IN time immemorial the fencing of the home performed an exclusively protective function, protecting a person from uninvited guests and ferocious animals. Today, this building element has more extensive functions, and in addition to the main task, fences are able to solve aesthetic issues, being a real design addition to any structure.
That is why today the construction services market is literally teeming with proposals for the installation of enclosing structures made from concrete, metal, wood, and other building materials. But, perhaps, the most durable and high-quality fence is considered to be a brick fence. And since its only drawback is high price, an advisable action is to combine bricks with less expensive products. Therefore, taking into account the above, it is advisable to consider in detail the methodology of how to make a fence from brick and corrugated board with your own hands.
First of all, when constructing a fence from bricks and corrugated sheets, you should decide on the design features of the element and find out exactly where it will be located. For this purpose, the most justified action would be to draw up a preliminary design, with a detailed description of the specified parameters.
Moreover, when drawing up this plan, it is advisable to adhere to the basic recommendations:
In addition, when drawing up a detailed sketch, you should take into account the installation location and design of the entrance gates and gates.
Due to the fact that a fence with brick pillars has an impressive mass, it is very important to timely and correctly mark the future structure. For these purposes, the installation locations of the outer supports are first determined, and then a tapping cord is stretched between these points, which indicates the installation line of the future fence.
And although this may seem strange to many people, making a foundation for a fence with brick columns is one of the most important procedures. This circumstance is due to the fact that structures of this type have a significant impact on the soil cavity and long-term and high-quality operation of such a fence can only be guaranteed if there is a solid foundation.
Before concreting the foundation for the fence, it is necessary to plan (level) the area. Then, in the marking areas, recesses should be prepared that correspond to the dimensions of future structures. Moreover, the depth of the pits in the places where brick columns are installed should reach 1 meter, and at the points where intermediate metal supports are installed, it should be 60 cm. This will prevent deformation of the foundation during periods of temperature fluctuations.
Extra Reliability brick fence can be achieved through the use of a strip-type foundation, which is installed between the support pillars of each span. Therefore, in addition to the recesses for installing supports, it is immediately advisable to dig a trench to fill the intermediate horizontal base. The depth of this trench is usually dug to 30 - 40 cm, and its width is selected depending on the personal preferences of the performer, and varies in the range of 100 - 250 mm.
At the next stage, the formwork should be prepared - wooden fence, into the cavity of which will subsequently be poured concrete composition. In principle, it is advisable to construct formwork only for a strip foundation, and in areas where it is planned to install support pillars, concrete can be poured directly into the existing recess in the ground.
In order to make formwork with your own hands, you should use wooden panels, which are installed above the ground level by at least 100 mm and with the same size are immersed in the trench cavity.
The fastening of the formwork panels is best achieved using perpendicular wooden jumpers, which are first driven into the ground and to which the wooden panels are subsequently fixed using self-tapping screws (a screwdriver is used).
When constructing formwork for a fence with brick columns, it is necessary to ensure that the upper edges of the boards are horizontal, which can be checked using a building level.
At the next stage, a reinforcing frame should be made to give the foundation strength and performance characteristics. For these purposes, a prefabricated structure is made from metal rods with a diameter of 8-12 mm in the following sequence:
In the future, before concreting the foundation with your own hands, the bottom of the recesses should be covered with a layer of crushed stone and sand (each 10 cm), which are moistened and compacted well.
The technology of concreting the base itself boils down to the fact that building mixture is poured into the formwork cavity, into which support pillars are pre-installed, leveled and fixed:
When the composition acquires a homogeneous structure, the concrete mixer is turned off and concrete is poured. If required, you can make a concrete mixer yourself (you can get acquainted with the technology at the address).
When performing this process, you should ensure that the material fits into the formwork cavity as tightly as possible (for which the bayonet method is used), and when the entire free cavity is filled, the concrete is leveled and the structure is covered with plastic film for high-quality maturation.
Subsequent work should begin no earlier than 20 days later, and the best option To strengthen the foundation, the concrete will be wetted daily with water.
To make it possible to fix the corrugated sheets, jumpers are mounted between the support posts. For these purposes it is used square pipe 40x20x2mm, which is cut to a given size, and the resulting elements are welded to vertical posts (an inverter can be used welding machine). Moreover, at least two jumpers must be installed between adjacent columns, which are located at a distance of 20 - 25 cm from the upper and lower support points. After completing the welding work, it is recommended to open the entire frame with paint and varnish.
