Currently, do-it-yourself clock decoupage has gained enormous popularity! This is not surprising: in the age of stress, sometimes you want to do something for the soul, and if it still has a functional and aesthetic purpose, then this hobby is simply doomed to success!
If earlier it was difficult to get decoupage materials and templates, now they are available in abundance in any bookstore or department for creativity. In them, you can easily purchase stencils, dials, blanks, hands, accessories or other attributes for decoupage watches. Therefore, this newfangled hobby is an acceptable option for beginners.
Consider the technique of decoupage watches with your own hands in stages.
Advice! Torn edges are easier to mask, so it's better not to cut out the image, but simply tear it off the paper with your hands.
You can glue the picture on the template either with PVA glue diluted with water, or with special decoupage glue. The main thing here is to act carefully, avoiding wrinkles in the picture. After that, the workpiece of the future clock should be dried and covered with acrylic varnish, after which the workpiece should be dried again. Repeat this pattern three times.
This technique is described in more detail in the video at the end of the text.
Before proceeding directly to the decoupage of watches with your own hands, you should decide on the style of the future masterpiece. Now the most popular decoupage options are:
First you need to choose the room in which you plan to hang your future masterpiece. For example, if this is a kitchen, then some kind of romantic sketch, or a Hollywood-style clock, will look out of place in it. On the contrary, Provence or vintage style clocks will fit perfectly into the interior of most kitchens.
Perhaps the Provence style is one of the most common and understandable. If the directions of Provence and vintage are somewhat reminiscent of each other, then the Hollywood style is fundamentally different from them. So, it is characterized by the following nuances:
All styles are suitable for beginners. These options can be found by watching the video at the end of the text.
The finished dial can be freely bought in the store, but it is much more interesting to make it yourself. So, the numbers on the clock can be made almost from the first objects that caught your eye. It all depends on your imagination and, of course, on the style of decoupage watches.
Let's say you chose the Provence style. Then for the dial it would be appropriate to use corks from wine bottles, dried lavender branches, soap in the form of small hearts. In addition, it is not necessary that there are numbers on the dial: it is enough just to mark the divisions.
The idea for the clock on the Pink Floyd record.
It is also convenient to make a watch on a plate because the center of the dial for the hands is precisely marked. However, it should be remembered that the round printed label in the center is difficult to "overlap" if it is white. It would be more practical to take a plate with a red sticker for the base.
If decoupage of ordinary wall clocks may seem boring, then we have saved up another original option for you - decoupage of clocks on a vinyl record. The technique of such decoupage is not much different from that described above, but it has its own characteristics:
Attention! You need to use special varnish and glue for decoupage.
Advice! Apply the paint with a dishwashing sponge.

Hours go by day by day.
Hours run after century...
- Where are you in a hurry, Clock? -
A man once asked.
The clock was amazing.
Thought.
Stopped.
The history of the invention and development of watches.
The first primitive concepts for measuring time (day, morning, day, noon, evening, night) were subconsciously suggested to ancient people by the regular change of seasons, the change of day and night, the movement of the Sun and Moon across the firmament.
The history of clocks is very interesting and informative. It was important for a person to know the exact time in order to optimally plan his actions, so progressively solar, water, mechanical clocks were invented. The result at the moment are those complex mechanisms that can be seen in modern stores.
The origin of the name of the word "clock".
The word "clock" appeared in everyday life in the XIV century, its basis was the Latin "clocca", meaning bell. And before that, the first experiments in determining the time were associated with the observation of the movements of the sun across the sky. In 3500 BC, the first sundial began to be used. The principle of their work was to observe the shadow formed by sunlight, since the position and length of the shadow change at different intervals.
In Greece, however, they came to the conclusion that it was necessary to divide the year into twelve months of thirty days each. Subsequently, the inhabitants of ancient Babylon and Egypt divided the day into hours, minutes, seconds, which played an important role in the development of watchmaking.
Jost Burgey made the first clock in 1577 using the minute hand. This product also had a minute hand, the oscillations of the pendulum turned the cogwheel, which, in turn, changed the position of the hands on the dial. The dial was graduated at 12 o'clock, so the hand went around twice in a day.
At present, humanity has complex, reliable and high-precision watch movements created with the latest scientific research and designed in a wide variety of styles.
An unusual clock, ideally suited in style to the interior of the room, is always a good element of decor. Not only in terms of aesthetics, but also in terms of functionality. Here are some original clocks you can make with your own hands.
