How to make a wooden bed?

Before you begin the process of manufacturing parts, you need to prepare the room. If you are making furniture in a living room, pre-cover the floor and furniture with film. Since during the work there will be a lot of dust from wood shavings.

Important: in order for the furniture to be truly reliable and durable, it is necessary to use special groove-to-groove carpentry joints during its assembly. The dimensions of the groove are selected individually based on the thickness of the timber, board or slats. Such products will resist mechanical stress well.

Any children's bed should consist of the following elements:

  • frame;
  • sidewalls;
  • slats;
  • backrest;
  • legs

The frame should be made from well-planed wood. Lamellas can be purchased ready-made at furniture store, or make it yourself from birch or pine. Placed on the base of the lamellas at a distance of 5 cm from each other. Sidewalls on a child's bed are required for safety reasons. That is, if your baby twists and turns in his sleep, then their presence will prevent him from falling out of bed while sleeping.

The manufacture of a children's bed is carried out in the following sequence:

Important: During assembly of the product, all screws must be screwed deeply into the product. Then they can be puttied or closed with special plastic plugs.

In contact with

Sooner or later, every young parent is faced with the problem of acquiring children's place sleep. A high-quality wooden bed is quite expensive. However, if you get creative and put in enough effort, you can end up with a comfortable sleeping place for your baby. is not something complicated, it is quite possible to make it using ready-made blueprints And photo

in the Internet. If you have the tools, some skills and desire, then creating a designer crib with your own hands is a matter of time. Having selected the material, you can cut out the required parts for a fee. It is easy to purchase various plywood, boards, laminated chipboard, ready-made bars and fasteners. The main thing is to take your time and remember that you are working for quality.

When you decide to start making a baby crib with your own hands, you need to decide on its type:

  1. Baby crib rocking chair.
  2. An original crib, for example, a car crib.

Then prepare necessary tool. Such as: screwdriver, hammer, screwdrivers, jigsaw, pliers, measuring tool and level.

Well, the main thing is to prepare the materials from which, in fact, the crib will be assembled. That is, boards, plywood, blocks of wood. It is important to select high-quality fasteners, due to which all furniture elements are fixed.

The crib must be made from natural materials, and fasteners should be chosen of high quality

When choosing a material, first of all, it is worth considering that a wooden bed is perfect place, where you can gain strength for tomorrow. High-quality wood is natural and does not cause allergic reactions, does not emit harmful substances when directly sunlight, looks good and is durable. According to most experts, the optimal crib should be made from natural wood.

The most popular type is the classic baby crib, which looks like this:

To make this you need:

  • Sides 85.4 x 134.0 cm – 2 pcs.;
  • Side strips (top) 6.0 x 134.0 cm – 2 pcs.;
  • Headboard and footboard part of the crib () 71.2 x 71.1 cm – 2 pcs.;
  • Bed bottom 130.5 x 71.1 cm – 1 piece;
  • Bottom support (front and rear slats), block 3.2 x 3.2 x 60.0 cm – 2 pcs.;
  • Bottom support (side bars), block 3.2 x 3.2 x 120.0 cm – 2 pcs.;
  • Round wooden rods for side railing, diameter 1.2 cm, length 61.4 cm – 38 pcs.
  • Screws size 4 x 45 mm

When all the details have been prepared and photos and drawings have been studied, you can start assembling the crib with your own hands:

