Platbands on the windows in the apartment. Carved architraves on windows in a wooden house. Where to order the finishing of windows and doors with wood

For many centuries, the windows of the house were framed with wooden carved platbands. Their use is still relevant today, given modern technologies. But why do we need platbands for windows in a wooden house and is it necessary to mount them? What is needed for the manufacture of protection and what kind of wood is better to use? Is it possible to make wooden platbands for windows with your own hands?

Why do we need platbands on the windows

The construction of houses throughout human history has always been improved, and a wooden house has hundreds of small, but at the same time necessary elements. What are the functions of the platbands on the windows of the house?

First, it is protection. They close the gap between the window and the opening to prevent drafts, dust and moisture, and also as additional thermal insulation. Today, when installing modern window systems the gaps are filled with foam, which is already a good insulator and sealant. The only drawback of this material is the rapid destruction under the influence of temperature and moisture. The platband in this case will act as a good protection and decoration of plastic windows from the outside in a wooden house from the action of these harmful factors.

The design protects the plastic from the effects of temperature and precipitation

Secondly, the aesthetic function. Only in second place is the decoration of the gaps between the window and the opening. Smooth and straight or artsy carved, they will embellish the house design.

What are the types of platbands

Structurally, all types of platbands are similar to each other. They can be classified according to the material used:

  • Plastic.
  • Wooden.

Plastic architraves have a lot of positive aspects: they are durable, and the effect of temperature and moisture on them is reduced to zero. Also, these products can repeat the texture of wood. The only negative is the unnatural look on the wooden building.

Plastic products are not affected by temperature changes and moisture

MDF is wood plate, which is made from sawdust and glue. As a rule, such platbands are laminated, which is excellent protection from external influences, and their service life is very long.

Wooden - natural and environmentally friendly. At proper processing such platbands perfectly resist harmful effects environment . The use of wood allows you to make any shape and pattern, which will be a huge plus in the external decor of the building.

According to the method of installation, the platbands are overhead or telescopic.

Overhead are mounted in the traditional way of installation - over the facade and window frame .

Surface mounted type mounted in the traditional way

Telescopic architraves have the shape of the letter "G" and are installed in the grooves of the window. Them great advantage is that they do not require the use of additional fastening materials.

Telescopic type mounted without the use of additional fasteners

Separately, one can single out such a view as Finnish platbands on windows in wooden and other houses. Their main hallmark is a visor at the top and a simple concise shape.

Which type of architraves to use depends on personal preference and the design plan, but wood overlays are the most commonly used. They are easy to install and aesthetically blend with the material of the walls of the house.

What kind of wood to choose

If it was decided to make wooden architraves, then what breeds are better to use?

Usually the window trim is made from the same wood from which your house was built. You also need to consider ease of processing, texture or strength.

For independent production of platbands with fanciful forms, it is easier to choose soft breeds: alder, linden, aspen. They are easy to cut and finish. However, such wood must be carefully treated with protection from moisture.

Such types of wood as pine or birch have excellent properties. Processing them is somewhat more difficult, but they are more durable and resistant to weather changes.

Oak or beech has the strongest and most durable indicators, but it is quite difficult to make carved platbands of complex shape without special equipment.

Also for making additional decorative elements cashouts that can be applied on top use fruit trees - cherries or cherries.

The main rule when using any of the listed types of material is the need for mandatory additional protection from moisture. elementary paintwork will greatly extend the life of wooden platbands.

Templates for carved architraves

Of course, you can not bother and make a simple cash out without a pattern. A striking example would be Finnish - smooth and without an intricate pattern.

simple finnish window frame trim

Carved platbands on the windows in a wooden house will greatly embellish the overall look and create individual design. For their manufacture, it is easiest to use templates. How to make platbands of non-standard shapes?

Initially, a pattern is chosen, while being guided by some rules:

  • Drawings are geometric and floral. They do not need to be mixed in one design.
  • Need to pick up correct proportion. The geometry of the pattern should not be too wide or narrow.
  • Use the optimal combination of colors in the design.

Ready-made ornaments for the template can be found on the Internet and printed. Then make stencils using them, with the help of which you can transfer the pattern to the surface of the material.

When marking wood for a template, the pattern is applied along the fibers.

How to make wooden platbands

As a rule, two technologies are used to frame window openings. A simpler option is the Finnish design. If the owner of the house prefers a more sophisticated window design, then the carved manufacturing technique is chosen. Let's consider each of the methods in more detail.

Making a simple Finnish window trim

Make platbands on windows Finnish technology you can use wood conifers, pine or larch is great. Less commonly, birch, beech or oak are chosen for this.

The design is simple and concise, consists of the following elements:

  • Four strapping boards around the perimeter of the window.
  • Visor.
  • Two supports for the casting board (visor).

The width of the strapping is from 90 to 145 millimeters, the casting board is 175 mm, the thickness is 20-30 millimeters.

Finnish cashing machine

The manufacturing algorithm is as follows:

  • Saw out props for low tide. For their manufacture do not use complex geometric shapes. Cutting is done using a jigsaw.
  • The harness is made like this. Side boards should be slightly longer than the window opening (approximately two of its widths). Their lower part is bevelled. The top board is made along the length of the tide and also has curly edges (usually simple bevels).
  • The visor is made beveled along the edges, and a chamfer is cut in front (to drain water).
  • Installation of Finnish platbands is carried out on the casing (with plastic windows) or on the window frame. In this case, self-tapping screws are not used, but only wooden spikes in combination with an adhesive composition.

The adhesive itself during installation work will not provide sufficient fastening.

Making carved architraves

First, a stencil with a pattern is made. For a beginner carver, it is best to use a pattern with large elements - they are easier to bring to life. The main thing is to stick to the same type of pattern, which will create a single design for the entire facade..

The carving of platbands can be of two types:

  • slotted. It has a very original look, the pattern gives the impression of wood lace. It is made by cutting through the board and further fastening along the perimeter of the opening.
  • Invoice. In this case, all elements of the drawings are made separately and then fixed on a single board as a basis.

When making, you will need a set of tools for wood. Elementary carved platbands can be made using manual and electric jigsaw, hacksaws, drills.

More complex patterns are made using milling machines and sets of wood cutters. Sanding requires sandpaper.

The thickness of the board of the selected material is at least 30 millimeters for the welt pattern and 10 mm for the production of the invoice. The tree must be perfectly dried, otherwise in the future such platbands will crack and change shape..

  1. The window opening of the house is measured and blanks are prepared on it.
  2. The required pattern is applied to the surface of the board under the stencil. Be sure to take into account the mirror opposite of the left and right architraves, as well as the upper and lower ones (that is, there must be at least four stencils).
  3. Internal cuts begin with drilling holes for the jigsaw blade.
  4. All the necessary drawings are cut along the lines.
  5. All irregularities after cutting are carefully leveled and polished using sandpaper, rasps and even needle files.
  6. When the product is ready, it is finally finished using 600 grit sandpaper.
  7. Overhead elements are fixed to the base. Fasteners can be made with glue and nails without caps. Self-tapping screws can cause cracks.

