Norway women's biathlon team. Norwegian biathlon. Norwegian biathlon team - the most interesting blogs Norwegian biathlon team

I associate Norway with fjords, Vikings and skiing. I think this is the country that extols skiing the most. Including biathlon. True, Norwegian men are more famous in biathlon, but we will talk about them later - today's article is devoted to northern women. When people talk about Norwegian biathletes, they usually think of Tura Berger, Liv Grete Shelbraid, Linda Grubben, Tiril Eckhoff... But in a country with such skiing and biathlon traditions, the list of interesting athletes is clearly not limited to this list? Let's see the statistics!

The women's team of Norway among the best biathlon teams of the World Cup:

Norwegian athletes are confidently second in the history of women's biathlon after the Germans. In individual races, even if we add the USSR and the CIS to Russia, we still do not catch up with the Norwegians. Who brought the Norwegians prize-winning places in the World Cup races?

Most of the surnames say nothing to inexperienced fans. Everything is clear with the leaders: Tura Berger and Liv Grete Shelbraid (aka Poiret). And who remembers Anne Lynn Elvebakk or Elin Christiansen? I guess few. In general, according to this table, we can conclude that the glorious traditions of women's biathlon are behind Norway: only three athletes who continue to perform finished in the top three at the World Cup. Let's try to figure it out, and immediately the dynamics of the Norwegian women's team.

Today we have moved away from the usual practice of starting from the 1993/1994 season, because the Norwegian team had a lot of interesting things from the very first Women's World Cup.

The first World Cup was held under the dictation of the Norwegians. Six people from this country finished in the top three in World Cup races. Moreover, there were only 12 races. The schedule shows that only one season was definitely better for the Norwegians (although it already had 26 races).

World Cup winners in the 1987/1988 season:

Anne Lynn Elvebakk - 6Elin Christiansen - 5Helga Ovsthus - 2Siri Grundnes - 1Mona Bollerud - 1Synneve Thoresen - 1

It is not surprising that two Norwegians at once became the best in the overall standings of the World Cup.

The next season, it was no longer possible to repeat the result, however, 9 athletes immediately finished in the top twenty:

Anne Lynn Elvebakk - 12Elin Christiansen - 10Mona Bollerud - 10Syunneve Thoresen - 9Syunneve Berntsen - 5Siri Grundnes - 3Hildegunn Mikkelsplass - 3Signe Trosten - 1Unni Christiansen - 1

By the beginning of the nineties, Gret Nykkelmo and Hildegunn Mikkelsplass were added to the leaders of Elvebakk and Christiansen.

But competition in women's biathlon intensified, and this led to the fact that in the 1992/1993 season, the Norwegian women's team did not win World Cup medals at all.

The decline of the Norwegian women's team lasted until the 1995/1996 season. By that time, Nykkelmo, Elvebakk and Christiansen had left, but the Schelbraid sisters, Annette Sikveland and Hun Magritt Andreassen had been added.

Liv Grete Shelbraid - 17Ann Helen Shelbraid - 15Gros Marit Ystad Christiansen - 14Hunn Magrit Andreassen - 8

In the 2000/2001 season, Liv Grete Shelbraid became the team leader, Linda Grubben began to approach the biathlon elite. This season has become one of the most successful for the Norwegians.

Liv Grete Shelbraid - 19Ann Helen Shelbraid - 13Hunn Magrit Andreassen - 10Linda Grubben - 8Gros Marit Ystad Christiansen - 7

After the 2001/2002 Olympic season, Liv Grete did not perform, and a strong failure for the team immediately happened. The next season, Schelbrade is back again and Norway is on the rise again.

But by the 2004/2005 season, the team leaders are changing, Tura Berger appears.