  1. First we make the sides of the crib. We take blanks for them and draw a line, retreating 20 cm from the bottom. The width of the side frame is 6 cm. Having drawn a line for the central part of the side, we proceed to cutting it out (see picture). This can be done, for example, with a jigsaw.
  2. Next we start cutting out the legs. To do this, we make two marks at 15 cm and 11.5 cm and connect them smoothly, making a rounded corner. We also smoothly draw a rounded corner for the inside of the leg, stepping back the width of the leg by 6 cm. Using this principle, we cut out the remaining three legs.
  3. Then, as in the figure below, we mark the position of the first rod of our sidewall. To do this, step back 4.96 cm from the side and mark the edge of the hole of the rod, then step back 1.2 cm (that is, the width of the rod). Then we retreat 4.96 cm again and repeat the steps above along the entire lower frame of the crib. We get 19 equally distributed rods.
  4. Similarly, we measure and drill the same holes for the rods in the upper strips of the side panels.
  5. We fill these holes well with regular PVA glue and insert our wooden fencing rods into them. They should fit tightly. Place the sides on flat surface until completely dry. Using measuring instruments, for example, a square, straighten the rods again and leave it overnight. It's better to have more glue. Excess glue that is squeezed out of the holes can then be easily removed with a slightly dampened cloth.
  6. Similarly, pour glue into the holes of the upper side strips and install them in place. Do not forget to constantly level the structure, wait for the glue to dry.
    The result was two finished sides of the future children's bed.
  7. We fasten the remaining panels (future headboard and footboard) to these sides with screws. The screws must be recessed and their heads cannot be felt. We don’t worry about these holes; later they will be filled and sanded.
  8. To prevent the bottom from collapsing, we install prepared planks to support it. We fix them with screws (distance 1.0 cm from the bottom of our frames).
  9. The last step is to insert the remaining part, which will be the bottom of the future crib.

Important: To add stability, you can add a pair of crossbars between the legs of the crib, as shown below:

It is better to sand the elements of the crib

Use high quality, non-toxic materials, preferably on water based.

Getting a beautiful bed for your baby is not difficult if you do everything conscientiously and with love.

Don't neglect high-quality finishing, otherwise the crib will look like a failed experiment. However, if you put in the proper effort, you will end up with a wonderful, exclusive product.

It is also necessary to think about the decoration of the crib.

The crib can be on wheels

Making an interesting rocking crib with your own hands is a little more difficult. The parts for it are also made from plywood sheets. The wooden rods that will be the balusters are made independently from plywood by gluing two parts (blanks). To assemble one with your own hands, prepare:

  • front and back parts (backs) 82.8x62.0x1.8 cm - 2 pcs.;
  • shelf – 90.0x45.0x1.8 cm;
  • side wall – 90.0x27.0x1.8 cm;
  • handrails 90.0x0.4x1.8 cm – 2 pcs.;
  • supports (bars) 6.0x1.8x1.8 cm - 2 pcs.;
  • runners 76.0x8.0x1.5 cm – 4 pcs.;
  • stoppers 19.0x7.0x1.5 cm – 4 pcs.;
  • lining for walls (if desired) 68.0x47.0x1.5 cm - 2 parts;
  • side wall overlay (if desired) 80.0x9.0x1.5 cm;
  • base – 90.0x47.0x1.5 cm;
  • elements for rods (balusters) 24.0x2.5x0.4 cm – 40 parts

Assembly diagram for a baby crib - rocking chair

First you need to draw all the necessary details on plywood and carefully cut them out. Then start making rods that will serve as balusters. To do this, glue two parts together, giving them a slight bend, and clamp them with clamps. After drying, the parts will straighten slightly. This is not a big deal, however, it must be taken into account for the following rods. Sand well and round the edges. This must be done very efficiently and carefully with the upper edges of the panels and handrails so that the grown-up baby does not damage his hands. This can be easily done with a milling machine. Next, make holes for fasteners (dowels) in the sides. For the best effect, it is advisable to take a special drill with a limiter (stop).

Drawing of a rocking chair - cradle

Make grooves in the handrails and sides so that baluster rods can be inserted. Fill the grooves with PVA glue and insert the rods into them (between the handrails and side rails). Smooth all the elements well by wiping them with sandpaper. Give the rods a slight bend when gluing, this will visually decorate the crib. WITH inside After assembly, the fencing should have the curved side of the rods (balusters).

A wooden rocking crib will help your child calm down and fall asleep faster.

Add two plywood stops to the support rails to prevent the structure from tipping over when rocking. Make them from plywood 1.5 cm thick. Screw the resulting parts with self-tapping screws, and the front and back wall secure with dowels and glue with runners. Prime the entire surface. Wait until the structure dries and paint all the details, preferably water-based paint. Do not use varnishes and oil paints; their smell does not disappear for a long time and negatively affects the child’s health.

