What kind of doors to the bathroom? Let's figure out which door to put in the bathroom: how to combine practicality and style. Plastic doors to the bathroom

The door to the bathroom should correspond to the specifics of the room and please the eye. It is better to install doors with PVC film or veneered doors with good varnish; a budget but practical option is plastic bathroom doors. Whatever door you choose, make sure you have a good hood. What else you need to know when choosing a door for a bathroom you will learn from this article.

The choice of door to the bathroom is determined by the design features of the room

It just so happens that bathrooms are usually the last thing to be renovated, when both material and moral resources are already fairly depleted. Meanwhile, the bathroom requires a special, very careful attitude to literally all the details, because it has a number of features, both constructive and operational. The first detail of the interior that immediately attracts attention is the door, including the door to the bathroom. So, let's try to decide which doors to install in the bathroom.

Having studied the opinions of experts and consumers, we can conclude that the starting point of your thoughts will be the layout of the bathroom: its dimensions (footage), the location of water sources (shower, taps) in relation to the door, the degree of tightness of the shower, i.e. What is it insulated with: a banal oilcloth curtain or a shower stall, for example.

If your bathroom is spacious to the point where you can take several steps, for example, the shower, bathtub and sink are at the other end of the room, and the shower stall is an enclosed box, then your choice of bathroom door is completely unlimited.

The situation becomes more complicated if the bathroom is close to the “Soviet standard”: step to the right - step to the left and that’s it. The door to such a bathroom must be chosen carefully, because humid air and temperature changes are a serious threat to its performance

Materials for bathroom doors: universal and not so universal

First of all, let's pay attention to the materials. A win-win option would be a door made of glass. A glass door is not afraid of anything at all, especially since it is usually made of heavy-duty, tempered glass. Looks great because... frosted glass, sprayed, fusing or stained glass. But this beauty is not for everyone, especially because of the very decent price.

  • Plastic doors for bathrooms

Plastic doors are easy to use in bathrooms; they are also not subject to adverse influences, they are lightweight, reliable, do not require special care, are quite durable and, importantly, their cost is low. If you are confused by the somewhat formal appearance of such a door (they are mostly white, although other colors can be found on the modern market), you can pay attention to the ideal solution to the problem of choosing a door to the bathroom.

We are talking about doors coated with PVC film, which perfectly protects the door from splashes, steam, scratches, is quite environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic. Today this is one of the highest quality and deservedly popular coatings. Doors coated with PVC film do not deform, are extremely practical and comfortable to use, and are easy to care for using any detergent (but it is better to avoid abrasive ones). The undeniable advantage of these doors is their magnificent appearance, since the coating perfectly imitates the texture of any natural wood and allows you to shape the interior of your home in one key. The price is very, very attractive.

  • Laminate

"Close Relative" PVC doors– laminated door covered with laminated film. The quality characteristics also allow these doors to be installed in bathrooms. Laminate is practically indistinguishable from natural wood and is resistant to external influences and washes well. The cost classifies these doors as economy class. Such a door is not afraid of temperature changes, will serve you for a very long time and will be like new. Inexpensive laminated doors- economy class doors are presented in a large assortment in our store.

  • Eco-veneer

Eco veneer - modern material, characterized by high wear resistance. At the same time, the aesthetic properties of Eco-veneer also deserve special attention. Production technology allows you to reproduce the structure natural wood, while avoiding the disadvantages of natural material. Manufactured using “edgeless technology”, such doors do not have an edge, making them less susceptible to moisture. Pay attention to the special series of doors coated with Eco-veneer -. Materials and special production technologies make these doors resistant to moisture and high temperatures. An ideal choice for the bathroom!

  • Veneer

When choosing a door to a bathroom, you should not discount veneered doors covered with a thin layer of valuable wood. Modern manufacturers ensure the reliability and practicality of this type of door using high-tech impregnation by special means and varnishing the surface with several layers of varnish (be sure to make sure that the model you like definitely has these qualities). All of the above is also true for solid wood doors. However, in both cases, the price of such a door is not affordable for everyone.

But no matter what door you choose for the bathroom, remember that you must thoroughly ventilate the room. Even the most moisture-resistant coating may not withstand exposure to large amounts of water.

The diverse offerings of the modern market make the task of choosing a bathroom door complex, responsible and exciting. In order not to be disappointed in the purchase, it is wiser to seek help from professional consultants who will help you choose the door that is ideal for your bathroom. The most popular bathroom door models are presented below. We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the full catalog: interior doors, the prices for which and the huge selection will definitely please you.

Choosing doors to an apartment is an important and integral stage of renovation. If, when purchasing interior floors, they rely mainly on visual appeal, originality of color scheme and decorative finishing, personal taste and wallet, then when choosing a door for a bathroom and toilet, performance properties become the most important criterion. This is due to the fact that in addition to external beauty, compliance with the overall design of the room, and the quality of the fabric, the door to the bathroom must be moisture-resistant, withstand temperature changes and the accumulation of condensation. In addition, the product must maintain the privacy of the room.

Material selection

Regardless of whether you choose an interior door or a bathroom ceiling, the types of products differ in the material from which they are made.

  • Solid wood;
  • Veneer;

  • Ecoshopon;
  • Laminate;
  • Plastic (PVC);
  • Glass.

A popular type of material for door production is MDF panels. They are universal: suitable for any room, available in a huge variety color options, can be decorated with glass or mirror inserts. The advantage is acceptable average price and high resistance to external influences. Among the disadvantages, the tendency of MDF to accumulate moisture is often cited, but the presence of sufficient ventilation in the bathroom will not allow the ceiling to deform due to this. For the bathroom and toilet, a facade of a product with a laconic finish is usually selected that does not distract attention from the main design of the room (tiles, plumbing, furniture).

