The principle of operation of roller shutters with electric drive. Roller shutter designs and types of mechanisms. How to open roller shutters manually

For any car owner, the issue of the safety of the vehicle is important, and hence the arrangement of the garage, in particular, the choice of gates. Roller shutter garage doors are especially popular: sizes, prices and execution options of which can be very diverse. The article will provide technical characteristics of garage roller shutters, prices for structures, recommendations for installing roller shutters with your own hands, video instructions and photo examples.

Types, sizes, prices of garage doors: roller shutters, lifting, swinging and sliding structures

Specialized sites and stores provide customers with a wide range of garage doors– sizes, prices and materials of their manufacture allow satisfying the requirements of the most discerning customers.

It is important to remember that properly selected garage doors will protect the vehicle not only from theft and mechanical damage, but also from bad weather conditions, contributing to the creation favorable microclimate indoors and good preservation of car parts.

There are several main types of garage doors:

  • lifting sectional;
  • lifting and turning;
  • swing;
  • retractable;
  • roller shutters (roller shutters, roller shutters).

Overhead sectional and overhead doors

Lifting sectional doors- this is a solid structure consisting of sandwich panels or separate steel / aluminum (in elite versions - wooden) shields connected by hinged hinges. It moves along the guides with the help of a lifting mechanism. Such doors are produced with a width of 2085-3085 mm and a height of 2250-3500 mm.

In the open position, the entire structure is located under the ceiling of the garage, thereby saving space in the room. Among its advantages are a long service life, good heat and sound insulation, resistance to deformation.

The disadvantages of such gates include their rather high cost (the price of standard-sized garage doors starts at 40 thousand rubles). And because of complex design it is worth considering not only the installation costs, but also the additional costs for the constant maintenance of the mechanism parts. You will also have to spend money on paying for a protected area, since overhead sectional doors are not sufficiently resistant to breaking. In addition, due to the presence of a sliding sash, the length of the garage should be at least one and a half times its width.

Up-and-over doors are a one-piece shield made of of stainless steel, mounted on a steel frame and, as a rule, additionally equipped with an electric drive, thanks to which it is possible to open and close the gate without leaving the car.

When open, they are located under the ceiling at an angle of 90 degrees and do not take up space inside the garage, and the whole shield can be additionally insulated or decorated (walnut, bronze, marble). To do this, you should use only light materials, otherwise you will have to equip the structure with counterweights. The gate reliably protects the car from adverse weather conditions and burglary.

Among the disadvantages, one can mention restrictions on the use - up-and-over doors can only be used in rectangular openings and can be opened no more than 10 times a day. If even a small part of them is damaged, the entire structure will have to be replaced, and installed gate reduce the height of the doorway by approximately 20 cm. The cost of standard size garage doors is on average from 35 thousand rubles, the dimensions vary from 2 to 2.7 m in width and from 1.8 to 6 m in height.

Swing, sliding and rolling gates

Swing garage doors consist of hinged doors attached to rigid posts. These sashes can open both inwards and outwards. One of the wings is often equipped with a gate. The advantages of such gates are their strength and not high price(approximately 17.5 thousand rubles). They are great for warm garages, but to open the doors, it is necessary to provide a free and level area at the entrance to the garage. Can be made in any size.

Sliding garage doors are equipped with a special roller system, with which the leaf from aluminum profiles or a profile pipe (if it is a lattice structure) moves to the side. It is possible to install such gates both outside and inside the garage, but at the same time it is necessary to provide free space for rollback, equal in size to the sash.

The advantages of sliding gates are reliability, durability, saving space in front of the entrance to the garage. Among the shortcomings are the high price (from 58 thousand rubles) and specific requirements for the size of the garage: due to the design features, the garage wall must be at least one and a half times the width of the opening. Available in most various sizes with a leaf width of 2 m.

In recent years, rolling shutters, or roller shutters, which are common in Europe and the USA, have been very popular among garage owners. The dimensions of such gates vary between 150-430 cm (width) and 150-270 cm (height), the cost starts at 7 thousand rubles. and can reach 70 thousand rubles, depending on the configuration and material of manufacture. Their device, advantages and disadvantages should be analyzed in more detail.

How are garage shutters arranged: types, advantages and disadvantages

The device of rolling garage doors is so simple that with basic skills and tools, it is quite possible to install roller shutters with your own hands.

Features of the roller shutter device

Roller shutters are a kind of blinds and consist of basic and additional elements.

The main elements include:

  • sheet of steel or aluminum lamellas (roller profiles);
  • two vertical guide rails;
  • receiving shaft, on which a web of lamellas is wound;
  • a protective rectangular or semicircular box in which the folded canvas is placed;
  • drive (mechanical or electric);
  • locks of crossbar or automatic type;
  • For automatic gate– an unlocking lever that allows you to open them when there is a power outage.

Roller shutters can be equipped with additional elements at the request of the customer. It could be:

  • system remote control;
  • anti-theft and fire alarm;
  • silicone or rubber seals;
  • gate heating system that provides easy opening and closing at low temperatures, etc.

The main types of roller shutters for the garage

There are several classifications of roller shutters:

  • by material;
  • management method;
  • degree of protection;
  • installation method.

Depending on the material, steel and aluminum roller shutters are distinguished. The former are durable, provide good protection against burglary and sound insulation, but they are quite expensive. The latter have good protective and decorative characteristics, light and reliable, affordable, resistant to moisture and not afraid of rust.

