The structures are divided into transformers with a horizontal or vertical mechanism. The choice of system is influenced by the dimensions and design style of the room. Products that rise vertically are the most frequently purchased and functional. Horizontal transformers are suitable narrow rooms with low ceilings.

Tools and materials

Before you start creating a transformer for a small apartment or premises with larger area, it is recommended to purchase working materials and tools. The structures require wood panels: furniture panels, chipboards, LDS, etc. Materials are purchased after drawing up the diagrams, 10% is added to the indicator.

Furniture panels are produced by pressing boards and bars without the addition of synthetic compounds. The material is environmentally friendly, durable, easy to use, but has a high price. More budget and affordable - chipboards (chipboards, laminated chipboards). Boards are produced in various colors, thicknesses and densities. The strength index of the composition is less than that of furniture panels. The preferred thickness is about 20 mm.

When making a transforming bed, you will need a set of special tools: drill, screwdriver, jigsaw, hammer drill, grinding machine, measuring tape, building level, square Pliers, a file, a hacksaw, a set of screwdrivers, etc. will also come in handy.

The design will require accessories: a folding mechanism, confirmations, self-tapping screws and self-tapping screws different sizes, furniture corners - standard and reinforced, anchor fastener, handles, elements for decorating the façade.

DIY wardrobe bed

A simple and easy-to-make model that combines a wardrobe and a sleeping bed. The product consists of 3 parts, which are created separately and then combined into a folding structure. Before making a transforming bed with your own hands, you need to calculate the dimensions of the model and draw up a drawing with marked locations for fasteners. You can use ready-made diagrams or make a plan yourself, designing every detail.

The dimensions and shape of the bed base body depend on the required functionality and the size of the room. An important part of the transformer is a spacious niche for sleeping. At self-production For the frame of a wardrobe-bed, slabs (laminated or standard) are often chosen, since the material is unpretentious in processing and is affordable. You can order cutting of chipboard parts according to the required parameters from the manufacturer, in which case the edges of the elements will be processed with edging tape.

MDF or chipboard boards are fixed at the bottom of the base, in assembled form they serve as the facade of furniture. When designing elements, the interior design is taken into account. Combines rack and bed lifting device. The mechanism carries heavy loads, so experts advise choosing high-quality systems. When making a wardrobe bed, you should also pay attention dimensional characteristics mattress, availability of accessories.

Frame making

The transforming frame must hide compact place rest, so it is carried out according to the calculated dimensions and configuration. The design should provide access to a spacious niche for the sleeping bed. When making calculations, it is important to take into account the parameters of the mattress so that the depth of the box matches the thickness of the bed. Experts recommend adding 2-3 cm to the required size.

The material used is easy-to-process chipboards. The parts are cut by the manufacturers to avoid chipping. You can order a ready-made frame from specialists, which will simplify installation work, but will cost more than doing the structure yourself.

The box contains several elements: plinth, back wall of the cabinet, shelves for support. There are standard standards size range, but it can be done individual project- by author's design. In this case, accurate independent calculations will be required.

For the base of the frame, 2 boards are needed, which become load-bearing in the structure. The size of the beams is about 2 m. The beams are fixed at the top, bottom and along the edges with screws and glue. Cross boards add reliability. The finished frame is covered with cladding and the materials are fixed adhesives. The parts are fastened using self-tapping screws or self-tapping screws, which are placed at a distance of 25 cm. Assembly work is carried out on a flat surface.

Making a folding part of the bed

The next stage is the installation of the folding part of the sleeping bed. The basis is plywood, sawn to the required dimensions. To avoid sagging and damage after installation, it is recommended to use 4 boards and add cross slabs. Additional sides will strengthen the sleeping bed. Additional elements must not interfere with the functioning of the lifting system.

When making a folding block, proper calculations are required to avoid overloading the box. The moving part should facilitate the design. The bed lifting mechanism can be represented by garage curtains, a solid axle, or axles with bearings.

It is important to ensure that the frame with the mattress is lifted and the structure is fixed vertically without physical effort. This requires spring blocks or counterweights. It is not necessary to make a lifting mechanism for a transforming bed yourself; the systems can be purchased ready-made.

