Make the doors into an arch with your own hands. Do-it-yourself arched door: making. Types of arched openings

Arched structures in construction have been known for quite some time. But previously, using arches in the design of homes or other buildings was the privilege of the nobility. Luxurious palaces, churches and so on - this was the main direction in the use of arched structures. At that time, building these was quite difficult in many respects. That is why their spread everywhere began only in the 20th century. Progress does not stand still and with the development of technology, installation work for the arrangement of arches became available to the general public, as well as for use in various areas construction.

An arched entrance door is more durable than a regular door, since its production uses solid solid wood, optionally covered with metal.

Today it is no longer a luxury, but rather one of the popular options for interior design or building design. Arched door with your own hands you can easily decorate any room and make its design more original.

Carrying out individual construction, in the interior you can use arches in window and door openings, when decorating the ceiling, and so on. Of course, I would like to separately note the design of the arched door. After all, it is distinguished by its special sophistication and attractiveness. This is exactly what will be discussed next.

Types of arched openings

Types of arched doors.

Today, very often in the design of both residential and other premises, you can find a variety of arches. These can be either entrance or interior openings. There are quite a lot of their types. But if you think about classification, you can divide them into the following types:

  1. Semicircular view. The most common one today.
  2. Gothic (pointed) arches. They are distinguished by the presence of an elongated shape that does not have smooth lines with a pointed top part.

But that's not all, the first option is divided into several subtypes. This:

  1. Classic option. It implies the presence of a regular semicircular shape.
  2. Ellipsoidal. The name speaks for itself; their shape resembles a slightly elongated oval.
  3. Modern style. Its use gives the arches a variety of original shapes, having various kinds of protrusions and transitions.
  4. Romantic version of arches. It is very simple, as it has the shape of a rectangle with a rounded top.
  5. Horseshoe arches (horseshoe-shaped). Their design implies the presence of both semicircular shapes and shapes with a pointed top. This option can most often be found in the interiors of different national cultures.

Now a few words about arched doors.

Arched doors: design options

An arched interior door will help visually expand small space corridor.

Arched doors can be classified according to different signs. For example, according to the material used for manufacturing or the features of their design. And another classifying feature is the location of their installation. So, taking the last of the signs as a basis, arched doors can be classified into:

  1. Interior doors. As is already clear, they are located indoors. Their design is made of wood and very often has elements such as mosaic and glass.
  2. Entrance arched doors. This option finds its application in various public buildings, for example in shops. In addition, they are used in their interior by various government agencies and shopping or entertainment centers. Their manufacture involves the use of a plastic profile.

The next classifying feature is the material from which arched doors are made. It's not very obvious here big choice. It is due to the complexity and existing difficulties in the manufacture of doors in the form of an arch. There are only 2 categories. This:

  1. Plastic. It is produced from profile structures, which are subsequently used to make doors and windows.
  2. Tree. This material is recommended for indoor use, but in private construction it can also be used entrance doors.

Diagram of the arched opening.

And finally, the nuances of the design are also a classifying feature. Based on it, the following types can be distinguished:

  1. Doors shaped to match the opening. It takes quite a lot to produce a structure of this kind. a large number of time. And not everyone can afford their cost. The material for production is usually wood.
  2. Door leaf having standard solution with an arch above it. This type of door has a lower price, since the semicircular part is installed separately from the door leaf and remains stationary. In this case, you can use several door options, for example, swing or sliding.
  3. Doors with only 1 leaf. Used to decorate interior spaces. Use as input is also allowed.
  4. If the opening has big sizes in width, it would be advisable to use double doors. Fix 1 of the parts in doorway possible using a device such as a latch.

Making an arched door with your own hands: is it possible?

This work is not easy, but it is still possible to do it on our own. Below is the work order and useful tips for making an arched door. I would like to note that it would be better to make the frame for such a door to order. To do this, you need to decide on the size and seek help from specialists. And here is the production door leaf provides for a simpler technology.