According to the method of control, roller shutters are automatic and mechanical. Automatic roller shutters are equipped with an electric drive. They are controlled by buttons or a remote control. At the same time, even de-energized gates can be opened with a special key.

For the safety of others, automatic gates are additionally equipped with a motion sensor. The price of garage roller shutters of this type is their significant disadvantage (at least 2000 rubles, plus about 6000 rubles you will have to pay extra for sensors).

Mechanical gates are driven manually. They are much cheaper, but are not suitable for roller shutters weighing more than 30 kg.

According to the degree of protection, groups of roller shutters are distinguished:

  • with a low level of protection (class P1-P2) - provide protection from noise and dust (such roller shutters are also called classic, or plumbing);
  • with an average level of protection (class P3-P5) - thanks to the steel profile, they are more durable and resistant to burglary;
  • with a high level of protection (class P6-P8) - bulletproof armored gates.

According to the installation method, there are:

  • external roller shutters (or overhead) - installed outside the garage, and the box is mounted above the doorway;
  • built-in - mounted directly into the opening, which provides more reliable protection;
  • combined - for installation, it is necessary to provide a separate niche above the opening.

All three methods allow the installation of the box both inside and outside the garage.

Advantages of roller shutters

Roller shutters have many advantages, which explains their widespread use not only in private garages, but also in commercial facilities: shopping malls, warehouses, bank and service premises.

Protective shutters (the price for them will be discussed in more detail below) are compact. They allow you to save space - an average of about 2 m, when compared with swing gates. With a limited amount of land for construction and prices for garages, roller shutter doors will be the best solution.

It is important! Despite the fact that such gates are optimally suited for large and non-standard doorways, there are restrictions on the size of roller shutters. For steel profiles, the door width must not exceed 7 m total area gate no more than 49 m², and for aluminum structures– 6 m (maximum gate area – up to 14 m²).

Due to the simple design, rolling shutters are easy to use, do not require significant maintenance costs, the purchase of lubricants or paints. Considering how much garage roller shutters cost, this can be considered another bonus. If you have basic skills, you can produce not only self-installation roller shutters (video instructions clearly show this process), but also do-it-yourself roller shutter repair.

For example, in case of mechanical damage to the lamellas, it is necessary to remove the cover of the box, lower and dismantle the canvas, and then unfold it for bulkhead and remove the side locks. Next, disconnect the deformed lamellas and install new ones, connecting them to each other with the locking part, attach the end lamella and install the canvas in the guides. Recommendations for the repair of roller shutters and videos of installing roller shutters with your own hands can be easily found on the Internet.

There are other reasons to buy roller shutters for the garage - the price is quite affordable, the roller shutters are resistant to corrosion and durable. Even budget aluminum gates will last at least 10 years. Regardless of the material, they protect the room well from dust and noise, and the insulation reduces heat loss by 20%.

Roller doors are aesthetic. There is a wide variety of colors on the market, from standard white, grey, brown, blue or black to more original shades (ruby red, Irish oak, spruce green, etc.). A rich palette and imitations of various textures allow you to harmoniously fit rolling shutters into any architectural style.

Disadvantages of roller shutters

The web of profiles cannot be opened without first cutting the metal. In addition, metal roller shutters are often additionally equipped with an alarm. Nevertheless, many garage owners prefer to install roller shutters in protected areas. Steel armored gates are considered a more reliable option, but they are expensive.

Roller shutters are best suited for unheated garages, since their design does not retain heat well and lets cold air from the street into the room. Under the influence of low temperatures individual elements The gates may become covered with ice and it will be difficult to open them. This problem can be solved with an anti-icing spray or by installing an expensive gate heating system.

Roller shutter garage doors: sizes, prices and popular manufacturers

The price of roller shutter doors for a garage differs significantly depending on the materials, the complexity of the box, the presence of additional options such as fire alarm or motion sensor. The most budget option is manually operated aluminum roller shutters, they are affordable for any garage owner, the most expensive are models made of armored steel.

The price of roller shutters for a garage also depends on the size of the garage door. Roller shutters should ideally fit into the doorway, this ensures a smooth running of the leaf and a long service life of the entire structure. For this reason, before placing an order, it is necessary to make the most careful measurements.

Table standard sizes and indicative prices for roller shutter gates:

3000 2500 38000
4000 2700 60000
4300 2700 68000

This is interesting! The standard gate width for a motorcycle is from 1.8 m, for a car - from 2.5 m, for an SUV - from 2.8 m.

The price of roller shutters for garage doors depends on the manufacturer. There are three companies among the leaders of the domestic market:

  1. Hormann (Germany) - the high price of roller shutters for the garage of this manufacturer is compensated by true German quality and reliability, confirmed by international certificates and a 10-year warranty.
  2. DoorHan (Russia) - thanks to its own production of economy class garage doors. The company is now successfully leading the CIS and Chinese markets.
  3. Alutech (Belarus) is the largest manufacturer of all types of gates and automation, as well as profile systems made of aluminum, which are distinguished by an optimal combination of price and quality.

In the case of roller shutters, the simplicity of their design makes it possible to install roller shutters with your own hands. This does not require specific skills, you just need to have a little experience or find a video of installing roller shutters on the Internet.

