pay for his services.

Providers such as Rostelecom, Beeline send network settings for the router automatically. In this case, the “Receive automatically” checkboxes are checked everywhere.

Connect the Wi-Fi router to the power supply; the Internet cable is connected to a special connector, which differs in color from the other connectors.

When installing the router, you should take the setup instructions and follow all the instructions. A little advice, when choosing a place to install a wifi router, pay attention to the following factors:

  • Availability of connection to the mains (220V socket);
  • Relative proximity of stationary consumers (computer, TV);
  • Close distance to mobile devices (for better signal reception);
  • There are no objects in the path of the router signal that create interference. Such interferences that drown out the signal can be: electrical appliances, an aquarium, concrete barriers.

Wireless laptop connection

Now you can wirelessly connect your laptop to the Internet. Enter the “Wi-Fi network” settings. Look for information about login parameters on your router, or look at its instructions. Enter the IP address, login, password.

If you are connecting for the first time, quick settings will be offered. Select your place of residence, the name of the provider, fill in the remaining fields provided. If you did not find your provider in the proposed list, then select the connection type in the settings (check with your provider), enter your login, password, save, connect.

Make sure your laptop is equipped with a WiFi driver. The presence of the driver must be checked by going to: “Device Manager”.

When the module is installed correctly, the name is displayed in full. When the driver is missing or not defined, next to the name: “wireless adapter” you will see a yellow exclamation mark. Download drivers from the official website of the laptop manufacturer.

Pay attention to the bottom of the screen (right corner), find the Internet icon - an image of an antenna (maybe a computer icon). Click the icon, select “wireless network”, enter the password, click “Connect”.

Let's consider an option if there is no possibility of connecting to a landline Internet. For example: a rural area where there is no telephone line, no Internet, or you travel a lot around the world.

How to connect a laptop to the Internet via a modem

In this situation, a 3G or 4G modem, the appearance of which resembles a flash drive with a SIM card installed, will help out.

The connection process is very fast and simple. When you turn on the system for the first time, it will launch the connection setup program. If you bought a modem from official communications representatives, everything is initially configured for Internet operation from an official company.

You don't have to enter anything manually. The only thing you will need to do is determine the tariff, use the menu to activate the SIM card, balance, and then connect.

The next time you connect, you need to connect the modem to the laptop, then click the “Connect” button.

Most USB modem models include a “WiFi router” function, which converts the modem into an access point for connecting all possible devices.

How to connect a laptop to the Internet via wifi in public places

Let’s say there is a need to connect to the Internet via wifi while in an office or cafeteria, how to do this? Very simple!

Click on the wifi icon on the taskbar (bottom right), a small window will open, which will display a list of all WiFi networks available at this point. In this list, you need to click on the WiFi network you need, then click on the “Connection” button that appears.

If the network is locked with a password, a tab will appear asking you to enter the password. Check the password with the cafe (office) employee, after entering the password, click “ok”, you are online!

How to troubleshoot occasional connection problems

What should I do if there is no Internet connection icon on the panel?

This sometimes happens when the wifi module is turned off. Open the “Control Panel”, then the “Network and Internet” section, then “Network and Sharing Center”, find “Adapter parameter changes”. Next, look for a connection called “Wireless Network Connection”, turn it on with the right mouse button - “Enable”

Another problem that often arises is “no connection available.” The “connected to the network” icon, in this case, is covered with a red cross, which means there is no connection.

The Wi-Fi module may have turned off; you need to connect it. Find the battery icon on the taskbar, right-click, activate “Windows Mobility Center”.

A window will open, click the “Enable wireless connection” button.

From this article you learned how to connect a laptop to the Internet via wifi. Using the recommendations described above, you can easily organize a home network.

As you know, a computer without access to the World Wide Web is not of particular interest. Almost everyone needs the Internet, but not everyone knows how to set it up. The procedure for connecting a laptop to the Internet is practically no different from a similar operation on a desktop PC. There are only a few methods that will be discussed in detail.

Connecting a laptop to wired Internet

Wired Internet has long become a common pleasure that many people have. This connection has both pros and cons. The access speed will be relatively high, but the laptop cannot be carried far with you, since the wire limits the distance. All settings are usually performed by wizards upon connection. You will also need to configure everything again after reinstalling the OS. To do this you will need to follow a couple of steps.

1. In the control panel, go to the “Network and Internet” tab.

2. Select “Manage networks...”.

3. Click the “Set up a new connection...” button.

4. Select “New connection”, then click on the 2nd option.

5. Now you will need to enter the information provided by the provider (login, password). Here you can set a name and attempt to connect. If everything is configured correctly, then the Internet should appear on the laptop.

Connecting a laptop to Wi-fi

The most convenient method. If you have a configured Wi-Fi router at home, you can connect your laptop to the Internet in just a couple of minutes.