Necessary equipment

First of all, you need to make sure you have everything you need for work. This concerns various instruments and materials. Here's a short list:

  • an electric jigsaw equipped with saw blades for working with wood;
  • electric milling cutter (cutters should be of 2 types: disk for making grooves and cylindrical);
  • tape Grinder(it would be good if it was equipped with sandpaper in different sizes);
  • boards 5 cm thick;
  • wooden wedges;
  • medium-sized bars and self-tapping screws (4 pieces are enough), the length of which is 30 mm greater than the thickness of the bars used;
  • an adhesive composition with water-resistant properties (for example, PVA).

Door leaf arch: how to make?

To make it, we will need the opening width in pure form. You can calculate it in a simple way: from general meaning For the width, subtract the thickness of the box and the estimated gap (usually 2 mm).

At the next stage, you need to decide on the size of the arch. For a harmonious look, it should be equal to half the width of the door opening. Having found this out, you can begin to calculate required quantity boards The location of the material (boards) will be horizontal.

When installing a fixed arch in the resulting cavity, you can “hide” all the wires and cables.

For work, use only well-dried material. Using an electric router, you need to make the grooves. The protruding part of the groove should correspond to 2.5 mm. All grooves are made by analogy with the first.

Arched doors have been carried through the centuries to today its historical significance, irreplaceability in the interior and incredible beauty. The combination of simplicity and splendor of this design gives the surrounding space an attractive appearance and an appearance of extraordinary beauty.

An arched door is a frame and leaves with an arched upper part. This design involves installing the product in an opening of a proportionate configuration in the form of an arch.

Interior door arches, as the personification of charm and a special mood in design, have adorned the most famous creations of architecture since ancient times. Today, elliptical doors have become an integral attribute, as office premises, and residential apartments.

We are accustomed to the standard form of interior and entrance doors, but even here designers work tirelessly. Arched doors amaze with their variety of shapes, materials, designs; their use today is widespread: entrance and interior doors for private houses and apartments, entrance doors in buildings of a special architectural composition, plastic ones for equipping offices and terraces, etc.

The opening can be round or pointed. The rounded opening, in turn, is divided into 4 main types: classic, ellipsoidal, modern and romantic.

Arched door, in its own way design characteristics completely similar traditional products: swing, sliding, solid and glazed. A specific door design is selected in accordance with the interior of the home. The most popular are swing double-leaf structures.

What are the advantages of arched products?

Arched products entered our market very quickly and quietly, but quite noticeably won the favor of consumers, which is not at all surprising.

Main advantages non-standard designs in your house:

  • visual expansion of the room;
  • visual increase in the height of the room due to the visual raising of the ceiling;
  • creating a unique and original interior, eye-catching;
  • due to the large area, they let in a lot of sunlight.

Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks: the installation of arched products requires a sufficiently high and wide opening for safe passage through the door. Making and installing structures with your own hands is somewhat difficult. Designing a product and an opening requires more labor, and in frequent cases, you should trust specialists.

Making an arched structure

The list of materials used for the production of arched doors is very diverse. Such products can be: wooden, plastic, metal. Metal ones are considered more reliable and practical, but they are practically not used inside a house or apartment.

Plastic products allow you to make an arch of various shapes and designs. Please pay Special attention on wooden arched doors, interior arches made of solid wood look more than beautiful, and are simply designed to enhance the interior of a house or apartment.

Let's be honest, creating an arched door design with your own hands is difficult, especially without the necessary skills and special equipment. But, nevertheless, for those who are confident in their abilities, there are instructions for making wooden arched products with your own hands (one half of the structure is considered, since the canvases are mirrored):

  1. Take your own measurements of the arched box and mark them in natural scale on the fiberboard canvas.
  2. Mark the top ends and draw the top and bottom edges. Then the edge located with inside below - cut out using a jigsaw.
  3. Preparing panels from wood panels consists of sawing them to fit the dimensions of the opening.
  4. Having assembled the binding inside, mount a vertical block in the center of the lintel.
  5. Once you have completed the preparation of all the elements, perform a rough assembly yourself.
  6. Having prepared inserts for support in the location of the central opening, tighten the bars.
  7. After gluing the canvases with internal bindings and panels, place two sashes on the prepared arch, aligning them - draw a chiseled arc.
  8. Cut out a jigsaw arch along the drawn contour, sanding the edge on top.
  9. After painting the finished product and frame, the manufacture of the arched door is considered complete.

