DIY tool case made of wood. We make a tool box with our own hands. Portable tool box

Life of the present home handyman inconceivable without large quantity manual and mechanical assistants used for processing wood, metal, and performing various types of work. Various devices are used to store tools industrial production And self-made. Among the most common storage and carrying methods special place occupy tool boxes.

For self-creation similar products can be used lumber or artificial wood materials– Chipboard, plywood or OSB boards.

Execution Process similar product allows you to get a container for the size of specific tools, in contrast to purchased ready-made boxes. Below, readers will be offered a description of the sequence of work for the manufacture of such boxes.

The product shown below can be used for temporary storage and transport of some tools to the job site.

Or office supplies, which are often found wide application when performing markings.

Making a box will require the preparation of the following materials:

  • softwood or hardwood board with a thickness of 20 x 100 x 850 mm.
  • round wooden rod with a diameter of 20 and a length of 260 mm;
  • wood screws – 8 pcs. 32 mm long;
  • wood glue;
  • sandpaper.

The tools you need to prepare are a ruler, a pencil, a jigsaw, a drill, a screwdriver and a grinder of any kind.

We begin the work by marking the parts. To do this, on the prepared planed board we apply the contours of future parts - the end and side walls, the bottom.

We cut out the parts with a jigsaw, having previously installed a file for a clean cut. The edges and planes of the resulting parts are carefully processed with sandpaper.

IN end walls We mark the center in the center at an equal distance from the bottom edge and drill a blind hole about ten millimeters deep, the diameter of which is equal to the diameter of the round rod. Along the side and bottom edges we drill three through holes with a diameter of 4-5 millimeters for installing screws. In the same way we make two holes in the bottom of the future box.

After preparing the holes, you can begin assembling the product. To ensure maximum strength, apply a thin layer of glue to the edges of the side walls and bottom. Also pre-coat the ends of the round rod with glue.

Install the side walls and the bottom with one of the ends to the figured walls and attach the parts with self-tapping screws. Install the rod into the prepared hole with one of the ends. After this, perform the same operations with the second figured wall. To protect the box material, treat the surfaces with a clear oil- or nitro-based varnish.

The design of the second tool box is more spacious and has larger dimensions compared to the first. To make it, you will need sheets of plywood or OSB boards with a thickness of 15 and 10 millimeters. You also need to prepare the following tools: a ruler and a pencil for marking, a jigsaw for cutting out parts and handles, a screwdriver, self-tapping screws for assembly 30 millimeters long, sandpaper or grinding machine for finishing wetted parts and surfaces of parts.

Product dimensions 600x400x200 millimeters. Inside, at the top of the container, there are two drawers for small parts and tools, glued together from more thin plywood. To fix them, two guides, made in the form of strips no more than three centimeters thick, are attached along the side walls.

We begin the process of making a tool box by marking the parts of the large and small insert boxes. If necessary, each master can vary the expected size of the product depending on the purpose. The marked parts are cut out with a jigsaw and cleaned with sanding paper. The parts of the small boxes are assembled using glue. To better connect the internal walls dividing the space into separate sections, shallow grooves can be made along the thickness of the material. Clamps and other clamping devices will help make gluing work easier.

We assemble the parts of the large box using self-tapping screws. To improve the quality of assembly, insert self-tapping screws into pre-drilled and countersunk holes.

Don't forget to secure two guides parallel to the bottom of the drawer with self-tapping screws, on which small containers will rest.

To make a handle, you can use the option proposed in the design indicated above, or install a round rod on self-tapping screws of sufficient length. A piece of cutting for agricultural implements, which is not difficult to purchase at any hardware store, can be used as a blank for it.

Plywood is not a moisture-resistant material. To protect the product when working outdoors, it is necessary to impregnate all parts of the box with some kind of protective composition, stain or varnish.

Thus, after performing a few simple operations, everyone can make for themselves convenient device for carrying and storing tools. Using such a box will greatly facilitate the process of performing repairs and construction work not only indoors, but also on the territory of the land plot.

  • What kind of box do you need?
  • Preparatory stage;
  • The process of making a box?

Every man living in his own house or apartment from time to time has to perform various household chores, or as a result, over time, the availability of the necessary tools increases more and more and, as a result, it can be quite difficult to store them compactly in one

We cut off the four side walls of the box at an angle.

at the appointed place. And if there is a need to transport and carry them, then without the presence of some kind of box it is quite difficult to do this. Therefore, to create compact place for their storage, convenient transportation and carrying of these tools, on the website page we will tell you how you can make a tool box with your own hands.

