Correct connection of the thermostat. Connecting a heated floor to a thermostat: instructions on electrical work. Video example of installation work

So I became the proud owner gas boiler, which I just have to connect to the thermostat. Of course, I could call a specialist and pay for his work, but this is not in my rules; I decided to connect the room thermostat to the gas boiler with my own hands. The article describes several ways to do this.

Installers advise installing thermostats in living rooms. Their installation in the kitchen, hallway or boiler room leads to system disorientation and false alarms. It is recommended to choose the coolest room or where there is greatest number of people.

No heat sources - radiators or heaters - should be located near the thermostat. The device should not be exposed to direct sunlight. It is necessary to avoid placing the thermostat in a draft. It is also undesirable to be adjacent to electrical appliances emitting thermal noise.

The boiler is turned on and off by a special relay. The thermostat is connected using a terminal on the boiler at a specified location or via a thermostat cable. The programmer requires batteries to operate.

Before connecting the room thermostat, you need to read the instructions, which are located in the technical data sheet of the device. Usually the passport has a separate section dedicated to connecting the thermostat.

Temperature sensor and thermostat for gas boiler Baxi MAIN Four 240 F

with your own hands

The apartment has an autonomous gas boiler Baxi MAIN Four 240 F, which in itself is not bad, but also has a good reserve for improvement.

The main problem is that the boiler turns on in heating mode every few minutes, whether it is necessary or not, and heats the water in the radiators to the set temperature, whether it is too much or not. In other words, very often it works in vain. The first problem is solved room thermostat, the second is an outdoor temperature sensor. And I will tell you how to kill two birds with one stone.

We will need a thermostat, a wire, and straight hands.

We turn off the boiler with the button and turn off the power to the boiler.

We unscrew the two screws securing the front cover of the boiler from the bottom, remove it “towards you - upwards”, unscrew the screw fixing the control panel and turn it, unscrew the screw of the terminal box (I removed the entire back cover, it’s more convenient) and screw in our wires

We turn on the power to the boiler - in OFF mode the display now shows the outside air temperature.

We turn on the boiler - in operating mode, when adjusting the temperature of the battery, the display shows the temperature curve - you need to select it so that the temperature of the batteries matches the temperature outside. This is done empirically and this is exactly what I have been doing for the second day.

The method, as I understand it, is applicable to many similar boilers.

The most crucial moment in installing a heated floor is connecting heated floors to the thermostat. This electrical appliance maintains constant comfortable temperature in a residential area, consuming a minimum amount of electricity.

Peculiarities

The thermostat is designed to stabilize temperature indicators, automatically connect and turn off heating devices. The electrical appliance takes readings from the temperature sensor and automatically turns off the electrical power when it reaches required temperature. Even at this time, the appliance is active and continues to automatically regulate the temperature. When the temperature drops, the regulator resumes its activity.

Types and principles of operation

Thermostats of different heating mechanisms have different automatic control mechanisms.

For water floors:

  1. Two way valve.
  2. Three-way valve.

The peculiarity of its operation is the physical limitation of the inlet of boiling water into the heating mechanism. This ensures the required volume of water at the desired temperature.

Types of thermostats:

  • Digital. The operating feature is similar to an electronic-mechanical thermostat. Distinctive feature is the ability to set temperature regime in the electric sensor. The electric mechanism is equipped with a touch panel where information is displayed.

  • Electronic-mechanical. It is a device whose operating principle is similar to the operation of an iron. Temperature regulation occurs by rotating the wheel. Turning it in one direction increases the temperature, turning it in the other direction decreases it. It is possible to determine the temperature regime only by your own intuition. The only advantage of such a thermostat is low price and ease of installation.

  • Programmable. This type of device demonstrates a smart electrical mechanism. Able to turn off and on the heating system at a given temperature. It is also possible to turn on the device in set time. All temperature modes are shown on the control panel.

Depending on the number of control channels, the thermostat is:

  • Two-zone, which operates simultaneously in two areas of the heating system.
  • Single-channel – processing of a special signal from one sensor.

By mounting method:

  • Internal (built-in).
  • External (remote, overhead).

At the moment, many varieties of heated floors with heating elements are produced, the most common among them are:

  • Resistive cable. There are two-core and single-core.

  • Cable with self-adjusting function.

  • Thermomat (represents a two-layer canvas, inside of which heating mechanisms are sealed).

  • Film (infrared). The basic basis for such heating is carbon and carbon rods.

