What do you need to build furniture?

If you are planning to create a table for your home with your own hands from metal, then you will need the following types of materials:

  • metal profile (instead of it it is allowed to take rolled metal);
  • primer and paint for processing metal surfaces;
  • tools for uniform distribution of liquid substances (brushes and rollers will come in handy);
  • chalk and a smooth surface (this is useful for creating a template);
  • countertop, as well as bars and adhesive for its secure fixation.

You can not do without special tools:

  • welding fixture;
  • a grinder equipped with a metal brush (if it is not available, it is allowed to use a metal brush without a grinder);
  • saw for working with metal;
  • a hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • fasteners, in particular, bolts and self-tapping screws.

You may need additional devices, it all depends on which option you prefer.

How to create a table from a profile pipe?

Creating furniture from a profile pipe with your own hands is not so difficult. View the photos on our website to decide how the finished model should look, and then get down to business.

The process consists of the following steps:

  1. Find suitable metal corners. We weld them in such a way that we get a regular triangle. We create an identical figure from tubes, the length of which is 38.5 cm.
  2. Using a drill, he makes holes in the frame, due to which the frame will be attached to the countertop.
  3. We bend metal tubes (length 73 cm) with a hammer, holding the workpieces with a vise. You can not work with the legs, you can not touch them, however, then their end parts will have to be separated at a certain angle. We attach the table legs prepared in this way to the frame, and attach the metal balls to their ends. To weld individual steel elements, it is recommended to use specialized equipment. Only it is able to provide a high-quality connection of welded elements.
  4. Cut out the countertop using the right material. We process the extreme parts with sandpaper (you can also use a grinder for this purpose). We attach the workpiece to the legs using fasteners. We insert the screws into the holes made on the iron frame.

This work can be considered completed. Please note that the tabletop can be made from various materials. This factor has an impact on which mounting method is better to choose. Sometimes people create unique countertops based on corrugated board, the process of creating such a product is quite complicated, and therefore it is rarely chosen.

It is much easier to make a tabletop out of plastic or wood, because the listed materials are quite easy to process, in addition, they are quite reliable.

How to make a console type table?

If desired, you can make furniture using the console. Such a product will be a stylish addition to any home, regardless of its size. Finished tables are small in width, therefore, do not take up too much space. Use a quality console to get a reliable and durable interior element.

The process of creating a table is not too complicated, and therefore anyone can create it, even if he is not a carpentry master. If you want to make furniture of this type, then use the proposed instructions:

  1. We purchase all the necessary tools and fixtures, especially the console and mounting hardware.
  2. We make legs, which without fail must be massive and strong in order to withstand a large table. We buy blanks for their manufacture in a store that sells household goods.
  3. We prepare boards for further processing. We take them (parameters: length - 3 m; width - 20 cm) and separate them with a saw. As a result, we get 4 blanks. You will also need the same number of boards, but with different sizes (parameters: length 145 cm, thickness - 10 cm). We install them in a vertical position on the workpiece made. Along the edges we place 4 square blanks with a side of 10 cm. Combine the individual structural elements with screws. We repeat the procedure according to the described scheme to get a couple more blanks (in the future they will form the upper and lower parts of the product).
  4. We attach the legs.
  5. We indent 2.5 cm from the edge, lay the workpiece on top and lubricate with glue for carpentry. We process both sides with an adhesive, and then apply a board on top. We fix the finished workpiece in the place where it is supposed to be with screws.
  6. We form the lower console by repeating the procedure presented above.

At the final stage, paint the finished product and decorate the console to your taste. If you're running out of ideas, check out the photos here to find the perfect design for your new DIY furniture.

Welding work that is not carried out on a special basis is convenient only when connecting small parts or structures, the largest dimension of which does not exceed 0.8 ... 1 m. In other cases, it is good to have a welder's table. At home, household models of tables are more functional, and in large industries, combined welding and assembly tables are popular, on which you can perform other work with metal.

