How to cover a roof overhang with siding. Hemming of roof overhangs - available options and methods. Making a box for overhangs

Two types are often used:

  • siding without perforation.

Why choose soffits

  • hooks for gutters;
  • metal scissors;
  • gutter;
  • electric saw;
  • special profiles;
  • punch;
  • cornice siding;
  • cornice boards;
  • end and starting bars.

To cover the roof with siding, a box is required. It can be made from wooden blocks. Suitable for lining only wooden blocks, in other cases aluminum is suitable.

Rules for installing siding

Important points of work

  • For the cornice, it is recommended to use planks under or roofs; ordinary boards are also used, but they do not give such an effect.

Choosing siding for cladding

For the roof, not only vinyl siding is used, but also wood, metal, and galvanized materials. Vinyl option used more often because of its strength, lightness, reliability and low cost. Panels made of siding are thin sheets 3 m long. Each panel has several profiled 10- or 12-centimeter strips equipped with locks.

Roof siding configurations may vary. Two types of soffits are often used:

  • soffit with partial perforation;
  • siding without perforation.

Why choose soffits

They are made from vinyl or metal. The following advantages of this product can be noted:
  • Soffits are manufactured in both perforated and solid forms.
  • The perforation of the material for the pediment can be solid or along the central part of the part.
  • The enlarged cornice is covered with perforated panels, and the pediment cornice is covered with solid panels.
  • Soffits have an attractive appearance and are easy to process and trim.
  • The weight of the vinyl product for overhangs is small, the material is easy to install, is durable, and is not subject to corrosion.
  • Aluminum soffits for overhangs are made of a single sheet with a decorative layer.

What is needed for plating

Roof lining involves the use various instruments and materials. You will need the following components of the workflow:

  • hooks for gutters;
  • metal scissors;
  • gutter;
  • electric saw;
  • special profiles;
  • punch;
  • cornice siding;
  • cornice boards;
  • end and starting bars.

Making a box for overhangs

To cover the roof with siding, a box is required. You can make it from aluminum profile or wooden blocks. Only wooden blocks are suitable for lining; in other cases, aluminum is suitable.

Installation of eaves with siding (video)

The box for filing the pediment cornice is made of two boards, one of which is attached to the wall. Soffits are not easy to install, but if you approach the work responsibly, everything will work out. Overhang panels not only perform a functional load, but also protect the roof from excess water during rain or melting snow.

Roof soffits will allow you to implement any architectural solutions. Thanks to a wide range of components and types, finding the right option will be easy.

Soffits for overhangs are installed in several stages:

  1. Two strips are installed on the roof eaves.
  2. J- and F-profiles are fixed to the strip located near the wall.
  3. The soffits are aligned to the width of the overhang.
  4. One part of the panel is inserted into the groove, and the other is fixed on the mounted strip.
  5. The joints between the soffits and roof siding are covered with a plank.

How to properly cladding

You can sheathe the pediment with only three types of profiles - starting strip, finish bar and J-T rim. You can decorate the corners with anything you like, but the panels should be installed only on the presented profiles.

Installation of the J-T rim roofing strip is used for the end parts of the panel if the siding is finished across the frame. The starting strip is attached directly to the side where the sheathing will come from, and the end will be the finishing strip. The presented profiles require rigid fastening with screws or nails with a pitch of less than 40 cm.

Roof lining requires compliance with other rules:

  1. The material should be stored in places protected from ultraviolet radiation, and the temperature environment must be less than 60°C.
  2. The cornice lining should provide some freedom of movement of the panels in the horizontal direction.
  3. Do not hammer fastening elements into the siding too much, as the material may collapse.
  4. No sealant should be applied between panels, corners and profiles.
  5. When installing siding, do not put too much pressure on the locks.

Rules for installing siding

The gable cladding is carried out after securing the profiles around the perimeter. The panel is cut to 5 mm less than the net length to provide space for expansion when heated. Self-tapping screws are placed in the center of the holes.