Roller shutter installation tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • pliers;
  • building level;
  • roulette;
  • wire cutters;
  • drill;
  • set of drills;
  • perforator;
  • rivet gun;
  • scissors for cutting metal;
  • acrylic or silicone sealant;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • mounting gun;
  • a set of fasteners;
  • screwdrivers;
  • spanners;
  • multimeter to connect the electric drive.

Before you buy a roller shutter gate, you need to consider many factors: determine the price limit, choose suitable material, color, security level, control method, best way installation, as well as to make careful measurements of the garage opening.

Helpful information! To ensure the tightness and easy movement of the roller shutter doors installed on the garage, the difference between the diagonal measurements of the opening should not exceed 5 mm. It is also necessary to check how smooth the sides of the opening are horizontally (this is done using a level) and vertically (using plumb lines). For each meter, no more than 1.5 mm deviation is allowed. In addition, after mounting the box, the space between it and the opening cannot exceed 5 mm.

In general, it is not difficult to install roller shutter gates on the garage with your own hands. It is enough to adhere to a certain algorithm of actions.

Preparatory stage

If the top and side slopes of the garage opening do not meet the above requirements, all irregularities, cracks and chips should be carefully leveled using special linings and building mixtures. On how well this will be done, the entire further progress of the installation of roller shutters with your own hands depends.

Next, prepare the guides. On metal tires at a distance of 50 cm from each other, marks must be applied and through them with a drill drill through holes for fasteners with a diameter of 8 mm. In this case, it is necessary to step back from the edges of the cut of the guide by 10-15 cm. It is recommended to drill the holes themselves a little with outside. Additionally, holes with a diameter of 11.8 cm are drilled in the upper part of the guides for plugs.

Frame assembly

To assemble the frame, the cover must be attached to the box and a pair of through holes with a diameter of 4.2 mm must be made for installing rivets. After that, it is necessary to mark and drill holes with a diameter of 8 mm to fix the box (with reverse side box for overhead installation and at the top of the box for built-in installation). In addition, you will need to drill one hole to connect the drive. Next, the box is connected to the side tires.

The assembled structure should be placed in the garage opening and, using the building level, check that the box is located strictly horizontally relative to the upper slope, and the side guides are strictly vertical. After that, along the holes drilled in the frame, marks for fasteners can be applied to the slopes. You should also make a mark for the drive output.

Then the structure is removed, and holes are punched along the marks with a perforator. The diameter of the opening for the drive must be 12 or 16 mm, depending on whether the roller shutters are operated electrically or manually. Dowels are inserted into the punched holes, and a protective spring is inserted into the hole for the drive.

Do-it-yourself roller shutter frame installation

From the rear wall of the frame, remove the special protective film. frame structure installed in the prepared opening. At this stage, it is important to make sure that the marks and holes match completely, and also check again with a building level that the guides and the box are not skewed. After that, the structure is securely fixed in the opening with fasteners.

Note! Fasteners must match the load! To fix the frame in a brick, concrete or stone opening, plastic dowels and steel anchors from 3 cm are used, for openings with voids - anchors from 6 cm, for metal openings - self-tapping screws, and for openings made of wood - screws and studs.

All fasteners must be tightened evenly. Otherwise, during operation, the structure may warp, as a result, the roller shutters will go very tight, a characteristic rattle will appear. They will help you avoid mistakes and install the roller shutters yourself - video and photo recommendations.

Installation of control elements and door leaf

Mechanical control of roller shutters is carried out using a special lever. For outdoor installation (it is most suitable for installing a roller shutter with your own hands), markings are made inside the room, holes are drilled along it and guides and a tape layer are attached to the opening. Installation of electrical control elements is carried out according to the scheme attached by the manufacturer (if you have any questions at this stage, it is best to seek advice from reference books or at least familiarize yourself with the numerous roller shutter installation videos).

Next, the canvas is mounted. Crossbars (automatic locks) are attached to the last lamella of the canvas. The shaft is wrapped with a sheet, the edges of the sheet are installed in the grooves of the guides, traction springs are mounted in the upper part of the sheet and fixed in the drilled holes of the shaft. To adjust the web in the extreme lower and upper positions, restrictive stoppers are installed. They connect controls and check how all elements and mechanisms work. After that, remove the protective film from the outside of the roller shutters. Plugs and gaps are installed and sealed, the seams are sealed with mounting foam.

Acting in accordance with these instructions, you can easily carry out installation roller shutter on one's own. For more detailed information, you can find numerous videos on the Internet - how to install a roller shutter gate yourself and even how to make a roller shutter with your own hands.

In order to choose the type of roller shutter mechanism, you need to answer some questions and understand for yourself why and where you put it.

  • Firstly, can you freely reach the roller shutter box to lower them manually? For example, if you put roller shutters on the door, then you can install roller shutters with a spring-inertial mechanism - PIM (budget option), you can install an electric drive (roller shutters with automatics), opening from the remote control. If you put roller shutters on a window and the box is about 3m above the ground, then if you choose PIM, you will have to use a ladder to open and close the roller shutters. In this case, you need an electric drive. Can install rocker switch indoors, near the window (electricity is needed), this is a budget option or open using the remote control (for this, you additionally need a CV0.1 signal receiver and the remote control itself). This option is approximately 2000-3500 rubles more expensive
  • The choice of mechanism depends on the weight and area of \u200b\u200bthe structure
  • material component. Spring-inertial mechanism is the cheapest option. The most expensive and easiest to use is an electric drive.

