Cross stitch patterns for pillows. Cross stitching a pillow in a training lesson (photos and diagrams). Original embroidery for sofa cushions

Our everyday life is decorated with little things - trinkets that are pleasing to the eye and serve a decorative role, toys, figurines, paintings, napkins, sofa cushions. All of them are able to give the room a special charm and comfort. And embroidery on the pillow will add even more charm to the interior.

Nice hobby

Despite being absolutely busy with life's problems, people strive to find free time for creativity. For many, embroidery becomes an outlet in everyday worries. The history of this art is experiencing a rebirth in the present - everything more people, and of different ages and gender, are passionate about embroidery. The creation of these handmade paintings in various techniques- the matter is very complex and painstaking. But embroidery on a pillow is available to anyone who wants to get creative with a thread and a needle and at the same time decorate the interior of the room with something original.

Sofa pendants - beautiful and bright

Embroidery on a pillow has been one of the most common ways to create coziness in a home for a long time. After all, all handmade had its own sacred meaning - such things served as amulets, protecting households from evil spirits. Retaining this purpose, sofa cushions over time also became mandatory. decorative item everyday life Small ones began to be called thoughts, apparently because they beckoned one to take a nap on the sofa, rest one’s head on their patterned surface, relax, and think. Embroidery on a pillow could be very different in style, design, and technique.

Beauty with a cross

By the way, this is not very difficult - embroidery. Sofa cushions decorated using this technique can be an excellent proof of this. After all, there is no need to embroider a multi-colored picture on a sofa cushion. Sometimes a one- or two-color ornament is quite enough. You can run it along the edge of a pillow or embroider a corner with a simple pattern - and an ordinary thing will immediately turn into something original.

The most difficult thing in cross stitch is color transitions, when you need to accurately count the number of squares of one color or another. But if there are only one or two shades of floss, then there is absolutely no difficulty in such work.

And there are different crosses

The embroidery pattern of a pillow that will decorate a home can be very different, as well as the patterns with which it is decorated.

It is most convenient to embroider with the simplest cross stitch - a stitch along the diagonal of the square, from left to right, and then along the other diagonal - from right to left. It is most convenient to embroider paths and sections of the same color with such crosses, changing the thread when moving to another section.

That is, first, diagonal stitches are embroidered in one direction across all squares of the same shade, then the same squares are quilted along the second diagonals in the opposite direction. This cross is the most primitive.

But there are also quite complex methods - elongated crosses, when the stitch goes on two conditional squares. Or semi-extended crosses - in one direction the stitch is two squares, and in the other - only one.

Even more difficult is the so-called double or Bulgarian cross - the stitches are first made along two diagonals, and then along the centers of the sides of the cell - from bottom to top and from left to right. It is up to the needlewoman to decide how to create the drawing. But cross-stitching a pillow still prefers to use the most ordinary embroidery cross.

Various themes for every taste

In order to create a beautiful sofa cushion with your own with my own hands using vintage look needlework - cross stitch, you can use any designs, any threads you like and are suitable for a specific job.

Traditionally, they are used for this. They are strong and silky enough to make them comfortable to work with. Oh color scheme there is no need to even say, since manufacturers try to embody in their product range shades of all the colors that the human eye can discern.

But you can embroider with almost any thread, as long as it matches the design. As for the theme of embroidered sofa pillows, it, naturally, can be very different - from classic bouquets to some technical diagram, if you like it. You can find some patterns, divided into cells for ease of embroidery, in our article.

All around

Why is embroidery on a pillow convenient? Because it is absolutely not necessary to fill its entire field with patterns. Sometimes there are only enough of them in a corner, and your little thought will become a decoration of your favorite sofa. You can sew a pillowcase from several parts, one of which will be cross-stitched, and the rest will be just fabric. You can place the embroidered piece in the center or on the edge - as you see fit in a particular embodiment.

How to use fabric effectively? You can choose a piece large enough to accommodate several small embroideries, make them all, and then use them in different pillows. This way you will get a whole set of little thoughts in the same style. If there is no piece of fabric suitable for stretching onto the hoop, then it is covered with another fabric using running stitches. In any case, a cross-stitched sofa pillow is a cozy interior detail that is both decorative and practical, and therefore can be whatever you want.

Fairy tales for children

There is no doubt that for a child the world should, first of all, be joyful and interesting. And the interior of a children's room or children's corner must meet these requirements. Embroidery of children's pillows, made by the hands of loving relatives, can bring great joy to the baby if it depicts a favorite character from a fairy tale or cartoon.

