What kind of cabinet is better to make above the mezzanine door. How to make a mezzanine with your own hands, making corner mezzanines in the hallway above the door, photo. Pilasters with exit

Quite a few new houses with more modern and comfortable layouts are being built. However, in typical “Soviet” apartments with characteristic narrow corridor a huge part of the population of both Russia and the CIS countries still lives in the kitchen and the mezzanine cabinet above the door. Someone decides to get rid of it during renovation, while others are interested in how to make the mezzanine in the kitchen more aesthetically pleasing and modern. Every decision has its own reason.

A little about the approach to repairing and ordering furniture

It would be foolish to refuse a convenient and spacious cabinet above the kitchen door. Therefore, few people completely demolish it - most often, during repairs, owners are interested in the question of how to make a mezzanine with their own hands in the corridor, update the structure itself and the external design.

Personally, I am somewhat skeptical about towns and cities with all sorts of nailed-on blocks and strips in attempts to create a mezzanine in the kitchen with minimal effort. Whatever they come up with - they paint over the old ones plywood structures with a thick layer of paint, glue decorative film and even oilcloth just to somehow improve the look of obsolete furniture. All this is useless. As they say, the horse is dead, get off it. If you do it, then do it. Take out the old stuff completely and make a normal, new mezzanine.

There are two ways:

  1. Assemble a box from plasterboard. Only the facade part will be made from “furniture” materials (chipboard, plywood, solid wood or MDF).
  2. Assemble the cabinet frame and facades entirely from chipboard or plywood. The mezzanine itself will be “suspended” on supports, long narrow slats. And it moves a little onto the upper door frame, as if “standing” on it.

Let's consider both options.

How to make a mezzanine from plasterboard

If after repair there are pieces left metal profile and a small remainder of drywall - you can also use it. It is enough to assemble a frame for fastening the bottom and make some kind of mortgages for fastening the facade.

Be careful - there is usually wiring in the adjacent wall. It would be a good idea to “ring” the intended drilling locations. special tool so as not to touch the wires.

The assembled frame can be sheathed not only with plasterboard, but also with any light sheet material. For example, thin plywood or thick fiberboard.

After covering the mezzanine frame with wallpaper, all that remains is to make the façade part. There are two opening options - a folding top or a side-hinged one. Facades are selected according to general style kitchens, the easiest way is to order them from the same material as the doors. For example, MDF or acrylic.

In any case, you will need to lay a narrow strip to which they will be attached. furniture hinges for false panels. In the first case, there will be one vertical plank, in the second - two horizontal ones on both sides of the mezzanine.

How to make a mezzanine from chipboard or plywood

There are two options here. Make a mezzanine for the kitchen by analogy with the previous method. That is:

  • Secure the bottom with metal corners or bars onto which it slides.
  • Assemble the panel for fastening the front part, as for a built-in wardrobe.

By the way, the facades can be made not hinged, but sliding, but the access will be exactly twice as wide as the width of the sliding door. Therefore, if you plan to use the mezzanine in the kitchen above the door in the hallway for storing large items, it is better to abandon this idea.

As the bottom you need to use plywood, solid wood or clapboard type boards - any fibrous material. The chipboard is too fragile, the chips do not provide the necessary elasticity and the bottom, without additional rigidity, will simply bend and break under its own weight.

The second option is to assemble a full-fledged cabinet, with its own walls (possibly without a roof), lift it and slide it onto special mortgages in the form of planks or a metal corner.

Such a cabinet will “stand” on the side supports on both sides and on the door jamb on the third side. You can make a mezzanine in the apartment through, opening from both sides, from the kitchen and from the hallway, if necessary.

The design will look like this.

The main thing is to correctly measure the niche from all sides. The bottom of the mezzanine cabinet in the corridor above the door is made larger than the side walls. That is, the side walls move slightly (a couple of centimeters) towards the center. This play will help the mezzanine “stand up” more tightly when the walls converge or diverge. After all, you can always file the bottom in place - and the side walls will not interfere with this.

One more nuance. If you make a mezzanine in the hallway/kitchen from chipboard, then you need to install a stiffener that would strengthen the bottom. But it’s better, as I wrote above, to choose plywood or solid wood.

The French word "entresol" has several meanings. One of them indicates a shelf for things located under the ceiling. As a rule, mezzanines are arranged in small apartments ah in the doorways.

