Do-it-yourself fence on a garden plot. What to make a fence from cheaply and beautifully. When building a wooden fence, you need

Fencing a garden plot is not a complex structure, so you can make the simplest fence at your dacha with your own hands. The choice of material for it depends only on the funds allocated for these purposes and personal preferences.

Basic requirements for fencing a garden plot

The fence at the dacha performs several functions at once. When separating a site from a street or road, it must provide reliable protection from prying eyes and outside penetrations. If a fence separates your territory from your neighbor’s, then it is not necessary to make it permanent - just mark the border.

According to SNiP, the height of the fence separating the site and the street is up to 2 m. It can also be made continuous, but only if this was allowed by the decision of the gardeners’ meeting.

You do not have the right to shade your neighbors’ property - a high fence should only be transparent, mesh or lattice.

A continuous fence between sections is allowed to be erected only in the following cases:

  • if its height does not exceed 0.75 m
  • you have received written consent from your neighbors

How to choose a fence. Types of fences

There are many types of fencing. You can choose any of them:

  • wooden picket fence: inexpensive fencing that can last 7-10 years; decorated with cuts along the entire length of the planks or only along the top, covered with paint or stain to resemble valuable wood species, it looks quite solid and well-made
  • “wicker” fence made of boards small thickness up to 20-25 mm
  • metal picket fence: painted in different colors, from a distance we can hardly distinguish it from wood, but its service life is longer
  • thick-walled polycarbonate: its translucent sheets transmit light well, such structures would be quite appropriate even next to garden beds
  • forged or welded metal: a more expensive massive and very durable structure; its aesthetic properties are also high; if you know how to work with welding, you can create a real work of art on your site
  • brick or concrete on a strip foundation
  • pillar with spans made of chain-link mesh
  • woven from young flexible willow branches, hazel (considered the most suitable material for weaving), aspen, willow, etc.; You can also imitate wattle fence using plastic PVC rods
  • in the form of a green hedge: it looks very decorative, but it will take some time to grow it.

Support installation options

Options for installing fence supports

Metal support posts are immersed in the ground in several ways:

  • by driving into the ground
  • screwing into the ground: For this purpose, screw metal piles are used, one end of which looks like large screws
  • by backfilling: with filling the gaps between the ground and the post with large crushed stones or stones
  • concreting: it can be either complete or partial, that is, part of the pile is driven into the ground, and its upper part is concreted.

It is better to prepare holes for backfilling or concreting using a drill. In this case, the soil will crumble less and the fence will be much stronger. It will be easier to drive piles into the ground if you first weld sharp metal stakes onto their ends.

If the area is in a swampy area and moisture appears at the bottom of the hole, lower a thick plastic bag into it (such bags are used for large debris). Pour the solution into it.

Does a fence need a foundation?

When building lightweight structures - fences made of picket fences, polycarbonate or chain-link mesh - it is enough to use durable metal or wooden supports of sufficient thickness. They can be further strengthened by pouring concrete.

But heavy brick, forged or concrete structures require the mandatory construction of a strip foundation. Otherwise, due to temperature changes or during the process of being washed out by wastewater, significant subsidence of the heavy fence may occur.

Strip foundation device

1 Initially, prepare a trench 30-100 cm wide (this parameter depends on the type of fence) of the required depth.

2 A sand and gravel mixture is poured onto its bottom, which is spilled with water and thoroughly compacted.

3 After installing the formwork in the trench, reinforcement is laid in it. It should not be too close to the edges of the pit - it is necessary to retreat 10 cm from the walls. The distance from the bottom of the trench is about 7 cm.

4 Metal supports are placed in the trench at a distance of 2-2.5 m.

5 To prepare the solution, use cement with a strength of M200 and higher.

6 To remove air bubbles in concrete, it must be pierced with a shovel.

7 After pouring sand-concrete mixture with the addition of crushed stone, the foundation must stand for at least a month. It is not recommended to start work earlier than this period in order to avoid loss of depravity.

The proportions of the foundation solution depend on the brand of concrete. When using M200 concrete – 1:2.5:4.2. We give proportions by volume of materials cement/sand/crushed stone. Please note that some sources may give proportions by weight. When using M300 concrete, the volume proportions will be different - 1.0: 1.7: 3.2.

Columnar foundation

Such a base can support the weight of not too heavy structures. It takes much less cement mortar, and it requires a minimum of time to create it - just prepare the required number of holes, install supports in them and fill the holes with concrete.

1 It is better to prepare holes up to 1.5 m deep using a garden auger. In this case, the ground around will crumble less, and the structure will be more stable.

2 A cushion of gravel or crushed stone of small thickness - up to 20 cm - is poured into the bottom of each hole.

3 A support is inserted into the hole prepared in the ground and leveled using a plumb line.

4 The space around the supports is filled with cement mortar. Ready-made concrete blocks, brick or stone can also serve as supports.

Heavy clay soil is difficult to drill. To make the process easier, pour water into shallow holes for a couple of hours. Drilling will become much easier.

Wooden picket fence

A picket fence is a name given to planks of the same width attached to transverse guides (joists or veins). IN last years It is made not only from wood, but also from metal. So, we’ll tell you how to make a fence at your dacha from a picket fence with your own hands.

Installation of supports

Before installing any type of fencing, the area is completely cleared of turf and leveled. The roots of bushes and trees are removed - as they sprout, they can damage the structure.

At the locations of the supports, stakes are hammered. It is more convenient to make the distance between them equal to the length of the veins. There is no need to do it for more than 3 m - when long distance between the supports the structure will be fragile.

1 In the place of hammered pegs, holes are prepared in the ground up to 1.0-1.3 m deep.

2 Gravel or sand is placed at the bottom of each hole. The layer thickness is 20 cm. Before compacting, the sand is spilled with water for better compaction.

