Mechanical watch designer. Radio designer "electronic clock". Desktop electronic clock with thermometer

With the growth of progress and improvement of technology, it became possible to create systems that could accurately maintain time in wide range conditions. Since the time base has switched from mechanical to electrical, the time display must follow this principle. That is, move from boring switch options to more modern ones.

Digital watches are one of the most popular things in the world today. They are literally everywhere! On your hand, on the table, in the kitchen near the stove and even in the hallway! They have become more popular than older clocks that operate on a mechanical principle, now known as analog clocks.

The time obtained by an analog clock came from either a pendulum or a spring. Pendulums are unsuitable for use on moving platforms such as a ship, and the springs unwind increasingly slowly as they release built-up tension.

Devices called "segment displays" were designed to display time digitally. And although now the range of digital watches is quite large, you now have the opportunity to create your own electronic watch with your own hands! And not just a watch that would serve as a chronometer, but a watch made with your own hands!

This designer watch is equipped with a special sensor that will allow you to display the temperature in real time! It’s not for nothing that their second name is electronic table clock with a thermometer. These diy kit watches can be assembled with your own hands literally from available materials. All you need is a soldering iron, flux, solder and a little knowledge of how to use these things. And also, do not forget to follow safety precautions.

and won't take up much of your time. On average, the required time is 30-90 minutes, depending on soldering skills. You can assemble a watch with your own hands from scrap materials not only yourself, but also together with your son or relatives.

Or you can even gather a group of friends and make a whole fun out of the assembly! Yes, the process is not quick, but what emotions await you when the watch you made with your own hands starts working!

This set, after assembly, will replace your regular LED table clock. They can be a great gift for a novice radio amateur, a teaching tool for physics lessons, or just a fun construction toy to make with friends.

By making a clock on a microcontroller with your own hands, you will get a multifunctional device that, in addition to displaying the time, can also show the temperature.

By making a DIY clock for your kitchen, or replacing your regular clock for the home, you can pleasantly surprise your friends, wife or loved ones when they see such a powerful and cool device. If you have a question: “How to set up a LED clock?” It's all very simple! After you assemble the LED clock with your own hands, following the instructions. There will be special buttons on the case with which you can set the required time without any problems.

You know they say: “ Best gift“It’s a gift made with your own hands.” The way it is! This kit will help you make a watch that you can later give to anyone! After all, this is not just a trinket, it is a functional device that brings benefits! LED desktop clocks are powered by 5 volts and consume only 50 mA, which will allow them to operate from a USB port, power bank, etc.

Due to the very low energy consumption, they will work for an impressive amount of time! This makes it a great digital thermometer clock for your home. And the ability to receive power from a USB port will allow you to maintain their functionality even when your electricity is cut off.

Desktop electronic clock with thermometer

Attention!

To assemble this clock designer, you need minimal knowledge of electronics. And also: skills in working with a soldering iron, flux, solder. Having a multimeter is highly recommended. Follow safety precautions when assembling this watch, as the soldering iron has high temperature. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the color printed circuit board may differ depending on the revision (be white or yellow). This does not affect the functionality of the device in any way.

Often, while reading this site, I came across some rather interesting radio designs. And since I used to do a little amateur radio, I decided to remember my hobby and buy something interesting.
Of all the construction kits, I liked the watch, which, according to the seller, can tell the time.
And since there was no review of talking watches here before, I decided to talk about my purchase.
Of course, there were a lot of reviews on similar construction sets, but these ones are a little different.
The seller sent the designer quite quickly and it came in a standard white bag:

Inside we found another package containing all the components:

After unpacking this package we find 3 more packages inside:

The white package contains the speaker, the next contains loose elements, and the third contains elements for assembling the case.
Speaker 0.5W and 8 ohm + 2 pieces of wire:

Then I unpacked the middle package:
The first thing that caught my eye were 3 microcircuits and sockets for them, stuck with their legs into foamed polyethylene for protection:

4 large LED indicators and tint film for them:

Bag of radioelements:

In the bag: 2 sets of resistors - 10 Ohm (9 pcs.) and 300 Ohm (9 pcs.), 1 thermistor, 1 powerful LED, 1 photoresistor, 1 clock quartz, 3 buttons, 1 power connector, 5 transistors - 8550 , 6 ceramic capacitors, 1 electrolytic capacitor - 470 uF, battery mounting area - CR1220.

