How to adjust interior doors if they do not close well. Adjusting plastic doors. Adjusting hidden hinges on metal-plastic doors

When arranging a room, you should not only think about the proper furnishings and stylish decoration, but also choose comfortable furniture. When choosing furniture elements, especially cabinets, it is worth Special attention pay attention to the door hinges. It is important that the structures can be opened and closed with ease. When assembling cabinets, you should carefully inspect all the component elements, and it is better to independently adjust the hinges to the required level. A process such as adjusting hinges on cabinet doors is not at all complicated; the main thing is that you need to carefully study all its features.

Adjusting any type of wardrobe - wardrobe, kitchen, hallway, bathroom - ensures convenient use of this furniture. Typically required when purchasing new furniture or when moving old furniture items to a new location. This may also be necessary if the cabinet doors have become old or become loose.

To tighten the hinges, you do not need to have special skills or extensive experience. You can do everything yourself, quickly and without much difficulty. The main thing is to have a shaped screwdriver on hand.

Door adjustment is usually done in several ways. There are three options in total:

  • vertical;
  • performing door height adjustment;
  • along the plane.

But to understand how to adjust correctly, it is worth carefully considering the features of each type.

Vertical

Vertical adjustment is the process with which the adjustment of furniture fittings usually begins. Adjusting hinges using this method is required when the door is located in an incorrect, crooked position, stands out from the general appearance of the furniture structure, or if there are two doors, and one is higher than the other.

So how to adjust the doors vertically. This adjustment option is made in 4 steps:

  • First, open the door leaf. We find the hinges; if there are plugs, they need to be removed;
  • on the areas of the two hinges, tighten the bolts that are located near the edge of the sidewall. These fasteners provide vertical arrangement front part. At the very beginning, the two bolts need to be placed at the same level, this will help to adjust them correctly;
  • then the door to the front part of the cabinet closes. Carefully inspect the entire structure in space, this will help identify irregularities. If there is a level of inclination of the upper corner to the right area, then on the upper hinge you need to tighten the adjustment bolt tightly, but on the lower hinge you should loosen it;
  • Be sure to carefully check steps numbered 2 and 3. This must be done until the front part is in the normal position.

Once the vertical adjustment has been completed, you can proceed to the next stage - adjusting the door height. This process must be done correctly; first you need to study all its features.

Adjusting the vertical clearance

Door height adjustment

The height adjustment of the doors is ensured by two screws, which are mounted on two elongated lugs. It is through these ears that the loop is pulled. So how do you adjust the doors using this option? The whole process is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • on the installed hinges, the screws with the adjusting structure are loosened;
  • if necessary, raise or lower the façade of the structure. Next, tighten it;
  • tighten the screws, preferably not too much, almost to the limit, without breaking the thread.

Before you begin adjusting the height of the doors, you need to select self-tapping screws with fine threads. These fasteners will be able to provide the necessary adjustments to the position of the front part of the furniture.

Height adjustment is made with two screws

By plane

Adjusting the hinges allows you to change the location of the front part of the furniture along the plane. This is required when there is weak pressing of the door to the body of the furniture or if, during pressure, the door surface moves in the opposite direction.

This control step is performed as follows:

  • if there is weak pressing of the door or its rebound, then it is necessary to turn the second adjusting bolt, which is located in the hinge area;
  • you need to tighten the bolts towards yourself (2-3 mm is enough);
  • It is imperative to check whether there is a gap between the façade or doors;
  • If the need arises, further adjustment of the loops can be carried out.

When performing this stage, it is better to tighten the bolt more. The fact is that it is on this fastening element that a large mass of furniture is supported. When tightening, it is recommended to use a Phillips screwdriver. But the work must be done carefully, it is important not to rip or damage the bolt threads.

Caring for fittings

We have already understood how to install and adjust the hinges, but it is important to preserve these elements for a long time. You definitely need to be able to adjust and lubricate these components, this is what will help protect them from rapid wear.

  • The first adjustment of the hinge elements must be done after screwing them into place;
  • The amount and frequency of subsequent maintenance will depend on the intensity of use of furniture structures. If the doors do not open so often, then it will be enough to adjust the hinges 2-3 times a year; with frequent use, even 4 times may not be enough;
  • be sure to check regularly appearance on the front part of the cabinets, if distortions and a low level of the rebate are suddenly detected, then it is necessary to make precise adjustments;
  • In order for furniture fittings to maintain their quality for a long time, it is necessary to lubricate the hinges. Can be lubricated with motor oil with a mineral or synthetic composition;
  • In order not to hear noises, and also not to feel difficulties when opening and closing cabinet doors, you need to lubricate all hinges with motor oil once a year.

When adjusting, try to adjust three main parameters at once - height, plane and vertical. This will help prevent imbalances that could place heavy, uneven stress on the hinges.

Setting up hinges is not that difficult; the whole process will take on average no more than 10 minutes. But at the same time, it will help preserve the quality of the hinges and the entire structure for a long time. The main thing is that when adjusting the hinges, do not forget about the recommendations and proper care of the fittings.

WD-40 is suitable for lubricating hinges

Cases often arise when something that opened and closed tightly and without difficulty before began to cause a lot of inconvenience. Adjusting the doors will help eliminate any problems. Over time, old doors sag from their own weight, creak, and are difficult to close. Any problem can be resolved by first studying the instructions for adjusting interior door units.

  1. Creaking sound when opening or closing the door.
  2. Force is required to open and close.
  3. An uneven gap appeared between the box and the canvas.
  4. The interior door opens on its own.
  5. The sash does not lock in the half-open position.

Tools

To adjust the design of an interior door block, a standard set of tools and devices is required.

  • Screwdriver.
  • Hammer.
  • Plumb.
  • Chisel.
  • Grease (a stylus will do instead) a simple pencil).
  • Plane.

Operating procedure

  1. Determine the location of the problem. These can be hinges, a box, a canvas or a lock (latch). If the problem is related to the opening of the sash, then it is better to check the verticality of the elements with a plumb line. The tightness of the interior fabric is easily determined using a sheet of paper, which must be placed between the sash and the frame at the moment of closing.
  2. Prepare the faulty area for repair. In some cases, this requires opening access to the hinges by removing the canvas. Often the box is skewed relative to the wall. In this situation, it is necessary to dismantle it and then reinstall it.
  3. Eliminate the problem using the necessary tools and equipment.

Adjustment in planes

The way to adjust the opening and closing of an interior door is to adjust the leaf in two planes. In most cases, this is enough to tighten the screws in the elements door hardware.

If you are yet to choose an interior door unit, it is important to take into account the nuances that will allow you to avoid such a breakdown.

  • A lightweight door leaf does not sag due to the low load on the opening axis.
  • Hidden hinges ensure long-term operation of the interior door design without the need for horizontal adjustment.
  • require horizontal adjustment much less often.

