Before us is a small plastic box with a square section of 15 by 15 cm (when viewed from above), 5 cm high. The device looks stylish in a modern way. The top cover is glossy, the sides are soft-touch coated, the case is surrounded by a black plastic strip, in the center of which there is an indicator on the front panel. It shines in green or red from somewhere in the depths of transparent plastic, and when turned off it is inconspicuous. The indicator values do not require special interpretation: green - the media center is working, red - is in sleep mode. When switching between functions and when navigating through menu items, the indicator flashes green. Somewhere near the indicator in the depth of a transparent plastic tape is an IR receiver (for receiving signals from the remote control). Also on the front panel under the indicator we see the logo. That's actually the whole front panel.

All other interface connectors are located at the back of the media center. In general, here is a complete set: (1) a LAN connector for connecting the device to a router via a wired Ethernet connection, (2) an optical S/PDIF-format audio output for transmitting digital audio to external audio devices, an audio receiver or a home theater, (3) second USB port, (4) HDMI output, (5) six tulip connectors, two audio channels and a composite video output at the top, YPbPr component video output at the bottom, (6) DC power supply jack is located closer to the right edge 12V.

Let's take a look at the hard drive. The cover for the hard drive compartment is located at the bottom, it is fixed with two latches, there are no bolts or other fasteners. In our case, a 320GB hard drive is already pre-installed in the media center, but we remind you that the HDD is not included in the basic delivery. This completes the external inspection of the device.
What can an inquisitive eye notice immediately? But, for example, the fact that among the mass of connectors located on the back of the device, we do not see a connector for connecting an ordinary television antenna. Therefore, we can assume that this is not a set-top box, but, apparently, just a media player for storing and playing media content on a television screen. And here we are in for the first surprise: the MOYO media center is both a media player, a storage of media content, and a TV receiver that simply does not need to connect an external television antenna, because it is an interactive set-top box for receiving Internet TV. Actually, Internet television is familiar to us, almost every provider offers digital television services and a set-top box for rent for a fee. Even this is not required here. The MOYO media center only needs Internet access from 2 Mbps on one end and a connection (HDMI or AV cable) to a TV or monitor on the other.
In a nutshell, MOYO is a two-component system consisting of the moyo.tv server part, which relays TV channels, and the client device that we just examined. The client is nothing more than a SmartLabs SML-292 Premium HD decoder (we can see the marking on the back of the device). The modern STi7105 processor provides decoding of H264/VC-1/MPEG2 high-definition video and MPEG 1, 2, MP3, DD/DD+, AAC/AAC+, WMA9/WMA9pro multi-channel audio. But one receiver is not enough, Internet TV broadcasting is carried out from the server side, and, by the way, looking ahead, let's say that at the moment more than 70 TV channels are broadcast in the MOYO basic package, and in addition to just broadcasting, the service provider buffers all TV channels, so the user can, using the buttons on the remote control, “rewind” the broadcast of any channel back to the TV show he missed or pause the rebroadcast TV program, and after a while return to watching. In addition to television channels, the MOYO media center broadcasts Internet radio (we counted 36 radio stations in the basic package), an information channel (weather, exchange rates), Yandex and Google map services, allows you to connect social networks Facebook, Twitter, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, just go online using the built-in browser, and, finally, it supports broadcasts of three online cinemas Megogo, ivi, Tvigle. But we are getting ahead of ourselves a little, but for starters, just turn on the box. We connect the device to the TV with an HDMI cable and turn it on.

When you first turn on the screens, we see a menu, some of the items of which are darkened, i.e. is not available, and only three items “Settings”, “My” and “Devices” open. In this mode, we can use the device as a media player to play content from an internal disk or USB device. But this is only a small fraction of the possibilities of the MOYO media center. Move on.

You can go to the general settings, select the language, time zone, location. But as we understand, while all these are toys, so feel free to go to the "Network Settings" section of the main "Settings" menu. Connecting to the network not only does not require any special knowledge from the user, this procedure can be carried out even by a child of preschool age - the connection is carried out in just five clicks and the whole action takes no more than two minutes.