3 To make the structure last longer, it is better to pre-coat the wood with an antiseptic. The part of the supports that will be dug into the ground is covered with bitumen or burned over a fire. You can also additionally wrap their lower part with roofing felt.

4 If not wood is used as support, but metal pipes, rust is completely removed from them using a metal brush, and then they are covered with a primer or frost-resistant paint.

5 To prevent corrosion, hollow metal pipes are sealed at the top with plugs to prevent rain or snow from getting into them.

6 After installing the supports in the prepared pits, their location is verified with a plumb line.

7 The space between the beams and the ground is filled with concrete.

8 The remaining work is carried out a week after the concrete has sufficiently hardened.

It is not strictly regulated and can be anything. A solid (solid) fence made of planks tightly adjacent to each other is good protection from the piercing wind and prying eyes. However, such a fence will not let through sunlight, which is bad for plants.

Diagram of the distance between picket fences

With a sparse fence, the average distance between the pickets is equal to half the width of the bar. A minimum gap of 20 mm can be left between the pickets.

Combined filling is also used - the spans of the fence separating the street and the site are made continuous. At the borders with neighboring areas, complete shading is prohibited, so the fencing here is made sparse.

Picket fence fastening

Installation of a picket fence on wooden supports

1 The standard dimensions of the picket fence are 150x2x5 cm. However, strips of other sizes are also used. The most resistant to rotting are products made from larch, spruce, pine or aspen.

2 When making a decorative picket fence, cuts are made in it. The pattern can be any - with a rounded or pointed upper cut. The cuts can also be located on the sides of the planks.

3 The next stage is treating the wood with an antiseptic (you can take alkyd “Aquatex Ground”, “KSD” or any other preparation with bioprotection). Before installation, the wood is thoroughly dried.

4 Veins (logs) made of wood or metal pipes are attached to the supports using metal corners and screws. Short veins are connected to each other using special fasteners - lag connectors in the form of a U-shaped plate.

5 The lower vein is fixed at a distance of 20 cm from the ground, the upper one - 20 cm below the top of the support column.

6 The pickets can be placed at the same level, or, by adjusting their length, mounted in the form of a wave. They are fastened with self-tapping screws.

The fence is painted or stained after installation is completed.

Fence on uneven terrain

If the height differences on the site are significant and it is impossible to level them out, the ideal option in this case is a concrete base filled with ledges. Each of the spans can also be designed as “steps”, when each of them is attached to supports slightly lower than the previous one.

In this way, even significant slopes of the site can be compensated.

Sometimes they use a method in which the top of the fence has a single level, and the bottom is mounted from pickets of different heights. But such fences look less aesthetically pleasing.

Metal picket fence

A more modern version of picket fences are structures in which wood is replaced with more durable and wear-resistant metal strips. Service life – up to 30 years.

Metal fence strips are often called Euro picket fences

Their installation is quite simple and in many ways similar to the installation of a classic wooden fence.

Let's consider step by step how to make a fence at the dacha from metal picket fence:

1 First, as usual, the support pillars are installed. The distance between them is 2.5 m.

2 Thanks to the small gaps between the pickets, the fence will suffer less from sail and wind, so the requirements for support posts are less stringent. Metal pipes are used as them. It is advisable to choose their cross-section equal to 60x60 mm. Wall thickness 2-4 mm.

3 Metal pipes, as described in the previous paragraph, are concreted into the ground, always checking them vertical arrangement using a level. The optimal depth of wells for such supports is 1.1-1.5 m.

4 Metal picket fence goes well with concrete or brick supports. In this case, the structure will not only look presentable, but will also last longer. The planks can be positioned either horizontally or vertically (see photo).

5 For log crossbars, you need to purchase thin pipes 40x20 mm. They can be welded to the supports or screwed with self-tapping screws. For one log you will need 4 metal screws (a pair on both sides).

6 When attaching the logs, it is necessary to retreat 50 cm from the top and bottom of the supports. The distance from the bottom is slightly less and is 30 cm.

7 K concrete or brick pillars metal veins are secured using special brackets and dowels.

8 The picket fence is attached to the crossbars with 4 self-tapping screws (two in each joist) also on brackets. The distance between the metal strips is 2-10 cm. The optimal length of the pickets is 1.8 m. Although the industry also produces 1.5- and 2-meter strips.

9 To create a completely blind fence, a Euro picket fence is attached on both sides in increments of 8 cm, alternating them through one another. With an average width of metal strips of 11.8, the fence turns out to be completely continuous.

This type of fence is continuous, so it can only be used to fence off a garden plot on the road side. It is inexpensive and looks quite presentable.

One of the options for fencing made of corrugated sheets

Plus, corrugated sheeting has a considerable service life - up to 20-30 years. Manufacturers claim that when coated with polyester, this period increases even more and amounts to 50 years.

We will describe how to make a fence on a summer cottage from corrugated sheets:

1 The supports for it must be strong enough: the resistance to wind load of solid sheets of metal is insufficient. Usually they use standard pipes 40x40x2 mm, which are deepened into the ground by 30-40% of their length.

2 You can also purchase ready-made metal supports with “heels” welded on the bottom. Special metal plates with holes for attaching the logs are welded above. The metal supports at the top are equipped with plugs to protect them from moisture.

3 More durable concrete and brick pillars can also serve as supports.

4 The height of the fence depends on the width or length of the sheet (sheets can also be attached in length).

5 It is better to use it as a lag square pipes 40x20x20 mm. Metal corners are less durable and are not able to provide sufficient resistance to wind loads.

