Modem tp link. Correct configuration of the Rostelecom modem: ADSL, DSL, D-Lnik, TP-Link

Here we will describe how to configure the TP-Link TD-W961ND ver.3.3 modem. In my case, the modem firmware was in Russian, and in English language, but this does not change the essence. Maybe later I’ll post instructions for setting up this modem with firmware in English.

The modem looks like this.

Well, let's start setting up the router. To do this, you need to go to the router interface. Generally on back side The router has a sticker with the router address and login password for logging into the web interface.

After you go to the router settings, this menu will open.

Select Internet settings -> Internet, then the best option will delete unnecessary PVC rules, there are 0-7 of them, you can, of course, not delete them, but simply change the VPI and VCI in the first pcv0 to those that are used in your region to configure the Internet. You can find them out from your provider by calling him or at. If you live in the Chelyabinsk region, then VPI - 8 VCI -35 is for the Internet, for IPTV 0-34, 0-35, 1-51. The first value is written up and the second down. Further down the slide, write any service name, Username is the login Password is the password that was provided to you by the provider during installation. If you have lost them, then you will have a long process to recover your login password. Encapsulation We expose PPPoE LLC. Obtaining an IP address is dynamic. And then the save button in the English version save.

The next slide is for wi-fi lovers

If the network was open, you can close it by setting the authentication type to WPA2-PSK; it happens that not all laptops recognize this authentication; for such, it is better to choose WPA-PSK. Next, we write the key used in the line or leave it as it is, simply remembering it or writing it down on a piece of paper, or in a text file and saving it in a safe place. Save button.

If you select bridge mode instead of PPPoE on the first slide where the Internet settings were written. Then you will need to create a connection on a computer running Windows OS, but in this mode, the Internet will only work on the computer where this connection will be. You can find out how to create a connection

Instructions for setting up megaline for the TP-LINK TD-W8951ND modem as a router / router. Before starting the installation, reset your settings just in case. There is a “Reset” button on the back panel; press and hold it for 5-7 seconds. When resetting, all indicators should light up for a moment and then go off. Let's start setting up, if you have the installation disk in your hands, put it away, we won't need it. The setup will be done via the WEB interface; this setup does not require installing drivers or other software on your computer. All you need is a browser, any browser will do for us ( Internet Explorer, Opera or Mozilla Firefox). For your Web browser to load the Web pages used to configure your router, it must be connected to your computer using network cable. Regarding settings network connection The default settings are sufficient. If you have changed network settings before, check that they are set automatically. In the properties of the TCP/IP protocol, set the IP address and DNS server addresses to receive automatically.

Let's start setting up the modem. In the address bar of the browser, enter the modem address: 192.168.1.1, after which a window for entering Login and Password will appear to access the device settings. By default, the word admin is used as the login and password (all letters are in lowercase).

We will not use a setup wizard, but will configure the modem correctly. Having entered the Web interface, first of all, go to the “Interface Setup” tab and check the list of ATM interfaces “ATM VCs List” by clicking the “PVCs Summary” button. If your modem has factory settings, then there are 7 rules in the list of ATM interfaces (PVC0, PVC1, PVC2, PVC3, PVC4, PVC5, PVC6).

Our task is to delete rules that we don’t need; to do this, we select ATM interfaces one by one, starting with PVC6 and delete them using the “Delete” button, as shown in the figure. We leave PVC0 for setting up the connection to megaline.

Let's start setting up the Internet; to do this, select PVC0 in ATM Virtual Circuit and configure everything in it as in the figure. VPI = 0; VCI = 40; Encapsulation type PPPoA/PPPoE; Enter the login and password issued by the provider. We leave all other parameters at default. We save our settings and in a couple of minutes you are online!
If you have forgotten your password, or cannot connect with the credentials that you have (Login / Password), you can use the “megaline” guest login. Enter the word “megaline” in the Username field, and also “megaline” in the Password field (all Latin letters are lowercase, and the VPI / VCI values can be any). As a guest user, you will not be able to access the Internet, but you will be able to access Personal Area and change your internet password.

After the above steps, the window for editing ATM interfaces “ATM VCs List” should contain only one rule and look like in the figure.

Safety

Be sure to change the default password "admin" to access the Web interface. Go to the Administration page in the Maintenance tab and set your password.