First, we need to choose a connection method - wired or WiFi. In the case of a wired connection, we plug one end of the cable into the router, the other into the LAN connector on the back of the device. For a wireless WiFi connection, you will need a USB adapter, which is optional for an additional 900 rubles, but we did have an adapter in the kit, and we will use it. You just need to insert it into one of the USB connectors of the media center (it is more convenient to connect the adapter to the connector located at the back in order to leave the side USB port as a secondary one for connecting external USB drives). Then in the "Network Settings Wizard" we select the item "Wireless" and follow on. From the proposed list of found WiFi networks, select the one we need, mark the method for obtaining IP - dynamic or static IP. And - voila! - the process is over, wait a couple of seconds until the media center receives and applies the network settings, after which we are surprised and happy.

The interface has changed before our eyes. Now all menu items are available to us, and most of the main screen is occupied by movie covers from built-in cinemas.

In the "Settings" in the "Personal Account" we have added the main TV package, as we can see, its cost is about RUB. per month. Here, just below the menu items, we can watch the available TV channels, sort them, select and add some to Favorites or hide from the list. As mentioned above, today more than 70 TV channels are available to the MOYO user.

Access to TV broadcasting is carried out by selecting the icon "TV channels" in the menu. At the same time, a thoughtful and convenient interface is displayed on the screen: on the right is a list of TV channels, on the left side of the screen is information about the current broadcast on a particular channel, the name of the movie or TV show, a screenshot, information about the manufacturer, country and year of production, genre, season, presenters and a small announcement. If, when selecting a channel, press the central button of the joystick “OK” on the remote control, then immediately the broadcast of the selected TV channel opens on the entire screen. But! If you press not the “OK” button, but the joystick button with the “Right / Forward” arrow, then the program guide of the selected channel is displayed on the left half instead of the channel list. Thus, we can not only “rewind” the broadcast back to the beginning of the current program, but also select any of the programs that have passed on the channel in the list of TV shows.
If you missed the news or your favorite TV series, then you can quite easily “rewind” the TV broadcast in the evening and watch the daytime broadcast. Or yesterday's episode. Or the day before yesterday. For the sake of experiment on some channels, we went back a few days (up to 10 days) - there is a recording of the broadcast. We do not have exact data on the number of broadcasts recorded by the service provider, again, we have not checked all the channels and how completely (or selectively) the broadcast is recorded. But from the ones we have checked, we can conclude that it seems that everything is simply written in a row, the air of all available channels is buffered for the past 10 days. If you go forward to the “future” according to the list, then there is a TV program for a couple of days ahead, but of course without a TV broadcast, an announcement of the upcoming broadcast appears on the right half of the screen - a movie, a TV show.
In addition to simply viewing and scrolling through the general list of TV channels, they can be sorted by genre, the following set is available: All, View history, News, Educational, Entertainment, Sports, Music, Children, Cinema. To open this menu area, press the joystick button with the Back/Left arrow on the control panel. It must be admitted that even such an interactive TV menu is hardly possible on a regular TV, and there is no need to talk about watching a TV broadcast over the past 10 days.

The initial screens - when choosing a cinema in the menu - are similar for all: several movie screensavers are displayed on the screen. But by clicking on the button of the joystick of the remote control already known to us with the “Back / Left” arrow on the left half of the screen, a menu opens with a choice of category, genre, year, country and other options for sorting content. Everything is about the same as with television channels. At the same time, we will already consider the remote control, since we already mention it so often, and, in fact, all control of the media center is carried out using the remote control.

Outwardly, the remote control resembles a regular TV remote control, all control functions are quite understandable and accessible. Above the numeric keypad are the power and mute/unmute buttons, and the joystick buttons take center stage on the remote. There are four buttons above it: Home (to the main menu), TV (open the “TV channels” section), VoD (video on demand), Menu (open/hide the menu). Under the joystick - on the right and left - two keys: increase / decrease the sound volume and switch between TV channels. Below is a row of four colored spare buttons. Below them is a block of player control buttons. Below them are four functional buttons: Favorites, Info, Settings, Profile.