Basic technological requirements for welding tables

Since at home the main attention is required to be paid to convenience and safety, the welder's household tables include:

  1. Exhaust hoods (or semi-umbrellas), which provide reliable suction of gases and dust. The suction sockets are equipped with a fine steel mesh.
  2. The fan, which is usually installed on the left at the level of 1300…1500 mm, on the side of the table.
  3. Edging copper strips used to clean the electrode from welding beads.
  4. A hinged panel for local lighting of the welding area (it is worth recalling that the voltage of such a network cannot be more than 36 V, so a step-down transformer is also required).
  5. Two swivel cassettes, one of which is necessary for laying electrodes, and the second for improvised tools: a hammer, chisel, steel brush, etc.
  6. A closed bedside table for storing tools during significant breaks in work.
  7. Special fastenings for grounding devices.

The main requirements also include the absence of flammable materials in the design and those that, when heated, can release toxic substances into the atmosphere. Of the ergonomic requirements, the following should be highlighted:

  • The height of the welding table should be within 700 ... 850 mm;
  • Maximum dimensions of the working area - no more than 1000 × 800 mm;
  • The total height of the table is no more than 1400…1500 mm.

With an insufficient area of \u200b\u200bthe home workshop, welding tables can be swivel or even folding. In this case, provide adequate rigidity to the fixture. In particular, linear stiffness cannot be more than 1 ... 2 mm per 1 meter of the length of the working area, and angular - 0.5 ... 1 0.

There are two types of equipment under consideration - ordinary welder's tables, on which you can perform welding operations of medium complexity, moreover, periodically, and semi-professional welding and assembly tables, designed to solve more demanding tasks.

Welding table design

Conventional welding tables are distinguished by their simplicity of execution, and, accordingly, lower price. At the same time, they are reliable and provide a sufficient level of convenience for the operator. These tables consist of:

  1. Welded from steel corners of a strong frame.
  2. Six adjustable feet.
  3. Curbstones on the left side of the table, which has several sections adapted for storing tools.
  4. Tool plate equipped with T-slots for fixing workpieces.
  5. Open shelves on the right side of the table, where you can temporarily place large equipment.
  6. dust tray.
  7. Brackets for welding wires (usually there are several options for their location - behind or on the side, and at different angles).
  8. Water tanks (in extreme cases - the presence of a stand for it).

Preparing these tables for use is simple. It is necessary to align the stability of the table in the vertical and horizontal directions, using a level and adjustable supports, carefully ground the structure, adjust the location and angle of the ventilation suction, then connect the inverter and check the reliability of all its elements. Other types of welding machines will additionally require a mobile fan on a trolley, equipped with a suction at least 2 m long, and a magnetic holder for fixing on the frame. The length of the supply cable of such a fan should not be less than 4 ... 5 m. The unit drive power is set depending on the required performance of the air head. For example, with a volume of polluted air suction up to 2000 m 3 / h, a fan with a power of up to 0.8 kW is sufficient, with a heat-resistant inlet pipe diameter of up to 150 mm.

An image of such a welder's table is shown in the figure below. The price of the device complete with a fan is (without cleaning filters) 36,000 ... 42,000 rubles.

Semi-professional models

Welding and assembly tables have a more complex design and equipment. Their ergonomic parameters do not differ from conventional welding tables, but manufacturers provide for the mechanization of some operations, the possibility of installing and using metalworking heads (for drilling, milling, grinding, etc.), as well as built-in ventilation and air duct systems. An important technological feature of such devices is the ability to rotate the table, which allows the welder to weld high-precision seams without bypassing the structure to be joined during work. For sufficient rigidity, it is desirable to use the embedding of the table supports in the concrete base of the workshop.

Welding and assembly tables, in addition, in most cases, are equipped with a quick-mounting vice, a set of clamping clamps, as well as a swivel stand for a welding inverter.

The criteria for the correct choice of design are:

  • The presence of lining the working area with sheets of non-combustible material. Previously, asbestos was used for these purposes, but supersil or basalt cardboard are ecologically more modern;
  • Table weight. The required rigidity of the structure is fully ensured only if its mass is at least 180 ... 200 kg;
  • Lighting sources that do not create glare when turned on (most designs of welding helmets do not absorb such glare). Therefore, the use of fashionable energy-saving lamps in this case is excluded;
  • The presence of a table rotation mechanism (usually provided for execution with a tool plate, round in plan);
  • Built-in ventilation of the workplace.

