Since the slats rotate, you control the degree of illumination yourself. This idea is good because the material for blinds is wear-resistant and is not afraid of temperature changes. True, such curtains for standard balconies may somewhat interfere with the full opening of the shutters. The slats can also ring in drafts, but this can be corrected by fixing the lower fasteners.
  • Roller blind. When opening such curtains for balconies, the fabric either rolls up or fits into a special box. The canvases are separately attached to each window sash.   • Tulle;
  • Batista;
  • Organza;

If you are interested in what pleases the design according to the latest fashion, then the loft style will be relevant in 2016. This industrial style interiors, in some places deliberately rough, the sharpness of which can be set off by window decor. If the decoration of your loggia is standard, but you don’t mind hanging curtains on large loggias that will stand out, you can take curtains with photo printing. In 2016, roller blinds with photo printing will look fresh and original.

Design of curtains on the balcony (photo)

Regardless of what function the balcony performs (serves as a conservation warehouse, a work office, an addition to the living space, or temporary parking for prams), for the most part it consists of glass. And to make this room look complete, the balcony windows should be properly framed with textiles. We are, of course, talking about curtains.

The most important point modern design balconies are considered to be well-chosen curtains that harmoniously combine with common interior. Depending on the purpose of a given room, how many windows it has and how the adjacent room is generally decorated, various requirements are put forward for curtains, including those regarding color, texture and size. To make the room look more original, you can make curtains for the balcony yourself. Such work is not difficult at all - in fact, it only requires sewing machine, skills to work with it and scissors.

Before you start work, you should decide on the type of curtains and their design. An excellent option for a balcony are Roman blinds, which are straight pieces of fabric that are raised by folding. In this case, there are a lot of variations: you can make exquisite French triangles or give preference to beautiful lace, sew a one-piece structure, weighing it along the sashes, or use drapery. Be that as it may, the main advantage of any Roman blinds is convenience.

Note! These curtains will not flutter in the wind or interfere with opening the balcony windows. In addition, similar design solution allows for significant savings.

The fact is that Roman curtains require a small amount of material, so you can easily use expensive original textiles. As for massive curtain structures or curtains consisting of several layers, it is advisable to abandon them in the case of a balcony, because they will take up a significant part of the already limited space. At the same time, it is also better not to use dense light-proof material, since the balcony, first of all, is necessary for the passage of air and light.

Finally, light curtains will look great in Japanese style made from bamboo or linen.

Option #1. We make Roman blinds

Let's start with the fact that they can be solid or consisting of several canvases at once. In the second case, each of the curtains must be attached to a separate cornice. If you are a beginner, then it is better to sew a one-piece version - this will help you understand the essence of the process and understand the principle of operation of the cornice and fasteners.

Note! Often the length of Roman blinds corresponds to the height of the ceiling, but you can make them shorter if you wish.

Stage one. We prepare everything you need

During the manufacturing process you will need:

  • fabric (as well as lining material if necessary);
  • hooks on a screw leg;
  • Velcro tape;
  • screws, small nails;
  • rods with a diameter of 0.4-0.5 cm (wooden or plastic), the length of which is 3 cm less than the expected width of the curtain (about 7-8 pieces);
  • a 2.5x5 cm block (the same length as the width of the curtain) for hanging;
  • small plastic rings (diameter - 1-1.2 cm) for each curtain; you will subsequently thread the cords into them;
  • weight bar;
  • 3 pieces of nylon cord (1 width + 2 curtain lengths).

After preparing everything you need, you can safely begin work.

Stage two. Manufacturing

Step 1. First measure the opening. To the resulting figures, add 6-7 cm for the seams on the sides and 12-15 cm for the allowances. As a rule, height allowances correspond to 20% of the curtain. Next, decate the fabric to avoid mistakes or shrinkage of the material when sewing: place it in water for a few minutes, then dry and iron.

If we talk about folds, their number/size depends, first of all, on the length of the window. To determine the required pitch between folds, you can use the table below.

We also note that another secret to making these curtains is the correct calculation of the “pockets-folds”.

Step 2. Mark on the back side future turns, folds and the location of the rings in accordance with the diagram above. In this case, it is necessary that there be the same step between the folds everywhere - then ready product It will drape beautifully.

Step 3. Double hem the side edges. Adjust the tension of the cord so that the stitching does not tighten the sides.

