The nuances of assembling a siphon for a kitchen sink. How to properly install a siphon on a kitchen sink: assembly and installation tips How to screw a siphon to a sink

About such a simple but extremely important element drainage, like a siphon, we remember only occasionally looking under the sink or in case of sewer blockage. ? Siphons are installed under the sinks in the bathrooms and in the kitchen. At the same time, in the kitchen, the siphon can combine two sinks and a dishwasher at once, and in the bathroom - a washbasin and a washing machine. The purpose of this device is to prevent the spread of sewer odors in the room and facilitate the process of clearing blockages.

Siphon. Varieties and features

To choose a siphon for a sink (the cost is about 120-200 rubles), and then install it correctly, it is worth considering its possible design features and appointment.

  1. Pipe siphons they are a pipe connected between the sink and the sewer pipe, bent in the form of the letter S (or U) tube, in the lower part of which waste accumulates. Cleaning is done after disconnecting the tube and disposing of its contents, followed by flushing.
    A significant drawback of the pipe siphon is a small water seal, which can evaporate if you do not use the sink for several days, then bad smell sewer will enter the room.

  • outwardly similar to a pipe, but it is made of a flexible corrugated plastic tube with a connecting node.
    Despite the fact that, due to its plasticity, the corrugated siphon can be connected to any sink, the operating conditions do not allow the presence of boiling water or concentrated chemicals in the tube. Corrugated siphons unsuitable for installation in unheated rooms.

  • Bottle siphon outwardly similar to a vessel (conical or cylindrical), made of plastic, cast iron, steel, brass or other material. In the upper part and on the side wall there are holes for connecting pipes, and the bottom of the siphon is collapsible (threaded connection). By unscrewing the bottom, you can clean the siphon cavity from blockage.
    There are models of bottle siphons, supplemented with a corrugated pipe for ease of docking with a sewer pipe.

  • branched siphons allow you to connect several inlet pipes from sinks at once, household appliances. Structurally, they resemble bottle bottles, but with a slightly more complex design.

  • Siphons concealed installation. The most expensive model of all available. Ideal for installation under washbasins mounted on open shelves or wall-mounted. The design of the siphon is hidden in a small niche behind a decorative screen.
  • Bathtub or sink siphons with corrugated pipe for connecting the upper drain hole (overflow).

Siphon details

Consider a generalized set of siphons. When buying in a kit, you should see the following details:

  • exhaust pipe(spout) with threaded metal insert And gasket from rubber;
  • fixing nuts made of plastic with a diameter of 32, 40 or 50 mm, respectively;
  • conical cuff rubber (diameter 50, 40 or 32 mm);
  • cuff adjusting with soft skirt with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the nozzle;
  • clamping screw(best from of stainless steel) And overlay-filter for draining (also in stainless steel) with gasket (silicone plastic or oil-resistant rubber);
  • siphon body(one of the types listed above, for example, bottled);
  • drain plug from rubber.

The bottle siphon must additionally contain O-ring from rubber.

Preparation for dismantling and installation of the siphon for the sink / washbasin

The entire preparation process consists in the preparation (purchase) of the following materials/tools:

  • siphon (check its integrity before installation by disassembling and inspecting every detail, Special attention giving threaded connections);
  • sealant (based on silicone or natural rubber, odorless or with a subtle aroma, which indicates the suitability of the sealant for plumbing work);
  • electrical tape;
  • an ordinary small screwdriver;
  • wrench;
  • cellophane bag, rags;
  • bucket or basin.

If you plan to dismantle the old cast-iron siphon, a hammer, chisel, chisel will come in handy.

Note! Standard sizes sewer pipes - 32, 40, 50 mm. If you are in doubt about the choice, purchase siphons with a stepped end of the spout. You just have to try on and, if necessary, cut off the extra steps of the part and purchase a sealant. If you purchased a siphon not right size, the rubber adapter will correct the situation.

We dismantle the old siphon

To install a new siphon, you will have to dismantle the old one.