Manufacturing process

Connecting two parts for a double bed - frame and sleeping part

Installation of a transformable bed consists of two points - first of all, you need to make a frame for the folding mechanism, and then - a sleeping place. On the Internet you can find ready-made dimensions for standard single and double models, but if you need other parameters, you will have to calculate them yourself. The Furniture Designer program will be an excellent assistant for this.

We attach the frame using corners to anchors if you have walls made of concrete or brick, or self-tapping screws if the house is wooden

Perform rigid fixation with anchor bolts of a strong metal slats on the wall. This will be needed to strengthen the frame metal corners. For the base of the frame, take two reliable boards - they will load-bearing function, average length for standard transformer bed shapes it is about two meters. Along the edges, top and bottom, use glue and self-tapping screws to secure them with a cross board. Using adhesive and self-tapping screws, secure the casing to the finished frame. Remember - it is necessary that the depth of the box matches the thickness of the bed. In order not to end up with a box that does not contain the finished product, it is better to make it a few centimeters larger.

Installation of a wardrobe-bed frame using a bed lift mechanism

Next, you can begin installing the folding bed. As a base, take plywood that meets the required parameters. To avoid damage and sagging of the material, strengthen it from below by installing four boards along and across the future product. For greater comfort, you can equip the base of the bed with various sides, but remember - nothing should interfere with the lifting mechanisms.

Connected frame and base, with structural reinforcement wooden block in the middle

The next step is attaching the frame to the wall. For a long service life of the finished product, choose only high-quality fasteners. Fix the folding part to the frame with hinges, and secure its free end with special fasteners - it is thanks to them that the transformer bed is kept folded and will not unexpectedly fall apart. If you cover wooden surfaces varnish, it is more advisable to do this while the folding part is not fixed to the frame.

The last step is the decoration of the finished product

The transformable bed can be supplemented with small cabinets, shelves or mirrors, which will give the design greater functionality. In options modern design the product can be painted acrylic paints– bright colors are the most popular in children's rooms. The bedroom can be decorated using a combination of several colors and patterns. If you don’t know how to draw, you can find many stencils on the Internet - print out the one you need and use it to create a unique design.

Just think about which piece of furniture takes up a huge amount of space in our small-sized homes? Of course it's a bed. Many people prefer to purchase compact folding sofas to save space. But not one of them comfortable sofa will not replace the feeling of relaxation and comfort that you can experience while relaxing in bed.

That is why folding beds, or, as they are also called, lifting beds, have become increasingly popular.

What is a lift bed

What is this lift bed? In essence, this is an ordinary bed, which, when assembled in a vertical position, is placed in a closet or chest of drawers. Currently, furniture manufacturers use the most modern materials, thanks to which such a product will last for many years, and the varied design will help you choose furniture to suit any interior.

This design is called a transformer, because during the day it is an ordinary wardrobe or chest of drawers with shelves, and at night it is a comfortable bed.

Folding furniture can be of two modifications:

  1. Vertical. Characterized by vertical arrangement sleeping place. This bed model is suitable for people different heights and weight (can be either single or double).
  2. Horizontal. It is distinguished by the longitudinal arrangement of the sleeping bed. Most often used for children's bed models.

Among the features, one more factor can be identified, which is the installation of folding beds together with a mattress specially made to fit. Many manufacturers offer to purchase similar furniture to choose from: just a separate bed or a bed with adjacent niches and shelves. Of course, this equipment costs a little more, but it fits well into the interior.

Pros and cons of lift-up beds

Positive sides:

  • the most important advantage is the huge space savings;
  • the upholstery does not get dusty or dirty;
  • beautiful design solution– economical and elegant.

But there are also certain disadvantages:

  • this is of course high price similar structures;
  • such a bed will also have to be assembled every day in the morning and laid out in the evening (in general, this option is not for the lazy);
  • there is no way to move it to some other place.

Of course, to save space, you can try to assemble this structure yourself.

DIY folding bed: step-by-step instructions

Let's consider the main stage of its manufacture:

  1. You need to determine for yourself what kind of bed you need - a vertical or horizontal modification.
  2. Indicate what you will need for the job: frame, lifting mechanism, orthopedic mattress. Select the material from which the bed will be assembled (you can take chipboard, MDF or natural wood). The main thing here is that the selected material suits you in every way. technical specifications, that is, it was durable, reliable and environmentally friendly.