Crib machine

These are used for older children who have already outgrown their first cribs. It’s easy to make it yourself; there are many photos and drawings on the Internet that can be decorated with any additional elements. Everything is limited only by your imagination. As with the above options, first decide on a sketch. Draw your child’s “car” from different angles.

Baby cot - machine

We choose the material. Most often, this type of furniture is made from chipboard or MDF sheets. In addition, you need to choose the material for the bottom, timber for support and self-tapping screws. Also, furniture of this size is often installed on casters in order to move it around the room without any problems. First, a strong frame is made, because the child will most likely actively play on it. Then they are attached decorative elements.

Manufacturing depends on individual design, make a car crib with your own hands based on ready-made drawings, studying a photo of a “car” suitable for your child. Whatever crib you decide to make with your own hands, your child will appreciate your efforts and love you even more. Good luck in your work!

For the proper development of a child, it is important not only the play area, but also the recreation area. The life of a child is associated with play, with copying the everyday life of adults, and if you have a desire, you can greatly diversify the life of your children by making beds for children with your own hands, for example, in the form of a car, a house, or even a ship.

Such a bed can be purchased in a store, but it will cost a lot of money and, as a rule, furniture with such a design is not mass-produced, but individual order production is not easy to implement, as it requires large costs. Therefore, the cost of such furniture has always been high. But you can make a crib for a newborn with your own hands according to drawings and photos.

What material to choose for making a bed for children with your own hands

In order to make a children's bed yourself, you need to purchase some materials and tools. It is best to make baby cribs from wood with your own hands; these are suitable for this purpose. conifers: pine, cedar, spruce. You can use plywood or MDF. It all depends on your capabilities and abilities.

When making beds for children with your own hands, it is preferable to use natural wood, as it is more environmentally friendly than other materials. Wooden furniture has always been highly valued for its qualities, which include strength, durability of the product, and beauty. Using wooden bed, children's sleep It will be much stronger and calmer. But before you begin the creation process, you need to purchase a mattress. Because the stock will be made exactly according to its dimensions. And it doesn’t matter whether you make a bed for a girl with your own hands or for a boy. It is better to buy a mattress in a store. Good modern industry makes them for every taste.

Choosing a mattress

When purchasing, you just need to take into account some features of the product you are purchasing:

You also need to take care of purchasing paint and varnish materials. you can choose a shade depending on whether you are making a bed for a boy or a girl with your own hands. Well, in addition, you will need to purchase wood glue for possible connection of parts of the structure being created.

What paint is best to use when painting a crib?

In furniture manufacturing industries, as a rule, oil paints are used, they add antiseptics to protect wood from rotting, and they give the products a bright color. This has a positive effect on appearance products.

The varnishes used to cover the surface of the bed are water-based. They highlight texture and are pleasant to the touch. But there is no need to wash the surface treated with such products with active detergents, as it quickly becomes unusable. It will be enough to wipe the surface with a damp cloth. To paint a homemade children's bed, you should buy compositions with non-toxic components.

In this case good option May be:

Some people want to see the wood grain makeshift bed, not covered with paint, then it is necessary to apply acrylic lacquer. It has no pungent odor and can withstand ultra-violet rays. All other varnishes are either highly toxic or short-lived.

If it is possible to purchase more expensive types of wood, such as ash, larch, your product will look richer, but remember that these types are more difficult to work with, since they have a completely different, (more dense) wood structure and are difficult to process.

All materials can be purchased at hardware or specialized stores and timber trading centers.

Painting a crib

Paints on acrylic base cover furniture when finishing. The process is simple, but it takes time.

Before painting the surface, you must carry out the following steps:

  1. Disassemble the bed into its component parts.
  2. Prepare surfaces for painting: sand the surface with sandpaper. If there are old layers of paint or varnish, treat them with remover and remove them with a spatula.
  3. Degrease the surface, especially if there are resinous places in the form of knots on it. This can be done with any solvent (it is better to use solvent or turpentine).
  4. If necessary, repair minor surface damage with putty.
  5. Before painting, after sanding, be sure to prime the surface.
  6. Apply paint or varnish (at least three layers) using a brush, paint roller, sponge or rag. You can use a spray gun, but this will result in a large consumption of paint and varnish material.