By the same principle, you can choose with automatic or spring-inertial mechanism.

The most popular types of mechanisms: PIM and electric drive.

The electric actuator can be equipped with an emergency opening in the event of a power outage or a malfunction of the mechanism. Then you can use the crank to manually raise and lower the roller shutters.

An essential prerequisite for installation with least cost is quality training framing the opening for the installation of roller shutters. Very important for initial stage accurately measure the opening, indicating the material of the walls and their thickness.

Prepared openings must meet the following requirements:

  • openings must have a rectangular shape or another shape agreed upon by the customer and the contractor
  • the surface of the framing planes must be flat and smooth, without sagging of plaster mortar and cracks
  • deviations of working surfaces from the vertical and horizontal should not exceed 1.5 mm / m, but not more than 5 mm. Diagonal difference is not more than 5mm. If the openings are prepared by the Customer with deviations from the stated requirements, the Customer is obliged to eliminate the deviations or conclude an additional agreement for the performance of these works by a subcontractor.

General principles of roller shutter installation

During installation, the guide rails of the roller shutters must be leveled in vertical planes, the protective box - in a horizontal plane.

The roller shutter must be located symmetrically with respect to the opening.

The box and guide rails must be adjacent to the frame of the opening along the entire length. Local gaps of not more than 5 mm are allowed. The difference in the lengths of the diagonals, measured at the extreme points of the guide rails, should not be more than 2 mm.

Installation and alignment of the elements of the product on the wall before fixing them can be carried out using metal spacers installed in the area of the attachment points. Seams and gaps after the installation of products must be sealed with sealing materials.

The installation accuracy of the product during installation is controlled by the construction level of standard sizes USB-1 / USB-4 of the 1st accuracy group GOST 9416-83 and a tape measure 1-5 m GOST 7502-89 of the 2nd accuracy group. Allowed use building levels and other types of roulettes, but not lower than the specified accuracy group.

Roller shutters must be securely fastened and thus not represent potential danger for the life and health of people. The attachment points of the products must ensure a uniform distribution of forces acting on the products, and their reliable transfer to the elements of the building structure.

During installation, attention should be paid to the correct and uniform tightening of fasteners in order to avoid distortion of the product and ensure its performance.

When fastening guide rails to roller shutters, the maximum allowable distance between fasteners of 500 mm should not be exceeded, while the distance from the edge of the rail to the attachment point should not exceed 150 mm.

The choice of a fastener is carried out taking into account the distribution of loads, the strength of adjacent building elements ( brickwork, concrete, gas silicate blocks, etc.). When using expanding dowels, the building elements must withstand the pressure of the expandable dowel.

Wooden plugs, polyurethane foam, silicone are not allowed to be used as fasteners.

When fastening products with dowels, you should work with long drills so as not to damage the surface of the roller shutter elements with a drill chuck. The drilled hole should match or be slightly smaller than the diameter of the dowel.

When embedding assembly seams and gaps, seals in tubes (silicone, polyurethane foam, acrylic) should be used. When sealing individual joints and gaps larger than 3 mm, plaster mortars (except for the installation of unpainted aluminum guide rails) compatible with the material of the opening and approved for use by the customer should be used.

After hardening, the sealing materials protruding beyond the plane of the tires and the box are removed and, if necessary, the final sealing of the seams is carried out. When using polyurethane foam, care should be taken not to deform the elements of the roller shutter box.

After completing the installation work and finishing the facade of the building, remove the protective film from the roller shutter box. Clean and wipe contaminated areas

Standard procedure (step-by-step) for installation of roller shutters

Upon arrival at the installation site, unpack the product and check the completeness. One set should include: protective box assembly - 1 pc., roller shutter curtain - 1 pc., guide rails - 2 pcs., complete set - 1 set.

Check the quality of the preparation of the framing of the opening.

Mark and drill holes Ø 8 mm in the guide rails through two walls. Make the lower and upper holes at a distance of 100 ... 150 mm from the tire cuts. The remaining holes should be evenly spaced along the length of the bar in increments of 450...500 mm

* Note: when installing roller shutters on metal constructions drill holes in the guide rails, the diameter of which is selected depending on the size of the self-tapping screws or screws used.

For surface mounting, drill holes in front surface guide bar for plugs Ø 11.8 mm

For recessed mounting, drill a hole in the inner wall of the bar Ø 11.8 mm

Mark and drill jointly Ø 4.2 mm holes in the front flanges of the side covers and the box cover (two holes on each side of the box) for the subsequent installation of rivets.

Mark and drill jointly in the flanges of the covers and the rear panel of the box holes Ø 8 mm for attaching the box to the frame of the opening:

  • for surface mounting, drill two holes in the rear flange of each cover
  • for recessed mounting, drill two holes in the upper flange of each cover
  • for combined installation, drill two holes in the rear and top flanges of each cover

* Note: when installing roller shutters on metal structures, drill holes in the covers, the diameter of which is selected depending on the size of the self-tapping screws or screws used.

Mark and drill a hole together required size in the rear flanging of the cover and a box for the output of drive elements

* Note: this operation it is performed for external mounting for the output of the electric motor cable, cardan, cord or cord through the wall, if the hole was not made when assembling the roller shutter box.