A bag of screws and nuts for assembling the case:

High-quality double-sided printed circuit board:

And the last is the instructions in English:

The instructions are understandable in principle, if it weren’t for a low-quality photocopy. In some places the text is not visible at all.

Assembly takes place in several stages:
1. Solder in all the resistors, and R18-R13 are 10K resistors, and R1-R7 are 300 Ohm resistors
2. Install 2 capacitors C2 and C4 with a capacity of 22pF
3. Quartz resonator
4. 3 capacitors marked 104 in places C1, C2, C3
5. Solder the holder for the battery and LED
6. Solder 3 sockets for the microcircuits according to the installation key
7. Solder in 3 buttons
8. 5 transistors, you can’t go wrong here, because how to install is shown directly on the board
9. Install an electrolytic capacitor
10. Power connector
11. Photo and thermistor. You need to install them tightly without cutting off the legs, having first figured out how they will stand in the body.
12. It is imperative to solder the wires under the speaker, otherwise after installing the indicators you will no longer be able to get there
13. Solder in LED indicators. Be sure to look at the location of the points, because... The 3rd indicator is positioned point up.
14. Insert microcircuits
15. Solder the speaker.
Everything basic is collected, now you can turn it on and check:

The first time I turned on power, the clock muttered something and seemed to work:

They work incorrectly right away, so according to the instructions, to put everything in order and reset, you need to hold down all three buttons. In this case, the time will be reset to 12:00

Well, in order for the settings not to be reset, you need to buy a CR1220 battery, otherwise it’s a pain to reset everything every time. At the same time, it’s better to buy it in China, where it costs a penny, but here we paid 200 rubles for the wartu, wow, that’s easy.

Next, unpack the body parts and clear them of paper:

We get transparent parts and assemble the body, everything here is intuitive:

When assembling, we align the speaker with the holes in the housing, etc. I couldn’t think of anything better, glued it with hot glue:

We assemble it to the end, installing a tint film in front of the indicators and screw it on.

As a result, in about 1-2 evenings you can quite easily assemble a quite nice and functional watch.

Further on the functions, what they can do:
1. It’s natural to show the time :)
2. Show temperature
3. Show the year, day and day of the week according to the account. At the same time, it can periodically scroll, depending on the clock settings, after approximately 5 seconds the temperature, date and clock readings
4. Say the time hourly, the time at which the clock will do this can be set
5. There is one alarm clock
6. By pressing the top button, the watch can pronounce the current time
7. You can turn on the LED, getting a kind of night light mode

I won’t describe in detail how everything is turned on and configured, because... The buttons are no different in function and operation from the operation of the watches already reviewed here earlier.
The only difference is in one more button - the top one, when you press it briefly, the time is pronounced in English, and when you press it for a long time, the LED lights up and the clock illuminates the room like a night light.

The top right button cycles through the clock settings, and the bottom right button sets the values.
If you immediately start pressing the lower right, you can sequentially go through the readings: temperature-year-date and month-day of the week according to the account and again time. In this case, by pressing the upper right button you can adjust the readings.
Well, according to the sensors, I’m not sure that it shows the temperature 100% accurately, it can be adjusted, the light sensor works perfectly, dimming the brightness of the display to a comfortable level in the dark.

So the advantages:
1 Very interesting kit for assembly
2. Quality board and parts
3. Does not require special knowledge other than the ability to solder and direct hands
4. The watch is quite big-eyed and visible even from afar
5. Excellent display dimming function in the dark
6. Hourly voice notification in English
7. Useful feature night light
8. There is an alarm clock

Minuses:
1. After a month of work, the speaker was damaged, which, however, was solved by installing a new suitable
2. The design does not provide for mounting the speaker, you have to farm
3. We have to come up with external power supply, because... There is no power supply included, although for such a price you wouldn’t expect it :)
4. The battery for watches is expensive here, we could use a more common option like in computers.

