A long tubular rod is attached to the gearbox of a two-stroke internal combustion engine. A shaft passes inside the bar, transmitting torque from the gasoline engine to the cutting mechanism. What to do if the engine does not start?

If it is not possible to start a lawn mower, then the first thing to do is to check the presence of fuel in the tank and its quality. To refuel the tool, it is recommended to use high-quality gasoline purchased at gas stations, the brand of which must be at least AI-92. Saving on cheap fuel can lead to a breakdown of the cylinder-piston group, the repair of which can take a third of the cost of the lawn mower itself. Equally important and correctly prepare the fuel mixture of gasoline and oil. The proportional ratio of these components of the mixture is indicated by the manufacturer in the manual. Do not prepare the fuel mixture in large volumes, as long-term storage loses its properties. It is better to use a freshly prepared mixture.

A clogged fuel filter in the tank can also interfere with the engine of the lawn mower. Therefore, if you have problems starting the engine, check the condition of the filter. Replace the filter if necessary. It is forbidden to leave the inlet pipe without a fuel filter.

The air filter also needs to be checked. When contaminated, the part is removed, washed in gasoline in the field and put in place. In the country or at home, the filter can be washed in water using detergents. After that, the filter is rinsed, wrung out and dried. The dried filter is moistened a small amount oil used to prepare the fuel mixture. Excess oil is removed by squeezing the filter with your hands. The part is then put into place. The removed cover is put back and fixed with screws.

If all of the above procedures are carried out, and the engine does not start, then adjust its idle speed by tightening the carburetor screw. In the video posted at the beginning of the article, attention is paid to this issue.

So, in order:

  1. Lay the tool on its side so that the air filter is at the top. With this arrangement of the chainsaw, the fuel mixture is ensured exactly at the bottom of the carburetor. On the first try, the engine will start if you remove the air filter before starting and pour a few drops of the mixture into the carburetor, then reinstall the dismantled parts. The method has been tested in practice.
  2. If the first tip does not work, then most likely the problem is in the spark plug. In this case, unscrew the spark plug and check its performance, and also dry the combustion chamber. Replace the spark plug that shows no signs of life with a new one.
  3. If the spark plug is in good condition, the filters are clean and the fuel mixture is fresh, then you can use universal way engine start. Close the carburetor choke and pull the starter handle once. Then open the throttle and pull the starter 2-3 more times. Repeat the procedure three to five times. The engine will definitely start.

Some pull the handle with such force that they have to repair the starter of the lawn mower with their own hands. This is only possible if the cable breaks or the cable handle breaks. In other cases, it is recommended to replace the starter. This unit is sold as a set.

How to replace the spark plug correctly?

The order of work is as follows:

  • Stop the engine and wait until it cools down.
  • Disconnect the high voltage wire from the spark plug.
  • Unscrew the part using a special key.
  • Inspect the spark plug for replacement. The part is replaced if it is faulty, heavily soiled, has a crack on the body.
  • Check the gap between the electrodes. Its value should be 0.6 mm.
  • Tighten the new spark plug inserted into the engine with a wrench.
  • Spend installation of a high-voltage wire on the central electrode of a candle.

Why does the lawn mower stall after starting?

After starting, the engine may stall if the carburetor is incorrectly adjusted or misaligned. By what signs can one understand that the reason really lies in this? Very simply, by the vibrations that will be clearly felt during the operation of the lawnmower. You can adjust the fuel supply with your own hands by doing everything that is written in the instruction manual for the tool.

The engine may stall due to a clogged fuel valve. The cause is eliminated by cleaning it. If the lawn mower starts up, and then abruptly stalls, it means that the fuel supply to the carburetor is difficult. Loosen the carburetor valves to ensure that fuel flows freely to it in the right amount.

Too much air can also stall the engine. Increase the engine speed so that air bubbles exit the unit's fuel system more quickly. Also be sure to check the integrity of the fuel intake hose. If mechanical damage is found (cracks, punctures, etc.), replace the part.

Some models have a shock absorber between the steering column and the stem. All control elements(lock lever, ignition switch, throttle button) are located on the handle.

A bevel-bevel gearbox is connected to the lower end of the rod, but some lightweight models are available without it. This is due to the fact that their rod has a curved shape, and the shaft is a flexible cable.

It often happens that the multi-faceted or square splines of the drive shaft “lick off”, while the working mechanism does not rotate or does it with slippage. Then the shaft is changed.

If there is no whole rod suitable for installation, then you can tighten the fracture site with a clamp or apply a semblance of a tire. This is a temporary measure and should be replaced as soon as possible.

Clutch repair

When a knife or fishing line, when the engine is idling, is almost constantly spinning, and uncharacteristic sounds come from the front of the engine, this indicates a breakdown of the clutch. The cause is a broken spring. At the same time, the technique mows normally.

The trimmer clutch is repaired as follows:

  • remove the cover from the muffler;
  • remove the metal stand;

Carrying out repair of a gasoline engine, carburetor and gearbox

Engine problems can be caused by problems with the piston system, seals, rings. To eliminate them, you need remove drive motor.

Determining what exactly caused the breakdown is not easy. If there is a guarantee, the mechanism should be taken to a service center for diagnostics and repair. If it is not possible to turn to specialists for help, then it should be borne in mind that replacement of piston rings is most often required. To do this, you need to disassemble the engine, get the piston. Do it in the following sequence:

  • remove the cover of the plastic case by unscrewing the screws or pressing the clamps;
  • disconnect the rod with the crankshaft;
  • remove the cylinder head;
  • take out the piston and rings;

  • assemble in reverse order.

With regular use, lawn mowers can break gear. Gears, bearings wear out in it (they can also break). To keep this from happening infrequently, this assembly should be lubricated regularly. “Licked” because the splines of the shaft at the top are not engaged in their entire length (it happens that the shaft clings only a few millimeters at the end). At the bottom, the shaft enters the gearbox to its full length under its own weight.

At the first t.o. the trimmer must be checked and made so that the shaft enters the clutch at the top for the entire length of the splines (or edges, if there is a square). To do this, try to put the gearbox higher on the pipe, after loosening its fastening, or try to push the pipe deeper into the shock absorber, after loosening its fastening. If the splines of the shaft still do not enter the clutch to their full length, then it is necessary to shorten the pipe (cut off a part) to the length necessary for the splines to fully enter the clutch.

Warning: Just do not overdo it with cutting the pipe (it is better to cut smaller piece), since if the shaft turns out to be longer and it needs to be cut off, then when the shaft splines are heated, the metal will be released, i.e. hardened metal will become soft and will not last long (the shaft itself is made of alloy steel).

Trimmer repair: how to stop lubricant leakage from the gearbox

Trimmer failure:
Where does the lubricant go from the trimmer gearbox (a Chinese trimmer, instead of a cork, I screwed a grease fitting and a syringe into the gearbox).

Cause of trimmer failure:
Solid oil under pressure pushed through the closed bearings of the gearbox.