6 You should not use corrugated sheeting that is too thin - it has a high windage and the sheets will bend over time. Optimal thickness 0.45 mm.

There is no need to deepen the foundation for the fence - 30-40 cm is enough. Its width is selected depending on the size of the supporting pillars and the type of fence. When preparing the pit, it is necessary to make an allowance of 10-15 cm to the height of the sand and gravel cushion, which will help protect against moisture and freezing.

Polycarbonate fence

Unlike fencing made of corrugated sheets, cellular polycarbonate is able to absorb noise and dampen sounds. On a site with a fence made of this material, you will be guaranteed a quiet and peaceful environment.

Translucent polycarbonate is also good because it is able to transmit light, and a fence made from it will not shade the plants

With its help, you can completely hide the territory of your garden plot from prying eyes - thanks to its honeycomb structure, it combines the advantages of translucent and solid materials.

Polycarbonate is quite light, easy to cut, and can be used to build buildings of the most unusual shapes. It looks great in combination with forged metal elements.

Polycarbonate fencing in stages

If thin-walled polycarbonate is used in the construction of greenhouses, then for the construction of fencing it is necessary to purchase sheets maximum thickness– they are usually used in the construction of canopies or pavilion roofs.

So, we tell you how to build a polycarbonate fence:

2 It is better to attach polycarbonate sheets to transverse veins, as is the case with profiled metal sheets, and weld metal frames for them and fasten the sheets to them along the entire perimeter.

3 If the height of the fence exceeds 1.5 m, polycarbonate sheets are additionally fixed in the center of the sheet.

Chain-link mesh for fencing

The metal mesh will easily let the sun's rays into the area, and even close to the fence you can plant any kind of plants. The service life of a thick wire fence installed on metal supports is up to 30 years. In case of sagging, the mesh can be easily tightened, giving the structure its original appearance.

Chain-link fencing. Main stages of work

1 It is not advisable to use ordinary non-galvanized mesh. Its service life is short - up to 3-4 years. It will begin to rust immediately after the first rain. It is better to use a galvanized chain-link protected from moisture or plasticized with colored polymers. And this material looks more attractive.

2 On sale there are pipes with a standard section of 60x60 mm with hooks welded to them, designed specifically for attaching chain-link mesh.

3 When using ordinary pipes, it can be secured with steel wire or hooks can be welded to the supports yourself. On each pillar there should be at least three of them on each side: top, bottom and center. TO wooden supports it is attached to nails suitable size, wire or staples.

Tensioning the mesh

1 To tension the mesh, a roll of mesh is placed vertically next to a corner support post and firmly attached to it using wire, hooks, pipe clamps or welding. It is better to place a non-galvanized chain-link at a short distance from the ground so that it does not quickly rust. An indent of 5-10 cm is sufficient.

2 All sharp edges of the mesh must be bent - after all, such wire can easily injure you.

3 Unwind the roll to the next support. We stretch the mesh well and attach it to the post. We begin to move to the next pillar, etc.

Wicker fences

Finally, we’ll tell you about another colorful type of decorative fences created by weaving young flexible shoots. In principle, you can even make it from birch branches.

But still the best material Willow, hazel, aspen, and grapevine are considered for weaving. More modern version– weaving from peeled veneer or thin boards.

Preparation of branches

For weaving, it is advisable to use freshly cut branches of trees and shrubs with a diameter of 2-3 cm. It is desirable that they be more or less equal in size. If they were collected long before the start of work, the lashes need to be soaked for a couple of days in warm water. In this case, they will be more pliable and less fragile.

The branches must first be cleared of bark. To do this, you need to acquire a special tool - a pinch. It can be made from a log with nails driven in and bent at the ends. A classic pincher is a piece of durable wood with a hole made in the center into which branches will be inserted.

You can even involve your grandchildren in this activity.

1 Not only wooden poles, but also metal pipes can be used as supports. They are placed quite often at a distance of 1-1.2 m.

2 Between the main supports, intermediate posts are placed every 40 cm, which will be used for weaving.

3 At the corners of the fence, a couple more pillars are added, on which the ends of the rods will be fixed.

4 Thin vines, for example, of a vineyard, are woven together in bunches. Thick branches are used separately.

5 There are many weaves. To begin with, it is better to practice on the simplest of them, chessboard, in which the branches go around 1-2 support pillars.

6 Every 7-8 passes the branches are fastened together with wire. It can also pass through the entire span from pillar to pillar.

7 The ends of the branches are hidden with inside fencing.

8 For the bottom rows, you need to select the thickest branches. They are attached to the posts with self-tapping screws.

9 To compact the fence, every 3-4 rows of branches are tapped with a rubber hammer (mallet).

10 A small fence for fencing individual areas, for example, flower beds, can be mounted on supports made of small pointed stakes. To protect them from rotting, they are treated with bitumen, machine oil and inserted into plastic tubes.

To prevent the wattle fence from rotting too quickly, dig a drainage ditch along it to drain water and fill it with stones and rubble.

It’s not difficult to come up with a fence design; it’s more difficult to realize the idea of how to do exactly what you want. But when you also want to make money from it, you need to evaluate the attractiveness from the very beginning consumables. After all, the overall structure is often assembled from everything that lies idle or is sold for pennies.

From scrap materials

Now, precisely on the territory of the Russian Federation and the CIS countries, here is what you can choose from:

  • Pallets;
  • Used slate;
  • Plastic (various containers);
  • Production network;
  • Cutting from a sawmill (the most budget-friendly rural option);
  • Shrub branches (collected with your own hands, if available near the construction site);
  • (for a fence or shed, there is no cheaper option);
  • Dismantled wooden barrels (a rare case, but sometimes production shops are forced to sell already broken barrels made of strong wood for pick-up);
  • Scrap metal (if you have transport, you can visit retail outlets and collect poles, crossbars and even some decor for handmade work by weight);
  • Profiled sheet. The most inexpensive;
  • Concrete, cement and decorative.

