A door panel is a plank used to continue door frame, whose width smaller size wall thickness. This is a decorative technique that advantageously improves the complex decoration of the doorway and preserves the integrity of the door composition.

Very important and required element, often common in modern restoration repairs, where the thickness of the wall due to the uncontrolled application of various solutions, such as putty or plaster, cannot be predicted or calculated.

In some cases, craftsmen prefer to finish the slope part with putty, bringing it to zero and clear, even angles. This technique is especially used with fairly thick walls, where extensions to interior doors can be very wide. But with wall thicknesses up to 20-25cm, extensions can be used organically and quite appropriately.

What are the accessories for interior doors made of?

Additional strips are made from various materials. Basically, they are made for specific door models, since according to generally accepted rules, the extension should not differ from the door frame and leaf, as well as the casing, in coating or color. Therefore, they are most often offered as additional equipment to the main set of doors - frame, door leaf and trim.

Their demand depends directly on their popularity door leaves specific modification. They are made from various types of wood, as doors made of veneered MDF, OSB or chipboard.

Lamination can also be different - in addition to veneer, they use polyvinyl chloride film or textured melamine paper, painted in the color of wood species.

IN MDF technology waterproof impregnation with resins is used to avoid warping. Lamination is carried out from one plane, used as the front working side, as well as both ribs. There are also plastic options, but they are designed for specific types of doors.

Dimensions of additional strips for interior doors.

The planks can also vary in width and thickness. These are mainly specimens about 1-5 cm thick, 210 – 240 cm long, and 10-40 cm wide. Their dimensions may vary depending on the specific door manufacturer. Excessive width and length of extensions are not acceptable for standard equipment and can only be made to order.

Average price category of interior additions.

Since this element is optional, it is not included in the main complex set interior doors. In terms of prices, it does not exceed the cost of a door frame, and is valuable only in view of its specific application with a specific door leaf.

In most cases, extensions are made with long planks, sometimes they are sawed in half to finish the upper part of the slope. On average, the price for a long strip varies from 350-1000 rubles, depending on the material and door manufacturer.

Door extensions from the Russian company “Sofya” are in the price category slightly above average, have a thickness of 53 mm, a length of 2100 mm, and cost about 800 rubles. They are presented in a range of finishes, numbering about 30 lamination options, both artificial and natural veneer.

For doors from the Profil Doors company, additional installations will cost 450-700 rubles. They are produced in a strict configuration with a specific modification of the canvas. They are available in 2 widths – 100 and 150 mm. The length of the extensions is 2100mm.

The Belarusian Doors company offers veneered finishing options for additional trims. Their price category It is not expensive, in the range of 450-650 rubles per strip. Width – 100-150mm.

The procedure for installing extensions on interior doors.

Before you begin adjusting and installing the additional kit in place, you should first decide on its appropriate size. By measuring the thickness of the wall and subtracting the width of the door frame from this size, we get the net width of the additional trim.

In some rare cases, there is a need to place the doors in the middle of the opening. In this case, the net width of the extension must be divided into two parts and placed on both sides. Standard installation involves one-sided exposure of the door frame.

The extensions for interior doors are made in the form of a regular smooth strip, without any holes or grooves for fastening. But in the door frame, especially at Belarusian doors, make a groove on the back side of the edge of the box, especially for installing the extension.

Most types of extensions are designed to be placed in the opening before the main installation of the door. But there are varieties that are installed after the door is installed, on the prepared plane of the door opening. Let's look at the variations of installing accessories in order:

First we need to assemble the doors. After assembling the box and fitting it into the opening, you can safely begin finishing with additional trim. For this purpose, it is, of course, better to have an electric one, for example, a cutting saw with an upper bed or a jigsaw with an electric grinder.

If you have 1 or several doors, you can get by with a hacksaw and a plane. When adjusting the required size, you must not forget about the groove in the box, the size of which must be added to the net size of the strip. Having cut off the required dimensions of all 3 sides to the width and length and aligned them, you can begin installation.

There are several possible ways to install extensions.

The easiest way is to screw it to the door frame, before it is installed in the opening, using screws, nails or glue.

But what to do if the doors are already standing? There are several tips for these cases.

The first method is to install it on dowel nails or anchor bolts, drilled directly into the wall with a hammer drill. Expansion dowel-nails from Wkret-met are best suited for this case. You need to drill the hole first a regular drill with a drill whose diameter coincides with the diameter of the dowel cap or anchor bolt.

Then, using a hammer drill and the necessary drill, a hole is made in the wall. 3-4 fastening holes for the vertical guide sides and several holes in the top bar are sufficient. The screws of the fasteners are screwed flush with the surface of the extension so that they can be closed with a plastic plug pre-set with glue. The method is somewhat difficult in that the distance to the wall may be different, and you may have to use polyurethane foam.

