Sliding mechanisms for doors. Mechanism for sliding interior door. Installation of an interior sliding door Mechanism for a door on interior rails

The key to quiet and smooth operation of sliding interior doors is high-quality fittings. Roller structures have complex device and require the use of an expanded set of elements.

The set includes:

  • guides. Typically modern door systems have a mounted design. Large and heavy sliding curtains are often equipped with a floor rail. Guides are made of steel and aluminum;
  • rollers equipped with bearings. Elements often have a rubberized shell for soft movement;
  • components for rotary models. The functioning of these original products is ensured by a rotating mechanism;
  • pencil cases. Metal constructions built into the wall, only the sash remains visible;
  • special handles.

The main criterion is the weight of the sashes. For heavy sliding doors It is better to purchase reinforced rollers from solid wood or glass. Also pay attention to the following nuances:

  • the rail should be twice as long as the interior panel;
  • the floor track should ideally have a seal that prevents clogging;
  • aluminum profile is quieter than steel;
  • the number of accessories is selected based on the size and number of sections.

You can evaluate the entire range in person in the showroom in Moscow.

Today you won’t surprise anyone with a sliding door. Sliding structures can be found everywhere. They are used for any type of door, including glass and metal, but are more often used as interior doors and sliding wardrobe doors.

In most cases, cabinets are assembled and installed by hand. The assembly and installation diagrams are no different great complexity. It is important to choose a high-quality sliding mechanism and strictly follow the chosen pattern.

Advantages and disadvantages of sliding structures

The main advantages of using a sliding structure are the following:

  • Space saving.
  • Easy to install, allowing you to install them yourself.
  • No need to install the box.
  • Quiet operation, reliability and durability.
  • Reducing the risk of injury.
  • Possibility of installation tightly of any size and automatic control system.

The disadvantages include low tightness and the need to install a pencil case (in some cases).

Types of sliding doors

Sliding doors differ from sliding mechanisms. The latter can be folding, in which the doors are folded into an “accordion” or “book”.

Sliding structures differ in opening methods and the number of doors.

  • Sliding doors. One or two sashes move along guides parallel to the wall in one or opposite directions. They are also used in Versailles coupe systems.
  • Cassette. The difference from the first ones is that when opened, the doors are hidden in a pencil case. It can be made with your own hands from plasterboard, other materials, or purchased complete with a sliding structure.
  • Radial. They differ in their original shape, determined by the curvature of the guides.

  • Cascade. Each sash has its own guides. They come with one stationary and several movable blades.
  • Intra-opening. The device assumes an option when, at the moment of opening, two doors move towards each other, and only part of the opening remains for passage

Sliding system design

Depending on the weight of the canvas, the sliding mechanism may have a different design. In a simplified form, the sliding door mechanism consists of the following structural elements:

  • Guide with roller carriages. The number of these elements may vary for different types doors Often made from thick-walled aluminum profile, are used for fastening the leaf flaps in them. Polymer rollers on bearings are installed inside the rails, which provide the necessary smooth opening. Attached to the wall, floor or ceiling.
  • Limiters or locking mechanisms. Used to hold the sash in the guide.

Types of sliding systems

Depending on the implementation of the design idea, sliding systems can have several guides. Most often one or two. The location of the support rollers can also be different:

  • Up. This is the system hanging type. The canvas is suspended only from the upper guide. The load is distributed only on the upper rollers, and the door opens without touching the floor.
  • At the bottom. This is a support system. The entire load falls on the lower guide. The upper suspension is not used.

The mechanisms themselves, according to their execution and purpose, are divided into the following:

  • Standard. This is the simplest and most common option, which does not cause difficulties when installing it yourself. Typically non-threshold.

Designed for maximum load from 40 to 120 kg, the design has bearings.

  • Open type. It is called so because all structural elements are visible. The hanger is designed for a door with a leaf weighing up to 100 kg. Let's say you can install the pencil case yourself.
  • Hidden type. The structural elements are hidden behind the sash leaf. The bottom guide is not used. Not recommended for glass doors. Due to its simplicity, do-it-yourself installation is allowed.
  • With closer. A special device ensures smooth movement of the doors. The closer is installed on any type of door and can work in both directions of movement of the leaves.
  • Synchronous. The mechanism ensures synchronous opening of the valves in different sides. Designed for doors weighing no more than 80 kg. Additionally, the kit includes tension rollers, cable, fastenings and hooks. It is not recommended to install it yourself due to the complexity of the work.
  • Telescopic. The mechanism ensures that the doors open in one direction. There are two parallel rails on which the doors are suspended, connected by a synchronous opening device. Suspension of up to three leaves is allowed.
  • Rotary. This new type mechanism for interior designs. It has the advantages characteristic of sliding, swing and swing doors.