How to make a cheap fence out of all this? Let's look at it in detail.

Designer novelties

Beautiful photos with original ideas:

Simple design layout. In the photo - a homemade picket fence made of wire, hazel, willow. For a simple fence made of branches with your own hands, you don’t even need to nail anything, just make turns between the supporting parts, and the low fence will be ready very soon. It's a pity that such designs don't last very long. strong winds and precipitation.

Garden option decorative fence in a private house, assembled on its own. And the more leftover paint is used in this option, the brighter the garden itself will look. Boards can also be selected from pallets to create a simple decorative element.

Worth noticing! Such a garden fence is also an impromptu bird feeder and waterer. Very original and inexpensive.

Brick, cement and glass. American new. The materials are not cheap and readily available, but it looks great. Unfortunately, such a design most likely will not last very long due to the intense interest. There will be someone who cannot repeat this.

Copper or other metal at work. Of course, the element is not for everybody. And there is a lot of welding work. But if you make it, for example, from iron beds from past eras, it will be original, free and forever.

Plastic. Even greenhouses have been made from containers for a long time. And they don’t forget about fences. It is advisable, of course, to make small pieces of flat material from empty containers, which are then used to cover buildings or fences. But the above method will also work, just prepare a strong frame in advance.

Euro pallet. Suitable for everything: firewood, building a shed and a fence. Interestingly, the technology for creating the pallets themselves has a drying stage. It turns out that pallets from a warehouse are an ideal building material for an inexpensive fence. And often unloading pallets are sold simply by weight. There should be no knots or defects on small boards.

There is no need to disassemble the pallets to build the fence. The most correct thing to do is as in the photo above - set and secure each of them in turn.

Branches, tree and croaker

Very inexpensive, example in the photo:

It couldn’t be simpler - they insert or hammer in something for support, and then weave it the way your heart desires. Everything that lies under our feet goes to work. Even dry, crooked and heavy oak branches can be the completion of the composition.

Below is a photo of a fence. From a thin branch Such a design, of course, is not particularly durable. But you can secure a ready-made homemade fence with a mesh over the entire area.

Like this (next photo) it is much stronger, more economical and more beautiful. Livestock, forest pests or abandoned dogs will not disturb your territorial space. Moreover, the mesh can be installed not very finely, and it is enough to be one meter from the ground. Above this, such protection is no longer needed.

Mesh combined with wooden frame, carried out according to the right technology(cone-shaped wood, pillars treated with bitumen). Modest, not particularly expensive and reliable. There is no point in sinning with wood, because a fence made of absolutely any material will not last forever. And even monolithic structures are destroyed by atmospheric changes.

Carved grace. This is a small work of art. Although earlier, when most of the population of our country lived on private lands, there were carved elements in every yard. This had several meanings: wealth, neatness, skill and respect for tradition.

Below - garden fence made from pallets processed protective compounds.

fence board goes together very nicely with concrete base and pillar.

By the way, the “fence board” comes in several grades (grade 1-3). If there is a lot of crooked wood at the sawmill, then grade 3 fence boards will accumulate in cubic meters. Externally, of course, there are differences, but this is the same wood that is used in construction. It’s more of a hassle with her, but for such low price this is forgiven her. And if the 1st grade costs from 3 thousand per 1 cubic meter, the 3rd grade will cost 1.5-1.8.

It’s also interesting that cheap lumber is not bought quickly, so it’s easy to find dried, inexpensive fence boards in warehouses or yards.

Original wood processing

Using Japanese technology now you can burn fence boards, giving a brown tint. Similar processing for natural material only needed once. Moreover, a thin layer of burnt wood is resistant to dampness, and natural processing can only be replaced with expensive paint, the service life of which leaves much to be desired. Burn several dozen boards with oxygen or blowtorch convenient, practical and original.

Slate, corrugated sheets, concrete and mesh

If you hire new slate, then it would be better to order a flat version designed for 1 span. Such material is easy to replace if it breaks, and it looks discreet, thorough, and more solid.

Used slate often with a wave. It is rarely used on the front part, except for visors. However, the back side of the site, closed from the eyes of everyone and everything, also needs fencing. This is where they find a use for the old slate from their grandfather’s house or barn.

Interesting fact! Slate, produced in the 70-80s of the 20th century, is very fragile, but durable. If no cracks are created during transportation and installation, then it will remain in the fence for decades.

Classic rules for working with your own hands on corrugated sheets and metal frames. As shown in the figure, for a high fence (above 2 meters) it is more correct to make 3 logs. Well, the span is no more than 2.5 meters.

Patterned grids. Long and painstaking work. Must be carried out according to a project or pattern. Of course, you will have to work hard, but you can sell such works. Or hire a designer if there is interest in your ideas.

Cheap, beautiful and original. Use in decorative elements everything is possible: from forks to car hubs. And it doesn’t matter how it all will look exactly in big picture, because different elements made of iron or other material cannot be unattractively assembled into one structure.

Profiled sheet or corrugated sheet on wooden frame . An option for those who do not have welding skills. It is better to make the frame itself more stable, although sheets placed horizontally will give the necessary rigidity. It is advisable to treat the wood protective equipment based on drying oil.

Concrete or brick fences. There are a lot of shades, decorative elements and, accordingly, costs. It is more profitable to make only the base from stone, placing it in the center of each span wood, forging, sheets of flooring or even factory plastic.

