We choose a tablet. How to choose tablets. Characteristics of tablet computers Compare tablets in the table

Choosing a tablet is no easier than choosing a smartphone. In the tablet market, the leaders are also 2 "giants", Samsung and Apple - while there are a lot of companies from Asia that do not claim the throne, but produce high-quality products worthy of the attention of buyers.

Which tablet to choose and what should you look at first of all? You will learn about this by reading this article to the end.

The choice of a tablet must be approached somewhat differently than the choice of a smartphone - nevertheless, these 2 devices have different purposes. A smartphone is needed primarily for calls; The main function of the tablet is to provide the user with access to the Internet. Therefore, when choosing a tablet, you should prioritize those criteria that affect the convenience of Internet surfing - overall performance and display size.

Performance

The speed of the tablet depends on the chipset model, the number of cores, the clock speed, the graphics accelerator, the amount of RAM when searching for information on the network, watching movies and, in particular, the game process. An ordinary user who does not expect “miracles” from a tablet should purchase a device with the following minimum performance characteristics:

  • Number of cores - from 4. 2 cores are now only enough for Apple tablets, which use processors of their own production. Buying a 2-core device with Android OS is only worth it in case of an acute shortage of money.
  • Clock frequency - from 1.4 GHz. You can watch movies and work on the Internet already at 600 MHz, but for resource-intensive games and applications this frequency will obviously not be enough.
  • The amount of RAM - from 2 GB. The buyer needs to remember that when the tablet is launched, the installed processes instantly occupy about 600 MB of “RAM”. If the tablet has 1 GB of RAM, then only 400 MB remains for user processes - this is enough only to solve the simplest tasks.

For games, it is best to take a gadget with an NVIDIA Tegra processor line - for example, Asus Transformer Prime.

Display: size and resolution

Tablets are available in the following form factors: 7-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch. The device with a 7-inch screen has a compact size and can even fit in the lining of a jacket. It is convenient to use it as an e-book, but not quite for watching movies.

A 10-inch tablet is more suitable for working with multimedia files. However, buying a budget gadget with a large screen is not recommended - for 2 reasons: Firstly, such a tablet can be very bulky and heavy, Secondly, on the display of a cheap device, graininess will certainly be noticeable.

8-inch gadgets are not common. This is a borderline option, which in fact is devoid of the advantages of both of the above. It is worth refraining from buying an 8-inch gadget - especially since the accessories for such a form factor “weep a lot”.

As for the screen resolution, the best option for a 7-inch device is HD (1280×720), for a 10-inch FullHD (1920×1080). Buy tablets with b O higher resolution is meaningless: the user will not notice the difference in image quality, but will suffer from the fact that the gadget is quickly discharged.

If the tablet screen is made using OGS technology (that is, without an air gap) - this is an additional bonus. OGS-screens are notable for their wide viewing angles and excellent color reproduction.

Availability of 3G

It will not be possible to put a SIM card into a tablet that does not support 3G - it will be possible to access the Internet from such a gadget only if there is a connection to a Wi-Fi network. As a rule, Wi-Fi tablets are much cheaper than 3G counterparts. Therefore, for a buyer who intends to use the device mainly at home, it is more profitable to purchase a device without a SIM slot.

If you can put a SIM card in a tablet, this does not mean that you can make calls from it - iPad devices, for example, do not have a call function. Whether a specific tablet model supports the call function needs to be clarified immediately before purchase.

operating system

The following operating systems are installed on modern tablets:

