Assemble a plasterboard wall. How to make a partition from plasterboard: the master speaks and shows. Choosing a profile for the frame

The layout of any living space is a purely personal matter, and what one likes may not suit others at all. In order to be able to make your own adjustments and reshape the space for yourself, there is a simple, but reliable way, which involves the use of drywall sheets, which even a beginner can work with. The main thing is to know exactly how to make a wall from of this material.

Peculiarities

A home is a real fortress for everyone, which is why it is so important to equip it in such a way as to feel confident, comfortable and good in it. Buying a new home or changing the number of occupants of an old one may require redevelopment of the space so that everyone can feel comfortable in it. In an old house, you may need additional space if there is a new addition to the family or if one of the relatives needs a private, enclosed space in which you can be alone.

The issue of layout becomes especially acute in new buildings of free type., where there are no clear boundaries of the room, and each resident can make the design that he likes. Erect brick walls it is possible, this has its advantages, because such a design will last a long time and nothing will happen to it. But building such walls is not at all easy, and most importantly, it requires large quantity materials. For those who have never laid brick, it will not be easy to cope with this task and make a high-quality and durable partition.

In view of all these circumstances, one of the simplest and most convenient options is the construction of plasterboard walls. Such designs are easy to make yourself and even non-professionals can do this process. In this matter, it is important to know what is needed to build a wall and what difficulties will be encountered.

Plasterboard wall has a number of important advantages compared to brick - it is easy to install, does not create a lot of weight on the floor due to the frame made of thin profiles and simple sheets, the thickness of which does not exceed a centimeter.

Another factor that can be considered an advantage of such structures is the possibility of erecting partitions, walls and piers without obtaining the appropriate permission for redevelopment, which will speed up the process and eliminate unnecessary procedures. To work on creating new boundaries of the premises, you need to determine what will change and where, mark the territory and calculate how much materials will be needed.

Drywall sheets are quite compact in thickness and when stacked one on top of the other, a lot of material can be brought in at once. Its weight is also light.

In order for the new walls to be warm and not allow sound to pass through, insulation and sound insulation are placed inside the structure. You can run wiring in it, install a switch and socket so that the functionality of the room does not suffer from its redevelopment.

When planning the remodeling of large-scale objects, it is important to understand how justified the use of this or that material will be, therefore you simply need to clearly understand what the pros and cons of drywall and what exactly it will allow you to create in a residential area.

Advantages and disadvantages

The use of plasterboard has made it possible to obtain fantastic possibilities that were previously extremely difficult, if not impossible, to achieve using brick as the main material and constructing walls, partitions and partitions from it.

From this material indoors you can make:

  • a wall that will divide the room;
  • a partition that will allow you to zone the space or give a decorative effect due to its intricate design;
  • complex decorative design and achieve original shapes and textures in the room.

A special feature of drywall is the ease of working with it. In order to build a wall, you need to form a frame and cover it with sheets. The frame structure can be made of either metal profiles or wood. The resulting structure is sheathed with plasterboard on both sides.

Sheets can be regular, waterproof and fireproof, their choice will be dictated by the place where the new wall or partition is created. When one wall is sheathed, glass or mineral wool must be placed inside the structure so that the walls not only help divide the room into two parts, but also serve as heating and sound protection.

Among the advantages of this material are:

  • ease of installation of structures of any type and complexity;
  • ability to erect structures of any shape and type;
  • when carrying out work on the construction of walls or partitions, you do not need to have any special or expensive tools;
  • Inside the wall you can place wiring, telephone cable, air duct, which makes it also functional;

  • the resulting wall will be absolutely flat and smooth, therefore the work on leveling it will be reduced to grouting the seams between the slabs and puttying the entire surface for further decorative work;
  • after all preparatory work the finished wall can be painted in any color, covered with wallpaper or even tiled.

This material also has its disadvantages, which include:

  • changes in the properties of the material upon contact with water, which can cause drywall to swell;
  • any load must be thought out in advance and the place where the picture, sconce, lamp or lamp is attached must be initially reinforced;
  • Too heavy objects cannot be installed on this surface, which should initially be taken into account when planning and determining the location of each decorative element.

So, using drywall you can make a wall of any shape and appearance, which you can only imagine, while the sound insulation and heat in the room will be at high level, because for this purpose the appropriate filling is placed inside the structure. Sockets with switches will allow you not to limit the possibilities of the new space.

Materials and tools

When planning to build a plasterboard wall, you need to choose the right materials and have everything with you necessary tools so that the work process takes as little time as possible and does not take a lot of effort and energy. In order for the wall to be strong enough, a frame is erected for it from metal profile. For for various purposes There are also different profiles.

Most often, two options are used for such structures:

  • A profile, but which will be attached directly to the drywall itself. It is smaller and conventionally designated as “D”.
  • The profile with which the main frame of the wall will be erected. It should be more powerful and larger, conventionally designated as “W”.

For each of the above profiles there are two more options, one of which is a support one and is designated “C”, and the second is a guide and is designated “U”. The guide profile is simpler; it has a U-shaped structure and smooth walls. The support profile is inserted into it end-to-end. It also has an additional difference from the guide in the form of ribbing, which gives greater strength to the material and does not allow it to bend spontaneously.

As the main load-bearing element frame, you need to use a supporting and smaller profile, to which the sheet of drywall will be attached. Its size is 60 by 27 millimeters. As guides to secure such a structure, you need to use a narrow guide profile with dimensions of 28 by 27 millimeters. In order to form a wall frame, you need to take a supporting and large profile with dimensions of 50 by 50, 50 by 75 or 50 by 100 millimeters. A large guide profile with dimensions 50 by 40, 75 by 40, 100 by 40 is used as a guide for this design.

There is another profile option, which is a thicker and reinforced version of the large support profile. For construction simple walls only wide profiles are used, but for more complex structures, in which it is planned to lay any communications, it is necessary to already use and thin options profiles.

In order for the profile to be connected into a frame, you need to have a direct suspension or use a universal connector. The twisting process is carried out using small flea screws, which have a drill at the end. In addition, special metal screws are used that have a countersunk head. To secure the frame to the wall, you cannot do without plastic dowels and impact screws.

