Basically, wood is used for the construction of houses for wells and it (the house) does not have to be made with your own hands, you can also purchase or order it, the range is extensive. Such a house can be finished in almost the same way as ordinary house and is done in almost the same way as, only in a smaller version.

Let's find out how to make a house for a well with your own hands, what kind of house you can make and what you need for it.

Materials for well houses

The materials for building the house are:

  • Wood, incl. timber, board, lining;
  • Natural and artificial stone, including brick (the lower rings are decorated with stone);
  • Bituminous shingles, used for roof cladding;
  • Any other material, the flight of fancy is not limited.

After looking at a few photographs and carefully examining the fastening points, you can already imagine how to make a wooden house for a well with your own hands.

Types (types) of houses for wells

The house can be open or closed; the closed house can also be insulated so that the water does not freeze in winter.

Let's start from the very beginning simple option do-it-yourself well house. The process is well described in the video below.

This option shows the design of the house quite well and is quite easy to do with your own hands, let's move on.

The “open” type of well made from boards is a fairly simple option, the final version is shown in the video below, and by also examining the fastening components, you can build such a house yourself.

The video below clearly shows the process of fitting and connecting parts of a simple wooden frame house. Such a frame is sewn up with moisture-resistant sheet material and in this case finished with clapboard and painted.

The video below shows a house for a well, decorated with wild stone, or, more precisely, not the house itself, but its lower part, the ring.

Attaching the house to the well

First, the lower frame is assembled, the so-called. Mauerlat, when compared with the roof. Standard thickness rings - 80 mm. Bars or boards in half a tree or at an angle of 45 degrees or end-to-end are fastened in the corners with self-tapping screws or metal fastenings, resulting in an even square. You can use what is available, there are many options. The main thing is to assemble a strong frame that will be supported by the rings. The frame can be attached to the rings or not. It is important to make the mount removable so that it is possible to remove the house, because the well may require.

In the photo below, the frame is supported by stands on the ring, and bottom belt dresses on him. Almost in space, such a house cannot be moved from its place by accident.

Another option is when the frame is put on a ring and secured on the sides with screws and dowels to the ring. The screws can be tightened and the house can be removed.

In the photo below the frame stands on a ring. If it is not secured to the ring, the house can be moved accidentally by hitting it. Such fastening is not reliable enough; it is still advisable to fasten the lower belt to the ring using anchors directly to the ring from above; the diameter of the dowels should not exceed 6-8 mm, because there is a risk of damaging the ring during drilling. Or make fastening frames from below that will hold the house on the ring, for example, as in the photo. Be sure to provide for the possibility of renting the house if you do not want to disassemble it for possible cleaning of the well.

These are the main options for attaching a wooden house to a well; let’s move on to constructing the frame.

DIY well house frame

It is important to make sure that the lower belt protrudes beyond the border of the ring by 2-3 cm, this will make it more convenient to do the lining. Let's move on to the posts and rafters.

We cut out and assemble racks and rafters; examples of designs are clearly shown in the illustrations; you can choose any or come up with your own based on them. It is important to observe the dimensions and place the junctions as carefully and evenly as possible. We make sure to check the evenness of the structure with a level and/or slats so that its shape is as perfect as possible, otherwise you may end up with a crooked house.

For fastening we use self-tapping screws and metal plates and corners. You can install braces on the lower chord, which will add strength to the structure, as shown in the second photo. At the stage of constructing the frame, it is important not to forget to provide a place for the door through which we will draw water and inspect the well.

Having assembled and installed the structure on the well, we begin plating and finishing.

Sheathing and finishing of a well house

Various are used for cladding wooden materials, such as: block house, lining, or edged board.

For better fastening of the cladding, it is necessary to make a sheathing so that there is somewhere to nail it and it does not bend under pressure. You can also initially line the frame with moisture-resistant OSB (for example), and then attach, say, lining to it.

The house can also be lined with corrugated sheets or ordinary sheet metal, which must be galvanized. Under sheet metal preliminary lining with sheet materials is required.

What you need to pay attention to. For evenness of cutting materials. You need to saw off boards and lining evenly.

A ridge needs to be installed on top. The skate can be wooden or metal. It can also be decorative, figured. It is necessary to prevent water from getting inside, under the lining and into the well itself.