A watch is a necessary, useful and, in general, everyday thing. Few people think about their design, because the main thing is that they show the time correctly.
But try to make a wall clock with your own hands - and you will notice that the atmosphere in this room has subtly changed.
Of course, this is not about assembling and adjusting the clockwork yourself - it should be used ready-made, bought in a store or removed from an old watch. But you can even fantasize about the design of the dial.
Step by step workflow:
1. Two sheets of A4 cardboard are glued onto an A3 sheet.
Hooray! I'm officially a shoemaker with boots. I’ve seen enough of how the participants of our master class in KhVOE made wall clocks, and now (less than half a year has passed) we have a tropical timekeeper in our kitchen.
At the beginning of May, a master class was held in our KhVOE, where we made wall clocks with our own hands. The idea of the workshop came up in January, and it was a pleasure to implement it. Here, by the way, the clock broke in the kitchen, which I had long ceased to like. She combined the pleasant with the useful. Firstly, I made a new device for determining the time, secondly, an article for a blog, and thirdly, I added my favorite tropical decor this summer.
And so it is clear that made with your own hands, it is with soul and from the heart. Perhaps the purchased ones will be of better quality and with a guarantee, but there are more advantages to making a wall clock with your own hands:
Thinking about the panel under the dial, it is worth remembering that the clock can be not only round, but also triangular, square, even in the shape of a flower.
There are a lot of ways to decorate a wall clock, it all depends on your desire to create and bother.
The time taken is one and a half hours. We will need:
The mechanism can be ordered in the online store or used left over from an old watch. There are a couple of points to pay attention to:
For example, in my mechanism, the stem height is only 8 mm, which means that the thickness of the plywood blank should not exceed 4 mm, otherwise there will not be enough space to tighten the nut. The best overall stem height is 16mm and the thread height is 9mm. This mechanism is suitable for most wooden blanks.
If there are volumetric details on the dial, you need to make sure that the arrows will not cling to them.
1. Before you start making a wall clock with your own hands, you need to decide where the number 12 will be. To do this, turn the panel over, insert the clock mechanism, mark the middle of the top of the mechanism with a pencil (it will coincide with the middle of the loop) and draw a perpendicular line. It is from here that the countdown will begin and the distance between the numbers will be marked (if they are planned).
2. We take a sheet of paper, trace the outline of the dial on it and draw the decor. This is useful for seeing if the composition looks harmonious before it's too late to change something. I drew the outlines of the leaves on paper, then cut them out and transferred them to the plywood blank with a pencil.
3. We color the blank in accordance with the decor. I used white construction acrylic, art acrylic and colored paste for tinting.
4. When the paint dries, fasten the clockwork. It can have many details that can be used or ignored depending on the thickness of the dial. Usually, an assembly diagram is attached to the clock mechanism, which I advise you to follow. We string a rubber backing onto the stem and apply it to the dial from the reverse side. The top (middle of the loop) should match the pencil mark (see point 1).
5. Turn the workpiece over, put a washer on the rod and tighten the nut. Here we need pliers so that we can twist it tighter.
6. We string the arrows. By the way, I repainted the arrows from white to black. There are also two points here. Firstly, there may be a protective film on the hands that needs to be removed. Secondly, the black art acrylic did not fit the metal very well, so I had to first prime the arrows with building white acrylic, and then apply black after drying.
Before stringing, you need to make sure that all the arrows are straight. First we string the hour, then the minute. Second is dressed last. They are strung to a slight click. It is important not to overdo it and not be too zealous so as not to break the delicate fasteners. The hands must be strictly parallel to each other and not touch, otherwise the watch simply will not work.
7. We set all the hands to 12 o'clock according to the mark, insert the battery and set the correct time using a special wheel, which can be found on the mechanism on the reverse side.
A couple of evenings, an hour and a half - and I gladly launched my time. Take care of your time, spend it with those who give you joy!
Best,
You do not need to know the device of the clockwork at all in order to make original DIY wall clock. In any home there are broken clocks and inexpensive Chinese-made alarm clocks. From all this wealth, you can create original and useful decorations for the interior with your own hands.
WHY IS A WALL CLOCK SO INTERESTING?
Clocks are a kind of conductors of a mysterious invisible, but felt by all, energy called Time. Therefore, in the human mind, the clock also carries a charge of something mystical. Watches have an interesting, inexplicable property to speed up or slow down as they please. People will always be indifferent to the clock and to the Time personified by them.
