Why can't you walk under crossed poles? The gates are Armenian, they are also gypsy Why it is impossible for believers to pass under crossed pillars

Often, near the "L"-shaped concrete pylons of power lines, you can see several paths: one - small - in the middle, and the other two - larger - go around the triangular portal side. Electricians shrug their shoulders, but the people understand why it is impossible to pass between two poles. It is worth finding out, because there are a lot of such structures in every settlement.

Supports for power line poles: technical side

Inclined props to electric poles of overhead lines are used to give the support additional stability. Such auxiliary structures are used only on the following types of power transmission towers:

  • Anchor- are intended for a tension of wires on a site;
  • Terminal- located at the extreme points of the line. Wires depart from them directly to electrical substations;
  • corner- installed at the turning points of the line. They need additional support because, in addition to the usual load for an intermediate power line, they are affected by the force of the transverse tension of the wires.

Consider the design features of the struts:

  • As a rule, they are made of concrete (although you can also find more budgetary wooden options);
  • The base is fixed on the surface of the earth using the foundation. At the top, both poles are linked using metal attachment points, which are called slopes or struts.
  • The angle between two columns is from 20 degrees (corner columns of UNt-DB7 series) to 24 degrees (all other types).

The mystical meaning of the "devil's gate"

So, we were convinced of the direct practical purpose of concrete electric poles located one to the other in the shape of the letter "L". However, among the people this design is known under different names: damn, dog or even cat gates.

Walk under it bring on trouble:

  1. A person for no apparent reason will begin to be haunted by misfortunes, a black streak will come in life;
  2. Seriously ill people go to such "gates" to give them their illness. He lives there for a while, until he sticks to the one who passes through them;
  3. If a couple of friends or lovers pass so that the pillar is between them - there will be a deep quarrel or divorce;
  4. Bad thoughts that come to mind while passing through the prop tend to come true. Therefore, it is necessary to pass this obstacle with the head as clear as possible from evil;
  5. End supports are especially dangerous for a person: they literally promise the end to those who dare to neglect popular beliefs and cross the concrete triangle.

Causes of superstition

Nobody knows the exact origin of the belief today. Many versions are put forward, one more wonderful than the other:

  • This is a portal to another world. Only magicians and sorcerers can deliberately fall into it, and only dangers await the ordinary mortal there. The reason for this is the allegedly pointed upward construction (popularly called the "goat"), which accumulates negative energy. Therefore, all vaults in Orthodox churches are rounded. Arches in ordinary buildings are rounded for the same reason;
  • A pseudo-Christian belief says that the triangular shape of the passage symbolizes the Trinity. Having passed through such “gates”, a person will forever renounce religion and give himself into the clutches of dark forces;
  • According to another near-religious version, the pillars inclined towards each other resemble crucifixion, to pass under which none of the faithful should not;
  • In ancient times in Russia, hanged men were executed on poles that outwardly resemble the modern corner poles of power lines. Since such a fate most often awaited gypsy horse thieves, the “goats” earned the name “gypsy gates”.

More real dangers

The reluctance to pass under a prop can have not only irrational, but also quite logical roots:

  1. In the conditions of all-Russian slovenliness, including construction, no one has the right to exclude the danger of a column falling. The reason for this may be the lack of an individual foundation at the support or improper fastening of the metal strut;
  2. The consequences of natural disasters - earthquakes or hurricanes more familiar to our Palestinians - also adversely affect the stability of heavy concrete structures;
  3. If the poles are made of cresote-soaked wood without proper insulation, there is a risk of ground current flowing. In conditions of high humidity, its value is quite enough to cause significant harm to health. Especially in the countryside, where the habit of walking barefoot (including through puddles) has been alive for a long time. That's why the tradition of bypassing the "dog gate" comes from the village.

However, all of the above dangers (both real and imaginary) do little to convince the housing and communal services why they regularly pave the path exactly through the “devil's gate”.

Neutralization of signs

It’s good that along with a bad omen, there are also ways to get rid of or minimize its consequences if you can’t get around this damned place (for example, if there is a roadway or a fence nearby):

  • When approaching, you need to say the words "Cat-cat, open the gate." Having passed the obstacle, they say: “Cat-cat, shut the gate”;
  • Lazier people believe that it is enough to get by with a universal remedy for a curse: crossed middle and index fingers;
  • If a person passed through the portal by mistake and inattention, but came to his senses in time, then it is enough to go back and take a safer path past a bad place;
  • It will not be superfluous to visit the church and pray to the Lord.

Sometimes, nevertheless, a bad omen overtakes a person and brings him a lot of trouble. In this case, you should contact an experienced sorcerer who will advise a conspiracy suitable for the situation or a talisman that protects from misfortune. The Church strongly discourages turning to such charlatans, but often this is the last resort in the fight against dark forces.