You can also veneer the house in the place where the ring will be. Make, so to speak, a table in which there will be a well hole. Or make a shelf for the bucket. The photo below shows what it should roughly look like. This is not a mandatory procedure, but may be convenient in some cases.

The cladding is performed on the frame that we created. If sheathing with bitumen shingles or any other sheet material is used, it is first secured to the frame sheet material— OSB or plywood. It is covered with cladding. If boards or lining are used, sheet material is not necessary, and in the case of boards it is not needed.

The simplest option for finishing a well house is with edged boards

The door is a shield made of boards, secured with hinges to the house. Assembling such a door is not difficult, the main thing is to calculate all the dimensions and first prepare the frame of the house for installing the door - on the frame of the house it is necessary to provide a frame of bars for installing the door.

Shows in the photo below various options doors and frame under them, they are all made according to the same principle.

The presence of a well in a suburban or personal plot makes it possible to enjoy cool and clean water, use it for your needs. In order for well water to always maintain its purity and freshness, it must be protected from all kinds of external influences. To do this, a shelter house is built over the well, which can be built with your own hands or ordered ready-made. If you decide to make your own well house with your own hands - step-by-step instruction will provide you with all possible assistance in this matter.

The main purpose of the well house is protection drinking water from dust, debris, leaves, branches, insects, summer heat. Gardens and vegetable gardens in spring and summer are often sprayed with chemicals that can end up in an open well. This is also taken into account when creating its protection. Water in a closed well will not freeze even in very severe frosts.

In addition, a well house can simply decorate a site if you approach its production creatively, creating some kind of artistic creation. Many craftsmen decorate such structures with carved figures, decorate them with natural stone, tiles and other materials. The structure, made in the form of some figures, wooden log houses, towers and other exotic buildings, will give the entire site unusualness and mystery.

The photo shows a version of a finished well house made of logs

And now let’s get down to close consideration of the question of how to build a house for a well with your own hands.

Required tools and materials

The traditional material for the manufacture of any well shelter is wood. It is easy to process, can last a long time, and looks beautiful.

For construction you will need the following building materials:

  • wooden beam with a section of 5 x 5 and 10 x 5 cm;
  • edged board, block house, wooden lining. One of these materials is selected, which will be used to sew up the house above the well;
  • roofing material (siding, corrugated sheeting, roofing felt, metal tiles, polycarbonate, euro-slate and other types of roofing). The material should not be too heavy to be easily supported by the supports;
  • log and metal rod for making gates;
  • antiseptics, varnishes, paints. Necessary for processing wooden structures;
  • door hinges, handle, latch;
  • screws and nails;
  • metal corners of short length (for fastening wooden elements together);
  • 2 metal bushings (pipe sections);
  • chain with bucket;
  • door or materials for its manufacture.

Step-by-step instructions for building a well house with your own hands assumes the presence of such tools:

  • circular saw or woodworking machine;
  • building level;
  • electric jigsaw or plane;
  • hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer.

General design of the house

Before you make a house for a well, the drawings of which have already been prepared, you should imagine the general sequence of work.

First, a power frame is made, which can be different in shape. The finished frame is attached to the well, after which the gate is installed. Next, the door is manufactured, hung and adjusted. All wooden elements are treated with antiseptics and then opened with varnish or varnish impregnation. The next step is finishing house, arrangement of its roof. Finally, some decorative elements are added (if desired).

We also have an article on our website that will help you build it yourself.

Finishing of the well house

When making a house over a well with your own hands, it is important to pay maximum attention to this process so that the structure does not fall apart under its own weight or under the influence of external factors.

The final stage of construction is covering the house with wood. To do this, use the material that you like best. If you want to create an imitation of a log well, then a block house is used, the surface of which imitates a rounded log. Some people prefer wooden lining. But you can simply sew up the house with an edged board, having previously treated it to remove burrs.

If the area of the slopes is large enough, then build a wooden sheathing, securing the boards in increments of 15-20 cm. Then stuff the base material onto the sheathing. This is how slopes and pediments are formed. At small area surfaces of the boards can be nailed directly onto the frame. The outer boards of the slopes should extend 10 cm beyond the walls of the house to ensure protection of the walls from moisture.