Vertical

If the interior panel opens or closes on its own, then its plane is not vertical. The misalignment may be due to the misalignment of the hinges or the non-vertical position of the hinge beam. An extended building level will help you check what is causing the spontaneous opening of the interior door.

If the problem lies in the alignment of the hinges, then it can be solved by reinstalling them. If the verticality of the hinge beam is broken, it needs to be adjusted.

Sometimes the problem of opening an interior door on your own is much easier to solve. A key and lock must be inserted into such a door if it is expected to be closed most of the time.

Horizontal

Horizontal sagging of the canvas is the most common problem requiring adjustment. Her reason is constant pressure the weight of the web on its axis of rotation. If the hinges are open and the elements of the interior door block are made of low-density material, then the door will sag.

To determine whether horizontal adjustment is required, checking the verticality of its elements using a tape measure, pencil and plumb line will help. Horizontal sagging is easily recognized by the non-parallel lines of the edges of the sash and frame beams.

Standard instructions for horizontal adjustment of an interior door include dismantling the hinges and their subsequent reinstallation. The top loop is moved above its previous location, and the bottom loop is moved below.

If the hinges are unsuitable for further use, they must be replaced by choosing a larger size. If the interior panel has a large mass, it is necessary to install an additional, third loop to reduce the load on the other two.

It happens that some time after installation at the top of the door the leaf clings to the frame. To eliminate this defect, a small layer is removed from the upper end of the sash with a plane. solid wood. After this, you need to restore the paint layer of the panel.

Setting up locks and handles

Adjustment of locks and handles is required in two cases.

  1. The lock is not seated tightly in the socket.
  2. The lock escutcheon touches the narthex.

The first problem can be eliminated by tightening the screws or installing a gasket in the space between the lock and the socket.

The second problem can be easily solved by deepening the groove under the latch or lock.

Adjusting the hinges

Often the problem of opening and closing an interior door occurs when the hinges are not seated correctly in the thickness of the elements of the door block. It is easy to check the correct location of the hinges: the surface of the box (canvas) and the metal surface of the hinge must coincide. If this is not the case, adjustment is necessary door hinges according to the following schemes.

  • If the surface of the hinge is recessed into the thickness of the wood material, then the interior door does not close tightly. In this case, a cardboard backing of the required thickness is placed under the loop.
  • If the surface of the hinges protrudes above the solid structure, then physical force is required to close the sash. To eliminate this problem, you need to deepen the groove for the hinge in the thickness of the corresponding elements of the door block.
  • Sometimes the sash gets stuck on the frame. Cause are wrong installed hinges, they are visible from the front side when the interior door is closed. In this situation, it is necessary to rearrange the loops so that they are not visible.

How to adjust an interior door with your own hands

Self-adjustment of interior doors requires the use of precise measuring instruments and adherence to accuracy in carrying out all adjustment work.

You can adjust the interior door yourself if you have the necessary tools. Most reasons that require adjustment are easily remedied. But in special cases, when the box is not vertical or skewed, it needs to be reinstalled.

The door frame consists of parts:

  1. loop beam;
  2. lintel (upper) beam;
  3. decorative trims, installed in the plane of the wall.

Reinstallation door frame occurs according to the following scheme.

  • Complete dismantling of the interior door. It is necessary to remove the canvas from the hinges, dismantle the decorative trims and the box.
  • Assembling the box. Loop, lintel and false beams are assembled strictly perpendicular to each other. If the ends of the beams are cut at an angle of 45 degrees, then a horizontal screw must be used to fasten them. If reinstallation of the hinges is required, then before assembling the beams it is necessary to mark the attachment points of the hinge elements, joining the canvas and the box on a flat horizontal surface, and secure them.
  • Installation of the structure in the opening. To eliminate the distortion and install all the elements vertically, it is necessary to fasten the long beams with two temporary ties made of wooden planks. To avoid possible distortions when installing in an opening in the wall, wooden wedges will help, with which the fastened beams are fixed in the two upper corners and in the middle part of the long beams. After fixing, the box is attached to the wall with anchor bolts. If the wall is made of brick, then the opening for fixation may have wooden plugs at the top and bottom.
  • Filling the gap between the beams and the wall using polyurethane foam. During the drying process, the polyurethane foam doubles in volume. To prevent the beams from deforming after it has completely dried, you need to carefully study the instructions for its consumption.
  • Installation of platbands using special decorative nails without heads.

It happens that even reinstalling the box does not eliminate the problem, and the interior door does not close even after this time-consuming procedure. In this case, only replacing the entire door block will help. To prevent things from reaching this extreme measure, preventive maintenance of its operation should be carried out regularly.

On the market modern doors An incredible number of different models are presented, the sight of which makes your eyes widen. Do right choice to an ordinary person very difficult, since you need to take into account many nuances that only a specialist knows about. Whatever the door, it requires periodic adjustment, which will extend its service life. This procedure eliminates almost all possible nuances (difficult closing/opening or creaking). If problems arise when installing doors by shop technicians, it would be better to call them again, but if necessary, you can try to fix everything yourself.

In order to make a quality adjustment or avoid it altogether, you should pay attention to the fittings even when purchasing, since subsequent operation will depend on its quality. During installation, everything must be adjusted initially. The fact is that often the door itself may not have any flaws at all, but poor-quality or incorrectly installed fittings will cause a lot of inconvenience. First of all, you should pay attention to the door handle and lock. The handle should not be difficult to open the door and should not creak, and the lock or latch body on the receiving side should not cling to the lining and protrude above the end of the door. You should also know that there are two types of locks - silent and magnetic. The first ones have a plastic tongue, which makes less noise when clapping, but is unreliable. Magnetic ones do not have a tongue at all and do not require adjustment, but are triggered when the doors are closed by magnetization and are more convenient, in addition, they are also durable. The door handle should be adjusted by removing the outer lock cover and lubricating the mechanism, and the silent lock is adjusted by increasing the depth of the tongue groove.

Loops come in hidden and regular type and often they are the cause of poor closing of doors. The hidden type most often causes such problems and must be recessed into the door hatch or moved closer to the door by dismantling. It should be noted that not all hinges of this type have the ability to open at an angle greater than a straight line, which causes inconvenience in some cases. Conventional external ones are practically not regulated in any way; only periodic lubrication is possible, which makes the door opening softer.

The door may also touch the lower or upper casing or the surface of the door. In this case, you need to press down the place of intended contact with a hammer. If this fails, you will need to work with a plane, and then paint the area where it was processed. Alternatively, carefully file it down.

All adjustment of interior doors takes a minimum of time, and you will need the simplest tool that is available in any house or apartment. It is very easy to adjust the door yourself; the main thing is to do this during installation, otherwise there will be a lot of inconvenience during operation.