Installation of platbands on openings

Patterned window frame

Assembly

When all the elements are ready, they are assembled into a single structure. To do this, use joints on a spike (nagel) or nails without hats, carpentry glue plays an additional role.

If an overhead thread is used, then the base is first assembled. With this method, the ends of the base are connected with dowels on spikes.

The installation of platbands on windows in a wooden house is also carried out on a studded mount.

Mounting

Installation of platbands on a spike can be of two types: deaf and through.

  • Deaf. The spikes are inserted into the holes on the platbands or the frame, in accordance with them, the same sockets are made. Plus, there are no fastener points visible.
  • Through. To do this, the cashing is applied to the opening and through holes are drilled into which the dowels on the glue are hammered.

Installation of window cashing on a deaf spiked mount is done according to the following principle.

  • On the surface of the frame and platbands mark the location of the spikes.
  • Holes are made under them.
  • The spikes are made from a harder wood species and are 0.5 mm larger than the required diameter.
  • The dowels are inserted into the holes on the frame and the platbands are placed on them.

Previously, before installing the element, you need to lubricate the joints with wood glue.

The installation itself is quite simple, but it requires great accuracy, the slightest distortions and mismatch will not allow you to make a good mount.

The installation of the structure must be carried out with maximum precision

Finishing trims

In order for the products to serve for a long time, they must be treated from the destructive effects of the environment: temperature changes and moisture.

Finishing and protective material can be varnish, paint or stain.

There are also various special impregnations or good old drying oil. They must be applied before finishing painting.

Stains perfectly emphasize the texture of wood, but their use is desirable in combination with colorless wood varnishes. This finish can perfectly imitate valuable wood species.

Varnishes have excellent protective properties and, like stains, can create a rich color, for example, oak or pine.

Paints are best used waterproof. They are selected according to the general color scheme houses and windows.

Roof color selection

To extend the service life, it is necessary to carry out an audit on appearance platbands and renew the coating.

If there are places with mold or decay, they are carefully scraped off or cut off. Damaged areas are restored using wood putty with further paintwork.

Architraves on the windows in a wooden house is a functional window decoration that also allows the wall. This helps protect wooden structures from moisture penetration and blowing, reduce heat loss at home, and improve sound insulation. Installing trim with decorative elements is a great opportunity to add aesthetic appeal to your home.

For the manufacture of platbands, wood is traditionally used - this material is ideally combined with the external appearance. wooden house. But on modern market also presented products made of plastic, resistant to external influences.

According to the principle of installation, overhead (classic) and telescopic structures are distinguished. In the first case, the strips are superimposed and fixed around the window opening, blocking the joint. The second option is mounted without fasteners (screws or nails), since its design contains a special comb that is inserted into the gap between the casing and the window opening.

A telescopic casing is more difficult to manufacture and install, but it looks more aesthetically pleasing, since there are no fasteners on the front part. In addition, the gap between the pigtail and the opening closes more reliably. If the frames are inserted flush with the outer edge of the casing, the trim strips will also cover the joint between the window structure and the casing.

Telescopic casing

Material selection

Natural wood is widely used to create architraves, because:

  • affordable;
  • well amenable to processing;
  • allows you to make platbands with your own hands, including carved ones;
  • easy to install;
  • environmentally friendly;
  • aesthetic;
  • organically complements the appearance of a wooden building.

The disadvantage of wooden platbands is the susceptibility of wood to external influences - so that the window design does not lose its attractiveness and functionality, it is necessary to regularly update its protective and decorative coating. It can be paint or varnish with water-repellent qualities.

Plastic platbands have their advantages:

  • resistance to external influences (do not fade in the sun, do not deform during temperature changes, are not afraid of moisture);
  • biological stability (do not rot, are not damaged by insects);
  • a wide range of colors and shades (you can choose platbands in the color of the frame of the installed window or a shade suitable for the walls);
  • supplied with a hidden fastening system;
  • do not require special care;
  • durable.

The disadvantages include the inability to make carved platbands on their own - they will have to be ordered. Besides, given material many consider it not environmentally friendly and therefore incompatible with the very idea of \u200b\u200bbuilding a wooden house.

Selection and installation of plastic platbands

If metal-plastic windows are installed in a wooden house, you can order platbands made of polymer materials, or purchase plastic moldings with a suitable surface design. The material of manufacture is:

  • sheet plastic;
  • polyurethane.

Sheet plastic is only suitable for flat overlay strips.

From PVC and polyurethane, you can make relief structures, original carved platbands that will decorate the facade of the house.

The most convenient in installation are platbands equipped with mounting strips, on which an external decorative element is put on and snapped into place. Installing a simple plastic window frame involves the following steps:

  • Check the architraves and fastening strips to make sure that the lock is not damaged;
  • Measure the window frame. Add two plank widths to the height of the frame and to the width of the frame - this will create a closed frame around the entire perimeter of the window. If a low tide is provided at the bottom, add another lath width to the height of the frame.
  • Cut the plastic molding into segments corresponding to the calculations.
  • Trim corners should be cut strictly at 45 degrees to form precise and aesthetic joints.
  • Mark up and above the window, attach a piece of the mounting plate of a suitable size using self-tapping screws.
  • Insert the platband comb into the grooves and press until a characteristic click is heard.
  • By the same principle, install the side strips first, then the bottom. It is important to achieve accurate docking of the elements.

Custom-made original plastic architraves can be mounted in a similar way or have a telescopic design - in this case, the mounting part of the frame is inserted into the gap between the window frame and the opening.

Production of wooden architraves

Wood is used to make platbands different breeds. The most durable products are obtained from oak or beech, which are characterized by a high density of structure. At the same time, with your own hands you can make only simple platbands from them - to cut the pattern, you will need to use milling machine. Hand carving on solid oak and beech wood is a very laborious task.

An intricate window frame will allow you to create a linden - a soft tree lends itself to a cutter without forming chips. But the figured linden frame needs to be impregnated with an antiseptic with high quality, covered with 2-3 layers of reliable waterproof varnish and renewed at least once a season, since such wood is hygroscopic and quickly collapses without treatment.

Available materials for the manufacture of window frames include pine, alder, birch, aspen. This wood can be processed hand tool, products in the future require only basic care.

To make beautiful platbands, use a drill with wood drills and a jigsaw - manual or electric. The pattern is cut out according to a pre-prepared stencil. It is advisable to arrange the carved elements along the wood fibers in order to protect the product from cracking.

During machine milling of boards, the pattern is not cut through - the wood is selected to a predetermined depth, resulting in a relief pattern. The same effect can be achieved with a hand tool, but it requires great skill.