Doors are environmentally friendly solid wood. Despite the rather high cost, such models are very popular: they are durable, reliable, visually attractive, and do not require additional finishing or elaborate decorations. Larch, oak, and beech are suitable for use in the bathroom. Pine is excluded: due to its low resistance to moisture and temperature fluctuations, such a canvas will quickly swell, deform and become unusable.

The above types of wood, coated with wax or varnish, acquire moisture-repellent properties and are quite suitable as ceilings for bathrooms and toilets. To maintain the visual appeal and increase the service life of the door, it requires careful care.

An alternative to wooden doors are veneered panels. Veneer is a thin sheet of wood glued onto a fiberboard sheet, while maintaining the natural color and structure of the wood, the structure itself becomes lighter, and the price is lower. Due to its natural origin, veneer is very sensitive to moisture and temperature changes. Most manufacturers of veneer doors do not recommend using such structures in rooms with humidity more than 60% and a maximum temperature above 35 degrees Celsius.

Eco-veneer, unlike its natural counterpart, is artificial material, only imitating the pattern and relief of wood. In fact, it is a multilayer plastic, characterized by wear resistance, impact resistance, and moisture resistance. This material is perfect for the bathroom. A door made of eco-veneer does not require complicated maintenance and can withstand changes in temperature and humidity conditions. In addition, there is a clear advantage over natural veneer there will be a lower cost.

Not all laminated doors are suitable for the bathroom, but only those in the production of which a special durable polyvinyl chloride film with a thickness of more than 0.5 mm or double-chrome laminate was used.

Such canvases are inexpensive, easy to install, and easy to maintain. Cheaper products are covered with cellulose and impregnated with resins, which is not environmentally friendly, short-lived and absolutely not moisture resistant.

An excellent option for the bathroom would be plastic door or a door made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is light, durable, non-flammable, and due to the substances included in the plastic, it is resistant to mold and mildew. Among other things, it does not absorb moisture and is resistant to condensation. To increase the elasticity of the material and prevent deformation, plastic doors are equipped with an aluminum profile. It is a mistake to believe that the color scheme plastic products limited: today the range is quite wide, options with glass inserts are also possible.

Stylish element interior can become glass doors. Despite their high cost, their advantages are obvious: they are elegant in appearance, have high environmental friendliness, moisture resistance, and wear resistance. An aluminum profile that is rigid, does not allow deformation, and is resistant to corrosion can be used as a frame for the door structure. When choosing such a door, you should pay attention to the external surface coating, which would protect against condensation. If there are children in the family, the glass door must be strengthened using armor film.

A glass door is perfect for a shower niche in a bathroom. As a rule, they are made from heat-treated glass. A special charm can be given to a glass product by various color pigments used in the manufacture of the canvas, decorative textured film or varying degrees of dullness and translucency.

Not only a designer, but also a simple craftsman ordinary apartment It will be possible to create a unique and at the same time practical and comfortable interior with a glass door without any particular difficulties.

Kinds

Doors to the bathroom and toilet differ in their design features. It is worth dwelling on the advantages and disadvantages of various models.

  • Swing. Well-known classic swing structures have a number of positive qualities: standard sizes, ease of installation, a huge selection of finishing options, affordable price. A separate issue is the use of a threshold, which increases the heat and sound insulation properties of the door. A significant disadvantage may be the lack of free space. If saving space in the apartment is a priority, you should take a closer look at other options for interior flooring.

  • Sliding and coupe. Sliding doors and sliding doors are essentially similar: when opened, they move to the side. The difference is that the coupe has one leaf, and the sliding structure consists of two halves. Sliding systems on casters will stylishly and originally complement the interior of the room, saving space near the bathroom. But when installing doors of this type, it is necessary to ensure that there are no sockets, shelves or hooks along the wall. In addition, the impossibility of installing a threshold for such structures is a critical drawback, because it reduces heat permeability and sound insulation.

  • Folding. Ergonomically organize narrow space A folding door near the bathroom will help. They are available in two versions: "accordion" (3 or more parts) or "book" (two parts). This design solution does not require free space either near the door or near the wall; however, when folded, the structure leaves a fairly narrow space inside the doorway for entering and exiting the room. This is due to poor sound insulation and the rare presence of high-quality models of such doors in retail outlets.

Don’t forget about the decorative qualities of bathroom doors. To ensure a harmonious combination with the interior of an apartment or house, you can use mirrored or glass inserts. A bathroom is not complete without a mirror, and if you place one on the door, you will be able to visually expand the usually cramped bathroom space.

When choosing an all-glass door, it is logical to use a frosted or tinted panel to ensure the privacy of the room. Matte folding doors also look original.

Dimensions

It is a mistake to believe that the dimensions of the doorway to the bathroom are not particularly important. Undoubtedly, the bathroom is a room with complex operational characteristics. Constant temperature changes, high humidity, accumulation of condensation and steam, as well as a number of other negative factors negatively affect finishing materials, including the door frame. The protection of residential premises from the spread of dampness, microorganisms, and mold depends on its quality, so it is necessary to pay due attention to the competent selection of the size of the interior flooring to ensure quality home care. In accordance with accepted standards, dimensions interior openings must have the same dimensions. The height of the product is 2 m, and the width can be different: 60 cm, 70 cm, 80 cm, 90 cm. Wider doorways are non-standard according to GOST.

