Wildflowers: a summer trip in July through the hills of the Moscow region to the Dubna River. Development of the creative potential of students in extracurricular activities

In the vast expanses of our Motherland - in the tundra and steppes, in the mountains and on the plains, in swamps and fields - over twenty thousand wild and ornamental plants grow. These include two thousand different trees and shrubs, and the remaining eighteen thousand are herbaceous plants. What are they? First of all, it is a life form, consisting of a root system and shoots (stems and leaves), and capable of enduring the cold season for one or several years in a row.

early flowers

Under the influence of the spring sun, the color of the svidina bark becomes red, the aspen bark acquires a greenish tint. In trees and shrubs, active swelling of the buds begins, and in coniferous plants, green pigments are renewed.

At this time, early representatives of perennial herbaceous plants begin to modestly peek out from under the snow cover. Their name speaks for itself, associating with the first thaw: snowdrops. These wonderful flowers are listed in the Red Book. In urban areas, they can be found infrequently due to compacted soil and lack of bedding. Unfortunately, these representatives of perennial herbaceous plants are an attractive object for collecting for the purpose of further sale, and therefore are endangered.

On wastelands, slopes, near construction sites, you can also find early "wild" flowering herbaceous plants. These include white anemone (oak), liverwort, yellow anemone (buttercup), goose bows, corydalis.

A little later, yellow coltsfoot inflorescences appear. This is a perennial pioneer plant, the first to populate new territories. In early spring, only flower-bearing shoots grow at the coltsfoot, but closer to the middle of summer, large ones appear. beautiful leaves with a smooth surface.

Simultaneously with the coltsfoot, such a perennial herbaceous plant as butterbur blooms. At the very beginning of spring, its shy inflorescences with dark red petals appear on the surface of the soil, and it also prefers to unfold wide leaves in the middle of summer.

What do herbaceous plants look like?

The most common sign of this life form is the fact that they do not have a perennial ground part that can survive bad time year or season. However, this criterion applies only to those plants that live in a variable seasonal climate: "summer-winter". A perennial herbaceous plant that grows in the territories of the southern tropics or deserts, gets a very impressive size. Such growth is achieved precisely due to the presence of a perennial aerial part.

In this regard, in order to distinguish between herbaceousness, biologists use another criterion - the fact that there is no lignification of the ground part, which must be juicy, fleshy, incapable of secondary thickening, and also highly diluted soft tissues. But even these signs do not always work. The fact is that trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants are separated by many intermediate forms. In addition, lignification in varying degrees is characteristic of many types of herbs.

The structure of a herbaceous plant includes a root system and a shoot. The shoot is formed by leaves, stem and flower part.

Let's look at the main types of herbaceous plants.

Variety of species

Perennial grasses have underground or creeping stems that exist for several years. Above-ground shoots have a much shorter lifespan: they tend to die off completely after a year. Renewal buds remain in their place, from which new shoots grow.

herbaceous plants- annuals by the end of the growing season or at the end of flowering and fruiting finally die off. The following season, they reappear from seed. Annuals include the following types herbaceous plants: white gauze, dill, wild radish, camelina sowing. Thus, during one season they have time to completely go through the whole life cycle.

The genus of perennial herbaceous plants also includes herbal biennials. Justifying its name this species lives for two years. During the first year, a shoot is formed, which has rosettes of basal leaves and a taproot. Only in the second year does a flowering shoot begin to develop. At the end of the flowering and fruiting phase, the entire plant dies.

The genus of biennial herbaceous plants differs from annuals in the remnants of last year's leaves on the base of the stem, and from perennials in the absence of a rhizome, tuber or bulb. In addition, two-year-olds do not have traces of last year's dead stems.

A perennial herbaceous plant also tends to die off at the end of the growing season. Despite this, a significant part of the plant remains alive underground during the breaks between seasons. With the beginning of the warm period, new roots and a young stem begin to develop from living tissue. Similarly, such forms of underground shoots as bulb, corm, rhizome and tuber develop and grow. This salient feature have all perennial herbaceous plants. Examples of this are parsnips, carrots, mint, peony, ferns. Perennial grasses are divided into four groups among themselves: super-early, early, medium, late. A sign of difference is precocity, or the length of the growing season.

Herbaceous plants differ from non-herbaceous plants in that they lack an aerial stem that remains alive throughout the dormant season. Trees, shrubs and vines in the new year grow shoots from the aerial part.

Of particular interest are fast-growing herbs. Their description is expressed in only one name: pioneer plants. This life form is the first to populate a new habitat, defining an anagene-free species.