Connection diagram

The thermostat is mounted in the wall near an outlet or switch. A mounting box for the thermostat is installed in the prepared funnel in the wall, to which the electrical wires (zero and phase) of the power supply and temperature sensor are connected. Next, the thermostat is connected.

The thermostat mechanism has side sockets to which the electrical wiring (220 V) is connected, temperature sensor and a heating element.

Knowledge of wire colors is important:

  • White – L-phase.
  • Blue – N zero.
  • The yellow-green wire is grounding.

Connection diagram:

  1. Electrical wires (voltage 220V) are connected to connectors 1 and 2. A blue wire is connected to 1, and a white wire to 2.
  2. The heating electric cable wires are routed to sockets 3 and 4: No. 3 – wire N, No. 4 – wire L.
  3. The temperature sensor wires are connected to pins 6 and 7, regardless of polarity.
  4. Functional check. To do this, connect the power supply, set the temperature on the device to a minimum and connect the system of heating elements (usually using a special handle or button). Next, they exhibit maximum temperature. The correct operation of the thermostat will be indicated by a click, which warns of an electrical short circuit.

Connection diagrams are different and may differ, so manufacturers number all electrical contacts for correct connection.

Instructions for connecting a warm water floor:

  • First, install the temperature sensor. It is recommended to install the temperature sensor close to the thermostat.
  • Assemble the servo drive in the heating floor design. This electromechanism is designed to automatically regulate the water pressure passing into the circuits.
  • Connect the existing electrical wires into a single circuit.
  • Adjust the heating elements of the mechanism.
  • Upon completion of installation, you must connect to the network and check the functionality of the entire system. For 90-120 minutes, measure temperature conditions with an ordinary thermometer in the area where the sensor is located. Index proper operation consists in completely eliminating deviations in readings.

In this case, the thermostat controls the temperature of the air, and not the heating of the coating.

Connecting the thermostat to a two-wire cable. The two-core cable system under the protective layer consists of two current-carrying wires. It is easy to install because the connection is made using a single wire, as opposed to a single-core electrical cable.

The connection diagram shows that in a two-core electrical cable 3 electrical wires are in contact: brown and blue are current-carrying, yellow-green is grounding. The phase is connected to connector 3, electrical contact 4 is connected to zero (blue), and contact 5 is grounded (green).

Connecting a single-core cable. The design of a single-core cable consists of one current-carrying electrical wire (white). The second green wire is intended for grounding the PE shield. Wires are connected to the thermostat electrical contacts No. 3 and No. 4 white, and the green one is connected to No. 5.

Connecting warm mats is almost no different from the process for cable heating.

Let's just look at the differences:

  • To install the temperature sensor, a recess is made on the surface of the mat. The structure is connected to the network using copper conductors located along the edges of the heating mats.
  • It is possible to cut the film coating along the contours. On the reverse side of the film, the electrical wires are insulated, and on the front side they are left open for connection to electrical wires. Film strips are laid parallel to each other and connected to each other.

How to connect correctly with your own hands?

To correctly connect the thermostat to a heated floor with your own hands, you need to strictly follow the recommendations installation work:

  1. Place the mounting box in the prepared pocket and connect the power cable.
  2. The temperature sensor must be inserted into the hole in the installation cup.
  3. Connect the electrical wires to turn on three way valve or heating cables.
  4. Using the instructions for the thermal device, connect the load and the temperature device.
  5. Next, the power cable is connected to the input electrical terminals of the thermostat.
  6. Power is supplied and heating is turned on. To control the heating of the floor, the temperature regime is set to 26-28 degrees. If the sensor is located in the wall, a temperature of 20-22 degrees is used.

After all installation work, it is necessary to test the systems for operation. Areas with uneven heating are disconnected from the network and tested for resistance. Detected problems are eliminated and the functioning of the heated floor system is restored. Right installed system determined when obtaining the required climate at several stages of turning on/off the heating elements.

Installation and configuration

Controlling and setting the electric floor heating thermostat is as follows:

  • When the thermostat is connected to the general network and the “0” key is pressed, the device’s power is turned on.
  • Temperature control in most models is performed using the “^” and “V” keys.
  • When the temperature is set, the Set indicator lights up.
  • The desired result of the set temperature state is indicated by the Run indicator.
  • Disconnection from the electrical supply is performed using the ON/OFF key.