The optimal thickness of plasterboard sheets for a wall is considered to be 12.5 millimeters. A mandatory element must be a wide chamfer on the side of the sheet. Depending on the room, you need to choose the appropriate material - for the kitchen and bathroom you need a moisture-resistant sheet, and for ordinary room A regular one will do. A distinctive feature will be the color - for moisture-resistant sheets it is green, for ordinary sheets it is gray.

Thus, the sheathing of a plasterboard structure is most often made from a metal profile, but in some cases wood can also be used. Depending on the type of structure, you can choose one or another material and select its thickness.

Tools that will be needed during the construction of walls made of plasterboard sheets:

  • tape measure at least 3 meters long;
  • level at 80 or 120 centimeters;
  • plumb lines;
  • fishing line with rope;

  • network or cordless screwdriver, impact drill with attachments for self-tapping screws;
  • perforator;
  • scissors that can be used to cut metal;
  • construction knife for cutting drywall sheets;
  • plasterboard float.

Frame

In order to make a high-quality and even wall from plasterboard, you will first need to erect a metal frame onto which the sheets will be attached. In order for the installation to be carried out correctly, certain patterns must be taken into account. The first step will be marking the territory where the construction of the structure is planned. The next step is to check the evenness of the corners.

Due to the fact that the walls in a room are often not very even, when building a new wall you need to focus not only on one wall, but also take into account two opposite sides. If the walls have too uneven corners, the easiest way is to cover each of them with plasterboard, which will allow them to be leveled. Only after this should you approach the installation of a new profile.

To level the posts, a laser level is best., but if it is not there, you can use a simple plumb line. Before installing the profile for the walls, ceiling and floor, you need to cover it with a special sealing tape. It will help with shock absorption and sound insulation. Before you start attaching the profiles, you need to clearly mark the places on the floor, wall and shelf where the base for the frame will be attached.

When everything is ready, you can begin to secure the guide profile, taking steps of up to one meter. If the fastening goes to wooden surface, then the distance is 50 centimeters and the clutch is made using self-tapping screws. If work is done with concrete surface, then the frame is screwed using dowels in increments of 75 centimeters. In this case, it is important to make the holes in advance.

You can attach both a load-bearing and a rack profile to the wall, but it is important that it be solid. If the height of the ceilings is more than three meters, then longer materials will have to be used for the structure. If a door is planned in a new wall, it is important to leave an opening of the required width on the floor. In the case of standard door dimensions of 80 centimeters, it is important to make the opening 8 centimeters wider in order to be able to install door frame.

The rack profile is installed from the doorway and determines its width. The first place where the profile is fixed is the floor, then the level of the entire structure is checked and it is attached to the ceiling. The racks can be installed at any pitch, it depends on the sheets of drywall. Most often they are installed as fastening tool for sheets at the edge and in the middle of the entire structure. The junction of the two sheets should lie clearly in the middle of the profile.

If racks are installed frequently, the strength of the wall increases, it will withstand a lot, but the cost of the work also increases. As for the profile framing the doorway, for greater rigidity you can place wooden beam ok or supporting profile. You can also use transverse struts, which are also reinforced with timber and installed where there is a horizontal drywall joint.

The doorway on top is additionally equipped with a lintel. The installation height depends on the door dimensions. If it is two meters, then the jumper needs to be installed at a height of two meters and five centimeters. It is made from a rack profile, which needs to be cut longer - not 20, or even 30 centimeters. Stepping back 10 or 15 centimeters from each side of the profile, you need to make a cut at 45 degrees. The bevel should face outward.

The sides that were cut need to be folded down and given a design U-shape. The vertical parts must be put on the racks and secured with metal screws. When working with sheets of drywall, it is important to use only special screws that have a press washer. It is this that helps to easily pass through the canvas without damaging the cardboard and allows the cap to go deeper to the required distance.

Step-by-step installation instructions

If you need to create a plasterboard structure with your own hands, you need to properly organize the work. The first thing that is necessary is to level the floor and walls to which the structure of the future wall will be attached. Only after this can you make markings on the floor, taking into account both parallel walls for removal correct angle for construction. If the adjacent walls will also be covered with plasterboard, then initially a sheathing is erected for them, and only after that the installation of the frame for the new wall begins.

According to the markings applied to the floor and walls, only the profile needs to be leveled, and the width of the entire wall will increase after installing the gypsum board and putty. It is definitely worth noting the location of the doorway, if provided. Once the markings on the floor are completed, the next step is to mark the wall and ceiling. To do everything perfectly accurately, it is better to use a laser level. If you don’t have one, a simple plumb line will do.

When everything is ready, it is erected metal carcass. The first profile is attached to the floor using dowels. The second stage is the construction of part of the structure on the ceiling. When both parts are ready, they are connected into a common structure using CW support posts. If there is a door or window, you need to use the same racks for them. Installation occurs from bottom to top, front side should be directed inside the window or door openings.

The next step is the installation of vertical supports from the same CW profile with a distance of 55 and 60 centimeters from each other. When everything is ready, all supports are checked with a level. After this, work begins on installing horizontal edges with the UW profile. When all this work has been completed, you can begin fastening the drywall sheets.

Based on the fact that this material has standard sizes 2 at 1.20 m, 2.50 at 1.20 m and 3 at 1.20 m, for different ceilings different dimensions will be needed. If the room is not high, then the sheet will most likely have to be cut; the same principle is used for ceilings of more than three meters, when the length will have to be increased.

To cut the sheet, use a construction knife.

The cutting process consists of the following stages:

  • laying the sheet on a surface that should be as flat and hard as possible;
  • you need to draw a line along which the cut will go using a pencil;
  • You need to cut carefully and only the cardboard itself;

  • the sheet is shifted to the edge of a flat support up to the drawn line; by applying pressure, you need to make a break along it;
  • turn the drywall over and draw the same line on the reverse side, along which make the same cut;
  • move along the cut line, press and completely break the gypsum board.

The next step will be attaching the plasterboard sheets to the finished frame.