Linda Grubben - 16Thura Berger - 15Gros Marit Ystad Christiansen - 15Liv Grete Shelbraid - 11Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 3Ann Kristin Aafedt Flatland - 1

After the departure of Liv Grete, Linda Grubben becomes the leader of the national team. But even with the departure of Linda, the team found leaders who could replace her in the 2007/2008 season:

Tura Berger - 19Solveig Rogstad - 12Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 8Julie Bonnevie-Swenssen - 6Ann Ingstadbjorg - 3Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 2Hunn Magrit Andreassen - 1

The same was preserved in the next season 2008/2009:

Tura Berger - 23Julie Bonnevie-Swenssen - 11Solveig Rogstad - 7Ann Kristin Aafedt Flatland - 3Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 2Ann Ingstadbjorg - 2

In the Olympic season, the results of the team dipped again, but Tura Berger brought her team the first Olympic gold in individual races. Here are all the Top 20 hits that season:

Tura Berger - 14Ann Kristin Aafedt Flatland - 10Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 1Synnöve Sulemdal - 1

Anne Christine Aafedt Flatland takes a solid second place.

After a couple of seasons, the team completely rejuvenated, Eckhoff, Ringen, Birkeland appeared. Season 2011/2012:

Tura Berger - 24Synnöve Sulemdal - 19Elise Ringen - 6Fanny Horn Birkeland - 3Tiril Eckhoff - 2

The 2012/2013 season was won by Tura Berger, who finished in the top three 19 times. Promising Sulemdal was never able to become a top athlete, Flatland just returned from maternity leave.

Tura Berger - 25Tiril Eckhoff - 9Synnöve Sulemdal - 9Fanny Horn Birkeland - 5Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 4

In the 2013/2014 Olympic season, despite the drop in the results of the Tura Berger, Flatland returned to the previous level, Eckhoff and Sulemdal were able to fight for medals. At the end of the season, all four athletes were not left without prizes. And in the top twenty, the Norwegians finished a record 72 times.

Tura Berger - 23Tiril Eckhoff - 18Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 10Fanny Horn Birkeland - 7Synnöve Sulemdal - 6Elise Ringen - 5Marthe Olsby - 2Hilde Fenne - 1

After the departure of Tura Berger, they only succeeded 22 times. Season 2014/2015:

Eckhoff turned into a team leader, went to the level that allows you to fight for medals, Olsby. Season 2015/2016:

Tiril Eckhoff - 13Marte Olsby - 9Fanny Horn Birkeland - 7Hilde Fenne - 3Synnøve Sulemdal - 3Kaya Vuijen Nicolaisen - 2

In 2016/2017, only Eckhoff and Olsby performed at the TOP level:

Thus, compared with Germans or French women, Norwegians look much more modest. Their leader Eckhoff has not yet been able to spend the entire season at a consistently high level. But Eckhoff's ability to approach the main starts speaks for the Norwegians, a possible breakthrough from Olsby or Tandrevold. Or maybe Karolina Erdal will become worthy for the main team. It is also interesting whether the Norwegians will be able to assemble a combat-ready relay race for the Olympics.

In general, the Norwegians did not perform very well at the Olympic Games. Here is a list of all individual medalists:

We see only three names in it. The Norwegian leaders of the 80s did not have time to get in optimal shape to the first women's Olympiad in 1992. The home Olympiad in Lillehammer fell on a generational change. In 1998, the Norwegians were able to hold strong only the relay. The first individual medal was won by the Norwegians only in 2002. Here is a list of Norwegian Olympic medals:

Biathlon KM stage in Norway: the fight for the podium in the overall standings intensifies | Biathlon

MOSCOW, March 15 - RIA Novosti, Elena Vaytsekhovskaya. The eighth stage of the World Cup will begin on Thursday in the most iconic of the biathlon venues - Norway's Holmenkollen. On the first day, two sprint races will be held, and on March 17 and 18, biathletes will compete in relay and pursuit races.

The big one changed his mind?

Ole Einar Bjoerndalen

The current stage in Holmenkollen could be historic. In the course of the season, a lot was said about the fact that it was here, when the main start of the season, the Games in Pyeongchang, was behind, that the eight-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Björndalen, who turned 44 in January, would finally say goodbye to sports. But Bjoerndalen failed to qualify for the Olympic team.

Then it was planned that he would return to the national team at the Holmenkollen stage, but only as a substitute. And only the sudden malaise of the four-time Olympic champion Emil Hegle Svendsen allowed the Norwegian veteran to return to the team in the Finnish Kontiolahti. There, Ole Einar performed without much brilliance: despite impeccable shooting in the sprint, he became only 12th, there was no place for him in the relay races (mixed and single-mixed), and in the mass start the biathlete finished 28th, making six misses.