Cut the flanging of the rear panel of the box in the places where the guide rails fit

* Note: This operation is performed for surface mounting.

Assemble the roller shutter frame (box assembly with side covers and guide rails).

If there is no bent flanging on the guide rails, install two guide devices in the covers

Install the roller shutter frame at the installation site:

  • for surface mounting, attach the frame to the frame of the opening

for built-in and combined installation, install the frame in the opening

Align the guide rails strictly vertically, the protective box horizontally, and the entire structure - symmetrically with respect to the opening

Mark the location of the hole in the wall for the output of controls

* Note: This operation is for outdoor installation.

Remove the roller shutter frame from the installation site

Drill a hole in the wall to bring out the controls

  • for the output of the electric motor cable, cord, - hole Ø 12 mm
  • for tape output - hole Ø 16 mm
  • for the output of the cardan, cord - hole Ø 14 mm. Drill a 20mm square hole to the required depth for the cylindrical protrusion of the cardan.

* Note: these operations are for outdoor installation

Install a protective spring or tube in the hole of the outlet, cord or cord

If there is a bottom frame for roller shutters, make grooves in the guide rails for the locking elements of the locking devices

In other cases, the grooves are made "in place" after the installation of the roller shutter curtain.

* Note: this operation is performed in roller shutters with tape, cord, cord or spring-inertial drives to prevent unauthorized lifting of the roller shutter curtain.

Install the roller shutter frame at the installation site, having previously removed the protective film from the rear panel of the box

Drill holes for installing dowels Ø 8 mm in the frame of the opening along the prepared holes in the busbars and the box. In order to avoid damage to the elements of the roller shutter with a drill chuck, you should use elongated drills or drills for concrete

When installing roller shutters on metal structures, drill holes of the required diameter for self-tapping screws or screws.

Fix the roller shutter frame with fasteners, periodically monitoring the correct installation using the building level

Connect the motor cable to the switch terminals in accordance with the motor installation instructions (motor manufacturer's instructions).

If necessary, the extension of the motor cable is carried out using a twist and a terminal block of the cable cores and an extension cable. The twisting points must be reliably electrically insulated.

Thread the tape, cord or cord into the appropriate guides

For outdoor mounting, insert the tape or cable of the electric drive into the hole made in the wall. Thread the cord or cord into the protective elements, pass through the wall and pre-fix.

  • mark and drill holes Ø 6 mm for installing dowels for fastening a tape guide or a cord guide; clips for collar;
  • mark and drill holes Ø 8 mm for installation of dowels for fastening the tape layer or the layer for the cord, the layer for the cord, the cardan of the crank drive, the cord guide;
  • mark and drill holes Ø 6 mm for installing dowels for mounting an electric switch, an automation unit.
  • install and secure drive controls

* Note: when installing roller shutters on metal structures, drill holes of the required diameter for self-tapping screws or screws.

For internal installation:

  • mark and drill holes 08 mm for installing dowels for fastening the tape handler or cord handler, cord handler
  • mark and drill holes 06 mm for installing dowels for mounting an electric switch, an automation unit, a clip for a wrench
  • install and secure drive controls.

* Note: the installation of a guide for a tape or a guide for a cord, a guide for a cord, a cardan of a crank drive must be done beforehand when assembling the roller shutter box.

With built-in installation of roller shutters, the control elements are fastened to the guide rail using rivets or self-tapping screws.

Install the blade into the grooves of the guide rails. Run the blade over the drive shaft from the rear panel. To avoid damage to the blade coating, the drive shaft must be wrapped with soft cushioning material.

Finally fix the tape or cord, cord on the drive pulley. By rotating the shaft, wind the traction element onto the pulley. The length of the winding must provide full lifting of the web.

Assemble the roller shutter curtain with traction elements (traction springs or crossbars)

Fasten the traction elements to the drive shaft:

* Note: installation of traction springs and selection of the number of slats is carried out in such a way that under their action the roller shutter curtain is thrown to the rear wall of the box and, in case of an unauthorized attempt to lift, rests against upper part boxes

  • install the axes of the crossbars into the mounting holes of the crossbar rings, bring the rings together to the stop. Fix the position of the rings with self-tapping screws. Do not drill the shaft! Screw the self-tapping screw into the radial hole of the bolt ring until it stops against the shaft wall

* Note: When using a crank drive, fix the traction elements after setting the end position of the reducer limiter "at the stop" when the blade moves down.

Install stoppers that limit the lifting height of the blade, having previously drilled through holes in the end profile of the blade. Holes are drilled at a distance of 50-100 mm from the guide rails

* Note: this operation is not performed when the roller shutter is equipped with an electric drive without NHK.

When the roller shutters are equipped with a spring-inertial mechanism (PIM), after installing the curtain in the guides, perform the following operations:

  • install traction springs
  • pre-tension the PIM spring by rotating the drive shaft in the direction of the spring winding (clockwise when viewed from the right cover).
  • fix the spring with a bracket
  • drive the traction springs into the longitudinal perforations of the shaft
  • remove the bracket fixing the PIM spring

Holding the canvas with your hand, check the operation of the PIM

The canvas must be rolled up completely, the motion of the canvas must be smooth. If necessary, adjust the tension of the PIM.

