It is advisable to use solid sheets for cladding walls and ceilings. Their number must be calculated in advance. Standard size plasterboard sheet is 2500 by 1200 mm. The sheet area is exactly three square meters. There are also non-standard sizes plasterboard: length from 1500 to 4000 mm, width from 600 to 1500 mm, thickness from 6.5 to 24 mm, so be sure to check the size with the seller before purchasing. Whole gypsum boards can only be used for cladding large areas, and when renovating a small apartment it will have to be cut to the required size.

Types of drywall

Drywall is available in four types, depending on its properties and application:

  2. GKVL- plasterboard with reduced water absorption for use in wet rooms. This sheet of drywall absorbs less than 10% of water, having special resistance to moisture penetration. On specially treated surfaces of GKVL cardboard cladding, mold does not form and fungi do not appear.
  3. GKLO- used where fire prevention is important, fire-resistant plasterboard. The core of such a sheet is reinforced with special strengthening additives.
  4. GKLVO- plasterboard with high resistance to open flames and increased moisture resistance. Essentially, this is a symbiosis of a fire-resistant plasterboard sheet with a moisture-resistant plasterboard sheet.

Using drywall

Tongue-and-groove slabs are especially relevant in areas with unstable seismic conditions. Creating Round Shapes

An important property of drywall is its ability to take on a rounded shape, which makes its scope wide. The desired shape is obtained quite simply: you need to moisten the plasterboard board, wait until it is properly moistened, and then bend it as needed in a particular case. After this, the drywall is dried. It is noteworthy that after hardening, the technical characteristics of Knauf sheets completely return to the original ones.

Types of plasterboard sheets

There are ceiling, wall and arched plasterboards. The fact that the sheets of this material are flat makes it easy to correct uneven walls or ceilings. In this case, there is no need for further plastering of surfaces.

The geometric dimensions of the Knauf gypsum boards are very diverse. Length - from 2000 cm to 4000 cm (in increments of 50) and width - from 600 cm to 1200 cm. Thickness is: 0.65, 0.8, 0.95, 1.25, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.4 cm - depending on purpose of the material.

The standard one is 2500 by 1200 cm. The area of ​​such a sheet is equal to three square meters. They are as follows in thickness:

Using special tools, you can cut out parts of any size and shape, as well as make the necessary holes in them. The fact that marking and cutting holes, for example, for sockets and switches, is possible outside the installation site, allows us to significantly reduce the time required for work.

If we compare finishing with plasterboard with finishing with plaster and putty, it is obvious that in the first case the work is completed twice as fast. Types of drywall

Depending on the area of ​​application, properties and technical characteristics, plasterboard can be different types. At the same time, the size of Knauf drywall can also be different. Drywall can be ordinary, moisture-fire-resistant, fire-resistant and moisture-resistant.

1. Regular drywall is usually beige in color, and the lettering on it is blue. This type of plasterboard is used for cladding ceilings and walls, and also, using a metal profile, for the construction of partitions in rooms with normal level humidity.

This type of drywall can have the following parameters:

  • sheet length from 2500 to 4000 mm, sheet thickness 9.5 mm, sheet width 1200 mm, weight 9.5 kg;
  • sheet length from 2500 to 4000 mm, sheet thickness 12.5 mm, sheet width 1200 mm, weight 12.5 kg;
  • sheet length from 2500 to 4000 mm, sheet thickness 15 mm, sheet width 1200 mm, weight 15 kg;
  • sheet length from 2000 to 3500 mm, sheet thickness 9.5 mm, sheet width 600 mm, weight 18 kg.

2. Moisture resistant sheets drywall are green and have blue lettering. This type of drywall is used in rooms with high humidity– in the bathroom, in the kitchen, and also as a base for ceramic tiles. In this type of drywall, both the core and the cardboard itself are treated with a composition that prevents moisture absorption, so you will not have problems with mold and mildew. Moisture resistant sheets are often between 2500mm and 4000mm long, 1200mm wide and 9.5mm to 15mm thick.

3. Fireproof plasterboard sheets are painted in beige color and red inscriptions. Most often this type is used in rooms with special fire safety requirements, and also in order to build attic spaces. It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the core of such drywall has additional reinforcement, which includes at least 0.2% of the total weight of all fiberglass threads having a length of 3 to 30 mm. Thanks to this, it can maintain its integrity much longer in the event of a fire.

Sheets of such plasterboard can be from 2500 to 4000 mm long, 1200 mm wide and 12.5 and 15 mm thick. These sheets weigh from 10 to 16 kg.

4. Moisture- and fire-resistant plasterboard sheets are painted green and have red lettering. It has the properties of the two types described above. It is used in areas that may be exposed to high temperatures and moisture. The sheets are exactly the same dimensions as fireproof.

Application area:

The application process includes the following main stages of work:
— Marking the design position of a structure made of KNAUF plasterboard sheets (GKL).
— Installation of a frame made of KNAUF profiles for fastening KNAUF plasterboard sheets (GKL).
— Installation and fastening of KNAUF plasterboard sheets (GKL) on the frame.
— Sealing the seams between KNAUF plasterboard sheets (GKL) and the recesses from the screws with KNAUF-Fugen putty (Fugenfüller).
— Priming the surface for finishing coatings.

Recommendations:
— Installation should be carried out within the period finishing works(V winter time with the heating connected), until the installation of clean floors, when all “wet” processes are completed and the wiring of electrical and plumbing systems has been completed, under dry and normal humidity conditions in accordance with SNiP 02/23/2003 “Thermal protection of buildings”. In this case, the room temperature should not be lower than 10°C.
— Before installation, KNAUF plasterboard sheets (GKL) must undergo mandatory acclimatization (adaptation) in the room.
— The end edges of KNAUF plasterboard sheets (GKL) have rectangular shape, when making a seam, it is necessary to chamfer them (approximately 1/3 of the sheet thickness).