And for the tiniest babies you can embroider crib pillows. For example, decorate each with embroidery with a child’s drawing, and then sew the sides into a crib from several small pillows. Things created with love with your own hands have the power of a talisman, as our ancestors believed.

For lasting joy

Any handmade work is painstaking, thoughtful, creative work. Undoubtedly, you want the results of your creativity to please you for as long as possible. Therefore, when the embroidery is ready, it is washed and the reverse side is steamed through the fabric. Then they collect the entire pillow. Embroidered products should be washed by hand, rinsing in slightly salted water, then dried and ironed from the inside out through the fabric, placing the fabric inside the product.

This is a cross stitch pillow. Schemes for such work can be found ready-made, or you can break your favorite picture into cells yourself or use special computer programs for this.

You can decorate a sofa cushion with an ornament of just three or four shades. We offer a pattern of 4 colors (it is presented below) - brown (K), green (G), blue (S), lilac (L). The ornament consists of sections that repeat one after another. So, the top track is embroidered with the following repeat on 27 squares of canvas:

  • Row 1 - skip seven squares, 11 crosses K;
  • Row 2 - skip 4 cells, 4 K, skip 9 cells, 4 K;
  • Row 3 - skip 2 cells, 3 K, skip 9, 1 C, skip 5, 3 K;
  • 4 row - 4 K, skip 9, 3 C, 7 empty, 3 K;
  • 5th row - 1 K, 6 empty, 5 C, 4 empty, 4 W, 4 empty, 1 K;
  • 6th row - 1 K, 4 empty, 2 C, 5 empty, 1 C, 2 empty, 6 W, 3 empty, 1 K, 1 empty, 1 K;

  • 8 row - skip 2, 4 K, 4 empty, 1 C, 4 empty, 4 L, 4 empty, 3 K;
  • 9 row - 2 empty, 1 K, 2 skip, 2 K, 6 skip, 1 W, 1 empty, 4 L, 1 C, 6 empty, 1 K;
  • 10 row - 1 K, 5 empty, 1 K, 5 empty, 2 W, 1 empty, 4 L, 1 S, skip 1, 2 S, 3 empty, 1 K;
  • 11th row - 2 K, 4 empty, 1 K, 5 empty, 2 W, 1 empty, 1 L, 4 S, 1 empty, 3 S, 3 empty;
  • Row 12 - 1 cell empty, 2 K, 1 empty, 2 K, 6 empty, 2 W, 6 empty, 1 L, 7 empty;
  • Row 13 - skip 2, K 3, 7 empty, 2 Z, 4 empty, 2 S, 1 empty, 2 S, 4 empty;
  • Row 14 - skip 13 cells, 1 W, 4 empty, 2 C, 1 empty, 2 C.

Cross stitch does not imply a description of the work in rows - the work uses diagrams of the design, laid out in colored squares. The needlewoman independently calculates the number of cells of a particular color, changing the thread in the needle as the color changes, or embroidering large areas in one color, sequentially counting row after row.

A sofa pillow-thought is a comfort in one of the corners of the house, created by the caring hands of a needlewoman for long-lasting joy.

  • canvas
  • cotton

The threads are selected at the request of the embroiderer. Having prepared everything necessary for creative ideas, let's study step by step execution cross.

Cross stitch techniques

There are several ways to apply crosses to fabric.

The first method is to embroider the entire cross. Using this method, crosses are applied both vertically and horizontally. Let's get acquainted with the vertical execution of the stitch.

Vertical stitch method

  1. The procedure begins by inserting a needle and thread into the upper right hole.
  2. Next it is stitched diagonally to the lower left point.
  3. We climb up from the inside out.
  4. We descend diagonally into the lower right hole.
  5. After one point we go up.
  6. The thread passes diagonally into the lower left hole of the next square.
  7. The following steps are repeated.

On the wrong side of the work, you get two even straight lines parallel to each other.

Horizontal stitch method

Crosses are embroidered horizontally in the following steps:

  1. The stitching starts from the top right to the bottom left hole.
  2. From the lower left corner it goes to the upper left point.
  3. Next, the needle and thread are inserted into the lower right hole.
  4. The needle comes out diagonally at the top right point.
  5. The procedure is repeated again.

While working, we observe the direction of the stitches - they should lie in one direction, then you will get an aesthetically beautiful and correct pattern. The reverse side of horizontal embroidery is distinguished by oblique lines.