Controlling the temperature of water heated floors

The most common way to connect a water heating mechanism is using a manifold. The ends of two pipes are connected to the mechanism: one to the supply comb, the second to the return comb. Each circuit receives a coolant of identical temperature. This method not very practical, because you need to determine the air temperature based on your own feelings.

To simplify work, flow meters are installed at the inlet to help straighten temperature norm. In this case, control is also performed manually. Thermostats are designed to automatically control the device, and servos play the role of an executor.

For large plot heating and an extensive heating network, it is better to install thermostats with servo drives. Servo drives are located in each perimeter on the automatic coolant supply comb. The role of the servo drive is to automatically submit an order to reduce and add the volume of coolant. Thermostats are placed in each individual room where this type of heating is available. They are interconnected with servos, which receive special control signals.

Regulators check how the temperature flooring, and climate temperature, and are also equipped with a programming function. It is necessary to control and regulate the temperature if such a floor is used as the main source of heating. Models are made that track 2 coefficients at a time. In this case, the primary information is data on the state of the airspace, and the floor temperature is represented by a secondary indicator.

The heated floor regulator functions as follows: the desired temperature can be programmed on the mechanism panel. If there is a discrepancy even by 1 degree in any direction, a signal is sent to the servomotors, according to which the flow of coolant increases or decreases. Some time later, the temperature situation returns to a normal state.

Automated control of temperature indicators greatly simplifies the control of water structures. Adjust the comb and mechanical valves manually to in this case there is no need.

Installation of a warm water floor temperature sensor. Electrical sensors are mainly located inside the thermostat.

Instructions for installing the thermostat:

  • There should be no other heating sources nearby.
  • Hit sunlight on the body is strictly prohibited.
  • The thermostat can be installed at a height of 100-150 cm from the floor covering.

Temperature meters are mainly external. This electrical mechanism is attached to the edge of a long cable. This electrical appliance must be installed in the floor, the required gap between the wall and the device is at least 50 cm. It is located at the same distance from nearby pipes with coolant. The other end is brought to the regulator and connected to the corresponding electrical terminals.

The installation of the thermal device must be carried out before pouring the screed. For further replacement, it must be placed in a corrugated sleeve. The edge of the corrugated sleeve, which is located in the screed, must be insulated. The other edge fits into the groove on the wall and rests on the thermostat box. This installation is quite labor-intensive, but it allows you to easily replace a faulty sensor.

Manufacturers

Among the most popular companies specializing in products of this kind are the following:

  • Company "Teplolux" very famous today thanks to high quality manufactured products. There is a possibility simplest installation system and manual adjustment of the mechanism. The only disadvantage of this brand is the high cost of materials.
  • If you navigate by optimal ratio prices and quality, then a great example will be the worldwide famous brand Grand Meyer.
  • Energy thermostats have gained great popularity due to their design, which has an LCD display. These electrical appliances function perfectly with various warm floors, thereby saving costs.

Electric installation work must be carried out in accordance with safety regulations. If these rules are neglected, there is a high risk of adverse consequences.

  • Electrical work is carried out only in a de-energized room. If it is possible to disconnect the required line, it is better to disconnect it from the power supply.
  • Connecting the device is only possible in an assembled structure.
  • The thermostat must be kept clean.
  • Exceeding the power and current parameters specified by the manufacturer is strictly prohibited.
  • Never repair the regulator without special skills.
  • If there is old electrical wiring, it will be safer to install a separate line for connecting the heated floor, which is specialized for automation.
  • The best option To regulate the temperature, separate thermostats will be installed in each room.

Behind last years, in our age of high technology, items with minimal energy consumption for their operation are of particular value. Such products are especially ideal for heating devices, effectively regulating their performance. One such item is a thermostat for a heater. infrared type, which will be discussed in this article.

Types and characteristics of thermostats

A thermostat is a device that allows you to record the temperature in a room at a certain time interval and at the same time adjust the device settings to the required values. For example, when the temperature reaches a certain figure, the heating forcibly ends the operation cycle. And, conversely, with its decrease, the device resumes its operation.

The design characteristics and operating principle of thermostats may be different. There are two main types of thermostats for heaters:

  • mechanical;
  • electronic.

Today, electric heated floors have become very popular. To control these room heating systems, you need a thermostat, the connection diagram of which is quite simple. Even a novice home craftsman can do this work on his own. However, it is worth understanding the operating principle of temperature sensors and their types. This will help you choose the right device to solve specific problems.

Before choosing a thermostat, you need to study what they are.