On the construction market there are smooth and profiled architraves, as well as molded products with figured carving. For their manufacture, solid or glued timber is used. The material for framing windows must be well dried so that the product does not warp during operation.

The frame consists of the following elements:

  • upper plank ("kokoshnik") 3-4 cm thick, if desired, add decoration it is built up by fastening the details with wooden spikes;
  • side strips with a thickness of 3-4 cm, if necessary, are increased in the lower part using decorative elements;
  • lower bar (“towels”) - its thickness should be 1 cm higher than the thickness of the upper bar, it is attached at an angle to ensure water flow.

Platbands are made strictly for the size of each window. If the sashes open outward, the architraves should not interfere with this, which should be taken into account when taking measurements. At the same time, visually the contour of the frame should not peek out from behind the casing. All windows of the house are decorated in the same style.

Installation of wooden platbands

The prepared carved framing elements and planks are treated with an antiseptic, and then, during installation, they are interconnected with wooden spikes planted on synthetic glue. The joints of all connected parts must be coated with the same glue. Do not use an organic adhesive - if moisture gets in, it can become a breeding ground for fungus.

Make sure that the gap between the pigtail and the opening is filled before installing the window trim. It is important that the installation site of the casing is flat surface. Check if the edge of the casing box protrudes beyond the plane of the wall. If the wall is made of logs, the protruding edges of the ends that form the opening should be cut at an angle and subsequently treated with an antiseptic and stain so that they acquire the same color as the entire wall.

The overlay frame is mounted in three ways:

  • on nails or screws;
  • on deaf spikes;
  • on through spikes.

Easiest to hit wooden elements nails. If small recesses are pre-drilled in the platbands for metal fasteners, then after installation, the holes with recessed hats are filled with a mixture of small sawdust and glue, polished and treated with stain and varnish (or painted) along with the frame.

Studded joints differ slightly - in the second case, the hole for the stud is drilled through the casing, which simplifies the task. Marking is carried out on the wall and holes are drilled for spikes, on which platbands are put on. The attachment points are lubricated with synthetic glue.

The number of fasteners is determined depending on the size and weight of the frame. Carved elements make the product heavier. Attachment points are located around the perimeter.

Finishing windows with platbands is an ancient practice. Woodcarving - at one time, was one of the most sought-after professions, and now it has moved into the category of applied art.

Our ancestors believed that evil spirits could enter the house through window and door openings. Therefore, the platband served not only as a decorative element, but also as a talisman, and each applied ornament and pattern on the carved platband carried a certain message. Moreover, each region had its own traditions.

The value of the carved elements on the platbands is interesting

  • Wings emphasize strength.
  • The bird is an element that unites all times.
  • The sun personifies life and energy (usually located on the kokoshnik).
  • The snake symbolizes wisdom and fertility.
  • The cross demonstrates the desire of the owners for harmony between the material and the spiritual.
  • Vegetation shows a sense of unity with nature.
  • Earrings testify to the hospitality of the owners of the house.

Wooden architraves are rarely found in cities with high-rise buildings. But in private construction, they are again in demand today, making modern houses more stylish and unique. They emphasize the desire of many to revive traditions in decor.

Today, window casings perform a completely different function and are made not only from wood. Platbands made of metal, plastic (PVC), plywood, laminated MDF are common. As for the latter, MDF or plywood trims are not intended for external window framing, only for interior design door and window openings.

It should be noted that the correct name of the external decorative frame windows - cashing. The platband is installed indoors.

Functional purpose of window frames

Advantages

  • decorating window openings. For example, a platband can visually stretch a low house, or expand a narrow one;
  • the opportunity to express your individuality or give the house the style of a certain era or region;
  • emphasize the style of the house and allow you to combine all the buildings on the site into a single architectural ensemble;
  • protection of the gaps between the window and the wall from dust and moisture;
  • reduction of heat loss at the junction of the window frame and the wall;
  • reducing the level of external noise;
  • are sometimes the only possible option design. For example, platbands on the windows of a wooden house or a log house can only be made of wood. Otherwise, the whole color of such a structure will be lost.

Flaws

A wooden, especially carved platband has a number of disadvantages, or rather features:

  • dependence on atmospheric influences. Frequent temperature changes, moisture, ultraviolet, all these factors cause damage to the casing;
  • dependence on quality processing. The right choice of species, careful impregnation of wood, timely replacement of parts, and painting, all this can extend the life of the product. Otherwise, the wooden casing will soon become unusable;
  • the complexity of combining with modern plastic windows. Wooden platbands are not always suitable for plastic windows.

Quite often there are plastic windows framed wooden architraves, as shown in the photo above. A somewhat unfortunate, controversial decision. In such cases, you must either install wooden double-glazed windows(or windows laminated to look like wood), or paint the trim white.

A more harmonious finish is in the photo below.

Types and types of platbands on windows

The manufacture of platbands for windows depends on the type and method of installing the platband.

Allocate simple platbands for windows - flat and standard. More beautiful, are made on special equipment. The most beautiful window trims are, of course, carved ones.

The method of manufacturing and the cost of the platband is affected by the method of their installation:

  • telescopic. To a greater extent, they will change in the frame of doorways. Special L-shaped protrusions of such a casing go into the grooves of the box. Such a connection is more complex, but beautiful;
  • overhead. They are attached to the window frame with nails or special glue.

It is worth noting that the platbands are of a wide variety and are often complemented by shutters.

How to make platbands on windows - the choice of material

1. Type of wood

For the manufacture of the casing, it is better to use such wood as beech, oak, birch, linden, alder, pine, walnut or even fruit trees.

The choice of breed will be influenced by the proposed method of manufacturing the casing.

  • Hardwood architraves (beech, oak, ash) are very reliable, but this material is very hard. To cut a pattern on them, you need to make a lot of effort and spend a lot of time.
  • Platbands from soft-leaved species (linden, alder, aspen). soft material wood, it is a pleasure to work with him. But they, at improper processing, absorb moisture and quickly become unusable.
  • The best option is hardwood (birch) or coniferous (pine). Hard enough to be used outdoors, they allow accurate cuts.
  • Cherry or apple tree is used to make small decorations that are superimposed on the main pattern.

2. Patterns for platbands on windows - drawings and templates

If decorative carving is supposed, you need to decide on the pattern. Depending on skills, you can choose a light or very complex ornament for platbands. Below are some drawings of carved platbands for windows. Patterns can be copied in whole or in part, bringing something from yourself into the pattern.

Sketches with interesting ornaments and patterns are placed on a separate page, by going to which you can
.
It also describes how to make stencils for making templates with your own hands.