By default, access to the Web interface is possible both from the local network and from an external network (from the Internet). You can block access to settings from outside on the Access Control Setup page by creating an appropriate rule. IN in this example A rule is activated that allows access to Web applications only from the local LAN.

Setting up wifi

After turning on the device, in the list of available wireless connections you can find a network similar to TP-Link_XXXXXX, with free access by default. To restrict access to connect via wireless network, go to the Interface Setup > Wireless tab where we are interested in the following settings items: Access Point (Enable / disable access point). SSID (network identifier), for this model the default SSID is TP-LINK_E2C8D6, but you can set your own identifier. Broadcast SSID (network identifier broadcast), if this parameter is set to No, then you can connect to the network only if you know its SSID (hide the network name if you want to enhance security). Use QSS (Quick Secure Setup). By activating QSS, you can connect to a secure wireless network with one click of a button on the router, or using the 8-digit PIN code of the transmitter. In this example, QSS is disabled. Authentication Type, select WPA2-PSK if you want to ensure the maximum level of security (some devices do not support this algorithm, if you have problems connecting any devices, try another encryption type such as WPA-PSK or WEP). Pre-Shared Key (Security key when connecting to the network). The key must be at least 8 characters long.

Rostelecom on Russian market services in the field of communications is one of the leading providers. It is not surprising that many users prefer its services. On top of that, the company, along with the tariff package, also provides the basic equipment necessary to connect to the Internet. But many people try to set access parameters on their own, which sometimes causes some difficulties. Meanwhile, if you figure it out, there shouldn’t be any special difficulties. Next, we propose to consider setting up a Rostelecom modem of any type. This instruction will be useful not only for the equipment supplied directly by the company, but also for any other similar models.

Modem market overview

Before setting up the Rostelecom modem is considered directly, it is necessary to dwell on the equipment that will be used to organize an Internet connection at home or in the office.

What can you use at the moment? Among the most popular options, there are several main groups of devices:

  • modems-routers (DSL/ADSL);
  • Ethernet modems;
  • USB modems;
  • 3G modems.

The first group is the most popular and is suitable for installation at home or in offices. The approximate cost of the simplest model is about 800 rubles, but models of a higher rank will cost about 1,500 rubles.

USB routers have not gained much popularity, although they are quite cheap. Their the main problem The problem is that very often there are situations with “gathering” of drivers. 3G devices are mainly used when moving around the city with a laptop.

Which model should you prefer?

Which of all this to choose for installing at home? I think the best option It will still be possible to use modems that combine the capabilities of a router (for access via Wi-Fi) of the DSL or ADSL type.

Among the most commonly used devices are D-Link, TP-Link, Intercross, Zyxel, etc. The settings of some of them will be discussed below.

General rules for connecting ADSL modems

As follows from the basic understanding of ADSL technology itself, a modem uses a regular telephone line to provide access to the Internet.

When connecting a modem to it, the best option is to install a special one, which allows you to simultaneously access the Internet and make phone calls. In other words, the telephone line is not blocked, unlike a direct connection.

Connecting all devices follows the sequential diagram: computer - modem - splitter - telephone line. Actually, even a child can figure this out, especially since the splitter has two sockets for different cables, so it’s simply impossible to confuse something.

Driver installation issues

After the entire circuit is assembled and the power supply is connected, you need to install a special control software, called drivers (so that the operating system installed on the computer can initialize the device, and it, in turn, works without failures).

Standard models, as a rule, are recognized automatically by the system, and installing drivers does not raise any questions. If something goes wrong, you can always use the special disk that should come with the modem. If you did not purchase the modem from the provider or if there is no disk, you can download the necessary drivers directly on the official website.

When the entire procedure is completed and the device becomes fully operational, the Rostelecom modem should be directly configured. The first step is to access the web interface of the device itself.

Enabling and accessing the web interface

As a rule, for all devices, the combination 192.168.1.1 is entered in the address bar of any web browser installed on the computer. Setting up a Rostelecom modem in the first stages involves setting the correct parameters for accessing the Internet. If Wi-Fi is supported, you will then need to install these options.

The login and password that will be requested when attempting to access is admin. If for some reason the modem does not accept the entered data, you must reset all parameters by pressing the Reset button on the back of the modem and re-enter the information.

To configure any modem in the simplest case, if manual intervention is not required, you can use the disk supplied with the device, which contains a specialized utility in the form of a kind of “Hardware Configuration Wizard”. After it starts, you just need to follow the instructions of the installer.