We glue construction tape to the outer side of the walls and then apply glue. Photo

What kind of box do you need?

Today in any store selling construction tools or materials will not be difficult to find how necessary tools and materials, as well as a box for compact storage of your tools. Of course, you can purchase such a box, but it will be much more pleasant for any master to use to store his tools in a box that he made himself with his own hands and this will be another important proof of his skill. Before starting production, you need to decide on the appearance, what it will be made of and what kind of material it is needed?

After applying the glue, we fold the walls together and fasten them with tape. Photo

For example: If a toolbox is needed only for rare use at home, then you can get by with a fairly simple option by making a simple box with equipped carrying handle. However, if there is a need to transport a sufficiently large number of tools related to your professional activity, then it would be appropriate to have a fairly large organizer drawer. The decision on its design must be made individually, and when you decide on the design, you can safely proceed to its production.

Preparatory stage

When are you planning to make your own tool box? preparatory stage can be roughly divided into three stages.

Box making process

As an example, let's look at a fairly simple option for creating a tool box. It will be a medium-sized box with an equipped carrying handle. To make it, you can use any material you like, it could be plywood, wooden boards, metal or even plastic. What material it will be made from is up to you to decide, but most often they use wood edged board from coniferous species, since such a board is the most affordable and quite easy to process, and has good qualities.

Let's move on to making a handle for the drawer. Photo

So what to do for the tools wooden box, you must first use a pencil and ruler to transfer the drawing prepared in advance onto the material used. Next, use a jigsaw or hacksaw to cut out these components. At simple version components You should have 5 pieces, this is the bottom and 4 side walls, which in the future need to be fastened together.

We mark grooves on the side posts of the handles, then drill holes and cut them out with a jigsaw. Photo

It should be noted! The joints of these components must be thoroughly cleaned and processed, after which they are fastened together using wood glue. After applying the glue, all components must be pressed tightly together and left in this form until the glue dries. Once the glue dries, for a stronger and better connection, you need to additionally fasten all the components together using self-tapping screws or nails.

We try to connect the stand and the handle. Photo

Next, all that remains is to attach the handles. At this point, the manufacturing process is practically completed; the manufactured tool box can only be sanded, impregnated with an impregnating composition and varnished, for more aesthetically pleasing and protecting wood from moisture.

We drill blind holes in the side posts to attach them at the bottom and top of the tool box box, for which we use a depth stop for the drill. Photo

In conclusion, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that this option for making a tool box with your own hands is the simplest, so making it yourself will not be difficult for any beginner.

After applying the glue and installing the caps in the right places We connect all the parts of the tool box by pressing them with clamps. Photo
After the glue has dried, we proceed to the manufacture and installation of the side panel for the drawer. Photo

The following elements were produced in the process:

  1. Two long side boards of the box measuring 450x200mm;
  2. Two short side boards measuring 300x200mm;
  3. For the handle there are two support rods 430x65 mm;
  4. One handle 490x60mm;
  5. Bottom 426x246mm;
  6. One tool holder with holes measuring 426x60mm.

The material used was birch plywood 10mm thick.

Big and convenient drawer for tools - the dream of any master. This is understandable, because in such storage you can compactly put all your tools. Today they are not so expensive, so one of the options is to purchase them in a store or create such a masterpiece yourself. Which option will be acceptable for you? Of course, the purchased one has certain dimensions, but there may be many more tools than can fit in it. But one way or another, you will have to put up with it or run to the store again and buy a new one. It’s a completely different matter to do it yourself: pick up required material and calculated for all available tools and even with the future. Comfortable? Most likely, you will agree with this argument. Therefore, in this article we will talk about how to make such a box yourself at home.

What should HE be like?

If this is a home box, then it can be a regular box with a handle. Well, if you, for example, are a plumber, then it is clear that you will need a box that is more functional, spacious and durable. The organizer will successfully fulfill this role. However, in this article, as an example, we will consider a simple home option- box with handle. So, we will assume that we have decided on the type of box where we will keep all the tools we need, or almost all.

Where do we start? First, let's select the material. It could be plywood, wood or even metal, then we will make the calculations. Only after this can you begin to draw up a detailed drawing. It can be done in the classic way, that is, on whatman paper using a well-sharpened pencil, ruler, compass, square, etc.