On at this stage It’s better to trust a professional, since without experience in stone work, making a fence post will be very problematic. The best materials to use for the manufacture of such supports are: decorative brick Bassoon, with straight or beveled corners. Moreover, during the manufacture of columns, a cement-sand mortar should be used (in a ratio of 1 to 3), and each new row should be tied with a metal mesh. In addition, the free cavities of the brick column should be filled with mortar, and the top of the element should be provided with a concrete or metal covering (cap).
The final stage of fencing manufacturing is the fastening of the corrugated sheet. However, before installing the corrugated sheeting, marks are made on the material indicating the locations of the screws, and the surface of the strip foundation is covered with cardboard or rags, which prevent damage to the material during installation.
Next, the sheets are set in a given position, and they are fastened to the frame elements, for which galvanized self-tapping screws with a 4.8x30mm rubberized head are used. To screw in the fasteners, you should use a drill or screwdriver, and fasteners should only be made to the lower corrugation of the corrugated sheet through the wave. All remaining materials are fixed in a similar way, with the sheets overlapped.
In order for a self-made fence with brick posts to have improved performance characteristics, certain recommendations should be followed during its manufacture:

A beautiful fence and gate is the face of a home and an “outpost” of protection and peaceful life owners, which is not visible to outsiders. A strong and reliable fence, which also fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape, is best result construction work. Today, thanks to technology proven over the years and modern materials, this problem can be successfully solved with your own hands, without resorting to the help of specialists.
There is a huge variety of fences and fences made from different combinations of textures: monumental stone, light forged, environmentally friendly wooden. Currently, the practical and durable combination of brick pillars and corrugated panels is deservedly very popular.
Advantages:
It is important to choose the right design option, draw up a project, a drawing of the location on the ground and a plan for all stages of work, an estimate.
There are building regulations that need to be taken into account:
It is necessary to measure the length of the fence, divide it into sections, calculate the number of posts and the universal distance between them. The height of the fence can be any up to 3 meters.
Options for design solutions:
Today's variety of textures and colors of corrugated sheets can satisfy the most demanding client or designer. Smooth or textured surface, with imitation of brick and stone, wood of various species, natural materials, with various patterns, ornaments. You can choose a canvas with a photo print and apply any image, including 3D. The palette of colors and visual effects is also amazing. There are paints and coatings that are luminous, with thermal indication, and electrically insulating.
Brick also has a variety of shapes, surface textures and colors. Classic facing red smooth brick looks strict and suits most houses. A combination of several shades of brown or beige will give more modern look. Figured and embossed bricks give room for imagination and look elegant and unusual.
The pillars can be laid out not straight, but twisted; of course, this is a task for experienced masons, but the result looks impressive.
The foundation is decorated with brick and metal in the same color as the other elements; the caps must also match the color of the entire structure. You can also tint the seams between the bricks, for example, add soot to the solution and get decorative black seams.
Monolith technology allows you to make complex configurations of the foundation and the basement of the fence: concrete podiums, ledges and niches for ornamental plants and lighting elements. Additional lighting can also be built into poles. Fences decorated with forged elements, lace strips with pointed tops welded along the upper border of the panel, look excellent.
The project is ready, construction can begin.
To do this you will need the following materials and tools:
You need to drive stakes into the corners of the fence and stretch a nylon rope around the perimeter for marking. On the fence line, it is necessary to level the surface, mark the locations of future posts and also drive in pegs, mark the locations of gates and gates. Then you need to dig a trench under the strip foundation.
The depth of the trench is considered to be the freezing point of the soil. It will be different in the regions, on average 60-80 cm. Under places with corrugated sheeting, the depth can be reduced to 50 cm. The width of the trench is determined by the thickness of the pillars, 20-25 cm is quite enough.
The volume of excavated soil will be approximately 3 m3. It is advisable to separate fertile layer from clay, so that later it can be poured into the garden, increasing the thickness of the fertilized soil. At the bottom of the trench we compact a 5-centimeter layer of sand moistened with water, then 10 cm of crushed stone.
The second stage of arranging the foundation is assembling the formwork. Usually the formwork is made 10-15 cm below the surface. The formwork is knocked down directly into the trench from the boards, reinforced with lintels and supports to prevent deformation of the formwork under the influence of the pressure of hardening concrete.