After applying the first layer of paint or varnish to a previously primed surface, you need to wait until it dries. The painted surface can be sanded again. This is done in order to remove small wood fibers from the surface that have risen as a result of staining. After this, apply two more thin layers of paint or varnish one by one.

It is recommended to carry out work on making a bed and carrying out paint and varnish finishing outside the living space, preferably in a specially designated room for household needs.

What tool do you need to have?

To make a children's bed with your own hands at home, you will need a minimum of tools. As a rule, every owner has everything he needs in a drawer.

To make a sleeping place for a child, you will need:

  1. Plane. Necessary for possible trimming of the ends when assembling a do-it-yourself crib from wood.
  2. Drill with a set of different drill bits
  3. with a set of bits or just a set of screwdrivers, but it is better to have both tools.
  4. Chisel, hammer or mallet.
  5. Carpentry clamps, you can make them yourself to compress parts while gluing them. It all depends on the complexity of the project you choose.
  6. A grinding machine with a set of sanding pads, or just sandpaper different grain sizes. But then the processing process will take longer.
  7. An electric jigsaw with a set of saws for sawing wood, plywood, MDF, or a hand saw. But then again the quality and speed of work will be significantly reduced.
  8. You will also need wood screws, furniture fittings to assemble a children's bed.

The number of tools will depend on the materials from which you will make the children's bed. If it is a board, then you need to take into account the degree of its carpentry. In the case when these materials are made of plywood or MDF, their sizes and appearance.

What details are the main ones in the design of a bed?

All the parts for making cribs for children with your own hands can be purchased at ready-made version, and then complete the assembly yourself or purchase a “semi-finished product” and make all the structural components from it, based on the size of your bed.

The main details include:

  • bed legs;
  • tsars, transverse and longitudinal;
  • slats for setting the bottom of the bed;
  • headboard;
  • side guards.

All the above parts connected together form the basis of the product. The methods for assembling a children's wooden bed with your own hands and attaching the parts may be different, as it depends on the design features and the material from which it is made.

For example, if the bed is made of wood:

  1. The drawers must be well planed and sanded. Make grooves in them for installing slats on which the mattress will lie. The distance between the holes should be no more than 5 cm. This indentation is necessary to prevent the mattress from falling through the cracks between the slats, which will lead to premature wear of the mattress. The slats are either glued to the frames or screwed with self-tapping screws.
  2. Side rails are designed to prevent a child from falling out of bed while sleeping. Making your own children's bed with sides will help protect your baby from injury. They are attached to the backs of the structure using self-tapping screws, or they can be inserted into pre-prepared grooves.
  3. Bed headboards can be of different designs. If the system is framed, then it can be filled with a plywood panel, which is easy to make yourself, or you can order it from craftsmen to make a wooden panel, but this will cost more.

After assembling the bed, the question arises about choosing decor for the product. Inaccuracies made during the manufacture of parts will appear during the assembly process in the form of cracks. If there are any on wooden product, they will need to be covered with putty and subsequently cleaned with sandpaper.

It is also necessary to prepare a primer, stain and varnish. We must not forget that paint and varnish materials must be environmentally friendly, since the bed is made for a child.

What design of a children's bed to choose

There are many options on how to make a child’s bed yourself. Which model to create depends primarily on your skill.

When choosing a design, you must take into account:

  • dimensions of the children's room;
  • child's age;
  • the child's wishes;
  • your capabilities.

If you are looking for how to make a bed for a girl with your own hands, you can consider several options. For example, it is not difficult to make a two-tier bed: with a bed at the bottom and at the top, if you have two children. A two-tier bed is also suitable for one child. In the area of the second tier you can make a bed for relaxation, that is, a bed itself. And the lower part will be a play area, or combine play and work areas. For example, put there desk where the child will do his homework. You can make improvised windows from fabric and give the bed an image small house. Since making a bed for a child yourself is not difficult, you can get creative and create something very original. For example, build a baby rocking bed with your own hands using drawings and photos from the Internet.