Step 4. Using a furniture stapler or small nails, secure the Velcro to the bottom of the block with the canvas attached to it. Process the top cut, then sew the remaining piece of Velcro there - this way, if necessary, you can easily remove the fabric to wash it.

Pre-treat the block that will serve as a cornice with paint of the required color. Although, instead of a block, you can take a lambrequin strip with Velcro (these are bought with brackets for the ceiling).

Step 5. Make a fold at the bottom of the rim and create a drawstring of such a width that you can insert a weight bar into the formed “pocket”. As an option, a flat profile (made of aluminum) can serve as a weighting material, the length of which would be 1-2 cm less than the cornice.

It is important that the color of the weighting material matches the color of the fabric. You can buy such a profile at any hardware store.

Step 6. Sew a border along the wrong side of the fabric, and insert pins into the pockets formed as a result. Seal the holes, but only sew the edges on one side - this will allow you to remove the pins and put them back before washing.

It is also important that the pins do not tear the fabric. Ideally, small plastic rods or corset inserts should be used (the latter can be found in any store specializing in sewing accessories). You need to insert such corset inserts as follows: first cut them into pieces of the required length, leaving a small margin, and heat them with an iron through the fabric, then put them under a press for several days to completely straighten them (the fact is that such inserts are sold in rolls by the meter). After this, you can insert them into the curtain pockets. Finally, another option would be to use metal wire, but provided that the rods are straight and made of stainless steel.

Step 7 Mark the location of the rings and sew them on by hand, following the diagram. Use nails to secure the rings to the block.

Note! The rings should be positioned symmetrically with respect to the middle of the curtain. In addition, the outer rings need to be attached approximately 7-10 cm from the edges.

Step 8 Attach the canvas to the block with Velcro. Fastening element secure the cord to the frame. Thread the cord through the rings, moving from bottom to top, and tie a knot at the bottom. You can additionally use glue to increase strength.

Step 9 When threading the cord through the remaining rings, perform the steps described above with each new row. As a result, the cords should come out on one side through the upper rings. Pull all the cords tightly, then distribute the folds along the curtain. Using ribbons, secure the folds in this position.

The process of making curtains. Pull the ropes through the holes on the cross bars. When this stage is completed, stretch the ropes through the holes in the cornice and secure it

Step 10 Place the block on the window frame or above it, remove the ribbons - the frame should then lower. Adjust the tension of the cords and, gathering them into a bundle, tie them into a knot behind the last ring. Next, thread them through the lifting handle and tie another one half a meter from the knot. Carefully trim the ends past the second knot. That's it, the job is finished!

Option #2. Making blinds from leftover non-woven wallpaper

Another option that can be used to decorate a balcony. After renovation, many people don’t know where to place the remaining wallpaper, but we suggest making original ones out of them. paper blinds. By the way, Chinese housewives were the first to make paper curtains to decorate bedrooms, and you can use this option on the balcony.

First measure the width/height of the windows. Then add about another 25% to the height, because the wallpaper will fold like an accordion.

Upon completion of measurements, prepare:

  • wallpaper;
  • tape (regular and double-sided);
  • hole punch (can be replaced with an awl);
  • glue;
  • ruler;
  • large beads;
  • scissors;
  • tape (its color should match the color of the wallpaper);
  • fastener (take it from an old sports jacket).

The further algorithm of actions should look like this.

Table. Making paper blinds

Steps, no.Short descriptionIllustration
Step 1After taking measurements, make simple markings - mark the places of punctures and bends. Next, bend the wallpaper to create a beautiful “accordion”.

Step 2Fold the resulting workpiece into one even strip, as shown in the image.

Step 3Punch all layers of wallpaper using a hole punch or awl.

Step 4Carefully widen the hole you made.

Step 5Pass a ribbon through the hole (if desired, you can replace it with a clothes cord). Using this tape you will open paper blinds.

Step 6Place the accordion on the floor, straightening it.

Step 7Tie a cord at the top and secure it with tape.

Step 8Cut off the excess cord from the bottom, leaving a small margin for further manipulation.

Step 9Fold the blinds at the bottom to create a sort of peacock tail. It's quite simple. Then glue the last 5 folds together and secure with double-sided tape.

Step 10Install the jacket fastener onto the cord.

Step 11Shorten the ribbon to the required length; you can decorate the end with a bead.

