The fence performs not only a protective function - it is also a kind of “calling card” of the owner of the site. It is by its appearance that passers-by judge the level of wealth of the owners, their taste and even character. This means that the fence needs to be given no less attention than the house and outbuildings. What should the fence be like? Of course, durable, unpretentious and attractive in appearance. It is also desirable that its installation be as cheap as possible.

All these requirements are met by fences made of profile sheets on concrete pillars. Judge for yourself! Corrugated sheets are not afraid of either frost or hot sun. It has good noise-insulating and windproof qualities, and can make your area more comfortable. It's durable and durable material, since its service life is at least twenty years. Construction methods

There are two options for constructing a fence from a profile sheet on concrete pillars. You can purchase ready-made supports. In this case, time is saved, but you cannot be sure of the quality of the concrete; you will have to be content with pillars of a standard shape and size. In addition, the problem of attaching corrugated sheeting to a completely smooth concrete pillar will inevitably arise.

Or you can cast the supports yourself, spending some time on this, but in the future be confident in their strength, have the opportunity to create exclusive pillars, and, in addition, solve the problem of embedded elements to which the logs will subsequently be attached.

If you choose the second option, we begin building the fence, dividing it into several stages.

Frame material

It is possible to create a pole and then install it in the ground, or monolithic casting, in which the support is made directly at the installation site. To create a pillar using the first method, you first need to make formwork. The material can be:

  • wooden box of appropriate dimensions (for a pole square section). Inner surface the box is lined with plastic and covered with polyethylene;
  • cut lengthwise metal pipe, tightened with clamps (for round supports). The inside of the pipe must be coated with diesel fuel or waste so that the concrete does not stick to the metal.

In addition, keep in mind that concrete, for all its advantages, is not resistant to fracture. Therefore, to eliminate this drawback you will need reinforcement.

Two manufacturing technologies

If the post has a cross-section of 10x10 cm, then four rods with a diameter of 1 cm and a wire 0.8 cm thick are enough to tie or weld them, creating a reinforcement frame.

The dimensions of the frame must be such that it is surrounded on all sides by a layer of concrete at least 2 cm thick, otherwise moisture will quickly destroy the reinforcement, and after it the pillar itself.
Used for concrete mix fine crushed stone and sand - 3 parts, cement - 1 part, water - 20% of the volume of solid components, various dyes and additives that accelerate the setting of concrete, hydrophobic, increase frost resistance and other additives.

First way

First, a layer of concrete 2 cm thick is poured into the formwork. Then a reinforcement cage is installed, and the form is poured to the top. Concrete mix must be subjected to vibration to avoid the formation of shells that weaken the structure. After the concrete hardens, the formwork is disassembled, so it is better to do it with screws.

Don't forget about the mortgages to which the logs will later be attached! They should protrude approximately 15 cm beyond the post, so you will need to make slots in the formwork in the right places, and weld the metal plates themselves to the reinforcement, having previously determined their location.

Second way

The monolithic casting process is similar to that described above, with the difference that in this case A hole is made in the ground, a layer of crushed stone 2 cm thick is poured into it. Next, the frame is installed and filled with concrete.

After it has set, the formwork is placed and the pillar is concreted in several stages, the mixture being compacted each time by vibrating or bayoneting.

Before installing pre-cast posts, or when drilling holes for monolithic casting, carefully mark the area and determine the position of the corner posts. Stretch the twine between them and mark the locations for the remaining supports.

Cast pillars are installed in prepared holes, on sand or crushed stone cushion, fixed with wedges and concreted in layers with compaction of each layer.

When using corrugated sheets, the optimal distance between them is 2.5 meters. Don't forget to mark where the gate and/or gate will be located.

Consider a few nuances

A fence made of corrugated board is a solid structure, which means it will experience high wind loads, so the depth of the hole should be about 2/3 of the height of the fence (for example, with a fence height of 180 cm, a hole with a depth of 120 cm is needed).