]]> ]]> Most problems that arise in the operation of interior doors (creaking, difficulty opening or closing) are very easily eliminated by adjustment. If your door was installed by craftsmen who provided you with a guarantee, then it is better to use their help again. If there is no guarantee, then you can adjust the interior structure yourself.
Tools needed to adjust an interior door

Adjustment process interior design can not live without:

Basic ways to eliminate major defects

1. The first defect is the door leaf not closing tightly. As a rule, in this case, the door either cannot be closed at all, or excessive physical force is required to close it. In most cases, this phenomenon can be caused by:

skewed installed box. In this case, the degree of fastening between all the beams is checked. If at least one of the beams is not securely fastened, then the box must be removed and each of them must be individually secured using a couple of screws;
insufficient depth of loops. This causes the effect of pulling the product back. In this case, it is necessary to properly tighten all the screws. If this does not help, then it is necessary to remove the hinges and deepen the niches;
violation of the degree of deepening of the hinges into the interior door or into the frame itself. To solve this problem, you need to move the hinges to the right place, and also tighten all the remaining screws.

2. The second defect occurs as a result of the product getting stuck in the opening. This is evidenced by the fact that the canvas becomes heavy or very difficult to open, while its closing occurs arbitrarily and very quickly. Typically, this can be caused by the following reasons:

the presence of a loose box.

In this case, it is stretched towards the beam responsible for the vestibule. You can accurately determine the screws that need tightening by visually checking the curvature of the counter beam. If necessary, adjust the entire box using self-tapping screws;
strong deepening of the loops. To eliminate this problem, loosen the fasteners. And also, if necessary, remove the loops and place thin cardboard under them;
by moving the loops far out. In this case, adjust the hinges and tighten the fasteners.

]]> ]]> 3. The third defect is that half-open doors either close or open. This may be caused by problems with the verticality of the installed box. If the product opens without permission, this indicates that the top of the box is tilted. Unauthorized closing of the door can be caused by the door being tilted to the right of the vertical. Both defects can be corrected by aligning the box strictly vertically. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the product is securely fastened in this position. In most cases, only the loop beam needs straightening.

4. The fourth defect is the creaking of the product. As a rule, this problem can be eliminated using regular lubricant. To do this, the product is removed from the hinges, the hinges are lubricated with grease based on grease and hung back. Also solve this problem possible, thanks to the use of a simple pencil lead, which is simply placed inside.

Obviously, eliminating most defects in the door structure is a very simple procedure. But at the same time, you need to make sure that everything installation work were carried out slowly, and the values were carefully measured.

How to adjust an interior door. detailed instructions

Almost any problems associated with an interior door, for example, creaking, difficulty opening or closing, can be eliminated with the help of adjustments. If the door was installed by store technicians and they gave you a guarantee, it is better to call them again and just observe the process. Otherwise, try to adjust the interior door yourself.

You will need

Screwdriver;
- grease based on grease or pencil lead;
- plane;
- hammer;
- chisel;
- plumb line or laser range finder.

]]> ]]> Instructions
1

If the door does not close, check that the frame is installed correctly using a plumb line and a laser range finder. Perhaps there was a misalignment during installation. In this case, remove the frame from the doorway and reinstall it, screwing at least two screws into each joint.

2

Please note that the door may also not close due to the fact that the hinges are set too deep from the outer front plane of the door. To fix this, remove the hinges and reattach them, moving them closer.
3
Perhaps the door does not close well because the hinges are not deep enough into the frame and protrude above the surface. In this case, unscrew the screws holding the hinges and increase the depth of the grooves.
4
If the door “gets stuck” in the frame and clings, the reason may be that the hinges are fastened too close to the edge; see if the hinges “peek out” above the front plane. Correct this by reattaching.
5
It is quite possible that the reason for a loose door shutter is that the grooves for the hinges were cut too deep. In this case, place thin cardboard spacers inside.
6
If the latch or latch body of the door handle catches on the trim on the receiving side and protrudes above the end surface of the door, correct this defect by increasing the depth of the lock or latch groove.
7
If the door slightly touches the top or bottom jamb, place carbon paper over the intended contact area and close the door. Then look at where the stain has formed. A slight unevenness on wooden box you can simply “press” it with a hammer. If it was not possible to cope with the problem in this way, remove the excess with a plane and paint the door again.
8
To get rid of a door squeak, remove it from its hinges, then lubricate the hinges with any grease-based lubricant or put a small piece of pencil lead inside and hang it back.

How to properly insert and adjust an interior door

]]> ]]> If after installation your interior door does not close or, conversely, opens on its own, if after installing interior doors with a threshold the door leaf clings to it or the jamb, you need to adjust the interior door.

The adjustment process requires certain skills and is quite labor-intensive: correcting installation defects is much more difficult than doing everything correctly at once.

How to adjust an interior door

So, if the door does not close, then below are the reasons why this happens:

Most likely, when installing hinges on interior doors, they are set too deep from the outer front plane of the door. Corrected by displacing and reattaching the hinges.

The plane of the hinges (or one of them) protrudes above the end surface of the door or frame. Corrected by increasing the depth of the grooves in the hinge floor.

Sometimes, when the door is closed, the frame becomes skewed due to inaccurate and weak fastening during assembly. It is corrected by removing the box from the opening and re-attaching it with at least two self-tapping screws in each joint.

How to insert interior doors correctly

]]> ]]> If the door clings or “gets stuck” in the frame, then most likely you did not install it correctly, below are the reasons:

The hinges protrude too much above the front surface of the door. Corrected by moving deeper and re-attaching.

While fastening the interior doors, the frame was bent inward. It can be corrected by tightening the side screws or adding new ones.

The hinge grooves are too deep. Corrected by placing thin cardboard under the hinges.

When installing handles on interior doors, the body of the latch (or lock) protrudes above the end surface of the door and clings to the receiving pad. Corrected by increasing the depth of the groove for the latch (lock) and reinstalling.

As you can see, installing interior doors correctly is much easier than eliminating defects later.

In addition, problems may arise after repairing old interior doors.

Adjusting interior doors

After installation, the door structure needs adjustment. To understand how to adjust an interior door, you will need to know the main defects that could arise during installation of the product.

Where does the adjustment of interior doors begin? First, you need to check if the box is warped. It's very easy to do. The door must be closed and all joints with the frame must be checked. If they are uniform in width, then there is no need to worry. It is better to move on to a more detailed design check.

What tool do you need to have on hand to carry out measures to regulate structures of the described type? First of all, this is a plumb line or laser rangefinder, a screwdriver, a lead pencil, a hammer, a chisel and a screwdriver. In addition, you will need a grease-based lubricant.