The foundation must be reinforced with steel rods 10 mm thick. To ensure that the reinforcement is completely immersed in the thickness concrete mortar, vertical rods must be installed every 1.5 m. The horizontal ones are attached with wire or welding to the vertical ones every 10 cm in height and no more than 5 cm from the surface of the foundation, so that the reinforcement does not stick out and does not rust. Typically, the reinforcement is first fastened, and then the finished material is lowered into the trench.
Next, you can install strictly vertically reinforcing pipes or a corner for brick pillars and secure them with boards inside the trench. The shape of the foundation is not strictly rectangular, but widening downward. Then the fence will be able to withstand the loads of soil heaving without deforming.
The solution is mixed in a ratio of cement and fine sand 1: 4 or 1: 5, screenings or crushed stone are added, and then water is added until a thick mass is obtained. For best quality It is advisable to add 25-30 g of plasticizer to the solution; most often this is the most inexpensive liquid soap or dishwashing detergent. The bottom of the trench is moistened with water, then the mixed solution is poured into the formwork. To gain strength and properly dry the foundation, it is moistened every day with water and covered with plastic film to prevent cracking.
Complete drying occurs after 2 weeks, but the layer gains half its strength after 5 days.
Waterproofing is laid on the finished foundation, most often waterproofing or roofing felt, so that the brick does not absorb moisture from the soil and does not deteriorate longer. The next stage of construction is laying bricks around the reinforcement pipes; the result of the work will be reliable and even pillars. The masonry is made with a bandage for reliability of one and a half or two bricks. The standard seam is 8-10 mm.
Every second row is additionally reinforced with steel mesh. At the levels of fastening the corrugated sheet to vertical pipes Mortgages are welded for subsequent installation of the frame and corrugated sheet. At the top point, in the middle and at the bottom of the pillar.
Special caps made of concrete or metal are mounted on top of the laid out pillars. They are painted in various colors with mineral dyes that are resistant to fading and can have a decorative finish.
The caps perform a protective function, preventing moisture from entering the thickness of the pillars, and also give a complete and decorative look fencing.
To mount a frame for fastening panels made of corrugated sheets, you need to weld the embedded fasteners at the stage of laying the columns, which will stick out on the sides of the column: at the top, in the middle and at the bottom, then it will be possible to fasten the frame from the profile pipe at these three points.
The pipe must be marked and cut into pieces, the length of which is equal to the length of the span between the pillars, set strictly horizontally using a level, and arc weld the ends to the embedded fasteners. The result is three guide pipes, which must be coated with alkyd enamel to prevent corrosion.
If the pipes are already rusty, treatment with a liquid converter is necessary.
In different areas, fences receive the most colorful names. They are called front gardens, fences, tyn, fence or just a wall. Fences are made from the most common natural materials, characteristic of a given area or artificial, among which fences made of corrugated sheets with brick pillars confidently occupy their niche. They look organic on any suburban area, allow you to create a durable fence inaccessible to animals and humans, plus, combined fence made of brick and corrugated board perfectly resists any weather conditions.
A fence made of brick and corrugated board allows you to create original combined structures
Corrugated sheeting allows you to create continuous fences that protect the territory from prying eyes. Brick helps strengthen the structure and additionally performs a decorative function. In addition, a fence made of brick and corrugated board has many benefits:
durability designs;
the possibility of creating organic fences even on complex multi-level areas;
ease care;
excellent sustainability to changes in air temperature;
Beautiful appearance;
ease of replacement individual elements during deformation.
Like any other construction, the construction of a strong and stable fence made of corrugated board with brick pillars on a suburban area begins with drawing up detailed plan, calculation necessary materials and costs. The project plan includes the design features of the fence, its exact location on the ground and the materials used.
During construction metal fence for the dacha apply:
galvanized corrugated sheeting;
corrugated sheet with one side polymer coating;
With bilateral coating.
The design of a fence made of corrugated sheets on a slope
When building heavy brick fences from corrugated sheets, adhere to generally accepted standards:
At large elevation changes Stepped design is used on the site.
When installing supports and foundation strictly maintain horizontal and vertical levels.
Distance between pillars depends on the height of the fence and is about 3 meters. The higher the height of the fence, the more often support pillars are installed.