Bjoerndalen spoke out against the boycott of the Biathlon World Cup in Tyumen >>>

In an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, Björndalen said that he had enough motivation to run until the age of 50: “My goal was to approach the Olympics in optimal shape, but I didn’t manage to get to the Games. Now I’m getting ready for the upcoming starts. I have motivation to play until the age of 50. So next season everything will start from the beginning." A little later, in an interview with NRK, the biathlete said that he would make a decision regarding his future career after the end of the current season, which will end for him along with the final start of the World Cup in Tyumen.

Still without Akimova

Russia is fourth in the men's Cup of Nations (Norwegians are in the lead) and fifth in the women's (the first are the Germans).

The composition of the Russian team in Holmenkollen is as follows: Anton Shipulin, Anton Babikov, Maxim Tsvetkov, Dmitry Malyshko, Evgeny Garanichev, Matvey Eliseev, Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht, Daria Virolainen, Uliana Kaisheva, Victoria Slivko, Svetlana Mironova.

Tatyana Akimova

The composition of the Russian national team in Holmenkollen will be the same as it was in Kontiolahti, where the only force majeure replacement was the castling of Alexander Loginov - Malyshko. For Malyshko, this appearance in the main team was the first, before that he had competed in the reserve team, and in the only personal race of the stage, the sprint, he finished 26th. In the same place, the athlete conducted intensive training work with Anatoly Khovantsev, who specially arrived, so it may well be that Malyshko will be more convincing in Holmenkollen.

Biathlete Akimova will not perform at the World Cup in Norway >>>

Tatyana Akimova will not appear in the women's team at the Norwegian stage. The biathlete tried to stop all speculation that the national team coaches are punishing her for speaking too harshly about them at the Olympic Games and therefore not being attracted to the national team.

“I really got sick,” Akimova wrote on Instagram. “I want to explain the situation. I deliberately missed the stage in Kontiolahti and was preparing to go to Oslo. But, unfortunately, I got sick. Due to the temperature, I missed several days of training - apparently, some kind of virus. There is no need to look for any other reasons here. I am doing everything to recover as soon as possible and return to duty, but it takes time. I don’t want to make any predictions yet. I sincerely wish good luck to our entire team in the upcoming stage."

Shipulin: fourth attempt

Anton Shipulin

The only Russian athlete for whom starts in Norway are really important is the Sochi Olympic relay champion Shipulin: he is third in the overall World Cup standings with 568 points. If Anton manages to maintain the "bronze" position, he will become the winner of the overall World Cup standings for the fourth time in his career, which no other Russian biathlete has been able to do.

Shipulin climbed to third place in the overall biathlon KM standings after the 7th stage >>>

Five-time Olympic champion Martin Fourcade is leading this race (888 points). Norwegian Johannes Be, however, has a chance to catch up with the Frenchman - he has 845 points.

In the same way, three-time Olympic champion Anastasia Kuzmina (613) keeps the chances to catch up with the leader of the overall women's standings Kaisa Mäkäräinen (666). Despite the fact that the heroine of Pyeongchang is now experiencing a completely obvious decline, the difference between her and the Finn in pursuit of a large Crystal Globe is not critical. Dorothea Wierer (568) is in third position after seven stages of the Cup, but her position is not to be envied: only two points behind her is the two-time champion of Pyeongchang German Laura Dahlmeier, and it will be very strange if she does not get the Italian out of her way before the end of the stage in Holmenkollen.

Norway National Biathlon Team

The Norwegian biathlon team represents Norway in international biathlon tournaments. One of the most titled teams in the world.

Olympic Games

In terms of the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won at the Olympic Games, Norway is second only to the national teams of Russia and Germany. Traditionally, the men's team is more successful on the world stage than the women.

The first medal for Norway was won by Olav Yordet in 1964 (2nd Winter Olympic Games, where biathletes took part). The first gold medal was won at the next Olympiad by Magnar Solberg. At the five Olympic Games from 1976 to 1994, the Norwegians failed to win a single medal, with the exception of the 1984 games, where Norway won a medal of each value.

In 1998, Norway made a breakthrough, after three medalless games, 5 awards were won, two of which became gold. Women won their first medal - bronze, in the relay.