Defects and methods for their elimination

The first and most important problem is that the canvas does not close. That is, it is either impossible to close it at all, or you have to apply excessive force physical strength. There are three reasons why this phenomenon can occur:

The second defect is associated with the product getting stuck in the opening. In other words, it is impossible or very difficult to open the canvas, but it closes itself without any problems. Here we can also distinguish three “diagnoses”:

  1. loose box - you should stretch it towards the beam, which is responsible for the vestibule. You can correctly understand which screws need tightening by visually checking the curvature of this pretend beam. If necessary, you need to adjust the entire box using self-tapping screws;
  2. severe deepening of the hinges is “treated” by loosening the fastening elements (screws). But this action may not help. Then you will need to remove the hinges in order to place a piece of cardboard (thin) under them;
  3. the hinges are too far outside - it is necessary to adjust the hinges and tighten the fasteners.

It may also happen that a half-open canvas either closes or opens. This indicates problems with the verticality of the installed box. If unauthorized opening occurs, this means that the top of the box is tilted (and is to the right of the vertical). The reason for unauthorized closing is the bottom tilted to the right of the vertical. Both defects can be corrected by aligning the box strictly vertically. It is important to ensure that it is securely fastened in this form. As practice shows, it is not the entire frame that needs straightening, but only the hinge beam.

Metal doors were invented to protect the home from thieves, and are one of the main means of home security. Such a door is highly durable, reliable and lasts a long time, and in the assortment you can find a design to suit every taste. But even reliable design It may start to creak and close poorly. In this case, it will be useful to know how to adjust a poorly functioning metal entrance door.

The process is quite easy and can be done with your own hands using a simple set of tools. If you are not sure how to adjust the input metal door, we advise you to study the video with the setup process.

Basic methods

Door adjustment is a set of measures that combines the repair of problems and their prevention. In number necessary procedures include:

  • Lubricating and adjusting the locking mechanism;
  • Cleaning the functional parts of the door from dust and other contaminants;
  • Adjustment of hinges and awnings;
  • Checking and replacing the rubber seal;
  • Adjustment of the closer mechanism;
  • Tightening loose fittings.

Almost all of the above processes are quite easy to implement without major expenses. The result will be a trouble-free door that will perform all functions and look beautiful. How to achieve such a result? More on this later.

Setting up argument mechanisms

Nowadays, springs for closing doors are in most cases replaced by closers, which make the door last longer. The design of the closer is also based on a spring, which is located in a housing full of oil. The closer also ensures smooth closing of the door. But at the same time, the closer, being a more complex system, requires maintenance, like many other parts of the door, and with its help you can adjust a metal door.

Closer mechanism.

The better the door closer works, the more convenient it will be to use the door. The initial adjustment of entrance doors and their similar elements is done at the installation stage. But during operation, the oil in the vessel thickens and needs to be replaced, and the mechanisms become upset and require maintenance.

How to adjust the door closer

To change the door slam speed, you simply need to turn one of the adjustment valves in a certain direction. If your door opens and closes quickly or slowly, you also
you will have to use adjustment units, but for this you need to know how to properly and professionally adjust the front door.

Closer adjustment diagram.

To adjust the spring tension level, you must use a special adjusting nut. During service or life situation There are times when the door must be left open; a special lock was created for this purpose. You just need to open the door 90 degrees and tighten the latch a little. To adjust the valve against sudden opening of the door, turn the adjustment nut counterclockwise; if, on the contrary, we want to open the door sharply, turn it clockwise. This adjustment aluminum doors will significantly improve the operation of doors and prevent them from breaking down for a long time.

If you still don’t understand how to adjust a metal door, there is a video from professionals at your service.

Cleaning and adjusting the lock

Sometimes the lock starts to work poorly even if there is no visible problem with the hinges and other systems. Almost all of this is the fault of the castle itself.

General cleaning and adjustments to your old metal front door can give it a lifespan, especially on the lock, which will make it work like new. Overlay type locks are easily removed from the door, and cleaning and lubricating such a device is quite simple. But it is better to give other types of locks to a locksmith for repairs, because they are quite complex.

The frequency of maintenance measures for locks depends entirely on the operating conditions of the latter and the frequency of use. For example, a castle in apartment door will live without maintenance for about a year, and for a lock in country house Service once every three months is acceptable. For maximum effect, you must not only know how to adjust and maintain an iron entrance door, but also be able to do it efficiently. A wide selection of special tools will help with this, which can not only help remove dirt, but even help melt the ice.

When choosing a lubricant, it is important not to make a mistake and choose depending on the type of mechanism. So, cylinder lock You don’t have to lubricate it at all, but one of its varieties, the crossbar, must be lubricated with machine oil to reduce friction between parts during operation.

Thus, having a cylinder lock, you practically do not have to think about adjusting the doors.

To lubricate the lever locks you will need an ordinary pencil. Lightly crumble the lead and pour the resulting crumbs into the castle. For greater effect, you can try blowing the lead into the lock. This non-trivial way of adjusting a door using a stylus is very useful, because ordinary lock lubricant for a lever lock will only be harmful, since it will help the mechanism become even more dirty, which will subsequently disable it.

Lubricate the cylinder lock

Spray the required cleaning agent into the cylinder until a little of it flows out of the container. After this, you need to insert the key into the lock and remove it, but do not turn it, otherwise the mechanism may jam and you will have to look for how to adjust an aluminum door broken due to carelessness.

Cross-shaped cylindrical lock.

Next, wipe the lubricant key with a clean cloth, then inject more oil into the cylinder and insert and remove the key again. After the oil has completely spread throughout the cylinder, insert the key and turn it different sides repeatedly. To clean and lubricate the cylinder, you can use ordinary machine oil.

How to set up loops?

When adjusting most iron doors The following tips will be helpful:

    • It is very important to carry out installation work, taking into account the size of the gap between the canvas and the upper casing. The gap on the door side should be larger than the gap on the awning side, which will make the adjustment process easier in the future;
    • Sometimes, immediately after installing the door, there may be a slight squeak that gets worse over time. This happens when the door rubs against the trim, and it is because of this that the door finish wears out more. To prevent this, it is necessary to adjust the awnings using the screws on them;
    • To adjust the doors, you need to loosen the screws on the hinge; they are located near the friction point; if necessary, loosen the screws of all hinges;
    • Using a flat-head screwdriver, move the hinges to the side to obtain a gap, this position is fixed with a screw, and after the procedure the door is closed with the handle pressed all the way;
    • If this helps remove the friction, fix the other screws; if the friction has moved to the other side, you should move the movable part of the hinge to the other side and secure it. The doors are adjusted until friction is lost.

Tormented by draft

If there is a draft “walking” through the front door, the recent adjustment of the door hinges, made due to a defect in the entrance doors, is not necessarily to blame. Air often breaks through due to the old seal that is always present on iron doors.