Crib in the form of a house

If you want to make your own children's bed from 3 years old, we offer an option in the form of a house. Such a design is not difficult to manufacture and with the minimum of tools listed above, you can safely get to work. When making such a bed yourself, you can adhere to a free style and experiment with proportions and colors, while taking into account the preferences of children.

As an example, let's take a bed design with dimensions:

  • height 178 cm;
  • length 175 cm;
  • width 91 cm;
  • mattress measuring 80 x 165 cm.

Tool:

  • hacksaw or electric jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • drills with a diameter of 6, 10 mm;
  • measuring instrument, pencil, ruler, square, tape measure;
  • wood glue;
  • sandpaper for grinding and cleaning the surface;
  • self-tapping screws size: 4.5 x 30, 6 x 70 mm;
  • wood glue for gluing parts together.

For this design you need to take 13 bars square section, preferably 45 x 45, the length of the beam should be:

  • standing supports 1200 mm – 4 pcs;
  • cross beam 829 mm – 2 pcs;
  • roof rafters 730 mm – 4 pcs;
  • axial bars for roof 1660 mm – 3 pcs.

To make the bottom of the bed, two beams are suitable, the size of which is 38 x 67 x 1660 mm and 2 slats 9 x 67 x 1660 mm, as well as slats.

Since we need to make a bed house for a child with a roof, we choose a gable option so that the parts fit tightly together, we file the upper edges at an angle of 45 degrees.

To make the walls, we use 1200 mm long posts in this design. They will act as load-bearing supports to which the roof of the bed - house - will be attached. For its manufacture we use timber 730 mm long.

Bed in the shape of a car

Your children's delight will know no bounds. What are the features of making this type of bed? Considering the activity of kids, it doesn’t matter to them whether this is a regular design or whether it has play functions. A child's bed is subject to greater stress, despite significant differences in weight.

Features of the crib-car:

  1. An important requirement for such a product is the strength of this design.
  2. When creating, you should take into account the dimensions and make it for growth, since in this case you won’t be able to make an extendable children’s bed with your own hands.
  3. Equally important is compliance with safety during registration and further operation. This refers to the selection of paints and varnishes, the material from which the bed itself is made, various stickers and electric lighting. All this must comply with a certain safety class.

When making a bed frame - a machine, you need to take into account your experience and the weight of your child. The base is a frame structure with legs, or a box, which is reinforced with transverse crossbars. When making a car bed for a boy with your own hands, a beam with a cross section of 50 x 70 mm is used; during assembly, the frame is reinforced with metal corners. The headboard and headboard, as well as the sides, are attached to it. We must not forget that the size of the frame must correspond to the size of the mattress, a difference of +1.2 cm is allowed.

It is preferable to make the bottom of the frame where the mattress will be placed from slats, although it can, if necessary, be made solid from plywood 10 mm thick.

The main design detail of this design will be the side panels, imitating the silhouette of a car. They are made from plywood, chipboard or MDF. It can be made from wood, but if you do not have the skills to glue wood, then it is better to choose any of the above materials.

Assembling a machine bed

First, you need to develop a design for a children's bed. A specific car model is taken as a sample. Here it is important to observe the parameters, colors, and line bends. In general, you will need a design drawing. Then you need to make a template for the part and cut the material according to it. Also, using the children's bed project with your own hands, you need to prepare the details of the headboard and footboard of the bed. Next is your improvisation and imagination: you can make headlights and a car bumper by drawing them, or you can make them from scrap materials.

The machine can make a children's bed in two ways:

  1. All decorative elements are attached to a wooden frame.
  2. The composite decorative elements themselves, depicting the outline of the car, are a frame.

In both cases, you will need to make your own drawings of children's beds. The blanks are made using templates, cut out of plywood or MDF using a power tool, the edges must be sanded, and thermal tape is glued to them.

Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to equip this bed design with fake wheels and a steering wheel. But masters do not always create such details. The presence of a steering wheel can create problems in maintaining the bed. But you can draw the wheels or make them yourself, this will complicate the design a little, but what can you do for your beloved children. The bed can also be equipped with night lights and installed in the form of sidelights and car headlights.

