Good day!
Today, together with the author of this article, we will try to make a bicycle rack for parking bicycles. We will use the materials available to us, which will undoubtedly make the construction cheap. Attached is a detailed description, + photo report.


To create a homemade product, we need:

Tool:

Drill;
- cutting tool (saw or hacksaw).

Materials:

PVC pipes;
- corner fittings, 12 pcs.;
- tees 4 pcs.;
- a piece of board or thick plywood, 45 x 12 cm;
- door latch;
- self-tapping screws.

Let's start by sawing a plastic pipe into the following dimensions:
- 35.56 cm, 2 pcs.;
- 13 cm, 4 pieces;
- 17.78 cm, 4 pieces;
- 16.51 cm, 2 pcs.;
- 10.16 cm. 2 pcs.;
- 5.08 cm, 10 pcs.

We will make a locking mechanism for the rack, for this we take a piece of plywood of a certain length and at a distance of 25 cm from the beginning of the board we fasten the door latch, an important point - the width of the plank should be narrower than the latch by 4 - 6 cm, the ends should protrude. We use self-tapping screws as fasteners, their length should not be thicker than plywood.





Next, we take the corner fittings, and at a distance of 3 cm, we drill holes, the ends of the latch will go into them.



Then, two tubes must be connected to these two corner fittings, each 24.13 cm long, after which we fasten a pair of tees on the other side.



Next, we attach small segments of tubes to the tees, each 5.08 cm long, and between them we make a small insert from a pipe 10.16 cm long. We assemble all the prepared parts together.



Two more details need to be made for the design. We take a small piece of pipe 5.08 cm, connect it to the corner fitting, then connect a pipe piece 24.13 cm to it, after that we put a tee, after it another insert from a pipe measuring 16.51 cm. We make such parts in the amount of two pieces .


Putting everything together.


Next, you need to assemble the following parts in sequence: we take a small piece of pipe 5.08 cm long, connect an angle fitting to it, then again insert a 5.08 cm insert and connect it to another angle fitting. We produce such parts in the amount of two pieces.


Putting all the parts together, the resulting design will be the base of the rack.


Now we take four pieces of pipe, each 17.78 cm long, and put them vertically in tees.


Next, we take a tee and an angle fitting, between them we put a small piece of pipe measuring 5.08 cm, you need to make two identical pieces. Then, when everything is ready, we put them on vertical racks.



Then we take two pieces of pipe each 35.56 cm long and insert them into the holes of the tees.


Next, we assemble the top of the rack, for this we take a couple of corner fittings, put a small piece of pipe 10.16 cm long between them, install the resulting part on vertical racks.

Bicycle parking is also in demand, as is car parking. Every bike owner wants his property to be safe. For example, if you live in an apartment, then no matter how light and comfortable your bike is on the street, it is clearly out of place in the apartment - it blocks the aisles and generally prevents you from moving in space. Such parking will be an excellent option in order to solve such a problem. In addition, they are also needed at shops, supermarkets, cafes. Thanks to their presence, you can always park your vehicle conveniently and correctly, and most importantly, safely. But such parking is a factor that is not directly dependent on you. Rack selection

Of course, an elementary design for mounting bicycles can be purchased ready-made at any hardware store and installed in a garage. But what if, for example, there is no garage? In this case, you can do everything yourself. The very concept of bicycle parking implies a design of one or more racks. One bike is supported by one rack, which is the main element of your bike rack. What characteristics should the racks meet:

  • Be tall and wide enough for the bike to be fixed in an upright position by attaching it to the frame in two places;
  • Fix the wheel, preventing the possibility of its rotation, and accordingly prevent it from tipping over;
  • Provide an opportunity to fix not only the frame, but also both wheels;
  • Take into account the possibility of installing a bicycle without a horizontal frame using front or rear parking.

The rack is very difficult to create on your own. Many production factors must be taken into account, and the main one is the material used. It must be strong and resistant to cutting and deformation. Especially if you plan to store the bike not in a garage, but, say, under a canopy installed on the street. It is also desirable that the rack be made of stainless steel, otherwise, for a good appearance, you will have to periodically paint the racks. But this option is not the best, as the paint from the racks can get on your bike and spoil its appearance.

Make sure that the racks are securely and efficiently fixed at their base.

We create our own parking

If you decide to create a bike rack for your own use, then you should choose the best place in your yard. This should be a place hidden from prying eyes and located near the house or behind it. Once you determine it, you should prepare and concrete the site, as well as the pillars that will hold the canopy. Do not install outdoor parking! Various weather conditions can harm your bike and it will soon become unusable. Every cyclist knows and remembers this. Therefore, use a high-quality canopy that will carry a protective function. You should proceed to its installation when the concreted area is dry, and the installed poles are of high quality and reliable. The canopy option refers to a quickly installed bike rack, but, nevertheless, it is of high quality and quite practical. For canopy equipment, stainless steel sheets should be selected. Such a canopy will perfectly withstand various aggressive environmental influences and various weather conditions. Stainless steel will serve you for a long and practical period and under such a canopy your transport will be under reliable protection. The best option for fixing the rack in the ground is the permanent method. It does not require much time or effort and at the same time securely fixes the bike rack in the ground. An inverted “U” model would be an excellent option for a rack. Such a rack has no sharp corners or cuts and therefore will not cause damage to your bike.