  • install stops to limit the height of the roller shutters.

Connect the actuator to the electrical network and adjust the position of the limit switches. To perform these works, guided by the instructions of the drive manufacturer.

Check the performance of the roller shutter.

Install the cover of the protective box into the groove of the box and attach it with rivets

After the installation is completed, the slots of the heads of the screws and screws that fasten the guide rails must be drilled out to prevent unauthorized unscrewing in order to increase the protective properties of the roller shutter

When using self-tapping screws with high hardness, the slots are filled with silicone sealant

Technological openings are closed with decorative plugs

After completing the installation work, seal the mounting gaps. Clean contaminated areas of the product with a soft cloth. If necessary, use neutral detergents

Hand over the product to the representative of the customer with a full demonstration of its functional performance

Modern protective roller blinds are able to provide a different degree of security, making it easy to choose the best option in each specific case.

It's nice to be in a room that is reliably protected from prying eyes and the penetration of unauthorized persons, and at the same time from street noise and cold weather. To do this, you need quite a bit: put a reliable watchman on each of the windows of your home - a protective shutter.

To effectively protect your home (both a city apartment and a country house) from outside intrusion, it is necessary to provide for all possible ways of getting inside. One of the easiest and most accessible ways is through window openings, often protected by only one or two layers of thin glass.

The traditional way to protect against penetration through windows is to install metal bars. However, in our time, quickly cutting such a grate is no longer a problem (there are modern mechanical tools for this - hydraulic cutters, grinders, etc.). Therefore, it's time to install more reliable protection on the windows - roller shutters (or, as they are also called, roller shutters).

An important functional advantage of roller shutters over metal gratings is the ability to quickly evacuate from a room to extreme situations(Many tragic cases are known when, during a fire, the owners of apartments were trapped because of the bars on the windows). Among other things, protective shutters give the building an aesthetic appearance, provide good heat and sound insulation and prevent the penetration of street dust into the room.

Design features and arrangement of protective shutters

Structurally, a protective roller blind consists of a sheet, guides, a box into which the sheet is folded, and a control mechanism. Roller blinds are assembled from movably interconnected plates (lamellas), which can have different widths and thicknesses. The slats are wound on an octagonal shaft located in the box. In working condition, protective shutters completely close the window opening, and when raised, they are removed into a box, which is placed above the window opening. To prevent unauthorized lifting from the outside, the roller shutter curtain in closed position it is blocked using manual or locking bolts installed in the lower lamella (end profile).

Canvas elements - lamellas can be made of plastic (PVC), aluminum or steel profiles - depending on the required strength and degree of protection of the premises from unauthorized entry. Aluminum lamellas of protective shutters are made in two ways: by roller rolling and by extrusion (this technology is used to produce a seamless profile of increased strength). The internal cavity of the profile is filled with environmentally friendly polyurethane foam of various degrees of density. This is done to increase the mechanical resistance of the lamellas to bending and torsion, as well as to improve their heat and sound insulation qualities.

For the manufacture of steel lamellas, as a rule, galvanized sheet is used, which greatly increases corrosion resistance protective rolls. In addition, the steel lamellas of roller shutters are often covered with a layer of vinyl. This coating serves additional protection from corrosion and improves the aesthetic qualities of the product. The degree of reliability of protective shutters also depends on the material of the lamellas. Plastic slats protect against peeping and to some extent carry out the functions of heat and noise insulation, but they will not protect against hacking. The most durable and reliable roller blinds are made of steel and extruded aluminum profiles.

Its weight depends on the material from which the roller blind is made - a steel blade is heavier than aluminum. Thus, a less powerful electric drive can be used for aluminum shutters than for steel shutters of the same size. However, when choosing the material for the lamellas of protective shutters, you need to remember one more characteristic - corrosion resistance, because roller shutters are in most cases installed outside the building and are exposed to precipitation and dust.

When winding the roleta onto the shaft, grains of sand inevitably scratch the lamellas. As a result, the steel surface (even protected by a polymer or galvanized) is still damaged in some places - scratches that are almost imperceptible to the eye are formed. At high humidity(rain, snow) water gets into these scratches, and rusty streaks appear on the steel roller shutters, indicating corrosion of the metal. At the same time, roller shutters made of aluminum profiles, although they are inferior to steel ones in strength, are not subject to corrosion and work reliably for many years without losing a presentable appearance.

Roller shutter box made of rolled aluminum with a thickness of about 1 mm. They consist of two profiles and two side covers. Inside the box there is a shaft on which the web is wound, and parts of the drive mechanism. External surface the box is covered with a protective polyethylene film. The size of the box depends on the required length of the curtain and, accordingly, on the height of the window opening in which the roller shutter is installed.

Side guides serve to move the roller blind. They are made from extruded aluminium. If necessary, a lower guide stop bar is installed. Guide rails are used with some types of profiles reinforced structures, which provides increased protection against hacking.

Ways to control protective shutters

Both manual and electric control mechanisms are used to lower and raise the web. There are several types of control mechanisms:

  • with manual tape or cord drive;
  • with mechanical cable or cord drive;
  • with mechanical cardan drive;
  • with spring-inertial mechanism;
  • with electric drive.