As you already understand, the choice of materials for this crib design is quite extensive. When using plywood, furniture wood panel or MDF, on this type It will take 1-2 sheets. You can purchase confirmations and keys to them at a hardware store. Using screws you will connect the parts of the bed - cars.

The holes into which fastening materials enter are best closed with plugs, or, at worst, puttied. But if it becomes necessary to tighten the fasteners, the putty will have to be picked out for a long time, and it will clog the screwdriver socket. Therefore, it is better to stick to plugs. The drawer fastenings must be reinforced with metal corners, this will strengthen your structure as a whole.

6 basic steps on how to assemble a bed machine

  1. We assemble the frame in the form of a frame structure or assemble a box with the installation of partitions. It is better to fasten parts using confirmations, having previously drilled holes for them.
  2. Prepare the sides and end backs by cutting them according to a template from plywood or MDF, or other material.
  3. Carry out an approximate assembly of the structure in order to identify and eliminate errors during the manufacture of bed parts. After removing defects or if there are none, the parts are prepared for painting.
  4. In a bed model where the side decorative structures are the frame, preliminary assembly is also required.
  5. After painting and subsequent drying, the bed parts are assembled using self-tapping screws and confirmators. The screw heads must be hidden with plugs. Rollers can be installed at the bottom of the bed frame if desired.
  6. The last step will be to decorate your crib - car with various attributes, such as a steering wheel, imitation car tires, headlights and so on. It all depends on your imagination.

A bunk bed for children or teenagers can also be made from metal, but not everyone will have a neat welded structure, and the appearance of such sleeping places is not very childish. Therefore, we will consider making beds from wood and lumber, since these are inexpensive and easy-to-work materials, warm, beautiful and homely.

Bed frame materials

Scroll wood materials, from which you can make a bed, is quite long. Let's highlight the most common ones.

1. Array. Expensive material and quite difficult to prepare and manufacture if you do not have experience working with it. Experience is important here. Although products made from solid wood are the most beautiful and durable, they still don’t use a children’s bed for very long - children grow up and begin to need other sleeping places.

2. Lumber - edged or planed boards, timber - the most common and easy-to-work materials, provided that you are confident in proper drying, otherwise the supporting structure may fail.

3. MDF - wood fiber board. The formaldehyde emission of the material is at the same level as that of ordinary wood. When drilling, it generates dust without forming chips. Laminated MDF looks very attractive. An uncoated slab requires additional finishing, such as varnishing. Can be ordered individual elements beds in a furniture shop or sawing shop: everything will be carefully cut out and the edges will be glued on.

4. Chipboard - particle board. Formaldehyde emissions are increased without a sealed coating, excluding class E1 slabs. Easy to saw, but does not hold screws well. Suitable for unloaded parts, such as drawers mounted under the bottom of the bed. You can make backrests and decorative panels from laminated chipboard (laminated chipboard) - the film coating prevents formaldehyde from evaporating, but it is important that the ends of the plates are also covered with film.

5. Furniture board - a board glued together from individual blocks of natural wood. Beautiful, durable, even allows you to carve, but requires skill in operation, as it has internal stresses that must be taken into account.

When purchasing fittings, you should give preference to steel hardware. Aluminum ones are much less durable and rigid.

Methods for connecting wooden knots

When making a bed you may need various connections horizontally, vertically, forming corners. This can be done in various ways. We present some of them for your reference.

1 - half-tree connection; 2 - “claw” connection

1 - complete cutting; 2—cutting is not complete; 3 - steel corner

1 - connection with rectangular keys; 2 - connection with dovetail keys; 3 - connection to the main tenon

Design options (drawings and decor)

Bunk beds can have different designs and be decorated in a variety of ways. So, the upper tier can be located exactly above the lower one, offset, leaving space for a cabinet, or perpendicular to it. The staircase may consist of drawers. Another option is steps, which are hinged lids on drawers. The bed frame can also be supplemented with drawers located under the lower mattress. To do this you will need guides - runners. Sometimes something else is added to the bed: a table, shelves, a pencil case or sports equipment.