Setting up a Rostelecom DSL modem or ADSL device

But let’s assume that the user does not have the disk at his disposal (it got lost, became unusable). What to do in this case? There is no need to despair, since setting up any type of equipment is quite simple.

So, for Rostelecom the setting D-Link modem(just taking this as an example) starts with setting the connection type. It is advisable to set the value of this parameter to PPPoE and not use a “bridge” scheme, which can block access to the Network when the main terminal is turned off.

Next, you should manually enter the VPI and VCI parameters, which must correspond to the selected region of the user’s location (for Moscow these are values 0 and 35). These parameters must be included in the contract, but they can be found in the service technical support, even just by calling (although they are almost always installed automatically).

Next, you need to enter the registered user name (PPP), specify the login, enter and confirm the password, select the name of the service, check the Keep Alive checkbox and specify the values of the LCP interval and LCP failure options (15 and 2, respectively).

Finally, at the very bottom you need to check the IGMP box and save the changes made. After exiting the modem interface, you can use the Internet even without rebooting operating system, but with the obligatory reboot of the modem (just click on the corresponding button).

Setting up a TP-Link Rostelecom modem

With devices of this series the situation is much simpler. The fact is that the devices themselves already have, so to speak, a built-in utility called Quick Start.

In fact, setting up the Rostelecom TP-Link modem comes down to just selecting the connection mode (PPPoE), setting the time zone and entering a login and password. Basically, why not the same “Setup Wizard”?

Nuances of setting Intercross parameters

The settings of the Intercross (Rostelecom) modem are somewhat different from what was described above.

When entering the web interface, you first need to select to launch the “Wizard”, leave the value of the VCI parameter, set by default at 35, unchanged, and enter the value 8 for the VPI parameter.

Next, the connection type is set to PPPoE, and the points for automatically obtaining an address (Obtain an IP address automatically) and NAT availability (Enable NAT) are also noted. The address field is left blank. After this, the username and password are entered.

In the following steps, you don’t have to change anything, and after viewing the information, in the final step you just need to save the settings.

Wi-Fi options

Finally, let's see what setting up a Rostelecom WiFi modem is like. In fact, such a modem can be used as a regular router for distributing a wireless signal.

There is nothing particularly complicated here either. Setting up a Rostelecom modem in in this case involves entering the following values and parameters:

  • Authentication Type - WPAPSK.
  • Encryption - AES.
  • SSID - arbitrary connection name.
  • Pre-shared Key - your own password for accessing the Wi-Fi connection.

After completing all the settings, you need to go to the Maintenance tab and use the browse button to select the romfile.cfg file with automatic add-in parameters. At this point, the setup can be considered complete.

Brief summary

As a summary, it remains to be said that setting up a Rostelecom modem of any known type is not particularly difficult. The main thing is to choose correct parameters which were presented in the material above.

As for the choice of equipment, ADSL devices, when using a connection from the Rostelecom provider, are the best option compared to the same Ethernet or USB devices, which are quite limited in their capabilities.

The settings of 3G modems were not considered, since, after all, users at home or in the office give the main preference to modems that combine the functions of routers with wireless communications. Well, in terms of settings, if I would recommend something very simple, it would be best to use the “Wizard” disk so as not to have to deal with unnecessary things. But if this is not possible, you can safely use the instructions given above.

In order to get to the router’s web interface, you need to open your Internet browser and type 192. 168.1.1 in the address bar, Username - admin , Password - admin(provided that the router has factory settings and its IP has not changed).

Setting up a PPPoE connection

The main menu of the modem will open on the section Status; . Go to the section Interface Setup; .

In the window that opens, select a subsection Internet; . We set the settings as shown in the screenshot: - Virtual Circuit value for home networks: PVC0.