Dimensions

There are places where very tall herbaceous plants grow. Examples of this are the Sikhote-Alin mountains, where the height of vegetation reaches from three to three and a half meters. In the Sayans of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the average size of grasses is two meters. Separately, it should be noted giant herbaceous plants, whose names are high larkspur and narrow-leaved fireweed. The size of their stems averages from three to four and a half meters. Umbrella, cereal, aster herbaceous plants are also characterized by a tendency to gigantism. Their names are on our hearing almost every day, and a banana is an example of this. Due to its impressive height (about fifteen meters), it is often called a tree, which is an erroneous estimate. The powerful stem of a banana is not a trunk, so it belongs to herbaceous plants.

If we do not take into account such a sign as the degree of lignification, the tallest vegetation is bamboo. Its stem is a long straw that grows up to thirty-five meters.

Benefits and Applications

Since ancient times, plants and herbs have been used by man to meet his own economic and domestic needs. Their cultivation has also been developed towards use as pet food. Spicy herbaceous plants used in Food Industry. Examples of this are rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano. As a rule, in cooking, herbs are used to improve the taste of food. Such seasonings include dill, parsley, mint, cumin, garlic.

Medicinal herbs have been widely used in medicine at all times. The lavender flower is still used today as the right remedy from insomnia, colds, helps hypertensive and hypotensive patients overcome pressure drops. Sage as a remedy for colds and infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract is used to make tinctures and rinse solutions. Mint, chamomile, wormwood, calendula, plantain and many other meadow herbs are mentioned in the writings of doctors who lived thousands of years ago.

Using herbs to decorate the territory

Herbaceous plants near the house, planted to improve the landscape, belong to the group of ornamental plants. There are many options for beautiful design of the territory. This is the creation of various flower beds, flower beds, borders, groups and arrays, modular flower beds, single plantings, parterres and bosquets, as well as the creation of thematic gardens, consisting of one-, two-, multi-color representatives of the flora.

There is a conditional division of ornamental plants into flowering and decorative foliage. In the process of selecting an assortment, priority is given to flowering plants, in particular, the timing, duration and color of flowering. Some meadow grasses and large-flowered plants can be classified as beautifully flowering, and cereals, ferns, mosses can be classified as ornamental foliage.

agricultural crops

Herbaceous plants used for utilitarian purposes are distinguished into a separate group. As a rule, a separate zone on the site is allocated for their planting and cultivation. With such an arrangement, it is more convenient to care for them, as well as to carry out general preventive treatment against diseases and pests using chemicals. This group of plants has an attractive appearance, so their planting is organized in such a way that they look decorative. To do this, equip walls, spirals, slides and other structures.

curly herbs

When planting miniature vines, the goals associated with the arrangement of small elegant structures are pursued. An example of this is the landscaping of decorative lattices, trellises, fences, decorative arcs, metal structures, containers and so on.

Plants for ponds

In this group, green inhabitants are divided into deep-sea, floating, coastal, oxygen generators and swamps. Oxygenerators live under water all the time, only occasionally raising flowers to the surface. In the first case root system plants are located in the ground at the bottom of the reservoir, and leaves with flowers are at the very top. In the second case, the entire green organism floats on the surface of the water. Coastal herbaceous plants are rooted in underwater soil, and stems with leaves grow in the air. For marsh representatives of the flora, it is important to constantly stay on the shore of a reservoir in moist soil. It must be remembered that each of the above groups of plants performs certain functions that can affect the state of the general environment of the reservoir. In this regard, when choosing an assortment, it is necessary to take into account these factors.

Landing technology

Annual herbaceous plants are planted in the ground in the spring with seedlings or seeds. With the planting of heat-loving species, it is better to wait and wait for the end of all frosts. The vast majority of annuals tolerate transplantation both at the beginning of summer and during the flowering period.

Delenki usually plant a perennial herbaceous plant. The flower is best placed on permanent place spring or early autumn. A plant that blooms in the spring should be transplanted in the fall. You should be aware that after transplantation, each plant begins a period of recovery and rest, during which care for it should be more thorough. This lasts for annuals one to two weeks, for perennials - from one to two growing seasons.

The best types of herbaceous plants

At the right time extraordinary variety select these representatives of the flora suitable look appears to be a difficult task. WILDFLOWERS

In the brilliance of lights, behind mirrored glasses,

Expensive flowers bloom luxuriantly,

Delicate and sweet are their subtle scents,

The leaves and stems are full of beauty.

They were raised in greenhouses carefully,

They were brought from beyond the blue seas;

They are not afraid of cold blizzards,

Stormy thunderstorms and the freshness of nights...