Wind boards are stuffed to fully protect the structure from wind and precipitation.

Wooden slopes are covered with any roofing material that you have available. It can be corrugated sheets, euroroofing felt, bitumen shingles, siding, metal tiles, etc. Roofing material is not installed on the gables. It is enough just to ensure their protection through impregnation.

We looked at how to make a well house yourself, providing the water source with the necessary protection. Show your imagination to give it a unique appearance.

House with a gable roof

The simplest and most popular design option. Such a well house can be easily built from available equipment, because... almost everything necessary (timber, boards, fasteners) remains after the completion of larger construction activities.

Frame

To create the base of such a house, boards and wooden beams are used.

First of all, you need to select optimal sizes main structural elements. If the parts are too thin, the well house may not withstand wind and other loads. Elements that are too voluminous will make the house bulky.

House diagram. 1 – base frame, 2 – gables, 3 – pillar, 4 – roof ridge, 5 – gate, 6 – gable cladding, 7, 8 – roof slopes

Therefore, stick to the recommended and time-tested parameters. So, optimal thickness The size of the board is 4 cm, the section of the timber is 8x10 or 10x10 cm. The design of such a house consists of four posts made of timber and the same number of boards, suitable for making the upper and lower trim. The recommended width of the boards is 120-150 mm.

Saw off the boards in advance in accordance with the dimensions of your well, and then nail all the elements one by one to the support posts. As a result, you will get a reliable and even frame. To fasten elements of the mentioned dimensions, use nails approximately 100 mm long.

At this stage, it is best to adhere to the following algorithm:

Roof and upholstery

Start arranging the roof of the well house. Start by installing trusses - this is a rigid structure designed to attach the sheathing. Make trusses from durable boards with a thickness of at least 30 mm. Select the length individually - the final height of the well house directly depends on this indicator.

Prepare boards for jibs and crossbars. Material 2.5-3 cm thick will be enough. In total, you need to prepare 6 rafter legs, 3 crossbars and 8 jibs. Cut the rafters at an angle, and then connect the upper ends of the products to each other. Fasten with self-tapping screws.

For additional fixation of the rafters, use crossbars. They should be placed 30 cm below the point of the upper rafter fastening. Create cutouts at the junctions of the rafter elements with the top trim boards. Use 12 cm nails to connect the rafters and frame.

Strengthen the fixation of the rafter elements with jibs. To connect the trusses, use a kind of ridge - a structure made of two boards. Attach the sheathing boards in increments of about 15 cm. Provide 10 cm protrusions above the walls of the building. Cover the finished roof frame with roofing felt, and on top of it, if desired, attach the finishing roofing material at your discretion. At the end, all you have to do is cover the areas with wind boards corner connections.

It is most convenient to assemble the roof structure frame on the ground.

Door

The door of such a well house looks like a kind of plank shield. The door is manufactured to the utmost simple principle. Cut boards about 150-200 mm wide. The length will be enough 85 mm.

Place the boards one next to the other and fasten them with 30x25 mm bars. Two bars will be quite enough - you fix one on top, and nail the second from below. To fasten the elements of the product, use self-tapping screws. Four screws for each board will be enough.

Nail an additional diagonal block. It will help increase the rigidity of the product. Frame the gables, attach the latch and handle, and then hang the finished door on its hinges.

Don't forget to process outer side products with an antiseptic drug and varnish. Before applying varnish, you can paint the door with waterproof paint.

Prices for various types of lumber

Lumber

Such a well house will have an original and very interesting design. To build such a structure you will need the following:

  • rounded logs;
  • boards for roofing and supports;
  • finishing coating for roofing;
  • material for arranging a gate with a comfortable handle.

Similar well houses are often found in villages. The pillars of the structure, gates and the log house itself are made from rounded timber.

Manufacturing technology

Fold the rounded timber into the log house according to the dimensions of the well. Connect the timber using any suitable and convenient method. Install two massive support posts made of wooden beam. For additional rigidity, equip the house posts with supports. On top of the support posts, arrange a wide roof structure. The instructions for constructing the roof were given in the previous section of the instructions - do everything in the same order.