Procedure:
1. Activate the wireless module on the laptop.
2. Open the “Network Connections” tab in the control panel.
3. Now you need to find a wireless connection and activate it through the menu (the “Enable” item).
4. All that remains is to select a specific point from the list and try to connect with it.

If you previously set an access password, you need to enter it. If the network is open, then you do not need to enter anything. However, you should definitely set up a combination to secure the connection so that no one can connect to it.

Connecting to the Internet using a modem

After purchasing a modem, the first thing you need to do is connect it to a free USB port. Usually all components are installed automatically. Once the software installation is complete, you can begin the setup process.

1. Go to the control panel, find “Network Center...”.

2. You need to “Set up a new connection”, then click on “Internet Connection”.

3. A list of three options will appear, you need to click “Dial-up”.

4. Now you need to enter the information that was provided by your service provider and complete the setup process.

Setting up a connection on a laptop is very simple, but you must first decide on the connection method. It is very convenient to use a Wi-Fi router, as you can connect not only a computer, but also a smartphone.

In one of the previous articles we examined a very relevant issue. Here we will imagine the opposite situation: how to connect wired Internet if you have a wifi router.

How to connect wired Internet from a router?

And first of all, let's look at how. The placement of the router depends on how often you plan to use it: if you just need a Wi-Fi access point (that is, you will not connect anything to it via LAN), then it is advisable to mount the router somewhere upstairs in the middle of the apartment.

If you are going to connect wired Internet from the router to a computer or laptop, you will have to run the network cable to the room where the computer is installed.

Now let's look at connecting the Wi-Fi router directly. For this example, a TP-Link router is used.

So, to connect the Internet (wired) through the router, turn the device towards you to the side where the LAN ports are located.

This router has five LAN connectors: four yellow ports and one blue connector. Yellow ports are needed to connect equipment (such as computers, NAS servers, etc.), and the blue port is needed to connect wired Internet - it is called “Internet” or “WAN”.

Take the provider cable and connect it to the blue WAN port: the light on the front panel of the wifi router should light up.

This means that wired Internet from the provider is successfully supplied to the router.

It is advisable to check the network settings on the computer if it will be used in the future. To do this, go to the “Start” menu, go to the “Control Panel” tab and click on the “Network and Access Center” icon

A window will open where in the upper left corner there will be a tab “Changing adapter settings”: click on it, select your LAN connection and go to the properties of this connection.

In the next window, you should find the “Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” tab in the list of settings, go there and make sure that the “Obtain an IP address automatically” tab is checked.

Now let's move on to setting up a wifi router to connect to wired Internet.

How to connect cable Internet through a router: setting up a router

Launch an Internet browser and enter the IP address of your router in the address bar (depending on the model, IP addresses may vary, but mostly it is 192.168.0.1, less often 192.168.1.1).

If everything is done correctly, an authorization window will appear.

Now you need to enter your login and password to enter the router settings (in standard configurations this is the word “admin”, which is entered in both fields).

Go to the “Quick Settings” tab and click the “Next” button

You have several options for connecting to the Internet:

Let's take a closer look at this point:

  • - Auto-detection - as the name suggests, this connection automatically configures your router and is often used when there are no settings from the provider.
  • - PPPoE – when you select this item, an additional window will open where you should enter the password and login provided by your Internet provider.

PPTP/Russia/PPTP – almost identical to the previous connection option, except for specifying the type of IP address

  • - Dynamic IP address – each time the client connects to the Internet, the client receives a new IP address from the range specified by the provider.
  • - Static IP address – a permanent address used to connect to the Internet.

I have wired internet, how do I connect wifi?

Now you need to set up a Wi-Fi connection. To do this, go to the next tab and in the “Wireless Mode” field, set the marker to “Enable”.

In the “Wireless network name” field, enter the name you like best, check the “WPA, Personal WPA2” box (this is the choice to protect your Wi-Fi connection) and enter .

Connecting a laptop to the Internet can be done in several ways. This could be a network cable, a Wi-Fi router, a network card, or a connection to another computer. Let's take a closer look at each of the options.

Option 1: Connect using Wi-Fi.

This is perhaps the easiest way to connect. Almost every modern laptop is equipped with a Wi-Fi module. If you find yourself in the coverage area of one of the networks, then you should take the following steps:

  • activate the Wi-Fi module;
  • go to Start - Connection and select Wireless network connection from the list;
  • we decide on the network we want to connect to;
  • if it is protected, then you need to check with the administrator for the password;
  • after this you will have full access to the network.

If for some reason you do not have a Wi-Fi module, then buy yourself a removable USB adapter.

Option 2. USB modem.

Such modems have recently become very popular because they make it easy to access the Internet at any time. Connecting a laptop to the Internet in this way is only possible if there is good coverage and an adequate tariff plan. If you really want to, you can find a provider that provides mobile Internet along with a 3G modem.