Step-by-step execution of oblique stripes in one direction, then in the other. This method performed in the following steps:

The reverse side of this embroidery is distinguished by small stitches.

Having learned how to make cross stitches, we begin to embroider wonderful sofa accessories. Cross-stitched items look original in any room of a residential building. Cushions are chosen to match the furniture, wallpaper or curtains and represent a bright accent that attracts attention.

Sofa cushions are decorated with a variety of ornaments chosen by the needlewoman. Often craftswomen use a pattern of embroidered chains closed together. It is in this product that the main, central square pattern with a border on the side. The embroiderers also depict flowers in the center, and the edges are decorated with border patterns. The combination of various images looks quite good and attractive.

How to create a pillow

To create a unique pillow with original patterns, we immediately make a pillow, and then sew an embroidered pillowcase on it.

Sewing the pillow itself is easy. Let's consider the detailed step by step instructions creative process.

Step 1

We take a dense material, cut out two lengths of our product with seam allowances.

Step 2

Sew on sewing machine three and a half sides of the future product.

Step 3

Cut it out required size padding polyester

Step 4

We place the artificial filler in a sewn pillowcase.

Step 5

Sew up the remaining hole using a blind stitch.

The interior item is almost ready. All that remains is to decorate it with a delightful pillowcase embroidered with a cross.

Before decorating the product, we think about what fabric we will use. You can use the same fabric for the entire pillowcase, it is possible to reproduce the ornament on the canvas, and back design with a different material structure. It all depends on your wishes and creative fantasies needlewomen.

Let's start cross stitching the pillow

The schematic drawing on paper is divided into squares ten by ten cells. To make the ornament perfect, use a special marker to draw the same squares on the canvas as in the chosen pattern. We mark the center of the pattern by folding the canvas in half twice and begin embroidering from the mark we made.

Having finished the embroidery process, we prepare the back of our pillow:

  1. To do this, using sharp tailor's scissors, a piece is cut out of the selected fabric, identical to the embroidered canvas with allowances for basting.
  2. We apply canvas and fabric, sew up three parts with a sewing machine - the top and two sides.
  3. We sew a snake into the remaining lower part of the pillowcase.
  4. The product is turned inside out. The exclusive pillowcase is ready. The final stage will be placing the made pillow in a new and beautiful pillowcase.
  • I would like to note that interior pillows are embroidered at more dense tissues and are completely stitched with a cross.
  • Sleeping pillows are usually made of soft fabrics and embroidered with simple designs.
  • Cushions intended for decorating apartments are complemented with soutache cord or tassels.

Instead of a zipper, buttons and ties made of satin ribbons are often used. Craftswomen use their interesting and unusual ideas, which are never repeated. Such a hobby as cross-stitching a pillow brings joy and a great mood. Handmade items are great as gifts for Christmas. significant dates, because they convey warmth and tenderness to the person being gifted.

Cross stitching a pillow in Rus' has always been an almost sacred thing. Why did this happen? Embroidery of pillows has long been the most favorite handicraft, and the cross has always been considered a talisman against evil spirits and the evil eye. Icons and paintings with various images are embroidered with a cross. But besides this, it has long been common among people to decorate all sorts of household items with embroidery. Most often, pillows were cross-stitched. Cross stitching of pillows was very common in earlier times. It was difficult to find a home that did not have embroidered pillows. If the cross is cleansing and protects from all evil, then such embroidery on a pillow is considered to bring good to everyone who uses it. Nowadays, embroidered sofa cushions are also very popular.

The agenda of our lesson today is cross stitch. A sofa pillow is most often embroidered with a cross. Embroidery on pillows is done in the same way as any other cross-stitch work. Embroidered pillows look especially attractive on a sofa or ottoman. In order to embroider a sofa cushion, we will need a pattern, as well as the following materials:

  • canvas;
  • special marker for marking outline;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • scheme;
  • needle.

If you have already noticed, embroidering pillows requires the same materials and tools as making any other product.

Having a magnifying glass is only necessary if you have a very small caliber circuit. Cross stitching a pillow begins with simple steps like threading a needle and securing the thread to the canvas. Separate one thread from the bundle and fold it in half so that the tail of the loop remains at the bottom, and thread the two connected ends into a needle.

To properly secure the thread to the canvas, insert the thread from the inside to the face, leaving the tail on the inside. Making a stitch obliquely, we bring the thread back to the wrong side and pick up the loop with the needle, tightening it. Let's tighten the loop not too tightly, and not weakly. We bring the needle back to the front side and make the first cross.