It is desirable that all windows are decorated with the same platbands with the same thread. Therefore, when choosing a pattern, keep in mind that it will need to be repeated several times. It shouldn't be too fancy. Especially if you are a beginner. It is better if your pattern contains round holes (they are easy to drill) and large elements. It is worth noting that small elements are not only difficult to manufacture, but also become unusable faster than others. Therefore, they will require periodic replacement.

Another important point is the obligatory presence of a slope at the top of the casing. Otherwise, snow will accumulate on the surface of the tree, which will inevitably lead to its destruction. A slope of several degrees is easy to perform, it will divert water down.

3. Tool

  • hacksaw;
  • knives;
  • chisels of several types (clukarzy, corners, flat, curved, semicircular, caesars);
  • sanding paper;
  • jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • milling machine (if available)

4. Patterns for platbands - stencils and sketches

To make the pattern the same on all windows, it is recommended to make a sketch or stencil.

You need to place the drawing on the workpiece correctly. Elements should be located along the grain of the wood. This will prevent thread cracking.

Sections of the pattern where you need to make cuts can be marked with color.

5. Making carved platbands for windows

There are two ways to do wood carving:

  • cut wood carving. The pattern cuts through the entire casing and, like lace, beautifully and elegantly frames the window opening.

  • overhead wood carving. This method is much easier themes that a thinner workpiece is used for work, which is easier to work with. With the overhead method, individual thread elements are created, which are then folded together on a solid board. Thus, it is possible to ennoble simple platbands on the windows.

The beauty of openwork window trim lies in the use of contrast. A lighter carved element on a dark background is more common.

Do-it-yourself wooden platbands for windows - instructions

  • measurements are taken from the window;
  • All work is done on dry lumber. The height and width of the board depends on your preferences, but the thickness should be at least 30 mm for a slotted thread and at least 10 mm for an invoice;
  • blanks are cut out;
  • from the inside of the clypeus, to a depth of 1-2 mm. wood is selected. Leave edges on the edges. This approach will provide a tighter fit of the casing to the frame;
  • the pattern applied according to the template is cut out. At the same time, holes can be drilled with drills of different diameters, and cuts can be made with a jigsaw. The insertion point of the jigsaw is indicated by a drilled hole. So the cut will be more beautiful;
  • slots and holes are processed with sanding paper. If there are non-through holes in the pattern, then wood dust must be removed from them. This is done using a vacuum cleaner.

6. Fastening carved elements

Details made with overhead carving are attached to the wide base of the casing on nails. It is desirable that the nails were without caps. More reliable connection can be achieved by applying glue to the pattern from the wrong side. Masters advise not to use self-tapping screws for the connection, so as not to damage the junction.

7. Installation of trim on windows

Few create beautiful product. You also need to know how to install platbands on windows correctly.

Proper installation of platbands on windows is the key to their long-term operation and aesthetic appearance. For fastening, you can use the following methods:

  • deaf thorn. Such spikes are installed in the casing, and holes are drilled in the frame for them. A little glue is applied to the spike and inserted into the groove. This mount is the most difficult, but it protects the installation site from moisture and does not spoil the appearance of the product;
  • through spike. More simple and less reliable way. This system of spikes provides fastening. But, the spike must be installed where it will be least noticeable and additionally protected from moisture.

The listed methods are used if platbands are installed on wooden windows.

In the event that the installation of platbands on plastic windows is required, special glue (liquid nails) is used. This method will not violate the integrity of the frame.

In order for the carved platband to please you for as long as possible, you need to take care of its processing. To do this, the wood is primed, varnished or painted.

Outcome

The desire to follow the traditions of the ancestors is commendable. The revival of carved art is most welcome in the conditions of modern urbanization. The special flavor of Russian carving will not lose its relevance. With some effort, you can make carved wooden platbands with your own hands. Yes, the work is difficult and painstaking, but it's worth it. Plus, you can save a decent amount, because. if you order the manufacture of a set of carved architraves for one window in the workshop, it will cost 5-15 thousand rubles.

Building a new house or overhaul old are inextricably linked with the insertion of windows. Often preference is given to metal-plastic structures. Just replacing the frames will not be enough to give the object a complete look, you will need to install platbands. The range of overlay strips for windows is extensive, the information below will help to study the advantages of plastic trim, get acquainted with the variety of types and the installation process.

Characteristics of plastic products

The primary purpose of installing a window trim is to close the gap between the wall and the window frame. This will create an additional barrier against the penetration of precipitation, noise and dust into the room. The quality of thermal insulation is also improved. At the same time, platbands perform a decorative function, bringing individual notes to the design of the house. Since ancient times, window frames have been made of wood, modern technologies have created conditions for the use of plastic products. Maintaining an attractive appearance while improving performance contributes to the rapid growth in the popularity of plastic trim. What are their advantages, consider in more detail:

  • Resistance to the influence of negative atmospheric factors.
  • Loyal pricing policy.
  • The ability to choose any configuration for the window.
  • Wide color palette. The popularity of white Brown color undeniable, but technology allows you to choose other shades of plastic trim, corresponding to the overall design of the facade.
  • Not subject to deformation as a result of moisture or temperature fluctuations.
  • The process of installing platbands made of plastic is easy. Overhead strips are fixed on the adhesive composition directly to the window profile or special removable elements are used.
  • Unlike wooden counterparts, plastic slats do not need careful care. To remove the accumulated dirt, it is enough to wipe them with a damp sponge.
  • Successful imitation of various tree species allows the use of platbands for framing windows in wooden log cabins without losing the harmonious harmony in the design.
  • The light weight of the plastic helps to simplify the fastening process to the banal use of double-sided tape when decorating small windows.
  • The building materials market offers a novelty - a plastic trim equipped with a cable channel that allows you to aesthetically disguise the electrical wiring around the window.
  • Among the range you can find products designed for decorating houses finished with metal or vinyl siding. Such plastic strips are distinguished by a well-thought-out mounting system.
  • It is rather difficult to find a suitable wooden finish for plastic windows; plastic decoration is the optimal combination of materials according to texture.
  • No need for additional finishing.
  • Insect damage to platbands made of plastic does not threaten.
  • Long period of operation

Species diversity of finishing window openings

In the production of finishing strips, various plastics are used, which provide a variety of platbands. The most simple plastic platbands are made of material sheet type, they generally have a flat surface. In this case, the internal structure of the plastic can be monolithic or heterogeneous. Possessing a low coefficient of stretching, plastic platbands do not deform on windows as a result of temperature fluctuations or exposure to moisture. This should be taken into account during the installation process when forming thermal gaps.

The second group of plastic platbands includes products, the basis of which consists of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyurethane. The use of these materials significantly expands the range of platbands, making it possible to produce embossed strips or products on windows. unusual shape. The result is achieved by surface pressing or casting. You can install them on windows not only inside the building, but also outside.