To adjust the door, a replacement will be required sealing rubber bands, for which you need to purchase a replacement strip of the same thickness.

Such a product is always available in any hardware store, as well as the instructions for it. After purchasing, you should fasten the seal along the edges of the vestibule and the draft will recede.

During the operation of the door, it sometimes stops closing tightly. Just as in the case of a draft, replacing the seal will help. Before changing, make sure that the rebate is the same along the entire length of the door; if this is the case, secure a new tape around the perimeter. After completing this procedure, there should be another control check, and in case of problems, the aluminum doors are re-adjusted by doing it yourself.

Since the weight of the steel sheet is significant, even after professional installation of the structure, problems arise over time due to weakening (deformation) of the canopies. As a result, the door does not fit tightly, it becomes loose, locks and bolts jam, and a number of other shortcomings. In most cases, defects that arise can be eliminated by simply adjusting the metal door.

Once you understand the cause of the problem, you can fix it yourself. And depending on what caused the problem, the necessary techniques, tools and materials are selected.

Formation of a gap

Simply put, gaps appear between the block and the canvas. The main symptom of this malfunction is drafts in the room even with dense closed sash, although the cracks are easy to detect visually. Probable reasons some.

  • Seal wear. Adjusting the front door alone does not solve the problem: the rubber rubber should be replaced. This is not difficult to do - the old material is removed, the place where it is fixed is thoroughly cleaned, degreased and a new tape or tube is glued. The nuance is that you first need to check the position of the canvas. Perhaps the increased wear of the rubber is precisely caused by its misalignment.
  • The canvas sagged. To eliminate this defect, it is necessary to adjust the hinges of the front door. To do this, the fastening parts of the canopies (lower and upper) are slightly screwed in/unscrewed. Since the limit of their movement along the axis is limited, it is advisable to place a washer or locker under the screws or bolts in case of increased wear of the hinges.

It will become clear at the location what exactly needs to be done, since the hinges differ in design features. It may be advisable to replace one of them (or both), and only then think about how to adjust the front door.

tight narthex

And in this case, the reasons for the door not closing well may be different.

  1. New seal. This occurs if the block structure has just been installed. The rubber rubber has not yet “spread”, and therefore some effort has to be made when closing/opening the canvas. There is no need to do anything here; literally after a few days this defect disappears on its own.
  2. Large thickness of tape (cord). Typically the result incorrect selection material according to size. If the fabric is not distorted, then it is hardly worth waiting for the rubber rubber to wear out. If the parameters (thickness, cross-section) are significantly exceeded, the error must be corrected and the seal replaced.
  3. The tongue touching the plate. As a rule, with such a defect, adjustment of the metal entrance door is done using a file. But on condition correct position, without distortions. The plate only needs to be sharpened a little, and there will be no difficulties in the process of closing/opening. If it has antennae, then it is enough to bend them slightly, and the position of the part will change.

The appearance of a creak

Adjustment is unlikely to help here. Most likely, this is the result of neglecting maintenance issues. Like any device that has moving parts, it also needs regular inspection and maintenance. What needs to be done?

  • Clean the canopies from old grease, dirt, and metal dust.
  • Wash the hinges with gasoline or blow with compressed air.
  • If signs of rust are detected, treat with WD-40, more commonly referred to as “liquid key.”

Attention! WD-40 is not a lubricant, as many people mistakenly believe. This composition is used only to soften solid fractions (salt deposits, rust, etc.).

  • Remove any remaining metal oxides and rinse the canopies again.
  • Apply a special composition - a rust converter - to the rubbing parts.
  • Thoroughly lubricate all hinge parts. The manufacturer's instructions indicate recommended products. If the door is made independently, then it is quite enough to treat it with machine oil.
  • Before working on the hinges, you need to carefully inspect the frame. The creaking can also be caused by the door being skewed. This is easy to determine by the characteristic shine of the metal in a separate area. If this is the case, then you should first adjust the position of the canvas, and only then service the awnings.

Perfect and precise design metal-plastic door, but it also begins to function poorly. In the case of wooden doors, in addition to hinges, this can be caused by deformation of the leaf or frame itself; plastic doors begin to “be capricious” solely due to a malfunction of the mechanism. Let's look at how to adjust a plastic door with your own hands in detail.

Possible problems

A normally installed and functioning door should open and close easily, not rub against the frame, and the connection should be uniform around the perimeter. Opened door in the absence of drafts, it should be in a stable position.

The clamping mechanism must “bring” the door without a gap between it and the frame. It’s easy to check - a sheet of paper sandwiched between the door ledge and the frame should be pulled out along the entire length of the door ledge with some effort.
Failure to satisfy any condition means that the geometry is broken.

The plastic balcony door has sagged or the sash has shifted relative to the frame. All defects can be corrected by adjusting the fittings.

If the warranty period has not yet expired

then this should be done Customer Service the company that installed the door. Otherwise, you can call a specialist. But the good thing about modern designs is that if you have instructions, self-adjustment plastic doors Anyone can do it and requires a minimal set of tools - hex keys, screwdrivers and pliers.

This article discusses the most common cases of adjusting swing plastic entrance (interior) and balcony doors.

Pendulum or sliding systems have their own methods.

Adjusting a plastic door with three hinges: entrance

Entrance doors differ from interior ones in the thickness of the profile and glass unit, but their hinges are similar. And the differences from balconies are more significant. This is both the type of loops and the lack folding mechanism(for ventilation). Let's figure out how to adjust a plastic door with three hinges yourself.

Typically, such doors have three hinges installed - top and bottom, and the third can stand next to the top or in the middle of the leaf. In principle, this is the usual arrangement and number of hinges so that they normally “support” the weight of the door. Differences may be in the design of the loop and the clamping mechanism, and therefore in the adjustment.

Overlay door hinge (type greenteQ TB 100.ZD.K)

This hinge has a decorative strip and is adjustable in three dimensions.

Horizontal and vertical displacement occurs using two screws, and the pressure is adjusted using a screw and a bar between the hinge and the box.

1. To adjust skew:

To adjust plastic doors relative to the vertical axis horizontally (right-left), it is necessary to remove the decorative strip on the hinge installed on the door leaf. First, you need to open the door and unscrew the screw that holds this bar. Then the door is closed and the bar is removed. Under it there are 6 fastening screws for a screwdriver (perpendicular to the blade) and one adjusting screw for a hexagon - parallel to the blade towards the hinge.

By screwing it in or out, you can adjust the displacement of the door relative to the vertical by 5 mm in each direction along the X axis.

2. To raise (and even lower)

the sash uses a key-adjusting screw located at the lower end of the hinge. It is covered with another decorative strip, which simply “unfastens”.