Materials that will be needed for the upcoming work:

  • MDF boards 20 mm thick;
  • plywood 10 mm thick;
  • nails;
  • screws;
  • fastening loops.

Tools:

  • yardstick;
  • pencil;
  • emery;
  • drill;
  • screwdrivers: Phillips and slotted;
  • corner;
  • saw;
  • grinding angle.

After preliminary preparation, we proceed directly to assembly.

  1. The first step is to assemble the frame. It can be in the form of a cabinet or be a separate piece of apartment design. When choosing material for the box, you must remember that in the future you will have to make efforts to lift it along with the bed. Therefore, the wall on which the structure is installed must be concrete in order to withstand the load placed on it.
  2. We attach the box to the wall, based on the upper profile and the axis of rotation of the structure. The thickness of the vertical walls is usually 2.5 centimeters, and the horizontal thickness is from 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters. The box consists of two parts (plinth and shelf for support). The back wall does not need to be attached.
  3. All parts are fastened together with self-tapping screws at a distance of 25 centimeters from each other. The frame must be installed on a flat surface.
  4. To make the bed itself, you need to take two side boards, two backs and a headboard. In order to strengthen the mattress on the bed, special belts are used. For all other parts - mounting angles.
  5. The next stage of assembly is attaching the stock to the frame using a lifting mechanism. Recommended to use ready-made option with gas spring. Using it, you can fix this structure in any position. It is also a good idea to attach an additional fastener to prevent the bed from spontaneously opening. The safety strap is attached to the top of the frame, which holds the folding part through a loop.

Horizontal design

The assembly mechanism of this product is similar to the vertical model.

There is a stock box and a lifting mechanism. Their parameters will differ depending on the size of the mattress and the bed itself.

For installation you need:

  • four chipboard parts for side (1080 × 394 × 19 mm) and internal items (1080 × 265 × 19 mm);
  • two wood panels for the bed cover (2020 × 400 × 19 mm) and the shelf (1010 × 400 × 19 mm);
  • two wood panels for the bottom of the bed (1982 × 390 × 19 mm) and shelves (972 × 390 × 19 mm);
  • two wood panels for decorating a chest of drawers (980 × 310 × 19 mm);
  • two bed rails (2000 mm);
  • cornice (2020 × 992 × 19 mm).

All parts are attached with self-tapping screws. This design is assembled according to the principle of assembling a vertical bed. Side rails 13 cm long are attached along the length of the frame so that the mattress does not move.

Since many apartment owners are faced with the issue of a lack of free space, furniture designers are offering new solutions for more useful arrangement interior Among the leaders in the furniture market today there is a wardrobe that can be transformed into a full-fledged double bed. Such a design can perform only one function - to act as a sleeping place, and the closet can be an exclusively decorative addition to the lower base of the bed. However, it can be closed with retractable open or closed shelves, which will also be functional.

If you want to save space in your apartment, you can make a wardrobe that transforms into a bed.

In order to make such a transformable bed, you will need a hammer drill equipped with a drill, minimum diameter which should be equal to 10 mm. Since the force lever in lifting structure turns out to be extremely large, the fastening to the wall should be as reliable as possible. This indicates the need to exclusively use anchors with a diameter ranging from 10 to 12 mm with a minimum length of 80 mm. That is, plastic or wooden dowels should not be used.

Figure 1. To make a transformable bed cabinet you will need a lifting mechanism and legs.

A drill-driver with a 12 mm chuck, as well as a set of bits that contains a hexagon, designed for working with confirmats, will also be useful in the work. It is also necessary to prepare a construction right angle, which has a measuring ruler up to 400 mm. To check the evenness of the arrangement and fastening of elements, you should use a level whose length exceeds 500 mm. For pairing wooden elements 5 and 8 mm drills should be prepared.

To make a transformable bed cabinet yourself, you will have to make blanks from laminated chipboard, which you will not be able to saw at home without chipping without using special tool, which is why it is better to order cutting in a specialized workshop. The elements shown in Figure 1 should be used as the lifting mechanism and legs.