When filing the roof, it is important that the screw head does not fit flush against the vinyl; a distance of 1.5 mm must be left. There should be a panel of perforated siding every meter.

When finishing the pediment, one should not forget about the need to maintain air exchange. To achieve this goal, you can alternate regular and perforated panels at intervals of 1 m. If such siding is not available in the store, you can drill holes in the standard panels.

You can hem the cornice when turning 90° using a straight joint or a miter joint. To carry out the docking, a J-T rim profile made of metal is used. Its cost is not high. You can cut the material with a grinder or a hacksaw.

The pediment hemming along the cornice, if the width of the latter is less than 360 mm, can be used on a transverse frame. Siding in in this case It is installed lengthwise, but it is better to take a wider soffit. In this case, the wooden sheathing can be made using corners of timber located at a distance of 0.5 m.

Important points of work

The roof can be hemmed only after the rafters have been installed. There are installation features that need to be taken into account:

  • Before finishing the roof, the ends of the rafters are sawn off one level at a time.
  • For the cornice, it is recommended to use planks that match the color of the facade or roof; ordinary boards are also used, but they do not give such an effect.
  • The rafters for the roof are sawed off vertically, top part sewn up with hemming.
  • Insulation of the walls is carried out before finishing the overhang.

Installation of soffit on a hem (video)

You can complete the roof cladding yourself if you put in some effort. PVC products for the pediment do not wear out, are heat resistant and do not lose color. The presented qualities ensure long-term operation of the material. Unlike lining, soffits do not rot and do not lose their attractive appearance. appearance, but installing them requires a number of tools. Before starting work, it is worth preparing a box of aluminum profiles and wooden blocks; only this can be used to attach the panels.

When the walls of the house are erected, the ceiling is installed and the roofing system is almost completely installed, the time comes to file the cornice. This process requires certain construction skills and correct selection facing material, since it is in the design of the eaves box that quite often a roof ventilation system and fasteners for drainage are provided.

Roofing is needed to ensure that the house maintains the necessary microclimate and is protected thermal insulation layer, the heat-saving properties of the roof structure have increased to complete the look of the building as a whole.

Edged boards, vinyl siding, corrugated sheets, lining, plywood or soffits can be used to file the cornice. Lining the roof overhang with siding is one of the best options. The materials from which siding panels are made are not afraid of moisture and frost, are quite resistant to sudden temperature changes and, moreover, are easy to install.

Cornice. What is it used for?

The roof eave is the part of the roof structure that protrudes beyond the outer walls of the house. The main purpose of the overhang is to protect the walls adjacent to the foundation and to insulate the entire structure as a whole.

Cornices can be front or side. Their size depends on the location. For effective functionality, the side cornices extend beyond the walls by 500 - 600 mm, and the front ones by 1000 mm. We recommend that you read the material about the chimney on the roof.

The exact value is determined by special calculations, which take into account the height of the building and the width of the foundation blind area.

After complete completion of the roof construction, the ends rafter beams connected by a box of boards that hide all the rough layers roofing pie and the edge of the coating itself. At the bottom of the boards that make up the box, special grooves are provided to cover the visible overhang area with special material. When installing a front overhang, the ridge strip and load-bearing beams, attached to the rafters, extend forward at a certain distance. Then to the ends load-bearing beams the eaves board is attached, and the roof can be considered complete.

This method has been used before. Today, to give more aesthetically pleasing In a building, the overhang being installed represents a whole system. It serves for ventilation of the under-roof space and is decorated in different modern materials for cladding. We recommend that you read the material about.

Siding panels

Fitting the roof eaves with any decorative material, including siding, affects the perception of the facade of the building and the completeness of the appearance of the entire building.