What is needed for installation

Do-it-yourself sliding mechanisms are installed on the doors using the following tools and components:

  • Drill, screwdriver, screwdrivers.
  • Fasteners - self-tapping screws, dowels and screws.
  • Roulette.
  • Pencil.
  • Aluminum profile. For the standard Versailles design, it is enough to purchase a two-meter strip. Selecting the length for custom sizes openings are performed using calculations that can be found on the Internet.

  • Wooden beam. One or two according to the number of upper guides. The thickness is selected according to the thickness of the blade, taking into account the dimensions of the mechanism. Usually - 4-5 cm.
  • Limiters. The number of limit brackets must correspond to the number of rails multiplied by two.
  • Guides. The slats should be smooth, and the material should be durable and light.
  • Rollers with carriages. The sliding block is the most important part of the system. The service life and functionality of the entire system depends on its reliability and quality. This must be taken into account when choosing.
  • Decorative plugs.

After preparing all this, we begin installation on the sashes. Installation can be done either on your own or with the assistance of specialists.

Installation

The installation diagram and procedure are as follows:

  • The first step is to mark the position of the guides. The rails are installed 15-20 cm above the door, taking into account the height of the roller mechanism. Height is measured from the floor. Horizontal lines are drawn on the wall and checked with a level.

Irregularities can lead to spontaneous rollback of the sashes, especially when installing the Versailles coupe system.

  • Then a beam is attached under the guide rails. It is mounted above the marking lines. Dowels are used.
  • Guides are attached to the beam. Sometimes they are placed directly on the wall. Be sure to leave a small gap between the wall/beam so that the sash does not touch it. The length of the rail must exceed the width of the widow's opening.

  • A block of roller carriages with fastening connections is inserted into the rails.
  • Brackets are installed to lock the roller mechanisms. They are placed 5 mm from the edge of the canvas.

In the video you can see how to install the mechanism yourself:

  • Next, the canvas is screwed to the brackets with screws. When installing the Versailles coupe system Special attention focuses on the absence of gaps. In the Versailles system they often appear anyway due to the synchronous movement of the rollers.
  • Plugs are placed on the rails at the ends, and the sliding block is closed with platbands or decorative strips.

Installation of a sliding structure and an automatic control system is not so complicated. If you have the skills and follow the diagram, then anyone with little knowledge can install the sliding block with their own hands.

The quality of the components is important. Every element plays a role - sliding block, guide, suspension, stopper and even screw connections. Italian products are very popular, differing high quality. They provide exceptionally easy movement of the canvas and tight closure of the sashes.

Our apartments are mostly equipped with standard swing doors. For owners of small-sized homes, such doors cause a lot of problems, as they take up a decent amount of space. usable space, which can and should be used more efficiently. The way out of this situation is to install sliding doors. In them door leaf moves along the wall, thus freeing up useful space.

Types of sliding door mechanisms

Sliding mechanisms for interior doors are presented today in two types.

  1. The first type of such a mechanism includes two guides - both upper and lower. Sliding doors with this mechanism are free from distortions, and two pairs of rollers ensure quiet operation.
  2. The second type of mechanism has a special stop at the bottom guide. This option is not particularly reliable, since the door appears to be suspended in the air and closing it is not very convenient.
  3. Rollers play an important role in the sliding mechanism. The entire process of using doors in the future depends on their type and quality. Cheap sliding door mechanisms are usually equipped with plastic wheels without bearings. This does not have the best effect on both the service life of the door and its performance.

    The best option today is rollers with silicone bearings or those equipped with rubber tires on top. .

    When choosing a sliding mechanism, you must keep in mind the weight of the entire structure: for a door weighing 40-75 kg, a mechanism with two rollers is quite suitable. If the door is more massive (weighing 75-120 kg), then a mechanism with four wheels will be required. It must be remembered that there is no need to skimp on the sliding door mechanism. A good expensive design needs a good, reliable sliding mechanism.

    For different types of sliding doors you need different kinds sliding mechanisms and guides:

  • when installing a cascade door, 2 roller mechanisms are installed on each door leaf, and the guides must, of course, have two gutters;
  • for glass sliding doors, guides are installed both above and below;

Tools and materials

To install the sliding door mechanism, the following materials are required:

  • door leaf (this is the main element);
  • wooden beam 40x40 mm. The length of the beam must be equal to the guide rail;
  • aluminum profile;
  • set of rollers - suspended or support;
  • limiters;
  • mounting kit;
  • aluminum profile – 2 m.

For work you should prepare the following tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • building level;
  • roulette;
  • chisel;
  • hammer.