Preparing elements for the structure

It should be made using an 18mm chipboard sheet, the edges of which should be treated with a 0.5mm thick melamine edge. For the design it is assumed to use a mattress with dimensions equal to 2000x1600x220 mm. The wardrobe bed is designed for a mattress that is based on a steel frame; such mattresses are used for beds with a lifting bed like an ottoman.

The floor and walls of the room must be level, an error of 5 mm per 1 m of length is permissible, otherwise the structure after installation will begin to wobble, deforming and breaking the fasteners.

The wardrobe bed will be made from the following elements, each of which is to be prepared in the amount of 2 pieces:

  • cabinet sides with dimensions 2282x420 mm;
  • top and bottom – 1695x420 mm;
  • front panel – 1685x2235 mm;
  • sidewalls of the mattress frame – 2038x150 mm;
  • front and rear parts of the frame trim – 1605x150 mm;
  • stiffening ribs – 1690x350 mm.

The front panel is usually made one, only after that it will need to be visually divided, decorated with overlay elements, this will allow you to get several false doors. As for the stiffeners, one of them will act as a headboard, since the structure box is mounted without a back wall.

When making a transformable bed yourself and ordering cutting in a specialized workshop, you should decide who will do the edge cutting - a sawing company or you yourself.

If you plan to do the edging yourself, then the self-adhesive element must be applied to the end of the workpiece with the adhesive side, ironed with an iron, which must first be heated at 3/4 power. Then the edge should be wiped several times with pressure with a dry cloth, this will strengthen the fastening. After such a procedure, there will definitely be an extra edge left, which should be removed with special care, so as not to damage the material, by cutting and chamfering with sandpaper.

Figure 2. Diagram of the lifting mechanism of the transformer bed cabinet.

In Figure 2 you can see a diagram of the lifting mechanism that the transformer has.

The selection of gas spring force is indicated in the table in the figure.

As fasteners, you should use confirmats with dimensions equal to 5x70, but it is not recommended to purchase a whole package of them, you need 30 pieces. For work, you will need steel corners, which must be reinforced and have dimensions equal to 60x60. Because the top ones will be visible, it is best to choose forged ones, as they look more aesthetically pleasing. The false cabinet should be equipped with furniture handles, which will complement the visualization of the structure when folded and will help to unfold the structure.

Installation of a wardrobe-bed

The top, bottom and stiffeners of the cabinet must be drilled into the end using a 5 mm drill, the sides must be drilled flat using a drill diameter of 8 mm. The box will have to be tightened with confirmations. After this, the wardrobe bed can be installed in its place in the room. Next comes the turn of reinforced corners, which will allow you to strengthen the structure to the wall using anchor bolts.

Before installation work that involve mounting to the wall, attention should be paid to Special attention accurate measurements of the verticality of the sidewalls. In addition, it is necessary to ensure that there is a right angle between the sidewalls. In the place where the box is supposed to be fixed, the plinth will have to be dismantled.

Now you can carefully mark and install the fixed elements of the opening mechanism on the sidewalls. Then, using the same technology, you can drill and assemble the mattress frame. The orthopedic base strips must be installed to the harness, and the reciprocal, movable part of the lifting mechanism is attached to it. Using an 18 mm drill in the upper part of the frame with the mechanism raised, it is necessary to drill holes intended for hidden legs.

A delicate stage of the process can be called fitting and fixing the facade panel. Even with the smallest deviation, it can be installed crookedly, for this reason it is recommended to initially mount it only on four out of ten furniture corners, which is done to the outer part of the harness. After this process is completed, the gaps should be carefully measured. It may be necessary to adjust the position; only then can you begin screwing the element completely.

When making a transformer with your own hands, you should not forget that you need to install the hidden legs in the prepared holes, only then can you finally mount the facade.

When making such a design, you should not think about installing a mirror on the overall area of the facade. This is due to the fact that the mirror is not intended for dynamic loads. In addition, even if it is securely fixed, it will most likely become covered with cracks, since it will not have a rigid frame. A mirror can also add additional weight to the bed.

It is not difficult to make a transformable bed, which will become more accurate when you order a cut from professionals, after which the structure simply needs to be assembled and installed in place. Facade panel, if it is not complemented by functional retractable shelves, you can decorate decorative overlays, which will be located next to the furniture handles. If you install the structure in one-room apartment, then after assembling the bed into a wardrobe position, it will be possible to receive many guests in the room.