To do this, you can use the following panels:

  • Vinyl siding. This material is made of polyvinyl chloride and has properties such as durability and fire resistance. The panels are light in weight, low in cost, and thanks to a well-thought-out fastening system, they are easy to install. There are also perforated panels that can be used for roofing. Vinyl panels are able to provide the necessary air flow for under-roof ventilation. PVC is not afraid of biological influences, minor mechanical damage, moisture and ultraviolet radiation.
  • Roof siding made of galvanized steel. The panels have excellent technical characteristics, and thanks to the polymer protective coating have wide range colors The material is relatively inexpensive and durable. The only disadvantage of steel siding is that it requires compliance with all installation rules. Moisture may accumulate under the eaves, and failure to important nuances installation will ultimately lead to partial destruction of the filing, since the metal is afraid of corrosion.
  • Aluminum siding. It is a solid sheet of aluminum with a protective and decorative coating of polymer compositions. Has a wide selection of colors and excellent characteristics. Aluminum siding is not subject to deformation, thanks to the coating it does not fade in the sun, it is fire resistant and durable.
  • Wooden lining. More recently this material was widespread, but modern technologies Every year they improve and the materials produced today are in many ways superior to natural wood. When exposed to moisture, wood is short-lived, requires annual treatment and is highly flammable.

Frame design for hemming cornices

The design of the frame for hemming the cornice directly depends on the type roofing system.

There are two options for the frame system:

  • Hemming the cornice along the rafter line of a single-pitch roofing system. The angle of inclination of the frame box in this case must fully correspond to the slope of the slope. This option is suitable mainly for pitched roof with a slight angle of inclination.
  • Horizontal box. The box is mounted from two boards, where one is attached to the wall, and the second to the bottom of the rafters. This option can be used for other types of roofs.

Before installing the frame, it is necessary to prepare the rafters for fastening the box. Experts advise taking this point into account when installing the rafter system, since their ends protruding beyond the facade of the house should be cut along the same line. In addition, the beams should be parallel to each other and the ends of the rafters should be at the same distance from outer wall building.

If not all rules were followed when installing the rafter system and the rafters were not installed according to the requirements, they can be leveled by cutting them in a vertical plane. The cut points are hidden under the casing of the box. The starting board of the future frame is sewn to the edge of the rafters. The construction of the frame itself should be carried out after completion of all external work on the facade cladding.

After installing the frame, you need to insert ventilation grilles into it. Then the siding is installed.

Siding installation

Siding can be mounted horizontally and vertically, but for covering an overhang it is better to choose the second option. The panels are installed using galvanized nails.

When installing siding, the following rules must be observed:

  • The nails should be driven precisely into the center of the oval hole for fastening to the panel.
  • The nail heads should not press the panels against the sheathing. There should be a gap of one to one and a half millimeters.
  • Siding is cut according to the width of the box. IN corner profiles the panels should not fit tightly - it is recommended to make them shorter by a centimeter.

If you refrain from following these rules, the siding may become deformed over time.

The installation process itself is as follows: installation profiles are packed along the edges of the box.

The panel is inserted into them the right size and is fixed. Thus, siding is assembled step by step along the length of the entire cornice. Each subsequent panel clings to the previous one and is nailed. All panels should be held tightly, but not tightly.

To be completed installation work It’s better to start only after studying the technology. When choosing the right material and fasteners, if all installation rules are followed, you can end up with an aesthetically beautifully designed house facade with a neat cornice, the cladding of which will last for many years.

Finishing with siding is an excellent solution for any building: be it a workshop or a private house. Not only the walls began to be “dressed” in this wonderful material.

The cornice projections could not help but pay tribute to fashion and common sense.

Types of siding panels

Wood siding

This type of siding looks very aesthetically pleasing and expensive. It is easy to install and does not require additional products.

But... The cornice tends to collect condensation. Because wooden crafts will be exposed to constant moisture.

And since the cornice is located on the street, the temperature effect also takes place. These two factors will inevitably lead to the destruction of wood.

Metal siding

Because it’s not entirely profitable to line a cornice with wood siding, let’s try something different.

