Laying artificial turf yourself - instructions, tips, recommendations. How to properly lay artificial turf under a lawn How to lay artificial turf

Artificial lawn is beautiful and practical. And if styling ornamental grass In the interior it usually does not raise any questions, then the use of coating outdoors requires a careful approach at the stage of selection and installation.

For the street, artificial grass is used for landscape and sports purposes. You can choose one option or another based on the intended purpose of the coating. If this personal plot and the purpose of the artificial lawn is to improve the territory, then a landscape covering is quite sufficient. If we're talking about about the improvement of sports grounds - football stadiums, tennis courts, golf and rugby fields and other places with heavy traffic, it is better to give preference to a specialized sports lawn.

How to fix artificial grass

After we have selected the coverage according to technical specifications you need to take care of its correct installation. There are several ways to lay and fix the coating. How to attach artificial grass to make it reliable and safe:

  • Connecting tape 30 cm wide.
  • Profile two-component adhesive.
  • Staples.

How to Attach Artificial Grass to Concrete

Laying on concrete is used on open terraces, balconies or separate areas for landscaping. When laying the covering on concrete base a substrate must be used. It will not only make use comfortable, but will also protect the lawn from rapid wear due to friction against the base. This is a special geotextile or a thin coating of porous rubber, which can be used both together and separately.

The installation technology is quite simple:
  • The concrete base is cleared of debris.
  • Artificial grass is rolled out with an overlap of 15 mm and left for at least several hours, and ideally for a day, for complete straightening.
  • The sheets of covering are cut end to end and glued together using tape and glue.
  • For maximum rigid fixation, the seams are additionally reinforced with staples.
  • The edges of the site are decorated with decorative borders.

How to Attach Artificial Grass to the Ground

Laying on the ground most often does not require the use of a substrate, but in some cases it cannot be avoided. This applies to sports spaces. Since comfort and protection from accidental injuries are very important here, it is still better to lay a backing to provide shock absorption and maximum protection in case of falls. Laying the coating directly on the ground is not very good good idea. It is better to fill the area with a mixture of sand and gravel and compact it thoroughly.

Before you secure the edges of the artificial grass, you need to make sure that they fit snugly together and have no gaps. It is best to glue immediately after trimming, so that the coating does not have time to deform under the influence of external temperature.

Part of the game markings can be laid during the production of the coating. But, as a rule, sports stadiums require gluing in additional markings in a contrasting color. To do this, at the designated places using construction knife cover strip is cut out the right size. In its place, a connecting tape is laid, which is covered with glue. The markings are fixed with glue and rolled with a roller. It is necessary to ensure that the lint does not get into the joint.

After the glue has dried, the artificial lawn must be covered with a layer of quartz sand with a fraction of 0.4-0.6 mm. To ensure that the layer is uniform, a special technique is used. Then the lawn is combed and covered with finishing filler - rubber crumbs.

Artificial grass is used to replace real grass in certain situations. For example, the developer’s desire to see a green lawn near the house all year round, while devoting a minimum amount of time to it. Artificial grass is laid in places where there is a lot of traffic, this makes it possible not to damage the lawn, since the coating is highly durable. The use of artificial grass to cover sports fields and football fields makes it an indispensable material. Modern artificial surfaces can withstand many freezing cycles and are not afraid of ultraviolet rays.

Artificial grass lawns are installed where there is a lot of foot traffic. Such a lawn is not damaged and is pleasing to the eye in summer and winter.

Artificial grass is laid according to special technology. The final appearance of the lawn or site will depend on its compliance. Failure to follow installation methods will result in damage to the surface and damage to the lawn.

Preparatory work

Artificial grass technology requires preparatory work. First, the surface on which the grass will be laid is selected. Sometimes the grass is laid directly on the asphalt, this is not entirely correct, since the lawn will be hard and it is impossible to accurately calculate the drainage.

Most correct method includes preliminary excavation of soil at the site of the future lawn.

Scheme of artificial turf installation.

The depth of the excavation may vary depending on the size of the lawn and its future use. Usually the depth is 20-30 cm. After removing the soil, crushed stone is poured with a fraction of about 20-40 mm. The thickness of this layer is half the height of the removed soil. Next, crushed stone of a small fraction of 5-10 mm is poured on top of the coarse crushed stone. The height of the layer is maintained based on the thickness of the artificial coating itself. The remaining voids are filled with granite screenings. This method is relevant for play lawns. Purely decorative artificial grass can be laid on a layer of bedding 5-10 cm.

