The Unified State Exam is a federal knowledge testing system, on the basis of which a decision is made on whether a graduate is enrolled in a particular university. Another change is the introduction of a third compulsory subject. Let us remind you that today schoolchildren are required to take mathematics and the Russian language; students have the right to choose the remaining subjects independently. History is intended to complement the “main pair,” although today the third compulsory subject has not yet been fully determined. Reaching the threshold for the Unified State Exam 2017 means showing a fairly low level of knowledge. Teachers at higher educational institutions assess the general level of education of schoolchildren as quite low, complaining about the insufficient aspirations of yesterday's students to become professionals.
The Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science has summed up the preliminary results of the Unified State Exam in the Russian language, which was held during the main exam period on June 9.Almost 617 thousand people took part in the exam. The average score on the Unified State Exam in Russian in 2017 is comparable to last year’s result.
The minimum threshold for obtaining a certificate of 24 points was not overcome by 0.5% of exam participants (in 2016 their number was 1%).
“This year the trend towards improving results in compulsory subjects continues. The share of graduates who were left without certificates decreased by almost 1.5 times, and this does not even take into account the results of upcoming retakes. These results indicate the success of the “I will pass the Unified State Exam” project and are the result of serious targeted work that was carried out with lagging schoolchildren in regions and municipalities, where the Unified State Exam results of previous years revealed serious problems with the level of school education,” said Sergei Kravtsov, head of Rosobrnadzor.
The minimum threshold of 36 points, below which universities cannot set a passing Unified State Examination score in the Russian language for applicants, was not overcome by 1.6% of participants. In 2016, the number of Unified State Examination participants in the Russian language who did not pass this threshold was 2.5%.

Moreover, each university can set its own threshold scores. The more prestigious the establishment, the higher the requirements. Thus, the average score for admission to a highly competitive university is 70 points for each subject. During the main period, about 318 thousand participants took the Unified State Exam in Social Studies, the Unified State Exam in Physics - more than 155 thousand participants, the Unified State Exam in Literature - more than 41 thousand participants. Average scores in all three subjects in 2017 are comparable to last year.
The number of Unified State Exam participants who failed to overcome the established minimum threshold in subjects has decreased: in social studies to 13.8% from 17.5% last year, in physics - to 3.8% from 6.1%, in literature - to 2 .9% from 4.4% a year earlier.
“The average scores are comparable to last year’s results, this indicates the stability of the exam and the objectivity of the assessment. It is important that the number of those who fail to overcome the minimum thresholds decreases. This happens largely due to competent work with the results of the Unified State Examination, when they are analyzed and used in the work of institutes for advanced training of teachers. In a number of regions, the project “I will pass the Unified State Exam” has produced very serious results,” noted the head of Rosobrnadzor, Sergei Kravtsov.
Thanks to the use of technology for scanning participants' work at examination points, the Unified State Examination results in social studies, literature and physics were processed ahead of the deadlines established by the schedule for issuing results.