To do this you need:

  • On the first sheet, the side chamfer is removed, for which a strip of 55 millimeters is cut off.
  • The sheets are fastened from the lower corner of the wall. It is important to make a small indentation from the floor of 10 or 15 millimeters.
  • Attaching the sheet to the sheathing using 3.5 by 35 mm self-tapping screws. The edges are attached first, and then they move to the middle. The width from screw to screw should not exceed 25 centimeters. The caps need to be slightly deeper into the surface of the sheet.

  • After installing the first drywall element, you need to measure the distance that remains to the ceiling and cut the corresponding piece.
  • Forming a chamfer on a sheet.
  • Install it on the frame.
  • It is important to fasten the following sheets in a checkerboard pattern, but there is no need to cut the chamfer. This is how the whole sheet is attached, without trimming. The fastening goes from the ceiling to the floor. In this way, the entire side of the future wall is sheathed.

Once one side has been completed, it is important to consider whether wiring and telephone cable will be needed in the new premises. If yes, then the next step will be to install them. For wiring you need to prepare corrugated pipes and run wires into them. After this, you need to make holes in the profile with a diameter of 3.5 cm and thread pipes with wires into them. It is important to decide on the holes for sockets and switches and make them in advance.

To build quality wall, you need to supplement its interior with appropriate materials, which will have sound insulation and will make you feel confident and comfortable, as if stone wall. This must be done correctly, using rolled mineral wool 6 or 12 centimeters thick. The cotton wool is placed tightly between the profiles, this will be enough for good fastening. After everything is done, you can put up the second wall.

The technology for covering it is the same. As soon as all installation work is completed, the a new stage where the finished wall is subjected to the processing process:

  • joints between plasterboard sheets are glued using sickle tape;
  • treating the wall with starting putty;
  • treating the wall with finishing putty, leveling the places where the screws are located;
  • grouting putty with sandpaper;
  • decorative wall decoration.

A false wall can be ready quite quickly, it all depends on the skill of the master and his experience. Even a beginner can assemble such a structure, it will just require him more time.

Interior walls will serve for a long time, the main thing is to monitor the conditions of their use. You can use paint, wallpaper or tiles as decoration for such elements; it all depends on the room, interior and the desires of the owners themselves.

Design

Drywall is a very convenient material to work with, especially for creating interesting and unusual images in the interior. This becomes possible due to the fact that the sheets can take on a wide variety of shapes; they can not only be cut, but also bent, for which it is enough to simply wet the sheet and give it the desired shape.

You can use this material anywhere– both in a private house and in an apartment, and in each case the design can be completely different. Options for exactly how a particular space may look may differ in style, shape, and texture. You can build structures with gypsum plasterboard in the bathroom, bedroom, corridor and any other room; only the finishing material will differ. For rooms with high humidity levels, moisture-resistant sheets are used.

A false wall is completely similar to a regular one; moreover, it can be equipped with a door and fully serve its owners to separate certain areas of the room. To fulfill this idea, when designing, leave space for an opening and later place doors in it.

To zone the space, it is not necessary to build entire walls; you can limit yourself to a small partition that will look impressive with lighting from above and decorative drawers. Making the partition not a continuous sheet allows you to give the structure lightness. Equipping with shelves will help add coziness and hide small things in a secluded place. This option is best suited for the living room, but you can also use it in the hall.

A distinctive characteristic of drywall is the ability to apply any decoration methods to it. For creating cozy atmosphere V living rooms you can glue wallpaper on the finished wall or paint it in any color and even cover it with natural or artificial stone. Last option especially suitable for a fireplace, which can also be made from gypsum plasterboard. In the kitchen or bathroom, painting is also a suitable option, but you can also lay tiles to definitely protect the walls from excess moisture and create the full feeling of a real brick wall.

When planning the construction of a plasterboard wall, you first need to prepare the room. There should not be anything superfluous in it, because it will not be easy to place a sheet 2 or 3 meters long in it. The room should be clean enough so that the plasterboard sheets do not get dirty, because then you will need to get rid of the stains so that they do not appear on the surface of the wallpaper or paint.

It is important to plan the room correctly, take into account the heating system, and if necessary, install batteries in the new living space. It is also necessary to take into account the light that will be blocked by the new structure. If the windows are located only on one side, it is important not to completely block access to them.

If it is not a wall that is being formed, but a partition, it is better to make it with shelves rather than a solid structure, which will allow you to divide the space, create a storage area, and provide light access to the second part of the room.

Examples in the interior

A plasterboard wall can become a real highlight in the interior; the main thing is to approach the process of its design correctly, choose the right materials that will help decorate the room and highlight its features.

In the bedroom, using drywall you can create an original and unique design. The wall next to the bed is designed using ornate lines; soft shapes give coziness and promote good rest. The presence of shelves allows you to store small things there and use them as a place for lamps.

For the living room, especially when it borders the kitchen and is not separated by walls, you can use an original semicircular structure that rises from the wall to the ceiling. The space is divided into two zones. In this case, use white best helps to increase the space of both zones.

A plasterboard wall can be designed immediately with a doorway to divide the space between two rooms. Doors can be single or double-leaf, with glass or solid, it depends on the design of the room.

To learn how to make a partition from plasterboard, see the following video.

Quite often in new apartments there are too many large rooms, which would be best divided into two smaller rooms. Partitions made of gypsum board help cope with this task. The hl device allows you to make an excellent partition that does not allow noise to pass through and retains heat in both newly formed rooms. Installing gypsum partitions is not a difficult task, so quite often you make a plasterboard partition yourself. You will learn how to make a partition from plasterboard in this article. Also, you can learn about the advantages of a plasterboard partition with your own hands, and get acquainted with the intricacies that the installation of plasterboard partitions with step by step instructions.

What is this article about?

Benefits of drywall

Before you start creating a plasterboard partition with your own hands, you need to answer one important question. Why is it best to use gypsum board partitions to divide a room? Why are the other options worse? The fact is that plasterboard sheets have a number of advantages over other materials.