They can raise the door by 4 mm or lower it by 1 mm, relative to the factory setting along the Y axis.

3.Adjustment of the plastic door: fine adjustment of the pressure

(within 1.5 mm) is carried out using a screw located at the upper end of the loop.

For a “rough” adjustment, you need to remove the door from its hinges, and then the part of the hinge that is installed on the frame. It is attached to it through strips, which can have a thickness from 1 mm to 5 mm. In this way, you can further adjust the door pressure (along the Z axis).

Door hinge type WX

has horizontal adjustment up to 6.2 mm, vertical adjustment up to 4 mm, the clamp can be adjusted with a screw up to 1.8 mm (if necessary, the clamp can be improved with additional bushings at the place where the hinge is attached to the box).

1. Horizontal adjustment occurs using a side screw located under the decorative trim on a hinge that is attached to the door. First, you need to unscrew the screw that secures the position of the hinge relative to the “0” level. It is located in the body of the hinge and runs parallel to the door leaf. Then you need to unscrew the screw that locks the outer decorative body of the hinge; by moving it, you can gain access to the adjusting screw.

With its help, you can shift the position of the sash to the right or left.

2. The pressure adjustment takes place on the mating part of the hinge (attached to the door frame). It is necessary to remove the decorative cap from the end of the loop. Under it you can see an eccentric with slots.

In order to release it, you need to unscrew the locking screw (it is located on the side of the hinge body on the door side). Then, using a special key inserted into the slots of the eccentric, you need to turn it to the required angle and lock it. This way you can strengthen or weaken the pressure.

You can use a regular plate or a wide flat-head screwdriver, but the vertical adjustment screw will get in the way. In this case, it must be completely unscrewed.

3. Vertical adjustment is carried out using a screw screwed into the loop from below, through a pressure adjustment eccentric.

How to adjust a plastic balcony door

Adjustment of plastic doors follows the same algorithm as for a plastic window. Each manufacturer's fittings may have differences in adjustment methods, but in many respects they are similar.

Adjustment of plastic doors horizontally (X-axis) to the right or left can be done using two screws in the lower and upper hinge (depending on which part of the door is “rubbed”).

Both screws are visible when the sash is open. The lower one is located in the hinge support part of the box.

The top one is located in the mating part of the hinge on the sash.

By tightening or unscrewing the screw, you can move the sash away from the frame or towards it.

Vertical adjustment (Y-axis) is carried out using a screw located in the lower hinge behind the decorative strip, on the outside of the door on the leaf itself.

It is located at the end. By screwing it in or out, the door is raised or lowered.

The pressure is adjusted by turning the eccentrics located at the vertical end of the door leaf.

First you need to find out in which part the clamp is too loose or too strong. The eccentrics “work” in tandem with the locking plates on the box. If the eccentric is located along the sash - the pressure is minimal, perpendicular - maximum. Turn the eccentric using pliers.

Another type of door pressure adjustment occurs not with the help of eccentrics, but with the help of a locking pin at the end of the leaf.

It has a hole for a hex key and a control point (risk). Depending on the position of this point, the pressure can be stronger or weaker. Adjusting plastic doors and very similar.

There is a third type of pressure adjustment, which occurs using a counter (locking) plate located on the box itself. It can move relative to the frame, thereby strengthening and weakening the connection of the door.

In addition, you can adjust the plastic balcony door not only from the side of the hinges and eccentrics, but also from the side of the folding mechanism.

First you need to fold back the open sash

But the mechanism itself does not allow you to turn the handle up when the sash is open. To remove the handle fixation, you need to press the “tongue” (flag, clip) at the end of the door, in the area of the handle itself.

It may look different, but its principle of operation is the same - when closed, the sash presses it and unlocks the handle, which can be turned up, setting the door for ventilation. If you open the door and press the “tongue” with your hand, then the door in this state can be folded back at the top. But at the same time, it is better to keep it suspended - after all, it will be held down at one point on the lower loop.

The inside of the top hardware mechanism will open (usually the door “closes” it). There will be one (or two) eccentrics with hexagon adjustment screws.

Using them you can press (or press out) the door in the area of the hinges.

By squeezing the “tongue”, the door is returned to a vertical state, after which the door can be closed.

These are the main methods for adjusting mechanisms different types doors.

Information to note : .

Adjusting plastic doors yourself video.

Until recently, plastic doors were used only in shopping centers and offices. Later, this element migrated to apartments and private houses, where it took its rightful place in the hallway, hall and balcony. Unlike wood, plastic eliminates the penetration of dust and noise, is not afraid of water and is available in various colors. The material is easy to care for, so it is a justified choice. But even a well-manufactured and installed structure is not a guarantee of durability. Therefore, timely adjustment of the plastic door is of great importance.

What is plastic door adjustment?

By adjusting a plastic door we mean the process of checking and bringing its functional characteristics (opening/closing, pressing force) to the required values. You should start adjusting when you notice the first signs of improper operation of the door. If the moment is missed, then there is a risk of the door leaf breaking with the need to replace it, which will require quite significant financial costs. Experts agree that preventive examination plastic doors should be cleaned no more than once a year. More frequent repairs are fraught with increased wear of hardware and sealing elements.

Types of adjustment

The adjustment includes adjusting the position of the door leaf and repairing the door hardware. In the first case, the following types of work are distinguished:

  • vertical adjustment designed to eliminate the problem of sagging plastic doors due to their own weight;
  • horizontal adjustment, the purpose of which is to eliminate friction between the door and the threshold;
  • frontal adjustment of the pressure, carried out seasonally (summer and winter) to reduce or increase the gap between the leaf and the door frame.

Plastic doors are adjustable in three directions: vertical, horizontal or frontal

Special attention should be paid to repairing handles, locks, hinges and other fittings. When the turning handle is stiff, it is not so easy to use, especially if there is a child living in the house who cannot physically close the door all the way. At the slightest gust the door swings wide open. The opposite situation is a loose handle, leading to drafts.

Reasons for adjusting doors

The reasons for the need for adjustment are several factors.

  1. Shrinkage of the building. This is a natural process that only occurs in new buildings.
  2. Incorrect operation of the door. Hanging on handle and canvas foreign objects, sudden opening and slamming of the door increases the load on the hinges.
  3. Door sagging under its own weight. Although plastic doors are classified as lightweight, no one has yet canceled the force of gravity.
  4. Sudden and frequent changes temperature regime. These phenomena lead to depressurization of the door system.

How to understand that a door needs adjustment

An obvious sign that it is time to restore the door is the leakage of cold air and noise into the enclosed space. Difficulties in opening the doors also indicate problems. Finally, a lot of trouble can be caused by condensation accumulating on glass or slopes as a result of the formation of cracks between the door and the frame.

For lovers of practical methods, special tricks are offered that allow you to assess the condition of the door.