Features of working with diagrams and outlines

Any pattern is divided into squares, and pillow embroidery is no exception. We advise you to draw the same squares on the canvas. In this case, it will be very easy for you to embroider the pillow. It is most convenient to embroider any patterns from the center of the canvas. In order to determine this center, fold the canvas in half, and then in half again. At the intersection of the fold lines is the center of the outline, from which we will draw it into squares. We embroider it as if we were embroidering any other product, painting or icon.

Assembling the pillow after embroidery

When the embroidery of the pillows is finished, you need to assemble them correctly. The top side is already ready. All we have to do is purchase a part of the product called the underside of the pillowcase with a zipper.

In addition to embroidering the pillow, it is necessary to make an inner pillowcase, which we cut from any light fabric to the size of the product. After this, you need to make a light basting, and then stitch it on a typewriter. Once the bottom pillowcase is sewn, we will need synthetic soft padding material. We need to fill our pillowcase with this soft filler.

And now the moment has come to connect the lower outside with embroidered top side. To do this, you need to place the top and bottom parts face to face, and stitch around the entire perimeter of the product with very strong threads. And at the end of the work, we unzip the bottom pillowcase and turn the entire product right side out. After this, we insert the already prepared bottom pad, filled with soft synthetic padding, through the unzipped zipper.

So we figured out exactly how pillow embroidery is done, and further work on completing and assembling the embroidered pillow. In our lesson you can find patterns for an embroidered pillow that you can use if you like them.

An example of a pattern for embroidering a sofa cushion “Angel Wings”

Sofa cushions are an invariable attribute of comfort, home warmth, comfort. Such pillows, of course, can be bought in a store, or you can make them yourself. At the very least, you can definitely make a case for them yourself. Children's, holiday, themed, universal. The technique used can be very different; cross-stitched pillows are especially held in high esteem today.

Today you can buy almost anything for your home. You won’t find any decorative item in a store, so buy it from artisans. But what makes just an apartment your home, cozy, warm, with a special atmosphere, are the things you create with your own hands. And handicraft skills will help a lot with this.

What catches the guests' eyes when they enter the room? If this is a living room, then, of course, there is a sofa area. Both quantity and quality sofa cushions. If they are cute, beautiful, pleasing to the eye, the guest immediately feels at home. And if the covers for these pillows are made by you, then they will arouse interest, and compliments are guaranteed.

Embroidery is not a quick process and requires strength and attention. Such work, if done well, always deserves respect. But many of the embroideries remain somewhere on the shelves of the needlewoman’s table, and they must be given the opportunity to see the light. Therefore, feel free to embroider the front side of the pillow cover, and you, your family and your guests will be able to see the product of your creativity for a very long time.

Fashionable patterns for cross-stitched pillows

In most cases, patterns are given for pillows measuring 40x40 cm, this is the standard. What we embroider depends on your preferences. This could be a specific ornament, gorgeous flowers (for example, fiery poppies), a magical cat, fabulous and stylized animals.

The most popular pillow patterns are pillows with flowers. Delicate magnolia, light pink rosebuds, yellow tulips, blue-white primroses, etc. You can combine two themes - for example, a cat in dandelions, or birds of paradise sitting on unimaginably beautiful flowers.

Embroidery on Gzhel and Khokhloma pillows is in fashion; embroidery with abstract geometric patterns is also popular. Front side the pillow can even be a soccer ball - you can embroider such a pillow for children. Pillows in a room for newborns are more delicate, usually these are cute kittens and teddy bears, as well as the baby’s metrics embroidered on the same pillow.

Interior cross-stitching of sofa cushions: patterns

If the theme - children, flowers, toys - is not very interesting to you, then what should you embroider on sofa cushions? Of course, there are options. But think about whether such a pillow will suit the style of your interior; it should complement it, and not be an alien element in the already established appearance of the room.

What patterns of sofa cushions can you take:

  • Moon pillow in blue-violet tones;
  • Polar wolf pillow;
  • Abstract ornament in red and gold tones;
  • Tigers on vacation;
  • Sea waves;
  • Pillows with 19th century designs;
  • Scheme Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, etc.

The size of the diagram is usually taken as standard - 139x134 crosses. And if you want to buy a ready-made set, the same Riolis products will come to the rescue. For beginners, it is better to use ready-made kits, which already have instructions and selected materials; such kits are good for learning embroidery.