If you want to decorate the facade of the building "with a twist", especially if it log house will come to help. The tradition of decorating a house with carvings has existed for more than one century, and after a short oblivion, it successfully returns to modern architecture. The ability to work with wood is not given to everyone, especially since such architraves require regular maintenance and periodic restoration work. Carved platbands for windows made of polyurethane, copying the color of wood, will successfully fit into the architectural ensemble of any housing construction.

In addition to the traditional white color, multi-colored plastic platbands are produced that imitate a certain material: wood or metal. This makes it possible to use them on windows with any decoration of the house.

According to their structure, platbands are overhead and telescopic. The second option is a kind of constructor, in which all elements are interconnected using locks. Often it is supplemented with a set of add-ons.

Important ! A set of plastic products with an extension will simplify the creation of a single ensemble, especially when decorating a colored window or stylized wood.

Specialists use several options for mounting finishing strips on plastic windows. Particularly popular is the method in which the platbands are fixed to the wall or window frame using mounting elements. Among the rich assortment of plastic products, you can find removable structures, when the finishing strips are fixed to special latches. In this case, the device operates on the principle of buttons for clothes: fasteners are fixed on the window frame, a plastic trim is installed on top and pressed until a characteristic click.

Important ! When choosing overhead strips, pay attention to the method of attachment. If installation is provided with the use of special latches, make sure that they are in good condition and that there are no deformations.

The method in which the plastic finishing strips are attached to the window using double-sided tape is the most simple. However, the use of this option for fixing plastic platbands is not common due to insufficient reliability. The risk of damage to the window design is especially high under strong wind loads.

Stages of installation work

Here is an algorithm of actions when installing plastic trim with fasteners:

  • The height of the window frame is measured from the top to the bottom. In the case of installation at the bottom of the ebb, the result obtained is increased by one lath width. If plastic platbands are present along the entire perimeter of the window, forming a closed connection, double the width of the plank is added to the height of the frame.
  • After measurements, a plastic product purchased in running meters, cut into pieces for horizontal and vertical window trim.
  • A cut is formed on each part at an angle of 45 °, which ensures the correct joining of plastic elements along the perimeter of the window.

Advice ! To cut the required angle accurately and quickly, special mounting angles with the necessary markings will help.

Sections on plastic platbands are formed in compliance with the following rules:

  • Horizontal parts have cuts on both sides;
  • In the case of forming a closed joint around the window, vertical plastic strips are prepared with double-sided cuts. If there is an ebb on the window for vertical platbands, a cut is required only from above.

The installation process begins with the installation of the top plastic element and consists of the following steps:

  • Fixing points are marked on the wall.
  • The holes are drilled with a hammer drill.
  • Plastic dowels are inserted into the prepared recesses.

Hello dear reader!

He spent the weekend excellently: he rested with his family at the dacha of friends, which they recently acquired. Everything in the house was pleasing to the eye, except for the design of the window joints at the point of contact between the frames and the walls. I decided to help the guys by sending one of my architraves installation specialists to them. Everyone is happy with the result. Are the trims on your windows perfectly installed? Or are there a few annoying look "jambs"? Next, I will tell you how to fix the situation quickly and on your own.

How to make a PVC window trim yourself?

When finishing any plastic window, you need to work according to the standard algorithm. For example, if preliminary work is to be done, then all actions must comply with GOST 30971. If you wish, you can immediately get a visual presentation of information about the finishing process, for example, the window perimeter at the stage of installation of anchor plates, find out what is the purpose of the vapor barrier membrane.

Compliance with the requirements of GOST is the best prevention of problems during the operation of a self-supplied window: it will not leave the frame under the influence of wind or due to shedding of the mounting foam.

Because most of the problems arise due to errors in the installation of the main structure, and not due to errors made during finishing work.

At finishing work there is also a sequence, without which the finished product will not look as worthy as we would like. But this problem is more aesthetic than applied. However, most of us are more pleased when the end result is not only reliable, but also visually attractive.

Preliminary work

When the frame is installed, the span is still unattractive in appearance. Stripes of bubbling polyurethane foam and other beauty flaws do not add to it. But soon everything will change. To begin with, if the installers have forgotten, it is necessary to carry out protection from a vapor barrier membrane so that moisture does not subsequently seep out of the heat-insulating layer.

Ever paid attention to the little ones plastic stoppers on the outer surface ram? These are plugs placed in the openings of a double-glazed window to prevent the effect of suction.- a phenomenon that could manifest itself due to the abundance of rubber seals inside the structure. Without these plugs, due to moisture, some percentage of it is still inside the structure, it would be difficult to open the sashes. How to replace double-glazed windows if necessary.

As practice has shown, the plugs are not installed in vain.

It follows from this that the vapor barrier membrane should not be neglected - standards are developed for a reason, and the dryness of the sealant in the double-glazed window is very important. Therefore, I do not advise you to try to save a couple of cents by using manually perforated polyethylene instead of a vapor barrier membrane when finishing plastic windows.

What did the “smart” comrades come up with, who decided that nothing terrible would happen when replacing a special film with polyethylene for greenhouses?

  • you will purchase greenhouse polyethylene instead of a vapor barrier film required when finishing PVC windows;
  • you find or make something like a rolling machine (in the USSR, such fresh asphalt was rammed by hand);
  • if it was not possible to find a typewriter, you take an even log, saw off the desired piece and attach long handles to it on the sides;
  • you turn a smooth shaft into a “hedgehog” by driving in many small nails (each nail should stick out 3-4 millimeters above the surface);
  • for the final similarity of the rolling machine with the mentioned animal, all carnations must be decapitated, wielding with pincers at an acute angle;
  • you carry the resulting product over the greenhouse film, after which it becomes, supposedly, an excellent vapor-permeable material for finishing PVC windows.

In principle, you say, how does such a film differ from a store membrane? The latter, after all, also passes water. Yes only the rate of passage of moisture through the membrane and homemade vapor barrier film is different. The volumes of passing moisture will also be different. And most importantly: the film will not let moisture back in, and leaky polyethylene is very even.

Why cover mineral insulation vapor barrier material? If you do not leave room for moisture to escape, then with a cold snap, condensation will begin to form in the cotton wool. In a short time, bacteria will breed in such an environment, from the vital activity of which the warming layer will begin to rot. The vapor-permeable membrane will protect against such an outcome, and will not give precipitation, and the steam formed from the breath of people, pets and indoor plants to penetrate in a significant volume inside the window structure.

What happens if you decide to use perforated polyethylene rather than a membrane?

Polyethylene will cope with excess water, but only when it accumulates at the bottom of the window structure. Besides he himself is excellent material for condensation, which will only increase the volume of liquid that will be located near the window sill.

How everything will happen:

  • after rain, all drops that have fallen under the window trim will seep to the perimeter covered with polyethylene;
  • the holes in it will perfectly let all the moisture through;
  • the insulating layer will be saturated with liquid and begin to rot (the heat that has come, for example, will not help moisture evaporate from mineral wool, but will only speed up the process and will take place at any time of the year).