Tables on which desktop milling or drilling machines are supposed to be installed are provided with appropriate grooves in the plate, and their design is carried out taking into account possible dynamic loads. Other requirements for the design of such devices are regulated by the requirements of GOST 21694. The minimum price for semi-professional welder's tables is 62,000 ... 65,000 rubles.

DIY welding table

Before work, it is necessary to prepare the workplace: install a fan, connect an air duct, equip a ground loop.

The most budgetary and affordable for do-it-yourself manufacturing is the design, the drawing of which is shown in the figure. Here are also the necessary raw materials by assortment and quantity.

Some manuals indicate the possibility of using a plywood or chipboard base plate (in the latter case, warpage will be noticeably less), but this will complicate the supply of mass to the device.

As a tool plate, you can use decommissioned plates from USP, which already have a system of precise T-slots. On one side, it is possible to provide for the installation of a crate, which is useful when welding spatial and long structures.

All elements used must be thoroughly cleaned of corrosion. All parts are processed "in size", the necessary chamfers are prepared on milling machines.

The assembly of the table is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. The frame is welded under the tool head, following the plane of all surfaces: deviations should not exceed 1 mm. When welding, stiffness jumpers are provided. The seams are cleaned from the remnants of the burr.
  2. Mount the frame on the table supports. To reinforce the corners, strip steel plates are used.
  3. M12 bolts are used to connect the non-metallic substrate to the tool plate.
  4. All welds are treated with anti-corrosion compounds.
  5. They install various additional options, which can be wheels with brakes, a welding torch holder, shelves for welding accessories.

A convenient and high-quality workbench for welding will facilitate the work of the welder. It can be equipped with shelves and tool boxes, place a holder, clamps on it, and modern models are even equipped with a ventilation system. The simplest table or workbench can be made by hand.

The dimensions of the welding table are selected individually. Before preparing drawings or a sketch, you need to familiarize yourself with the labor protection requirements for this design.

Working with electric welding equipment poses a health hazard not only to the welder, but also to others:

  • Welding radiation causes stinging of the eyes and may cause damage to the eyes. Therefore, when working, it is necessary to close the work area with screens. This way you protect yourself and those around you;
  • Welding fumes also pose a hazard. Therefore, an exhaust hood should be equipped at the post or work should be carried out in places with good natural ventilation;
  • work with electrical equipment requires the provision of a reliable system of grounding devices. The room should be dry, with high humidity it is better to work in dielectric shoes;
  • rags and other combustible substances must be kept in a closed box. When arranging a workshop in a garage, be sure to remove gasoline and oils from the place of welding.

Only by providing safe conditions for carrying out electric and gas welding work can one begin to manufacture a welding table. It can be made the simplest stationary or wheels can be welded. There are models of rotary welding tables, but it will be more difficult to carry out such a design on your own. In it, the tabletop rotates in a vertical plane.

Part preparation

Consider two options for a table that can be made at home. The entire cycle of work is divided into several stages. Before starting work, make sure that the cables, power tools and protective clothing are in good condition. In this case, special attention should be paid to safety glasses and a welding mask.

The most versatile and simple will be the construction of a profile pipe. Let its height be 900 mm, length 1100, and width 660.

To reduce the cost of the design of the welding table, it is necessary to install a plywood table top with thin metal sheathing. The best countertop is, of course, a metal plate with a thickness of at least 8 mm. But this is a very costly option.

For work you will need:

  • profile pipe with a shelf 40 mm - 10 m;
  • steel strip 40 mm wide, thickness not less than 5 mm - not less than 200 mm;
  • a sheet of plywood 1100 mm long and 660 wide;
  • sheet steel no more than 2 mm thick for countertop sheathing. It needs to be made a little larger, taking into account the bends;
  • kerchiefs made of sheet steel 2 mm.

In this version of the welding table, several shelves are provided, but boxes can be made. For shelves you will need a corner with shelves 30 mm, 600 mm long. For 2 shelves you will need 4 blanks. The shelves themselves are best made from DSP sheets.