In 2002, Ole Einar Björndalen became the absolute Olympic champion, bringing 4 "gold" to the team's treasury, the women in the relay won the "silver", and Liv-Grete Poiret became the first Norwegian to win a medal in a personal race. Result - 6 medals.

In Turin, in 2006, Norwegian athletes repeated the achievement of the previous Olympiad, also 6 medals, but there is no gold among them. Women could not get on the podium.

in Vancouver, in 2010 Norway won 5 awards, three golds and two silvers. Gold was brought to the team by Emil Hegle Svendsen, Tura Berger and the men's relay team.

In the first men's sprint, forty-year-old Ole Einar Björndalen sensationally won his seventh Olympic victory. In the men's mass start, the photo finish named Emil Hegle Svennsen the winner. The third gold was obtained in the mixed relay by Tura Berger, Tiril Eckhoff and all the same Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Emil Hegle Svennsen. Björndalen, 40, won his 13th career Olympic medal, something no other person has ever achieved at the Winter Olympics.

The main goal of the sabotage is "disabling an important strategic object (for example, undermining the bridge over which they carry noodles to the canteen", in contrast to the terrorist attack, the purpose of which is "intimidation, society, states, etc. (for example, blowing up a canteen with people where this noodles were brought), in the first case, people will not be able to eat fresh chicken soup with noodles, and in the second case, people will be afraid to eat this very noodles. A saboteur usually acts secretly, and a terrorist defiantly, attracts the attention of the media and the population " , - he popularly explained the difference between sabotage and a terrorist attack.

"During the existence of two banana formations ("DNR" and "LNR" - "OstroV") it was quite possible to create a single "Anti-sabotage anti-terrorist center". keep stealing."

"So we learn materiel and don't look like idiots. In the meantime, the "offset" of the MTR, how sad it is. War is not a "Hurrah" in full growth for machine guns ...."

The breath of the biathlon season is getting closer, before the start of which there is less than a month left. Most of the teams have long since switched from roller skiing to snow and are preparing for the final gathering and determination of lineups. It's time to start introducing rivals, since there is enough news from the camp of each team.

LEADER

While fighting with physical and moral ailments, but trying to defeat time, he bears the heavy burden of leadership in the team. A few years ago, an ambitious big man from Trondheim dreamed of breaking the reign of the Great and Terrible, and when he finally succeeded, he himself was not allowed to stay on the throne by younger competitors. It seemed that another season - and not the most pleasant image of the forever second will be fixed for Svendsen. The past season, in addition to the second step of the final podium, brought him two personal silver medals of the World Championship, which slightly brightened up the relay feat.

Knowing the character of Svendsen, there is no doubt that he is not happy with this situation and the wounds inflicted on him by Fourcade have not yet healed. The first conclusions followed already at the end of the season, when the once successful mentor Mikael Löfgren was fired (including on the initiative of the leading athletes). I decided to change my training process and Svendsen himself, abandoning the exorbitant volumes of previous years. But in addition to “physics”, he also has to solve a psychological problem, since he lost most of the face-to-face duels to his counterpart Martin Fourcade. But the great Bjoerndalen used to walk in the shadow of Rafael Poiret for several years in a row.

SVIT

Every year he talks about fatigue and the imminent end of his career, but over the years it only grows stronger, like a good wine. Yes, and the numerous and rapidly growing Norwegian youth strives to be like the Tour, but so far only dreams of the role of the second number in the team. On the eve of the upcoming season, Berger herself spoke for the first time about the struggle for the Big Crystal Globe, which, in the absence of Magdalena Neuner, became even closer and more attractive to her. The Norwegian is ready to sacrifice even World Cup medals for him. To do this, she will have to tailor her training with an emphasis on the end of the season, which Tura does not always work out perfectly.

Norway squad for the 2012/13 season

Men:
(1979), (1974), Rune Bratsven (1984), Johannes Boe (1993), (1988), Alexander Us (1980), (1985). Head coach - Roger Grubben.

Women:
(1981), Tiril Eckhoff (1990), Hilde Fenne (1993), Bente Lanheim (1990), Elise Ringen (1989), Sunnöwe Sulemdal (1989), Fanny Strand Horn (1988), Ann Christine Flatland (1982). Head coach - Egil Yellann.