Metal is a very durable and trustworthy material. But due to the same condensation, it begins to rust, even despite the galvanized layer.

As a result, red rust spots are visible. Aesthetics are lost, and along with it the strength of the structure is lost.

You can, of course, purchase a copper profile. It is resistant to corrosion and has a beautiful, noble shade. But before you line the cornice with this type of siding, it’s worth remembering the price. And she is relatively tall.

Vinyl siding

Both previous options are also distinguished by a fairly high price. Vinyl siding is more widely used in construction, largely due to its moisture resistance.

Polyvinyl chloride from which it is made this type siding has:

  • sufficient strength;
  • moisture and heat resistance;
  • pleasant pricing policy;
  • variety of colors;
  • ease of installation;
  • installation does not require multi-line instructions;

It should be taken into account that the siding itself, as such, is not suitable for finishing eaves. For this purpose, special products have been created - spotlights.

These are perforated or blind PVC panels that are designed to protect the building's eaves from excess moisture.

There are several types of soffits, differing in the degree of perforation:

  • without perforation;

  • with partial perforation;

  • with full perforation;

Perforation serves to ventilate the eaves space. In order for the siding covering of the eaves to be selected correctly, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the project. Based on the engineering solution of the cornice assembly, it is possible to determine the degree of its possible moisture.

Also, using the project, you can choose the color of the product that will be used to finish the cornice with siding.

The most popular are soffits with combined perforation. They promote ventilation well, while preventing moisture from penetrating inside.

Good ventilation is especially important in wooden houses. Excess condensation causes wood to rot, which affects its bearing capacity. Metal carcass moisture will also not be spared. Rust will not only “eat” usable area elements, and will spoil the appearance of the building.

When warm attic It is more advisable to hem the overhangs with solid soffits. They will prevent cold air from penetrating inside and protect the roof from moisture from the outside.

Fully perforated panels provide enhanced ventilation. In this case, the entire panel contributes to the movement of air masses. This type of panel is used for roofs with a continuous, non-ventilated deck. For example, for roofs made of bitumen shingles or roofs covered with rolled materials.

Mounting points

In order for the lining of the cornice with siding to proceed correctly and produce the necessary aesthetic effect, you need to know several subtleties.

Types of pairing of load-bearing roof elements

Sheathing by tightening

In this case, a tightening or bottom belt farms. In any case, it is necessary to determine the pitch of the trusses.

The approximate pitch of the structures will be 500-800 mm. The panel length is approximately 3m. After carrying out simple calculations, you can determine that the panel will have to be cut at the fastening points.

In order to check the evenness of the plane of the bottom of the supporting structures, you need to pull a thread along them. The thread is stretched along the extreme points of the cornice. If in some place the elevation marks do not correspond, they must be aligned. Leveling the heights occurs by stuffing the slats.

Sheathing along the rafter leg

This is the most common solution for the cornice. In this case, it is necessary to check whether the trimming of the rafters corresponds to the same level.

To secure the cornice, two strips measuring approximately 100x40 mm are needed. One of them is attached to the rafter leg, the second to the wall of the building. The bottom of the planks should be at the same level. The planks can be fastened with nails.

If the roof slope is small, then the overhang is gentle. Based on architectural expressiveness, you can hem the overhang directly along the rafters. This option will save time and timber. Only now, you will need a little more siding than for the horizontal version.

Enlarged cornice

In some cases it is necessary to extend the cornice line. This is especially true for reconstructed buildings. In such buildings, it is necessary to hide the elements that tighten the house or reinforcement elements. How to cover the cornice with siding in this case?

For such cases, an additional supporting frame is attached to the rafters and the wall.

The eaves siding is directly attached to such a cantilever structure. The bottom of such a cornice is sheathed with a perforated panel, for better ventilation. The side of the structure is covered with ordinary facade panels.