Bulgarian cut the workpiece in size. The legs will require 4 blanks of 840 mm each from a profile pipe. For the upper frame, you need to prepare 2 pieces of 1100 mm and 3 of 580 mm.

The lower jumpers of the welding table will require one piece of 1020 mm and 2 of 580 mm. For shelves, 4 parts of 580 mm are cut from the corner.

After the cut, a burr remains, it must be removed either with a grinder or a file. Having completed the preparatory work, we proceed to the assembly of the welding table.

Assembly of the upper frame

To assemble the upper frame of the welding table, lay out the workpiece on a flat surface. The jumpers are inserted between the long frame blank, so they are made 80 mm smaller (taking into account 2 longitudinal profiles). The net size of the structure will be exactly 1100/660. When using another profile pipe or rolled metal, this factor must be taken into account.

Laying out in a plane, they grab all the corners by 1 tack, measure the diagonal and grab from all sides. After that, measure the diagonal again and check that all the details are in the same plane. As experts say, "so that there is no propeller." Only now all joints are scalded.

At a distance of plywood thickness from the top, scarves are welded from the inside. They will stiffen the frame and serve as stops for the plywood countertop.

final assembly

For final assembly, turn the frame face down and expose the legs of the welding table. You can use a building level, but a simple plumb line will do. They grab the legs, and once again check the correct installation, knock with a hammer to the desired position and boil all the joints. For greater reliability of welding, scarves are cooked on the inside. They will serve as stiffeners.

Nickels from the strip are welded to the ends of the legs of the welding table. Then the table is turned over and at a distance of 150-200 mm from the bottom, the lower jumpers are welded. Mark the attachment points of the shelves and cook the corners. The skeleton of a simple design of the welding table is ready. It remains to clean all the joints with a grinder and check the seams.

Next, all surfaces of the welding table are degreased with a solvent and the first layer of primer is applied. After drying, install the countertop. Before installation, plywood must be treated with impregnation. From above, plywood is covered with a sheet of metal with curved edges. They grab the metal in several places to the frame.

After drying, if desired, you can paint the table with heat-resistant paint, or you can do without painting. At the last stage, shelves are installed.

The entire manufacturing process is shown in the video.

mobile design

The welding table can be made a little smaller and equipped with legs with welded wheels. It will be mobile.

A home-made table is in no way inferior in reliability and quality to an industrial one, provided that the work is done without haste and taking into account all the recommendations. The disadvantage of this option is instability during welding and metalwork.

The manufacturing process of a mobile table is the same as a stationary one, but you will need to make mounting holes for the wheels.

After completing the installation work, it remains to equip the structure. Equipment may vary. But be sure to have a vice and various clamps on the welding table. There are quite a few structures. It is possible to make a turntable for welding mounted on one leg fixed to a rigid base. But the meaning of these designs is the same - they make the work of the welder more convenient and simple.

If welding is carried out "on the knee", it is better not to remember the quality of the seams. To make them strong and neat, you need a welding table. It is more comfortable to work on it, since the details are fixed if necessary. For a garage where there is not enough space, a folding option is suitable.

Before designing and manufacturing, it is useful to know what the requirements for the table are. These include:

  • mandatory installation above the workplace of forced exhaust for exhaust gases;
  • the fan is installed on the left at a height of 1.3 - 1.5 m;
  • to clean the electrodes, a copper strip edging is installed on the welder's table;
  • installation of shelves and boxes for electrodes and tools;
  • fastening for connection of grounding;
  • it is forbidden to use combustible materials in the structure and emit harmful substances when heated;
  • mandatory lighting of the working area with a 36 V lamp.

Varieties of tables for welding

Depending on the complexity and frequency of the work performed, the design of the welding table is selected. When performing simple operations periodically, a simple option is selected. For the repair and manufacture of complex structures, an assembly and assembly semi-professional version will be required.