Manual belt or cord drive- This is the simplest device for controlling the raising and lowering of the web. It consists of an inertial cord stacker (the so-called snail), into which a tape or cord is wound, respectively. The snail is located indoors near the window opening. The other end of the tape is fixed on the shaft pulley in the box. The tape is pulled down by hand, while the canvas rises, and if you pull the tape towards you, it moves up - the canvas drops. It is also possible to stop the roller shutter curtain for desired height not fully raised. To do this, the snail is equipped with a special lock that prevents the tape from spontaneously returning up.

The advantages of this type of etching include simplicity of design, reliability, low cost, and the ability to control from inside the room.

The disadvantages are the need to apply significant muscular effort to raise the roller blind (it is believed that a manual tape drive is suitable for canvases weighing no more than 15 kg).

Mechanical cable or cord drive is carried out through a gearbox containing a mechanism that enhances muscle effort. The reducer is a box with a handle, which is installed indoors at a convenient height to the right or left of the window. The principle of operation of a mechanical drive is similar to a manual one. When the handle is rotated, the force is transmitted to the shaft through a cable or cord, and the roller blind moves down or up, respectively. If necessary, the canvas can be stopped at the desired height.

The advantages of a mechanical drive: low cost, reliability, the ability to control from inside the room.

The disadvantage is the restriction on the weight of the canvas (up to 80 kg).

Cardan (rotary) drive is a special steel handle (knob) that is inserted into a loop protruding from the wall inside the room. Roller shutters are set in motion when the handle is rotated, the force is transmitted to the shaft by means of cardan shaft. The handle can be removable and stationary.

Advantages of the cardan drive: reliability, low price, the ability to install a removable or fixed opening unit, control both from inside the room and from the street, the ability to install an upper automatic lock.

The disadvantage is the restriction on the weight of the canvas (up to 35 kg).

Spring-inertial mechanism uses the energy of the spring to raise the curtain, which is cocked when the curtain is lowered. The spring is located inside the shaft on which the web is wound. The roller shutter is lowered manually, after which it is fixed with the lower lock. The opening is carried out in the reverse order also manually, while the energy of the spring compensates for the muscular effort.

The advantages of the spring-inertial mechanism: ease of control, ease of installation (there is no need to pass the drive through the outer wall of the building), low cost.

Disadvantages: the impossibility of control from inside the room, the mandatory use of the lower lock.

Roller shutters with electric drive. The electric motor is mounted on a shaft inside the box into which the web is rolled up and does not require additional space. Only a wire with a switch is output inside the room. The roller blind can be stopped in any position. Today on the market there are various systems for controlling the electric drive of roller shutters: from simple mechanical switches to electronic systems, allowing you to program the operation of roller shutters (for example, automatically open and close at a specified time, or even depending on the illumination on the street).

In addition, radio-controlled shutters are often used. The remote control can be both single-channel and multi-channel (one such remote control can control several roller shutters). The electric drive can be duplicated by an emergency manual lifting mechanism in case of a power outage - as a rule, this is a crank drive. To prevent attempts to lift the closed roller shutter from the outside, an electromagnetic brake of the drive is used.

Remote control of roller shutters through the control panel. The multi-channel remote control allows you to simultaneously control several roller shutters located in different parts premises

The advantages of the electric drive: the possibility of winding the web weighing up to 200 kg; comfort in management; the possibility of using systems with remote, group control and other automation devices; possibility of installation of the top automatic lock.

The disadvantage is the relatively high cost. The least hassle with the installation of a control mechanism for protective shutters will be if this is taken care of at the stage of building construction. When laying the electrical network around the house, it is desirable to provide for the supply of appropriate electrical cables for roller shutters to the windows. If you plan to install roller shutters with mechanical control from inside the building, then you need to immediately provide for the output of the drive, so as not to spoil the interior finish later.

The control drives of the protective roller shutters allow you to raise the curtain in whole or in part - to the required height

Roller blinds can be installed outside or inside directly into window openings, as well as superimposed on the outer or inner surface walls above window openings. During the construction of the building, it is possible to specially provide a place for protective shutters in window openings. This will allow you to choose the most reliable option installation - when the guides and the box are hidden inside the opening, and only the roller blind is visible from the outside.

Built-in roller blinds look more aesthetically pleasing and have a much higher degree of reliability - they can neither be turned out nor bent, for this you will have to disassemble the wall. Those who decide on this option need to decide in advance on the choice of protective shutters for windows and find out the dimensions of the guides and the box. According to these dimensions, a groove is provided along the perimeter of the window opening, into which the roller shutter guide sheets are then installed.

There are various ways to install protective shutters in already built buildings. They can be installed on the outer or inner side of the window in the window opening or superimposed on the window opening also from the inside or outside. However, the variant of installation "overlaid" on the outside of the window has a significant drawback - the degree of protection of such roller shutters is much lower. Overhead roller shutters have a weak point - guides. They can be bent and even torn off the wall.

Installation of protective shutters

Installation of protective shutters- It is quite a complex and responsible task. But still, if you have a certain experience in repair and construction work, even a non-professional can handle the installation of protective shutters. Here are some rules that must be observed in the process of work. At the first stage, it is very important to accurately measure the opening. For quality installation you must first properly prepare the opening for the installation of roller shutters.

Properly prepared openings must meet the following requirements:

  • the shape of the opening must be strictly rectangular;
  • the surface of the framing planes must be even and smooth, without sagging of plaster and cracks;
  • deviations of working surfaces from the vertical and horizontal should not exceed 1.3 mm/m. The difference in the lengths of the diagonals of the opening should be no more than 5 mm.