Principle of operation

Most often, temperature sensors operate cyclically, and at the same time, an electrical circuit opens and closes. As the temperature increases, the resistance of the internal thermostat sensor drops. Once reached given parameter, the device is triggered and disconnects the circuit. As the temperature decreases, the reverse process occurs - the resistance increases, and as a result, the thermostat turns on the electrical circuit.

Using a temperature sensor, you can easily control the indoor climate. You just need to set the desired temperature in the apartment, after which the device will do everything on its own. Now on the market there are infrared heated floors, which are capable of heating not only the air, but also surrounding objects. For the system to operate in automatic mode, a thermostat must be connected to it.

In this video you will learn how to connect a thermostat:

Main types

All modern thermostats work on the same principle. However, there are quite a lot of differences between them that affect the device settings, control and connection diagram of the temperature sensor.

Mechanical thermostats are characterized by ease of operation and high reliability. They are a plastic box equipped with a lever to control the room temperature. To simplify the setup process, the devices have a scale with divisions, the standard step of which is 1 degree.

If previously mechanical thermostats were often used to control electric heated floors, then they are not very well suited for working with infrared heating systems. However, if desired, they can be connected quite easily. Although many people prefer electronic devices, mechanical ones continue to be used. This is due to the simplicity of their design, as well as their long service life.

The peculiarity of electronic temperature sensors is the presence of a display to display all the information important for setting. If a mechanical thermostat does not require electricity to operate, then an electronic one must be connected to the network. The control panel, depending on the model, can be touch-sensitive or push-button. Some devices provide the ability to program the temperature for a certain period of time, for example, a week.

Advanced models can even be controlled using a smartphone if the appropriate application has been installed on it. Electronic temperature sensors have gained popularity primarily due to their ease of use. However, their cost is higher compared to mechanical devices.

To increase the service life of the electronic temperature sensor, it is not recommended to install it in drafty areas or in places where there is active exposure to direct sunlight. Thanks to a simple thermostat connection diagram, almost any home DIYer can handle this job. However, first you need to decide on the connection method:

  1. Classical.
  2. Using a magnetic starter.

Both options are worth considering in detail.

Standard scheme

One of important parameters any thermostat is a power indicator. One device can be used to control several room heating devices. The number of heating devices that can be connected to it depends on the power of the thermostat. At home, it is quite enough to use devices with a power of no more than 3 kW.

There are 2 ways to connect these sensors

Most often thermostats have four contacts- two for entry and exit. To connect the device, you need to stretch two conductors from the junction box and connect them to the input terminals. After this, the output contacts are connected to the heating system using two other wires.

If there is a need to connect two heating devices, then you need to decide on the type of connection:

  1. Consistent.
  2. Parallel.

In the first case, it is necessary to stretch two conductors from the output terminals of the thermostat to the first heater, and two more from it to the next one. When connected in parallel, four conductors should be drawn from the input contacts of the temperature sensor - two for each heating device.

Using a magnetic starter

This is the connection diagram mechanical thermostat most often used to control multiple heaters. A magnetic starter is an electromagnetic type switching device. It is intended for use in networks with high loads. There are quite a few options for connecting a thermostat via a magnetic starter, but home handyman it is enough to know only one.

At the first stage of the work, it is necessary to connect the regulator to the electrical network using two conductors, using the input terminals for this. Then the output contacts of the temperature sensor are connected to the starter, and it is already connected to the heater.

If everything was done correctly, then all that remains is to configure the regulator to the desired operating mode. Connecting the thermostat should not be difficult if you follow the instructions. However, you should not overestimate your strength, because the safety of family members depends on the quality of the connection.

In underfloor heating control systems, the role of the control unit is played by a thermostat - a device that processes information received from a temperature sensor and, in accordance with a given mode, turns the floor heating on or off.

At electrical system Underfloor heating, thermostats are required to be installed. Installing a thermostat in a water heated floor system is not necessary. But, if the floor is an additional heating measure, and the temperature of the coolant at the entrance to the circuit is above 50 degrees, installing a thermostat will solve the problem of room overheating.

Types of thermostats

Thermostats for any underfloor heating system can be:

  • programmable, working according to a pre-established, including complex program;
  • without software control.

Changing modes on non-programmable thermostats is done manually, using a rotary control (mechanical adjustment) or buttons (electronic digital).

Programmable thermostats are more expensive and more difficult to control, but they can save significant energy resources by turning off floor heating or lowering its temperature at night or during the day when heating is not needed.