Well, as an addition to anyone interested, and to listen to the clock chatter, here is a video of the assembly:
Part 1 Unpacking and soldering

Part 2. Assembly into the case and overview of functions

I am not a super professional in radio design, I could have made some mistakes. I'm just a hobbyist.
I hope you liked the reviewer, thanks for your attention :)

I'm planning to buy +36 Add to favorites I liked the review +38 +71

This review is for beginner radio amateurs (those who like to solder), for those who are interested in the process itself. Minimum details. You can evaluate your skill.
Let's quickly go over the form in which everything arrived.

Standard bag with a lock, there are several more bags in it.

The kit included:
- Figured-cut parts for assembling the plexiglass case.

The parts are covered with paper to protect them from scratches.

- Fee.
Manufactured by high level. All holes are metallized.

- USB power cable.

- Instructions. Photocopy in poor quality.

If anyone needs it, you can take a look.
Four in one indicator.

- The indicator had a protective film.
The most important ones are the STC15W404AS microcontroller and the DS1302 real-time clock chip.

Small things in bulk:
box for backup power supply, tweeter, resistors, capacitors, two buttons, quartz, power connector, four screws with nuts, thermal and photoresistor.

All details on the board are not only labeled, but also (conditionally) drawn.
I started with resistors and capacitors.

Added sockets and quartz.

More bulky parts came into play.

I soldered the box for backup power. We should have done this a little earlier. Soldering was inconvenient.

I inserted the microcircuits into the sockets.

I soldered the thermistor and photoresistor.

I wiped the board, checked the soldering, bit off anything that protruded too much. I have to take a bite just because I don’t want to. Otherwise there will be problems with assembly into the case.

Soldered in the indicators. How to solder, everything is indicated on the signet. It's hard to confuse.

Connected.
They work!

I sanded the plexiglass and assembled everything into the case.

And here are the dimensions 62*35mm.

The size of the numbers is 10*20mm.
It's time to explore their capabilities.
The clock is assembled and works, but it requires adjustment.
I adjusted the time according to .
The first step is to reset all settings. Otherwise, they cannot be forced to work adequately. Without this operation my watch would not be adjusted. Either the temperature will be shown incorrectly (a couple of times it was -7˚C), or the day of the week cannot be adjusted.
Press both buttons simultaneously and hold. After 5 seconds, the clock will show 11:59, then (after another 5 seconds) 12:00 and the alarm will beep. Now you can configure.
The settings can be divided into two conditional groups. We begin all manipulations with the time indication mode, that is, when the watch shows the time.
First group of settings:
1. The first two clicks on the top button activate the clock setting. The first press is to set the hours, the second press is to set the minutes. Use the bottom button to set the desired value.

A small addition. When setting the time, the imaginary seconds (we don't see them) are reset to zero every time new time parameters are entered.
2. The next two presses (third and fourth) on the top button activate the alarm setting. The third press is to set the hours, the fourth press is to set the minutes. Use the bottom button to set the desired value.
3. The next press on the top button (fifth) activates the alarm clock itself. The luminous dot in the lower right corner indicates that the alarm is on (turned on/off with the bottom button).

4. The sixth and seventh presses set the hourly signal. The sixth press sets the time (hours) from which it starts. The seventh sets the time (hours) at which it ends. Use the bottom button to set the desired value.
Those. If the value 8:20 is entered, this means that the hourly signal will sound from 8-00 to 20-00.
5. The eighth press activates the hourly signal. The luminous dot in the lower right corner (in settings) indicates that the hourly signal is turned on (turned on/off with the bottom button).

Second group of settings:
1. Press the bottom button. The watch goes into temperature display mode. Here you can calibrate (adjust) the temperature using a reference thermometer.

Use the top button to adjust to the desired value.
2. A second press on the bottom button switches to setting the month and date. Use the top button to activate the month change. Use the bottom button to set the desired value.
The next press on the top button takes you to the date setting. Use the bottom button to set the desired value.

3. The next press of the lower button switches to the day of the week setting.

A little complicated. Therefore, in order not to carry out similar manipulations every time after a power outage, it is better to buy and immediately install a backup power source (CR1220).
A few words about the light sensor. There are only two modes: day and night.