The non-classical method is using a special computer program. “Autocad” and “Compass” are precisely “sharpened” to make a professional, accurate drawing. The advantage of such programs is that they will help you avoid errors in calculations and, moreover, you have the opportunity to see in advance what you will get from all this.

These programs will serve good service only if you have certain skills in working with them.

The material has been selected, and now for manufacturing it remains to assemble all the tools that we will need. Of course, the types of tools are individual. It all depends on what kind of box you want. They are also different. But, one way or another, there are universal tools. They are always needed. This is the measuring tool:

  • fasteners;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver.

Let's start production

Let's take it traditional material– edged softwood board. As for processing, this is the simplest and available material, which also has good strength properties.

As planned, it will be a wooden box, and our task now is to materialize the drawing itself into material. For this task we will need a ruler and a pencil. After this, we mark the material and use a hacksaw or jigsaw to cut out the component parts of the product. If we planned a regular non-closing option, then we need to make five planes: four walls and a bottom.

When assembling, it is usually better to use wood glue. The joints must be cleaned, and only then glue must be applied, after which we firmly press the parts together. Be sure to let the glue dry completely.

After this operation, we can further strengthen the box with fasteners - self-tapping screws. Secured. Now you need to make a handle. It could be ordinary wooden slats, which we need to nail or screw to top faces side elements.

Organizer

Following the principle “from simple to complex,” let’s now talk about the organizer. It is clear that you can put a large tool in the open-top box described above: hand saw, hammer, mallet and much, much more.

Where do you put the little things? There are all sorts of screws, bolts, nuts, etc. These small fasteners tend to get lost or not be there exactly at the moment when they are especially needed. This is where we need an organizer.

As already noted, this type of box by its design is the most functional in operation. What is he? This is kind of like a box on a box, or rather, many drawers in one section for storing not only medium-sized tools, but also all sorts of small things. Of course, at first glance, it may seem that making such a structure would not be easy. But it only seems. Difficulties mainly arise in the manufacture of the sliding mechanism. Everything else is much easier to do. Now in more detail about the manufacturing technology.

  1. We start by making the main body. It must be open and deep in order for us to place various instrument medium-sized (hammers, spanners etc.). We can say that the design of this main body is quite simple, but in essence it is regular box, which can be divided into several sections using vertical planes.
  2. The next stage is the production of 4 smaller boxes. You probably noticed that the number of these sections is even, and we mentally divide them into pairs, trying to adhere to the dimensions of their lower large brother when manufacturing. They will be installed on top of each other. One pair of boxes (top) will have lids. They will either be folding on piano hinges, or retractable like a Soviet school pencil case.
  3. Now all that remains is to connect these boxes together. We will do this using metal connecting strips. We will need 6 pieces. On one side, as well as on the other side, we hook one plate at a time (short) to connect the two lower boxes - small and large. Two more plates (long) will connect all the boxes together. And finally, the longest bar will serve as a handle, and at the same time connect the two upper floors of the organizer. As you can see, there is nothing complicated here, and sliding mechanism simplified to the extreme, as illustrated by the example of a metal organizer - the principle is the same.

Making a metal case for tools

Let's talk now about the metal case homemade. Don't immediately conclude that this is impossible. Of course, only an experienced mechanic can make his own organizer out of metal, and if he has the special tools and related material. Factory-made metal boxes are usually made of lightweight metals such as aluminum so that the box itself is not heavy. Working with aluminum at home is difficult.

In principle, a metal box is a strong word. Rather, an ordinary box will be made of metal. The material needed to make such a box is ordinary soft galvanized steel (about 0.3 mm thick). The tools we need are:

  • square;
  • caliper (marking);
  • sharpened small core or marker;
  • ruler;
  • hammer;
  • anvil (wide metal bar);
  • file;
  • pliers.

Then everything follows the same scenario: drawing, marking. The most interesting thing is that all this can be done directly on a galvanized sheet using a sharply sharpened core (or marker), however you like. We then mark with a marker on the metal those places that we will have to remove.

After this, we proceed to trimming using metal scissors.

After cutting off all the excess we end up with something like this: geometric figure(“winged rectangle”).

Now let's work a little as blacksmiths. For this task, we have an anvil, and, tapping with a hammer, we carefully bend the edges of our workpiece. It is better to do this not chaotically, but in a certain order.

First we bend one side, and then we bend the other.

Now the side panels take turns.

After this, we will start bending the protruding petals. They will make the structure itself more rigid, and it will not “play.”

We can use pliers to wrap the protruding parts on the top of the box.

After such manipulations, you should carefully go over the entire product with a hammer, straightening it.