Narrow openings (60cm) are typical for typical Soviet buildings of the Khrushchev type. In new buildings, most often the width of the doorway is 70-80cm, taking into account the installation needs of residents household appliances, plumbing, metal and decorative elements that simply cannot “fit” into narrower openings. Installation of modern plumbing equipment, such as a shower cabin or Jacuzzi, often requires a wider door (80-90 cm).

The use of canvas wider than 90 cm is justified only in exceptional cases of design ideas in large spacious houses. IN standard apartment such a wide door overlap disrupts the comfort and overall harmony of a small bathroom.

Color

To create a harmonious design of a living space, you need to carefully choose the color of the door panels. It is generally accepted to install all interior ceilings in an apartment of the same color. This approach is classic: plain doors will not disrupt the aesthetics of the room, will succinctly fit into the overall style and will not attract undue attention. It is allowed to use two shades of doors in the interior, but for the toilet and bathroom you should in any case choose the same colors.

  • Over many years of use in bathroom design, white doors have proven themselves perfectly. They are universal for any size room: in small apartments or spacious houses, snow-white doors will create an atmosphere of cleanliness, freshness and neatness, harmonizing with the color of the plumbing. Due to the fact that white color does not form clear contours and seems to radiate with light, a feeling of comfort is created in any area.

  • Coated doors are considered one of the most attractive and in high demand. amber oak. Among the huge assortment door designs they have an elegant aristocratic design and will fit into various style solutions.
  • Ideal for modern interior door dark color. Against the overall light background of the bathroom decoration, a wenge-colored door will become an expressive accent. Attractive models with glass or mirror inserts will add a touch of luxury to even the most neutral design. A solid door leaf in black or dark brown shades will help organize the space, making it more geometric and laconic.

  • Helps create a mood colorful door. It is appropriate to bring a touch of dynamism and brightness to the bathroom design, because this is where the mood for the whole day occurs in the morning and moments of relaxation in the evening. A bright element will help cheer you up and lift your spirits. The strict design of the bathroom allows you to experiment: sea wave, bright crimson, turquoise– the shade chosen to suit your taste can be successfully integrated into the overall idea. Double door – perfect choice, if you are confused by the question of how a rich door will look in the corridor. On the one hand, the facade complements the interior of the bathroom, and on the other, the corridor.

Design

After choosing a color, you can think about additional decor for the doors. The finishing can include inserts made of wood, plastic, metal, glass, or in the form of a mosaic and sandblasted pattern. Each door to the bathroom and toilet can be unique and inimitable in its own way. At making the right choice they will add a sense of elegance and sophistication to the space.

Connoisseurs non-standard solutions in the decoration of the apartment you will be interested in the use case hidden doors, with the help of which you can distract attention or completely hide any room, including the bathroom, from prying eyes. Inconspicuousness is achieved thanks to the ability to process the facade side to match any texture, style and color of the walls of the room. You can easily apply plain paint or part of a landscape to such doors, or cover them with wallpaper (rolled, washable, paintable, photo wallpaper).

The option of finishing with tiles is possible if the entrance to the bathroom is located on the side of the tiled kitchen. A similar solution applies to veneer and other decorative materials. A secret door will fit harmoniously into a minimalist style room, because it does not stand out against the background of the walls or looks only like a decorative element.

For creative housewives who always want something special, you can suggest decorating the bathroom door yourself using the decoupage technique. This best option for those who love handicrafts, but do not want to overpay for expensive decor. Interesting pictures or patterns are cut out of paper, most often from napkins, to form a panel, which is then glued onto the surface to be decorated. The resulting picture can be complemented by decoration with available materials such as beads, beads and the like. With a certain amount of imagination, perseverance and skill, you can create a real masterpiece that will surprise and delight guests and household members with its originality.

Which one is better to choose?

Considering the characteristics of the premises, to prevent the formation of condensation, mildew and mold, it is worth thinking about ventilation. If natural ventilation is not enough, you can provide for the presence of special grilles in the door leaf itself, or (a less desirable option) install them after. Additionally, a hood is often installed in the bathroom to provide air exchange: warm air comes out, and a cold one takes its place.

When choosing which door to install in the bathroom, you need to know that correct opening and closing is guaranteed only when purchasing the product complete with a frame. If you have a choice hinged door, which is characterized by the complete absence of a bottom guide, remember the need for high-quality fittings, because the comfort and safety of using the structure directly depends on it.

Remember that an undoubted advantage in the form of ease of installation of this type retractable door may not be all that valuable given the short lifespan of the system as a whole. If you use standard interior doors for a bathroom, supposedly simplifying the task of choosing, you can significantly overpay after 3-4 years, when an ill-chosen door that does not meet the characteristics of the room becomes unusable and will have to be replaced again.

For fans of stylish unique interiors When choosing mirrored doors for a bathroom, let us remind you that they can not only be flat, but also have a round shape. You can emphasize the uniqueness of the room design by using a design in accordance with the geometric features of the bathroom doorway.

Replacing doors in a home is a serious undertaking that requires a balanced approach. Particular attention should be paid to wet areas. Not all materials can be used there. Choosing doors for the bathroom and toilet is far from easy, as many nuances must be taken into account.

Requirements

Doors to the bathroom and toilet are chosen not only by appearance. It is also necessary to take into account their properties. High humidity is not uncommon in bathrooms, so moisture resistance is important characteristic. Equally important is good tolerance of wet cleaning. This is another selection criterion. Durability and reliability are also important. Properties such as sound insulation and low thermal conductivity are also important. In the bathroom we feel comfortable at a higher temperature, and it is easier to create it with a door that has good thermal insulation ability.