  1. We turn off the main water supply valve in the apartment.
  2. We put a basin or bucket under the old siphon. The liquid remaining inside the siphon will drain into it.

  3. We take a screwdriver and unscrew the fixing bolt from the sink drain filter (counterclockwise).

  4. We unwind all the details of the old siphon with our hands or with an adjustable wrench. We remove the siphon, plug the sewer pipe with a bag.

  5. Take out the drain filter and wipe it with a rag inner surface shells. Now you can install a new siphon.

Note! Before installing a new siphon, it is recommended to clean the inner surface sewer pipe from flying. This will prevent the formation of blockages in the system.

To dismantle the cast-iron siphon, it will have to be split with a hammer and chisel. This is quite painstaking and dangerous work. Make sure that the fragments do not injure you and do not penetrate into the sewer pipe. Remove all traces of old cement.

How to assemble a bottle siphon

  1. We put on an annular gasket (usually made of rubber of blue color) on the threaded connection of the upper collapsible part of the bottle siphon.
  2. We fasten the lower part (bottom) of the siphon (threaded connection).
  3. We take a spout-pipe and put on it two plastic tightening nuts and an annular gasket of a suitable size.
  4. Insert spout into top hole siphon body. Tighten the plastic nut (but not too tight).
  5. We take a corrugated hose. We put a nut and gasket on it. We insert the hose into the side hole of the siphon body. We tighten the nut.
  6. We put a gasket on the upper hole of the spout tube and screw the drain with a nut.

Step 1. We check the compatibility of the filter grate (it is recommended to purchase a stainless steel filter grate for the sink / sink) with the washbasin drain hole. If the grate size exceeds the diameter of the stamped recess of the sink, then it is recommended to install using a sealant (without a gasket). But it is much better to replace the part in the store with a suitable size.

If the size matches, install the grate on the gasket, lubricating the surface with a small layer of sealant.

We insert the fixing bolt into the filter grate, bring the docking pipe with the gasket under the drain hole, align it and fasten it with the fixing bolt to the drain hole.

Step 2

Step 3 We check the threads at the ends of the siphon body. Use a sharp knife to remove any burrs that could damage the gaskets.

Step 4. In the cuff installed in sewer pipe, insert the outlet end of the outlet pipe from the siphon. If necessary, you can install a clamp.

Step 5. We assemble the siphon (the assembly technology is described above) and fasten it with plastic fastening nuts to the docking pipe under the drain hole.

We fasten the siphon to the docking pipe under the drain hole

If the siphon is corrugated, at this stage we install the latch. We connect the outlet pipe to the outlet of the siphon and fasten it to the mounting cuff in the sewer pipe.

We connect the outlet pipe to the outlet of the siphon

Step 6. Turn on the water and check the tightness of the structure.

If you install a siphon for a double sink, then, respectively, under each drain hole of the sink, you should screw the outlet pipe and connect it to the siphon.

Branched siphons, to which washing / dishwashers are connected, are mounted in the same way, only flexible hoses from household appliances.

Concealed siphons are installed in a special niche under the sink. The siphon is connected to the sink and sewer pipe, and the outer part is hidden behind a decorative overlay plate.

Frequent blockages, slow draining of water, leaks and the penetration of sewer odors into the room - all this suggests that the kitchen sink needs urgent help. In most cases, such problems are due to poor-quality installation or breakage of the siphon. To replace it, it is not at all necessary to call the specialized specialists of the utility service, since you can install the siphon in the kitchen quite independently.

Types of siphons and selection rules

The functional purpose of siphons is, first of all, to protect against the penetration of unpleasant odors into the room from the domestic sewer system. Despite the apparent variety of models, the principle of operation of devices is almost the same. When draining used water from various sanitary appliances, part of it remains inside the siphon, forming a water plug that prevents the occurrence of extraneous odors and noise when using the sewer. Similar products represented by the following types:

  • flexible corrugated S-shaped hose;
  • U-shaped tubular structure;
  • bottle-shaped element.