  • iOS. The iOS operating system can only be found on gadgets manufactured by Apple. Its main advantages are stability and high speed. The operating system is simplified as much as possible, and therefore does not require many processor cores and an impressive amount of RAM for correct operation. iOS users can download games and apps from the AppStore - in the summer of 2016, the number of apps in the store exceeded 2 million. The key disadvantage of iOS is its closeness, due to which a novice user may have problems mastering the gadget.
  • Android. This operating system is open. Dealing with it is easy; data from a PC to an Android background can be transferred without the use of additional software - like iTunes for iOS or Zune for Windows Phone 7. The Android application store is called Google Play. There are even more programs and games in it than in the AppStore, but not all of them can boast of decent quality; this is because only authorized Apple developers can place applications on the AppStore, and ordinary programmers on Google Play. Unlike iOS, Android is considered a vulnerable operating system and needs an antivirus.
  • Windows. Our site recently wrote that Windows Phone 8.1 was officially "dead" - the mobile operating system lost support from Microsoft. However, there are a lot of good Windows 10 tablets in 2017 - Microsoft OS gadgets are produced by such large companies as Lenovo, Huawei, Asus. The advantages of the mobile "OS" Windows are considered to be a convenient "tiled" interface, a pre-installed package of full-fledged Office programs and undemanding to the hardware of the gadget. The key disadvantage is the “poverty” of the official Windows Store app store. The last measurement, which took place in the fall of 2015, showed that there were only 669 thousand programs in the Windows Store - by that time there were already 1.5 million applications in the AppStore and Google Play.

Buyers who have experience using Apple technology should prefer a gadget with iOS, it is better for beginners to take a device with a “green robot”. A tablet with Windows 10 is still an option for an amateur; such a device can be advised to "burnt" geeks - to broaden their horizons.

Battery

The capacity of the battery depends on how long the tablet will last without recharging. This parameter should only be considered in conjunction with the performance and display characteristics of the device. A gadget with premium filling and a FullHD display, of course, will consume energy much faster than a budget model. For an inexpensive gadget, on the contrary, a large battery is an unnecessary luxury.

For those who are waiting for specifics, let's clarify: a gadget with a 7-inch screen will have enough batteries with a capacity of 3,500 - 4,000 mAh, a 10-inch tablet needs 5,000 - 7,000 mAh. The battery of 7340 mAh tablet iPad Air 2 was enough for 10 hours of continuous Internet surfing.

cameras

It's naive to expect professional-quality shots from a tablet. Tablets take pictures worse than smartphones - after all, this is not their main function. A feature of tablets is that their front cameras are usually no worse than the rear ones. The quality of the image from the front camera is important - because the user, due to the possible lack of a call function on the tablet, will most likely chat on Skype.

If the back and front cameras of the tablet are capable of boasting a resolution of 5 megapixels, this is more than enough.

What else is worth paying attention to?

When choosing a tablet, the buyer should also pay attention to such minor points:

  • Housing material. Metal tablets are considered more reliable and look much more solid than plastic ones, but they catch Wi-Fi worse. Therefore, if the buyer intends to take a metal tablet, he should take care of 3G support.
  • OTG support. If the tablet is equipped with the On-The-Go (OTG) function, the user will be able to connect a USB flash drive to it and import / export documents literally on the go.
  • Stylus support. With the help of a stylus, it will be much more convenient and pleasant for the user to work with graphics. This material tells about the best tablets with a stylus.
  • Expandable memory. The amount of internal memory of the device is not so important if the memory can be expanded with a MicroSD flash drive. It is not difficult to buy such a flash drive now - they are sold for next to nothing.
  • GPS support /GLONASS. If the tablet is able to receive information from satellite systems, it is just right to upload the car navigator to Avito - the mobile device will cope with laying the route just as well.

Conclusion

Going to the store for a tablet, the buyer must clearly understand how he will use the mobile device. To check mail and VK “at home”, an option with Wi-Fi is suitable, but for work it is better to take a gadget that supports 3G. A Wi-Fi tablet is cheaper, but once it's out of range, many of its useful features become unavailable.

Answering a question for yourself WiFi or 3G, the buyer should pay attention to the performance and display characteristics of the device. By purchasing a 4-core device with 2 GB of RAM and a Full HD display, the user will hardly experience any inconvenience while surfing the Internet.

Modern tablets have in many ways become a worthy alternative to a laptop. Devices can perform basic tasks that most users need. A variety of devices are on sale. They differ in technical characteristics, appearance and cost, which allows everyone to buy the most optimal option for their purposes.