  • Installation of plasterboard partitions is very easy, since this material is extremely easy to process.
  • The material itself is quite light, which makes it easier to install plasterboard partitions.
  • Installation of plasterboard partitions will require minimum costs time.
  • Due to the low cost of the material, installing plasterboard partitions is relatively inexpensive. So you can make a partition from plasterboard with minimal financial costs.
  • If you are wondering how to make a plasterboard partition as similar as possible to the rest of the walls in the house, then don’t worry. Plasterboard sheets are practically no different from main walls.
  • The installation of partitions from gypsum plasterboard and gypsum board allows all necessary communications to be laid directly through the frame.
  • A variety of niches and structures combine well with such artificial walls, so the design of gypsum board partitions can be called quite flexible.
  • The installation of a plasterboard partition creates much more reliable sound insulation than a conventional wall.
  • Installing gypsum board partitions is a dust-free process. Of course, cutting plasterboard sheets or gypsum fiber analogues will create a lot of debris, but the installation itself does not spread dirt around the room.

To build a partition with your own hands from plasterboard, first you need to assemble a frame from metal profiles. The installation of partitions from gypsum plasterboard also allows the construction wooden frame, but this, roughly speaking, is already last century. Therefore, it is better to install a metal assembly.

Types of profiles for creating a frame

To build the frame we need, simple ceiling profiles are not suitable, since the installation of gypsum board partitions requires more durable fastening. For such structures, special guide profiles are used, which are called PN or UW. They come in different sizes, but they all have the same length - three meters. They are used in exactly the same way as ceiling guides.

Rack profiles for partitions are called PS. It is important that the rack profiles have exactly the same width as the guides, otherwise it will not be possible to install the frame. It makes no sense to even try to install such profiles together in an apartment. Unlike guides, rack profiles have different lengths - from three to four meters. Other sizes are available for cases with high ceilings.

It is advisable to choose profiles that differ in sufficient width, but not if you are planning to build two-layer cladding. Think about this before attaching the frame.

Tools and materials

In order to make a partition you will need the following.

  • Guide metal profiles
  • Rack metal profiles
  • Tape to strengthen the fastening
  • Dowel nails to secure the gypsum structure
  • Cord release device
  • 2 meter laser or bubble level
  • Plasterboard sheets twelve and a half millimeters thick
  • Serpyanka
  • Hammer
  • Roulette
  • Stationery knife
  • Screwdriver
  • Hammer
  • Self-tapping screws for metal
  • Self-tapping screws with perss washer
  • Acrylic primer
  • Putty
  • Metal scissors
  • Spatulas

To calculate material consumption, you can use our calculator:

  • Partition in 1 layer of gypsum board
  • Partition with 2 layers of gypsum plasterboard

*Attention! All results are approximate - accuracy depends on the wall material, condition and shape of the room

Frame installation

Before you begin installing the frame, you need to draw up its diagram yourself in order to have a clear idea of what the structure of gypsum board partitions should be like. This is done quite easily, you just need to draw up a technical map of the frame. The technological map must contain all design parameters. The internal technology for drawing up the drawing may differ for everyone, but all important components must be present so that the design of the gypsum board partitions is not damaged.

Next, you should mark the walls so that you can clearly see what needs to be installed where. At this stage, a laser level will help us a lot, which will allow us to draw a fairly even drawing on the walls and floor so that we can use it as a guide during repairs. Along the location of the future partition, draw identical lines on the floor, ceiling and walls, which should be in the same plane. Once you have done this, attach metal profiles along the lines that form the base of the frame. Secure them to the wall using self-tapping screws. It is better to use a screwdriver or hammer drill for this operation.

It is important to remember that the pitch between fasteners should be approximately thirty to forty centimeters. It is these profiles that you need to pay attention to in a special wall. Especially on their fastening, since these profiles form, as it were, the foundation of the entire frame, which means they serve as support for all structures and take on the bulk of the load from the weight of the partition.

Next you need to install the vertical posts. With their location there is one important nuance. The distance between them directly depends on the width plasterboard leaf. The fact is that one plasterboard sheet should be placed on three rack-mount metal profiles. Two rack profiles are located on the sides plasterboard sheet, and the third - exactly in the middle. It is very important that two sheets located next to each other rest with their edges on the same rack profile of the frame. Based on this, you need to determine the distance between them.

The installation of rack profiles can begin from any wall on which a profile that serves as the base of the frame is installed with self-tapping screws. From it you need to count sixty centimeters, half the width plasterboard leaf. These are the places where the rack profiles need to be attached to the ceiling and floor main profile.

Creating a Doorway

Any partition needs a doorway. You won't completely block off part of the room from yourself, will you? Doorway profiles experience the most intense load, so it is important to pay attention to them Special attention. It is necessary to install the profiles with the shelf towards the opening. To give maximum strength and rigidity, you need to insert a wooden beam and secure it from the inside with self-tapping screws. The size of the beam, in this case, must fully correspond to the size of the profile, and fastenings with self-tapping screws are carried out along the side shelves.

The doorway is formed by one crossbar, which by its size determines the height of the future door. To do this, an opening in the shape of the letter P is formed from the profiles. It needs to be installed and secured with the feet up. The size of the horizontal post in this design determines the width of the doorway, and therefore the width of the door.

If you want to make an arch in the doorway, then a U-shape will not work. Approximately the same design is made, but with the appropriate configuration. You will have to bend the horizontal post. To do this you need to use metal scissors. With their help, we make cuts on the profile along the entire length. After this, it will bend easily without losing its strength.

Windows and shelves in the partition

One of the possible non-standard solutions could be the installation of windows in the partition. This is easy to do. The same principle is used as in the case of a doorway. You just need to install horizontal profiles between the racks according to the size of the window opening. The easiest way to implement this solution is to install transverse profiles between adjacent mullions, but in this case you are very limited in the size of the window. The standard width will be sixty centimeters. If you want to install more narrow window, then you will have to install more vertical ones between two horizontal profiles in order to reduce the width of the opening. To do this, cut off pieces of profiles the right size and install them between the cross-sections. This method will allow you to install as many windows of the desired size, thanks to which you have the opportunity to create unique design, built on small windows.