  1. Checking the gap. To do this, place a sheet of paper between the slightly open door and the door frame. The door is closed all the way, moving the handle to the lower position. When the sheet is sealed relative to the box, it is very difficult to remove the sheet. If there is a gap between a pair of elements, the paper can be removed easily.

    If the gap is adjusted correctly, the paper will eject with noticeable force.

  2. Checking for skew. The assessment begins with the fact that on the door frame when closed door Use a pencil to mark the perimeter of the sash. The edges of the door leaf serve as a ruler. After this, the door is opened and the parallelism of the bottom of the opening and the outlined line is compared. If the parallelism is broken, the door needs adjustment. Similar comparison can be done using building level. To do this, apply a level to the horizontal and vertical parts of the open door. Based on the deviation of the instrument indicators, the actual skew is determined. To determine the skew of the door frame, its diagonals are measured. They must be equal to each other.

    To assess the curvilinearity of a PVC door, a standard bubble level with three flasks, a simple pencil and a three-meter tape measure are suitable

  3. Checking the immobility of the door leaf when open. Open the door at an angle of about 45 o and leave it in that position. If the door slams spontaneously or opens even more, then this is a signal for adjustment. Of course, when carrying out the test, the influence of wind must be excluded.

    If a door, slightly open at an angle of about 45 degrees, opens or closes spontaneously, it needs to be adjusted

Is it possible to adjust a plastic door yourself?

With proper installation, the need to adjust a PVC profile door will not come soon. But if there are faults, repairs cannot be postponed. If the product is covered by a warranty period, you must contact the company that installed the door. Independent intervention in the structure will remove the door from the warranty. Specialists who arrive on site will eliminate the defects free of charge without damaging the door mechanisms.

Adjusting the door yourself makes sense only after the warranty period has expired. This is not a difficult matter; you can set up a plastic door yourself, especially since many manufacturers include instructions with their products with a detailed description of this process. But before starting work, it is necessary to clearly understand the design of a plastic door and its main components.

Before you start adjusting the PVC door, always look at the warranty card so as not to violate the rules for using the product

Any plastic door consists of a base block and replaceable spare parts, among which there are mandatory (handles, hinges) and optional (lock, closers) fittings. In general, the design of a plastic door can be divided into the following components:

Photo gallery: adjustable elements of a plastic door

Using rotary pins, the pressure of the plastic door is adjusted Handles for plastic doors can be fixed or rotary The hinges are subject to heavy loads, so they are made of metal or Teflon Plastic doors of any design and degree of complexity can be adjusted

Tools needed to adjust plastic doors

To reduce the complexity of adjustment, you should prepare a set of necessary tools in advance. The minimum standard kit should include the following accessories.

  1. L-shaped keys with a hexagonal cross section. If in home arsenal If such items are not available, you can purchase them at construction supply stores. It is better to take several standard sizes - from 1.5 to 5 mm. The estimated cost of the set is 400–500 rubles.
  2. Screwdriver flat and Phillips. Can be replaced with a screwdriver with suitable bits. The most commonly used attachments are those marked TX and T.
  3. Pliers or pliers.

A real lifesaver in adjusting doors is a hex key, also called a furniture key.

If the plastic door has not been used for a long time, then when turning door hinges may make a squeaking sound. In this case, machine oil or technical aerosol WD-40 will come to the rescue. They not only remove rust deposits, but also reduce friction in moving mechanisms. The can of WD-40 lubricant comes with a nozzle in the form of a thin plastic tube. Due to its compact size, the product is ideal for door hinges and locks.

WD-40 is available in the form of an aerosol or oil; for doors it is better to use the first option

Instructions for various types of adjustments

Inexperienced craftsmen may decide that adjusting a PVC door is a complex procedure that requires special knowledge. But in practice, you just need to find the mechanism that needs tuning. The instructions below will help you carry out repairs quickly and efficiently.

How to straighten a sagging door

A sagging door is very easy to recognize - its edges cling to the vertical pillar of the door frame, and when closed, a gap forms at the top. Technically, adjusting such a door and the resulting distortion comes down to changing the gap between the sash and the hinge assembly. The process is similar to that used when adjusting the sashes of plastic windows. To eliminate the distortion, a horizontal adjustment is used, which allows you to pull the sash to the right or left.

The procedure for adjusting a sagging door will be as follows.

  1. We find a horizontal screw for adjustment in the lower hinge. It is hidden at the very bottom of the hinge on the frame side.

    By rotating the screw, you can move the door leaf towards the door lock

  2. We install a hexagon into it and turn it to the right or left. Turning it clockwise will bring the sash closer to the hinge, and counterclockwise will move it further away.

    After completing the horizontal adjustment, check the door for free opening and closing.

  3. We open the door to an angle of 90 o or more and find a hinge on the top of the door. Structurally, the mechanism differs from the one located below. But it has a similar hole for a hex key. We install the appropriate tool into it and turn it, bringing the door leaf closer or moving away from the axis of rotation. The screws should be rotated until the door stops clinging to the threshold.

    To eliminate sagging, just turn the key 1-2 times

How to adjust the height of a plastic door

If there are noticeable dents or abrasions on the door seals, then it’s time to adjust the height of the door. To do this, tighten the bottom loop.

The sequence of actions performed is as follows.

  1. We find in the door structure a lower hinge with adjusting screws. Usually they are hidden by a protective and decorative overlay. The latter needs to be removed by slightly pulling it towards you and up. Plastic dries out and cracks over time, so we do everything very carefully.

    The decorative overlay must be carefully pulled towards you and up.

  2. By removing the cover, we gain access to the screw for vertical adjustment. We install a hex key of a suitable size into its head (in most cases - 4 mm). Turning the key clockwise allows you to raise the blade, and counterclockwise - lowers it.

    Some manufacturers use an asterisk hole instead of a hex hole.

How to change the clamping force of a plastic door

It is recommended to adjust the pressure of the plastic door twice a year: reduce it in summer to improve ventilation, and increase it in winter to save heat in the room. Spontaneous weakening of the pressure in any season can occur for two reasons:

  • wear of rubber seals that lose their volume over time;
  • deformations caused by temperature gradient.

The use of a high-quality seal guarantees the tightness of the door structure

The consequence of weakening the pressure is the gaps between the frame and the door itself, leading to loss of sound insulation and heat. The solution may be to replace the seal, described below, or adjust the corresponding fittings.

The adjustment mechanism is small cylinders located at the end of the sash in the grooves of the plugs. They were called eccentrics. One plastic door can have up to seven pressure points. Opposite the eccentrics is a response mechanism. To regulate the clamping density, the eccentrics should be adjusted.

The sequence of actions for adjusting the door pressure consists of several steps.