A simple cross stitch pattern for a pillow: ornament

If you are just trying your hand at embroidery and do not yet see the difference between a half-cross and a Bulgarian cross, for example, do not take on complex patterns. If you still want to embroider a pillow, try patterns with monochrome patterns. This can be a rectangular fragment, which you then simply sew onto the case. For example, a white pillow with a red ornament is classic version. Very often such pillows are embroidered for the New Year.

The red and white color scheme is associated with Christmas and this whole festive atmosphere. Therefore, you can’t think of a better way to transform a room for the New Year - a couple of red and white sofa cushions, Christmas tree decorations in the same color scheme, a tablecloth, etc. By the way, Christmas tree decorations can also be cross-stitched - more precisely, you can make covers for them with embroidery with red threads on a white canvas. And for many years such paraphernalia will delight you during the holidays.

Cross stitching a pillow in a training lesson (photos and diagrams)

Currently, embroidery on pillows is becoming popular again, and therefore we want to tell you how you can make wonderful embroidered sofa pillows with your own hands. As a rule, cross-stitching a pillow does not take much time for an experienced craftswoman, but for beginner needlewomen we would still recommend more simple circuits, with which they can easily and quickly decorate their home.

Cross stitch patterns or designs on a pillow

Our small master class is designed primarily for beginner craftswomen, so we will not describe embroidery complex circuit, but let’s take an ordinary heart as an example and embroider such a cute image on a pillow. But, before you start work, we advise you to prepare everything you need. You will need:

  • checkered paper with a printed color image (in our case, the design is monochromatic, so a black and white scheme will suit us);
  • pins;
  • pillow;
  • knitting threads of the desired colors (for the pattern we have chosen, only red ones are needed).

Let's get to work!
First, take the paper on which your diagram is printed and carefully pin it to the pillow. In order for the embroidery of the pillow to be even and beautiful, you need to make sure that the sheet lies evenly and does not puff up anywhere. Once you are sure of this, you can get to work.

Usually, cross stitching pillows takes quite a lot of time, but since the image we have chosen is very simple, you will complete this task quite quickly.

When the embroidery of the pillow is finished, you will need to remove the now unnecessary paper. You can carefully trim the edges with scissors, but you will have to “clean” the middle by hand.

As a result, you should get such a wonderful cross-stitched pillow.

As you yourself have probably already noticed, embroidering pillows is not always a troublesome and painstaking task. Even the most ordinary drawing will help you decorate sofa cushions, which will subsequently “revive” your interior and bring fresh “notes” to it.

Original embroidery for sofa cushions

If you want your living room to be transformed, but at the same time you don’t have the time or money to renovate, you can add a few bright accents that will “revive” this room. Embroidering pillows can be an excellent solution because these small “accessories” not only serve to decorate the room, but also provide you with the proper level of comfort.
So, for work we need:

  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • hole puncher;
  • scissors;
  • needle;
  • padding polyester;
  • yellow knitting threads;
  • a piece of black fabric (32.5 * 32.5 cm);
  • green fabric from which we will sew the pillow itself.

Let's start embroidering the pillow!
First you need to make markings on black fabric. In this case, you should get a neat grid consisting of squares, each side of which is 1 cm.

Then, stepping back 2 cm from each edge, you will need to make small holes at the intersection of all lines using a hole punch:

We will not need an embroidery pattern, since we will be embroidering 2 large english letters: "Hi." To make the embroidered pillows brighter and more unusual, we chose yellow threads that will go well with the black base.

After we finish working on the embroidery, we will need to attach the base to the green fabric and cut out 2 parts according to its size.
Then all we have to do is sew all three parts and fill the pad with padding polyester.

It is worth noting that embroidering pillows is a creative process, so you can safely experiment and create your own unique patterns and original inscriptions. Such cute embroidered pillows will undoubtedly attract the attention of your guests and make the interior of your room special and exclusive.

Interesting patterns for embroidering sofa cushions

Pillow embroidery is divided into several types according to the level of complexity of the work performed. Of course, experienced craftswomen will be able to embroider almost any pattern without any problems, but at first it is better for novice needlewomen to give their preference to more simple drawings or patterns.
To make embroidering pillows less time and effort, you can buy ready-made kits with canvas, patterns and threads in advance. But if you don’t have such an opportunity, then you can easily choose a pattern yourself and embroider a cute sofa cushion using it.