Concrete supports are quite heavy, and at the slightest deviation from the vertical during installation, they will tilt further in the future. Carefully check their verticality using a level or plumb line.

For wet soils and great strength frost heaving, the supports need additional reinforcement, so in this case the hole is made with an expansion in the lower part (for monolithic casting) or a concrete base is created that is larger in diameter than the pillar (if the pillars were cast in advance).
Using a plumb line and twine stretched over the top of the corner posts, make sure that the height of all supports is the same, otherwise it will be difficult to avoid distortions in the future.

When the concrete has set, the upper parts of the supports must be protected from rain and other adverse factors with special caps. Keep in mind that the diameter of the caps should be approximately 10 cm larger than the diameter of the pillar. If the supports are already installed, proceed to the next stage.

We weld the logs

First, you should fix (weld) on the embedded logs - a steel transverse profile, on which you will later attach profile sheet. For them, you can take a metal pipe with a cross-section of 25 - 40 mm (a pipe with a smaller diameter may not withstand the weight of metal sheets).

The number of logs depends on the height of the fence: if it is no more than 1.8 meters, then two logs are enough; for higher heights it is better to use three logs. Keep in mind that the top joist is attached at a distance of 30 cm from the top of the pillars. The lower one is at a distance of 30 cm from the ground. And the middle one (if needed) is in the middle.
In advance, even at the stage of casting the concrete pillars, decide on the height of the fence and, in accordance with this parameter, find the attachment points for the mortgages, then you will not have any problems installing the joists!

After the logs are welded, the welding areas must be cleaned, primed and all metal parts painted. And finally, the last stage.

Selection of corrugated sheets

First, a few words about this material: after all, it will determine appearance your fence.

Firstly, you need wall corrugated sheeting designed specifically for these purposes, and not roofing sheeting.

Secondly, when choosing it, pay attention not only to color, but also to quality. Distinguish the following types wall corrugated sheets:

  1. S-8. Bestseller due to low price.
  2. S-10. It will be stronger and stiffer, and also have a more attractive appearance.
  3. S-14. The best option, if there is a high probability of any mechanical damage to your fence.
  4. S-15. A sheet with a wide edge, which will give your fence originality.
  5. S-18 and S-20. The most durable and rigid sheets used for high fences.

Also consider the thickness of the profile. For a wall sheet, this parameter should be at least 0.4 mm (preferably 0.45 mm). Sheets with a smaller thickness can only be used to create temporary fences.

The type of coating is no less important. Remember that zinc coating (the sheet will be metallic in color), although the cheapest, is short-lived. A polymer coating, when a synthetic resin is applied to a layer of zinc, increases the resistance of the sheet to aggressive factors and extends its service life. Plastisol is the most reliable, but also the most expensive coating.
Be sure to check that the sheets are smooth, without scratches, and evenly painted. When purchasing, make sure the packaging film is intact.

Attaching the sheathing to the joists

The sheets are assembled overlapping and attached to the joists with self-tapping screws 3.5 cm long at intervals of 50 cm. Try to purchase self-tapping screws of the same color as the fence - the structure will look better.

Be sure to use gloves when working with this material, otherwise cuts and scratches cannot be avoided. Stock up in advance with a can of paint of the same color as the corrugated sheeting in case of scratches that may occur during installation and during operation.

It is recommended to install the sheets in a protective PET film: it will protect the sheet from most damage. But immediately after installation, the film should be removed, otherwise under the influence of UV rays it will firmly stick to the metal, and removing it in the future will be problematic.

Over time, the polyethylene will lose its transparency, tear in places, hanging in shreds, and give your otherwise perfect fence an unkempt appearance.

The construction of the fencing of the territory must be carried out in compliance with all current norms and regulations as carefully as the construction of a residential building or industrial premises.