Below are drawings of some beds with basic dimensions.

And now a few design ideas that can inspire you to create an original one. bunk bed. Please note how some models use absolutely “waste” materials - slabs, branches, trunks, driftwood.

Method for making a bunk bed

Some of the most inexpensive materials- boards and beams made of pine. It is from these that we will make a two-story bed.

Material calculation

When making a bed, you need to keep in mind that not only a child can sit on the lower bed, so the distance to the bottom of the upper bed should not be less than 85 cm. The size of sleeping places in the case of purchased mattresses is determined by their width and length. If you make your own mattresses from two layers of foam rubber in a cover made of thick fabric, then the sizes are taken based on personal preferences.

The figure below shows the individual elements of the bed, and the table shows the purpose, dimensions and number of pieces.

1 — vertical racks(legs); 2 — external linings for the racks; 3 - boards of the supporting frame; 4 - upper and lower headboard strips; 5 — central headboard bar; 6 — side guards; 7 — staircase railing; 8 - steps of the stairs

Assembly units

A bed is furniture consisting of several assembly units, which are then assembled into a single unit. Identical parts can be cut by holding them together with a vice or clamp, so they will turn out absolutely identical. Before assembly, you need to make sure that everything wooden parts cleaned, smooth and free of burrs. It is better to work with a special wood sander or grinder.

1. Headboard and footboard

These are two almost mirror-like elements. The difference is that the fence rails are built into the footboard as shown in the pictures below.

Installation order: 1 - dowel 8 mm; 2 - the stand and backrest slats are drilled simultaneously; 3 - this part is attached after assembling all other parts of the headboard

2. Elements of the supporting frame

To assemble two supporting frames, you will need four prepared boards - the longitudinal components of the frame. To ensure the reliability of the structure, the longitudinal strip must be glued to the board and additionally screwed with screws to the middle of the thickness of the board. Between the bars glued to the longitudinal support bar of the mattress will be laid cross slats- base for the mattress.

3. Details of stairs and railings

The railing of the fence is simply a processed board, the railing of the stairs is a board with a cut for mounting on the frame. Places for fastening the steps must be marked in advance, and make sure that the screws for fixing them do not fall on the frame screws.

1 — cutouts 38 mm; 2 — places of fastening of steps; 3 — stair steps, 3 pcs.; 4 - fence

4. Frame assembly

The footboard and headboard are connected at the bottom to the boards of the supporting frame using screws. After this, the transverse slats and mattress holders are laid, and the outermost ones are filed in the corners for tight installation. There is no need to secure them. The second tier is assembled in the same way.

5. Assembling stairs and railings

The stairs and railing are simply fixed to the frame with screws. If desired, the fence can be made on the side of the wall - for the lower and upper beds. Then you will need four more planks.

Now the wood can be painted and varnished, mattresses can be laid - and the bed is ready!

In conclusion, we suggest watching a video about making a bunk crib for real princesses.

Video. Part one

Video. Part two

Making a crib is a responsible task on which the health of the child depends. Safety of design, functionality and environmental friendliness of materials are the three pillars of any modern crib, no matter what price segment it is in.

The author proposes to make a classic model of a crib from unpainted wood with the ability to adjust the height of the mattress. In addition, you will learn how to make a children's mattress with your own hands and how to choose the right filling.

To make a baby crib with your own hands you will need:

Materials:
- glued furniture board or non-waterproof plywood for making a frame with a thickness of 8 - 15 mm;
- a block 35 x 35 or 40 x 40 mm for making a frame;
- slats with a thickness of 15 - 20 mm for the manufacture of sheathing;
- wood glue;
- natural linseed or quick-drying furniture oil for wood processing;
- furniture screws, self-tapping screws;
- furniture dowels 8 mm;
- furniture bolts and nuts for assembling frame elements;
- dense furniture foam rubber of high rigidity;
- padding polyester for mattresses and soft bumpers;
- fabric for making a mattress cover, zipper;
- fabric for making soft bumpers.