After completed labor-intensive process, all you have to do is install the product yourself on it permanent place into the opening.

A simple solution for sliding arched doors

For installation in a rounded opening and in the absence of free space in the room, sliding arched structures are the ideal and at the same time the simplest solution. The only point is that sliding structures, when the doors are closed, are visible only on one side in the form of an arch, and on the other you will see only a standard rectangular structure.

Sliding structures arched type require more labor-intensive work during their installation, and their production is accompanied by auxiliary work, which leads to an increase in the price of the final product compared to classic rectangular models.

Sliding doors, in addition to additional work, increase their cost due to the manufacture of a special frame and panels. Sliding structures have simple geometric shape, and giving curved outlines is only necessary for the box.

Plastic products

Despite the favorable low cost, plastic arched structures are surprisingly very practical and durable. Plastic products do not corrode and do not require additional painting or finishing. If the door opening is also made of plastic, the structure will retain its performance properties for a long time.

Plastic doors with an arched outline are distinguished by high sound insulation properties, while protecting the room from dust and not letting in cold air. Modern production plastic doors involves the use of materials that are resistant to mechanical stress, in particular combustion.

Double doors

Double doors in the form of an arch are very popular in private real estate, as they create a noble and luxurious interior. With the use of stained glass inserts and other decorative elements, double-leaf arches become almost the center of the surrounding space, with a predominance of comfort and warmth.

Double-leaf products are used in the case of a wide opening; they can have either different widths (asymmetrical) or the same width. To save money usable space in the room, the canvases open outwards. These doors are very attractive and fill the room with hospitality and warmth.

Trying to move away from generally accepted standards and give the interior elegance, apartment owners and country houses change the usual doors to arches. This is no longer a new, but still popular design highlight. The arch in the doorway can be purchased ready-made or made with your own hands. It comes in a variety of configurations, so it allows you to realize any idea.

Shapes of arched openings

Interior door arches are selected not only based on taste preferences, but also depending on certain parameters: ceiling height and. The structures are made of plasterboard, wood, MDF, PVC. The easiest way to work is with drywall, as it is the most flexible material.

Currently there are a large number different types arches that vary in shape. The most common are:

Arched openings also have various designs and based on this they are divided into several varieties:

Taking a closer look at your interior and choosing the desired model arches, you can begin the step-by-step work.

Step-by-step instructions for making your own

To avoid spending extra money on finished goods, you can do the finishing of the arched opening yourself. To do this, you need to follow a clearly established scheme.

Carrying out the necessary measurements

Any construction process requires accuracy, which is achieved by taking preliminary measurements. You need to start from the opening itself, so first measure its width and height. The size of the span between the walls of the opening is equal to the width of the arch. In order to make a semicircle as accurately as possible, this indicator must be divided by two.

Before making an arch, you need to decide on its future configuration. If you are going to do it in classic style, then pre-level the walls. Otherwise, the design will look ugly. Remove all defects from vertical surface You can use putty or plaster using beacons.

Creating a load-bearing frame

To install the frame, you should perform a series of sequential steps:

  1. Along the lines of the opening, a contour of metal profile. Vertical guides are installed indented from the surface of the interior wall. The size of the indentation is equal to the thickness of the drywall sheet and the plaster layer (about 0.2 cm).
  2. We install two such profiles parallel to each other on each side.

    To construct the frame, two profiles are installed in parallel

  3. Having finished working with the profiles, we begin installing the first sheet of drywall. If its thickness is 1.25 cm, then it is recommended to screw it with 3.5x35 self-tapping screws. If the thickness of the gypsum board is no more than 0.95 cm, use smaller screws.