Competent filing of the roof eaves - choice of 3 options and step by step guide

The facade of the house will never look finished and neat if the roof overhangs are not trimmed. Now there are different variants development of this sector. Based on the extensive experience of the practitioner, I have chosen the 3 most popular types of cornice cladding and then you will find out why most owners prefer them, and at the same time we will step by step analyze the installation process with our own hands.

Why hem the cornice?

The aesthetic component of the cladding is, of course, important, but in addition to it, eaves overhangs also perform an important practical function:

  • In the vast majority of roofs, it is now customary to insulate, and if the roofing cake is not covered along the edge with a frontal strip, then it will remain defenseless against the vagaries of nature and will begin to actively deteriorate, especially for insulation;
  • The frontal board, which covers the frontal strip and is also considered part of the cornice structure, is the basis for the ebb system; in most cases, the ebbs are attached directly to it, it’s easier;

  • Ventilation of the under-roof space goes from the bottom up; accordingly, in sloping roofs, the air enters through the eaves overhang and exits in the area of the ridge. A well-designed eaves overhang plays the role of a kind of filter, preventing debris and excess moisture from entering under the roof;
  • And finally, birds, insects and other living creatures often build their homes under the roof, and by covering the overhangs, you extend the life of your roof.

What is the difference between a gable overhang and a cornice overhang?

Such structures are divided into pediment and cornice. Each of these overhangs performs its own function:

  • Cornice are called horizontal overhangs that originate from the lower section of the roof. Their arrangement is considered the most important, since this is where the air comes in to provide under-roof ventilation;
  • Gable overhang- this is the lower inclined sector of the roofing pie, bordering the gable of the house. It does not take part in ventilation and the sheathing is needed here only for beauty and to protect the insulation from living creatures.

Pediment overhangs can only be in those roofing structures, where there is an inclined cut of the roof plane, for example, gable roofs. Hip, tent and other closed rafter systems have only eaves overhangs.

Three options for finishing materials

In reality, there are many more such options; we took only the most popular ones, plus even in popular directions there are differences in models and types.

Option No. 1: wooden overhangs

Until recently, wood was the most common material. beauty natural wood is indisputable and the sheathing is installed quite easily. The only downside is the need for good wood impregnation. The line includes lining, as well as hemmed and edged boards.

Illustrations Recommendations

Lining.

The main advantage of such planks is the convenient tongue-and-groove connection. There is a tenon on one end and a groove on the other. Thus, the cornice, finished with wooden lining, will have no cracks or gaps.

Hemming board.

This board has a unique shape, its ends are beveled at an angle, which allows you to equip the surface without visible cracks.

In eaves overhangs, the good thing about hemming boards is that you can leave small ventilation gaps between the slats that will not be visible.

Edged board.

This is the simplest option. Edged board You can stuff it flat with small ventilation gaps between the slats, but it won’t be very nice.

Or sew up the cornice with a herringbone pattern, as in the photo on the left, although in this option you will have to leave special gaps for ventilation.

Option No. 2: soffits or siding for eaves

Covering eaves with siding is now breaking all records of popularity. To be precise, eaves siding is usually called soffits. Such planks differ from ordinary siding by the presence of ventilation meshes or grilles. Otherwise, both the material and the installation of soffits are similar to the arrangement of siding.

Illustrations Recommendations

Copper soffit.

Copper soffit with correct installation will last longer than the roof itself. Copper does not need to be painted or impregnated with anything, it is good as is. The only problem is that copper soffits are very expensive.

Aluminum.

Aluminum soffits are just as durable as copper ones. Plus, these planks are powder painted, which means the color can be matched to any façade. True, the price of aluminum soffits is not much lower than copper ones.

Cink Steel.

The price here is average, plus galvanized soffits are also painted and if they are not scratched, they will last a long time.

Plastic.

Vinyl soffits can be called the best option. They are light, not afraid of moisture and the most affordable. The main thing is not to buy cheap models, as they change color over time.