The traditional places for their location are hallways, corridors, kitchens and even bathrooms. Mezzanine designs can be very different, but they all add additional space for storing household utensils. When carefully executed, the mezzanine does not distort the interior, but takes up a full-fledged place in it.

The work of installing a mezzanine can be done by anyone with their own hands. home handyman even those who do not have high professional skills. The main thing is to carefully follow a certain algorithm.

If you install the mezzanine yourself, according to step by step instructions, you will install it under the ceiling convenient shelf for storing rarely used items.

The mezzanine is a shelf that is located under the ceiling. This design can be installed in the hallway, kitchen, bathroom or toilet. The main thing is that the mezzanine should not visually reduce the height of the ceiling, and care should be taken that it fits harmoniously into the interior of the room. By making it yourself, you will save money and get rid of the problem of cluttering the room with objects that are rarely used in everyday life. To complete the work you will need simple tools and some time.

Main types of mezzanines

Before you start making a multifunctional structure, you need to decide on the type of mezzanine that suits you. Depending on the purpose and device, they distinguish the following types products:

  1. Stationary mezzanine. Attaches directly to the wall.
  2. Furniture mezzanine. Placed on the top tier of cabinets.

Your choice will depend on the room in which you plan to install the structure. The thing is that the mezzanine is located at a decent height above your head. It is very important to pay enough attention to securing it in order to maximally protect the residents of the apartment. Never use a cantilever arrangement for a shelf, in which the fastening is performed on only one side.

To save as much space as possible in a small room, install a simple corner mezzanine. The product can be mounted on a cabinet or hung permanently.

It is best to place the mezzanine in a small corridor or other room with a small width. In this case, the structure is attached directly to two opposite walls, its weight is distributed evenly. Additional decor is needed only for the front and bottom plane of the shelf.

How to place it in an apartment?

The suspended product cannot be installed in any location. There are certain rules for this.

  • The mezzanine should not block access to the window or door or interfere with their opening.
  • The appearance of the room and its ergonomics should not be compromised. If you hang a shelf incorrectly, it can make the room look too narrow, low, or elongated. Be sure to maintain the effect of open space.
  • For a room with high ceilings you can safely use the gallery mezzanine. This design encircles the room with three sides and is well suited for placing a home library. However, please note that the width of the gallery mezzanine, taking into account bookshelves will be about a meter, while standard size the shelves are much smaller.
  • Quite often, mezzanines are used in bathrooms and kitchens. Before installing the product, make sure that the wall structure can withstand such a load.

Ideal place for a shelf

Most often, mezzanines are placed above front door. This space under the ceiling is almost never used. To compactly place rarely used accessories, use a spacious mezzanine in the kitchen. This product will free up more space and rid the room of clutter.

The best place to place a mezzanine is a narrow and long corridor, hallway or living room. There is no need to be afraid that the room will decrease in height, because the shelf will only take up a small part of the wall. Such furniture will help modify the layout and make it more interesting.

Choosing material

At the stage of choosing a building material for a superstructure, several main factors must be taken into account. These include: style, your taste preferences, environmental friendliness and practicality. Most often, mezzanines are made from natural wood, chipboard or drywall.

Let's compare the advantages and disadvantages of these materials using the table:

Material

Advantages

Flaws

Solid wood

1. Environmentally friendly material;

2. Durable;

3. Easy to process;

4. If there is minor damage, the texture can be easily restored.

1. It is expensive;

2. Sensitive to moisture;

3. Sudden changes in temperature may cause deformation.

Drywall

  1. It is inexpensive;
  2. Good sound insulation and energy saving;
  3. Suitable for both dry air and high humidity rooms;
  4. Plastic;
  5. Has little weight;
  6. Easy to install.

1.The material is quite fragile, its transportation requires special care;

2. Helps to slightly reduce the volume of the room;

3. Artificial material.

  1. It is inexpensive;
  2. The surface is flat and smooth;
  3. May be large in size;
  4. Suitable for use in rooms with high humidity.
  1. Small chips and damage are almost impossible to repair;
  2. Over time, it becomes loose and may not hold fasteners well;
  3. Artificial material.

Which of these options you prefer is up to you. For example, a mezzanine made of chipboard is more suitable for a bathroom, and a mezzanine made of natural wood is more suitable for a living room.