Advantages of "pills"

The tablet refers to mobile touch devices designed to work with multimedia, view video files, web pages, read and perform other "small" tasks. It cannot completely replace a desktop computer or laptop, but it copes with simple functions by 5+. The key benefits are:

    tablets are much more compact, easily fit in a purse, which simplifies their transportation along with overall laptops;

    does not need a long load - it turns on quickly and is ready for full-fledged work in a minute;

    convenient control is provided by a touch screen, on which you can swipe your fingers or a stylus;

    demonstrates excellent performance of battery life. With active use, the tablet will hold a charge for at least half a day;

modern gadgets are equipped with additional useful features: camera, navigator, accelerometer, etc. It is possible to buy a tablet with any functions the user needs.

It remains only to choose the right Tablet in accordance with your own financial preferences, as well as the requirements for the functionality of the device.

Devices for every taste

The Aporta catalog contains various tablets from popular manufacturers. Using the filter functionality, you can sort products and compare suitable models. Cost options will help you choose the most profitable seller. Choose the device you like, go to the online store and place an order.

Tablets have never been able to become PC killers. Statistics show that their sales volumes have been declining for several years in a row. Although manufacturers are making various attempts to revive interest in this segment of portable devices, they do not fundamentally correct the situation. In the context of the current crisis, most domestic consumers are interested in affordable and practical solutions, which has not been slow to affect the popularity of nameplate brands. But since the review deals with the best firms, manufacturers tablets, trademarks Digma, Irbis, bb-mobile Techno and the like, whose rating in Russia is quite high, are not presented in our review.

APPLE

Occupying the first place in the world market in terms of sales, the company from Cupertino in Russia was only the third in 2014, and in subsequent years it did not fall into the number of leaders at all. Of course, it's not about the quality of products under the Apple brand - there are just a few claims against the trendsetter and the manufacturer of the first commercially successful tablet. The main complaints are related to the stubborn reluctance of Californians to equip mobile devices with memory card slots and high prices for Apple tablets. It is the last factor that became decisive in shaping the preferences of domestic buyers in a crisis. Apple has no budget offers, and the iPad model (2017) belongs to the conditionally middle class. It is noteworthy that the company decided to simplify the range of its lines and instead of the serial number of the generation, the year of release is now added to the name of the model range.

Presentation of the new iPad Pro at WWDC 2017

A feature of all the company's tablets is the classic 4: 3 form factor and the "Retina" criterion, which determines the pixel density that is indistinguishable by the human eye at a typical screen distance. Watching movies on any iPad is not very convenient, but Apple has never emphasized the multimedia nature of using its devices, and for many other tasks, a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio is less practical.

Pictured is an Apple iPad Pro tablet

The top-level segment is represented by updated iPad Pro models. Unfortunately, Apple decided to surpass the economy demonstrated a little earlier by Microsoft, and the delivery of these tablets does not even include a stylus, not to mention a keyboard case.

Conclusion: Apple is one of the best tablet manufacturers, but not everyone can afford such a tablet.

SAMSUNG

Recently, the South Korean industry giant has also simplified the range of its tablets to the limit. If two or three years ago, market experts noted incomprehensible internal competition among some Samsung lines, now the entire range is limited to the Tab S3 flagships and Tab A devices of a conditionally average level. In the process of such a reorganization of the tablet series, interesting solutions with the Note stylus were lost somewhere and Note Pro, the development of protected Tab Active models has practically “withered away”, and updating the budget line of Tab E is unlikely. The company once again revised the concept of positioning its devices and now the 4: 3 aspect ratio of the screen relies on the flagships, and devices of a lower class are again focused on convenient playback of multimedia content.

Samsung promised to release such a tablet with a folding display back in 2016.

Among Samsung's offerings, flagship tablets and the latest 8-inch Tab A model are of the greatest interest. The former are equipped with high-quality AMOLED screens, in which the manufacturer is the undisputed market leader. The second is interesting as an inexpensive solution for all family members, including children. Perhaps the update of the rest of the series will be announced at the upcoming MWC 2018, but so far it is only known about the company's plans to introduce the next Tab S there.

Conclusion:Samsung tablets are quite popular in Russia. But, compared to the smartphones of the same manufacturer, they look like a poor relative. Almost constantly, when developing a new model, the company's specialists choose for it not the most modern hardware platform, which is necessarily inferior to the solution used in a smartphone of the corresponding class.