Estimated cost

Let's look at the example of a standard 6 acres of dacha plot:

Type of fence Materials Quantity of materials Cost per unit, rub. Amounts, rub.
Wooden fence with concrete base Cement (concrete); 11 cubic meters; 3 thousand; 33 thousand
pillars (logs); From 50 pieces; 450; 22 thousand
logs (timber); 40 pieces; 150; 6 thousand
fence board (grade 2-3). 200-250 pieces. 60. 15 thousand
Result: 76 thousand for building materials.
Mesh with concrete base Concrete; 11 cubic meters; 3 thousand; 33 thousand
Pipes for the frame; 89Х40; 1500; 78 thousand
Wooden logs; 50 pieces.

200-250 pieces;

108; 3.7 thousand
Net. 170 square meters. 60. 9.4 thousand
Result: material without delivery 124 thousand.

These are prices for the central region. And if we count the turnkey supply of the above materials, then we need to add up to 50 thousand for labor and delivery.

Results

Fences made of stone, brick and decorative components cost twice as much as fences made of mesh or wood.

It’s easy to guess that it’s most profitable to do what you’ve planned with your own hands, using the same Euro pallet or used pallet. After all, with high-quality installation, they look much more original. The price of the work is cheap; the material itself can be ordered from 100 rubles per piece. 1 element is a whole meter of almost assembled fence. Decide for yourself what is best for a regular fence.

Video instructions

About how to do inexpensive fence, says Ivan Galkin.

Arrangement of a summer cottage necessarily involves the installation of a fence. He performs important function on protection local area from the entry of unwanted guests, animals and prying eyes. The fence also clearly marks your entire territory. Today, fences come in a variety of types.

Country fences can be made of a variety of materials, which have their own distinctive features. In this article we will divide all existing structures according to the classifications of their structures and materials used. We will present to your attention the main types of garden fences. After which, it will be much easier for you to make your choice.

Classification of fences by design

There are 3 types of classifications by design:

  1. Open.
  2. Deaf.
  3. Combined.

An open fence in a country house is used very often. He has plenty positive aspects. For example, its construction will be quite cheap. In addition to saving on building materials, the pace of its construction is greatly accelerated. In just a short period of time, you will have a new open fence at your dacha. Open does not provide much shade. This allows you to plant a variety of plants, especially those that need sunlight.

As for blind structures in the country, such structures are mainly built for the purpose of protecting one’s territory from prying eyes. Plus, less dust penetrates through a solid fence at the dacha. There are plants that are unpretentious and can be planted along a blind fence, even if there is a lot of shade there. Some summer residents even plant fruit trees.

The last type of design is combined. These can be either simple structures or complex ones. There are no special rules here. For example, a part may be blind, but some elements are open. In this case, you can use various building materials and technologies. It all depends on your vision of the whole situation. This article provides many options for fences for a dacha in the photo. This will help you make your choice.

Advice! When choosing a fence design for your dacha, consider who your neighbors are, the landscape, financial capabilities and personal preferences.

Classification by materials

Now we come to a larger section that requires serious research. Modern market offers a wide variety building materials, which allow you to build a simple fence in the shortest possible period of time. We invite you to consider the following categories:

  • Tree.
  • Metal.
  • Polycarbonate.
  • Precast concrete/brick.

Wood

If we talk about the availability of material, then wood best option. Wooden fences built at the dacha are distinguished by their durability and beauty. However, such a structure requires special and regular maintenance, for example, painting and replacing rotten fence elements from time to time. Plus, it is recommended to treat wood with fire retardants and other antiseptics to protect it from negative effects environment. As for other disadvantages, this is the possibility that under the influence of atmospheric conditions the wood may crack, change color, etc.

Today there are many varieties of what kind of fences can be built from wood in the country. For example, a log house is often used. Beautifully laid horizontal beams will give your dacha a beautiful and unique look. Some install the bars vertically. This is a more labor-intensive process, but the result is worth it.

Among other things, a picket fence is used. This classic version construction of a wooden fence for a summer house. In this case, the structure may be open or closed. Using a picket fence allows you to grow different flowers near the fence. Light can penetrate through the picket fence, which will have a beneficial effect on the development of plants. So if you want beautiful fence, then the tree is a good solution. However, remember, before installing it, it is necessary to carry out high-quality preparation and processing.

Metal

Today you can find many original metal fences for your dacha. This includes forged fences made from chain-link mesh, corrugated sheets, reinforcement, etc. Let's look at some of the features of these materials.

Corrugated sheeting is often used for the construction of blind structures. Its main distinguishing features are durability and reliability. On the market, corrugated sheets are presented in different color solutions.

Attention! Installing a fence made of corrugated board at a dacha is a troublesome task. It is important to be careful not to deform the corrugated sheet during installation.

For such a fence it is necessary to build columnar foundation with metal supports. When working, it is necessary to use a welding machine to weld the crossbars onto which the corrugated sheets will be attached directly.

You can also do metal fence from a picket fence. This is a good alternative to building from corrugated sheets. In appearance, such a fence looks much more beautiful. You can also make it yourself. It is necessary to install metal support pillars on the base and weld the cross members. The frame design is the same as that of a corrugated fence.

Advice! For a more attractive look, the support pillars can be made of natural stone, and fill the spans with a metal picket fence.

A mesh fence also falls into this category. The metal mesh netting will last for many years. This is a type of open structure. To install it, you need to install support pillars. They can be metal and wood. On the market, chain-link mesh is sold in different colors y decisions. Although we are talking about metal mesh, similar material is also made of plastic.

Precast concrete or brick

If you want to build a permanent fence, then this is where it comes in handy reinforced concrete structures or brick. These materials are durable. Their construction requires a lot of financial investments and labor costs. But the end result will allow you to use it for many years and even more than one generation. There are many construction technologies. You can see the fences for the dacha in the photo below.