If desired, you can easily combine artificial and natural material. The tree is very beautiful in appearance, but expensive. You can use it to make the external walls and façade of the superstructure, and for the internal shelves you can safely use chipboard or MDF. If you prefer a mezzanine open type, make sections from glass or metal.

The main stages of creating a stationary mezzanine

  1. First of all, prepare required material and decide on the size of the future add-on.
  2. After this, you can begin creating the drawing. Calculate the length and width of the furniture panels and distribute them in such a way that you have as little waste as possible. There will be shelves inside, and on the sides - metal corners to strengthen the structure.
  3. According to the drawing, we mark individual parts on the material and cut them out using a jigsaw or circular saw.
  4. Every separate element We process the mezzanine façade with a milling machine. Special attention pay attention to the doors.
  5. We make the internal shelves of the product from chipboard or plasterboard. Their thickness should be sufficient to support the weight of the things you plan to put in the mezzanine.
  6. We connect all the structural parts using self-tapping screws. We attach metal “ears” to the rear panel, which are necessary for attaching the mezzanine.

The doors of the product can be sliding or hinged. For decoration, use self-adhesive, veneer, paintwork. If you are not confident in your design capabilities, you can make a mezzanine yourself, and order the production of decorative doors from the workshop that will harmoniously complement the interior of the room.

Product mounting options

There are two most common ways to securely attach a stationary mezzanine:

  1. Usage wooden beams. To do this, you will need blocks with drilled holes every 25 cm. Use building level to draw a perfectly straight line on the wall. We apply it to it wooden elements and make a mark in each hole. Using a drill, we make holes 60 mm deep, and insert plastic dowels into each. After this, you can safely fasten the rail with reliable self-tapping screws. This mounting method is suitable for installing a mezzanine between two walls.
  2. Using a metal profile. For such work, you will need a PN 28x27mm ceiling profile, which must be secured around the perimeter of the lower part of the product. We make cross members from PP 60x27 mm. The lower part of such a frame is necessarily sheathed with plasterboard, and the top is covered with a durable sheet of plywood. The structure must be rigid enough to support the weight of the mezzanine with things and not bend.

Use the advice of professionals to correctly and accurately fasten the structure.

  • The bottom of the shelf must be at a height of at least 2 meters. All the remaining space up to the ceiling can be taken up with things.
  • If you are mounting the structure above the front door, make sure that the bottom is aligned with the top doorway. This way the mezzanine will look more harmonious.
  • There should be no free space between the top of the product and the ceiling. This area will not be useful to you in any way and will only collect dust.
  • Do not install the mezzanine in close proximity to the light source if you do not want to darken the room.

Manufacturing of furniture mezzanine

The second type of construction is a furniture mezzanine. This is a kind of add-on in the form of a small cabinet.

It is manufactured according to the same principle as a stationary product. However, there are some differences:

  1. The furniture mezzanine must exactly repeat the style of the product on which it will be placed.
  2. To make such a design, you first need to select the most suitable material identical texture and color. The type of fittings must also match.
  3. If you use chipboard to make a furniture mezzanine, give preference to already laminated material. As a last resort, you can cover it with self-adhesive paper of a similar color.
  4. Chipboard sheets are fastened together with ordinary metal corners.

If you like to experiment with style, you can make your own mezzanine furniture in a different color. This will help highlight your personality and taste.

Additional fastening of such a mezzanine is not required. It is enough to place the cabinet on top of the furniture.

Making sliding doors with your own hands

Sliding doors are very convenient and compact. You can make them yourself using the step-by-step guide:

  1. You will need plastic profile with grooves. You need to cut it into two parts along the width of the mezzanine.
  2. Using a hammer drill, we fix the profiles to the ceiling close to each other.
  3. We cut out the doors for the structure from chipboard using a jigsaw or circular saw. We carefully process each element milling machine. Subsequently, they can be decorated at your discretion. We attach handles for convenience.
  4. We insert the finished elements into the grooves of the profile, securing them along the contour with a plastic frame. In this case, all extraneous details will be securely hidden.

Ready! Sliding doors should open easily. Check if anything is blocking them.

Creating swing doors

Hinged doors are best made from veneered MDF or chipboard. Less commonly, plastic is used for such products. Cutting out the elements the right size and sand them with coarse sandpaper. Front side The doors can be decorated at your discretion.