The controller controls the brightness mode depending on the voltage on the 9th leg. Switching occurs at a voltage of about 4.3V-4.6V with slight hysteresis. When the voltage exceeds 4.6V, the economical backlight turns on; when it drops below 4.3V, it turns on at full brightness. Hysteresis is necessary so that the brightness does not switch randomly at the illumination limit in twilight lighting. It is formed by a divider from resistor R1 (10 kOhm) and photoresistor R4.
I measured the current consumption in various modes. I think this information will be of interest to many.

In normal mode it consumes 26-33mA. Depends on the number of indicator segments involved (roughly speaking, 2mA per segment). In night mode, the current consumption drops to 10-11mA.
Regarding the display mode.
In normal mode (factory settings), the clock shows 45 seconds time, 5 seconds temperature, 5 seconds month/date, 5 seconds day of the week.
It can be changed by connecting pins 6 and 7 of the microcontroller to ground (GND).
If you connect the 6th leg and GND, the clock will show 50 seconds time, 5 seconds month/date, 5 seconds day of the week. If you connect the 7th leg and GND, the clock will show 55 seconds time and 5 seconds temperature. If you connect both legs (and 6 and 7 legs) to GND, the clock will only show the time.
Everything is provided on the board. It is enough to hang the “snot” in the right place.

A few words about the accuracy of the move. This specimen ran away by 6 seconds in a week. I think it’s not bad (sometimes better, sometimes worse). It all depends on the quartz.
To increase the contrast of the numbers and avoid empty segments being visible, I inserted a piece of tinted plastic.

That's basically it.
It's time to take stock.
A good DIY kit for beginning radio amateurs to test their skills. Moreover, this is not just a set for training, but in the end it turned out to be a good watch.
What I wrote should be enough for a correct conclusion.
If something is unclear, ask questions. I hope it helped at least someone.
Good luck!

Greetings to all readers website!
In this article, I want to talk about such a thing as an electronic designer.

I want to say right away that those who think that it’s cheaper to buy ready-made ones don’t have to read any further! This article is for those who are at least a little interested or interested in radio electronics. And also for those who decided to join this hobby.

I became interested in radio electronics while still a schoolboy. Assembled a detector radio receiver and others primitive circuits. And then my father and I bought a Soviet electronic construction set Start 7176 “Electronic watch”.

I assembled them, but they didn’t work, either I messed something up, or some part turned out to not be working, but they never worked. It was insulting and annoying. But nevertheless, even this experience was very useful, and working with the designer was very educational.

And now, many years later, I came across the reviews (,) and decided to buy one for myself, choosing the green ones with the body.
I ordered it on the website. The parcel took 21 days, delivery is free, but without track. I received it at my post office, everything was as usual, without incident.

This item comes in the form of a small package.

Let's open it up and see what's inside.

Set contents
- Fee
- Seven-segment digital indicators with a dot - 4 pcs.
- Microcircuits - 2 pcs.
- Loose powder (resistors, capacitors, transistors, quartz, other elements)
- Power cable
- Body parts
- Instructions

The included instructions are in Chinese. This is enough for assembly (the circuit design language is the same for everyone), but there were problems with setup.

Build process
We will need:
- soldering iron;
- solder;
- side cutters;
- knife.

It is customary to start the assembly with passive elements (resistors, capacitors, buttons, etc.).
The set includes two types of resistors (510 and 4.7K), they are color coded. You can also use an ohmmeter. But in reality everything turned out to be much simpler, they were signed.

I placed the resistors according to the diagram so that they would not fall out and bend the contacts with reverse side. Then I cut off the excess with side cutters and soldered everything in one fell swoop.

This photo shows the prepared resistor contacts and one row has already been soldered.

Soldered the buttons

Sockets for microcircuits, do not forget to control correct position by key (notch on one end of the socket).

Then capacitors, a diode, a tweeter and a connector for flashing the microcontroller. Here the soldering of the diode requires control, since it doesn’t care which side it is on!