Installing shelves has some technical difficulties, which forces many to abandon this idea. Shelves are either built-in or hanging. Hanging shelves are much easier to install. They are installed in the same way as on an ordinary wall, but with built-in shelves everything will be much more complicated. To install them, it is necessary to change the structure of the frame. The lower part of the partition will have to be expanded, and the middle part will also need to be expanded horizontally. If you do not have sufficient funds and time, then you should not undertake such changes in the design.

Sheathing plasterboard sheets

The plating process is fairly standard. Plasterboard sheets are attached to the frame on both sides with self-tapping screws. If this is necessary, then two layers of plasterboard sheathing are installed. In this case, the partition will provide additional benefits in the form of strength, sound insulation and thermal insulation.

Plasterboard sheets will have to be cut, and if you did not make any windows or built-in shelves, then the space will only need to be left for the door. Otherwise, you will need to trim the trim so as not to block the window opening. This is not a complicated procedure, but it has one caveat. A lot of drywall will go to waste, since the remnants of the cut sheets are unlikely to be put to good use.

This completes the installation of an interior partition made of plasterboard sheets. All that remains is to putty the partition and start designing it. Here you can give free rein to your imagination or find the style you like among the examples below.

Some of the above interiors will require not only finishing, but also changes in the structure and design of the partition.

Plasterboards are simple and economical way zone the room and change the usual interior. In addition, the quality characteristics of this material are not inferior to solid walls. Very difficult to share large space to functional areas without the help of specialists. But you can do beautiful partitions from plasterboard with your own hands. Step-by-step instructions will become your real assistant and guide in this. So let's start exploring useful properties material and to gain new skills in installing ergonomic partitions.

Scope of application of plasterboard partitions

Most likely, you have heard about such a material as plasterboard sheets. Now let's find out why you should choose plasterboard interior partitions for decoration.

GKL – finishing material, consisting of three composite layers. In this "sandwich" the middle layer is made of modified gypsum to construction work with additional reinforcement. The outer layers are made of cardboard. For strength, special components are added to the plaster. Lining board is the basis for finishing coatings.

The popularity of the design is due to its simplicity. Sheets of plasterboard are fixed to a steel frame, and the internal cavities are filled with soundproofing materials. The frame is made of horizontal ones, which are attached to the ceiling and floor surfaces.

Drywall is used in many areas. After all, this material can be used to realize any configuration and size. For example, it will not be difficult to build a partition from plasterboard with.

For your information! Drywall is universal materials. Lighting sources or insulation can be mounted in surfaces made from it.

Advantages and disadvantages of plasterboard partitions

More recently, partitions in residential premises were made of heavy material, which also required complex installation work. But modern ones have become more sophisticated and attractive, thanks to the appearance of plasterboard on the construction market. Let us note its positive properties:

  • GKL partitions have excellent sound insulation and are perfectly combined with different types thermal insulation material;
  • the sheets are very light, which reduces the load on the floors;
  • the material has flat surface, which allows you to use it as a basis for gluing, or;
  • does not apply to flammable materials;
  • GCR is hygroscopic. The material perfectly absorbs moisture and allows air to pass through;
  • an important parameter is ease of installation, which will allow you to change the interior in the shortest possible time;
  • included in the sheets natural ingredients which are safe for health.

The disadvantages include low strength compared to concrete, stone or brick structures. In addition, gypsum board is not very resistant to moisture.

Materials for the manufacture of interior plasterboard partitions

The main types of materials used in the installation of plasterboard partitions are profiles and gypsum board sheets themselves.

You can choose different types of drywall:

  • standard gypsum board is distinguished by blue markings and gray. It can be wall or ceiling;
  • moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard is suitable for rooms with a high level of . It is green in color;
  • fire-resistant gypsum plasterboard is used to insulate electrical panels and. It is pink in color and has red markings.

Here's how to create a doorway:

  • a wooden beam is inserted inside the galvanized rack profile;
  • then the racks with bars are installed inside the guide profiles; using a level it is necessary to check verticality;
  • the cross beam is made from a piece of rack profile. You also need to insert a wooden beam into it;
  • With downsides crossbars and racks need to make holes for nails;
  • fastened with nails wooden elements inside racks;
  • installation of the cross member is completed by twisting it on the sides.

To thoroughly understand the technology of how to make a plasterboard partition in a room, do not forget about using a level. This device allows you to maintain the verticality of the elements during installation work.

Installation of vertical racks

An important step is the installation of vertical profiles. It is carried out as follows:

  • Marking is carried out for the rack profile, it is marked along the width of the sheet. In this case, there are 3 racks per plate, mounted vertically;
  • racks should be installed from the opening to the walls;
  • the vertical profile should be checked using a level and fixed with self-tapping screws.

Installation of horizontal bars

Step-by-step installation with instructions: how to make a partition from plasterboard with your own hands includes mounting the crossbars in the horizontal direction. To ensure structural rigidity, all vertical type guides must be fastened with horizontal jumpers. In this case, a step of 70÷80 cm is observed. The elements of the rack profile are attached to the vertical posts. After the frame is assembled, wires are laid inside. Separate holes are provided for them. The wiring is laid inside the profiles in special non-flammable insulation.

Wiring device

The advantage of gypsum plasterboard is that any type of material can be mounted in it. You need to worry about the wiring in advance when the sheathing is done on one side. The cables are led inside in special ones, which contribute to better insulation. They pass through holes in the supporting profiles. After wiring, you can lay it down.

Cutting and bending gypsum boards to the required dimensions

Knowledge of how to cut the material so as not to damage it will also come in handy. It is better to make marks on the surface of drywall with a simple pencil. Instead of a construction knife, you can use a regular stationery knife. First, cuts are made along the drawn lines, and then the material is cut. You can sand the edges with sandpaper.

You can also cut sheets using a hacksaw. If the blade is thin, then you can use it to carefully cut the sheet. has small chisels. You can use it to cut out shaped parts.

Laying gypsum board sheets on the resulting frame, fastening rules

Before making a partition from plasterboard, carefully study the technology of attaching plasterboard sheets:

  • You can use a special knife to cut the material. It is important to cut through the gypsum layer as deeply as possible, and then break the plate along the cut;
  • cut edges must be processed with a knife or plane;
  • the sheets are fixed to the guides using self-tapping screws;
  • When installing the sheet, it is important to leave a gap at the bottom. It is necessary so that the sheets do not become deformed;
  • sound insulation is carried out using isover or mineral wool. The layer is placed between the plates.