  1. We find all the clamps on the plastic door. They can be located not only on the outside, but also on inside sash and even on top. On their front side there is a hole for a hex key, a groove for a screwdriver, or a smooth part with flats for gripping with pliers.

    The design of the eccentric depends on the hardware manufacturer

  2. To increase the pressure, the eccentric is turned clockwise, and to weaken it, counterclockwise. The entire set of eccentrics must be in the same position, otherwise the door may warp.

    The position of the eccentric in the middle of the groove corresponds to normal pressure

Video: adjusting the pressure of a plastic door

How to replace the seal to improve clamping

If after turning the eccentrics there is a draft in the room, then the seal must be replaced. To do this, purchase a new rubber profile from a hardware store with a cross-section and width similar to the old one. Good quality noted for silicone gaskets from Germany, a slightly more budget-friendly solution is to purchase ethylene-propylene rubber. To fix the profile you need adhesive composition for rubber.

Replacing a seal comes down to performing a number of activities.

  1. The old seal is completely removed, the remains are removed from the groove of the PVC door using a knife.
  2. The groove for the seal is degreased and covered with an adhesive mass, which is applied with a continuous tape.
  3. Installation of the new rubber cord begins from the corner; the material is not stretched or compressed during installation.

The seal comes out of the groove easily - just hook the material with a screwdriver and pull it towards you

Handle adjustment

Adjusting the handle is considered the simplest operation for restoring a plastic door. There are two common types of handle faults in everyday life: loose or stiff. The principle of troubleshooting is the same.

  1. Turn the protective insert covering the handle mount 90 o. This way you can gain access to the adjusting screws.

    The cap covering the screws is made of plastic, so it should be turned carefully

  2. If the handle is loose, tighten the exposed screws with a screwdriver or screwdriver. If the handle is stiff, loosen the fastening in the same way.

    For double-leaf structures, the handles are adjusted one by one

  3. After adjustment, reinstall the protective insert. If tightening the screws does not eliminate the play in the connection, then there is a crack in the handle body. In this case, you cannot do without purchasing new accessories.

Setting the correct position of the hinges

The hinges of plastic doors are adjusted in two directions: vertically and horizontally. Vertical adjustment is described in the paragraph on adjusting the door leaf height. Therefore, let us consider the process of horizontal regulation.

  1. Open the door and remove the screws from all hinges using a 3mm hex key.
  2. Remove decorative overlays to get to the adjusting screws.
  3. Turn the screws on all hinges the same number of turns.

The maximum amount of horizontal adjustment is 2–3 mm

How to adjust the lock on a plastic door

A door made of polyvinyl chloride is characterized by a multi-layer structure, different from the structure of glass or wooden doors. Therefore, castles have their own characteristics and nuances. Installation door lock For a plastic door, it is better to entrust it to professionals, and making small adjustments is a feasible task for doing it yourself. The most widely used PVC doors for entrance and interior doors are: mortise locks, and for balconies - latches on rollers.

The plan for restoring the lock's functionality depends on the type of mechanism.

  1. For mortise locks, adjustment consists of tightening the screws installed on the main and auxiliary (mating) parts of the lock. The right tool- crosshead screwdriver. After tightening, you need to check the lock to ensure that its parts match each other. To do this, close the door and make sure that the tongue fits into the groove on the counter.

    The mortise lock for a plastic door has special screws with which you can adjust it

  2. For balcony latches, adjustment is carried out by tightening the screw located above the latch with a 4 mm hex key. To loosen the pressure of the protruding part of the latch to the mating part, the key is turned clockwise, to strengthen the pressure - counterclockwise.

    To adjust the latch, it is enough to perform no more than two turns of the hex head screw

Adjusting double-leaf plastic doors

Double-leaf plastic doors are mostly installed at the entrance to the building, and in new houses with an improved layout they frame the entrance area of the balcony. Required condition their installation - width doorway must be at least 90 cm. Structurally, such a door consists of a “leading” and “slave” leaf. The first, movable, is equipped with a handle and locking fittings, and the second is fixed and opens if necessary. The pin mechanism is responsible for locking and unlocking the “driven” sash.

The frame is always installed on the passive sash

Adjusting a door with two leaves is not fundamentally different from a single door, with the exception of adjusting the hinge. Depending on the nature of the problem, the adjustment consists of performing the following steps.

Is it possible to do without adjusting the door?

According to the experience of many people, the question of adjusting a plastic door arises when a real problem appears. Is it possible to prevent this phenomenon? Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely avoid adjustment, but there are several factors that influence its frequency. Among them we will highlight the main ones.

  1. The correct choice of hinges has a significant influence on the sagging of the door. Depending on the weight of the structure, there are hinges designed for a load of 80 kg or 160 kg. The heavier the fabric, the more loops there should be. The average value of the loop operation cycle is 200 thousand openings and closings.
  2. A reliable way to avoid sagging of a plastic door is to install a microlift. It consists of a movable strip mounted on the door leaf, and a fixed one mounted on the frame. When the door is closed, both parts engage, slightly lifting the door leaf and reducing the load on the hinges.

    The use of a microlift extends the service life of hinges, handles and seals

  3. The fittings need to be lubricated several times a year. To do this, under no circumstances should you use improvised means ( vegetable oil, Vaseline, margarine). It is best to apply mineral, synthetic oil or special compounds for PVC windows and doors to the rubbing mechanisms.

    In the case of liquid lubricant, it is enough to pour 2-3 drops of oil into the mechanism

  4. Wind protection is provided by rubber elements. For good clamping, the seal must be cleaned of dirt and coated with a silicone pencil. This preserves the elasticity of the rubber bands.

    Seal care products should not contain aggressive substances

Installing a plastic door is a simple and effective way to make a room feel cozy and increase noise and heat insulation. But all PVC doors sag over time under their own weight, so they need periodic adjustment. If you feel that the door has become difficult to open or let through cold air, then you shouldn’t panic and call a locksmith. If the door is not under warranty, then by carefully studying the adjustment instructions, you can independently restore the functionality of this structure.

The main symptom of this malfunction is drafts in the room even with the sash tightly closed, although the cracks are easy to detect visually. There are several probable reasons.

As a rule, the result of incorrect selection of material in size.
But provided it is in the correct position, without distortions.

  • The hinges differ in design, and some models are collapsible. In this case, it is advisable to dismantle both the sash and the canopy. It will take more time, but cleaning it components will be of the highest quality.
  • In old-style hinges, creaking may be caused by extreme wear of the sealing washer. The recommendation is clear - replace it.

It remains to add that if there is a cheap door“made in China”, then adjustment may not help. Soft metal is often deformed, which causes squeaks, snags on the frame, and similar malfunctions. Even professionals do not undertake to eliminate them and recommend changing the canvas. And although this is an extreme case, you need to know.