The second method is installation only on foam, suitable for subtle options, about 1-2cm thick. A more gentle installation method that does not require any additional power tools. It is most practical to place the trims adjusted to size into the grooves with the cut side and the flat side facing outwards towards the platband. Having assembled the frame of the extension together, they fix it to the wall as stably and reliably as possible.

This procedure can be done with a vertical bar without much difficulty. After the final installation, you can safely foam the extension without fear of it swelling relative to the door frame. In addition, the extensions are also attached to especially strong liquid nails. Having secured the entire set of additional strips, you can confidently mount the door casing.

Additional strips serve as an excellent addition to modern doors, ennobling the opening space and making the door installation itself logically complete.

To choose the right fittings for interior doors, it is important to know the dimensions of the frame and opening. For ease of replacement work door designs according to GOST were installed standard parameters regarding the dimensions of all elements of the product. However, sometimes they differ from the generally accepted ones. In this case, it is important to know how to adjust your own indicators to the established standards.

Design features

To better understand how to determine dimensions, consider the components:

  • Box. A frame that holds the canvas in the opening and fixes it in the desired position. It consists of a top crossbar, two sidewalls and can be supplemented with a threshold.
  • Extras. An intermediate link between the box and the platbands. These elements cover the section of the wall for which the thickness of the slab was not enough.
  • Canvas. The door itself, that is, the element that blocks the opening. Mounts on hinges or sliding system. It is also equipped with other fittings: locks, handles, door closer. Can be solid, consist of several parts, combine different materials etc.

Main components of a doorway

If the wall thickness matches the dimensions of the box, additional additions are not required.

GOSTs are established. In individual production, deviations are allowed while maintaining the correct ratios.

Box dimensions

To understand whether extensions are needed, you need to know the width of the door frame. Ideally, it is adjusted to finished walls. If the surface is to be covered with plaster or tiles in the future, leave a small gap if the thickness of the frame does not match the opening. If the width of the elements is too small, then it is necessary to consider the option of using extensions.

The standard thickness of the frame of interior doors depends on the conditions of their installation, in particular on the type of wall structure. Load-bearing sections are always thicker than conventional partitions.

The height is set within 200 cm, but there are also larger products. If the height of the frame was greater upon purchase, this can be easily corrected by sawing off the excess along the side elements.

The third component is width. Standard sizes are installed at 60, 70 and 80 mm. If necessary, they can be increased. For a precise fit top bar filed before the final connection of the frame elements.

Dimensions of extensions

Extensions are no less important part of the design than the box itself. If you were unable to select a frame of the required thickness, with their help you can eliminate the disadvantage associated with the presence of a “bare” section of the wall in the opening. Dimensions door trims are selected individually.

There are two types of extras:

  1. Standard straight. These are even strips that are fixed in the opening. Available with or without protective edge. The exact width is established by adjusting and sawing off unnecessary material. Attached with nails or glue. Standard height is 2 m.
  2. Telescopic. The perfect solution. The use of telescopic extensions for interior doors is especially important in cases where the width cannot be accurately determined. They are installed by lock connection"tenon and groove". The protruding part of the extension is driven into a groove machined in the box. In this way it is possible to obtain right size. The width can be adjusted with reverse side, where the elements are connected to the platbands according to the same principle.

Types of door panels according to the method of fastening

There are door extensions different sizes. Today the range of goods is unusually high. You can select products from 70 to 400 mm on average. This applies to all models.

Key Requirements

To ensure that the dimensions of the box and the canvas match according to established standards, it is necessary to highlight the basic directions of the size ratio, in accordance with the standard GOST requirements:

  • The gap between the wall and the box should be 1-1.5 cm, so that there is space for adjusting the position, shock absorption and uniform load distribution through the use of polyurethane foam.
  • There is a gap of 3 mm around the entire perimeter between the canvas and the loot. The distance from the floor to the door in the absence of a threshold should be 1 cm.
  • For heat and sound insulation, it is envisaged to use a sealing strip around the entire perimeter. If between the canvas and the box are not maintained required clearances, use a thicker seal.

If the elements filling the doorway violate the standard dimensions, they can be corrected - by filing the frame or removing a layer of the canvas.

Of course, it is not advisable to do this, but if there is no other choice, try not to damage the front covering. To increase the size, inserts and fillers are used.

To avoid getting into a difficult situation, order doors after completing the main work on remodeling and finishing the opening. Special attention Pay attention to the choice of the company, its reputation and the level of qualifications of its employees.