If the window opening is covered with a vapor-permeable film, such a disgrace will not happen - it lets steam in and only removes it.

Therefore, working with a membrane is a mandatory basic step before starting finishing work around the window perimeter.

If it is not there, then you tighten it, if there is, you skip this step, rejoicing that the pros have worked on the window.

Installation of slopes, platbands

If a vapor barrier film laid, you take on the installation of platbands. If there is no membrane, you clean up all the excess mounting foam, lay the film, and then look for an L-shaped (as in the old Russian alphabet - with a squiggle on the top bar) starting profile in the mass of profiles. From there, start a new stage of work.

Screw the plank with the long side facing the street to the window perimeter using semi-cylindrical screws. Wherein top face profile should lie down on the edge of the window, so that the joint will immediately look more attractive. On the other hand, for slopes, you need to place a crate. Attach a rail along the inner perimeter of the window opening. How to determine its width? If you have experience in homework, then choose a rail that can withstand the impact of dowel-nails and the head of the clamping screws does not peek over its edges.

T now proceed to the direct installation of slopes, the profile for which has an inner edge similar to the English letter F. Fill the resulting gap with a glazing bead, or stick pieces of plastic into it to ensure better strength. Mount the slope on the starting profile, and screw the opposite end to the crate. Corner joints are masked by platbands, which, in fact, are the same F-profile, mounted with a middle border under the slope itself. Above the places opposite the self-tapping screws, you will make 2-3 cm recesses, after which you will carefully install the trim.

The final stage of work is associated with sealing the joints with silicone. Cover generously, in all corners, and remove all smudges with your hand or using something, such as a board. We can assume that he was prepared for the installation of the window sill.

How to install a window sill?

Educational videos for customers who purchase a product make life easier for customers. People get information about how to properly use what they bought. Potential customers, on the other hand, learn about new technologies through training videos and are more willing to purchase innovative products from those suppliers who helped them get acquainted with new market offers.

Now I offer a verbal description of the installation of window sills manufactured by Werzalit.

Thanks to the special design of its products, you can install the window sill using one of the methods you like:

  • planted on cement;
  • fixed with glue;
  • installing consoles.

For the first method, use ordinary cement.

While the solution is ripening, give the window sill a perfectly even position, focusing on the level readings. The back of the profile should be brought under the window, and the front should protrude somewhat above the edge of the lower window span. I recommend to push the product no further than 10 cm. And if possible, reduce the exit distance of the edge of the window sill - so it is less likely that it will be broken off during the operation of the window. Leveling strips, I advise you to take thin planks, should also not be located further than 10 cm from the wall.

All planks that remain under the windowsill must be treated with an antiseptic composition. How many of them are needed for each window sill depends on the evenness of the wall relief - you need to achieve the ideal location of the canvas. After all corrective maneuvers, strengthen the structures in a given position with portions of cement. For reliability, put mounting plates from below. For a better connection between the window sill and the bonding layer, put bricks on top of the panel for a couple of days, after laying something non-staining under them.

Mounting the window sill with glue will appeal to those who do not like to mess with cement due to a shortage of sand or difficulties in delivering it to the construction site.

Given the peculiarity of the bonding mixture, it is necessary to coat with it not only the surface of the wall and window sill, but also all the planks placed under the panel. The design in terms of reliability will not be inferior to that performed with the help of cement. And fill in all the voids construction foam or even mineral wool. On the console, plant the window sill with glue too.

Photo of carved plastic architraves

Unlike wood, plastic platbands do not lose their original attractiveness over time, because they do not dry out, do not peel, do not rot and do not change appearance under the influence of a fungus. Their functionality is similar: to prevent moisture from flowing into mounting gaps, to reduce heat loss and increase the sound transmission of double-glazed windows, to mask the joints between the box and the wall.

The plastic origin does not prevent the use of carved platbands both when finishing frames with PVC panels and structures with wooden frames. If desired, the platbands can be made in the same color as the window profiles. The technology allows you to imitate the wood of ash, oak, wenge, etc. There are also no restrictions in design and texture, so finished products can be matched to match the overall facade or contrast sharply with it. But the stylistic unity should not be violated so that the building does not look comical. So a smooth PVC trim does not suit a log house, but a carved “under the tree” will be more than in place. In the photo I give many worthy examples to guide you in options with successful style combinations.

When choosing platbands, do not forget about polyurethane options. Like those made of PVC, they are not afraid of typical climatic tests, they do not deform under moderate mechanical stress. Due to plasticity, they are best suited for windows in the form of portholes or those with a semi-arch on top. Polyurethane lightweight material, so the platbands from it are very light, as well as various elements to create catchy bas-reliefs, other decorative elements for facades.

Do not settle for foam plastic options. Yes, they are cheap, but they are not street material. It is too fragile - you take care of its installation, and a day later, after strong wind, again in front of you is a field of unplowed work. Not only will you have to take a replacement, but you can’t do without peeling off the remnants of foam products.

Platbands for windows are overhead, and are telescopic, with locks for connecting the elements that make up the structure. Often the second option comes with extensions, which is very convenient - it is much easier to create a single ensemble. Therefore, even when deciding in favor of an overhead casing, it is better to immediately purchase an addition to it.

What are the platbands used to secure? At your disposal are nails, screws and adhesive pastes. If there are no fastening locks in the details, then individual elements at the joints will have to be sawn off at an angle of 45 degrees. by the very convenient way fastening consider mounting on metal fasteners. It is necessary to freshen up the facade by painting or washing - the platbands were removed, then put on. I wanted to replace a part - please, some kind of platband was deformed - you can also change it without problems.

Double-sided tape is only good for indoor use. Use it for mounting platbands on the facade - just add work to yourself. The platbands will scatter both from strong winds and in the case of a particularly hot or rainy season.

If necessary, you can easily find both flat and profiled trim options. The second variety of products has a lot of options: asymmetric, symmetrical, combined and curvilinear. Due to the fact that plastic does not swell from water, does not deform from heat, the products do not swell from street moisture, so the adjustment of structural elements according to the pattern will remain under any climatic conditions.

Range

PVC windows give the facades of buildings a special nobility. But do not be on the windows, standing flush with the wall of the architraves, the impression of the view is much worse. Therefore, platbands were invented to ennoble the butt gaps between the wall of the building and the window frame. After all, even an expert in the installation of plastic windows, the joints in the wall will not go anywhere. Unless they are covered with a pretty and practical trim.

Why are they needed?

The main decorative task of the platband is to make the place of contact between the window frame and the wall attractive. But it also has more applied functions: it does not sunbeams, wind, moisture affect the connecting seam, which means it protects mounting foam from the weathering process.