To give the support of the electric pole more stability and avoid the wire falling to the ground, put an additional wooden or concrete support. This simple device has gained a bad reputation among the people. The Internet is teeming with numerous versions of why it is impossible to pass between two pillars. Here and the action of otherworldly forces, and a free interpretation of Orthodoxy. However, a reasonable person can safely give up on all these ridiculous arguments and go where he pleases.

Video: what happens if you walk between the pillars

In this video, Kirill Lozhkin will tell you where this sign came from, what consequences of passing through the "devil's gate" can expect you:

why most people bypass and got the best answer

Answer from Galina Skulkina (on vacation)[guru]
It's called the "Damn Gate". They say that the guardian angel clings to these pillars with wings when we pass under them. Happiness, luck turns away, and diseases are dropped on the pillars.
I think that the reasons are the same as walking under the stairs - a triangle.
In ancient times, adherents of pagan religions avoided walking under the stairs (and any foundation that gives a triangle at its top), since, leaning against the wall, it forms a sacred figure, personifying the trinity of the gods. The ancient Egyptians were afraid to offend the gods by passing through the triangular arch, and tried not to incur the wrath of higher entities. The ancient Celts, Britons and Saxons believed that when a person dies, his soul, in order to quickly find himself in heaven, climbs the stairs. Passing under it - even if completely by accident - means inadvertently frightening someone's soul and preventing it from reaching heaven in time, and incurring various misfortunes on yourself.
There is another interpretation that says that this superstition is one of the remnants of the “head taboo”, generally accepted by the ancient Persians and still popular among many peoples. For example, the Siamese believe that the spirit of khuan lives in the human head, which is a guardian spirit. This spirit must be preserved. The Burmese consider it dangerous to have something above their heads, which is why Burmese houses have only one floor. A Cambodian will never pass under an object that is suspended above his head. In Polynesia, in the Marquesas Islands, there is also a "taboo on the head." It is known that the son of the high priest rolled on the ground in agony, as his head was defiled by the pouring water. These are religious superstitions that tell you to keep your head clean.
Christianity also failed to get rid of this superstition and "swallowed" it, adapting it to itself, tying it to the fact that such a ladder lay on the ground, while Jesus Christ was tormented on the cross. In the Middle Ages, when mass executions by hanging were widespread, the condemned passed under the stairs and then climbed the scaffold to carry out the sentence. People were afraid to walk under these stairs, so as not to "collect" the sins and sufferings of the souls of the executed. And separately, this superstition was widespread among the military class, since in ancient times the defeated soldiers were forced to bend in a bow and pass under crossed spears, thus symbolizing their dominance over the conquered. Hence the sign: to pass under the triangle means defeat, failure, humiliation.

You asked why they BYPASS, and what superstitions, and not how it affects ... Isn't it?

There is a belief among the people: crossed poles must be bypassed. Otherwise, do not avoid trouble. Electricians just shrug their shoulders, but they can't do anything. Meanwhile, this belief has its own explanation.

Where did the omen come from

The people call the crossed pillars "damn", "dog" or "cat" gates, etc. There is no exact reason for such a name.

There are several versions of the origin of the "demonic gate" superstition:

  1. According to pseudo-Christian belief, a person passing through triangular pillars, symbolizing the Trinity, shows disrespect to the forces of light.
  2. Another version is a portal to another world. It is safe only for magicians and sorcerers; death awaits a simple person there. The reason is in the structure pointed at the top, popularly called the "goat". Such pillars accumulate dark energy. In contrast to them, the vaults of Orthodox churches and the arches of ordinary buildings are made rounded.
  3. Another source of belief is associated with executions. In the old days, thieves and horse thieves were hung on similar poles, only wooden ones. Since the latter were more often gypsies, the gates received another name - “gypsy”.
  4. The near-religious version speaks of the similarity with the crucifix. A baptized person should not pass under it.
  5. In ancient times, defeated warriors, admitting their defeat, had to bow through crossed stakes - the so-called yoke or yoke. The harsh custom is long gone, but the memory of it remains. Any triangles are also associated with stakes and pillars (for example, an open step-ladder).

Mystics believe that you can neutralize a bad omen by returning and bypassing the bad place. Crossed index and middle fingers are also a commonly used way to protect yourself from the dark influence of the “demonic gate”.

Who really is not afraid of a bad omen is the housing and communal services. They regularly asphalt the path right between the posts.

Prohibition for believers

Most believers are afraid to pass under the “damn gates”. Their opinion is based on ancient beliefs that crossed pillars serve as a devil's throne. Sitting on them, he rules the world of evil.