There are also technical nuances. According to building standards, doors to the bathroom and toilet can be made narrower than those to living quarters. This is exactly the situation in apartment buildings. In private houses and cottages, this rule is rarely followed, and even during renovations, or often, doorways are also made of normal sizes.

There is another nuance. Good ventilation is required to quickly remove moist air. It can be natural or forced (with a fan), but for it to work well, there must be an influx into the bathroom fresh air. To open access to air, the door leaf is made 1.5-2 cm shorter, leaving a gap in the floor area. This only sounds scary, but in practice this gap is almost invisible. The second way to ensure air flow is through special ventilation grilles that are built into the door leaf. And the third - supply holes in the wall. Of all the options, it is the idea with a gap near the floor that is least striking. It is also the easiest to implement.

What kind of doors are there for bathrooms and toilets?

Even the most ordinary doors are installed in the bathroom and toilet - wooden or paneled (wooden frame with plywood inserts), painted. With well-functioning ventilation, they serve well, but few people like them. That’s why they prefer to replace them with new, more modern ones.

Wooden and veneered

Solid wood doors are undoubtedly beautiful, but they are also expensive. They are placed in damp rooms if they are covered with a layer of varnish. In this case, manufacturers usually indicate in the description that they are “waterproof.” Provided you use a good varnish and apply it correctly, the coating protects against moisture and washes well. If necessary, the varnish layer can be renewed, although this operation will not be required soon.

Veneered doors are made from inexpensive low-grade wood, and then covered with veneer of expensive species. Veneer is a thin cut of wood - several millimeters thick. The presence of glue makes veneer doors not entirely “natural”, but at the same time protects the wood from swelling. However, veneered doors for bathrooms and toilets are not the best choice, because the veneer is not airtight, moisture penetrates into the slightest cracks, causing the surface to warp and the veneer begins to peel off.

Wooden doors - expensive and beautiful

Not so long ago, doors trimmed with Euro veneer appeared. This is a new material consisting of wood and a binder. Wood fibers dyed in different colors are mixed with a synthetic binder. This mixture is pressed through a powerful press and comes out in the form of a tape. In appearance, the resulting material is practically indistinguishable from natural veneer, and surpasses it in performance properties. Doors finished with Euro veneer are not afraid of high humidity; the coating has a high mechanical strength and does not fade in the sun. You can distinguish them by touch - the coating is too smooth.

If we talk about other characteristics, it can be noted that wooden and veneered doors for the bathroom and toilet have low thermal conductivity and provide good protection from noise. They tolerate wet cleaning, but soft cloth and without aggressive detergents.

Plastic and metal-plastic

Plastic doors to the bathroom are an economical option. They are inexpensive, are not at all afraid of water in any condition, and are not deformed by high humidity. Their disadvantages are that they are made from unnatural raw materials; inexpensive models have low mechanical strength. It is also worth remembering that they cannot, like doors made of wood or veneer, be “adjusted” to the desired size.

Plastic - good material for wet rooms

Metal-plastic doors are rarely installed in apartment bathrooms. But not because they are not suitable in quality. Rather, they are not used for aesthetic reasons - their appearance is very different. If doors made of other materials are installed in other rooms, it is very difficult to choose a more or less suitable color. Another limiting factor is the high price. And the characteristics - you can't imagine better.

Glass

Glass is not very popular as a door, but it has good characteristics. It does not react to water and high humidity, does not rot and can be washed as much as you like. They have one drawback - fragility, but modern technologies have overcome this - the glass is made tempered, which gives it increased strength. There is also laminated glass (duplex and triplex). This is when sheets of glass are glued with reinforcing film.

It is possible to break a glass door leaf, but it is difficult to do, and if this happens, the glass breaks into many small fragments with smooth, rather than sharp, edges. In the case of laminated glass, the fragments hang on the film, and the tempered glass simply breaks into small fragments, but you have to try hard to get injured by such fragments. The only trouble from such an event is the need to buy a new door.

Glass door leaf can be colored

Glass doors for the bathroom and toilet are made opaque. They are tinted, can be mirror-coated or stained glass. All that is visible through such doors is a blurred silhouette and no specifics. In general, a good option if there are no small children in the family.

Laminated and PVC

Another inexpensive option bathroom doors are laminated with film. The door leaf itself is made according to frame technology. The frame is made of pine timber, the gaps are filled soundproofing material(the cheapest - corrugated cardboard, more expensive - polyurethane foam), then sheathed with laminated fiberboard or MDF. The surface of the door can be decorated to look like wood, or it can be smooth (this is much less common).

The door leaf is light, but does not withstand shock loads very well. With good lamination quality, such a door to the bathroom and toilet is not afraid of moisture, and can be washed well (with a damp soft cloth and liquid non-aggressive detergents). As long as the lamination remains intact, it looks quite decent. With intensive use, the film wears off and the appearance noticeably deteriorates.

PVC bathroom doors are made using the same technology. The only difference is that the frame is covered with extruded PVC. The density and strength of PVC is many times higher, so the durability is also higher. Performance is also better: vinyl is not afraid of water in any form, so this is a great option for the bathroom and toilet.

Combined

When they say combined doors, they most often mean that they have inserts of a different material. And most often these are glass inserts. Glass sizes can vary greatly. This could be a narrow strip along one edge or a large piece that covers half the door. Glass is also used opaque, tempered or laminated. If the glass in the model you like is too transparent, you can stick a self-adhesive stained glass or translucent film on it.

Combined options are the most interesting in terms of design

Glass inserts are made in wooden, metal-plastic and veneered doors. Less often - in MDF and almost never - in plastic. But the most interesting models in terms of design are found in this category - there is more room for imagination.