Bjoerndalen, whose brilliance is becoming less bright every year, remains the main newsmaker of the offseason in the team. First, he suffered the death of his father, then broke up with his wife Natalie, although their union seemed stronger than the rocks of Svalbard. True, everything may not be so sad here, since, according to rumors, Ole Einar has a new passion, also from the world of biathlon. Perhaps new feelings helped him heal all the sores of recent years, breathing in such a breath of freshness that the long-term personal trainer of the legend, Roger Grubben, spoke about the return of the former condition of the ward. Or maybe this is his merit - after all, it was with Grubben that Bjoerndalen spent the most fruitful period of his career, from 2000 to 2010.

Sunnöve Sulemdal in the upcoming season will be harder than anyone else. Now the coaches look at her as a hope, and the competitors look at her as a dangerous rival, which means that there will be a difficult struggle with themselves and their psychology. Personal communication with Sulemdal left me with a double impression. On the one hand, she seems to be a self-confident girl who knows her goal and the way to it, on the other hand, the excessive emotionality inherent in youth is not the best quality for a biathlete. Nevertheless, I want this bright star to cope with internal and external pressure and ignite even brighter, because in women's biathlon there is a big problem with competition.

Continues to be the most unpredictable character in the Viking team, even reaching the age of Christ. True, in recent years, he gradually began to lose crown speed and completed last season without personal podiums. Lars continues to look for reserves in shooting, having decided in September for vision correction surgery. Whether it will give a result, the season will show, but for now, nothing prevents the numerous fans of the Norwegian athlete from believing in a miracle. He himself also does not lose heart, and even before the operation he confidently beat the youngsters at the summer national championship. Agree that without people like Lars and Frode Andresen, Norway will lose some of its attractiveness.

JOKERS

The fact that the Norwegian women's team is gradually ceasing to be a team of one Tura Berger, the merit of her mentor Egil Jellan is great. A well-known biathlete in the recent past helped Sulemdal open up last season, and now continues to believe in another rising star, Eliza Ringen. In her youth, she was considered even more talented than Sunnev and was head and shoulders above most of her rivals in speed. A serious illness and many years of uncertainty forced her to start over, but the conditions for growth for the young Norwegian remain good. The only pity is that her sister Ada was never able to return to the big biathlon.

While he is treating the consequences of his cold, brother Johannes can take his place in the team. He is more in line with the classic image of the Norwegian biathlete, acting on the principle: I will win on the track as much as I want, and I will hit as much as I can. The guy, who, by the way, is still in the junior category for two more years, has been training with men for the second season and is not at all shy about it. At the Blink festival, the child prodigy showed such a rate of fire that he won the duel competition, shaming the wiser uncles. After that, it was a sin not to play with muscles and declare the goal for the season to get into the relay four.

The Norwegians also have their own red-haired beast in the women's team. In addition to the year of birth, a freckled face and a bucket of medals in various competitions of different ages, Johannes Boe and Hilde Fenne still have a lot in common. The main thing is the desire to declare oneself early, the lack of authority and the phenomenal speed on the track, which forms such confidence. Hilde also has an advantage over her brother: it is much easier to win a place in the women's team, and therefore she can start playing in the World Cup as early as December.

OTHER

Of the other changes in the Norwegian national team, it is worth noting the return to the line-up after health problems, Alexander Us, who is not yet impressive at test starts, and the exit from the decree of Ann Kristin Flatland. It would not be superfluous to recall that it was the Norwegian athlete Liv-Grete Poiret who first won the World Cup the very next season after the birth of her child. Will try to gain a foothold in the team on the second attempt 22-year-old Bente Lanheim and Tiril Eckhoff. There are no significant losses in the Norwegian team, except for the transition to cross-country skiing Kari Henneseid Aye.

SUMMARY

The Norwegian team can be the envy of any coach and head of the federation. The team has several top stars capable of bringing gold medals from major international forums, promising young people for several years to come and the continuity of winning traditions for decades. Injuries and illnesses remain the only problem, but these troubles are enough in any team. According to our forecast, the Norwegians will once again win the World Championship team standings with at least three gold medals and take one of the two big crystal trophies.