Check out these cool design ideas. The photo shows that creating an original wall clock with your own hands is quite within the power of a simple housewife. As a design solution, such a handmade clock will be the brightest and most attractive place in your interior!
Here we should proceed from the fact that anything can be a dial. The main thing is that such watches should be beautiful and, like design objects, they must carry some idea.
A creative thought that has received a direction is very fruitful. Once you feel like a designer, it's forever. And such a fertile direction as the creation of original wall clocks with your own hands is simply inexhaustible.
Here is a photo of a dial made from the cover of a large wooden reel, on which cables were previously wound. Here the designer saw exactly the interesting texture of the lid as a circle, not paying attention to the main purpose of the item. Stenciled inscriptions and a metal overlay on the opening of the coil perfectly emphasize the idea of a dial made of wooden planks.
Clocks made from halves of a globe require quite a lot of space, but look amazing. Such watch-compositions are suitable for and will give the spirit of travel. By the way, such watches can be well suited for a travel agency.

A clock from a tin can is, of course, for the kitchen. The following photos clearly show that even such an abstract thing as a clock spring can be a decor item.
A very interesting decision is to make the dial from a saw cut of a tree, and the hands from twigs.
Figures cut from old gramophone records can be distinguished as a separate type of creativity. They themselves are very creative and have the right to life. But in combination with the idea of time indicators, it's just super!
People very often, getting used to a certain environment, do not dare to make even the slightest change in it. And this staticness is so contrary to the creative spirit that sits in each of us. Try to change this static, start with the original DIY wall clock.
Stylish wall or table clocks can drastically affect the mood in the interior, bring some shade of your own into it. And wrist chronometers can change the image of a person. However, in search of a suitable option, you can spend a lot of time and still not find the right one. In today's article, we bring to your attention ideas on how to make a watch yourself, a master class describes in detail various techniques for making and decorating watches.
From the plate, using the decoupage technique, you can make very beautiful chronometers that can be a gift for loved ones, especially those who are constantly late.
1. We find an unnecessary vinyl record, remove the label. It is better to choose one so that the middle is white - it is almost impossible to paint red with white acrylic.
2. We purchase a clockwork or take it out of an unnecessary watch.
3. We prime the plate from the can. You can simply paint the surface with acrylic using a sponge, but further work will be more convenient if primed with an aerosol. We dry.
4. Paint the background with a sponge. We chose slightly golden acrylic. Waiting for drying again.
6. Glue rice paper on top. We work with it in the same way as with a regular decoupage napkin.
7. We apply at least 3 layers of varnish.
8. We make marking drawings and paste the numbers of a suitable size.
9. We cut the hole sealed in the process of work again; turning the scissors a couple of times, we increase the hole for the clock mechanism to the desired size.
10. Insert the mechanism, put on the arrows.
11. If there is no loop included with the mechanism, then you can glue it on the Moment glue.
12. Also, if necessary, the arrows can be painted in a contrasting color.
13. Insert the battery.
So we learned how to make a wall clock with our own hands, the master class also revealed to us the features of working in the decoupage technique.
We continue to use decoupage to decorate watches, but another decoration option is also applicable. In this case, we will make a clock from coffee beans with our own hands, and the master class below is devoted to this particular topic.
Materials:
1. We prime the surface of the workpiece.
2. We paint one side with white paint, the other with brown.
3. On a dry surface, we spread PVA glue diluted in a ratio of 1: 2. Wet the napkin and glue it on top. Cover again with glue. We apply a wet stationery file and roll it on top with a roller, getting rid of air bubbles. Leave until completely dry. Then varnished.
4. With a contour, draw the boundaries of filling with coffee beans.
5. After 10-20 minutes, we can start decorating with grains. To do this, we cover a small area with stained glass paint and carefully place coffee on it in random order, moving a toothpick towards each other.
6. After an hour, the paint will dry, and everything will hold.
7. The dial can be made from improvised means, the same coffee beans, you can draw numbers using a contour. With the same contour, you can draw additional details: at least butterflies, if you think they are appropriate.
8. It remains to insert the clockwork, and the battery into it.
Such a clock can be hung in the kitchen: if you have not varnished the grains, they will give aroma for a long time.
In this collection you will find other options for making watches with your own hands.