Opening systems

In addition to different materials, doors for the bathroom and toilet can have different types opening. Our usual option is swing doors. They are good for everyone except that when open they cover a significant amount of space.

Becoming more and more popular in Lately. This is when a rod is attached to the top of the door, rollers are placed on the door leaf, and the doors roll along this rod. Depending on the method of installation of the guide, sliding doors can be open or hidden. Open - when the bar is attached to the wall on one side, and the canvas runs along the wall. With a hidden system, a niche is made in the wall into which the door leaf slides.

The second option, when open, takes up almost no space, but during installation it requires serious intervention in the wall structure, which is not always possible. It is unlikely to succeed in concrete or even brick partition hollow out a niche the right size. Then, in order to hide the canvas, a false wall is built from plasterboard.

The disadvantage of sliding doors is that installation is more complex, and open systems- low degree of sound insulation (the canvas simply hangs along the doorway, leaving large gaps). Hidden systems are better in this regard - they have a door frame with a groove into which the door leaf fits and a seal in this groove. Such systems have good sound insulation, but are expensive.

Folding - accordion (right) and book (left)

Another view. There are two types - “book” and “accordion”. Book doors have a door leaf consisting of several parts. These parts are movably connected; when opened, they fold, resembling a book. Accordion doors have a similar structure, but they fold differently: relative to an axis running through the center. Book doors are often made of glass, they can also be made of MDF or plastic; accordion doors are often made of plastic and they cost little.

One of the factors that significantly influence the visual perception of the interior is interior doors - doors for the bathroom and toilet are especially important, since in addition to their beautiful appearance, they must have high performance characteristics.

Below in the article we will talk specifically about the doors with which plumbing rooms are equipped. I will tell you which products to choose so that they not only please the eye, but also serve you reliably for many years.

Types of products

I believe that doors for the bathroom and toilet should be different from the designs for living rooms of one important feature– possibility of operation in conditions of high humidity. However, this, of course, is not the only criterion by which they should be selected.

All existing on domestic market For convenience, I divided the designs into several groups according to certain criteria. And I depicted all this on a small diagram:

By material

The first thing you should think about is the material from which the interior doors are made. After all, all other operational properties directly depend on this.

Here are some of the most common options.

Plastic

Plastic doors for toilets and bathrooms are distinguished by increased performance properties and perform well in conditions of high humidity and significant temperature fluctuations. The plastic used for their manufacture is not subject to biocorrosion and shrinkage, does not change its size depending on air temperature, and withstands the effects of aggressive detergents, water vapor and jets of water.

  • light weight – the design does not require powerful strapping for installation and closes with little effort;
  • reliability - the plastic itself and the fittings used retain their performance characteristics for ten years;
  • practicality - due to its low porosity, the plastic does not retain dirt, and small drops of water or dust can be easily wiped off with a sponge.

An important feature that I want to mention separately is the high sound absorption coefficient and good heat-retaining properties. The door leaf limits the spread of noise from running water and prevents unproductive heat loss from the bathroom.

The surface of the door can be painted in one color or imitate other materials (for example, wood). The surface does not require additional finishing (varnishing, painting). The decorative properties of the coating are maintained throughout the entire service life.

However, despite all the designers’ tricks, a plastic door is inferior in its aesthetic qualities alternative options. And this, in my opinion, is the only drawback of the product. But, low price everything pays off.

Glass

Glass doors to the bathroom and toilet look very impressive and beautiful. And the performance characteristics of this material are excellent. Glass is not afraid of direct contact with liquid, significant temperature fluctuations and exposure to water vapor.

Glass doors do not change their geometric parameters during operation, they do not mold and do not cause harm to the human body (they have a zero level of emission of harmful substances).

For the manufacture of the described products, special tempered glass is used, which is able to withstand significant mechanical loads (including impact) without destruction. Even if you manage to break the canvas, it will fall into small crumbs and will not cause injury.

Despite very high technical characteristics, glass doors are not often used to equip sanitary facilities. The fact is that they have a specific appearance and are not combined with all interior styles.

But I can tell you that a glass door is not just a transparent sheet. I have come across such models from different manufacturers:

  • with tinted surface;
  • with canvas of varying degrees of transparency;
  • frosted doors;
  • products with texture, coating, relief pattern or carving;
  • with a mirror surface.

Doors in which glass is combined with other materials - wood, plastic, metal and so on - look very beautiful.

But the main property of a glass door, in my opinion, is the ability to visually increase space, which is important for sanitary facilities in city apartments. And caring for them is simple - just wipe them dry with a cloth.

But the price leaves much to be desired. Get ready to pay a lot of money for such a design. Although there are also models (for example, produced by GlassStroy), the cost of which starts from 12 thousand rubles.

Wood

Wood has always been an excellent material for making interior doors. And such products are suitable for any interior style. But classic models from solid wood not suitable for arrangement doorways in bathrooms and toilets, since the material does not tolerate use in humid air, quickly rots, deforms and loses its original attractive appearance.

In order to increase the service life of structures, manufacturers use dense wood species (for example, oak, beech), as well as various decorative compositions(varnishes, paints), which impart hydrophobic properties to surfaces. However, in this case too wooden crafts require special care and constant updating protective coatings and so on.

In my opinion, it is necessary to buy and install wooden doors only if required design project. In all other cases, their use is unjustified, especially considering the very high cost of the products described.

As an alternative, by the way, there are products on the market made from laminated wooden slabs, which look like wood but cost less. And their performance characteristics are better.

MDF and chipboard

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in my opinion, this is the most common option in our country. Such doors are made of particle boards or fiber boards, the surface of which is protected by a laminated layer that prevents them from getting wet.