At this stage of work, drainage measures are carried out. A slight slope is created on the lawn in one direction, or a slope is made from its middle towards the perimeter. In the case where the area of artificial turf is large, it should be used laser level or a theodolite to tilt in the desired direction. If the area is rainy or high level groundwater, then special drainage pipes under the lawn or area. Their laying is carried out at the level of adding coarse crushed stone. It should be noted that the depth of soil excavation before adding crushed stone should be 50-60 cm. Laying the covering on football fields and courts requires complex drainage systems, which include built-in piping and water collection trays.

In some cases, the use of a geotextile backing is justified. This is relevant in areas with big amount atmospheric precipitation, as a result there is no drainage of sand from under the coating.

Artificial grass laying technology

1. Site preparation: removing debris, leveling the site. 2. Compact the turf using a pipe or log. 3. Laying the rolls in a checkerboard pattern, joining tightly. 4. The joints are covered with soil and sand. 5. The lawn is fertilized and watered. 6. Leave to sit for a couple of weeks.

You can lay artificial grass on the prepared area in the following way. Rolls of grass are unrolled in the desired area according to the specified dimensions. If necessary, cut off pieces of the covering. Then the rolls are unwound and overlapped together. The overlap width of the rolls when joining is 2-3 cm. After this, the rolls are precisely trimmed to achieve an ideal joint.

During installation, to connect the rolls, bend the edges slightly and place a special connecting tape under them. Its width is about 300 mm. The edges of the covering should meet approximately in the middle of the connecting tape. After this, the tape is lubricated with glue; it can be two-component. The glue is carefully leveled across the entire width of the tape using a not very wide spatula. When the glue is applied to the section of the tape between the parts of the roll being glued together, the edges of the coating are pressed against the tape, and rolled on top with a special roller to completely press the unwound rolls.

There is a technology for stitching together parts of artificial turf. This method used for coating large areas and requires special tools. On a small scale, a tension stapler is used.

The artificial turf on the sports ground is covered with rubber granules, this allows the surface to be preserved for longer.

After gluing the rolls, the lawn is backfilled with quartz sand. This point is important, since the presence of sand prevents the grass fibers from caking. The grains of sand grains should be rounded so as not to damage the coating itself. At large sites, special equipment is used; at home, you can get by with manual filling. Sand consumption depends on the height of the pile and the purpose of the lawn. On average it is 15 kg per m².

The creation of an artificial lawn intended for sports is sprinkled with rubber granules. Their use allows you to preserve the coating.

List of tools for laying artificial grass:

  1. Buckets, shovels (for manual excavation).
  2. Laser level or theodolite.
  3. Special grass cutter, sharp wedge-shaped knife (for small volumes).
  4. Spatula for adhesive composition.
  5. Strong nylon thread (for determining the level).

Laying of artificial grass, carried out in warm and dry weather, according to all practical principles, allows you to obtain high-quality and durable coating.

Negotiable
Before purchasing an artificial lawn, any person has a question: how is artificial grass installed?

Today we will tell you how to do this.

Laying any area with artificial turf begins with arranging the base for it. Quality base– this is 50% of successful coating installation.

The most optimal, in terms of price/quality ratio, is a crushed stone base.

To equip this foundation, excavation of 50-60 cm of soil around the perimeter of the site is required.

Next, the empty space is filled first with crushed stone of a coarse fraction of 20-40 mm, then more fine fraction 5-10 mm. All layers must be well compacted. The final phase is backfilling the screenings, compacting them with a vibrating roller and leveling them according to geodetic calculations.

The site is leveled in such a way that the angle of inclination from the center of the field to its perimeter allows moisture to be removed. The angle of inclination is determined on site depending on the terrain.

Along the perimeter of the field it is necessary to install a linear drainage system to drain rain and melt water. The role of drainage can be performed by special trays made of high-strength polymer with special lids, which will serve as the edge of the field.

After preparing the base, you can carry out work on laying the field.

There are a number of conditions that must be met when laying artificial turf:

  • The base of the field must be dry and warm.
  • Laying of the coating must be done in dry and warm weather. The permissible average daily temperature must be at least 10 degrees Celsius.
  • The site must be completely cleared of construction and household waste.
  • To avoid weed germination, we recommend using regular geotextiles, spreading them around the entire perimeter of the field with a margin of approximately 30 cm at the edge.