Option No. 3: profiled sheet

Finishing with corrugated sheets is not much different from covering eaves with soffits; they are even visually similar. Moreover, the corrugated sheet is made from the same galvanized and painted metal as steel soffits. Only the dimensions of these sheets are much larger and there are no ventilation meshes on them. They will have to be arranged separately.

Overhang installation technique

Installation of overhangs is carried out after the roofing pie is completely arranged. It is advisable that wall decoration has also been completed, but this requirement is not necessary.

Types of structures

Sheathing of overhangs can be carried out in 3 options:

  1. Under the rafters;
  2. Using hanging fillies;
  3. Tied to the wall.
Illustrations Recommendations

Sheathing parallel to the roof.

Roofs with a small angle of inclination, usually up to 30º, are covered under the rafters. Fewer calculations and measurements will be required here, but it is important that all rafter legs are of the same thickness and located on the same plane.

Hanging fillies.

Box designs are more common. According to the rules, it is necessary to equip the fillies as in the diagram on the left and attach the lining to them.

Snap to wall.

This installation is much simpler than the previous one, but according to this scheme it is impossible to sheathe the eaves of wooden houses, since during shrinkage they may warp or even collapse.

Installation of end and front boards

  • Installation should begin with trimming to level rafter legs and under-roof sheathing strips. To do this, a cord is stretched between the extreme points and everything is trimmed along it;
  • The end board is nailed along the sloping edge of the roof. It will become a limiter for installing a gable overhang;
  • Under the front board, the edges of the rafter legs must be cut strictly vertically, but before installing it, first a strapping or hemming board is nailed and only then the front board is attached to it;
  • The dimensions of the hem board should be about 20x150 mm. The end and front boards are taken thicker, from 30 mm.

Arrangement of spotlights

It doesn’t matter what material the soffits are made of, their installation technology is the same. From the material we will need a J-chamfer, a J-profile, a finishing profile and the soffits themselves.

There are 3 schemes for arranging a cornice with soffits, we will take 1, since it is cheaper.

Illustrations Recommendations

J-profile.

We measure the J-profile. Outer and inner corner in gable roof are the same, in other roof structures they need to be measured separately.

cutting.

Soffits and profiles are easier to cut with a grinder.

Modern Construction Materials amaze with their diversity and excellent performance characteristics. Some can be used not only for facade cladding, but also for cornices. One of these materials is siding, which has unique properties.

There are sidings different colors, textures and materials from which they are made, so choosing the one you need at home will be quite simple.

These are vinyl panels that are available in a wide range color scheme, the package includes a wide variety of planks, cornices and profiles that allow you to make the structure very attractive and reliably protected from various negative weather conditions.

What is covering eaves with siding, how does this material differ from others, how can you make something similar with your own hands?

Siding for cladding

Vinyl soffits have wear-resistant and aesthetic qualities.

The siding itself for cladding can be not only vinyl, but also wood (lining), as well as galvanized metal, simple galvanized. But vinyl is used most often. This is due to its lightness, strength, reliability and low price. Siding panels are thin sheets with a length of 3-3.6 m. Each panel has two or three profiled strips with dimensions of 10-12 cm and special locks on the edges.

  • Siding includes many different components. In particular, soffits can be of two types:
  • siding panel is solid without perforation;

soffit with partial perforation.

Features of vinyl soffits

  1. When using vinyl soffits, you must follow some rules:
  2. Before work, the material must be stored in places where it is not exposed to direct sun and the temperature does not exceed 60 degrees Celsius.
  3. The siding itself suggests that the panels should have some freedom of movement in the horizontal direction.
  4. When the siding is attached, do not press hard on the fasteners, as they can be damaged.
  5. The soffits are attached using self-tapping screws.
  6. When fastening, do not screw the self-tapping screw too tightly so that the head is completely recessed into the siding. It is necessary to leave a gap of at least one millimeter between the panel and the board.
  7. The use of sealant between corners and panels is not allowed, and it is also not allowed to be applied between panels and the profile.