Lenovo

Despite the long-term stable decline in consumer interest in tablets in general, the popularity and sales of the products of this Chinese tech giant are constantly growing. And both in quantitative terms and in monetary terms. Actually, if you look at the variety of Lenovo tablet lineups, there is nothing surprising in this fact. The range covers almost all possible niches, and the company offers solutions not only on the Android operating system, but also on the Windows platform. For the classic form factor, Lenovo is now responsible for the Tab 4 family, in which most of the 8-inch and 10-inch models compare favorably with direct competitors with the power of the filling.

On the photo Lenovo Miix 510

Hybrid devices from the Miix line can easily adapt to any tasks, whose removable keyboard does not interfere with the use of such devices for entertainment purposes. Again, "serious guys" do not have entry-level solutions (like Miix 320), and "players" simply do not aim at the professional segment, where a large screen size and really powerful processors rule the ball, like the five hundredth series.

The photo shows a tablet with a Lenovo Yoga Tablet 3 PRO projector.

Yoga Tablets have not gone anywhere, instantly attracting attention with their unique design. Finally, a couple of "yogis" got a keyboard, but not a simple one, but a touch one. If you want - work with the text, there is a need - turn off the backlight and use it as a digitizer.

Conclusion: Lenovo is one of the best tablet companies in the world. Last but not least, this was made possible thanks to an impressive range of budget devices, as well as tablets in the Lower Mid-End segment.

ASUS

A sad sight is the current range of classic Taiwanese tablets. If earlier the manufacturer lured potential buyers with an abundance of various modifications and affordable prices, now the company is strictly pragmatic - almost in the only position in the main segments (and even not in all). In addition, some devices are simply not to be found in the domestic retail network. In particular, the really cool 8-inch ZenPad 3S (Z582KL). Nevertheless, when choosing a tablet from ASUS, you still have to literally read every letter of the model designation, because the difference between the versions can be soooo. For example, between Z301ML and Z301MFL.

Pictured is ASUS ZenPad 3S 8 (Z582KL)

Apparently, the opinion of market analysts that the company decided to focus on hybrid solutions is true. At least, this category of tablets from ASUS is much more complete. The only pity is that some new items take so long to reach the windows of our stores. The relatively inexpensive high-performance Transformer Pro T304 was announced at the beginning of 2017, and it is very problematic to buy it a year later. At the same time, the “freshest” Mini T103HAF is already actively offered.

On the photo ASUS Transformer Pro T304

Conclusion: ASUS tablets are no longer pleasing to the eye with a wide variety, but still make you strain when choosing the right device, since the characteristics of individual models may differ radically.

MICROSOFT

The company specializes in large-format devices with a diagonal of 10 inches. Of course, they are all equipped with the Windows operating system.

Photo: www.howtablet.ru

There is also a tablet hanging on the wall. This is an 84-inch Microsoft Surface Hub.

Such devices are not widely popular, but they occupy approximately 5 percent of the market share. The main buyers of Windows tablets are fans of the OS or users who have a good idea of \u200b\u200bwhat they need and what price (in every sense) they will have to pay.

There are simply no devices of the budget and middle price segments among the tablets of the Redmond corporation.

For all tablets, the aspect ratio of 3: 2 is maintained, which is also a "trick" of the company. Compared to the 4:3 form factor, this screen aspect ratio is much better suited for watching movies. On the other hand, products from the Microsoft Device division are equipped with responsive displays designed for efficient use of styluses. The latest generation of Surface Pen recognizes 4098 pressure levels and senses tilt. Actually, this is one of the main differences from the "four", not counting the updated hardware platform. Completely turn your tablet into a versatile mini-PC with a keyboard case.

Pictured Microsoft Surface Studio

If you work professionally with digital graphics, you can not do without specialized tools. Among the corporation's offerings is a corresponding all-in-one solution called Surface Studio. In a certain sense, this product can be considered as an interactive graphics tablet giant.

Conclusion. If you do not take into account the high cost, then the main drawback of Microsoft tablets is still a poor assortment of Windows touch software.

Huawei

Huawei released its first MediaPad tablet back in 2012 and it was one of the best available solutions at that time. In fact, this model is still on sale.