Polycarbonate

This type of fencing looks quite original. Polycarbonate is available in different colors, which allows you to build a beautiful fence for your garden. It is worth noting that this material is quite fragile. Therefore, there is always a risk of damage. Plus, polycarbonate can be combined with other materials. For example, build support pillars from brick and fill the spans with polycarbonate.

Fences made from scrap materials

This type of fence can be built from the most different materials, which is located at your dacha. We invite you to consider several options. For example, the fence can be wicker. For this purpose, willow rods are collected and a fence for the dacha is woven from them. It is very cheap and does not require much time to build it.

There is an idea to use plastic or glass bottles of different colors. Also, some craftsmen build fences at their dachas from old car tires. They can be laid in a checkerboard pattern. Flower beds with fresh flowers are often planted near such fences. In a word, there are many options for making fences for a summer house from scrap materials. The main condition is to use your imagination and creativity. You can use leftover building materials and combine them with each other. The end result can be a beautiful combination.

Conclusion

So, we have considered the most different variants fences that you can build at your dacha with your own hands. Of course, some of them require large financial investments and labor costs. Some fencing can be made quickly and relatively cheaply. The choice is yours. On the Internet you can also find many ideas from scrap materials. There are several photos on this topic in this article.

If the time has come to change the fencing of the site, or there is a need to fence off a new territory, then the question immediately arises of how to install a fence with your own hands, without resorting to the help of various construction companies. This is especially true if the owner of the site is limited in funds.

Will it be possible to carry out this process independently? It all depends on the type of fence and the material from which it is planned to be built. But it’s immediately clear that in order to build a fence for a site made of brick, concrete or concrete slabs, it is necessary to do quite labor-intensive work, so at least one assistant will be needed.

What to consider?

Knowing all the advantages and disadvantages of various types of fencing, you will be able to assess your strengths and decide what material to build a fence from.

When choosing the type of fencing, you need to think about how the color and textured pattern of the fence will fit into the design of its entire site, if it is decorated in the same style.

Another criterion that needs to be taken into account is the openness and closedness of the fence, i.e. will it be solid or have a through pattern.

If you want to isolate yourself from the outside world so that your rest or work on the site is not disturbed by strangers, including neighbors, then it is better to install a continuous fence.

An area open to the gaze of passers-by is suitable for those owners who want to show everyone what a beautiful house they have or wonderful flower beds, as well as sociable people who cannot imagine their life in a space completely enclosed by a fence.

If the fence is being installed on a new site, and it is planned to build it from concrete, then it would be a good idea to check how deep the groundwater lies underground. Otherwise, there is a risk that in a couple of years the structure will sag and become distorted.

Another important point is the cost of materials. It is necessary to calculate it, having found out the prices in advance, having derived the total amount, another 15% is usually added to it. This is because, as a rule, it is impossible to provide for everything perfectly, and in the process of work you will definitely have to purchase any missing components.

So, first you need to familiarize yourself with the types of fences and the rules for their installation.

Concrete fence

A concrete fence can easily be called the most practical and reliable construction of all other types, but only if it is installed correctly.

A concrete fence is not just “boring” gray walls

This type of fencing has several types, since thanks to modern technologies and developments, in recent years fences have begun to be produced and installed, which in themselves are already decorative elements that decorate the territory of the site.

A variety of types, colors and textured patterns allows you to choose an option that will perfectly match the style of the already constructed house structure.

Reinforced concrete fences have a lot of positive qualities, which is why they are increasingly preferred to other fences. These advantages include:

  • Durability and strength of the material in a properly installed structure.
  • On level ground concrete surface Any finishing material fits perfectly, be it decorative plaster or decorative tiles.
  • If a monolithic fence is being erected, it can be raised to any height without gaps or joints.
  • If you choose a fence consisting of individual narrow slabs, then its installation is carried out quite quickly - the entire structure can be erected literally in one day.
  • Concrete construction is the most economical of all other permanent fences.

However, such fences, along with positive, also have negative aspects:

Concrete structures are quite heavy, so they cannot be installed on loose or granular soils, or they will require special reinforcement during installation.

Installation concrete fence- much more expensive than fences made of lumber or corrugated sheets.

When installing a fence consisting of separate sections, it is often impossible to do without special equipment for lifting and installing them, the call of which is also expensive.

If you are installing a monolithic concrete fence, then you will definitely need a concrete mixer, since you will need a very large amount of solution, which is simply impossible to make by hand.

For all concrete fences without exception, a reliable foundation is required.

From all that has been said, we can come to the conclusion that erecting a concrete fence is a rather troublesome and expensive undertaking, but such a structure will last for many decades without special care, so this choice can be considered very practical.

Foundation for concrete fencing

Since without a foundation for concrete structure there is no way around it, you need to know what kind of work will have to be done to arrange it.

A concrete fence is installed on, which is poured into next sequence:

  • The first step is to mark the area for further trench digging.

When marking, it is taken into account that the width of the foundation strip should be 100 ÷ 150 mm greater than the thickness of the fence. The depth of the trench to be torn off should be 800 ÷ 1000 mm.

  • Next, moistened sand is poured into the bottom of the trench, which must be thoroughly compacted. The layer of sand cushion should be 120 ÷ 150 mm compacted.
  • A polyethylene film is laid over the sand, which will serve to protect the foundation from the effects of ground moisture. The film should come out of the trench by 500 ÷ 700 mm, since further along the pit the formwork will be erected to raise the foundation above the soil surface by 200 ÷ 400 mm.
  • A layer of gravel is poured onto the film - 100 ÷ 150 mm is enough.

