In the central part, a lever is attached to the rack, with the help of which the rack pipe can be rotated around a vertical axis. For convenience, the lever is located on bolted connection, which makes it possible to fold it by lowering it down.

A massive hook is welded onto the upper and lower ends of the pipe. Thick and short cylinders are installed on the threshold and on the top beam of the garage door frame. When the tubular post is rotated, the hook rotates around a vertical axis and engages with the cylinder at the top and bottom of the gate.

The strength of the mechanism is not inferior to the flask design, but a more complex version to make with your own hands requires the use of alloy steels and high-quality welding.

Locking pin and rod locks

Twenty years ago, a very popular design among garage owners was a locking design in the form of a pinwheel or a rotating steel rail mounted on one of the doors. To make such a lock, it was necessary to weld a rotation axis on one of the gate leaves and make two stops to fix the locking element in the closed state; most often, two pieces of steel angle were used.

To close the mechanism, it was enough to rotate the locking frame around a horizontal axis. Simple and relatively reliable device made this design one of the most popular options among car enthusiasts. For a long time it was believed that it was impossible to open it from the outside.

The most simple circuits There have been and will remain for a long time, vertical clamps installed in the upper and lower parts of one of the sashes. This scheme is very simple to manufacture; for reliable operation and door locking, special sleeves or pipe cuttings will need to be installed in the upper and lower beams of the gate frame. Over time, dirt accumulates inside the sleeves, and in winter - frozen condensation, so periodic cleaning and purging of the fastening is required.

The gate performs two functions: security and decorative. So that she would guard the garden or country cottage area properly, she needs reliable constipation. This could be a regular deadbolt, or some other locking device. You can buy it in the store household goods or make it yourself.

It is installed from the inside, but it is impossible to open it from the street. They come in a wide variety. For example, those that work on the principle of a lever: one arm, under the weight of its weight, falls into the latch and the system automatically locks. From that side you can only open it by pulling the string, which, as a rule, is not visible at all.

A latch is often placed on the gate as a safety net, to complement the device that can only be used to lock the entrance from the outside. Its installation is simple, and its convenience is that in case extreme situation, for example, a fire, it opens very easily.

To fix the gate leaf, summer residents often use an ordinary hook with a bracket to latch it. It is very easy and simple to make and install.

Take a wire of the required length so that it bends and does not break, heat it over a fire or gas stove, and use pliers to give it the desired shape. Then the product is hardened by immersing it in cold water. The bracket is made using the same technology.

As a locking device, you can use a latch, a bolt shaped like a window or door latch. It can be freely purchased at any hardware store at a low price. Therefore, as a rule, no one is in a hurry to do it with their own hands. It is convenient on a wicket door built into the gate leaf. Can be locked from top and bottom.

But if the door moves away, does not fit tightly and there is a backlash, then the use of such a device will become impossible. The metal rod will not be above the shut-off hole. Vertical overhead is often used for fixing. But it is quite suitable as a gate lock.

It is only manufactured in smaller sizes, and unlike a vertical valve, it is installed perpendicular to the rack. It comes in the form of a flat metal plate or a round rod. Has been used for centuries. Its design is simple: a shell-holder, a movable rod, a flat one with a loop-pocket, and a round one with a fixing eyelet. Each owner can also make it with his own hands and using ordinary household tools.

Latches are also used to lock the wicket door. They are different, but the principle of their operation is the same. When the sash closes, the bolt lowers into the locking device under its own weight. It opens easily from the inside, and in order to lift the locking device, you will need a string or wire attached to it.

Spring-based latches are widely used and are installed from the inside in addition to locks.