If you drive the fastening elements too tightly into the siding, you can cause the panels to collapse.

How to make a box for overhangs? For sewing, you must first make a box. It can be made from ordinary wooden blocks or aluminum profiles. In the event that plating is planned, that is, the so-called clapboard, then the box should be made only from wooden blocks; in other cases, aluminum can be used.

The box is mounted from two boards, one of which is attached to the wall; their lower part must be strictly horizontal, since otherwise the siding will not install smoothly.

Installation is a very simple matter, but it must be approached responsibly. The soffits themselves, in addition to being decorative, also carry a functional load; lining the cornices gives the entire structure a finished look. But cornices also protect the house from excess moisture during rain and melting snow.

The advantage of spotlights is that they are easy to install and can ensure the implementation of any architectural ideas. It is siding that makes this work easy; today manufacturers offer a wide variety of types of siding and components for it.

The process of installing spotlights is extremely simple:

  • two special strips are attached to the eaves overhang;
  • We screw the F- and J-profiles to the plank, which is located near the wall;
  • pre-cut soffits are equal to the width of the overhang;
  • the edge of the panel is inserted into the groove, its second side is screwed to the installed strip;
  • The junction of the soffits with the siding must be covered with a strip, which will provide a decorative appearance.

Features of the binder

Lining the roof with siding begins after installing the rafters and has some features:

  • before starting siding, it is necessary to saw off the ends of the rafters at one level (it is important to maintain parallelism with the wall of the house!);
  • the cornice can be sheathed using regular boards, but this will not provide aesthetics, so it is better to use special strips to match the color of the roof or facade itself;
  • the rafters must be sawed off vertically, their end part must be sewn up together with the entire filing;
  • Wall insulation is carried out before the roof overhang is completely closed.

The filing of eaves with siding is carried out in two options:

  1. First, a horizontal box is made from ordinary boards, one of which is attached directly to the wall (where the rafters face it with the lowered starting bar). Another board should be attached to the bottom of the rafters. At the junction of two slopes, you need to place the board on its widest part, but in no case on the edge. The joint should be smooth, running from corner to corner. This makes it possible to install a structure independent from the wall; corners and plates are used for fastening.
  2. You can also hem the eaves with siding along the rafter line (for a pitched roof). When arranging the frame of the box, it is necessary to take into account that the angle of the slope coincides directly with the angle of inclination. The lower part of the rafters must have flat surface, so that you can screw the board to them. If the roof is pitched, then at the junction of the slopes themselves
  3. are attached according to to different parties two boards.

Queue for the cornice

To cover the roof eaves, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • siding of the selected color;
  • profiles, internal, external corners;
  • self-tapping screws (the panel should not fit too tightly to the sheathing or fit into the corner profiles).

There are several options for the roof lining itself: with a frieze strip that is installed above the eaves profile, and without it. The installation itself is very simple, the main thing is to properly prepare the rafters for installing the box. We check the parallelism of the rafters that protrude beyond the facade, their evenness (they should all go in one line).

The ends of the rafters must be cut in a vertical plane. After trimming, we begin to build up the initial board for the sheathing; usually an OSB sheet is used for this purpose.

We begin installation of the roof cornice after the insulation has been completed. At the same time, do not forget about ventilation, for which special grilles are installed. We do this right away, while the scaffolding has not yet been removed. Only after completing all of the above procedures can you begin installation of siding.

Advantages of copper soffits

One of the highest quality materials is copper siding, but it is used extremely rarely, since its cost is quite high. The beautiful appearance of this coating and its characteristic reddish color are obtained due to the appearance of an oxide film on the copper.

Copper soffits are thin sheets with increased thermal conductivity that are not subject to corrosion. Covering with such siding allows you to solve many problems, including resistance to any aggressive environment and moisture. In this case, only perforated soffit is used, which provides excellent ventilation. Sometimes the installation of the cornice is carried out using patinated coatings that have a noble malachite-green hue.