Varieties

I'll start with a typical variant - flat. budget proposal, pleasing not only the affordability of the price, but also the simplest circuit installation. When the appearance of the facade is not required to cause a surge of emotions, installing a flat platband is the best solution.

Architraves with a profiled interior have some kind of bulges that retain their shape in frost, heat or high humidity. There are many options with different patterns, so choose what you like - everyone will have the same impeccable quality.

But remember that at the corners you will have to trim and combine, so soberly assess your strengths.

I do not recommend choosing carved platbands if the pattern is clearly dissonant with common style tasks. If you can not pick up the platbands of the desired color, do not rush to purchase something from the assortment available in the nearest stores - look in those that are further away. Or use the network - today there are a lot of color options, so it is still possible to find the right color of the casing.

What are they made of

Sheet monolithic or structured plasticit is the most demanded material in the production of flat products. It tolerates temperature fluctuations well, does not lose its qualities under prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation, and is not afraid of moisture. When mixed with pigments, a qualitatively colored base is obtained, so there are almost no problems with the selection of the platband of the desired color.

Plastic almost never elongates unless subjected to extreme stress. high temperatures(they do not exist in everyday life). It does not change the given shape and under the influence of water. That's why in plastic structures there is no gap s, without which you can not do when working with other materials.

Polyurethane (PVC) architraves most often embossed. The properties of the material make it possible to translate any design ideas into real forms, use finished products on facades and indoors.

Like plastic, polyurethane platbands are not afraid of heat, moisture, frost.

Qualitatively made flat or embossed MDF architraves anyone will be enchanted by beauty. But I recommend to put them only indoors- products are deformed during prolonged contact with a humid environment, so for outdoor use this is not the best practical option. Of course, no one can stop it. But will everyone raise their hand, personally send beautiful architraves, and even expensive, for the right deformation?

The most affordable are foam platbands. But they are as light as they are susceptible to mechanical impact. Because of this, neither excellent thermal insulation performance, nor resistance to low temperatures and moisture should tempt you to buy this option. Except for indoor use.

Left for dessert platbands made of natural wood. Profiled, flat, shaped - any are good. Even if there is no hand or machine carving. But if during the manufacture the manufacturer deviated from the technology or wised up with the finishing, then you will not admire the beauty for very long. After a year or two, deformation will begin, the canvas will begin to crack.

When choosing platbands, be guided by your capabilities, the final price of products and the functionality declared by the manufacturer. Do not take cheap, but you should not pay big money if you are not sure that the purchase will work for at least a decade without losing its original appearance.

How to fasten platbands?

You can also install the trim on a PVC window yourself, adopting the most appropriate mounting option in your case.

If you like to follow the beaten path, mount the elements on the PVC frame itself or on the wall next to it - these are the most popular ways to fix the cladding panels. If you chose removable elements, then do not rush to firmly attach them with self-tapping screws or something else - look for latches on the products. But in order for the panels to hold, special metal elements. Then click-click and you can decorate the window, tired of the platbands - took off in five minutes and all the cases. Faster only on double-sided tape glue. But such decorations will last only until the first strong wind.

Why do plastic windows need platbands?

Overhead strips, trim, platbands - these are all names of the same elements for sewing up mounting gaps. These not so wide seams, no matter how hard you try, even after the work of professionals, they do not look the most attractive way. All the same, there are gaps, bumps, drops of foam that do not improve the appearance of the wall with a window. The seams look especially sad a couple of years after the installation of the window: whether the building led a little or natural erosion processes were to blame, and the gaps near the window frame began to grow. In general, there is no question of aesthetics if the seams are not covered with platbands.

But if you don’t give a damn about the appearance of the window, but only care about the quality and reliability of installation work, then you will also have to spend money on the purchase and installation of platbands. Because the overlay panels block the access of moisture and wind to the seams, prevent the foam layer from collapsing and postpone the next corrective work to restore the condition of the insulating layers. Therefore, platbands have not only a decorative purpose, but also applied, that is, useful.

Platbands can be placed on the outside and on the inside of the window. What they will be, decide for yourself, choosing overhead or telescopic, figured, flat or rounded.

If you plan to bring the Internet, then I advise you to purchase platbands with an existing cable channel.

Mounting algorithm

First, clean the place where the panels are to be installed as best as possible: remove protruding excess foam from the joints, clean out debris and pouring drops adhering to the walls. If the platbands are edged, carefully adjust the appearance of the panels using a level and other auxiliary tools.

Overhead panels on the frames are fixed special glue, self-tapping screws or liquid nails. Well, I think you understand that the use of hardware is preferable if very windy weather is systematically in your area. Although it seems that this work does not require special professionalism, but if you are not particularly confident in your abilities, it is better to invite a specialist. Masterfully done work is also more pleasant to look at, and the result will last longer.

For clients who crave a flawless result, fall into a trance at the sight of a pair of nails, telescopic platbands were invented. These planks have a special protrusion for insertion into the groove of the box, so the front side of the planks has an impeccable appearance - all fasteners are hidden under the protrusion.

How to keep an attractive look longer?

Proper care facing panels simple.

Like all plastic products, trims can be wiped with a damp, clean cloth or sponge using soapy water. detergent without aggressive components.

Gently rub heavily soiled places, you can lather the dusty area harder. But do not use a brush with coarse fibers, especially do not use a metal brush - micro stripes may remain on the plastic surface, into which street dust will begin to fill and the casing will soon lose its original attractiveness.

Where can you buy?

In the same place where you will order, or ordered double-glazed windows or a complete frame structure. Panels are considered fittings, so they do not come with the main product - their presence and installation must be ordered as a separate item. Although, if you want, you can purchase panels elsewhere, and fix them in place yourself or invite any master you trust.

You can buy ready-made architraves or order the production of individual elements with a unique design. The length of standard panels is 2 m 20 cm, the width is from 4 to 7 cm. The color assortment is also pleasing, so you can decorate the windows of your house with white, colored platbands or order laminated elements.

Platbands for plastic windows

Modern options and types of fastening

Platbands are designed to give a window or door a complete look. Panels have been used to decorate windows for more than one century, but also on modern facades they look appropriate if they are chosen in accordance with the general style of the building. In addition to the decorative function, they also have practical purpose - they close the mounting gaps between the window frame and the sides of the span. In the presence of panels, a beautifully designed window will not lose its attractiveness if the gap between the window and the walls increases slightly due to, for example, shrinkage of the house.

It is easy to choose suitable platbands, as most distributors are ready to offer you flat, curly, rounded elements of any desired color from veneer, aluminum, PVC, MDF, steel. I think you can pick the right ones yourself. If you find it difficult to choose the material, then consult with the managers. But anyway, if the house is made of wood, then the platbands must be selected from a similar material or for it. Then the view of the house will sparkle with new colors and will please the eye with its elegance.