For your information! Do not forget to install the bars in those places where you plan to install shelves or niches.

Puttying and finishing

A starting layer is also applied to the stitched sheets. You can then reinforce the outer corners using perforated corners. Then putty is used. It is applied in a thin layer using two spatulas and sanded. It is better to choose putty from one manufacturer.

After the coating has dried, the finishing can be done. You can use , or .

Illustration Description of work

The location where the partition will be mounted is marked. The tape measure is stretched from the sewn surface to the area that was selected. This marking is done on both sides.

A laser level is used for precise marking. The vertical function allows you to accurately mark the markings for the side walls. The laser line must be moved to the mark that was made using a tape measure. The marking along the red line should be marked with a pencil.

The guide profile is fixed using a hammer drill and dowel nails.

The profile is fixed on the other side as well.

If the walls are old, then you can further strengthen the structure using self-tapping screws, which are screwed in like a wedge between the metal and the dowel.

You also need to draw a line along the floor between the guides. If installation is intended, then markings are also made for it. To do this, you need to measure the size of the assembled box and add 2 cm for the technical gap.

Then markings are made on the ceiling using the laser plumb function. One laser point should follow the marked line on the floor. In this case, the second one will appear on the ceiling in the right place.

The laser mark must be marked with a pencil. Using a laser level, marks are made on the ceiling every 50 cm.

According to the completed markings, you need to secure the guide profile to the ceiling. In this case, you need to bypass communications.

The profile is attached to the floor taking into account the space under the doorway.

Rack profiles are installed at intervals of 40 cm and vertically.

On one side, the profile is installed at intervals of 40 cm from the wall, and on the other, taking into account the space for the passage of communications. Also, two profiles are placed on both sides of the opening. The profiles near the doorway are placed with the back side facing out. All profiles must stand vertically. This needs to be checked again using a laser tool.

Then you need to secure the vertical posts; for this, a profile cutter is used. The profiles need to be secured on both sides.

Remodel an apartment, divide space in a private house, or simply implement something original design solution– a plasterboard wall is a universal option. And thanks to the ease of installation, even a beginner can handle its installation!

What you need to know about profiles and drywall?

The desired size of the rooms will be slightly different from the planned ones, because part of the area will be “eaten up” by the new wall. To understand what to expect in the end, you need to know the width of the profiles and the thickness of the drywall sheets (GKL).

Characteristics of profiles and their purpose

Before buying materials and starting to mark out rooms, you need to understand the purpose and differences of the profiles. So, according to their intended purpose, they are guides (PN) and rack-mounted (PS).

As the name implies, the guide profile is attached to the floor and ceiling and vertical posts are inserted into it.

  • D – rack and guide profiles 60x27 mm and 27x28 mm, respectively, designed for fixing drywall on one side only;
  • W – profiles for forming full wall, sewn on both sides;
  • C – rack profiles with a rib height of 50 mm;
  • U – guides with an edge height of 40 mm;
  • 50, 75, 100 – profile width, which should match the racks and guides.

For example, the marking CW 100 means that it is rack mounted wall profile dimensions 50x100 mm. It requires a guide profile UW 100 (40x100 mm). When choosing a profile, you need to focus on the desired thickness of insulation/sound insulation. So, for profiles with a width of 75 mm, standard insulation laid in one layer (for example, mineral wool) is suitable.

The length of the profiles also depends on their purpose. The guides are produced in one length - 3 m, but the racks can be 3, 3.5 and 4 m. The thing is that it is highly not recommended to “increase” the guides in height - this will weaken the entire structure and can lead to cracks. Therefore, before purchasing racks, you need to measure the height of the ceilings.

Drywall sheets - thickness, dimensions and characteristics

Wall plasterboard is available in a thickness of 12.5 mm - this is its minimum permissible value. The load on the wall in this case cannot exceed 40 kg per square meter. This sheet is quite enough for finishing for painting or even laying tiles with your own hands. If you plan to install heavy equipment, shelves or other interior elements, you should choose sheets:

  • 15 mm thick - for loads from 40 to 50 kg;
  • 18 mm thick – for loads up to 70 kg;
  • double sheets - for heavy loads from 70 kg.

The dimensions of the sheets are standard - width 120 cm, and height can be from 2 m to 3 m in increments of 0.5 m. Also, do not forget that only moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard is suitable for the wall in the bathroom. Fire-resistant sheets are also becoming more and more popular - they do not flare up, but slowly smolder and quickly go out in the absence of a fire source.

Based on these data, you can determine the dimensions of the future room - you need to step back at least 8.75 cm inward from the original markings (7.5 cm for the profile + 1.25 cm for drywall). If it is necessary to lay in the walls water pipes or corrugated cables large diameter, the walls are built from two rows of CD and UD profiles, and the width of the wall will depend on the selected distance between them.

Installation of plasterboard wall

Often perfect smooth walls, especially in old houses, no, so when dividing a room you need to tie it not to one, but to two opposite walls. This will minimize the visual unevenness of the future space.

If all surfaces will be covered with plasterboard, before making new wall, first, using profiles and plasterboards, the existing ones are aligned as much as possible. This will allow you to achieve even right angles, which will significantly simplify finishing work in the future.