  • A reinforcement structure is installed on the gravel, which will add strength to the foundation.
  • After marking the distance between the fence posts, pipes or a reinforcement truss are welded to the reinforcement - this will serve as a support for the further construction of the posts.

  • Next, wooden formwork is placed along the trench. Plastic film is left inside it and later brought out over the edges of the upper boards. The film will not allow concrete to leak into the cracks between the boards, and thus the moisture will not evaporate too quickly, and concrete mortar will evenly gain the required strength.

  • Then the trench is filled with concrete mortar made from gravel-sand mixture and cement, in a 3:1 ratio.
  • If the fence will enclose a large area, then it is best to order concrete ready-made, since mixing such a large amount of mortar yourself is quite difficult, given that the foundation must be poured at once, completely from the bottom to the top of the formwork. Otherwise, unnecessary gaps may remain between the layers, and if water gets into them and the temperature drops, the foundation may be damaged.
  • The surface of the poured concrete is leveled and left to harden and harden.
  • Typically, intersection columns are made of brick, but they can also be made of concrete. To do this, a corresponding formwork of boards is built around the reinforcement structure or pipe, which is also filled with concrete.
  • If the fence sections consist of several prefabricated elements, then special ones with side grooves are used for their installation, into which decorative plates are then inserted.

It should be noted that if this fence option is chosen, then it can be arranged by carefully marking the distance between the posts. However, after installation, the pillars must be tied together with a border. It is poured in the same way as with a strip foundation; it is also strengthened with reinforcement, but is buried only 200 ÷ 250 mm.

Types of concrete fences

Various types of concrete fences can be installed on a finished foundation. Thus, concrete fences are divided into monolithic, block, prefabricated and typesetting types, as well as self-standing ones.

Stacked fences

Prefabricated fences consist of several sections, which are installed in turn into the grooves of already vertically aligned posts. Typically, fences of this type have several sections, the upper of which differs from the lower in that they are decorated with decorative elements in the form of balusters or relief designs.

Decorative stacked concrete fence with an “openwork” top section

Such fences are installed on strip foundations, which will raise them above the soil to the required height, or on a columnar foundation with curbs installed between the posts.

Prefabricated fence

The prefabricated fence consists of individual elements, from which sections of identical shape are assembled. The number of elements in each section can vary, usually from three to five - it depends on what height of the fence is required. Sometimes sections of different colors or having different relief patterns are purchased - this to some extent helps to make the fences more picturesque and less boring.

The foundation for a prefabricated fence can be either strip or columnar.

Block fences

This type of fence is made of concrete (foam concrete or aerated concrete) blocks, which have the shape of large bricks, and, accordingly, are laid according to the principle brickwork. However, very often, decorative elements can be additionally used in construction, which are of the appropriate size and fit perfectly into the overall block structure.

Elements intended for the construction of columns, for example, are placed on support pillars embedded in the foundation.

All elements are laid on cement mortar, resulting in a durable structure.

Just like brick, block masonry requires special skill. It is not as easy as it seems to build a smooth wall from relatively small-sized elements. That's why , doing work must be kept on hand building level and control the verticality of the fence along a plumb line.

Often such a fence made from ordinary blocks will require decorative finishing plastering or tiling.

Such a fence will always cost more than a conventional sectional fence made of reinforced concrete, since in addition to the material itself, one must take into account the considerable cost of masonry work and final finishing.

Fencing made of monolithic slabs

Monolithic slabs are easy to install because the entire length of the fence can be installed on a prepared foundation in just one day. For the construction of pillars, elements that are designed for block type fences are often used. Can .

If ordinary smooth ones are used for fencing concrete plates, then in order for the fence to acquire aesthetic appearance, it is being drawn up decorative plaster in combination with artificial or natural stone.

You can purchase already decorated slabs, but they will be much more expensive. In addition, they may be damaged during transportation or unloading, which means they will have to be repaired later.

Self fence

This type of fencing is most often used for temporary installation on the territory of various objects under construction, since they do not require the construction of a foundation for them. Sections of such a fence are perfectly installed on a wide lower part. Once the need for fencing has passed, the sections are dismantled, loaded onto transport and transported to the next facility.

In practice individual construction Despite the ease of installation, such fences are usually not used.

Brick fence

A brick fence has a very respectable appearance, and it looks especially harmonious if the house located on the site is also built of brick.

The process of erecting such a fence requires a lot of experience in such work, just as it may seem to an amateur eye that laying bricks is a simple and accessible task for anyone. In fact, every master has his own secrets that allow him to make the fence neat and durable.

The foundation for such a fence is arranged in the same way as for a concrete fence, because in general the entire structure turns out to be quite massive.

Brick fences can be completely closed, or the masonry can be combined with other elements, for example, with gratings. In the latter case, the entire area will be visible, and the fence will only protect against unwanted guests entering the territory, but will not close the territory from prying eyes.

Brick fencing has its advantages, as well as disadvantages, which you need to know about before choosing this option.

Advantages of a brick fence:

  1. A properly constructed brick fence is strong and durable and should last at least five to six decades without any problems. And if after this period a competent restoration is carried out, the fence will last the same amount of time.
  2. Such fences have a very aesthetic, neat appearance.
  3. A brick fence does not require special care in the form of painting or cleaning, which saves time and effort for site owners.

Disadvantages of brick fencing

  1. The complexity and duration of construction, especially without the proper experience.
  2. The price of materials is quite high and their delivery is difficult.
  3. Such a fence requires the construction of a reliable continuous strip foundation.

To lay a fence, you need to purchase fireclay bricks - only in this case the fence will not require additional cladding. If ordinary building bricks are used, the masonry will most often not be very beautiful, without clearly defined corners and edges. The laying must be done with jointing, carefully shaping the seams, otherwise the entire appearance of the fence will be ruined.