The most popular type of platbands with customers is PVC products, for fixing which on surfaces you can use glue, ordinary and liquid nails, screws, self-tapping screws. If you yourself do not yet have experience working with such elements or are not sure that it will turn out neatly enough, then invite the master.

The platbands are fixed by imposing or by inserting into a groove (telescopic). The latter option is attractive in that upon completion of work on front side no fasteners are visible.

When the window structure takes its place, mounting gaps and slopes must be closed with platbands. After placing the top bar in the fastening profile, fold the casing onto the wall surface and fix it with screws. After the turn, draw slopes according to the same algorithm. Using a miter box, make the corners at the ends of the planks, and then connect the strips. At the points of contact of the strips, treat the seams with sealants, acting quickly and as carefully as possible.

By the same principle, you can decorate the frame of the door frame.

In order not to lay a television cable or other “cords” near it later, it is better to purchase platbands with a cable channel once.

Then all the wires will be hidden from prying eyes, but the masking will not affect the quality of the communication systems. Nails, screws, self-tapping screws do not have to be used if the products have a special fastening system.

Homemade platbands

I would like the country house to look, albeit small, but a palace, so you spend both energy, time, and money on its decoration. After installing plastic windows, you can’t do without installing platbands- if you want the new "eyes" of the house to look beautiful, and the mounting seams do not become unusable due to moisture and wind. Handy owners can make platbands on their own, rather than buying ready-made overhead elements.

At self-manufacturing platbands, first take the necessary measurements. Be sure to calculate the distance from the bottom of the box to the top, taking into account the width of the future casing. Then shape the edges of the strips, ensuring that the trims cut at the corner have exactly 45 degrees.- then the adjoining plates will ideally adjoin each other, which is very important for an attractive appearance of the whole structure.

After cutting the products, attach them to permanent place residence, taking into account the strength and weight of the plates. Wooden ones are best fixed with small thin carnations. If the surface for fasteners is brick, then you can’t do without a drill - it’s not very good to mount on glue, in my opinion good idea. Although many practice just such an installation option.

PVC

Do you want the metal-plastic window to look perfect on the wall? Then take care of the installation of platbands, the elements for which can be bought both in a hardware store and from a supplier of metal-plastic construction. What material is best for you? Make a choice taking into account what your house is built of, the shape of future platbands. Usually sellers are always ready to offer plastic, wooden, plywood and metal platbands.

by the most convenient option I consider universal trims that come with beautiful panels. Such a product looks good on a window with any profile, forming a harmonious complex with it.

Installation of platbands is so simple that even a novice home master can master the technology.

In a wooden house

If windows in wooden houses do not have platbands, then the appearance of such buildings has a somewhat state-of-the-art appearance. Which is not very pretty, in my opinion. Even a simple trim with simple carvings, which even an inexperienced carpenter or carpenter can do, will make the facade of the house much more attractive.

To make a nice trim to the window of a wooden house, you will need the usual tools: a jigsaw (an electric one will simplify the work), a cutter, a drill.

With a jigsaw, you can make patterns of any complexity. It will be easier to work if you choose an aspen, linden, alder or pine board as the base material, with a thickness of 0.5 to 5 cm.

Do not go to extremes, trying to achieve an attractive appearance of the casing with the help of an abundance of small details.

Let them be less, but each element must have an impeccable appearance. When an element has clear edges, you admire it from afar.

Templates

To use a template, you first need to make a basic drawing, and then make a template out of wood from it.

Is it worth it to make your own?

If the installation of platbands seems to be for you challenging task, then without any remorse, go to the company where you bought the windows. There, even if they themselves are not engaged in the sale of panels for decorating windows, they will always tell you a couple of addresses where you can buy everything you need. They will also give the addresses of several masters who accept orders for the installation of platbands.

Do not worry that in the assortment of platbands you will not find the option you need. Manufacturers have calculated everything for a long time, so they are ready to please you with simple and carved elements made of metal, wood, plastic, and in a good way stun them with options. color solutions. I'm sure you will definitely find the option that suits you completely. Moreover, the master will install each of them on the windows of your house, if not in a jiffy, then much faster than you.

Of course, if you are a jack of all trades, then you will not go to the store for wooden architraves. Which of the needleworkers will refuse the chance to decorate their home with their own hand-made product? If the plans are to install platbands from some modern material, then home Kulibin will cope with such a product without much difficulty.

For clients who do not seek to carry out at least some construction work on their own, a staff of installers, builders and designers is always at the service. A joint union of specialists will help achieve the desired result and make your home special and attractive.

for euro windows

A beautiful platband is appropriate not only on windows from old Russian fairy tales, but from modern metal-plastic double-glazed windows. In addition to the decorative purpose, each platband performs a useful function - it protects the mounting joints from water, wind, and destruction under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.

Mounting

The process of installing platbands is preceded by the dismantling of the old window structure and the installation of a new window with modern double-glazed windows. After foaming the joints with foam and installing the slopes, even if all the work is done professionally, it is advisable to equip the openings with platbands.

The exception is the windows "recessed" deep into the wall - then the platbands will look like an inappropriate addition.

Most often, residents of the first floors, owners of their own cottages are especially reverent about the type of windows. Those people who live on 5 floors and above are not particularly concerned with how their windows look from the street.

What will the presence of platbands on the windows of the house give you?

Unconditional pluses:

  • an exclusive look (yes, not all windows have this addition, which is pleasant for the eyes and useful for the windows themselves);
  • attractiveness;
  • protection of assembly seams from adverse factors;
  • strengthening the noise and thermal insulation properties of the window.

I didn't notice any downsides to platbands. We will not accept as such small expenses for the acquisition and installation of these elements?

Platbands for interior window trim are rarely ordered. But if you want to give your room a particularly elegant look, then PVC cladding is very affordable and easy way achieve this. You won’t make it worse for your windows, but I’ll say right away that such a solution has no practical component. After all, windows from the side of the premises are not threatened by moisture, wind or sun.

Examples of making carved platbands in the video:

Rare decorative options

If you are a fan of highly decorative elements, then you will have to upset you a little: manufacturers have nothing to offer you if you look for a solution among standard options. But who's stopping you from doing individual order for the manufacture of exclusive platbands? Moreover, they can be both plastic and wooden. And the last option, I think, is much easier to get. You just need to find a suitable carpenter or joiner. It will come out cheaper, since craftsmen often work on single non-standard options, and mass product manufacturers are simply limited in the toolkit for fulfilling individual orders according to individual sketches. And if they do, they demand a lot of money for their services.

Beautiful architraves are guaranteed to transform the look of your home. Especially if the color and material additional elements will be chosen taking into account the general style of the house. And what is important: such a wonderful decoration is quite affordable, does not require much professionalism from a person who decides to decorate the windows of the house with pretty platbands on his own.