To pass under such a throne is to doom yourself to eternal bad luck in life and in any good undertakings. Despite the fact that the pillars were built accordingly, for the sake of fixing and long service life of the light lines, believers still bypass them. After all, they are very similar to the gates of hell, having the same shape and location as the crossed power transmission poles.

Believers try not to talk about such things. However, if you happen to be close to a believer, then if possible, watch him. Be sure: he will definitely bypass such a structure, even if there are holes or deep puddles around.

Child ban

Believing grandparents repeatedly make remarks to their grandchildren about the prohibition of passage between the crossed pillars. And although the real reason for the ban is little understood by children, it lies in the following:

  • Each small child at birth receives his own guardian angel, who takes care of him all his life until a respectable old age and the last breath on earth. After the death of the ward, the angel prays and asks the Lord to direct the soul of a person to heaven. In response, the Lord, having studied the bad and good deeds of a mortal during his lifetime, weighs them on a scale and makes a decision. If good deeds outweigh, posthumous grace awaits the soul, if bad deeds turn out to be harder, she will be in hell. A child who does not obey adults and violates their prohibitions weighs down the evil scale from childhood.
  • The damn gate symbolizes the entrance to hell. When a child unknowingly passes through them, the angel guarding him is unable to follow him, because he cannot cross the line of the other world. The child is left without protection, which is what demons use, trying to harm an innocent soul. As a result, the child is left without protection, and failures haunt him for a long time.

A pectoral cross will help protect the child from accidentally getting into a bad place. It should always be carried with you.

"Hell's gates", which serve as a symbol of evil otherworldly forces, troubles and failures, have been known to people since ancient times. To this day, believers are afraid to pass under them. Perhaps they really lie the line between the worlds, which is better not to cross.

Ideally, people should not be superstitious. Each of us can overcome fears and complexes in ourselves that make us afraid of certain signs. But in the real world, many Russians spit over their left shoulders, knock on wood, or grab a button when they see a black cat.

Representatives of the older generation - our parents, grandparents - do the same, despite the fact that they were born in Soviet times, when the party authorities launched a real fight against various superstitions.

Moreover, some signs arose and spread in the mass consciousness precisely in the era of the construction of communism. So what superstitions did the Soviet era give rise to?

Sewer manholes are evil?

The development of urban infrastructure, which happened in the twentieth century, contributed to the emergence of new signs. Sewer wells, covered with metal manholes, became an absolute innovation in their time. There was a belief that it was absolutely impossible to step on these round objects. Otherwise, be in trouble.

Moreover, in the event of a violation of the ban, folk rumor promised a variety of misfortunes: from the death of close relatives to a series of unfortunate events. The bulk of the people believed that a person who inadvertently stepped on a sewer hatch would be severely beaten in the very near future.

As is usually the case with signs, the ban on doing anything for fear of the development of negative events in the future has both a mystical and a completely logical explanation. The fact is that not all sewer manholes were securely fastened, people who stepped on them risked injury or even death. Such cases really happened, so adults tried to protect children and adolescents from possible risks, scaring them with various misfortunes.

However, there is also a mystical explanation. Under the manhole is a sewer well, where water flows, polluted both physically and spiritually. All this negative energy can cause harm. It is believed that a person can incur real troubles by simply stepping on a round metal hatch.

However, do not despair, even if this happened. It is quite possible to neutralize a formidable omen. It is enough to ask someone to knock on your back. And in the absence of satellites, you can do it yourself. Then the evil spirits (and how without them?) will decide that they have done their job: you have been beaten. And real trouble can be avoided.

Bad poles put the letter "L"

Immediately after coming to power, the Bolsheviks set themselves the goal of electrifying the entire country. In Soviet times, our vast homeland was entangled in a network of wires. Often two poles of power lines (power lines) were installed in the form of the letter "L". This design is stronger. One pillar in it, as it were, supports the second, if the terrain, for example, has a slope.

But among the people, these L-shaped structures immediately gained notoriety. They began to be called dog, cat or even damn gates. The concrete poles of power lines were perceived by superstitious people as ... portals to another world, where negative energy accumulates and evil spirits live.

If you believe the sign, in no case should you pass between two such pillars. And people who nevertheless violated the ban, do not expect anything good. Quarrels with friends and lovers, divorces, serious illnesses and accidents - all this will literally fall on the heads of the poor.

There are many versions of the origin of this sign. Some say that the design, pointed upwards, looks like a goat's horn and is therefore associated with Satan. Others believe that the L-shaped poles of power lines resemble the gallows, which in the old days were set up for the execution of criminals. There is also a version that the triangular passage symbolizes the Christian Trinity, and it is reprehensible to trample this place with your feet.