The performance characteristics of MDF doors are quite high. They tolerate operation well in humid air, at high temperatures and are not destroyed by direct contact with liquid. And their price and wide range leave no room for doubt.

The appearance and technical characteristics of doors made of laminated wood slabs largely depend on the type of coating used. So it's time to talk about it.

By type of coverage

So, what coatings exist that protect wood, and mainly chipboard and MDF doors– from the destructive effects of the microclimate in the bathroom. In my daily activities I came across the following options:

  1. Laminate, laminate (CPL). Decorative and protective coating, which is essentially a special paper coated with waterproof varnish. Laminate differs from laminate in improved performance properties - resistance to wear and appearance.

Laminated doors are very cheap, but I personally cannot guarantee their operation for more than one year. Especially if they are constantly exposed to steam and water. Therefore, buy models with CPL film.

The big advantage of such products is the uniformity of colors and shades. Therefore, if one of your doors becomes unusable, it can be easily replaced. At the same time, in appearance it will not differ from its neighbor (after all, the doorways to the bathroom and toilet in apartments are usually located nearby).

  1. Eco-veneer and PVC. Both named varieties are films of their polymers and are very popular as materials for decorating the surfaces of bathroom doors. They are characterized by increased moisture and wear resistance.

Polyvinyl chloride film tolerates external conditions better than others mechanical influences, however, it is characterized by low environmental friendliness, since during operation it releases chlorides (although the level of their emission is within the established standards).

As for eco-veneer, it began to be used not so long ago, but is gaining increasing popularity. The latter is due to high environmental qualities (zero emissions of harmful substances) and excellent appearance. Eco-veneer imitates wood not only in color, but also in feel. However, it should not be confused with natural veneer.

  1. Veneer. This natural coating is the most environmentally friendly, has an excellent appearance, but is also quite expensive (when compared with the analogues listed above). It is a very thin layer valuable wood, which is glued to the particle board.

A veneered door is more similar to wood than others, but unlike solid wood products, it has improved moisture resistance, excellent heat resistance, lighter weight and a lower price.

Another point that needs to be mentioned is the impossibility of using such a door in a place where water can get on it. In extreme cases, the surface must be additionally treated with a water-repellent varnish, which will prevent liquid from penetrating into the thickness of the glued board.

  1. Varnish or enamel. This type of decorative coating is suitable for doors made of any materials, but is currently practically not used, since the appearance of such structures leaves much to be desired.

However, an enamel-coated door is well protected from moisture and can be easily repaired. If damage to the decorative layer is detected, you simply need to paint or varnish the surface of the door (or part of it) again.

By design

Now let's decide on design features. After all, not all products are made from a whole piece of wood or a single glued board. And here are the options:

  1. Panel doors. Structurally, they are a frame made of wooden blocks, upholstered on both sides with MDF sheets. The empty internal space is filled with porous material, which increases the sound and heat insulation properties of the product. The advantage of this solution is a very low price, but the quality is at the proper level. Such doors are not subject to deformation throughout their entire service life.

  1. Paneled doors. One of the most popular designs, which was invented several centuries ago and is still used today. A paneled door consists of a frame around the perimeter, stiffening ribs for its ties (middles) and panels inserted into the space between frame elements. These doors are more expensive and weigh more, but they retain their characteristics better in conditions of high humidity and constant temperature fluctuations.

  1. Tsar doors. Structurally, they consist of two vertical beams connected horizontally by several transverse frames. They differ from other species in their interesting appearance. Usually different numbers of drawers are used different shapes and sizes. And between them other decorative materials are often inserted - glass, metal, and so on.

  1. Molded doors. They consist of two elements - molded posts around the perimeter of the door leaf and large glass area inserted into the middle. The transparent element is a safe multi-layer structure that can have different colour, transparency and texture. Molded doors have low sound insulation, but fit perfectly into toilets, which is the reason for their high popularity.

  1. Solid doors. They are made from a single sheet of any material. I have come across such doors made of solid wood and glass. Typically, this category contains very expensive exclusive products made to order.

By opening method

This is one of the most important criteria choice because it greatly influences the ease of daily use. I will highlight the most common varieties:

  1. Swing. The principle of operation is clear from the name. When closed, the swing flap fits snugly to the frame, so it well insulates living spaces from moisture and noise in the bathroom. In addition, it eliminates the formation of drafts in the plumbing room.

The disadvantage of this design, in my opinion, is the need for free space for the movement of the sash.

  1. Sliding (compartment doors). In this case, the door leaf does not swing open in one direction or another, but moves to the right or left. This design allows you to significantly save space in the apartment, but has several significant disadvantages.

First of all, it is poor sound and heat insulation. The door does not fit tightly to the frame, so drafts may appear inside the bathroom, and steam and warm air will escape outside. In addition, your singing in the shower will disturb your loved ones.

Another unobvious disadvantage is the need to arrange a place for moving the canvas. Although it is located along the wall, sometimes it can cause inconvenience. And rollers hidden in the wall often fail due to high levels of humidity or debris.

  1. Folding. This design appeared not so long ago, but is widely used for arranging doorways to bathrooms and toilets. Externally, it is a product whose door leaf consists of several folding segments. The principle of its operation can be seen in more detail in the photo.

The advantage of this product is some space saving, the disadvantage is the unreliability of the fittings, as well as the poor fit of the fabric to the harness. As a result, low sound and heat insulation properties.

  1. Rotary. A new type of door, which, in my opinion, combines all the advantages of swing and folding doors, but is devoid of their disadvantages. The idea is to use special fittings, thanks to which the door leaf first swings open and then is compactly placed along one of the walls.