Step 12Attach the finished blinds to the window using the same double-sided tape.

Such blinds will look fresh and original, in no way inferior to their “store” counterparts. There are other varieties of these products - for example, with several parallel cords.

Option #3. Making Japanese curtains

An excellent option for decorating spacious balconies and loggias. The production of such curtains initially meant the use of only natural fabrics - linen or cotton. If your budget is very limited, then give preference to non-stretchable materials. And one more important point: surface Japanese curtains should be perfectly smooth, without waves or folds.

First, cut the panels using the instructions below.

Step 1. Measure the width of the window opening, divide the resulting figure by 60 cm. This way you will determine the required number of panels. And if the width is divided by 60, then the panels will be installed close to each other. If it is not a multiple of 60, then round up in order to subsequently overlap the panels.

Step 2. Measure the height from the cornice, add another 10 cm to the resulting value (for allowances).

Step 3. Multiply the resulting length by the number of panels - this will allow you to find out the required length of the fabric if the width is 60 cm. With a larger width, the length decreases proportionally.

Step 4. Open the panels on a piece of material, process the bottom and side edges.

Step 5. Smooth out the panels and then treat top part. The plank that will be attached to the cornice must have Velcro (the latter is called Velcro).

After this, you can proceed directly to sewing - for this:

  • smooth out the Velcro;
  • lay the curtain so that the top edge is visible;
  • place Velcro on the seam allowance with the front side and secure with pins;
  • stitch everything;
  • lay the curtain, bend the Velcro to the wrong side;
  • secure everything with pins and stitch;
  • iron the fabric until it is perfectly smooth;
  • Make a drawstring at the bottom and insert a weighting agent into it;
  • insert the top into the holder.

Option number 4. Making a thread curtain

Such decor looks impressive, so it can become a true decoration of your balcony. If desired, this curtain can be made at home.

For work, prepare:

  • dense plastic strip(it can also be wooden or cardboard) of the required size;
  • wide fabric for trim decoration;
  • thread with a thickness of at least 0.2 cm;
  • hammer;
  • glue gun;
  • lighter;
  • thin nails (5-6 pieces) to attach the strip to the opening.

After preparation, begin work on making thread curtains.

Step 1. Measure the height of the window opening. The length of one thread will consist of the height of the opening multiplied by 2, the width of the strip multiplied by 4, and 2 cm of margin. For example, if the height of the opening is 1.5 m and the width of the strip is 2 cm, then the length of one thread will be 3.1 m.

Step 2. Cut pieces of thread to the required size. Calculate in advance how many of these pieces you will need, but approximately it is 400-500 pieces. For convenience, you can perform the work in stages: cut, for example, a hundred threads - attach, etc.

Step 3. Attach the threads to the bar. Do this with a regular knot, just like in macrame: fold one piece in half, throw it over the bar, and thread the ends through the loop that has formed. Use a glue gun to secure the loop. Below is demonstrated how to properly attach the threads.

Step 4. Distribute all the threads evenly, and then mask the gaps through which the bar is visible (do this with a thin knitting needle or with your hands). After this, carefully trim the pieces.

Step 5. Burn the ends of the threads with a lighter - this will make the product last longer. Alternatively, you can dip the ends (maximum 0.5 cm) in glue.

Step 6. The ends of the plank can be hidden with pieces of fabric attached with a stapler or glue and folded onto the wrong side (the one that will be attached to the wall).

Note! If you wish, you can put beads on the threads - this will make the curtain look even more attractive.

Step 7 All that remains is to attach the finished curtain to the opening. Use small finishing nails for this. That's it, the work is finished.

Such curtains can decorate not only the balcony, but also any other room. They will also look great on the doors or windows of a country house.

Video - Thread curtains in interior design

Modern balconies and loggias are usually glazed - window structures are installed on them. Thanks to this technique, another room appears in the apartment, not very large in area, but with spacious and wide windows consisting of many sashes. For such specific windows, curtains are needed that allow full use of all the sashes and do not reduce the space. These problems are successfully solved with the help of Roman blinds.

The photo shows Roman blinds in the interior of a French balcony. These curtains are perfect for large panoramic windows.

When open, they gather into deep horizontal folds. They are controlled using cords threaded through sewn reverse side ring panels, and a special cornice in which the shaft and lifting block are located. To make the folds even and uniform, horizontal slats are attached to the underside of the curtains every 40-60 cm.