To form corner pillars and gate posts, it is better to use thicker and more durable materials.
When building fences from corrugated sheets with brick pillars, they are most often designed combined foundation, set below the freezing point of the soil. It ensures immobility, structural strength and a long period of operation of the fence.
Choose the right one technical specifications corrugated sheeting, taking into account the terrain, the desired height and width of spans, can be done using a specialized load table.
On our website you can find contacts construction companies who offer the service of building fences and fences. You can communicate directly with representatives by visiting the “Low-Rise Country” exhibition of houses.
Choose corrugated sheeting for the fence thick not less than 0.6 mm. For areas with strong winds, you should give preference to thicker materials. The wave depth is no more than 21 mm. Most often, when constructing fences from corrugated sheets with brick pillars, grades C8-NS35 corrugated sheets with a polymer or galvanized coating are used.
Number of cross metal joists from a profiled pipe depends on the height of the structure. For fences up to 2 meters high, installing two logs will be sufficient.
Installation corrugated sheeting is made using steel rivets or galvanized self-tapping screws.
To prevent corrosion of the material, welding area coated with protective anti-corrosion agents.
When building a fence made of corrugated sheets with brick columns, the foundation is mandatory element. It provides stability, reliability and prevents premature deformation of the structure.
Installation of a fence made of corrugated board with brick supports in a slice
The difference in the cost of one or another foundation can be very noticeable, so before starting construction it is worth making a full calculation of all types of foundation and choosing the most suitable option taking into account the characteristics of the terrain and soil. A brick fence with corrugated sheeting is a rather heavy structure, so in order not to have to carry out complex work in the future renovation work, when choosing a foundation, it is necessary to take into account the depth of soil freezing.
For fences made of corrugated sheets with brick pillars, strip, columnar and combined foundations are most often used.
Installing a durable fence made of corrugated board is not the easiest thing, so if you lack experience, it is better to entrust the construction to professionals. This will allow you to create a beautiful, durable fencing of the territory and avoid additional costs for repair work in the first years of operation.
The construction of the fence involves the formation of brick pillars and reliable fastening of the corrugated sheet. In this case, the following technological stages of work:
Territory marking consists of installing restrictive pegs at the same distance along the entire perimeter of the land plot. A strong cord or rope is pulled between them, marking the outer boundaries of the fence.
For calculating the number of supports it is necessary to divide the length of the fence by the width of one span and add the support pillars required for the design of the wicket and gate. The size of the support pillars is chosen taking into account their deepening into the ground by a third of the entire length. To install support pillars, holes are formed below the freezing point of the soil. This will prevent foundation deformation and structural elements fence as a result of spring melting of snow. On rocky soils, the freezing depth can be ignored. A sand cushion 10 cm high is formed at the bottom of the pits.
Between support pillars dig a trench for strip foundation. Standard width the foundation is about 30 cm, the height above ground level is 15 cm. Depending on the geodesy of the area and soil characteristics, these indicators are adjusted in one direction or another.
Installation of a sand cushion for the foundation
At the bottom of the trench a dense sand cushion from a mixture of sand and gravel about 10 cm thick, thoroughly compacting it.
Formwork assembled from edged boards or OSB boards. The frame for the formwork is made of transverse beams.
Reinforcing frame assembled from metal rods with a cross-section of about 10 mm. Vertical posts are installed at a distance of 40 cm from each other and fastened with transverse rods using soft wire.
Installation of support pillars performed taking into account vertical levels. Filling is carried out with a concrete solution using Portland cement of a grade not lower than M400.
For cooking concrete mortar You will need crushed stone, cement and sand in proportions 5:1:3. If the length of the fence is not very long, then get quality solution homogeneous consistency, providing the necessary structural strength, can also be done using a concrete mixer. If the fence is planned to be long, then it is easier to order ready-made concrete at the factory.
After pouring the entire foundation it cover with film and periodically moisten the surface with water. In this form, the foundation for the fence made of corrugated board stands until completely dry. After this, you can begin lining the foundation with brick or stone.
Brick posts for corrugated fence
For formation of brick columns use moisture-repellent bricks High Quality. A protective cap made of cement or metal is installed on top of each support column.
Since corrugated sheeting is a universal material, it is equally can be used both for a fence and for assembling gates, which are most often made swinging or sliding.