Attaching logs to a metal pole

Let's consider the procedure for installing lags (veins, crossbars) using the example of the construction of the most inexpensive, popular and beautiful fence from metal profile.
Most often, the basis for attaching the logs are metal pillars made of round or profiled pipes, to which using bolts suitable diameter(depending on the cross-section of the veins) fasteners are attached. The same procedure is used for attaching logs to brick, stone and concrete pillars that have metal embedded parts.
If you immediately buy a set of fence elements in a store, it should include fasteners for the joists:
  • X-brackets;
  • different types of log holders;
  • rivets;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Bolts with nuts.
Installation of the lag occurs in the following sequence:
  1. Mark the mounting locations for the joist holders. For a fence height of up to 1.5 meters, two horizontal veins are sufficient. If higher, up to and more than 2 meters, three are installed. The logs should be attached at a distance of 25-35cm from the lower and upper edges of the corrugated sheet.
  2. X-brackets are attached to the pole at the marking points.
  3. Holes for bolts are drilled in the horizontal joists.
  4. The logs are directly attached.
Typically, this design uses metal profiled or round pipes, but it is also possible to use durable wooden blocks.

Attaching joists to poles using welding

You can attach logs to metal racks using electric welding. The same applies to concrete and stone pillars with embedded elements.
Logs can be welded to a post in the following ways:
  1. in front of the riser butt;
  2. in front of the post using a holder;
  3. close to the side of the pillar, closer to front side fence

The fact is that fence parts are sold already painted, or a good owner paints them before installation, but welding destroys them protective covering. What metal products are used for supports?

The other options are more expensive and require more labor, but they are much more reliable:

  • concreting;
  • mounting on a concrete plinth;
  • use of screw piles.

Screw piles are suitable if the site complex and heaving soils.

Installation of fence posts

Below we list the installation rules supporting structures, which can be used for almost all pillars:

  1. The depth should be equal to 1⁄4 of the height of the entire column, only in this way can the support be securely fixed in the ground. To more securely fix the pillars, the area around them is filled with fine gravel or crushed stone and concreted.

Important: work on installing the fence continues after the concrete has completely dried.

  1. Work starts from the corner– the first post is installed, with height adjustment. Once the first support is installed, you need to make a mark to adjust the height of the remaining piles. To do this, bevel strips are dug into the corners and a string is stretched, which will serve as a guide.
  2. It depends on you how you install the posts in height, whether they will be level with the fence, or less than it, or maybe you will make them stick out from behind the fence as a decorative element. But experts recommend installing supports 10 centimeters above the main fabric of the enclosing structure.

Advice: if the soil on your site is sandy or rocky, then it is better to deepen the pillars not less than 1⁄2 of the total height of the fence, otherwise the structure may be torn out.

  1. For better stability of the support, install on the end that will be recessed steel cross, it is made from two crossed steel rods and welded.

Before you begin installing the picket fence, you need to weld special fasteners onto the supports; the transverse bars will subsequently be screwed to them. Of course, they can be installed in advance, before installing the pillars, but then it will be more difficult to monitor the exact height.

Installation starts from the corner– the first plank is nailed. On the opposite side, place a rail according to the height of the fence. A thread is stretched between the rail and the bar, which will serve as a guide for the height of the fence.

If the site is flat, it is enough to install sheets 1.5 - 1.7 m high on the foundation or raise them above the ground surface.

The foundation for a fence made of corrugated sheets can be built both when you install only metal posts, and when you intend to cover them facing bricks, and when you make pillars from sand-lime brick and reinforcement, installing during construction the necessary devices for installing the logs: plates, corners.

For the foundation under the profiled sheet, dig a trench with a depth of ½ the depth of the foundation of the support between the already installed pillars, strictly observing the lines. If the structure is massive, reinforcement is laid in the pit, attaching the opposite ends to the pillars. The width of the foundation should correspond to the width of the brick pillars - usually 1 brick. If the pillars are not lined with bricks, you can lay a foundation ½ brick wide.