The edges of the roof should extend beyond the base of the well house. This will prevent precipitation from entering the well shaft.

Fasten the gate securely. You can decorate the protruding ends of the beam with a variety of curly cutouts.

Modification of a previous design. The only difference is the shape - it is hexagonal and allows you to save additional space, which is important for owners of compact wells and small plots of land.

In general, the sequence of construction of this house remains the same as in the case of the construction of an ordinary quadrangular building made of timber. The house is well suited for framing a shaft with pumping equipment.

Prices for popular types of antiseptics

Antiseptics

Several methods can be used to decorate a house. A popular decoration option is carving. A neat carved house will fit into any landscape, the design of which is made using wood.

Another simple and popular option for decorating such structures is painting. Varnishes and impregnations allow you to radically change the texture and color of the material.

In some situations, it will be appropriate to decorate a house using a ceramic or wooden figurine of an animal.

Otherwise, each owner must independently think through the finishing design of the well house, so that finished design fit well into the surroundings and fully demonstrated the individuality and taste of the owner.

Good luck!

Paying tribute to traditions or simply decorating house plot, country property owners decorate wells wooden houses of various shapes: from a simple extension roof with a door to a very solid log house, reminiscent of a gazebo. Dozens of companies offer luxurious products with carved elements in the form of animals and openwork ornaments, but it is much more pleasant to build near a summer house original house for a well with your own hands. Walls made of timber or a wide roof also have a practical purpose: they protect the water in the well shaft from debris that is blown in by the wind. From a safety point of view, the house is also important: it serves as a barrier for children and animals.

Let's consider several projects of buildings made of wood - natural, beautiful material, very easy and pleasant to work with.

Whatever the project, the tool is always the same - the one that is needed for wood processing. So, before starting work you should prepare:

  • circular saw, electric plane (ideally a woodworking machine on which you can quickly and easily prepare all the parts);
  • hacksaw and jigsaw;
  • hammer;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • nail puller;
  • level, pencil, tape measure (at least 3 m).

Any woodworking tool is suitable for building a well house.

Having previously made drawings of the house and made simple calculations, you can prepare the material for construction in advance.

For construction wooden structure you will need:

  • timber (rounded, glued);
  • edged board;
  • fasteners (screws, nails);
  • roofing material (roof felt, flexible tiles, slate);
  • hinges, handle and latch (if there is a door).

All wooden parts should be adjusted to size, sanded, processed using protective compounds. Wood impregnated with antiseptics and varnished looks better and lasts longer.

Project No. 1 – a house with a gable roof

So, we are building a roof house for a well or a well, from which water is supplied to the house using pumping station. This is a small room to protect the head of the well rings, and the door is necessary to control the operation of the pump, as well as for cleaning and disinfection.

Well house with door, built in the form of a large roof

Frame construction

The main material for constructing the frame is timber and edged boards. Parts that are too voluminous will make the structure bulky, and too thin will make it fragile, so it’s worth focusing on average parameters: beam cross-section – 80 mm x 100 mm, board thickness – 40 mm. It is necessary to prepare four racks 8 cm wide and four edged boards, suitable for the lower and upper frames, 12 cm wide. The boards are sawn to size in advance, then the parts of the frames are nailed to the posts one by one, so that the result is an even and reliable frame. You should pay attention to the fasteners: the length of the nails should be such that they firmly connect the two parts - approximately 10 cm.

The frame diagram clearly shows the places where the upper and lower trims are attached to the racks

The frame is easiest to assemble in next sequence: first connect two racks with boards at the top and bottom, then fasten the remaining two racks in the same way, place both structures around the well shaft and finally connect them together with strappings.

For this project, you can build everything quickly and from scrap materials, since almost any of them - boards, beams - remain at the dacha during the construction of a house or bathhouse.

Roof structure and cladding

The construction of the roof should begin with the installation of rafter trusses - a rigid structure on which the sheathing will be attached. It is better to choose fairly strong boards (at least 3 cm thick), the length of which is 180 cm - the height of the building will depend on the length of these boards. To install the crossbar and jibs, you will need a board of a smaller thickness - 2.5 cm. There should be 8 pieces of jibs, 6 pieces of rafters, 3 crossbars, each length 30 cm.