The most common gates for corrugated fences are swing structures. Design swing gates involves hanging the canvas on support pillars using loops. Optimal width swing gates are 4.5 - 5 meters. The width of the sash is best calculated based on the width of the corrugated board. Maximum height swing gates are 2.5 meters.
To ensure normal functioning of the gate, it is necessary to take into account the climate and provide a gap under the gate of up to 30 cm. To decorate the gap and prevent entry into the territory suburban area small animals and poultry use a removable bar. However, in winter period It is better to avoid using it.
Decorative forging installed on gates made of corrugated sheets will decorate the structure and increase the height of the gate if necessary.
Swing gates for corrugated fence
Swing gates require the use one of the designs:
Gates with one leaf Great for forming small techniques. Big size sash significantly increases the load on the hinges and often leads to distortion of the structure.
Gates with two doors tolerated more steadfastly strong winds. However, the cost of bi-fold gates is slightly higher due to the addition of the cost of hinges, fasteners and frame elements.
Often, when constructing corrugated fences in summer cottages, automatic sliding gates. Automatic gates are created by individual project or sold as ready-made kit, which just needs to be collected into single design. It is better to entrust the installation to professionals, especially since for some kits this required condition to issue a guarantee.
How to assemble automatic sliding gates, see the following video:
The optimal width of a gate for a gate made of corrugated sheets is 1–1.2 meters; the height depends on the design of the metal fence and personal preferences. To install the gate you will need:
corrugated sheeting;
steel profile with a section of 20x20 for the manufacture of the frame;
locking devices.
Installation of the entrance gate for the gate is carried out by adhering to the following stages of work:
Manufacture durable frame using profiled pipes.
Fasten awnings to the frame and support posts.
Install constipations and locks.
Suspended frame to the support pillars.
Process everything welds protective anti-corrosion agents.
Fixed corrugated sheet on the frame.
Check free lock operation and constipation.
If necessary, forged ones are installed on the gate decorative elements.
You can watch the step-by-step process of making a gate from a profile pipe in the following video:
A brick fence is the most solid and high-quality structure, the only drawback of which is its high cost.
To reduce the cost of the project, it is advisable to combine bricks with inexpensive, but no less durable materials.
Let's look at the construction of a fence made of brick and corrugated sheets with our own hands in detail and in stages.
Before you make a fence from brick and corrugated board, you need to draw up a project with a description design features and the location of the fence.
When drawing up a plan, you should adhere to the following recommendations:
Profiled sheets of polyvinyl chloride create a durable fence that is not subject to corrosion and wear.
Painted modern paint and varnish materials brick-like corrugated board does not lose color for a long time, which can be matched to the building.
Construction of corrugated fences with brick pillars happens in stages:

The construction of a fence made of corrugated sheets with brick columns begins with marking the exact location of the elements.
At the future corners of the fence, you need to place pegs and stretch a nylon thread along them.
The narrowest fence made from corrugated sheets with brick columns is built one brick thick, and is installed for reinforcement profile pipe.
Every second row brickwork reinforced with steel mesh.
A fence made of brick and corrugated sheets is installed on a strip foundation.
To save on transport, upper layer soil can be poured and used as fertilizer on the site.
The volume of soil will be only about three cubic meters, so an expensive excavator will not be needed to carry out excavation work. Handmade are carried out with shovels and bayonet shovels; a crowbar is also useful.
If the soil is not rocky, a trench with a volume of about 4 cubic meters will be dug by two workers in 5 hours, taking into account smoke breaks.
When the trench for a brick fence with corrugated sheets has already been dug, you can immediately begin formwork. It is assembled only for the base part and is installed 10-20 cm below ground level. A durable and inexpensive semi-edged board is suitable.
Assembly of the formwork begins before pouring the foundation with additional fastening of the boards with wooden lintels and brick supports. The shields are assembled directly in the trench, starting from the top board.
For further reinforcement of the foundation, 10 mm reinforcing rods are needed, which are installed in the trench every 1.5 meters.
The assembled frame, fastened with 1 mm thick wire, is lowered into the formwork.
To strengthen the brick pillars, a corner or pipes are installed into the formwork when the rod frame and formwork are completely ready. They are leveled and secured with boards.
The thickness of the foundation may vary: under the pillars the width can be as planned, but under the corrugated sheet it can narrow. This way you can reduce the amount of excavation work and save concrete. True, then it is much more difficult to assemble the formwork.