It came down to transistors, quartz, a power connector and a battery socket. We check that the transistors are installed correctly, this is also important! Fortunately, this is all marked both on the diagram and on the board itself.

Everything, all the elements on this side are in place, all that remains is to solder in the digital segments. We put them in their places, don’t forget to turn one point up! And it also disappeared in one go.

That's it, the watch is assembled, drum roll, the moment of truth has come...
Connect to the power source... Hurray! It's working!

All that remains is to assemble the body. There are no instructions for this matter, we collect it using the selection method.

The clock is assembled and configured.
A couple of photos of the interior.

Setup instructions

Purpose of buttons and indicators
- the first two indicators are hours
- two second minute indicators
- two dots between them - counting seconds
- dot after minutes - alarm indicator (on/off)
- top button - Increment, increases the value
- bottom button - Functions, setting watch functions

Initial reset and testing
- turn on the clock
- press and hold the Increment button
- press and release the Function button
After this, the time on the clock will be set to 7:59 and after a few seconds it will change to 8:00, and the alarm will go off. To stop the alarm beeping, briefly press the Increment button.

Settings
The clock is set using the Functions button. Pressing it switches the watch to one of the setting modes in next sequence:
- time setting, clock
- time setting, minutes
- setting alarm clock, clock
- alarm setting, minutes
- turn on/off alarm clock
- setting the period of hourly signals, start in hours
- setting the period of hourly signals, end in hours
- turn on/off clock signals
- return to operating mode

In each mode, you can use the Increment button to change the set value. One short press adds one to the current value. In modes where you want to enable or disable the function, it turns it on or off, respectively.

Impressions from the designer
I really liked the set! It's a pleasure to collect. I was pleased with the quality of the printed circuit board; it was very well made. All parts fit perfectly, no peeling was required. The clock started working immediately and has been ticking for several days. They shine very brightly, I placed them in the corridor.

Unfortunately, I ordered it literally a couple of days before its appearance. IN new version added a thermometer and brightness adjustment depending on the lighting.

In any case, as I said at the very beginning, this constructor is for those who want to make electronic device with your own hands. As they say, anyone can buy a ready-made device in a store, but assembling a gadget with your own hands is a completely different matter. Besides this great gift for a teenager interested in electronics. I recommend!

PS: My wife really liked the watch. She said order another one, white with brightness adjustment, and we’ll put it in the room.

I'm planning to buy +37 Add to favorites I liked the review +26 +50

These are unsightly in appearance mechanical wall clock have one significant advantage over conventional watches: they have a power reserve of up to four days, when, like a regular watch, the power reserve is 1-2 days. A large power reserve was the main task in the development of these watches, in solving which it was necessary to simultaneously provide technology for mass production, and ensure minimal friction losses in the gears, and not particularly overload the weight. The result is a product that we present to your consideration. Name it assembled watch model It is possible conditionally, because This is no longer a model, but a full-fledged working mechanism. Active wooden mechanism hours assembled from already laser-cut gears included in the kit, which are mounted on wooden axles and on bearings. The clock mechanism of these bearings uses as many as 8 pieces, and the ninth is in the weight, which ensures easy and reliable movement. In these wooden clock Graham descent, weight drive and wheel plant were used. And although the watch uses about 150 parts (of which about one and a half dozen gears), to assemble these wooden clock All you need is glue (such as PVA and cyanoacrylate), a sharp knife and a file. The design turned out to be interesting!
The clock mechanism is completed open, without body.
The clock is driven by a hanging weight, into which you will need to fill 1.5 or 3 kg of weight (we recommend using 8 or 8.5 mm lead buckshot as a filler). The design of the watch is designed for two options for using the weight: full-fledged, when one winding of the weight is enough to four days, and a light mode, when the weight of the weight can be reduced, but you have to wind the watch once every two days. As in everyone mechanical watch of a similar design, the accuracy of the stroke is regulated by the position of the pendulum lens. A well-tuned watch will provide you with an accuracy of 1-2 minutes per day.
For increased durability wooden clock It is advisable to cover their parts with two or three layers Danish oil. Additionally, the oil will give your wall clock a nice, professional look.