Simple welding table

Such designs are durable, easy to manufacture, convenient to work with. The basis of the design is a rigid frame, to which 4 racks from a profile pipe or corner are welded. Below, at a distance of 20 cm from the floor, they are fastened with crossbars. A tabletop with grooves for clamps is installed on top. A bracket for the welding cable is welded to the frame with the table top, and under it there will be a waste tray. On the side, you can place a cabinet with shelves for folding large equipment. Next to it is a stand for a container of water.

Semi-professional welding table

This is a more complex design, equipped with additional equipment. In terms of convenience, it does not differ from the simple type, but with installed metalworking heads for drilling, milling, grinding and other operations. It is possible to install built-in ventilation systems and air ducts. The support legs of the semi-professional tables are fixed to the floor with anchor bolts or embedded in concrete. The presence of a rotating worktop allows you to weld complex structures from one place. A turntable is provided for installing the inverter. The kit also includes removable yews and clamps of various sizes.

Which welding table to choose

The choice depends on the available space and the tasks to be solved. In a cramped garage, occasional welding jobs can be done at the folding welding bench. If space allows, it will be more convenient to have a stationary or mobile table of a simple type. Comfort lovers are advised to purchase or make their own turntable in the shape of a circle, mounted on a rigidly fixed support. For the production of complex repairs, so that everything is at hand, it is better to choose a desktop with machines installed on it. Factory models are equipped with various additional devices, so in order not to overpay, think about how important they are to you.

How to choose a convenient and reliable design will be prompted by the recommendations of experts:

  • the working area must be fenced with a protective screen made of fire-resistant material;
  • to ensure reliable rigidity of the structure, its weight must be at least 180 - 200 kg;
  • lighting should not create glare, so the use of energy-saving lamps is excluded, since their light is not absorbed by the glass of the mask;
  • turntable is welcome;
  • if there is no built-in ventilation, a mobile fan with magnetic suction cups on the suction arm must be used.

Making a welding table with your own hands

Assembling a welding table with your own hands not only saves the family budget, but also allows you to make it for specific operating conditions.

Necessary tools and fixtures

To make a welding table yourself, you need to stock up:

  • pliers;
  • tape measure;
  • chalk;
  • ruler;
  • hammer;
  • square;
  • wire cutters;
  • three C-shaped clamps;
  • grinder or, in extreme cases, a hacksaw;
  • welding machine with electrodes;
  • taps with a collar for threading;
  • milling or turning machine, which will be chamfered.

Determining the size of the table

It is not worth using industrial drawings of the welding table. Their implementation at home is difficult due to the impossibility of using factory technologies. But you can take it as a basis to draw up your project. It indicates the overall dimensions and dimensions of all parts.

In order for the table to be comfortable for work, ergonomic requirements must be met:

  • the maximum dimensions of the working area are not more than 1 × 0.8 m;
  • the height of the countertop should not be lower than 0.7 m, but not higher than 0.85 m;
  • the total height, taking into account the protective fence, is not more than 1.4 - 1.5 m.

Preparation and cutting

You can make a homemade welding table from improvised materials: corners, shaped pipes, sheet iron. First, the grinder is cut off:

  • 4 corners 25 × 25 mm, 0.46 m long with ends cut at an angle of 45⁰, sides of shelf frames;
  • 2 iron sheets 3 mm thick, 44.5 × 75 cm in size for shelves;
  • 4 pieces of a profile pipe 30 × 230 × 21.5 mm, 76 cm long for legs;
  • 4 corners 25 × 225 0.76 m long with ends cut at an angle of 45⁰, longitudinal sides of shelf frames;
  • 2 profile sections 60 × 240 × 25 1 m long and 2 0.72 m in size for the tabletop frame;
  • 8 profiles 40 × 230 × 21.5 0.72 m long per tabletop;
  • 2 wheel supports with stoppers and 2 without them;
  • 4 corners 30 × 30 for stiffening belt.

Countertop manufacturing

Its frame is welded from a profile pipe 60 × 240. The tabletop for the welding table itself is assembled from a 40 × 230 profile. The segments are welded in such a way that the distances between them are equal. The result is a table surface with gaps that are used to install clamps and holders. If it is necessary to periodically lengthen the tabletop, folding panels are attached to its sides.