In the photo there are Roman blinds in the interior of the loggia, which has been converted into cozy place for relaxing and reading books.

Such curtains have many advantages:

  • Both folded and open form they are adjacent to the window, leaving the approach to it free, do not take up much space and do not “eat up” the territory.
  • They can be installed directly on the sashes. This will allow you to fully use all window design, as well as the window sill and the space below it.
  • An unlimited range of fabrics makes it possible to select the color and texture of these universal curtains not only for the interior of the loggia, but also for the room adjacent to it.
  • Caring for such curtains is simple and comes down to automatic washing in a mode appropriate to the type of fabric from which they are made.

Thanks to these features, Roman blinds are very convenient to use in small rooms with non-standard windows, such as balconies. Their only equivalent competitors in this area are roll and horizontal blinds. But unlike Roman curtains, both look more ascetic and not so cozy.

If you decide to decorate a balcony or loggia with Roman blinds, before you go to the store or sew them yourself, ask yourself three questions:

  1. 1 What fabric should curtains be made of?
  2. 2 Where is the best place to install them?
  3. 3 Which control method should I choose?

Since the area of balconies and loggias, with rare exceptions, is small, you should not choose too dark and thick fabrics. It is also advisable to avoid large and colorful patterns on them. In addition, through general window the loggia is clearly visible from the adjacent room, and designers advise decorating both rooms in one color scheme. So that the space does not seem closed and there is a sense of perspective, the curtains on the loggia should be lighter than in the room.

Roman blinds are also good because they can be fixed in any way: on the ceiling, on the wall, on the entire window and on each sash separately. You can choose any of these options, but for balconies and loggias the latter is still preferable. In this case, it becomes possible to use each of the doors independently and comfortably regulate light and air flows.

Curtain rods for Roman blinds come with manual (cord), rotary-chain and automatic control. Manual control is used for curtains weighing no more than 3 kg. Rotary chain curtain rods can withstand loads of up to 7 kg. You can also mount heavier curtains on an automatic curtain rod and control them even from the next room. But the price of such cornices is quite high, and their use is not always advisable

Design ideas

When installing on the doors, it is not necessary to hang identical curtains. By alternating canvases of different densities and colors, you will create not only a stylish, but also an original interior.

When the furnishings on the loggia and in the room are identical, the space visually expands.

A win-win option is to decorate the loggia with bamboo curtains. Their neutral design makes them suitable for any environment and gently diffuses light to create eye-friendly lighting.

On the north side, curtains made of light, light-transmitting fabric are preferable.

On southern windows you can hang curtains made of reflective fabric. Even on hot days they will help keep the room cool.

Due to the fact that the depth of a loggia or balcony rarely exceeds 120 cm, it is not easy to transform them from a place for drying clothes and storing seasonal items into a full-fledged living space. But Roman blinds are so versatile and varied that they can correct the shortcomings of any interior. Take them into service, and another very cozy and comfortable room will inevitably appear in your home.

Loggia in modern apartments has enough big sizes, and therefore can be used as a full-fledged recreation room. To give this room a cozy and lived-in feel. appearance you need to use curtains. Curtains also perform the function of adjusting the flow of light onto the balcony. How to choose curtains for a loggia and how to make them yourself - read on.

How to make roller curtains with your own hands:

  1. Measure your size window frame. You need to determine the length and width of the glass for each individual window. To the resulting size you should add 2 cm on each side.
  2. Choose the right fabric. It is better if it is made of linen or cotton, matching the color with the main shades of the interior.
  3. Cut out two pieces of fabric for each curtain.
  4. Sew the fabrics together on two vertical and one horizontal sides. Insert into horizontal seam wooden plank and sew it there.
  5. Sew along the horizontal sides two ribbons on the front and back sides. The tapes should run at the same level and have one seam.
  6. Tuck the top edges of the tape into the open part of the bag. Carefully fold it over and sew it together.
  7. Attach the curtain to the window using a staple gun or double-sided tape. The first method is chosen if the frame is wooden, and the second if you have plastic windows.

To raise the curtains you will need to roll the fabric into a roll and secure it at the desired level by tying the ribbons into beautiful bows. When closed, the ends of the curtains should also have ribbon bows, so these curtain elements should be 10 cm longer than the canvas.