The main disadvantage of the design of the first two types of siphons is the lack of revision, which greatly complicates preventive work during their maintenance during operation. Such siphons are most often used for washbasins in toilets and bathrooms. For kitchen sink more practical is the use of bottle-shaped products. Their collapsible body allows you to periodically clean the container hydraulic shutter from accumulating food debris and fatty deposits on the walls of the siphon.

The determining criterion in choosing one or another type of bottle siphons is, first of all, the design of the sink itself. It can be provided with an additional drain hole in the upper part of the side wall, which serves to prevent water from overflowing over the edge when the tank is filled to the maximum. In this case, you should pay attention to the siphons with an additional overflow pipe.

For double sinks, connection to the sewer system may include one common or two separate siphons for each tank. Such designs are distinguished by somewhat complicated communication wiring.

Installing a siphon in the kitchen makes it possible to connect a nearby dishwasher or washing machine to its drain pipe. Such additional option greatly facilitates the process of connecting household appliances to the sewer, so when choosing the right product, this point should also not be overlooked.

When choosing a siphon, the diameter of its drain pipe is of no small importance. The maximum possible hole size for a particular kitchen sink model will ensure faster draining of the utilized water and prevent frequent clogging.

Main components and components

The bottle siphons produced today have a fairly standard appearance and are a design consisting of several main components.

  1. Protective metal grid with a decorative nickel-plated finish.
  2. Overflow pipe.
  3. Additional outlet for connecting a dishwasher or washing machines s.
  4. Siphon body.
  5. Outlet pipe for connection to the sewer system.
  6. Silicone gasket that ensures the tightness of the threaded connection of the collapsible siphon body.
  7. Cap nuts.

In addition, the product package includes flexible corrugated hoses, gaskets for union nuts and several metal screws for fastening.

The vast majority of these products are made from plastic. Therefore, before changing the siphon in the kitchen, you should make sure that all its nodes are intact. First of all, the body of the product should not have hidden cracks. This can be easily checked by pouring some water into its container. Also, attention should be paid to the notch of the thread of plastic parts, its relief, the absence of visible dents and burrs.

Installing or replacing a siphon in the kitchen provides for some additional materials and tools needed for the job. In most cases, they are always at hand at the home master:

  • screwdriver;
  • pliers;
  • insulating tape made of polymeric material;
  • silicone sealant.

Despite the almost complete lack of water pressure in the drain system of the kitchen sink, many experts, however, strongly advise the use of a water-resistant sealant specifically designed for the production plumbing work. The composition must be treated with all threaded connections of the product, as well as installed gaskets.

The application of the sealant is prerequisite for a quality siphon assembly!

It is required to assemble in exact accordance and in the strictly specified order, determined by the attached instructions. In doing so, you must adhere to the following recommendations:

  • it is advisable to disassemble the assembled product to make sure that all parts and gaskets are present;
  • there should be no dirt or burrs on the elements to be joined that prevent their tight fit;
  • when screwing the bottom cover of the siphon, do not apply excessive force, as this can easily strip the threads or push through the included gasket.

To check the build quality of the siphon for leakage, you need to pour into it a small amount of water. In the absence of smudges on the bottom cover, you can safely proceed with its installation.

Installation of the assembled siphon

In cases of replacement earlier installed product, it will require its preliminary dismantling. Before you disassemble the siphon in the kitchen, you need to put some kind of container under the sink to drain the remaining water. Then, using a screwdriver, unscrew the fixing screw holding the decorative drain grille at the bottom of the sink. After disconnecting the outlet from the sewer, the siphon can be permanently removed.

To install a new device, the old seat kitchen sink must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and grease. It will also be necessary to check the condition of the rubber sealing sleeve on the socket outlet of the sewer system, which, nevertheless, is recommended to be replaced with a new sleeve. At the same time, preventive cleaning of the sewer bed itself will not be superfluous.