IN in this case it turned out to be a small box. But using this principle, you can make a similar one - larger, and in the end you will get a metal tool box like this.

So, if you want, everything is possible.

We hope that this article will be useful to you, dear readers. If your tools are organized, then complement it by making a regular tool box. If your tools do not have a permanent “place of residence,” then think about building a two- or even three-story “transformable house” for it. Try to do this, and your tool will always be in place, and you yourself will be pleased to use a product you made yourself in your household.

See how you can make tool organizer cases yourself:

Hello everybody!

Today, a tool box is a very indispensable thing for every owner. Most of us have a lot of different tools that we may not use very often, but nevertheless we keep them, since more than one repair cannot be done without them. To ensure that the tool is in one place and convenient to transport, we use special boxes. Often we simply buy them at the nearest store; the range and variety allows us to do this. But why not make it yourself? The manufacturing process is not too complicated, anyone should be able to do it, especially with something made with their own hands, which is much more pleasant to use than a purchased version. This article will describe 4 different ways manufacturing of boxes, photo report attached.

Let's start making!

Manufacturing method No. 1

We will need:

Material

Plywood;
- pine board;
- nails;
- wood glue.

Tool

- drill;
- hammer;
- chisel;
- manual frezer;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette.

The first thing you need to do is find required material, plywood or cutting boards are suitable for this. Next, according to the presented drawing, you need to make markings, then cut out all the parts of the body. It is necessary to make special grooves in which the partition will be placed; for this we use a hand router or other available tool.

The diagram shows the following body parts:

1 - wall (2 pcs.);
2 - sidewall (2 pcs.);
3 - bottom;
4 - groove along the thickness of the partition and a depth of 1/2–1/3 of the thickness of the material

When everything is ready, all elements of the box body should be sanded. Next, we assemble the body together, fix the parts with wood glue, and then additionally fasten them with small nails.

Now we make a partition for the drawer, cut out a special handle, and use a jigsaw for this.

When the partition is ready, lubricate the grooves with wood glue and install it in its place.

Next, we make overhead handles from the planks and round the corners using a planer. Then we make tool holders from the slats, use a jigsaw and a drill. The holes will serve as screwdrivers, and the square cutouts will accommodate pliers, etc. tool.

To ensure that the box does not get dirty and there is protection from environment, coat the surface with varnish. As a result of the work done, we get this homemade box.

Manufacturing method No. 2

Box-stool

Material

Plywood or OSB;
- wooden beam;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue.

Tool

Available cutting tools;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette.

We take an existing sheet of plywood, make markings on it, and according to the presented dimensions, cut out the cover (Fig. 1), then the longitudinal drawers (Fig. 2) and the sides (Fig. 3).

Next, we take a wooden beam with a cross-section of 40x50 mm, cut out a handle, and 4 legs with bevels at the ends at an angle of 15°.

Next, we assemble the structure together, using self-tapping screws as fixing elements.

Parts layout:

1 - cover;
2 - drawer;
3 - handle;
4 - leg;
5 - sidewall.

When everything is ready, use sandpaper or a sanding machine to round off sharp corners and clean the surface. Next, you can apply a protective coating.

The end result should be such an unusual tool box, which, if necessary, can be transformed into a regular stool, to do this, just turn it over and put it on its legs, with the help of it it will be convenient to reach the place we need, at a time when height does not allow do this.

Manufacturing method No. 3.

Box for a young master.

Does your child love to make things? We suggest making a small box with him where he will store his favorite instrument.

To make a box with your own hands we will need the following

Material

16 mm boards;
- round wooden beam;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue.

Tool

Available cutting tools;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette;
- clamps.

First, we need to take existing boards with a cross-section of 16 mm, then we make markings according to the provided dimensions, after which we cut the wood into the component parts we need.

The drawing shows the following details:

1 - sidewall;
2 - bottom;
3 - handle;
4 - handle stand;
5 - holder.

Using sandpaper, sand the surface and remove sharp corners. When everything is ready, we begin to connect all the parts together, first we need to connect the bottom and sides, then we place along the marked lines vertical racks and at the same time place the horizontal handle.

We fix everything with glue and screws. Then we install special holders for screwdrivers.

Now you can paint, choose the color and coating at your discretion.

The toolbox is ready.

Manufacturing method No. 4

The next version of the tool box is well suited for carrying various equipment that we need, it appearance will be distinguished by solidity and reliability.