In small apartments where a large number of people live, there is a need to save space. The issue of furniture placement can become acute in a children's room, especially if there is only one, and several schoolchildren or children are forced to sleep in it. preschool age. To significantly save space, you can buy a folding bed. You can create a drawing and make a wardrobe bed with your own hands. This will significantly save financial expenses and allow you to create a bed of the required dimensions, taking into account color design room and its decorative elements.

Before starting the bed manufacturing process, you must have a drawing, following which you can make a wardrobe bed with or without additional shelves. Detailed diagram The arrangement of parts will help create a high-quality bed as quickly as possible, which will function correctly.

Such schemes most often involve the production of beds with dimensions of 1800*2000, 2120*1715, 2040*2200, 1731*2020. This is how double beds are made. Single beds are most often intended for children's rooms, therefore they are smaller in size. Since they are installed independently, it is possible to create a drawing of the bed dimensions depending on availability free space, the age of the child and the possible use of this bed by younger children after the older ones grow up. To create a transformable bed, the drawings must be as accurate and clear as possible.

To make a wardrobe bed with your own hands, you will need the following tools:

  • Drill;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Saw;
  • File;
  • Pliers;
  • Roulette;
  • Level;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Carpenter's pencil;
  • Sandpaper with different abrasiveness numbers;
  • Furniture screws;
  • Self-tapping screws.

This is a minimum set of tools; others may be required during the work process.

Tools

You also need to have the following materials:

  • Furniture boards or chipboards;
  • Wooden beams;
  • Wooden boards;
  • Loops for fastening;
  • Corners;
  • Hinge mechanism;
  • Decoration materials;
  • Materials for making legs.

This is also a minimum set of materials. Cutting is carried out according to the drawing. This is done like this:

  1. Using a tape measure and a pencil, all the details of the future cabinet are made in the form of patterns according to the data from the drawing;
  2. For patterns, you can use joined sheets of whatman paper or wallpaper;
  3. Each element must be signed;
  4. Mark the connection points and fastening points of the transformation mechanism.

Materials

Frame assembly

To assemble the frame, you need to know the exact dimensions of the intended bed. They depend on the size of the bed and the type of bed: single or double. The frame requires 2 side plates located along the frame, 2 side plates for fastening along the width of the bed, as well as the rear base. The back wall will occupy the entire area of the so-called closet, so it should be larger in size than the mattress that will be on the bed. Based on these considerations, it is recommended to make the frame 15 cm larger in width and 40 cm larger in length (the length margin is necessary for folding).

Having decided on the size of the side plates and the rear wall for the frame, you need to:

  1. Make cuttings on a chipboard panel or on a furniture board, using patterns for this;
  2. Cut out the parts with a jigsaw, sand them thoroughly, and edge the edges;
  3. Prepare markings for fastenings, transferring data from the patterns to the plates;
  4. Connect the board with furniture screws; to securely fasten them, pre-drill a hole with a drill and a drill with the possibility of preparing a groove for the head and fasteners (connections with screws should be made every 25-35 cm).

Mattress box

Making the mattress box yourself is the most difficult part of making a wardrobe bed. When cutting, cutting out parts from furniture boards(or other materials) should carefully follow the figures indicated in the drawing. Thanks to this, it will be possible to create a box that will correspond to the dimensions of the frame.

To make a box you need:

  • Two side walls, which can be diagonal;
  • One side wall;
  • Bottom (most suitable material for production is plywood).

How to make a box:

  1. It is necessary to cut and cut the plywood bottom in the same way as back wall for the frame;
  2. Make the back and side walls, sand their edges with sandpaper and edging tape;
  3. Using furniture screws, attach the side and back walls to the plywood bottom. It is worth maintaining a distance of 25-30 cm between the screws;
  4. Along the perimeter of the resulting structure, it is necessary to lay a wooden beam, which will serve as a support for the mattress pad. It is advisable to use timber measuring 50*50 mm. It is attached with wood screws to the side walls;
  5. To create a mattress pad device, use edged boards which are attached with screws to wooden beam. The length of one board should be such as to reach from one edge of the beam to the opposite. They are placed in the same plane as the plywood bottom. The distance between the boards is 10-20 cm.