Installation of the assembled siphon is carried out in the following sequence:

  • an outlet pipe is inserted into the drain hole of the sink, with a pre-installed rubber gasket, on which a decorative grille is fastened with a screw;
  • from below, the outlet is tightly attracted to the sink by means of a union nut;
  • the assembled siphon is put on the end part of the pipe, after which the elements are connected into a single structure with a second union nut;
  • if there is an overflow hole in the sink, it is connected to the corresponding outlet of the drain pipe using the supplied flexible hose;
  • a corrugated drain hose leading to the kitchen sewer system is connected to the outlet of the siphon located on the side wall of the housing. To do this, use another union nut;
  • at the final stage, a connection is made to the sewer pipe by means of a transitional sealing sleeve, since the mating parts have different diameters.

Upon completion of installation, an initial check is carried out. assembled structure by filling the kitchen sink with water.

If the siphon has additional outlets for connecting household appliances, they must first be closed with special plugs!

If there are no leaks, proceed to connect the drain hoses of the washing machine or dishwasher, after which the installation of the siphon can be considered complete.

The operation of gravity sewers requires compliance with certain rules. When wondering how to properly install a siphon in the kitchen, you should take into account some of the nuances that are well known to professionals:

  • flexible drain hose leading from the siphon to the sewer pipe is set to the minimum possible length, without unnecessary bends;
  • the slope of a sewer bed with a diameter of 50 mm can be at least 0.03, that is, 30 mm for each running meter pipes, which will ensure the normal flow of water in the system;
  • when connecting drain hoses from household appliances to the siphon, they must be additionally fixed to the corresponding pipes with clamps. Such a precautionary measure will prevent an unexpected failure of the hose as a result of the increase in pressure in it, which is created in the drain system of the operating equipment.

In conclusion, it remains to add that proper care and regular preventive cleaning of the siphon from accumulated contaminants will significantly extend its service life and eliminate discomfort when using the kitchen sink.

Reading time: 5 minutes

Siphon performs important features: thanks to the water stopper, it does not allow odors from the sewerage to enter the room and protects pipes from frequent blockages. If drain system worn out or out of order, its replacement does not need to be postponed until later. It is not difficult to change the siphon under the sink on your own, it does not require special skills and complex tools, the main thing is to know how to do it correctly.

Siphon types

Before replacing the siphon, you will have to select and purchase a new product. First, let's get acquainted with the varieties of this device.

According to the principle of operation, the siphons used in the sink in the kitchen or in the washbasin in the bathroom are divided into the following:

  • Bottle with a submerged tube (a water stopper is created by two cylinders, one of which is inserted into the other). It is used more often than other types due to the possibility of removing accumulated contaminants by unscrewing the plug from below.
  • Bottle with two partitions.
  • Pipe. Such a product has the form of a pipe bent in the shape of the letter ā€œSā€ or ā€œUā€, due to the bending of which a water seal is created.
  • . It is a plastic corrugation, curved and fixed in the desired position with a clamp.

Previously, drain devices were made of steel and cast iron, but now practical and inexpensive plastic is most often used for siphons and other plumbing equipment. It is not subject to corrosion, does not rot and does not retain dirt. Plastic tolerates cleaning with the use of a cable and chemicals.

The cheapest products are made of polyethylene and PVC, their service life does not exceed 6 years. Siphons made of polypropylene and ABS plastic will live for more than 10 years.

How to choose a drain device?

The product is designed simply, and it is easy to disassemble it to check the absence of defects. It must be free of defects on the surface and in threaded connections. Gaskets are used elastic and lubricated with silicone sealant.

  • It is more difficult to choose a pipe drain, since it has a rigid structure: its nozzles must be exactly aligned with the holes of the sink and sewer bed.
  • If there are problems with free space or an inconvenient arrangement of pipes will save the situation.
  • For a kitchen sink, it is better to take a drain with even walls, since the corrugations quickly become clogged with dirt.
  • If there is absolutely no space under the sink, you should choose a special one.

To install the drain device, you need to purchase an odorless silicone sealant. Acid compounds will not work.