So, when all of the above conditions are met, you can begin laying the field, which is divided into several stages.

Stage one:

Rolls must be laid out on the field according to the site plan. The edges of the rolls should overlap each other by 3-5 cm to form an even joint when cutting. In this position, the coating should lie for about a day for leveling and acclimatization.

Stage two:

The edges of the rolls are bent in order to place between them. A special one is applied to the tape at a distance of 5 cm from its edges. Glue consumption is on average from 600 to 1000 g/m2. After applying the glue, the edges of the rolls are immediately pressed against the tape and rolled with a heavy roller.

At this point, decorative installation work can be completed. Also, you can mount decorative artificial grass on vertical surfaces. To do this, you need to attach it to the wall using special screws or dowels.

Laying sports grass involves two more stages:

Stage three:

Marking can be done in 2 ways:

1 Method– marking special paint. This method more economical, but this paint will last from 3 to 5 years.
2 Method– marking insert, which is the same artificial grass, only painted in White color at the factory. This marking option is more labor-intensive, but the paint applied at the factory will last the entire service life of the field.

The final stage of installation is filling in the filler:

The field is covered with sand and rubber crumbs, if provided for by the coating. Backfilling is carried out using special machine, which raises the pile and regulates the level of supply of sand or crumbs. Or this can be done manually, using a rake and a plastic broom.

Calculation of the amount of sand required or crumb rubber It is produced according to the selected type of fiber of the coating thread, as well as the height of the pile.

Easy care.

The economic benefit of using an artificial lawn is that there is no need for equipment to care for a natural lawn.

Save time and money on lawn maintenance.

Disadvantages of artificial turf.

In the sun, artificial grass is hotter than natural grass; temperatures can reach 65.6C.

Artificial turf is laid on a solid base; during operation, a fall of a person can cause more severe injuries than on a natural lawn.

Bacteria that enter the artificial turf during operation multiply faster and can become a source of infection in the event of an injury.

During operation, artificial turf emits harmful substances, contained in pigment, latex, plasticizers.

Precipitation does not penetrate the soil, but is wastewater that pollute the environment.

Artificial turf needs to be washed or cleaned to prevent the growth of fungus and bacteria.

During intensive use, artificial turf must be loosened periodically to restore its original appearance.

The shelf life of artificial turf, according to manufacturers, is 8-10 years. It depends on the quality of the artificial turf. Therefore, after the expiration of its service life, artificial turf must be replaced with a new one.

Artificial lawns are available for sale in different colors, artificial grass lengths, and coating strengths. The choice depends on the taste of the buyer and the purpose of the artificial lawn.

How to lay artificial lawn for a summer house?

1. Mark the lawn.

2. Level the surface and compact it. The lawn should have a slight slope to one side to allow water to drain. Artificial turf can be laid on a solid base - asphalt, concrete base.

3. On both sides of the lawn, where the slope goes, small trenches are made with a slope to drain water.

4. Lay waterproof geofilm. It is glued together at the joints. The film is laid in trenches.

5. A drainage geogrid is laid on the waterproof geofilm and secured together.

6. A filter is placed on the drainage geogrid textile fiber, permeable to water.

7. Start laying artificial turf. The rolls are rolled out, cut with a sharp knife and laid in one direction, which must lie like this for at least 1 day to relieve internal tension. The layout of the artificial turf must overlap at least 15 mm. Trimming the edges roll covering so as to achieve complete coincidence of the joints.

8. Gluing the joints of the rolled sheets is done using connecting tape two-component glue. First, the joining edges of the artificial turf roll cover are raised. The connecting tape is laid out in the middle between the joints under the rolled web. Tape width 25 -30cm. The glue is applied to the connecting tape with a strip width of 20-25 cm. Then the joining edges of the artificial turf are lowered, achieving an even joint, and the seams are rolled with a roller for strong gluing. The edges of the lawn must also be glued and a border made.

After the artificial turf is glued, it is necessary to sprinkle 5-6 kg of sand. This is done in dry weather. To ensure that sand granules penetrate deep into the artificial grass, the lawn is combed. The artificial turf is then covered with rubber or rubber granules and combed again. After half a year, filling with rubber granules is repeated for better elasticity of the artificial turf.