Joint mobile exhibition of MegaFon and Huawei in Irkutsk.

Having introduced several lightweight modifications to the market and deciding to develop success, the manufacturer divided the series into specialized lines: budget (T), multimedia (M) and premium class (X). The first one consists of devices with a maximum screen resolution of 1280×800, is made without any bells and whistles, and for the complete happiness of the owners, it lacks only more memory. The lines have grown to the third generation and, in the process of development, “lost” the flagship. Rather, the second one first “caught up” with it in terms of characteristics, then forced it out, and at the end it again divided into two families M3 and M3 Lite. A feature of Huawei multimedia tablets is an excellent acoustic subsystem, which Harman / Kardon specialists helped the company develop.

Pictured Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10

What else is remarkable about Mediapads from Huawei is the presence of an actual "children's" mode. Moreover, the company even produces a special version of the 7-inch tablet, equipped with a thick silicone bumper with a comfortable grip. But hybrid devices from the manufacturer once ... and miscalculated. Nevertheless, now it ranks 4th-5th in Russia in terms of tablet sales.

Conclusion: Huawei makes great tablets, but there are almost no models with a keyboard and Windows OS (MateBook is the one and only).

DELL

This company is one of the main IT-manufacturers for the corporate sector, and therefore its tablet solutions are of the appropriate level. DELL currently has two lineups of tablets and a dedicated digital art work surface. Unlike Microsoft's closely related studio, the DELL Canvas product is designed to be connected to a PC.

DELL Canvas Graphic Studio at CES 2017

Serious people take information security very seriously, and the Latitude 5285 series tablets are ready to offer all the necessary tools for this. There may be several options for user authentication alone. The 7285 line is much simpler in this sense, and its “trick” is the wireless way to charge the battery. This possibility appears in the presence of a special keyboard unit and the corresponding station-stand.

DELL Latitude 7285 on wireless charging station

But that's not all. For the Latitude 7285 tablet, there are a couple of other compatible keyboards - with an extra battery or extremely thin.

Conclusion: DELL tablets are quite good, business-oriented and sometimes have unique features.

Which brand of tablet is better?

In the context of a decline in demand and the struggle for a buyer, the question “Which company’s tablet is better - Lenovo, Samsung, Apple or other industry leaders?” There is no definite answer - all well-known manufacturers produce high-quality and interesting products. Each of them has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the choice of the best tablet is up to you. Decide what you expect from the device - reliability, prestige, appearance, high-quality screen, good camera, ability to work with documents, security, affordable price? And choose the tablet of the company that produces models that meet your requirements.

We add that one of the modern vectors for the development of tablets is the hybridization of their design. Keyboard covers, multifunctional docking stations, styluses with a large number of registered pressure levels and positions in space are now presented as a necessary component and a sign of the correct evolution. But if you remember that the ideology of exclusively touch control of the device was laid in the first tablets, you get a break in the pattern.

Comparing tablets is always useful and new knowledge that can later help in choosing one or another device. The test itself is a very exciting, but at the same time time-consuming process, during which the tablets are compared with each other on various factors: size, OS, display, and others.

These review tests help identify the weaknesses and strengths of each individual device, such as:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab Active;
  • ASUS Transformer Book T90 Chi;
  • Lenovo Tab 2 A7-30.

Design and general outline

Let's start with the appearance, because many users still prefer to choose a device by design.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active

At the first glance, you understand that it is very difficult for a Korean manufacturer to move away from their habits. That's why the very familiar features of other flagship devices are visible, but at the same time it retains its own, clearly built design line.

The tablet is made in accordance with the IP67 standard, which implies protection against moisture and dust. But at the same time, the presence of open ports, at least with stubs, remains very strange. The placement of elements is standard for the Galaxy line.

The gadget itself is in a protective case, which is made in an aggressive and uncharacteristic style for Samsung. I was very pleased with the presence of a magnetic connector for charging - this is, so to speak, a brick for the future.

At the top of the case, you can find a stylus that does not carry any functional load, but is used for normal interaction.

The battery is removable, under the cover there is also a slot for a flash card and a SIM card. This is a tablet with a good margin of safety and at an affordable average price.