Siphon replacement

The process of replacing the siphon under the sink consists of the following steps:

  • Dismantling the old drain. Work is being done on the bucket. A rag is prepared in advance, which should immediately close the hole in the sewer pipe to avoid an unpleasant odor.
  • After dismantling, the remaining contaminants are removed and the sewer pipe is cleaned.
  • Threaded connections on the body of the siphon are checked for burrs. If they are, they are carefully cut with a knife. You also need to make sure that all gaskets are in place.
  • The sink drain grate is leveled and installed with a gasket or sealant to prevent leakage.
  • A thick gasket is put on the outlet of the sink, after which it is placed from below in the center of the drain hole of the sink. A screw is inserted into the central hole and screwed with a screwdriver so that the drain grate and outlet are firmly pressed against the sink.
  • The flask of the device is assembled. From below, a rubber gasket should be installed on it and screw the cover. It is put on the outlet of the sink union nut and conical gasket. The upper part of the siphon is mounted on it, after which the union nut of the outlet is screwed to it. Such a connection is reliable and tight. It is often used in non-pressurized systems. An outlet pipe is connected to the flask.
  • The sewer pipe should be dried and a cuff lubricated with sealant should be installed in it.
  • The drain end of the outlet pipe is adjusted to size, then inserted into the sewer pipe, where it is sealed with a cuff.
  • For some time, water is supplied to the sink to check the tightness of the connections.

Siphon repair

If the drain device starts to leak, there may be several reasons for the malfunction:

  • poor-quality installation - incorrect docking of joints, skewed threads, not fully tightened union nuts, use of unsuitable gaskets;
  • blockage;
  • seal wear - over time, the gaskets harden and shrink, so they begin to let water through;
  • damage - cracks or chips.

For repair, it is necessary to install a container from below to drain the liquid.

  • With unsatisfactory build quality, the product simply needs to be disassembled and assembled correctly.
  • In case of blockage, the lower part of the siphon must be unscrewed, then the sewerage system must be cleaned with a cable or wire.
  • In the place where the drain flows, the rubber seal is replaced with a new one, lubricated with Vaseline or liquid soap. In this case, the joints are treated with sealant.

Tip from a plumber: if you can't buy new gaskets, the old seals should be generously lubricated with sealant or silicone adhesive and reinstalled. You can let water in after the material has solidified. Such a connection will last for several more years.

The full use of the kitchen is impossible without a sink. This is a sanitary device consisting of two elements: a bowl and a siphon, which is directly connected to the sewer system. Properly executed installation of the structure allows you to reliably protect the apartment from unpleasant odors from the pipe, harmful bacteria and microbes, in large quantities located in waste water.

A siphon is a pipe with a bend in which water and other small particles drained into the sewer.

Varieties of models

There are several design options:

  1. Flask-shaped
  2. cranked
  3. Corrugated
  4. Hidden
  5. flat

Flask-shaped models are a prefabricated structure that can be quickly attached, without the use of special tool.

The knee design is one of the simplest among all model options, which allows you to clean the blockage or change any elements in a matter of minutes. The pipe can be bent into a U or S shape, so you can use the space with maximum efficiency.

The corrugated version has a design similar to the pipe counterpart. The difference is in the use of a corrugated hose, which gives it the ability to bend in any direction. But there is one significant drawback, the corrugated tube quickly becomes clogged, as a result of which you have to disassemble and clean it more often. Even a person can connect and remove such a siphon without the use of special tools and plumbing knowledge.

The model is a hidden siphon, mounted in a wall or a structure in the kitchen. It will not be visible from the side, which allows you not to spoil your appearance big picture. It is advisable to use this option in small kitchens.

Mounting the flask model

To fulfill correct connection Each set comes with a diagram, the main thing is to follow some rules

  1. For tight connection of the bottom cover and the upper part of the body, a rubber gasket is installed
  2. The lid closes tightly at the bottom
  3. A union nut is mounted on the pipe that secures the siphon to the sink
  4. To adjust the location of the product in height, a conical washer is installed on the bottom of the nozzle
  5. The branch pipe is connected to the cone and secured with a nut
  6. The outlet pipe is connected to the drain: the nut is pushed onto the pipe, after which the cone gasket advances to the stop.
  7. The final stage assembling the connection of the hose connection and the body with a nut

The next step is to connect to the sink, which is also quite simple.