Making table legs

The legs are welded into the corners of the tabletop frame. They are pre-grabbed at several points and checked with a square and ruler angles. In relation to the frame, they should be 90⁰. If perpendicularity is not observed, the structure will be unstable. Therefore, distortions are eliminated and continuous seams are applied. If the table is not expected to be moved frequently, pieces of square-shaped sheet steel are welded on the bottom of the legs to increase stability.

Welding table stiffening belt

To give the structure maximum strength, you need to make an additional stiffening belt. It is made from a corner 30 × 30, the segments of which are welded to the legs at a distance of 20 - 30 cm from the floor. A bunch of supports is made in a circle, reinforcing elements are installed so that the acute angle is outside.

protective screen

It does not allow splashes from welding and particles formed during cleaning of seams to scatter. The frame for the protective screen is made of light corners, and it is made of a thin steel sheet. It is desirable to make such a fence of the working area with side walls. Pins are welded to the frame, which, during installation, enter the holes drilled in the table top. If it is necessary to place large-sized parts, the screen is removed.

Wheels and handle for moving

Wheels will be required for a mobile table if you plan to move it often. If they are placed on all 4 legs, the pair must be with stoppers to securely fix the position of the table in place. When using wheels from shopping carts, they are installed on two side supports. Fixation is carried out by another pair of legs, with rectangular metal plates welded to them. To move such a table, you have to lift the edge where there are no wheels.

For ease of movement, one or 2 handles are welded to the tabletop frame. They are made from a rod with a diameter of 10 - 12 mm in the form of the letter P. So that the handles do not interfere with them, they are welded from below.

Tool shelf

It can be made from metal sheets fixed on the corners of the stiffening belt. It is not forbidden to use chipboard, OSB, plywood. However, then under the tabletop it is necessary to weld an inclined metal tray with sides. It will collect scale and debris falling through the gaps of the table. Additional shelves are welded from corners 25 × 25 and 25 × 225. Some craftsmen make built-in cabinets with shelves and drawers.

Table painting

Making a welding table with your own hands is completed by painting it. Before applying the coating, it is necessary to clean the welding seams and treat them with an anti-corrosion compound. If painting is planned using an airbrush or spray cans, the wheels must be wrapped with polyethylene, otherwise they will jam. Paint, of course, should be on metal. To finish the welding table, heat-resistant enamels are suitable, which are used to paint heating radiators. The iron minium proved to be quite good. If after application it is annealed with a burner until charring, a heat-resistant durable coating is formed.

The specialty of a welder belongs to the category of hazardous professions, as he is subjected to:

  • exposure to high temperature;
  • hazards from the spread of splashes of molten metal;
  • high-intensity ultraviolet radiation;
  • the possibility of electric shock;
  • risk of injury from falling parts.

To eliminate the consequences of the impact of these negative factors, you need to follow the rules developed by experts:

  • the room for work should be equipped with effective supply and exhaust ventilation;
  • when starting work, it is necessary to make sure that there is no damage to the equipment and insulation, to check how reliable the contact connections are;
  • in the process of performing work, use a welding mask, a respirator, protective gloves with leggings, clothing and footwear made of refractory material;
  • it is unacceptable to clutter up the table for welding and approaches to it with foreign objects;
  • work from unsuitable supports is prohibited;
  • parts intended for welding must be fastened with special devices;
  • when working in rooms where fuels, lubricants and flammable materials are stored, the distance to them from the working area must be at least 5 m.

In order for the working conditions to be comfortable and safe, the welding mounting table must be equipped with auxiliary devices. Clamps are used to ensure the accuracy of welding, with which the parts are fixed. Clamps workpieces are attached at an angle to each other. If small parts cannot be fixed mechanically, then a magnetic base is used to fix them. But when using it, it is necessary to take into account its weight and the mass of the parts to be welded.

Video of making a welding table

In order for the welding seam to be neat and strong, the work to be comfortable and safe, the welder needs a well-equipped workplace. Working on random supports or on the floor does not make it possible to conveniently position the parts to be welded and fix them securely. For this, equipment such as a welding table is intended. It can be purchased ready-made, or you can make it yourself.