  • Status is marked Activated;
  • VPI and VCI values for home networks: VPI = 2, VCI = 35; ( !!!Check these values with your provider!!!)
  • ATM QoS select UBR;
  • ISP mark Dynamic IP Address;
  • Encapsulation select 1483 Bridged IP LLC;
  • Bridge Interface is marked Deactivated;
  • NAT select Enable;
  • Default Route check Yes;
  • TCP MTU Option is left at 1500;
  • for Dynamic Route: RIP2-B, select None for Direction;
  • Multicast select Disabled;
  • MAC Spoofing is marked Disabled. After all parameters have been entered, press the SAVE button;

Setting up Wi-Fi on the router

After turning on the device, in the list of available wireless connections you will be able to find a network similar to TP-Link_XXXXXX, with free access by default. To restrict access to a wireless network connection, go to the tab Interface Setup > Wireless where we are interested in the following settings items: Access Point(Enable/disable access point). SSID(network identifier), for this model the default SSID is TP-LINK_E2C8D6, but you can set your own identifier. Broadcast SSID(network identifier broadcast), if this parameter is set to No, then you can connect to the network only if you know its SSID (hide the network name if you want to enhance security). Use QSS(Quick Secure Setup - Quick security setup). By activating QSS, you can connect to a secure wireless network with one click of a button on the router, or using the 8-digit PIN code of the transmitter. In this example, QSS is disabled. Authentication Type(encryption type), select WPA2-PSK if you want to ensure the maximum level of security (some devices do not support this algorithm, if you have problems connecting any devices, try another type of encryption such as WPA-PSK or WEP). Pre-Shared Key(Security key when connecting to the network). The key must be at least 8 characters long.

Safety

Be sure to change the default password "admin" to access the Web interface. Go to the page Administration in the tab Maintenance and set your password.

By default, access to the Web interface is possible both from the local network and from an external network (from the Internet). You can block access to settings from outside on the page Access Control Setup, by creating an appropriate rule. In this example, a rule is activated that allows access to applications only from the local network LAN.

TP-LINK TD-W8951ND is universal device to create a local home network and connections to the Internet. It is an ADSL modem that distributes the Internet via LAN cables or Wi-Fi. Here are its main characteristics:

  • ADSL2+ modem providing high-speed Internet from the provider (of course, in accordance with the capabilities of the telephone network);

Functional router for execution various tasks on the World Wide Web

  • four 100 Mbps LAN ports for connection stationary devices, equipped with network cards;
  • N standard wireless access point that distributes the Internet to mobile devices with a maximum speed of up to 150 Mbit/s;
  • setting up the binding of virtual channels allocated for the operation of individual resource-intensive applications (games, IPTV) to certain ports in order to avoid quality losses;
  • firewalls to protect against attacks from the external network.

How to configure a router to work on the World Wide Web

Rostelecom remains the largest provider providing services using ADSL technology, so using its example we will show how to configure the TP-LINK TD-W8951ND modem.

The settings are performed in this order:

  1. We connect the modem to the computer via a LAN port and log into the web interface at 192.168.1.1 under the name admin and with the same password (it is better to change the specified password the first time you log in - for the sake of security for further work. This is done in the “Maintenance” menu , item “Administration”).

  1. Then you can choose quick setup(“Quick Start” menu) or configure the connection manually (“Interface Setup” menu). In both cases, you choose a PPPoE connection, because it is this technology that is mainly used by Rostelecom. You receive a name and password for establishing a connection, as well as VPI and VCI parameters from the provider when concluding an agreement.

  1. Wi-Fi setup is done in the same menu, but on the “Wireless” tab. Activate the access point, select a name and encryption type for it, and assign a password.

  1. The next step is setting up a DHCP server. This is necessary so that you do not have to manually assign IP addresses to devices that will work on your network. In this same menu, but on the “LAN” tab, you need to check “Enabled”.

  1. Here you can also configure filtering by MAC addresses - this limits the access of certain gadgets to your network. If you have such a need, write in the appropriate fields the MAC addresses of the devices that will be subject to the ban.

Updating the firmware, or firmware, makes sense if the linker has already released new version for your device model. We recommend checking this before starting setup.

To flash the modem, first download the new version from HDD computer. Then go to the management interface, go to the “Maintenance” menu, then select “Firmware Update”. In the upper field, use the “Browse” button to select the path to the saved *.bin file and click the “Update” button. The process will last 3–5 minutes, after which the router will reboot and display an authorization window. This will mean that the firmware was successfully installed.

During the update, do not restart the device manually, do not disconnect it from the electronic computer or from the mains - this may irreversibly damage the firmware.

Conclusion

ADSL router and modem TD-W8951ND from TP-LINK are universal routers for those who want to create a high-speed local network based on an ADSL connection. Its setup is almost no different from similar models, and its wide functionality satisfies even expert users who take into account all the nuances of creating a network.