However, there is a logical explanation for this sign. If concrete supports are installed with violations of building codes or their fastenings have become unusable over time, then such a structure may well collapse on the head of a pedestrian. And given the usual sloppiness, as well as high humidity, there is a risk of getting an electric shock.

It is quite possible to nullify future troubles if you passed between two pillars connected at the top. It is enough just to go back and go around the concrete supports. And if you are not one of the shy ones, then you can simply cross your index and middle fingers to neutralize all the negativity of a bad place.

There is also such a method. Approaching the passage, superstitious people ask some mythical cat-owner of this portal to open the way for them, and after passing the L-shaped structure, they say out loud: “Cat, close the gate.”

Edible lucky ticket

The Soviet era was also marked by the development of public transport in our country. Most citizens traveled daily to their place of work or study by bus, tram or trolley bus. During these trips, the sign about lucky tickets was born.

All travel cards were numbered. Each such piece of paper had six digits. A ticket was considered lucky if the sum of the first three numbers, when added together, was equal to the sum of the last three. For example, 128362 or 365770. According to mathematicians, this condition corresponds to one of the 18 travel cards.

In addition to the main method for determining a lucky ticket, there were at least two more. Some people argued that positive changes await the passenger who got a piece of paper with equal amounts of three consecutive digital pairs. For example, 187263 or 501423.

The Leningrad method of identifying a lucky ticket took into account the sums of numbers occupying even and dishonest places in the general series of numbers. So, residents of the Northern capital were happy with tickets with numbers: 653488 or 324665.

And if, when counting numbers, a young man or girl found a difference of one, then this was a clear harbinger of a love date.

It was believed that a lucky ticket must be eaten. Allegedly, only in this case it was possible to be sure that it would "work" with a guarantee. A person who dared to such an act was expected by good luck and the realization of his most cherished hopes.

The reason for this sign is rather mysterious. Numerology was not recognized as a serious science in Soviet times. Yes, and now the followers of this teaching are perceived by many as charlatans. However, experts argue that equal sums of numbers on a travel ticket may indicate a harmony that is coming in a person's life between his inner world and social life.

If you look at the situation from this angle, then it is quite possible to talk about imminent positive changes in the fate of the owner of a lucky ticket. Therefore, many people collected these travel cards.

In Soviet times, a lot of signs arose in the student environment associated with the successful passing of exams. After all, it was in the 20th century that higher education became truly accessible and a mass phenomenon among young people.

In addition, there are many new professions that involve risk. This means that pilots, astronauts, submariners, firefighters, etc. have their own superstitions. As practice shows, a high level of education does not prevent people from believing in omens.

It has long been considered bad luck to pass under crossed poles. This belief has survived to this day. But there are people who believe in this, and some do not believe in this sign. Let's try to answer the question why it is impossible to pass under crossed pillars and why, for what reason, disagreements arise in the answers.

Why it is impossible for believers to pass under crossed pillars

Most people who believe in God are afraid to pass under crossed pillars. Their opinion is based on ancient beliefs, which say that these pillars are the gates for hell. He sits on the throne of evil.

It is considered a bad omen for eternal bad luck in life and affairs in general. But still, why can't you pass under the crossed pillars? After all, they were built in such a way to secure and long-term service of light lines. The fact is that the gates of hell have exactly the same shape and location as those of these crossed pillars.
Believers try not to talk about such things by ear. But if you happen to be close to a believer, then at the slightest opportunity, observe from the outside that these people will definitely bypass such pillars, even if ravines and earthen depressions are added on both sides.

Why children shouldn't walk under crossed poles

Surely many of you, in your childhood, grandmothers said and made remarks that you should not walk under crossed poles. But few of the children, as they grow, will be able to remember the true reason for the ban. A kind of "taboo" is as follows:

  • Each small child, at birth, has a guardian angel who guards the entire life of the child until old age and until the last day of life on earth. And after death, he desperately prays and asks God to send his soul to paradise. Then God, sorting out good and bad deeds, weighs them on the scales. If the bad outweighs, then the soul will go to hell or vice versa.
  • So, crossed pillars associate the entrance to hell, and when a child, out of ignorance, passes through this structure, the angel standing behind him cannot pass through the pillars. For angels, there is a line of permitted crossing. But he cannot enter the realm of the dead. And the soul of the child remains without the protection of higher powers. And the demons in the realm of the dead are trying in every possible way to harm a child and adults without a wine soul. Such children are unlucky in life, they get sick more often than others, study poorly at school, and subsequently their life becomes a complete failure. That's why children shouldn't walk under the crossed poles.