  • It is necessary to make sure that the dimensions of the siphon fit the sewer pipe. To create a tight connection, a rubber gasket is required.
  • A protective mesh is installed on the drain hole in the sink
  • A siphon is attached to the sink with a screw. obligatory installation rubber seal
  • The last step is to install the outlet hose

After completion of the work, it is necessary to carry out tests to make sure that the design is working and that there are no leaks. To do this, just turn on the water and make sure that all the elements are connected tightly. By pulling elements established design the leak is eliminated. Sometimes water runs through in connection with the sink, so it is necessary to correct the seal, which is installed with a deviation.

Installation of a structure with overflow

In addition to the installation steps for the normal model, some additional steps need to be taken. The outlet is connected to the bottom of the overflow pipe. This should be done only when connecting the sink to the siphon. After that upper part pipes are attached to the overflow hole of the sink. The work is simple and not laborious, but in the case correct installation a sink filled with water will enter the sewer through the drain.

So that after the completion of the work there are no unnecessary problems, it is necessary to do right choice, respecting simple rules how to assemble a siphon for a sink in the kitchen

  1. Smooth-walled models are the easiest to clean.
  2. To prevent the ingress of an unpleasant odor during installation, it is better to plug the sewer pipe with a rag or put a plug.
  3. Before installing the rubber seal and screwing the siphon to the sink, it is necessary to degrease the area around the drain.
  4. For reliable protection rubber seals additionally seal against leaks. The rest of the joints are subjected to the same procedure. Only the bottom cover of the siphon does not require this, because it will have to be unscrewed for cleaning.
  5. To prevent leaks at the bottom of the lid, tow can be used as a sealant.
  6. Perfect option if the siphon hole exactly matches the diameter of the sewer pipe hole.
  7. It is not necessary to purchase a siphon at the same time as washing. This can be done as needed, the main thing is their combination in size and design.

It is not enough just to buy a siphon for a kitchen sink. It is important to install it correctly and for this you need to carefully study the instructions and strictly follow its recommendations. Often, inexpensive siphons are installed faster and easier than their more expensive, more complex counterparts.

The kitchen sink is the most important and obligatory element kitchen sanitary ware. It consists of several parts, which, when connected together, provide the functionality of the sink. One of the components through which water is drained is a siphon for kitchen sinks. Regardless of your appearance and size, this plumbing element is designed to perform its main function - to protect the kitchen from unpleasant odors emanating from sewer pipes. In other words, we have a typical water seal in which a curved tube is constantly filled with water. In addition, the drain for the kitchen sink prevents clogging of the sewer with solid particles that settle at the bottom of the siphon.

The materials for the manufacture of the kitchen drain device are polyethylene and polypropylene. It is from them that the vast majority of products are made. These materials have the following advantages over bronze or brass siphons:

  • less weight, due to which the sink made of thin-walled metal is not loaded;
  • fat and other types of deposits on plastic accumulate less;
  • corrosion and decay from excess moisture completely absent;
  • long service life of plastic siphons;
  • the cost of such a device is quite democratic.

The siphon has a branch pipe to which a corrugated or rigid drain is connected. It is better to choose a sink siphon with a large drain hole. A diameter of 40 mm will be sufficient. In contrast, the 32mm standard clogs faster, resulting in more frequent cleaning.

Important: In order to be able to connect hoses from a dishwasher or washing machine to the drain, it is recommended to choose a device that has additional outlets.

In addition to the siphon in the kitchen, you may also need it. In what situations it is necessary to buy it, you will learn from our other article.

And about how to do it yourself, there is also information on our website.