    Drywall is secured using self-tapping screws

  4. Cover the second side of the frame with plasterboard.

  5. Make a metal profile in the shape of an arc. To do this, cut the side walls of the profile every 7 centimeters with special scissors. As a result of these actions, it is easier to give it the required shape. For an arched structure, two such blanks will be required.

    An arched arc is made from the profile

  6. Install and secure the arched profiles to the main part of the frame.

    The arcuate profile is attached to the main part of the frame

  7. To ensure that the arches are securely fixed, they are attached with hangers to a straight guide located on top. The number of hangers depends on the width of the opening. Usually three pairs are enough.

  8. In increments of 0.4-0.6 m, attach reinforcing crossbars around the perimeter of the frame, fixing them on the guides of two contours.
  9. As a result of the above actions, a reliable metal structure in the form of an arch from a profile. In the future, it will be covered with plasterboard or plywood.

If it is assumed that the columns of the arches will not be too thick in thickness, then 2 arches can be replaced with a wide profile. Cutting and bending is done in exactly the same way. Only in in this case no need to install crossbars.

Sometimes instead of a metal profile they use wooden slats. The frame installation technology does not change significantly.

Bending plasterboard sheet

After installing the frame, they take on the bending of the gypsum board. Experts recommend using drywall designed specifically for arched structures. It easily takes the desired shape if the material is kneaded in the longitudinal direction.

If you decide to use regular drywall, then you will have to tinker with it. The installation element is cut out the right size in the form of a rectangle. They bend it in two ways: wet and dry.

Bend manufacturing diagram

The wet method takes a lot of time and cannot be rushed. To prevent the material from cracking when bent, it is moistened with water and punctures are made. In this form, the sheet of drywall is left to lie for some time, and then it is bent onto a template of the desired configuration.

The dry method refers to the application of cuts parallel to each other on the back side of the plasterboard. The cut goes deep into the sheet, affecting the outer cardboard layer and plaster. Layer of cardboard with front side remains intact.

With the dry method, the bending of the installation element takes correct form. It is important to know that cutting through gypsum boards is best done with a jigsaw rather than a hacksaw. Then the edges will not be torn.

Rough sheathing of the frame

If the bending was done using the wet method, then first of all you need to wait until the sheet of drywall is completely dry. The material is fixed first with adhesive tape and then with self-tapping screws. The minimum step between them should be from 5 to 6 centimeters.

Perforated corner prevents edge chipping

After fastening the sheathing, the edges of the plasterboard sheet are cleaned. And in order to prevent chipping of the curved edge, a perforated plastic corner is installed on it.

Leveling with putty

To make the surface smooth, you need to finish the arched structure. First, apply a primer, and after it dries, putty. To reinforce the second layer and strengthen the corners, fiberglass mesh is used.

Fiberglass mesh reinforces the corners of the arch

The last third layer of putty is applied to the mesh. After about 10 hours, it dries, after which you can begin sanding the uneven areas. If the work is done well, the surface will be free of roughness and unevenness, and the heads of the screws will not be visible in it.

Methods for finishing arches

Those who want to decorate the arches themselves will have to work hard, cutting out each part separately. However, many do not look for complications and choose the simple path - they purchase factory-made structures from prefabricated elements.

Ready-made and prefabricated linings

There are two types of factory-made overlay: wooden and foam.

Foam elements

Foam arches are often preferred as an alternative gypsum products. The advantages of such designs are as follows:

  1. Quick installation. The installation speed is much higher than arched structures made of plywood or gypsum plasterboard.
  2. Low price.
  3. Easy transportation. Polystyrene foam is enough lightweight material, so you don’t need to hire movers to deliver the product to your home.
  4. Light weight. Arches of this type can be installed even on very weak structures.
  5. Various forms.