Installation of profiles

Installing profiles is quite simple, but requires great precision. To level the racks, it is advisable to purchase a laser level to speed up the process, but you can limit yourself to a regular plumb line. Installation is carried out in stages:

  1. The profiles adjacent to the walls, floor and ceiling are covered with sealing tape in advance. It performs shock-absorbing and sound-proofing functions.
  2. PNs are attached to the floor and ceiling along a pre-marked line in increments of up to 1 m. To a wooden surface - with self-tapping screws 50 cm long, and to concrete - with dowels 75 cm long. In the second case, it is necessary to pre-drill holes with a hammer drill.
  3. Both load-bearing and rack profiles can be attached to the walls. It is important to remember that it must be continuous, so if the ceiling height is more than 3 m, only longer PS will have to be used.
  4. If a doorway is provided, a gap equal to the width of the opening is left in the floor profile in this place. It is important to decide in advance on the width of the door - if the standard leaf is 80 cm, then the doorway needs to be made 88 cm (to install the door frame).
  5. PSs begin to be installed from the doorway - they will determine its width. First, the profile is fixed to the floor, after which it is leveled and fixed to the ceiling.
  6. The installation step of the racks is any convenient. They are often placed to fasten sheets along the edges and in the center - so you need to know the dimensions of the gypsum boards in advance. The joints of the sheets should be in the middle of the PS; this must be taken into account when installing the profiles.
  7. The more frequent the spacing of the racks, the higher the strength of the wall, but also the higher the final cost. Also, to give it greater rigidity, a wooden beam or a load-bearing profile is inserted into the profiles delimiting the doorway. For the same purpose, transverse struts made of PS, reinforced with the same timber, are used. They are installed in places of horizontal joints of gypsum boards.
  8. A lintel is also installed above the doorway. The height depends on the size of the door. For a standard two-meter canvas, the height should be 205 cm.
  9. The jumper is made from PS, which is cut 20-30 cm longer. On each side, retreating 10-15 cm from the edge, respectively, cuts of 45⁰ are made on the side walls so that the bevel is directed outward. The cut sides are folded down, giving the profile a U-shape. (9) The vertical sides are placed on the posts and secured with metal screws. The corners sticking out after cutting on the horizontal part are also screwed to the posts - this ensures maximum reliability of fastening.

Important nuances of installing drywall

The sheets are attached to the profiles with special self-tapping screws with a press washer - they do not pierce the cardboard, but are well embedded in the sheet. To improve the quality of seam sealing, a chamfer is removed from the top side of all cut edges (for factory edges this is not necessary, it is already there).

In new apartments with a large area and in old apartments with an outdated layout, there is a desire to remodel the premises for yourself. From one large room you can always make two smaller ones. For these purposes, interior partitions made of plasterboard are used. They are effective solution in this situation due to its lightness and ease of installation. Also, their construction does not need to be coordinated with anyone.

Such partitions can be used to divide a nursery where children of different sexes live. Or the living room can be turned into two bedrooms. Regardless of the situation, the process of erecting plasterboard partitions in a room will be the same.

Any design must have a number of positive qualities so that it can be used in practice. Let's consider what advantages plasterboard partitions used in an apartment room can provide.

Selection of base materials

Having decided on the need to use partitions to divide the space in the room, you should understand the tools and materials that will be required for the work.

Of course, drywall comes in number one. Typical used wall plasterboard 12.5 mm thick. The sheets have a standard width of 1.2 meters and lengths of 2.5 and 3 meters. There are other parameters, but these are standard. It is better to take shorter sheets, as they are easier to carry into the house. You can take fire-resistant sheets (they have cardboard Pink colour). In this situation, they will be appropriate if the children's room is divided, and power cables will be laid in the partition itself.

Soundproofing material is fixed thanks to metal profiles

An interior partition made of plasterboard with sound insulation will allow your roommates to comfortably listen to music, watch a movie or have a quiet conversation. Since the room is divided into two parts, the use of soundproofing materials is necessary. They are installed in a metal frame.

Various profiles that can be used to assemble the frame

To assemble the frame you will need metal profiles. The standard length of such profiles ranges from 3-4 meters (shorter ones are more convenient, since it is easier to bring them into the apartment without cutting or bending). What profiles may be needed?

  1. Guides are classics of the genre. They are attached to the surface and serve as the basis for attaching other profiles. It is convenient to cut jumpers from the guides.
  2. The rack profile is a thrust element of load-bearing structures. It seems to support the entire frame, because it is used as a vertical support.
  3. Corner and ceiling profile not used when creating interior partitions.

Installation of interior partitions made of plasterboardinvolves creating a frame from profiles. But which profiles to take, because I have them all different size? It is necessary to select the size so that the rack profile fits tightly into the guide. We need to look at this first. Otherwise, if you take 28x27 mm guides and 50x50 mm racks, you won’t be able to assemble anything. If a 50x40 guide profile is used, then 50x50 mm racks will be just right.

Selection of fasteners and tools

To attach all the elements of the interior partition from gypsum plasterboard you will need:

  • dowels 6x40 mm for attaching the frame to the floor, wall and ceiling;
  • black phosphate self-tapping screws. The length of the self-tapping screw should be 25 mm if the wall plasterboard is attached in one layer. Sometimes, for greater reliability and better sound insulation of the interior partition, sheets of plasterboard are attached in two layers on top of each other. In this case, 3.5x35 mm self-tapping screws will be required for the second layer;
  • bugs (small self-tapping screws with a drill and a press washer) are used to fasten profiles to each other. They should be as short as possible (for example, 4.2x19 mm), and the cap should be as flat as possible. The presence of a drill in the “bugs” makes it easier for them to pass through two profiles.
  • Sealing tape must be used. It is installed between the surface and the frame, thereby improving the sound insulation characteristics of the assembled structure.

In addition to the fasteners, you will need special tools for the job. Without them, installation of a plasterboard interior partition will not be possible. Such tools include a screwdriver, drill, level, plumb bob, tin snips, construction knife, hammer and tape measure. However, this list is not complete or mandatory. Some tools will not be needed, but others may come in handy instead (hole saw, cutter, hammer cord, hammer drill, edge plane, etc.).

When the partition for dividing the room is assembled, it will need to be prepared for finishing. For these purposes you will need:

  • primer;
  • roller with a container for it;
  • putty;
  • serpyanka;
  • set of spatulas;
  • reinforcing corners;
  • sandpaper.

Room layout

The quality of the partition depends on the correct layout of the room.

It is necessary to decide on the place where the partition will go. Using a laser level, lines are drawn on the ceiling, walls and floor. If it is not there, then you will need to draw the first line on the ceiling. To do this, you will need a water level and a long ruler (guide profile).