Hybrid from Asus

The test of this device showed that Asus likes to experiment and it does it well. The non-standard dimensions of the device and the pre-installed Windows 8.1 made an extraordinary sensation.

The display of the gadget is protected by glass and has a fairly wide border, especially in the upper and lower parts. In principle, the tablet is very comfortable to hold even with one hand. On the reverse side, we have a typical “tablet”, but with a metal case, which is emphasized by a chamfer.

The presence of a docking station and additional connectors greatly expands the capabilities of the device. Modern design, excellent equipment - everything you need for a successful businessman. However, the test for viewing angles due to the strange weight distribution (350 grams of station and 400 grams of device), the gadget in question failed.

Practical Lenovo

Lenovo is also trying its hand at various form factors. If you look at the tests of previous lines, you can see how creative the designers are from the manufacturer. This time they decided to get off with an even rectangular shape with slightly rounded corners.

The back panel is covered with a black matte cover, which, unfortunately, collects all prints. In principle, the assembly is at a high level, but occasionally you can hear a slight creak.

The placement of controls for Lenovo is basically standard, and even if the ports are not in their place, this does not affect the overall ergonomics of the tablet.

Software

Now let's compare tablet computers by operating systems, because they represent two of the most popular platforms on the world market at once. What will the test show?

Lenovo Software

Gone are the days when major manufacturers used pure Android without any add-ons. Recently, the so-called launchers are gaining rapid popularity.

Launcher is a graphical shell that is designed to improve the user interface and significantly expand the capabilities of the device. Lenovo comes pre-installed with Android 4.4 with a proprietary Launcher HD shell, upgraded to version 1.4.5.

Settings menu

The shell works quickly, without brakes, and most importantly, it pleases the user with an abundance of various settings. Numerous third-party tests have shown that this is one of the most successful launchers to date.

Windows tablet

A lot has already been said and described about the Windows 8.1 operating system, which has become a logical continuation of the G8, but with bugs already fixed and various additions.

The advantages of tablets running full-fledged Windows over android gadgets are obvious. Despite the rapid development of the android platform, most powerful programs that are used in all areas of human activity are released specifically for Windows.

Therefore, you can run popular and already familiar applications without any problems, as long as they are optimized for touch control. Unfortunately, a hit-and-miss system sometimes crashes, and poorly optimized processors don't perform well during pre-tests.

Shell from Samsung

The South Korean manufacturer, like many other companies, decided to promote its own custom shell, starting with version 4 of Android.

Recall that the Galaxy Tab Active is preinstalled with Android 4.4 with a proprietary interface - TouchWiz, which supports working with two active programs at once. Moreover, the size of the windows can be changed depending on the needs of the user.

It is worth noting a rare but noticeable slowdown of the shell, unfortunately, this is a characteristic drawback of Samsung products, which for some reason is not eliminated.

The tablet did not receive such software variety as the flagships, despite the presence of a stylus. Therefore, such a device is more suitable for industrial use:

  • Create note and pivot table;
  • Calculate dimensions on the go;
  • Familiarize yourself with technical literature and more.

Display

A high-quality matrix with excellent resolution is the key to comfortable work on the tablet. After all, it has long been no secret that computer radiation, especially from displays, negatively affects the eyes, and they need to be protected.

Immutable Principles

A huge amount of unflattering reviews rained down on Samsung about the use of outdated matrices. Many manufacturers are already switching to a higher quality resolution, and the South Koreans remain faithful to the resolution of 1280x800.

Between the 8-inch matrix and the glass itself there is no air gap, due to this, a greater brightness and clarity of the displayed image is achieved. The auto-brightness sensor is good and working properly.

The tablet has excellent viewing angles, ie. PLS or IPS matrix is used - the manufacturer did not specify. The picture looks natural, the colors are reproduced well, the test shows that the matrix has been thoroughly calibrated.

Bad Choice

Lenovo surprised even more and installed an IPS matrix with a resolution of 1024x600 on a 7-inch device. For the current year, it is considered not only bad, but very bad. But at the same time, there is no air gap, which is insignificant, but compensates for such an unsuccessful choice.