For fastening swing doors piano hinges are used. They are first attached to the sashes, and only after that - to the main part of the mezzanine. To ensure that these products are perfectly level, use a building level when working, otherwise your efforts may result in skewed doors.

WITH outside don't forget to attach the handles. In order for the doors to close as tightly as possible, with inside You can attach a clamp and a magnet.

A mezzanine is a useful and multifunctional piece of furniture that will help free up space in your apartment. Anyone can make such a design on their own with a little effort. Before you begin work, be sure to think through the design of the product and select suitable materials for it.

Unused balances building materials in the form of sheets of chipboard, MDF or plastic can be successfully used on the farm. From them you can make many useful things for storage - these are cabinets and chests of drawers, mezzanines and cabinets. Do you want to know how to create additional storage space in your apartment with your own hands?

Storerooms

In the incredibly cramped conditions of modern small-sized apartments, the issue of creating additional storage space is especially acute. Do-it-yourself mezzanines, cabinets and storage rooms serve as “storage items”.

The most suitable designs for storing things are:
mezzanine
cabinets
chests of drawers
cabinets - storage rooms.
Typically, mezzanines are located between the corridor and the kitchen, as well as the bathroom or directly in the hallway. Making a mezzanine or cabinet does not require complex “sophisticated” drawings and expensive building materials.

Side tables and chests of drawers can be placed in the corridor or hallway. The designs of chests of drawers and cabinets are simple and do not require complex fastening elements, but they have sufficient capacity. Decorated in style and design, such additional storage space in the apartment will appeal to its inhabitants.

By the way, the prototype of modern wardrobes was an ordinary closet from a pantry. Therefore, it is more expedient to convert the apartment’s storage room into a stylish dressing room.

How to make a mezzanine with your own hands

The simplest structure to manufacture is the mezzanine.
The mezzanine is a flooring (shelf) made of boards, chipboard, MDF, multi-layer plywood with a durable base. To attach the mezzanine to the walls use wooden blocks 40x40 mm in size, brackets or metal corners.

Mezzanines are equipped with doors swing type, which are fastened with hinged hinges. The installation of bars for attaching the mezzanine depends on the material of the wall structure. For strong walls made of concrete or brick, a simple method of attaching the flooring to the bars is used.

mezzanine on wooden blocks

To install a mezzanine, you need to calculate its height, draw a horizontal line and cut wooden blocks of the required length. Then mounting holes are drilled in the block at intervals of 25 cm. We apply the block with marks to the wall and mark the location of the holes.

At the points marked on the wall, we use a puncher to make holes up to 60 mm deep. We hammer dowels of the required diameter into the resulting mounting holes. We apply the beam and fasten it to the wall with self-tapping screws. The size of the mezzanine flooring is made in such a way that it can be installed on wooden blocks. A small gap is allowed between the wall and the base of the mezzanine.

mezzanine on a metal profile

Durable and reliable design is a mezzanine mounted on a metal profile. As a supporting surface for such a mezzanine, a lathing is made from a metal ceiling profile. At the horizontal level, it fastens PN guides 28x27 mm.

Then from main ceiling profile PP 60x27 make lintels along the length or width of the mezzanine. If the mezzanine is wide, additional fastening with suspensions to the ceiling is possible. For the base of the mezzanine, you can use chipboard or a sheet of plasterboard. The bottom of the mezzanine made of chipboard is attached around the perimeter to the guides with self-tapping screws. The sheet of plasterboard, which is the base of the mezzanine, is sewn up in the traditional way, followed by decorative finishing.

mezzanine doors

Doors are a decorative element of mezzanines. Doors for mezzanines are made from the base material from which the mezzanine itself is made. These can be sheets of chipboard, veneered, MDF, pieces of plastic. We prepare the doors according to the dimensions of the mezzanines, we process the edges of large sandpaper and decorate.

The doors can be decorated with veneer, paint or painted to match the ceiling and walls. It is preferable to use piano hinges to secure doors. The hinges are first attached to the doors, and then only to the place where the mezzanines are attached. To avoid distortions, use a building level to correct the location of the doors. Possible options doors for mezzanines: hinged and sliding. Handles are attached to the outside of the doors, and latches and magnets are attached to the inside to prevent the doors from opening.

How to make a cabinet in the hallway with your own hands

If you plan to make a single-leaf cabinet for shoes or things for the hallway, it is preferable to use ready-made furniture panels. Furniture panels are ready-to-install wood products in the most common sizes.