As a result, you get a product that, when open, takes up a minimum of free space, but when closed, fits tightly to the frame, preventing cold air from penetrating into the bath.

Well, the last criterion that I would like to talk about is the types of handles and latches for doors.

By type of locking hardware

When choosing doors for bathrooms and toilets, special attention should be paid to the purchase of locking hardware. After all, it is unlikely that anyone would want their privacy to be violated when performing hygienic procedures. And sitting on the toilet for several hours because of a stuck latch is also unpleasant.

Here I can recommend several options:

  1. Handle with built-in lock. Most cheap option locking fittings. It is a handle with a latch, the mechanism of which has a built-in lock that holds the tongue in a stationary position (in case you need privacy).

  1. The handle and latch are separate. Such products will also not be too expensive, but the reliability will be higher. The point is that the handle with the tongue is embedded separately from the valve itself. Moreover, the latter can be mortise or overhead (something like a latch from the USSR). The mechanisms will be operated at different rates, which will extend their service life.

  1. Plumbing lock. The most common option, although it costs more than the previous two. In this case, the fittings have one locking tongue, but it is controlled by a handle at the top and a lock at the bottom.

The essence of its operation is similar to the previous version, however, the overall layout increases the reliability of the product. The price of such a device is approximately 3 times higher than the previous version.

Door sizes for sanitary facilities

Geometric parameters (height, width, thickness) of products are selected individually, based on the size of the doorway. There are certain standards that all manufacturers adhere to. The dimensions of classic designs are presented in the table. There I also indicated which doors to install for certain dimensions of the existing doorway.

Door height, cm Opening height, cm Door width, cm Opening width
200 from 205 to 210 40 from 44 to 50
60 from 64 to 70
70 from 74 to 80
80 from 84 to 90
90 from 94 to 100
100 from 104 to 110

The increased dimensions of the doors to the bathroom and toilet relative to the door leaf are due to the fact that interior doors are installed with a frame, which also has certain dimensions.

To determine the size of the door, measure the doorway as follows:

  1. Height. Measured from the floor to the floor beam of the doorway. If the decorative covering on the floor (linoleum, laminate, parquet) has not yet been installed, then it is necessary to make a reserve for this (subtract a certain number of centimeters from the height). It is worth noting here that all doors sold have a standard height, so if the height of the opening is not enough, you will either have to order the door according to individual project, or hammer the wall.
  2. Width. Measured from one edge of the opening to the other. When purchasing a door, remember that the frame (frame) must fit into the opening with a margin of at least 1 cm, which is necessary to seal the structure with polyurethane foam. To determine the required width of the door itself (without the frame), you need to subtract from the resulting value the gap for the foam (10-15 mm) and the thickness of the timber (usually 25 mm * 2 - there will be timber on both sides) from which the door block is made.
  3. Depth. To determine this value you need to measure the thickness interior wall and add to this a certain number of centimeters, which will be spent on decorative finishing (tiles, plaster). If the width of the door frame is not enough, you need to buy additional strips.

Based on my own experience, I want to say that for old apartment, built in the last century (Khrushchev), the standard door size is 60 cm, and for new homes - 70 cm. Additionally, I note that if you are going to install sliding structures, you need to take care of the place where the door will be retracted when open.

One more thing. When choosing doors, make sure that the plumbing equipment you have selected and purchased will fit through them. I have encountered situations where it was impossible to get into the bathroom through a door that was too narrow. washing machine And .

Manufacturers and collections

When deciding which doors to install for a bathroom or toilet, you also need to pay attention to the companies that produce these products. I will tell you about some of them here.

  1. Khales. A Belarusian company that has been producing doors of the highest quality since the fall of 1999. Now this company exports its products to many neighboring countries and Europe.

Currently, the company's assortment consists of 18 models, differing from each other in color, shape, the presence of additional decorative details and other features. All of them are divided into several collections - Renaissance, Modern and Classic.

The average cost of a product is approximately 10 thousand rubles. There are both cheaper and more expensive models.

  1. Art Deco. A factory for the production of interior doors, including those for sanitary facilities, which is located in Ulyanovsk, Russia. It has been working on the domestic market since 2009, but has already managed to establish itself exclusively on the positive side.

The range produced by the company includes a huge number of hinged, sliding and folding models, decorated with natural veneer, eco-veneer and polymer film.

I would especially like to highlight the doors for bathrooms, equipped ventilation grille. Thanks to it, air enters the bathroom and is removed through vent. This helps regulate the microclimate inside and reduces the level of humidity in the room.

The cost of products starts from 4 thousand rubles.

  1. Mariam. A Russian company specializing in the production of interior doors and products for sanitary facilities. The products of this company are of high quality and elegant appearance.

Almost every room in our house is equipped with doors. For ordinary living rooms, their choice does not present much trouble, however, for a shower room it is necessary to select models that meet the specifics of the room. Bathroom and toilet doors are constantly exposed to high humidity. Therefore, interior ceilings must be installed with suitable performance characteristics.

They must withstand temperature changes, lack of ventilation, the negative effects of steam, and microorganisms without any problems. At the same time, doors to the bathroom and toilet must maintain their appearance and perform their direct functions. In addition, it is better to choose interior floors so that they take into account the overall design of the apartment. An additional requirement for doors in the bathroom and toilet is good sound insulation and the ability to retain heat inside the room.