Using a plumb line, the extreme points of the line on the ceiling are transferred to the floor. Now there are two points on the floor, between which another line is drawn. You can use upholstery cord. Next, the only thing left to do is to draw lines on the walls in a similar way, focusing on the mark that is already on the floor and ceiling.

When you assemble interior partitions from plasterboard with your own hands, they usually have a doorway, although not always. The space under the doorway also needs to be marked in order to know where to place the profile on the floor and where to insert additional racks with mortgages.

General rules for assembling a frame for a partition

The interior partition should not rest against the window

The base of the frame is assembled from guide profiles that are attached along the perimeter of the future partition. It is most convenient to start from the ceiling. The guide is pressed against the ceiling and a hole is drilled using a drill. Then a dowel is hammered in, which presses the guide to the surface. The fastening pitch is 0.5-1 meter, depending on the upcoming operational loads. Perhaps only a couple of hangers will be hung on the partition, or maybe it will be tiled and several massive shelves for books will be attached to it.

Don't forget to use sealing tape wherever the profiles come into contact with any surface. Thanks to this, the soundproofing characteristics of the partition are improved.

The rest of the profiles are attached to the ceiling in the same way as the guide. It is not necessary to join them together in the corners. Still, the drywall in the corners cannot be secured with self-tapping screws. Now the perimeter of the future partition made of metal profiles and drywall is ready.

Location of profiles in the frame

It is necessary to insert racks to strengthen the structure. They are inserted in increments of 40 to 60, depending on how the drywall sheets will be attached later. The fact is that the joints of the sheets must fall on the profile. Typically, racks are installed in increments of 60 cm with the expectation that the entire structure will be additionally reinforced with jumpers.

The studs should be installed sideways so that drywall can be attached to them on both sides. In other words, the ribs of the rack profile must run parallel to the plane of the frame.

When assembling an interior partition from plasterboard with your own hands, it is important that the gypsum board lies flat on the frame. Therefore, the racks are attached to the guides using special tool cutter. If it is not there, then use small metal screws. Screw in two screws in each place where the rack profile enters the guide (a total of 8 screws for each rack). However, the caps stick out a little, which is why the drywall also does not lie perfectly flat.

Jumpers make the entire frame more durable

If the vertical posts were installed in 40 cm increments, then you can do without jumpers. If the pitch is 60 cm, then you need to install several horizontal jumpers for greater structural stability. Simply cut a profile from guides that are mounted horizontally between the vertical posts. The fastening step is 50-60 cm. The jumpers are also fastened with “bugs” or using a cutter.

Jumpers can be specially installed in places where future shelves are attached to make their installation even more reliable. You can insert a wooden beam into such a jumper if you plan to hang something massive on the wall.

How to fill the void of a partition: sound insulation

Depending on the thickness of the interior plasterboard partition, you can choose how to fill the resulting void. The thickness is the sum of the width of the guide and two thicknesses of the gypsum board. The width of the guide is the same as the height of the rack profile (not to be confused with the length) and is selected individually by each person. This width gives a certain emptiness inside the partition.

You can assemble two frames for partitions at a distance of 10-20 cm from each other. They are then covered with plasterboard, and a thick partition is obtained. This step is taken when they are going to place a lot of things inside such a structure.

There is enough space inside the structure to stretch the power cable to connect an outlet or wall lamp. Such cables must be corrugated for fire safety purposes.

Soundproofing material must not be subject to combustion

In most cases, the cavity is filled with soundproofing material. Therefore, vertical racks are often installed in increments equal to the width soundproofing material. Then it fits without the need for additional trimming and does not tilt to the side. Soundproofing of interior plasterboard partitions should be carried out after one side of the structure is sheathed with plasterboard.

Soundproofing material fits comfortably into the grooves of the upper and lower profile. It will rest against the back of one post profile, but will fit well into the intercostal space of the second post. For this reason, the racks are placed so that they all face the same direction. Some people prefer to install two posts back to back so that the soundproofing fits into them and does not rest against anything.

Horizontal jumpers also serve as additional fixation for sound insulation. Although this is not all that critical, because everything will ultimately be pressed down with sheets of drywall.

Installing a doorway

It is worthwhile to dwell separately on those cases when it is necessary to install a door in interior partitions. We will not consider the process of installing the door itself, but we will focus on how to correctly make an opening for this very door.

Interior door not so heavy as to damage the partition structure

Before you do interior partition made of plasterboard, you need to decide where the door will stand. After calculating the doorway, the points where it will be located are marked on the floor. It's not just the width that needs to be taken into account door leaf, but also the door frame itself, so calculations are carried out carefully.

The floor profile is laid on both sides up to the doorway. A rack profile is inserted into each end of the guide, which goes all the way to the ceiling. Between these two profiles there will be a doorway. To indicate the height of the opening, a horizontal jumper is installed between the two profiles. All actions are carried out using a level, because errors here are especially dangerous.

It is necessary to use wooden blocks that are inserted into the racks and lintel. They must fit tightly into the profile, after which they are fixed with self-tapping screws. The upper jumper is additionally fixed with nails, two of which are driven into its end. The resulting doorway, although it came out of a metal profile, was reinforced with wooden blocks.

Step-by-step plasterboard covering

When the frame of the interior partition is ready, then it’s just a matter of small things, because there is nothing complicated about covering with plasterboard.

Preparation for finishing

The resulting interior partition cannot remain in this form. It should be prepared for finishing.

Self-tapping screw caps do not require preliminary priming

All self-tapping screw heads must be puttied. The joints between sheets of drywall are first primed and then puttied. At the same time, priming makes sense only if the edges of the sheets have been chamfered. Using a primer will improve the adhesion of the starting putty to the gypsum board surface. After applying the putty to the joints, you need to use a serpyanka, which will prevent the putty from cracking in these places in the future. The corner parts of the interior partition must be puttied and reinforced with a special reinforcing corner.

When the putty dries, you will need to treat it with sandpaper to remove any bumps and sagging that could have formed during the work. After this, the entire plasterboard interior partition is primed and puttied. Second layer if necessary finishing putty can also be treated with sandpaper.

Now the interior partition can be painted or covered with wallpaper of your choice.