Foam arches are assembled from ready-made elements and cut locally to fit the dimensions of the opening

Negative sides arched foam structure are: fragility, toxicity, rapid flammability.

Wood elements

Wooden arched structures do not require advertising. They look rich and rarely do not fit any interior style. However, it should be understood that the word “wooden” does not mean that all components are made of pine, oak or other solid wood.

The arch can be made from natural wood, MDF, chipboard or plywood

Arched elements are also made from inexpensive MDF, laminated chipboard, and veneered plywood. The desired option is selected individually based on taste and wallet thickness.

Wooden elements are ordered from a catalog and then cut to length before installation

Installation wooden structures It's easy to do. IN construction stores arches are sold both assembled and disassembled. The first option is considered more reliable, since the work was performed by a specialist.

Decoration with finishing materials

Currently, there are many ways to do it beautifully and neatly. The decor is selected so that it is in harmony in color, texture, material with home environment. The most popular options are:

  1. Simple coloring. The arch will look elegant and complete if you simply paint it white, Brown color or to match the walls. This finish is often complemented decorative elements, backlight.

    Plain paint looks great when combined with lighting

  2. Wallpapering. This is the fastest, most affordable and easiest process. For these purposes, vinyl or non-woven options are best suited.

    Slopes highlighted with wallpaper are a very stylish design move

  3. Finishing with wooden and plastic lining. The method guarantees not only excellent aesthetic appearance, but also ensures the durability of the structure, protecting it from moisture and mechanical damage.

    The option with lining is perfect for interiors with wall decoration made of the same material

  4. Decorative plaster. The surface of the arch is beautiful, textured and durable. True, such finishing sometimes needs to be restored, and it requires some care.

    This method looks especially advantageous in deep arches.

  5. Stone. Arch in a house made of natural or artificial stone can only be installed with the help of a professional. The decoration captivates the eye and makes the interior unusual.

    The torn edges of the arch can become the highlight of any interior

  6. Cork– it’s quite expensive, but environmentally friendly pure material. It is easily susceptible to mechanical damage, so to extend its service life it is recommended to cover the cork with wax.

    Cork finishing brings a sense of eco-friendliness and comfort to the interior

  7. Clinker tiles. This finish will last for many years. It does not attract dirt and does not require special care.

    Finishing with clinker tiles – limitless space for interesting solutions

When renovating apartments, when a decision is made to remove doors, widen a doorway or build a partition, most of us advocate the installation of arches, which look more modern and attractive than standard rectangular openings. This architectural solution visually expands the room without installing doors. As a rule, openings with a round outline have several main types:

    the arc of the arch has the correct radius - classic version;

    the arc of the arch is made with a rise (modern style);

    the arc of the arch has a straight part in the center with rounded corners of the desired radius;

    the arc of the arch is made in the form of a regular or irregular ellipse.

The last two types are best suited to wide openings. Below we will look at the installation features various types interior arches on a frame made of profiles.

The simplest and most common option is installing a frame in an existing doorway . This type of construction suits those customers who do not plan to cover the walls with plasterboard, but would like to have an arch.

    The installation of the frame should begin only after the completion of plastering and putty work, i.e. when the doorway is completely ready for further finishing. In this case, its inner part should have a flat, smooth surface.

    Next, in the upper part of the opening we fix straight vertical and horizontal guides ceiling profiles(PNP profiles 28x27), and the dowel-nails should be placed at a distance of 200-300 mm from each other, and holes for them should be drilled at an angle deep into the wall so as not to damage its edges. Dowel-nails must be located in the corners and at the ends of the profiles.

It is important that the guide profiles are positioned strictly parallel to the partition. It should be taken into account that the profiles must be recessed into the opening to the thickness of the plasterboard sheet, i.e. by 13 mm.

    Then we cut out two identical parts from a sheet of drywall that will form the profile of the arch. These parts should fit freely into the doorway, forming a gap of 7 mm with the wall. We temporarily fix one of the parts on the wall with two self-tapping screws. From the PP profile we cut pieces of the required length, focusing on the temporarily fixed part, so that they do not extend beyond its edge. Each such segment requires two copies.