The bottom of the trench is compacted, covered with crushed stone in a layer of 15-20 cm. Then it is installed along the walls removable formwork. You can build high formwork and completely concrete both the underground and above-ground parts of the foundation. Or you can pour the concrete solution only up to the surface of the soil. Stages of constructing a fence and gate from corrugated sheets

1. Calculation of the perimeter of the fence.

When determining the width of the span, you need to know what type of pillars you will use: metal, brick, metal plus brick. It should not exceed 2.5-3 m, otherwise strength is lost. It is necessary to take into account that the corrugated sheets will be installed overlapping.

2. Installation of pillars

The support column is a metal pipe. It can have a round, rectangular, square section. The most common option is a square profile of 80-100 mm. Often, after taking precise measurements, metal plates with holes for attaching a horizontal profile - a log - are welded to the post.

To securely fix the post to its lower edge, you can weld 1-2 metal crossbars perpendicularly, the length of which should not exceed the diameter of the pit. You can also drive it into the ground metal corner and weld it to the post (shown in the picture above). This is necessary to strengthen the fixation of the post.

Sequence of work:

  • we determine and mark the installation points of the pillars
  • Using a drill (manual, mechanical, electric) or bayonet and shovel shovels, holes 150-200 mm wide are dug. The depth of the hole should be equal to 1/3 of the length of the pillar.
  • the bottom of the pit is compacted, a layer of fine crushed stone or gravel is backfilled - 150-250 mm
  • a pole is installed in the hole; its vertical position should be achieved using a level
  • the pit is being concreted with a support placed in it concrete mortar, the ratio of sand and cement in which should be 5:1 - 7:1 - depending on the brand of cement, thickness and height of the column. You can use the following composition: cement - 1 part, sand - 4-5 parts, fine crushed stone - 3 parts. At the end of the stage, it is necessary to allow the concrete to completely harden for 3-5 days.

To ensure that all the posts stand on the same line, when installing them, you should stretch the cord along the entire length of the fence. Need to close top holes in metal pillars using welding or special caps.

3. Welding the gate frame and wicket

Then you need to weld the gate frame. The welding sequence of this structure is determined by everyone for themselves. The simplest option is to attach a piece of profile vertically to one of the posts and weld hinges to it. Only then do the same with the second gate post.

Then weld horizontal logs at the top and bottom perpendicular to these profiles. As a result of such welding, the gate will not open until sawing is performed in the middle of the joists (shown in the figure below).

The frame for the gate is made in a similar way. It is also necessary to provide holes in the post at the level of the future door lock.

Since the gate will open most often, you can strengthen the structure with a transverse pipe at the bottom and top of the pillars.

4. Attaching the joists to the posts

The log is a pipe, with rectangular cross-section, the perimeter of which can be 2 times smaller than the perimeter of the cross-section of the pillar pipe. You can use round pipes, but it is more difficult to attach corrugated sheets to them. If the height of the fence reaches 150-170 cm, two parallel logs are sufficient. If the fence height is over 180 cm, it is advisable to install three logs in parallel.

The logs can be placed at a distance of 30-40 cm from the bottom and top edges of the sheet. The third is placed in the middle. The lags are fastened using welding directly to the pole or by connecting with bolts with a diameter of 8-12 mm to special plates on the pole.

5. Installation of corrugated sheets

The corrugated sheet is attached to the joists with rivets for corrugated sheets using a special gun. An easier way, but a little more expensive, is to use special self-tapping screws 35 mm long to match the color of the corrugated sheet.

Fastening is carried out every 40-50 cm, depending on the width and nature of the sheet profile. Of course, it is most convenient to use self-tapping screws for attaching corrugated sheets, since you do not need to pre-drill a hole for the rivets. Using a hex bit and a drill, you can quickly attach the corrugated sheeting with self-tapping screws to the joists.

After all the work on installing the fence has been completed, you can tear off protective film from corrugated sheets, if available.