Requirements for the welding table

Before starting to design and manufacture a welding table, it is necessary to determine the requirements for it:

  • Structural rigidity. It should not "walk" under the weight of massive or bulky welded structures.
  • Reliability of fixing workpieces.
  • Convenience of work of the welder.
  • Shelves for welding equipment, welding materials.
  • Box for rarely used tools.

In addition to the basic requirements, you can provide additional options:

  • exhaust ventilation to remove welding gases;
  • lighting of the working area - 36 volts or LED.

In addition, it is important that no combustible materials are used.

Drawings of the welding table

It is possible to manufacture a welder's table according to industrial drawings. However, they are usually overloaded with technological and production information that is irrelevant for a home master. A sketch drawing can be made independently, the main thing is to accurately calculate and designate both the overall dimensions and the dimensions of each workpiece.

When designing a welding table, its height is torn out a little below 80 cm - then the welder will be in the most comfortable position for work.

Necessary tools and materials

In the home workshop, they often strive to get by with improvised materials. However, in order to meet the strength and stability requirements formulated above, the following should be used for racks:

  • profile with a section of at least 60 × 60 mm and a wall thickness of 4 mm;
  • I-beam or corner 60 × 60, but already with a thickness of 4 mm.

The shelf and drawers can be made from a lighter profile.

The tabletop is assembled from profiled rolled products. The gaps between them will be used to fix the parts to be welded with clamps or tongs.

For a protective screen, use:

  • base frame - light profile;
  • the screen itself is a metal sheet 0.4-1.0 mm.

The protective screen also has side rails.

A welding table with a fastening system should be equipped with additional devices that help to fasten the workpieces to the table and to each other:

  • clamps;
  • clamps;
  • magnetic base plate for attaching small parts.

This equipment on the table for welding with your own hands cannot be made, you will have to buy it.

Welding table design

There are several types of structures. The most common:

  • amateur, for episodic welding, small structures by a home craftsman;
  • semi-professional assembly and welding, for complex operations

For a do-it-yourself profile pipe table, the following dimensions are recommended:

  • the height of the working surface from the floor is 70-85 cm;
  • the dimensions of the working surface are at least 80 × 100 cm;
  • the height of the protective box is at least 140 cm from the floor.

Simple welding table

This design is durable, easy to manufacture, convenient to use for small welding volumes. It consists of a rigidly welded metal frame of profile 60*60. Four racks are attached to it. At 20 cm from the floor, they are connected by corners 20 * 20. On top of the frame, elements of the tabletop are installed, forming a reliable support for the workpieces to be joined and provided with grooves for their fastening.

Hooks for wires from the welding machine are welded to the frame, and a small tray for scale and dust is placed under the work surface.

On one side of the table for welding, a cabinet made of a thin metal sheet is installed for storing small tools. Here I weld a stand for a tank of water.

Semi-professional welding table

It is a welding and assembly post designed to improve the convenience of welding. Allows not only to cook, but also to carry out the accompanying mechanical processing.

This table includes:

  • rotary working platforms;
  • installation of drilling or milling equipment;
  • quick-detachable locksmith vice;
  • swivel attachments for mounting the welding machine;
  • exhaust ventilation;
  • flexible illumination of the working area;
  • anchoring to concrete floor.

The purpose of all these improvements is to enable the welder to work from a comfortable, non-fatiguing posture and save time on the operation of removing and placing the product on the post. Pays off with large volumes of work

Making a welding table

Let's take a closer look at the production process of a simple do-it-yourself welding table. It is made of a rectangular metal profile and a corner. Dimensions can be changed depending on the needs of a particular home master.

Decide on the size of the table

For free placement of workpieces, convenience and safety during work, we select the following sizes:

  • the height of the floor tabletop is 75 cm;
  • countertop dimensions - 80 × 100 cm;
  • the height of the protective screen is 140 cm from the floor.