Don’t forget to mark the installation locations of the PP profiles so as not to get confused. After this, we remove the plasterboard part, and fasten the prepared sections with self-tapping screws, first to one PNP profile, then to another.

Aligning the “snake” with the edge of the plasterboard sheet, we mark on it with a marker the location of the profiles, and on sections of PP profiles, the depth to which the “snake” will move. We cut off the excess. In addition, we trim the last segment of the “snake” adjacent to the sides of the doorway. We perform the same operation with the second “snake”.

When filling the arch, do not forget to protect the corners with a corner profile.

The outlined frame design for an arched opening can also be used with simultaneous continuous cladding of walls with plasterboard using the Perlfix mixture . In this case, the width of the frame must be determined by the width of the wall, i.e. flush with the wall.

Arrangement of an arched opening in frame partition from plasterboard we do it as follows.

    The facing of the partition begins with the doorway. In this case, whole sheets must be used - this is a guarantee against the formation of cracks. It takes two people to work.

We apply a sheet of drywall to the partition frame so that the doorway is located approximately in the middle of the sheet. Then we move it to one side so that the edge of the sheet falls in the middle of the rack profile. We measure the sheet in length so that its free end also falls on the rack profile, and cut off the excess.

We lift the sheet to the ceiling and, leaving a gap of 5 mm, begin to fix it in this position with self-tapping screws. Having screwed in 2-3 self-tapping screws, we continue to attach the sheet to the rack profile. Ultimately this plasterboard sheet must be fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws with a pitch of no more than 250 mm.

    We measure the width of the doorway and mark the center line on the surface of the plasterboard sheet (the width of the opening divided by 2). From the top point of the opening, measure the same half of the opening width, making a mark on the center line. We have obtained the center of the circle for the arch.

If such an arch radius is not suitable for some reason, for example, if the doorway is wide enough, it can be increased by lowering the center of the circle down along the center line. Accordingly, the arched vault will end up being less steep.

If you need to obtain a specific arch profile, it is recommended to first accurately calculate all the radii and their connections, then cut out a template, and using the template, mark the contours of the desired arched opening on fixed sheets of drywall.

So, draw a line along the contour of the arch and carefully saw off the extra fragment along this marking.

In the same way, we fix a sheet of drywall on the other side of the partition, make markings and saw off the excess.

    The next stage will be to strengthen the arched opening and give rigidity to the structure. For this we need wooden plank 50x70 mm, from which a number of bars (at least five) should be cut corresponding to the width of the opening. the length of each bar is equal to the distance between the sheets of drywall inside the partition. Having evenly distributed the bars along the radius of the arc, we fix the sheets of drywall onto them with self-tapping screws.

    We cut out a strip of the required width and length from drywall, moisten it with a spray bottle and, placing it in a “bridge” on two supports (you can use bricks, boxes, cans, etc.), place a small weight in the middle. After some time, the strip will bend under the weight of the load, and it can be fixed to the bars with self-tapping screws even when wet.

    Next, we fix strips of plasterboard onto the side rack profiles with self-tapping screws, the width being equal to the thickness of the partition, and the length from the edge of the strip to the floor. Don’t forget to strengthen the arched opening with a corner profile.

Nowadays, interior arches instead of doors have become very popular. They give the room extravagance and elegance, helping to free up space in small apartments that was occupied by doors when opened. They are installed between adjacent rooms, in the hallway or in the kitchen. Can .

The arch can have different configurations and be made of different materials. They are usually made of plasterboard. It is suitable for installation and bends well.

Preparing for work

Before making an arch instead of a door, you need to measure the opening, plan a specific shape for the arch and calculate its dimensions. It is necessary to measure the width of the door opening and its height from the floor. Moreover, it is necessary to take into account that the arch will reduce the opening by about 10-15 cm. If the height is less than 2 m, then it is better not to make an arch, but to decorate the opening with decorative details made of foam plastic.