There are modest ones in the fields of my homeland

Sisters and brothers of overseas flowers:

They were raised by fragrant spring

In the greenery of May forests and meadows.

They see not mirror greenhouses,

And the expanse of the sky is blue,

They see not the lights, but the mysterious

Eternal constellations golden pattern.

Bashful beauty emanates from them,

They are dear to the heart and look

And they talk about the long forgotten

Bright days.

K. Paustovsky. Supply grass

Vladimir Sevastyanov
The bell helps in love. About the magical power of the bell in the story of the Russian writer Konstantin Paustovsky "Inlet Grass"...

I picked a large bouquet of these flowers. When I shook it, ripe seeds rumbled in the flowers.
The flowers were unfamiliar, like bells. But with bluebells, the calyx always leans towards the ground, and with these unknown flowers, the dry calyxes stood, stretched upwards.

On the field road I came across two village girls. They must have come from afar. Dusty shoes tied with ribbons hung over their shoulders. They were talking about something, laughing, but when they saw me, they immediately fell silent, hastily straightened their blond hair under their handkerchiefs and angrily pursed their lips.

For some reason, it is always a shame when such tanned, gray-eyed and funny girls, when they see you, immediately put on severity. And it’s even more offensive when, having missed them, you hear restrained laughter behind your back.

I was already ready to be offended, but, having caught up with me, the girls stopped, and both immediately smiled at me so shyly and easily that I was even taken aback. What could be better than this unexpected girlish smile on a deaf field road, when a moist, gentle gleam suddenly appears in the blue depths of the eyes and you stand, surprised, as if in front of you all at once bloomed with all its shining flowers, all in splashes and fragrant charms, a honeysuckle or hawthorn bush ?

Thank you, the girls told me.
- For what?
- Because you met us with these flowers.

The girls suddenly rushed to run, but on the run they looked back several times and, laughing, affectionately shouted the same words to me:

Thank you! Thanks!

I decided that the girls had fun and were joking with me. But in this little case, on the field road, there was still something mysterious, amazing, which I could not understand.

On the outskirts of the village I met a hurried, clean old woman. She was dragging a smoky goat on a rope. Seeing me, the old woman stopped, clasped her hands, released the goat and sang:

Oh honey! And how wonderful it is that I met you on the way. I don't know how to thank you.
“What are you thanking me for, grandma?” I asked.
“Look, feigned,” the old woman answered and shook her head slyly. - It's like you don't know! I can't tell you, I can't. You go your own way and take your time, so that the axis of more people will wind you.

Only in the village the riddle was finally cleared up. The chairman of the village council, Ivan Karpovich, revealed it to me - a strict and businesslike man, but who had a penchant for local history and historical research, as he put it, "on the scale of his district."

It was you who found a rare flower, he told me. - It's called "inflow grass". There is such a belief - but I don’t know if it’s worth exposing it? - as if this flower brings girls happy love, and old people - a calm old age. And in general - happiness. Ivan Karpovich laughed:

So you came across me with the "supply grass". Perhaps I will be lucky in my work.

In a clearing near the forest edge, I saw blue flowers. They hugged each other. Their thickets looked like small lakes with thick blue water.

The touching charm of wild flowers still inspires poets and lovers, gives a romantic mood. Field and whose names are diverse, today can be found in the most prestigious flower shops, because they look incomparable in fresh charming bouquets. And one has only to imagine an endless field strewn with blue cornflowers, yellow buttercups or white daisies, as fatigue, problems and resentment recede.

Why are they called that

Often the name of wild flowers speaks of the noticeable features of plants. The mother-and-stepmother is called that way thanks to the leaves - warm, terry on the one hand, smooth and cold on the other. Crail flowers resemble the beak of this slender bird, but look like a bell. Oregano has a unique aroma, especially when dried. Tea is very fragrant. Elecampane acquired its nickname due to the fact that it helps well with weakness and fatigue: it gives a person “nine strengths”. It also happens that the name of wild flowers is associated with myths and legends. They say that the cornflower is named after St. Basil the Great, who had a special sympathy for flowers, and is a symbol of kindness and spiritual purity. The flowers on the stems of Ivan da Mary got their name from the legend of unhappy love. The girl and the guy, having learned that they are each other's brother and sister, in order not to part, turned into flowers different shades. so called because at night the petals close tightly, and the plant droops, as if falling asleep. Another name for this flower is lumbago. According to legend, an angel shot an arrow at a demon hiding in the thickets of this plant and shot through the leaves.

two names

Each wild flower name has a second (botanical) name. In chicory, it sounds like this: Cichorium intybys. It comes from the Greek kio - "I go" and chorion - "alienated by the field." It is called so because often the plant can be found on the outskirts of fields. The name of the species intybus can be translated as "in the tube" - the flower has a hollow stem. The thistle plant has the Latin name Carduus nutans, which comes from the word cardo, which means "hook". The white and pinkish flowers of the soapwort are scientifically called Saponaria and come from the Greek sapon, meaning "soap". The pubescent leaves and stems of the mullein, called Verbascum, come from the Latin word barbascum, which is etymologically related to barba - "beard". Other names of the plant: royal scepter, ataman-grass, fur coat. The botanical name of sage - Salvia - was born from the Latin word salvus and means "healthy". Sage is widely used as a medicinal plant.