Installation instructions for sliding door mechanisms

  1. You need to attach a sliding door to the wall near the doorway and mark it on the wall (necessarily both in closed and in open position) its upper edge.
  2. From the measured edge you need to mark 70 mm upward and draw a horizontal line. This is the level of the top edge of the guide mechanism.
  3. A wooden block is attached to the wall. Its bottom edge should follow the line as accurately as possible. The middle of this block should be above the upper corner of the door opening on the side where the door will slide.
  4. The edge of the upper guide is applied from below, to the end of the bar. The outermost hole is marked at a distance, equal to half door thickness+3-5 mm. The guide is secured with a self-tapping screw, the second screw secures the other edge of the guide. The distance from the guide to the wall should allow the door leaf to move.
  5. Support carriages are assembled onto the sliding door mechanism.
  6. The assembled carriages are inserted inside the upper guide. Then you need to check if they move easily.
  7. Travel limiters with rubber shock absorbers are installed on the edges of the guide. The plate without thread is placed outside the profile, and the plate with thread is placed inside it.
  8. Next, a longitudinal groove is made - at the bottom of the door leaf, 15-18 mm deep and 1-2 mm wider than the lower guide flag. There is no need to lubricate this groove with grease.
  9. Along the edges of the aluminum guide, travel stops equipped with rubber shock absorbers should be inserted.

    Important. When mounting round shock absorbers without a lock, a metal plate with threads is placed inside the profile, and a plate without threads is placed outside.

  10. Next, a longitudinal groove is made in the lower part of the door leaf. This groove can be lubricated with any suitable lubricant.
  11. Stepping back about 2 cm from the edge, fastening brackets are mounted on the door - in the middle of the door thickness, at the upper end. The semicircular cutouts of the brackets should face the wall.
  12. The door leaf is hung.
  13. The lower guide roller (or knife, or flag) is installed.
  14. The door is adjusted vertically.
  15. A decorative strip is mounted, it covers the sliding mechanism and 5-10 mm of the upper edge of the door. It can be either fixed or folding. It can be covered with wallpaper - the same as the wall, or you can immediately purchase it to match the desired color of the door.
  16. The installation process of the sliding door mechanism is almost complete. All that remains is to make sure that the design is working properly.

Sections of the article:

Before determining what is good and bad about a certain mechanism for sliding doors, it would be advisable to carry out short review its most common types. Most doors use only three design principles: sliding, swinging and folding.

Of these three, swing doors are the most popular. They historically appeared earlier than others and have a design that is familiar to everyone: the door is fixed in the opening using hinges and can move in one of two directions. This design has a significant drawback: when open, the door occupies quite a significant area.

Folding doors are used relatively rarely. The mechanisms of sliding doors of this type involve the movement of several panels using springs, allowing the structure to fold quite compactly. You can see this type of door in public transport. The disadvantages of this type of design include a low degree of sound insulation.

Sliding door design

In addition to the door panels, the structural set of sliding door mechanisms also contains a number of parts necessary for assembly. Here is a list of parts included in the standard package:

  • Door panels;
  • Box;
  • Guide elements;
  • Accessories;
  • Cassette.

The parts listed are included in standard minimum, so even missing one of them can make assembly impossible.

Door panels

Number of panels for sliding door can range from one to eight. Any door can be used as a door panel, with the exception of doors with a non-standard profile, such as, for example, arched doors.

Single blade system.

Door frame

Despite its name, door frame It has U-shape. The structural element is placed in the opening, and panels are mounted directly on it using the mechanisms of sliding interior doors. The installation process of the box is carried out using screws or adhesives.

Most often, the door frame is equipped with decorative elements, whose sole function is to improve the aesthetic qualities of the door.

Rail mechanism

The rail mechanism is the part that carries out all the functionality of the sliding door mechanism, so the installation process of this element should be taken with full responsibility.
To limit the possible range of door movement, two limiters are provided, one of which is attached from below, and the second from above.

The number of rollers that ensure the door slides along the guide rails should depend on the weight of the door leaf: the greater the weight, the more rollers.

The rail mechanism is quite complex design, so choosing it yourself is not recommended. The best solution will purchase this roller mechanism complete with panels for sliding doors.

Accessories

For the most part, this class of parts includes a variety of door handles. But in the case of sliding doors, the handles must have special form, which minimizes the protrusion of the handle beyond the surface of the door leaf. This design allows you to hide sliding mechanisms into the door cassette.

The standard set of mechanisms for sliding interior doors already includes such a handle, but if necessary, you can select and install the appropriate fittings yourself.

Sliding door fittings also include cylindrical elements that allow the door panel to begin moving with light finger pressure.

Cassette

This structural element may not be included as standard retractable door. Its principle can be illustrated using the example of a video cassette: if you imagine that the door leaf is a video cassette, then the cassette is a box in which the video cassette fits compactly.