The surface of the boards, as a rule, is already processed and has a marketable appearance. The most common sizes of furniture panels are: 1600x400x18. You can easily make a cabinet with your own hands from shields of this thickness.
Structurally, the hallway cabinet consists of the following elements:
two sidewalls
bottom
face strip
shelves and several drawers.

Initially, the future sidewalls, bottom, front strip, shelf and niche of the cabinet are marked on the boards. By the way, such a cabinet can be used not only for the hallway; the dimensions of the elements of the cabinet must first be calculated and checked. After the specified dimensions, we cut out the blanks of the cabinet elements. In each workpiece it is necessary to drill a hole for furniture dowels.

Using furniture dowels, the elements of the cabinet are fastened. Prepare the cabinet door as well. Then coat the dowels and holes with wood glue. Install the cabinet elements according to the product sketch. Assemble the frame of the cabinet and secure them with self-tapping screws.

After installing the main elements, the bottom and door of the cabinet are installed. The cabinet door is attached using furniture edges.

Similar to the design of the cabinet, you can make a small chest of drawers with several drawers, which is assembled and decorated according to the same rules.
How to make a simple box and assemble it, and then make a cabinet or chest of drawers is shown in the video.

In essence, the mezzanine is a shelf located under the ceiling, installed in apartment corridors, kitchens, bathrooms and toilets. The main thing is that such a design does not negatively affect the height of the ceiling. It should fit harmoniously into general interior in the house. The presence of a mezzanine will solve the problem of cluttering the living space with items that are not used so often. Making and installing a mezzanine is not difficult; anyone who knows how to use a simple tool can handle the task.

The main structural parts are the frame and the bottom. It is worth noting that most often the frame is equipped with doors - hinged or sliding. If heavy objects will be stored on the mezzanine, then you should equip the bottom of this simple structure with a reliable fastening.

Since the location of the mezzanine is always above the head, and this structure is supported exclusively by side fasteners, they should be made very reliable and strong. To do this, calculate the load of the mezzanine, because the heavier the things will be stored on it, the more powerful the fastener itself should be.

Before you begin work on making a mezzanine, carefully measure the dimensions, make sure that the structure will not disturb anyone in the household, and that no one will hit their head on it. It is worth noting that minimum distance from the mezzanine to the floor is 2 m. The mezzanine, among other things, must have a comfortable not only height, but also depth. After all, the deeper the structure, the more things can be hidden in it, but it is inconvenient to get anything out of an excessively deep niche. This means that the depth and height of the mezzanine must be reasonable.

Technological process

Mark at what distance from the floor the mezzanine will be, draw a horizontal line along the mark. A block or profile of the required length will be attached to it. All materials must be reliable. And the fastenings are as fixed as possible. Cut two bars of equal length, and then attach them to the walls on two opposite sides. These bars will serve as the basis for the flooring. Fastening the bars to the walls depends on the material from which the walls are made.

The bottom of the mezzanine can be made of boards, plywood or chipboard. You will learn about arranging a mezzanine with a bottom made of boards. Lay them on the bars, and then secure them to them. Cut a plastic profile with grooves along the width of the mezzanine. The doors will subsequently be attached to it. There should be 2 such sections. The profiles are fixed to the ceiling using a hammer drill - one after the other.

At this stage you need to make doors, in in this case sliding, moving along the profile. Cut them out of chipboard; you can also use laminate for this purpose. If you made doors from chipboard, then you will need to open them with paint on one side and cover them on the other self-adhesive film suitable color. If desired, you can screw a handle to one of the doors.

Insert the finished doors into the grooves of the profile. Check how easily the doors move on it. The bars and other parts are covered with plastic frames, which should be selected in accordance with the color of the hallway or the doors themselves. Depending on how the corridor ceiling is finished, finish the lower part of the mezzanine.

It is not necessary to use doors for the mezzanine; instead, you can hang a beautiful curtain. This is, so to speak, an economical option. To do this, take a piece of fabric of the required size, fold the bottom and stitch it along its length, leaving a small hole on both sides. A thin fishing line is threaded into it. The fishing line is secured to dowels.

Now finished design can be loaded with things. Making mezzanines with your own hands is not as difficult as it might seem. Although it is quite difficult to use imagination here, with some effort you can make the mezzanine an attractive part of the interior.