Do-it-yourself bicycle parking: what is required for this

A bike rack can be made with the following materials and tools:

  • ordinary wooden pallet;
  • a screwdriver that will also be used as a drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • Sander;
  • 2 large brackets, similar to the one shown in the photo;

  • 5 small metal corners;

  • pencil, ruler, eraser;
  • brush;
  • outdoor paints;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • colorless varnish.

How to make a bicycle parking rack

  1. Lay the pallet so that the side with the most slats is on top. Draw a line on the first rail just below the checker (a checker is a piece of timber that fastens the two sides of the pallet). Repeat the operation on all rails of the pallet.

  2. According to the marked markings, cut with an electric jigsaw. So the pallet will be divided into two parts along its upper side.

  3. Then we move on to the bottom side. To do this, turn the pallet over and mark the side and middle rails. Saw them with a jigsaw according to the markup. As a result, you will get two halves of the pallet. One of them is larger, since it includes two transverse rails. In the other half, there is only one transverse rail.

  4. Sand both parts of the pallet.

  5. Place the largest part of the pallet upright. Attach its smaller part to it horizontally. Install large brackets in the center of the side rails.

  6. Fasten the brackets with self-tapping screws.

  7. Enter from the other side of the assembled structure. Fasten the rails of both of its parts with metal corners planted on self-tapping screws.

  8. Now the future bicycle parking is to be decorated. Choose 3 paints of matching colors for this. To facilitate the painting process, unscrew the large brackets (the structure will not fall apart due to the presence of metal corners fixed at the back). However, the brackets, in principle, can not be unscrewed.

  9. The top of the bike rack can be painted with flags, for example. To do this, draw horizontal lines at a distance of 20 cm from the top. On these lines, find the midpoints and connect them to the top corners of the rails.

  10. Apply painter's tape along the markings.

  11. One of the colors paint 3 flags and 3 horizontal rails.

  12. Alternate colors when painting. Do not forget to paint the ends and sides of the rails and checkers.

  13. Let the paint dry and remove the masking tape. Erase the pencil mark.

  14. Replace the 2 large brackets if removed.

  15. Small hooks can be useful for hanging helmets. Drill holes on the sides of the inner checkers with a drill. Screw in the hooks by hand.

  16. Bicycle parking will look prettier if it is varnished. In addition, it will protect it from bad weather. After applying the varnish, the rack is completely ready.

  17. Now you can install bicycles in the finished rack.

So, you can see that do-it-yourself bicycle parking is quite easy. The described sequence of actions is only a kind of canvas on which you can impose your own ideas and improvements. If you use a bicycle to get around the city, then you have probably repeatedly encountered the problem of parking your two-wheeled vehicle. Unfortunately, parking a bike is not always such an easy task. You have to either raise it higher so that the bike lock reaches some railing or drainpipe, or vice versa, tie it in such a way that the bike can only wait for its owner in a horizontal position. Of course, this is inconvenient. It is much better when there is a specialized bike parking. Especially one on which it is not scary to leave an expensive “bike” without fear that it will be stolen, that is, located in a conspicuous place, next to a security post or under the supervision of video cameras.

The horizontal bar is more convenient in terms of mounting, but requires more installation work. The full-size version is rare, and its “undersized” counterpart is, in fact, the same compartment parking.

Longitudinal structures take up a lot of space; to organize a spacious parking lot, you will have to install 5-6 such showcases. On the other hand, the bike does not glow in front of the thieves, but lies securely.

Exquisite design solutions

Standard modifications may seem boring and do not fit into the architecture of the city. Here the inventors of "beauty and style" come to the rescue. The fantasy of designers can result in any form, but we will list only some non-standard options:

  • Ferris wheel;
  • tubercle;
  • fruit;
  • spiral;
  • guard bicycles.

The Ferris wheel is a suspended parking lot that every passer-by will notice. Its capacity, however, is small, up to six large. Free space may be at the top, but it's not scary: just turn the wheel, hang and secure the bike. Such parking is unlikely to be intended for everyone; most likely, it will be put up for employees of some organization. It is not yet possible to see it in our country, let's just admire it in the picture.



Style and originality are the main qualities of the Ferris wheel

Hillock - a road ledge with a slot for bicycle wheels. The depth allows you to put the bike on the ground quite steadily, the rear wheel goes halfway inward. This exquisite parking option is applicable only in closed areas and not yet in our country. The tubercle does not imply fastening with a lock, and thieves do not sleep!



Sophisticated but insecure solution

Fruit is a beautiful, roomy and heavy construction. Bicycles set up around the center will bring a smile and admiration. It can be mounted with both a wheel and a frame.