Mechanical non-programmable thermostats are controlled by simply turning the knob to the specified level. Electronic digital - using buttons, touch panel or remote control. The price of non-programmable thermostats is lower due to the extremely simple logical part.

According to the installation method, thermostats are:

  • built-in - they are installed in a special recess in the wall;
  • overhead - they are attached to the wall using screws or self-tapping screws.

The choice of installation type is a matter of taste, but it does not affect functionality.

Temperature sensors

The sensors are a thermocouple made of two wires that changes the resistance of the circuit when heated. The wires are connected to the corresponding terminals of the thermostat. Sensors are:

  • remote;
  • built-in

Remote sensors are divided into floor or air temperature sensors. The first ones are installed simultaneously with the installation of heating elements directly under finishing coat, the second - in a place convenient for measuring air temperature. Built-in sensors are located right inside the thermostat. Some thermostat models have both types of sensors.

In the bathroom and kitchen it is better to install thermostats with a floor temperature sensor - the air in these rooms can be heated by the stove or hot water, the floor will remain cold.

Connecting a thermostat to electric heated floors

Electric heated floors are made using a high-resistance heating cable or infrared film. They are laid on a specially prepared base, after which the floor is screeded and the finishing coating is laid.

Thermostat connection technology:

  1. Before installing the floor, it is necessary to determine the location where the thermostat will be located and plan its connection to the electrical network. To connect the thermostat, a voltage of 220 V is required alternating current, that is, you can connect it to a regular outlet or to a separate cable through a circuit breaker.
  2. When laying the floor, choose a location for the temperature sensor. It should be located near the thermostat, on an area of the floor free from furniture.

  1. For infrared floors, the sensor is placed on the reverse side of the film and connected to the wires going to the thermostat.
  2. For cable heated floors, poured concrete screed, the sensor must be placed in a metal corrugated pipe, isolating it from concrete. This measure is necessary for easy removal and replacement of the sensor in the event of its failure. A sensor embedded in concrete cannot be easily removed. The pipe is led to the wall on which the thermostat is installed.
  3. After laying the floor, begin installing the regulator. In the selected location, prepare a recess in the wall according to the dimensions of the built-in thermostat housing or make markings for attaching the overhead thermostat. Remove the front panel and secure the regulator in place.
  4. Compare the permissible switching power of the thermostat contacts with the power of the heating cable or infrared floor. If it is less, an additional magnetic starter with a coil rating of ~220V is installed. In this case, the heating cable circuit is connected to a 220 V power supply through the contacts of the magnetic starter, and the starter coil circuit is connected to the output from the thermostat.
  5. If the switching power of the thermostat contacts is sufficient, then the heating cable is connected directly to the output from the thermostat.
  6. Connect the sensor circuit to the terminals specified in the passport or instructions.
  7. Connect the 220 V power supply to the appropriate terminals: they are usually designated as L or F - phase and N - zero. Phasing must be observed. You can determine it by the color of the wire: if the cable is new and laid according to the rules, then the phase wire has black, brown or white insulation, and the neutral wire has blue insulation. If you connect the thermostat to a common outlet, the phase is found using a voltage indicator or an indicator screwdriver.

  • Check the functionality of the thermostat:
  • 220 V power supply;
  • Set the minimum temperature value on the thermostat;
  • Turn on the floor heating with a toggle switch;
  • Change the temperature mode to maximum by turning the knob or using buttons - a click should be heard, notifying that the heating circuit is closed.

Thermostats for water floor heating systems are a device for controlling a servo drive that regulates the flow of coolant into the heating circuit. They can be either electronically or manually controlled, while such control systems usually use sensors for measuring air temperature rather than floor temperature, due to the high inertia of heating.

  1. The sensor is installed at a height of approximately 100-120 cm above the floor level on the wall, possibly next to the thermostat. The wall should not be subjected to additional heating from heating radiators.
  2. Install the power supply circuits of the thermostat and the sensor circuits.
  3. If a thermostat with electrical connection with a servo drive is used, lay a cable to its control circuits.
  4. When using a radio-controlled controller, adjust it.
  5. The operation of the control system is checked using an external thermometer: the desired mode is set on the regulator and the temperature is measured at the location where the sensor is installed for several hours. The temperature should not fluctuate significantly.

All connection work electrical circuits must be performed when disabled circuit breaker– this is the key to your safety!