The optimal foundation depth for fence posts is the depth of soil freezing, that is, about a meter.
Under corrugated sheets, where the fence will experience less load, the depth of the foundation is reduced to half a meter.
Depending on the terrain, the foundation for the fence is poured differently. It is considered the most difficult.
To build a fence you will need to use a concrete mixer:
After pouring, the concrete is covered with polyethylene so that the surface dries evenly with the base. In warm weather, complete stripping is carried out after 7 - 10 days.
The brick is laid with cement-sand mortar in a ratio of 1 to 3, and a little liquid soap is added to make it plastic.
Type of brickwork
Every day they lay no more than 0.5 meters in height, simultaneously filling the gap between the metal column and the brick.
For strength, each row is reinforced with a special mesh.
When erecting a fence made of brick and corrugated sheets with your own hands, you need to remember that the distance between the brick supports should not exceed 3 meters.
The height of the fence depends on the design of the site, wind load and the height of the profiled sheets.
When securing the fence, brick pillars and corrugated sheets, use embedded plates and corners in the center, top and bottom of each post.
As an alternative, you can do . This design will be much more reliable and will last longer.
For reliable fastening of a 3-meter sheet, 3 lags are enough.
More detailed instructions and a description of all types of foundations for corrugated board fences you will find.
Galvanized steel covers are installed on top of a fence made of corrugated sheets with brick pillars, which will give the pillars a finished look and protect them from water. They are attached from below with dowels to the brick.
When choosing concrete covers, pay attention to painted ones. mineral pigment.
This paint does not wash off, and the color does not fade over time. They are laid on columns with cement-sand mortar.
After 2 days of settling the concrete in the formwork, a frame is assembled from a profile pipe, to which the corrugated sheet will be attached.
The pipe is cut into pieces of the required length, on which marks are placed at the places where the horizontal pipes are attached. Correct position pipes are checked using a level.
The frame is assembled by 2 workers. After welding, the frame is painted with alkyd enamel.
A 15-meter brick fence with corrugated sheeting can be erected in about 2 weeks. Beautiful fence It is quite possible to install bricks and corrugated sheets with your own hands, and hire a specialist only to install brick pillars and construct the frame.
Now you know how to build a fence from brick and corrugated board. Such a fence is not as affordable as a fence made from one corrugated sheet, but the installation of fences made of corrugated sheets with brick pillars is done for beautiful design with a combination of reliability and long service life.
Is it possible to build a strong and powerful fence from corrugated sheets, while maintaining low cost and speed of production?
Our answer is that it is possible if you make a fence with brick posts, combining the advantages of an expensive brick fence with budget option on a steel frame. Using the example below, you will learn how to make a base for a fence from facing bricks and fill its openings with inexpensive, high-quality corrugated sheeting. Such a fence will be strong, but light, cheap, but quite solid and beautiful.
The first step in building a fence is drawing up its design and choosing a design. You need to decide where the corrugated fence will go, decide on its thickness and choose the level of the foundation. To begin drawing up the project, you need to install pegs at the points where the corners of the fence are located and stretch a nylon thread along them. Now you need to take measurements of the sides using a construction tape and draw up a design plan for the fence.
Drawing from the fence project. 1 – brick pillars. 2. Foundation (reinforced concrete). 3. Profile pipes. 4. Steel pipes.
In the example under consideration, the corrugated fence will be narrow enough to save some space next to the driveway. To do this, select the appropriate design of brick pillars (see figure). They have a front side width of one and a half bricks, and a side width of one brick, or 25 cm. To strengthen the load-bearing pillars (a), a profiled pipe 40x40x2 mm is laid in them. The construction of such columns is carried out with reinforcement and ligation of even rows of masonry with galvanized mesh with a section of 25x25x1 mm. The posts intended for fastening gates and wickets (b) are additionally reinforced with steel pipes 88x2.8 mm. In this example, bricks with one and two beveled corners are used.
A reinforced concrete foundation will be the best foundation for brick pillars. Fence made of corrugated sheets with monolithic strip foundation will look solid, and the foundation itself will reliably protect the site from street animals and rainwater flows. The width of the foundation in our example is equal to the width of the brick pillars.