Kinds

The main parameter by which it is better to choose bathroom doors is the material. It is by this criterion that the main conclusions can be drawn regarding the performance properties of the product. In addition, based on the raw materials, the price of the door to the bathroom and toilet is determined. It may be low or affordable to few, however, the main requirement for any model is its high quality. After which the decision is made to purchase doors for the bathroom and toilet.

What kind of ceiling is better to install? Hidden products are definitely not suitable for a shower room. Modern technologies in the mass of doors for the bathroom and toilet make it possible not to have any technical contraindications. The installation of doors to the toilet and bathroom is carried out smoothly, quickly and without any contraindications.

But at the same time, the practicality of the material, design, as well as its service life can vary significantly. Why is it necessary to know the advantages and disadvantages of doors to the toilet and bathroom, i.e. Which interior flooring is better to choose?

Glass

Bathroom doors made of glass allow you to give the room a very original look. This material is not afraid of direct contact with water or constant exposure to moisture, as well as temperature changes. Glass doors to the bathroom and toilet do not deform over time, maintaining their position in the structure. This raw material is environmentally pure product, which does not allow fungus or mold to appear.

Separately, it is worth noting that such doors to the bathroom and toilet can be installed for their sound insulation, as well as their high ability to retain heat.

From the point of view of mechanical load, the material perfectly withstands all the requirements. These bathroom and toilet doors are made using tempered glass, which is highly durable. Thus, it will be very difficult to break it, especially at home. Which glass doors for bathrooms and toilets are best? The first thing you need to pay attention to is its combination with the main design of the house. After which you can select various models

  • based on their color, type, shape or structure. Bathroom doors are available in a wide range. Glass models are:
  • tinted;
  • varying degrees of transparency, matte;
  • with a relief pattern or coating;

and also with a mirror surface.

In addition, products with inserts in the form of wood, mosaic, plastic, metal and sandblasted patterns can be used. Separately, it is worth noting that the entire composition should have a general design appearance for the entire room. Each glass bathroom and toilet door is unique and inimitable in its own way. They bring a feeling of weightlessness and lightness to the space, so the entire interior seems more elegant.

Glass sliding door In addition, glass models retain access to natural light into the shower room. This is especially acute in rooms that are not equipped with windows or do not have access to them. The door to the bathroom and toilet made of glass is easy to maintain; it is enough to periodically wipe it with special products and a regular cloth. The only drawback of the products is the high price. Which model is still worth paying attention to?

Plastic

Plastic bathroom doors are well suited for rooms with difficult operating conditions. These models are not subject to rotting, do not deform over time, and also easily withstand the effects of aggressive environments in the form of temperature changes or steam. The plastic door to the toilet and bath has a whole list of advantages:

  • hygiene;
  • ease;
  • reliability;
  • practicality;
  • durability.

In addition, they are distinguished by their high noise insulation, as well as reliable heat retention. Caring for the products is quite simple, they are easy to clean, and are resistant to aggressive components included in cleaning products. It is worth noting separately that plastic doors to the bathroom and toilet retain their original appearance for a very long time. Model data using modern technologies can imitate any material.

The variety of color schemes for plastic doors for bathrooms and toilets on the domestic market is also quite extensive. In terms of aesthetic properties, PVC products are an order of magnitude inferior to models made of glass or natural materials in the form of wood. But at the same time, their low cost, long service life, and ease of maintenance have resonated with many consumers. What other door can be installed on the bathroom and toilet?

Doors for bathrooms and toilets made of wood always fit almost any design. If you choose wood, it will reciprocate your feelings, as its performance characteristics speak for themselves. Bathroom doors made of wood are often a rather specific solution, because pure wood is resistant to high humidity, contact with water, and exposure to steam. As a result, the material begins to deform and becomes unusable.

Wooden door

However, there are Various types waterproof species that fit perfectly into the design of the room and will serve for many years. Which model is better to choose? Bathroom doors made of ordinary wood with classic installation will require careful weighing, since it is not recommended to leave them without additional protection. You need to calculate all the pros and cons, take into account all the nuances, and then choose which wooden products are best to install.

In this case, the main question is the appropriateness of this choice. What prevails more in it, the desire to improve design or improve performance? Wooden doors for the bathroom and toilet cost a decent amount, regardless of the type of material. Therefore, it is better to approach spending money rationally. So if there is no special need for the design of wooden products, then it is better to install more practical models.

However, if your desire to have wooden doors for the bathroom and toilet is so high, then you should turn to waterproof wood. These wooden floors are mainly made from beech, oak and other types. Doors to the bathroom and toilet are distinguished by high-quality processing, which makes the products more resistant to moisture. The design of the doors for the bathroom and toilet looks very presentable, while the ceiling performs the functions assigned to it.

On a note! The only disadvantage of doors to the bathroom and toilet is the rather high price. Therefore, most buyers usually cannot afford wooden products. Since the performance properties of the models are at the level of plastic or glass, however, their cost is an order of magnitude higher.

Chipboard and MDF

The design of bathroom and toilet doors made of chipboard or MDF is distinguished by its functionality. These structures are covered with a protective layer of laminate. These doors for the bathroom and toilet perform well when interacting with water, high temperature, as well as others negative factors, with which the shower room is connected. These products have affordable price, and a wide range allows you to choose models of any colors and sizes.

Which, in turn, makes it possible to vary the design at your discretion. Chipboard and MDF doors to the bathroom and toilet have several nuances. The first thing you should pay attention to is the veneer covering. It is well suited for the aggressive environment of the shower, so the doors to the bathroom and toilet are made of of this material there will be, by the way. This is possibly due to the unique technology of cross-shaped fiber gluing. Thus, doors for the bathroom and toilet made of MDF and chipboard, made using PVC laminate, are a good choice

for your shower!