A smartphone can be used as a remote control; for this, the manufacturer has developed a special MOYO Remote app for iOS and Android, which is available in the App Store and Google play app stores.

The "My" section by default consists of four blocks: "History", "Video", "Music", "Photo". The "History" saves a list of all watched movies from the hard drive and in online cinemas, from this list you can always start them again (lists of films or programs from television broadcasts are not saved), and the headings "Video", "Music", "Photo" are used for quick access to content stored on the hard drive. You can add your own folder to the "My" section from the content stored on your hard drive. It can be a collection of cartoons for a child or a discography of a favorite artist. Thus, with a large amount of content on the built-in HDD, access to "favorites" content will be fast.

You can perform basic operations on hard disk files using the remote control. For torrent files (with the .torrent extension) these are four operations: "Move", "Copy", "Add torrent file", "Delete". For video, audio and photo files: Watch/Listen, Move, Copy, Delete. In any case, when you navigate through the files with the remote cursor, a list of operations with hints appears under the file name, so there will be no difficulties with management.
The MOYO media center has many interesting features, such as connecting to file storages within the home network, detecting devices connected to the network and media servers. There is no way to mention everything, but what should be said at least in a nutshell is about operations with torrent files, downloading content from the network and watching TV on a tablet.
Torrent Management
Different scenarios are possible here, for example, you can access the Internet through the built-in browser and find content to download there. Although it is not particularly convenient to use the remote control in the browser, it is possible to connect an external keyboard or mouse to the media center via the USB port. But this may not be a very convenient exercise. The easiest way is to save a set of torrent files on a computer or laptop, copy them to a USB flash drive, and then transfer it to the hard drive of the media center, and start downloading here. In the "Devices / Torrent" section, you can control and manage the download process. Pause, start, open distributions, control the speed of downloading and distribution. It is clear that you will not surprise anyone with torrent files, and you can download video content, for example, on your home computer, and then copy it to the media center. But the biggest reason to download directly from the media center is that the media center works absolutely silently, there is simply nothing to make noise (the hard drive rustles barely audibly). So you can throw batches of torrents there and leave them for download, no matter how much they swing. As for broadcasting a signal to a tablet, the matter here is not limited to ordinary duplication, rather it is an additional and, I must say, quite convenient service.
At the moment, it is available for the Apple platform and requires the installation of the free proprietary MOYO.TV application. After entering a special code, the user can watch TV anywhere, wherever he is, while basic functions such as "electronic guide", viewing pause and reminder system will be available. I must say that to use the service it is not at all necessary to buy a set-top box, but in this case only the basic set of channels will be available.
As the ancients said: "DIXI" - I said (lat.), in the sense that it somehow does not make much sense to sum up in this case, everything has already been said and there is nothing to add, all of the above can serve as an argument in favor of the MOYO media center. Before us is a wonderful and amazing device, another step forward in an area that seems to have been explored far and wide. According to service provider MOYO, TV channels are currently being rebroadcast in test mode and free of charge. How long the provision of services under these conditions will last is not yet known. In the future, it is assumed that a certain basic package of TV channels will remain free of charge, and some TV channels will be issued by subscription. Additional information is expected. MOYO service works only in Russia.
An ordinary TV can be endowed with "mind" in many ways - a pre-installed OS, "dongles" that are inserted into the HDMI port of the TV, and set-top boxes.
And if the operating system is chosen by the manufacturer himself, and the dongles require painstaking setup, then a set-top box may be the best option for a TV.
They have impressive functionality and, thanks to their small box form factor, can have good hardware. Among the set-top boxes there are also representatives on the "naked" Android with the "Play Market" and other things, but the set-top boxes with the "own" operating system are much more interesting.
It should be understood that most of them work on the same Android, but modified for specific purposes of "smart" TV, with the exception of TV. The two most prominent representatives of this segment will be discussed - Apple TV 4 and Moyo TV.
MOYO is primarily a service that combines many other services such as online cinemas and regular TV channels. It works only through the proprietary prefix Moyo Box, the cost of which is 5 thousand rubles. In terms of design, this is an ordinary black box with a glossy lid. On the case there is an HDMI port, optical and analog audio outputs, as well as a USB input. It comes with a simple remote control and an HDMI cable.
The main screen is represented by cards with recommendations, which the service selects automatically depending on the browsing history and preferences. Among these cards are movies, latest news releases, match records, and in general everything that the algorithm found interesting for a particular user. But the prefix “understands” preferences only after some time of its use, and until that moment you will have to manually search for the desired channel, show and movie.