Material preparation and cutting

For the manufacture of the structure you will need:

  • corner 25 × 25, length 46 cm, ends cut at 45 ° - 4 pcs.;
  • corner 25 × 225, length 76 cm, ends cut at 45 ° - 4 pcs.;
  • profile 30 × 230 × 21.5, length 76 cm - 4 pcs. (for legs);
  • steel sheet 3 mm 44.5 × 75 cm - 2 pcs. (for shelves);
  • profile 60 × 240 × 22 mm - length 100 cm - 2 pcs.;
  • profile 60 × 240 × 22 mm - length 72 cm - 2 pcs.;
  • profile 40×230×21.5 length 72 cm - 8 pcs. ;
  • swivel wheel support with a stopper - 2 pcs.;
  • wheel support - 2 pcs.

The rolled metal is cut with a grinder or a cut-off saw, carefully cleaned of burrs.

Countertop manufacturing

Along the contour, the tabletop is made from a 60 × 240 profile. When assembling, you should monitor the equality of the angles and diagonals of the contour.

The inner grating is assembled from 30×230 profile segments and welded to the contour at equal distances from each other. All welds should be carefully cleaned with an angle grinder.

From the side of the short sides to the bottom of the tabletop, you can weld handles from a bar of 8-12 mm. This will allow you to move the table from place to place.

The legs are welded to the corners of the tabletop frame. First, grab the legs by spot welding and carefully check the angles of the legs with a coal and a metal ruler. They must be strictly perpendicular to the plane of the frame. If distortion is found, it should be corrected. Otherwise, the table will be unstable. Wheel mounts can be welded on the bottom of the legs. This is convenient if the table is planned to be moved frequently from place to place. If the place is permanent, then it is better to abandon the wheels that add instability and weld small squares of metal to increase stability and protect the floor from damage.

After aligning the legs, they must be permanently welded and fastened with additional strapping from light corners 20 cm from the ends. They are welded with the flat side down, and a shelf of OSB is placed in the resulting recess. Welding equipment and materials, a mask, etc. are placed on it.

Several brackets and hooks can also be welded to the legs for hanging cables, a holder and other accessories. They are made from a steel bar of large nails. Carefully clean them to remove sharp edges.

protective box

The protective box serves to prevent the spread of splashes of molten metal during welding and solid waste during stripping. The frame is made of a light corner, and the box itself is made of sheet metal. It is attached to the table top with pins. When working with parts that protrude beyond the dimensions of the table, the box is removed.

Under the tabletop, you can weld a tray with low sides to collect scale when cleaning the seams. The tray is installed with some inclination so that the garbage is gradually collected towards its lower edge.

Tools are stored in a wooden or metal box. Instead, you can weld a cabinet with shelves.

Assembly

For assembly work you will need:

  • welding machine;
  • electrodes;
  • grinder with a cutting disc and a cleaning disc;
  • a set of manual metalwork tools;
  • ruler 1 m, corner, tape measure.

Assembly is carried out in the following order:

  • cutting blanks, checking dimensions and angles according to a sketch drawing;
  • tabletop assembly: first the contour, then the ribs;
  • attaching legs;
  • welding the bottom trim;
  • fastening wheels or support platforms;
  • assembly of a protective box;
  • tray installation;
  • final cleaning of seams, burrs and irregularities;
  • applying primer and paint;
  • OSB sheet installation.

Additionally, you can weld handles for moving and hooks for wires.

Precautions when working at the welding table

Welding has several harmful factors that can damage human health:

  • heat;
  • scattering of hot splashes;
  • ultraviolet radiation of high intensity;
  • electric shock;
  • falling heavy objects.

To avoid harmful effects, the following rules should be observed:

  • Work should be carried out in well-ventilated rooms equipped with both supply and exhaust forced ventilation.
  • Before starting work, carefully inspect the equipment for the absence of mechanical damage, insulation violations, loose contacts.
  • During work, be sure to use personal protective equipment: a welder's mask, a respirator, split protective gloves with leggings, fire-resistant clothing and shoes.
  • You can not clutter up the workplace. Easy and convenient access of the welder to the work area should be provided.
  • It is strictly forbidden to work from random supports.
  • The parts to be welded must be secured with inventory fasteners.
  • It is strictly forbidden to use and store flammable materials and liquids closer than 5 meters from the welding site.

Carefully following these rules will save health, life and material values.