To make a box with your own hands we will need the following

Material

The board is no thicker than 12 mm;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue;
- pen;
- corners 8 pcs.;
- latch 2 pcs.;
- loop 2 pcs.

Tool

Available cutting tools;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette;
- clamps.

To make the box we use wood such as pine, linden or poplar. Most optimal thickness the boards will be 12 mm thick.

Next, we make markings according to the dimensions indicated in the drawings, after which we cut them into component parts, as shown in the photo.

The entire list of required parts.

In order to make sure that the wood was cut correctly, you need to put all the parts in a single box.

First, we assemble the bottom part and lid of the box; for convenience, we use clamps and corner clamps. We fix the parts together with wood glue.

Then, using a drill, we drill a hole for the screws and countersink the holes.

There are many professions that use different kinds tools. Most often, tool boxes are purchased to store them, but sometimes it’s easier to make high-quality storage with your own hands

If you are interested in this or that type of craft, and you don’t sit at home with your hands folded, naturally, you collect a fairly large number of tools. To ensure that your tools are always at hand and securely stored, they need to be provided with a safety system in the form of a separate closed space called a box for storing tools. In addition to safety, the use of such a box will greatly help in your work, since the contents will be neatly sorted into compartments and in the future you can find the necessary device “blindly”. This device is also needed by car owners, or rather by owners of trucks and gazelles. The box must be well secured in the car. This means that when making it with your own hands, you need to think carefully about where it will be located in the car and how to secure it there.

Decide on two criteria:

  • Will you only store tools in it, or do you also need it for ease of transportation?
  • What sizes of tools do you plan to store in it?

Classification of boxes

Based on body material:

  • plastic – light in weight, convenient to use and for transportation;
  • metal - much heavier than plastic, but at the same time much stronger, more stable, have a more rigid structure, cannot be large sizes due to the heaviness of the metal;
  • metal-plastic galvanized - light, durable and spacious, suitable for both storage and transportation professional tools. But all these advantages also determine the corresponding price - it can range from $150 to $500 and above.
  • wooden - the most affordable material for making a tool box. Moreover, it is easier to make with your own hands from this material, or rather from plywood 10 16 or 18 mm.

By type of stored instruments:

  • hand tools - as a rule, they are represented by one large compartment for large tools (screwdrivers, hammers, keys) and 2-3 small ones for smaller tools;

  • An electric tool is a case that is functionally designed to store and move a specific power tool. Most often it has one main compartment for the device itself and several recesses for equipment.
  • organizers are boxes designed to accommodate a large number of tools of various sizes. They have many compartments; models with modular partitions, which can be rearranged from one place to another for the convenience of the owner, deserve attention.
  • professional tool – special kind cases with certain seats for specific tools that are more resistant to drops and adverse environmental conditions.
  • non-professional tools - are boxes of both small and quite large sizes with many compartments and niches for various kinds of tools, often these are cases in the form of bags.

There are many tool box manufacturing companies such as stanley,fit– American companies, keter– no less popular Israeli company, Spanish company tayg, German Croft and many others, differing in quality and price of products.

As an alternative to all these companies, there is the opportunity to make a tool box with your own hands. This way you can save on cost and get a very competitive option that meets your exact requirements.

Types of boxes

DIY tool boxes are mostly made from wood and come in a variety of shapes. Boxes are popular and easy to make classic shape- “basket”. in second and third place - a box in the shape of a chest - a container, and in the form of a case.

Materials for making a tool box

  • wooden boards 15-25 mm thick
  • round wooden rod of the required length
  • self-tapping screws, wood glue, sandpaper for cleaning surfaces
  • set of tools - Sander, electric drill, jigsaw, screwdriver
  • measuring instruments - ruler
  • screwdriver, hammer

Manufacturing stages

Using this technology it is possible to produce boxes more complex structures, creating the required number of compartments and niches through partitions.

Using the same technology, it is possible to produce a closed box, which is more reliable and convenient for transporting tools.

Additional steps in making a box with a lid

For self-production of the now popular transformable boxes You'll have to rack your brains more, but it's quite possible to implement this idea.

To do this using computer programs you need to develop the design you want, and a set of necessary elements that can be purchased in special stores will help you bring it into reality. The number and complexity of the selected elements depends on your requirements for the box. Assembly can be done at wooden base using aluminum strips and angles. Fastening is done using rivets.

If you are a purposeful and creative person, then the process making a tool box will not be difficult, but when you see the fruits of this labor, you will increase your self-esteem and save budget funds.