The connection procedure may vary. There are providers that provide free setup on their own service. In some cases, there are special programs that install drivers on your computer automatically. But you should not exclude the possibility that you will have to make the necessary settings manually. It will be like this:

  • insert the modem into the USB connector of your laptop;
  • agree to the installation and the License Agreement;
  • click the “Finish” button;
  • enter the PIN code from the SIM card;
  • a connection is created.

Some details of how to turn on the Internet on a laptop may vary somewhat depending on the selected provider.

Option 3. Network cable.

The laptop can be connected to the network the old fashioned way, using a network cable (as is the case with a regular personal computer). In this case, the cable should be plugged into the corresponding connector of the network card.

Your OS will automatically detect your local network. With one click of the mouse, a connection is created (if necessary, enter your login and password).

Option 4. Using a computer connected to the Internet.

If this option suits you, then how to connect internet to laptop using a PC, you need to decide on the connection method itself. It could be:

  • wireless connection;
  • network cable.

First of all, you need to consider the option of a network cable. To do this, you will need a PC with configured Internet and two network cards. Using the first board we connect to the network. The second one must be configured for your home network. We set the IP, for example, 192.168.45, then the network mask - 222.222.222.0 and DNS (it is indicated by the provider). We specify the IP address of the first board as the gateway. In the connection properties, check “Allow others to use this Internet connection.”

In a laptop, all settings will be the same, except for IP - for example, 192.168.44. Accordingly, the gateway will be the address of the second board, for us it is 192.168.45.

It should be remembered that in order to access the Internet from a laptop, the computer must be turned on all the time, and this, you see, is very inconvenient. The only alternative is to buy a router.

Don't worry that some settings seem too complicated. Once you figure out how to connect the Internet to a laptop at least once, all this will change. Congratulations! Now you know several solutions to your problem.

A laptop has long ceased to be a luxury - it is a tool for work, relaxation and entertainment. Many have already appreciated and fallen in love with this wonderful device; for some, it has become a full-fledged replacement for a desktop PC.

If you connect your laptop to the Internet, it will be able to reveal its potential even more. And it pleases. Today we will look at several options for “how to connect a laptop to the Internet.” Are you ready? Let's begin.

Option 1. How to connect a laptop to the Internet using Wi-Fi.
This is one of the easiest ways to connect. Most modern laptops are equipped with a Wi-Fi module. If you are within range of a Wi-Fi network, you can connect in the following way:

  • Turn on the Wi-Fi module on the laptop;
  • Go to Start/Connection, find and click Wireless network connection;
  • Select the network to which we want to connect;
  • Double click on the selected network - and we are connected. If the network is protected, you will need to enter a password (check with the administrator/owner of the network);
  • When a connection is established, you get full access to the Internet.

If there is no Wi-Fi module, it is possible to purchase and install a miniature USB Wi-Fi module that can become a full replacement for missing/non-functioning equipment on a laptop.

Option 2. How to connect a laptop to the Internet using a USB modem*.
Nowadays, USB modems are popular, with which you can access the Internet. This access option is interesting if there is good coverage and adequate prices in the tariff plan. If you wish, you can find providers that provide mobile Internet complete with a 3G modem. Depending on your equipment and service provider, the connection procedure may vary.

In some cases, providers set up a connection for free in their service center; sometimes you can find special programs that automatically install hardware drivers, create a connection and configure Internet access parameters. It is possible that you will have to connect and configure the USB modem yourself. How it usually happens:

  • Insert the SIM card into the USB modem;
  • Insert the USB modem into the USB port on the laptop;
  • The system will detect a new device (you need to select a language during the installation process);
  • We agree to the License Agreement and the installation location of the program;
  • After installation is complete, click “Finish”;
  • The program will start automatically. If not, start in manual mode and enter the PIN code (written on the card for the SIM card);
  • The program is ready to use. Click “Connect with...”. After creating the connection, we can use the Internet.

*Connection diagram may vary depending on the equipment used and the ISP (service provider).

Option 3. How to connect a laptop to the Internet via a cable using a network card*.

  2. Find and click there, select Local Area Connection and double-click on it with the left mouse button;
  3. Then select and click Properties, in the list we need TCP/IP Protocol, then click Properties again;
  4. Finally we reached our destination. If the provider provides automatic settings, select “Obtain automatically” for the IP and for the DNS server. Clicking OK will complete the network card settings. All settings are complete. Welcome to the world of the Internet.
  5. **If your provider does NOT provide automatic settings, select “Use the following IP” and manually enter the IP, Mask and Default Gateway.
  6. The next step is to register the primary and alternate addresses for the DNS server;
  7. After clicking OK, the settings made are saved. The Internet connection will be made automatically when you turn on the laptop.

*Descriptions of settings may vary depending on your service provider.
** Please check with your ISP (service provider) for the information required for setting up your network card.

Ignore the apparent complexity of the connection settings. After you make the settings at least once, everything will fall into place. After several trial connections, you can easily set up Internet access not only for yourself, but also for all your “technically hopeless” friends.