For correct operation and reliable protection against burglary, roller blinds must be securely attached to the wall. When installing protective shutters, the following general principles must be observed:

  • roller shutter guide rails must be leveled vertically, and the protective box - horizontally;
  • the roller shutter should be located symmetrically with respect to the opening;
  • the box and guide rails must be adjacent to the frame of the opening along the entire length. Local gaps of not more than 5 mm are allowed. The difference in the lengths of the diagonals, measured at the extreme points of the guide rails, should not be more than 2 mm;
  • installation and alignment of the elements of the roller shutter on the wall before fixing them is carried out using metal spacers installed at the attachment points. Seams and gaps after installation is completed are sealed with sealing materials;
  • during installation, tightening of fasteners should be done evenly to avoid distortion of the product;
  • All fasteners and parts must be resistant to corrosion. During installation load-bearing elements roller blinds, various fasteners can be used, the choice of which depends on the characteristics of the material of the opening;
  • when fastening products with dowels, you should work with long drills so as not to damage the surface of the roller shutter elements with a drill chuck;
  • it is forbidden to use wooden plugs, polyurethane foam, silicone, etc. as fasteners;
  • when sealing assembly joints and gaps, the size of which does not exceed 3 mm, seals in tubes (silicone, polyurethane foam, acrylic) should be used.
  • When sealing individual joints and larger gaps, plaster mortars are used that are compatible with the material of the opening: after hardening, the sealing materials that protrude beyond the plane of the tires and the box are removed. When using polyurethane foam, care should be taken not to deform the elements of the roller shutter box;
  • for outdoor installation of protective roller shutters, the tape or cable of the electric drive is tucked into the hole made in the wall. The cord or cord is tucked into the protective elements, after which it is passed through the step. After that, the tape, cord or cord must be finally fixed on the drive pulley. By rotating the shaft, wind the traction element on the pulley in such a way that the length of the winding ensures the full lifting of the web;
  • mark and drill holes for installing dowels, then install and secure the drive controls;
  • in the presence of the lower frame of the roller shutter, grooves are made in the guide rails for the locking elements of the locking devices. In other cases, the grooves are made in place after the roller blind is installed;
  • when the roller blind is equipped with a spring-inertial mechanism, after installing the curtain in the guides, you need to check the operation of the mechanism by holding the curtain with your hand. The canvas should roll up completely, its course should be smooth. If necessary, adjust the spring tension;
  • when installing roller shutters with electric drive the motor cable is connected to the switch terminals in accordance with the motor manufacturer's instructions for mounting the motor. After that, the position of the limit switches is adjusted;
  • to install the blade in the grooves of the guide rails, you need to bring it over the drive shaft from the rear panel. In order to avoid damage to the coating of the roller blind, it is necessary to wrap the drive shaft with soft cushioning material;
  • to install stoppers that limit the lifting height of the web, it is necessary to drill through holes in the end profile of the web at a distance of 50-100 mm from the guide rails;
  • after the installation of the roller blind, the slots of the heads of the screws and screws securing the guide rails must be drilled out to prevent unauthorized unscrewing (or filled with silicone sealant), technological holes are closed with decorative plugs;
  • after completion of installation work and restoration of the facade finish of the building, the protective film is removed from the roller shutter box.

Materials for sealing mounting joints, gaps and technological holes

Usually, silicone or acrylic sealants, as well as mounting foam, are used as sealing materials when installing protective shutters. Recommended set of tools and accessories: electric hammer drill, electric drill, cordless screwdriver, building block level, hammer, sledgehammer, chisel, jumper, punch, center punch, hacksaw, metal shears, pliers, side cutters, file set, carbide screwdriver set, set wrenches. You will also need a gun silicone sealant, a tester and an electric soldering iron 60 W (when installing a roller shutter with an electric drive), an electric extension cord, a tape measure 5 m, a caliper, a standard set of drills for metal, a set of drills for concrete with a diameter of 6 - 20 mm, a ladder, safety glasses.

Rules for the operation and maintenance of protective shutters

Failure to comply with these rules can lead not only to damage to the shutters, but also to injury to people.

  • To maintain the roller shutters in constant technical good condition, it is necessary to regularly clean the curtain and guide spikes from dust, dirt and foreign objects. The use of non-aggressive cleaning solutions is allowed. In winter, before lifting the curtain, it is recommended, if necessary, to clean it from ice light tapping;
  • During the operation of the protective shutters, it is forbidden to prevent the lifting and lowering of the canvas with hands or foreign objects;
  • It is strictly forbidden to operate electric roller shutters if there is visible damage to the power supply cables or roller shutter control devices. At high temperature environment frequent raising and lowering of the motorized roller shutter curtain (4-5 minutes of continuous operation) can trigger the thermal switch that protects the motor from overheating. In this case, the drive will be blocked. Just wait a while (approximately 15 minutes) until it cools down;
  • It is recommended periodically - once a year - to carry out technical inspection roller shutter with the participation of the manufacturer's specialists;
  • Maintenance and repair of roller shutters must be carried out by representatives of the manufacturer.

The implementation of these simple rules will ensure reliable and smooth operation protective rolet, and consequently and reliable protection of the room.