When choosing, it is also desirable to prefer a drain for a kitchen sink. with overflow. This will protect you from overflowing the sink and flooding the kitchen. If the drain hole of the sink is clogged, then the water coming from the tap will simply go into the overflow hole, and from there into the sewer.

Pictured is a siphon for kitchen sink with overflow

If the kitchen uses a sink that has two drain holes, then install. Its feature is the presence of another adapter with a grate, as well as an additional pipe that combines both drain holes.

Main varieties

According to their design, all siphons used for kitchen sinks can be divided into several types:

Elements

Different types of siphons have different design, therefore, we will consider in detail the device of a bottle-type siphon, the most popular for installation under kitchen sinks.

Structurally, such a device consists of the following elements:

  • body, usually collapsible;
  • outlet pipe with embossed rings, connected to the sink from below;
  • protective mesh with a cell diameter of not more than 1 cm;
  • a connecting screw connecting the grid and the pipe;
  • corrugated or rigid tube for draining water into the sewer;
  • conical gaskets designed to ensure tight contact between the nozzles and the siphon body;
  • wide rubber gasket for attaching the outlet pipe to the sink;
  • rubber gasket designed to seal the protective grille;
  • plastic union nuts. They attach the pipes to the body of the device.

Siphon assembly for kitchen sinks

We will analyze the assembly of a kitchen drain using the example of its bottle type. The siphon for the kitchen sink is assembled in the following sequence:

  • On the top of the siphon body, at the location external thread, a thin pad is put on large diameter. It will ensure the tightness of the fit of the removable bottom cover to the body;
  • The bottom cover, which has an internal thread, is tightly screwed;
  • A union nut is put on the pipe, which will be attached to the sink;
  • From the bottom of the nut, a conical washer is put on the pipe with a blunt end. Depending on the level at which the conical washer will be located, the depth of lowering the siphon under the sink is adjusted;
  • The end of the pipe is inserted into the upper hole of the cone, after which the union nut is twisted;
  • A drain hose is attached to the outlet on the body. To do this, a plastic nut is put on the hose nozzle, and then a cone gasket is pushed on with a blunt end. The hose branch pipe is inserted into the hole in the housing and tightened with a nut;

Installing a siphon on a sink

The work of installing siphon equipment is usually not difficult. It can be done independently. The difference is only in the number of connections to one siphon. So, if you have a double sink or there is another additional drain, then a siphon for a kitchen sink with two bowls is installed.

On preparatory stage check whether the siphon will become under the sink in its dimensions. After that, the entrance of the sewer pipe is prepared for docking with the sink drain. If the pipe is cast iron, then a rubber plug with a hole is installed in it. plastic pipes are also connected via an o-ring.

Further installation of the siphon on the sink involves the following actions:

  • A mesh is installed in the sink hole on a special gasket that comes with the kit;
  • From the bottom side, a siphon is attached to the sink through a gasket, the outlet pipe of which is connected to the grid by means of a long metal screw. Using a flat screwdriver or an ordinary coin, the screw is simply screwed into the pipe, in the body of which there is a built-in nut;
  • The outlet siphon hose is connected to the sewer pipe;
  • The device is tested for leaks. To do this, water is allowed into the sink for several tens of seconds. If there is a leak in some place, the corresponding nut is tightened. If water flows between the sink and the protective mesh, then the gasket under the mesh is installed skewed.

Features of installing a siphon with overflow

If a siphon is installed for a kitchen sink with an overflow, then at the stage of assembling the siphon, a few more additional steps are performed. The lower edge of the overflow pipeline is attached to the outlet pipe. Fastening is carried out according to the already familiar pattern, using a conical washer and a union nut. The connection of the overflow pipe is made during the installation of the device on the sink.

The upper edge of the overflow pipe is led to a specially cut hole in the top of the sink, with its outer side. The top edge is fastened with a screw connection on the sink side. The screw is simply screwed into the pipe with a screwdriver. Now, when a certain water level in the sink is exceeded, the water will overflow immediately into the siphon, bypassing the outlet of the sink.

Additional information on how to install a siphon in the kitchen correctly is presented in the video.