As for TV channels, with the help of Moyo you can watch not only live broadcasts, but also recorded programs up to three days ago.
It is rather difficult to find something more or less relevant and interesting in the sections "Cinema" and "Serials". The Applications section deserves special attention, where there are Russian online cinemas ivi.ru, Megogo, as well as Amediateka. Just the presence of "Amediateka" saves the situation.

Moyo works on a subscription basis, but you can start using the set-top box right out of the box, since the first 30 days of viewing all content are free. The fourth generation of Apple's set-top box has received much more features than its predecessors. Until now, Apple TV could simply play movies and music from iTunes and had support for several other services, most of which are not available in Russia.

In terms of movie and video playback, nothing has changed significantly. In addition to buying iTunes movies, you can rent them for much less money. In addition, it supports AirPlay remote playback from iOS devices, which in the new generation supports broadcasting in FullHD. The audio player has support for the Apple Music service.
On the tvOS home screen, at the very top are previews of the main row of applications: in the case of Movies and Music, this is the top, the App Store is recommended applications. Just below all other programs. With a long press on the icon, you can move it to the same main row and swap it with other applications.

Apple TV is perfect for those who love movies and TV shows, as well as spend time playing simple games in front of the TV. Moyo TV, on the other hand, is for TV fans in general, with news releases, shows and matches.
At the same time, the fourth-generation Apple TV differs from the third in support of third-party applications and everything that follows from this. That is, for normal watching movies and playing videos from an iOS device, Apple TV 3 will be enough, which costs much less.

For owners of gadgets based on the Android and iOS operating systems, special applications have been developed with which you can also control the set-top box. The only important condition for this will be the mandatory connection to the same network (router).
When you turn it on for the first time, the set-top box will ask you to set up an Internet connection - this is a prerequisite for using the equipment. Without the Internet, unfortunately, you will not be able to use the service. You can choose to use a cable connection (LAN) or wireless WiFi networks. For comfortable viewing of HD channels, you need a speed of at least 3 megabits / s. TV channels and movies in normal quality usually require only 1.5-2 megabits. If the connection is not stable and the set-top box is not capable of pulling high quality, then it automatically switches to a lower quality stream.
It will also be necessary to create a personal viewer account, and you can log in using the social networks Vkontakte or Facebook. I recommend creating personal accounts for each member of your family so that the set-top box does not get confused and selects content in accordance with the individual preferences of each viewer.

The console interface is very well structured and optimized. And it is optimized in every sense. Firstly, it does not slow down and does not give the impression of a cheap stuffing, and secondly, it is designed in such a way that from the moment you select content to the start of viewing, you only need to make 1-2 movements with the joystick of the remote control.
Moreover, if you mark the program or series you like as “favorites”, then with the release of a new series, it will be waiting for you on the main screen. It remains only to click "OK" and enjoy watching.
All programs and TV channels are beautifully visually designed and have detailed descriptions. There is a program guide and you can even mark in advance what exactly you would like to watch, and when the right hour comes, the device itself will remind you of this if it is in active mode, or it will offer you to watch the recording of the broadcast later.