The pixel grid is visible to the naked eye, there is no light sensor, and during outdoor use, colors fade dramatically, as shown in the image above. When comparing tablets, this fact turned out to be the biggest drawback: not all users will like the low resolution.

Standard Solution

The Asus Book T90 Chi tablet is equipped with an 8.9-inch matrix with a standard, but unfortunately, low resolution of 1280 × 800, which fades very much against the background of flagship devices. As in previous models, there is no air gap, due to this, excellent viewing angles and good color reproduction are achieved.

The owner can independently adjust the brightness or rely entirely on the pre-installed sensor and auto-detection system.

As practice shows, the sensors work normally in constant light, if you move, you will notice a slight flicker.

Specifications

This is one of the most exciting stages of the review and comparison of devices, during which all the functionality of the tablet is revealed. It immediately becomes clear how long the tablet will remain relevant.

Average performance

Despite its security, the Galaxy Tab Active lags far behind its closest competitors, and this is a big minus.

Flagships of 2014

7-8" are very popular. They are convenient to take on the road, they fit freely in a handbag, they are easy to hold and read in the subway. A typical example is the popular .

The next common format is . This is a convenient option for home use: watching movies, games, developing activities with a child. Let's take as an example. Apple tablets with a diagonal of 9.7 "and an aspect ratio of 3: 4 stand apart, for example, .

Before buying, pay attention to the weight: it is more convenient to carry and hold in your hands all the time, a lot of weight can become a hindrance.

Windows for tablets is no different from what is installed on stationary PCs and laptops. This is a big plus if you need to synchronize work with an office or home computer running Windows. The file format will be exactly the same, copy and go. But to work comfortably with Windows, the tablet must be powerful, so they are quite expensive. Often Windows-tablets are produced in the form of transformers.

Hardware stuffing

The speed of multimedia applications and the operating system as a whole depends on the power of the processor and the amount of RAM. A dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM are enough to perform basic tasks. And for games and other "heavy" applications, it is better to take a model with at least four cores and 2 GB of RAM.

The number of cores or the clock speed of the processor does not always reflect the real state of affairs. When choosing a tablet, it is better to focus on testing indicators using benchmark programs, for example, AnTuTu.

To fit a solid collection of music, videos and photos in your device, you need a lot of memory, it is advisable to buy. Well, if .

Most tablets support OTG technology: through a special adapter, you can connect an external USB drive to the device. Do not forget about cloud storage, you can also place part of the data there.

Battery and operating time

Battery capacity determines how long you can watch movies, listen to music, play games and surf the Internet. For long work, choose models with a capacity of 8000 mAh.

However, energy costs also depend on processor power, screen resolution and type, OS, and so on. Therefore, two different tablets with the same battery capacity can work without recharging for different times.

It is good if the operating time of the device without recharging is 6 hours or more in the mode of active use of Wi-Fi.

Communications

Almost all modern tablets with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support. A lot, but for now it's optional. 3G and 4G technologies support fast data transfer via cellular networks. Unfortunately, the coverage of networks supporting these technologies in Russia still leaves much to be desired.

NFC technology allows you to exchange data between two devices that are up to 10 cm apart. With its help, for example, you can make contactless mobile payments, buy tickets in public transport. But NFC is more useful in phones than in bulky tablets.

The GPS function is useful for drivers who want to use the tablet in the car as a navigator. determines its location through the satellite system, and the user can see the mark on the map. If the device has an A-GPS system installed, the system starts much faster, in just 10-20 seconds. Without A-GPS, it will take from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

Some tablet models can work as cell phones, but not all. If it's important, check if this feature is available before purchasing.

Now almost all screens are capacitive, there is practically no choice. They feel even a light touch with a finger. True, with ordinary gloves, it will no longer be possible to control the tablet. We need special ones with a conductive cloth on the fingertips.

If you need a tablet for drawing and drawing, then it is better to choose a model for which the manufacturer produces special conductive styluses. You can’t draw even thin lines, and they can determine the force of pressing by changing the thickness of the stroke.

Even with the help of a stylus, it is convenient to take handwritten notes, for example, write down abstracts at a meeting or ideas that come to mind.