The width of the arch will be equal to the distance between the side walls of the opening. Measure the opening and divide the distance in half. This value is necessary to make a correct semicircle. Before installing the arch, you need to find out what shape it will be.

You can install a semicircular arched structure made of plasterboard. When planning installation, you need to find out whether the walls are vertical and level enough. This is necessary for the design to be correct. If the walls of the door opening are not level enough, then their surface must be leveled with putty.

Materials and tools:

  • drywall;
  • stand profile;
  • dowels;
  • screws;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • roller with needles;
  • arch corner with holes;
  • latex putty.

First, the front parts of the arch are performed. You need to pick up 2 pieces of drywall. The measurement and cutting of pieces is carried out uniquely for all materials.

An even semicircle can be done in two ways.

  1. First way. It can be made using rope if it does not stretch. This rope must be tied to a simple pencil. Then mark the middle of the semicircle, more precisely, its radius. For this, the value that was obtained by measuring the opening width is used.

If the opening width is 1 m, then the radius of the semicircle will be 50 cm. From the edge of the plasterboard sheet, where the top of the arched structure is located, you need to measure 60 cm and draw a straight line. This value was obtained by the following calculations:

50 cm + 10 cm = 60 cm.

10 cm is the distance from the top of the opening to the top point of the arched structure.

Then the plasterboard sheet is cut to fit the width of the opening (100 cm). Then the middle is marked on the drawn segment. To do this, measure 50 cm from the edge. We got a point for drawing a semicircle.

You need to take a pencil with a string, measure 0.5 m, and draw a semicircle from the resulting point. This is how a kind of compass was made. If everything was done correctly, then the semicircle should be even.

Then electric jigsaw or use a bladed knife to cut out a semicircle. Thus, a rectangle with a semicircle was obtained. The width of this rectangle is 100 cm, height 60 cm.

  1. Second way. First you need to prepare a soft baseboard. It is used to draw a semicircle on a sheet. Cut out a rectangle measuring 100x60 cm. Measure 50 cm from each edge and draw 2 lines. Place a mark where these lines connect.

Take a soft plinth and bend it on both sides. Thus, a semicircle is obtained. The most convex part of the semicircle should be flush with the mark. The edges of the semicircle should meet the edges of the rectangle. Draw an arc and cut it out. It is better to do the work together with an assistant.

How to make a frame

To complete the frame, you need a profile prepared earlier. The frame will be made of guides.

First you need to attach two guide profiles along the width of the opening (1000 mm). They will be installed on both sides of the opening. They are fixed with dowel screws if the walls are concrete. If the walls are made of wood, then you need to use self-tapping screws.

In order for the arch to be flush with the wall, its frame must be installed 11-12 mm deep into the opening. After installing drywall and puttying, the plane will be level.

Then, on both sides of the opening, 2 side parts of the frame, 600 mm long, are installed and fixed. To do this, you need to cut off the bottom of the profile at an angle. If this is not done, then this part of the profile will be noticeable, due to the fact that the arch at the bottom narrows.

The manufacture of the main part of the frame is completed. Next, the front arched elements are installed on it. The work is done with metal screws.

If you want to make an arch of a more complex shape, then you need to make an appropriate frame for it. Next, you will need to close the end part of the arched structure. For this purpose, it is necessary to make a frame on which the bent strip will be installed. This frame must be made from a 27x28 mm profile.

The work is performed with metal scissors, which have a spring mechanism. In order for the profile to have the shape of an arc, you need to cut it accordingly: 2 of its 3 sides. At the profile U-shape. It is necessary to turn the profile clockwise to the side, then it will be located inside the installed right part of the arch.

The second profile is fixed in the same way opposite it. Then cuts are made along the middle and upper parts of the profile every 40 mm. This creates a kind of snake of the required length. It is installed along the edge of the semicircle. The steeper the bend, the more often the cuts need to be made.