If there is a large difference in heights on the site, it is better to break the foundation with steps
In our example, the site had large differences in height (more than 0.5 m per 10 m of length). When constructing a single-level foundation strip, we would be faced with a serious overuse of concrete. In addition, when installing the gate, the foundation level may be quite high, i.e. There will be a gap between the ground and the gate. To avoid these difficulties, the foundation is divided into several sections with different levels. The height of the foundation above ground level does not fall below 10 cm, so that during rain, dirt does not accumulate on the upper plane of the foundation.
You can make a foundation strip with the same thickness (in the picture on the left) or with different thickness - full under the posts and narrow under the corrugated sheet (in the picture on the right). Foundations with different thicknesses make it possible to reduce excavation work and reduce concrete consumption, but in this case it is more difficult to assemble the formwork. Since in our case the thickness of the tape is small (25 cm), we chose the option with a foundation of the same thickness.
The foundation strip can be of different thicknesses - this allows you to save on earthworks and concreting
In the example given, the foundation under brick pillars was laid to a depth of soil freezing - 1 m. This made it possible to guarantee the stability and immobility of the foundation, therefore, the reliable functioning of the gates attached to the steel pipes in the pillars. In less critical places (under the steel posts to which the corrugated sheeting is attached), the depth of the foundation was 0.5 m. This made it possible to save on work and concrete.
Since the depth of the foundation sections for the corrugated fence was different, they were not combined into a single structure.
First of all, this is due to the fact that the buoyant forces of the soil will affect the foundation located at different depths differently. If such sections are connected into a single structure, the less buried sections of the foundation will take a greater load and simply deform the remaining sections, destroying the structure. Such deformations are especially dangerous for the part of the tape on which the gate posts are located, as this will lead to disruption of their functioning.
This is how foundation strips lying at different levels are separated
To effectively counteract soil heaving, the force of which tends to push the foundation out of the ground, it is made to expand towards the bottom.
During excavation work, a problem may arise with the removal of open soil, because when excavated it turns out to be more than the expected volume, since loosened soil takes up about 1.5 times more space than compacted soil. It is not always possible to place land near or inside the site, and it has to be removed. For export, 40-50 kg of it are poured into polypropylene bags, while per 1 cubic meter. m. about 30 bags are required.
In order to save on soil removal, its top layer was poured separately. Later it will be useful on the farm or neighbors may take it.
The volume of selected soil was about 3 cubic meters. m., therefore, given the small space for maneuvers, digging trenches with an excavator was impractical. Approximate prices earthworks we show in Table 1
Method of excavation work | Price |
Excavator with a productivity of 20 cubic meters/hour | 700 rub/hour, plus delivery one hour ( minimum order five hours) |
Manually on ground without stones | 500 rub/cu. m. |
Manually on the ground without stones, packaged in bags | 620 rub/cu.m. m. |
Manually, rocky ground above | from 750 rub/cu.m. m. |
For dense soils, shovels with an angular bayonet are not used
To perform earthwork manually you needed:
It should be remembered that you should use a straight bayonet shovel, since if the bayonet is at an angle, it is much more difficult to dig with it. Two workers coped with digging a trench of 4 km. m. in five hours with several breaks. The ground was without stones.
Once the trenches have been dug, you can begin arranging the formwork. It is assembled to the height of the foundation base and 20 cm below the ground surface. For formwork installation, a regular semi-edged board is usually used.
The formwork is assembled using wood screws, having previously drilled holes with an electric drill. Since the concrete will exert significant pressure, the boards should be additionally secured with brick supports and wooden lintels. It should be borne in mind that it will no longer be possible to straighten the boards after pouring the foundation with concrete. In addition, the panels should be assembled in a trench, and they are assembled from the top board installed along the thread marking the upper level of the foundation.
In order for the fence made of corrugated sheets to be strong, the foundation under it is strengthened with reinforcement rods (10 mm). Vertical rods are installed at a distance of 1.5 m from each other, and for horizontal reinforcement, four rods are installed: two 10 cm from the base of the foundation and two 5 cm from the top surface of the fill. To protect the reinforcement from corrosion, it must be located in concrete at a depth of at least 3 cm.
It is convenient to assemble the reinforcement cage on the ground, and already in assembled form place it in the formwork. The reinforcement is assembled using tying wire with a diameter of 1 mm. The connections of the longitudinal reinforcement bars are made with an overlap (about 20 cm).