Installation of the transformation mechanism

The lifting mechanism performs the function of moving the box in relation to the fixed frame.

How to mount:

  1. Loops hinge mechanism screwed onto the bed frame and onto the frame. The main support should be on the frame, because it is immovable;
  2. The dimensions of the box and frame are adjusted to each other, and the mechanism is connected;
  3. This work must be done with an assistant;
  4. After installing the transformation system, it is necessary to lift the box and check its compliance with the dimensions of the frame;
  5. To install the hinge mechanism evenly, it is necessary to use a level so that the bed rises evenly and thus remains securely on the same plane with the frame. A single line should be achieved at the junction of the upper edge of the frame and the lower edge of the box.

To facilitate the transformation, you can use additional parts that simplify the movement of the mechanism (gas shock absorbers, counterweight). Such mechanisms are especially necessary if a children’s or teenager’s bed is being manufactured. It is not recommended to allow children to fold and unfold a folding bed on their own, but even in this case it is necessary that children be able to unfold the bed on their own without outside help, therefore, a transformation system built into a cabinet with your own hands should be lightweight.

Creating a headboard

The headboard of the transforming cabinet must be made of soft material, especially if the bed is intended for children. It is advisable to make soft not only the headboard, but also the lower part of the side walls of the frame. The simplest option soft headboard, which you can make with your own hands, is soft foam upholstery. The role of foam rubber can also be played by padding polyester.

How to make a headboard:

  1. Fold the softening material in several layers;
  2. This material needs to be sheathed beautiful fabric with decorative elements or quilted stitching;
  3. For ease of care, you can create a removable padding with hidden zippers. It will be convenient to remove, wash and put on again;
  4. The height of the soft headboard should be at least 60-70 cm, and preferably about 1 m. This will ensure the presence soft upholstery under the back of a person sitting at the head of the bed. For the same reason, the same softening upholstery should be prepared for the side walls of the frame;
  5. Height foam pillow on the side walls of the frame should coincide with the height of the same upholstery at the headboard;
  6. The prepared upholstery can be attached to the frame or to the wall using screws and fabric (or elastic) loops. If the upholstery is not removable, then back The fabric covering can be attached with a stapler.

Legs

The legs for such a bed must be movable and turn around at least 180°C. In such cases, it is convenient to use metal legs connected together and representing a metal strip with appropriate bends.

How to attach:

  1. Take measurements of the height of the box above the floor, determine the height of the legs;
  2. Measure the width of the box. Calculate the length of the metal strip;
  3. Weld, sand, varnish the leg or order a ready-made one;
  4. Prepare holes for mounting on the box and on the leg;
  5. Such legs are attached to the bottom bar of the box so that they are attached to a wooden beam in the middle;
  6. Check the rotation of the legs.

When unfolding the transformer, the legs must be rotated 180 degrees and the bed placed on them. When lifting the box, the legs are tucked in so as to be hidden inside the so-called cabinet. In addition, a metal strip connecting two legs (or a straight strip of a cast leg) simultaneously performs the task of holding the mattress on the mattress pad. This prevents its movement during folding and unfolding of the bed. For the same purpose, you can install limiters at the upper edge of the mattress pad. Horizontal bars can serve as limiters. There may be several legs, but in this case the unfolding process becomes more complicated. The leg must be strong to support the weight of the box, mattress, bed linen and sleeping people.

Decoration and accessories

With the help of decorative elements you can completely hide the presence of a transformable bed in the room. There are many ideas for decorating the bottom rail of the bed frame that faces the room. One of the most beautiful and simple options- this is to create an imitation of a three-door or four-door wardrobe.

Imitation of doors can be done using wooden planks and handles supposedly designed to open such doors. You can place a mirror on one of the doors.

Another a good option hide the presence of a transformable bed in the room - mount this cabinet into a furniture wall, creating a bed from furniture slabs of the same color as the wall. Next to other parts of the wall, the cabinet will look quite natural, especially if you add decorative elements, such as handles and strips. At the same time, adjacent cabinets in the wall can be used to store bed linen, which will greatly simplify the process of making the bed every morning.