The distance between the sheathing elements must be the same

Sequence of work:

  • Having cut the rafters at an angle, their upper ends are connected to each other. Self-tapping screws are used as fastening elements. Additionally, a crossbar attached 30 cm below the top point will help to fix the location of the rafters. It is better to carry out all actions by placing the parts on the ground.
  • A cut is made on the rafters in the place where they will connect to the boards of the top trim. Connect the frame and rafters using nails (12 cm long).

Connection diagram of rafters with top harness frame

  • The installation of rafters is strengthened by installing jibs. The trusses are connected using a kind of ridge - two boards, to which the sheathing is subsequently attached. The interval between the sheathing elements is 13-15 cm. The protrusions above both walls of the building are 10 cm.
  • The constructed roof is covered with roofing felt.
  • The slate is mounted on the roofing felt using special fasteners. The corner joints are covered with wind boards.

Door installation

The door to the house is a kind of plank shield that is made in a simple way. Cut boards 85 cm long and 15-20 cm wide, fold them one to one and fasten them together wooden blocks with a cross section of 2.5 cm x 3 cm. Two bars are enough - one at the bottom, the other at the top. Self-tapping screws are used as fasteners, 4 pieces for each board. To ensure that the door retains its shape when moving and the boards do not “walk,” another block is nailed diagonally for rigidity.

The base and frame of the house are practically hidden under the roof, and the door is located above the base, above ground level

After covering the gables, nail down the handle and latch, then hang the door on piano hinges. The final stage is the processing of boards with outside protective equipment from mold and mildew, painting with varnish or special paint for wood to match the neighboring buildings.

Project No. 2 – log house

The next creation is a well house made of timber, made in the classic rustic style. This design of a well can be seen in Russian villages. Rounded logs are stacked in the form of a small log house - the size of a well; a wide roof is erected on top of two massive racks and a gate is installed to raise a bucket of water. The edges of the roof extend beyond the frame so that rainwater did not fall into the well. For stability, the racks are equipped with small supports, which also play a decorative role.

This building has three main parts: a frame base, a gate and a wide roof.

The protruding ends of the logs have figured cutouts, which also serve as decoration for the structure. The roof is covered with brightly colored waterproofing material.

For construction you need:

  • rounded logs for the log house, posts and gates (sizes are selected according to the diameter of the well);
  • edged board for supports and roof;
  • roofing covering (slate, tiles, roofing felt);
  • material for gates with handle.

Scheme of a gate for a well with dimensions (they can be changed, but at your own peril and risk)

Project No. 3 – hexagonal frame

This house is a variant of the previous building with some features. It differs in that the frame is not traditionally quadrangular, but hexagonal. Roof slopes vary in length, so it has an asymmetrical appearance. The well is small in size, but its compactness allows the structure to be used when there is a shortage of space. A wooden wheel is a practical and at the same time decorative element.

A decorative element – a wooden wheel – can be replaced with a handle for convenience

This house can be used to decorate a mine with a pump or simply to decorate the local area.

Structure characteristics:

  • height – 220 cm;
  • base diameter – 120 cm;
  • for construction, a rounded beam with a diameter of 100 mm is required;
  • the gable roof is covered with edged boards;
  • The wood is treated on all sides with a moisture-protecting compound.

Examples of decorating well houses

There are several ways to decorate a building. The traditional way to decorate wooden buildings is carving. A neat carved house for decorating a well in the classic Russian style is suitable for all summer cottages where wood was used in the construction of the main house.

The base and roof of the well house are decorated with carved elements painted in a contrasting color

Decoration also occurs by painting wood in different colors. Using impregnations or varnishes different shades, you can give the structure absolutely opposite shades - from sunny yellow or bleached to dark brown, deliberately aged.

A selection of 6 will also be useful unusual ideas to design a well in the country:

Carved house for a well, decorated with a wooden figure of a bear

Sometimes an additional decoration is installed on the log house - a wooden or ceramic figurine of an animal.

A well house with a decorative element – a wheel for a gate in a “marine” style

Of course, any country house building is not just decor, but also the embodiment of a person’s views and taste, so every owner knows how to make a house for a well so that it is both practically useful and reflects the individuality of the owner.