Before concreting the foundation, the pillars should be reinforced with corners
After assembling the reinforcement frame and formwork, pipes or corners are inserted into the latter to strengthen the brick pillars (see figure). They are leveled and secured with boards. This is a simple operation and can be easily done by one person.
To save money, you don’t have to build a foundation in those areas where the corrugated sheeting will be attached to steel pipes, i.e. no brick pillars. In this case, the pipes are concreted into holes about 60 cm deep and 50x50 cm in size. Before pouring concrete, the pipes are leveled and secured with wire to spacers so that distortions do not occur during concreting.
It is better to mix concrete with a concrete mixer. To avoid carrying it to the pouring site, the concrete mixer should be placed in front of the formwork. Here is an approximate sequence of work when mixing concrete:
It is advisable to load the concrete mixer at half the volume, since a large load lengthens the time quality training concrete.
The concrete mixer must be placed next to the formwork, the productivity of concrete work increases
Composition of the concrete we used for the foundation (in volume fractions):
To produce more frost-resistant concrete, as well as for more convenient installation, we used a plasticizing additive - liquid household soap (10 ml for each bucket of cement).
If you don't have a concrete mixer, you can prepare the concrete by hand. This is done like this:
It will take about 30 minutes to mix 100 liters of concrete. Concrete mixed in this way is approximately 20% less strong than that obtained in a concrete mixer due to more water (if you pour less water, it will be very difficult to knead manually). However, for concreting our foundation for a fence made of corrugated sheets, this quality of concrete is sufficient.
After pouring, exposed concrete should be covered with plastic film to prevent the surface from drying out too quickly. At warm weather(about 25 degrees) stripping should be done after a week.
Before welding the fence frame, the profile pipes are installed according to the level
If the concrete has stood in the formwork for two days, you can begin assembling the frame. Assembly is done using arc welding from profile pipes 20x40x2 mm.
The frame on which the corrugated fence is mounted is easier to assemble with two people. For welding, a welding inverter with a maximum power of 6.2 kW is used. If a circuit breaker trips during welding (usually switches larger than 15 A are not installed in a private house), you should install a switch designed for higher power during welding work.
On a section of the fence about 15 m long, welding work lasted about two hours.
After welding, the steel frame must be painted, for example, with alkyd enamel. If the metal is not yet covered with a thick layer of rust, you do not need to use rust converters before painting.
In the construction of columns it is used facing brick. You can hire an experienced bricklayer for the work.
Brick laying is done using a cement-sand mortar (1 to 3) with the addition of liquid soap. During the working day, the master erects columns to a height of 0.5 (one at a time). During the laying process, the gap between the bricks and the steel column is filled with mortar. Additional reinforcement is given to the masonry by reinforcement with steel mesh 50x50x4 mm.
The last stage of decoration is installing covers on fence posts. After this, the columns will acquire additional expressiveness, and their ends will be reliably protected from moisture.
The most popular types of covers for decorative design of columns
After installing the covers, the corrugated fence looks much more solid. The materials for the manufacture of decorative covers are painted or galvanized steel, as well as concrete. Metal covers last as long as corrugated sheets, and the durability of concrete ones greatly depends on the quality source material. High-quality concrete covers can last more than 15 years.
Of the colored lids, the best ones are those painted with mineral pigment. Over time, it will not wash off and the paint colors will not fade.
Concrete covers are installed using cement-sand mortar, and steel covers are installed using dowels.
After the construction of the columns, corrugated sheeting can be installed. Installation requires two workers. To avoid scratching the lower end of the corrugated sheeting, cardboard is laid on the concrete of the foundation. Before installation, mark the screws using a black marker on the corrugated sheet.
The corrugated sheeting is attached to a profile pipe 20x40x23 mm using an electric drill and galvanized roofing screws 4.8x30 mm with the obligatory rubber gaskets. Sheets of corrugated sheets are attached with an overlap.
Fastening is done through one wave on the lower section of the corrugation. Thus, to install 1 m of corrugated sheeting you need six self-tapping screws. When tightening, it is better to set the drill at low speeds, since at high speeds the cutting edge of the screw will get very hot and grind down.
The construction of such a fence by two builders takes about two weeks (without downtime). The cost of a 9-meter fence with six brick pillars was 36 thousand rubles, that is, 4 thousand rubles per linear meter. Detailed costs for the construction of a fence made of corrugated sheets are given in Table 2.