Tools:
- jigsaw or hand-held circular saw;
- Miter saw;
- manual milling cutter for making grooves;
- clamps;
- sander;
- drill;
- screwdriver;
- wrench, screwdriver;
- sewing machine, iron, scissors;
- a sharp knife for cutting foam rubber;
- construction tape, square, ruler;
- marker.

Manufacturing process
Step one: making side shields
The author made the side elements of the frame from furniture board and wooden blocks. Furniture board is absolutely natural material, which is a wooden sheet made by gluing together boards of different widths.

Even we're talking about about the manufacture of children's furniture, the furniture board can be replaced with plywood. To the choice of plywood in this case must be used responsibly, as some types can be toxic.

You will need first or second grade plywood marked FK or FBA. Both types are harmless and recommended for making children's furniture. Remember that such plywood is not moisture resistant and requires additional coating.

Prepare two pieces of furniture board or plywood for the side walls of the crib. Mark and cut out a recess at the base for the legs. Use a drill and jigsaw for this.

Also prepare pieces of timber for making the frame of the panels. They are sawn off at an angle of 135 degrees and fixed to the board using glue and furniture dowels. Use beech dowels with a diameter of 8 mm.

Step two: making lattice sides
The sides of the crib are made of natural wood. You will need thin slats and bars with a cross section of 35 x 35 or 40 x 40 mm.
Prepare horizontal guides. Pre-sand the wood and round the corners. Mark the grooves using a template.

The author cut out the grooves manual router. You can also use it to cut tenons on the sheathing. To do this, assemble the sheathing parts and temporarily fasten them together. Mark and process the workpieces on 4 sides as shown in the photo.
Assemble the sides using glue.

Step three: assembling the perimeter of the crib
Connect the side elements of the frame and the side. To do this, mark and drill through holes for bolts in the sidewalls. To fix the bolts, the author uses furniture barrel nuts with a hole for a flat-head screwdriver. The holes for the nuts are located on the sides. Mark the nut into the hole and tighten the bolt so that it fits into the nut hole. While screwing in the bolt, hold the nut with a screwdriver.

Step four: making the crib frame
Assemble the bed frame on dowels. Use wood glue. The author uses bars as lathing. You can also purchase ready-made slats with fasteners. They create a spring base and at the same time have amazing strength. The slats will significantly extend the life of the mattress and allow it to breathe. The most unsuitable base for a mattress is a solid panel flooring.

Step five: assembling the crib frame
In order to install the frame, place a couple of bars on the bottom trim as shown in the photo. Secure the frame from below with clamps. Drill holes in the sides for the bolts. The drill must also pass through the plane of the external frame trim.
Place the bolts into the resulting holes and tighten with nuts from the inside. Now the temporary bars can be removed.

The author also provided for installing the base of the crib in the second - upper position. This is very convenient while the child is small and cannot get up on his own. In this position, it is easier for mom to get him out of the crib without bending down to the very base.

Remove the base. You will need 4 small pieces of wood. Drill through holes for the bolt and install the bars on the same fasteners as the base before. Attach stops made of thin boards or veneer to the base frame in the center.

Step six: making the mattress
The crib mattress is made of furniture foam rubber. Please note that furniture foam rubber has completely different hardness according to its marking. One might assume that a child needs a soft mattress, but here the situation is just the opposite. After all, to form correct posture, children need a fairly rigid sleeping place.

You will need two pieces of foam rubber according to the size of the mattress. Thus, the thickness of the mattress will be 10 cm. For the top layer, choose foam rubber with a hardness above average. Under no circumstances should you buy memory foam, as in rare cases it can cause suffocation for newborns. For the bottom layer, if desired, you can use medium-hard foam.

Glue two layers of foam rubber together with non-flammable glue, which is usually used by furniture makers. Wrap the resulting foam blank in a layer of padding polyester and place it in a fabric cover. The author connected the layers of foam rubber with a strong thread.

Fabric cover for children's mattress usually equipped with a zipper. To sew it, only natural fabrics are used - most often cotton, linen, and in Lately- bamboo.

Choose durable fabrics with a density of at least 180 g per 1 square meter. m., for example teak or jacquard weave fabrics.