Names of blue wildflowers. blue linen

Among the flowers that delight us with a cool heavenly shade, linen can be called the most delicate. Its Latin name - Línum - comes from the Celtic language, in which the word lin means "thread": the stalk of flax consists entirely of thin fibers. From time immemorial, the plant has healed, fed and clothed people. The remarkable quality of linen matter is its resistance to decay and an increase in strength during high humidity. Oil was made from the seed of this flax, which generously contains essential linolenic fatty acid, which is involved in the metabolism of humans and animals, preventing the development of cardiovascular diseases.

Charming doctor

There is no place where graceful and cute cornflowers would not grow. If there are no ears of corn, it means that there was certainly a grain field here, which is now reminiscent of blue flowers. They bloom from May to September. The Latin name - Centauréa - originated from the Greek adjective centaureus, that is, belonging to the centaur. The myth says that with these flowers the centaur Chiron was cured of the poison of the hydra that bit him. Cornflower belongs to the Compositae family and is used in medicine as a decongestant. In folk therapy, infusion of flowers in snow water is used to treat eyes. In cosmetics, cornflower extract is used to produce cleansing, skin-tightening nutrients.

How forget-me-not got its name

Unpretentious forget-me-nots love moisture, they can be found along streams, in meadows, along river banks. The scientific name of this flower from the borage family - Myosótis - comes from the name "mouse ear", because, opening, the petals are very reminiscent of the ear of a rodent. And according to legend, the forget-me-not acquired a name when the goddess Flora descended to earth and bestowed names on flowers. It seemed to her that she respected everyone, but then a faint voice rang out behind her: “Don’t forget me too, Flora!” The goddess took a closer look and saw a tiny blue flower, called it forget-me-not and gave it the miraculous power to bring back the memory of people who had forgotten their homeland and loved ones.

Names of yellow wildflowers. Primrose

They hinted to the Apostle Peter, guarding the gates to Eden, that someone without permission wants to get into paradise with fake keys. The apostle, in fright, dropped a bunch of golden keys, it fell to the ground, and flowers similar to it grew in this place. Lovely yellow inflorescences appear in early spring, as if opening the way to light and heat. No wonder the botanical name - Prímula - originated from the Latin word prímus, that is, "first". Another name for primrose wildflowers is firstborn. Corollas with five petals are collected in racemes-inflorescences on smooth long stems. They are dried and brewed into an invigorating tea. There is a whole vitamin cocktail in primrose leaves. From its roots, healers prepare a cure for tuberculosis. And in the old days, Primrose was boiled from a flower and can pick up the signals of the ultrasonic field that occurs during an earthquake. It speeds up the movement of juices in the plant and makes it bloom faster. So the primrose is able to warn people of danger.

Priceless sweet clover

In the fields and meadows grows a magnificent honey plant and a healer - sweet clover. His Latin name - Melilótus - comes from the word "honey". And in Russia, these yellow wildflowers, whose names are bottom, are etymologically connected with the Slavic word "bottom". Infusions and decoctions from the plant helped with diseases, and from fresh leaves and flowers prepared a healing plaster for wounds.

dangerous and beautiful

What a delightful picture is the field dotted with golden drops of buttercups! This flower with silky petals is so sweet and touching. Why does it have such a formidable name? The answer is simple - buttercup juice is very poisonous. It was from him that the drug was prepared, which plunged Juliet into a deep, death-like sleep. Scientists named the flower Ranúnculus, from the Latin word for frog, because the buttercup loves wet places. The plant blooms several times during the summer, and if the season is rainy, the flowers will be large and lush, and the stems will grow to the waist.

Finally

The names and pictures of wild flowers given in this article are only a small part of the richest flora of our wonderful planet. The gentle inhabitants of meadows and fields are not afraid of either heat or cold; they generously give their healing powers to everyone who is sick. The famous thinker of the Enlightenment, Jean Jacques Rousseau, asked his friends to take him to the meadow if he fell ill so that there was no longer any hope of recovery. Then, as the scientist assured, he would feel good again.