Laying process

In order for the fence to be strong and have a respectable appearance, the masonry must be carried out immediately along the entire length of the fence. And the work must be done consistently.

Fence walls can be laid in half a brick or in one brick.

Laying a fence “in brick”
  • Before laying the walls, a thin strip is stretched between the pillars. rope, which is aligned horizontally. This will help make the rows of masonry perfectly even, since the first row sets the evenness of the rest of the masonry.
  • The first step is to lay out the first three rows in columns.
  • The columns are laid out around supports embedded in the foundation, which are pipes or reinforcing trusses.

  • Then follows the laying of bricks in the walls of the fence to the same height. Further, it is necessary to take into account the necessary connection of the pillars with the walls laid out in the spans between the pillars. This is carried out using pieces of reinforcement, which are laid on top of the third row on columns and wall spans. Usually two pieces of reinforcement are laid on both sides of the pole. In this case, the laid out walls must have at least 500 ÷ 700 mm of reinforcement.

  • You can also use reinforcing mesh for the bundle - it is laid in the same way as pieces of reinforcement.
  • The mentioned connecting parts are always laid (recessed) on a concrete solution previously applied to the surface.
  • The reinforcement procedure is repeated every three rows.
  • Starting from the seventh row, the laying of columns and walls is carried out simultaneously.
  • You can carry out the connection in another way, when first all the columns are raised completely, and then the walls.

In this case, you will have to drill holes in the walls of the pillars to install reinforcing sections in them. Agree that this method is longer and more labor-intensive. In addition, when drilling, you can accidentally damage the integrity of the brick pillars.

  • The easiest way to ensure that the masonry seams have the same thickness throughout their entire length is to use metal wire with a diameter of 8-10 mm, the rods of which are laid along the edges of the masonry walls on both sides. These elements can remain in the masonry, but then a large amount of wire will be needed. It is better to remove them after the solution has set and continue to use them in the same way. The photo clearly shows the segments that fix the thickness of the seams.

So, for example, you can prepare ten segments of the required length, which will be equal to the length of the span between the pillars.

Then five rows are laid using wire. After this, the wire is carefully pulled out from the lowest seam and used in the sixth row (by this time the mortar in the masonry should have set and no subsidence will follow). So gradually the segments are transferred from below to the upper rows.

After raising 4 ÷ 5 rows of masonry, while the mortar has not yet set strongly, after pulling out the metal rods, it is recommended to immediately do decorative jointing. If necessary, mortar is added to the seams, and excess concrete that gets on the brick wall is immediately removed.

Processing seams with “joint jointing”
  • To ensure that the fence remains in its original form as long as possible, after the concrete has dried and gained the necessary strength, the brick surface, cleared of dirt and dust, is covered with waterproofing impregnation. It penetrates deep and protects it from moisture, giving the material pronounced hydrophobic qualities.

The surface is covered with a roller, and after drying it becomes visually invisible. When it rains, drops of water will immediately flow down the wall without being absorbed into the brick or seams.

You should not take on the job of building a brick fence yourself if you have no experience in laying bricks. You will never get a perfectly beautiful and even wall the first time. It is better to trust an experienced mason who has erected similar fences more than once - he will do his job much better and faster than a beginner.

Wooden fences

Having prepared all the elements and tools, you can proceed to the process of erecting the fence. Installation work is carried out in stages:

  1. As with the construction of any fence, the territory is first marked. Along the marked line to determine the location of the support pillars.
  2. Installation of pillars can be done in two ways:

- Driving into the ground. When choosing this method of installing supports, the pipe must be driven to a depth of at least 1 ÷ 1.20 m;

— . In this case, the pillars can be installed at a shallower depth - usually ⅓ of the pillar height is enough, which will remain above the soil surface. With this technology, before installing the pillars, it will be necessary to drill holes with a diameter exceeding the diameter tr pipe 3 ÷ 4 times. A sand cushion is poured onto the bottom of the pit, which must be well compacted, and in the compacted state its thickness should be at least 100 ÷ 120 mm.

At the bottom of the column, in two or three places, pieces of reinforcement are welded perpendicularly, protruding beyond the boundaries of the column in both directions by 70 ÷ 80 mm.

After the column is installed in the hole, a rough concrete solution with crushed stone.

Then the column is set strictly vertically and fixed with stones, which are firmly installed in the concrete solution, in the space between the column and the ground.

Having installed all the pillars in this way, they are left to set for several days.

  • Next, transverse crossbars are welded onto the installed posts. They also need to be installed level, aligned to the ideal horizontal.
  • The next stage is the installation of corrugated sheeting. Sheets can be secured to the joists using rivets or self-tapping screws, which are matched by color. In any case, you will have to drill holes in the sheet and the welded crossbar for fastening elements.

Special “roofing” screws for fastening corrugated sheets
  • Fastenings are made into the lower part of the corrugated sheet wave, at a distance from each other of approximately 500 mm.

Installation of the fence goes quite quickly, especially if there is a skilled assistant nearby. It is quite possible to cope with this work even in one day, of course, with the support pillars already installed.

Other types of fences

In addition to those mentioned, ready-made fence sections are installed from galvanized metal rods, which have a protective PVC coating. This fencing option is installed in the same way as corrugated sheeting - on support posts, however, there are models that have their own special stands. Fences with stands do not require installation of posts - just prepare flat surface, covered with fine crushed stone. The frames of such fences are fastened together.

The fencing sections have sharp upper edges, therefore, despite the external lightness of the structure and her not too high, it is not so easy to overcome such a fence.

This type of fencing is quite durable and should last 25-30 years.

Another option for a “budget” fence is one stretched on installed metal posts, connected to each other with metal rods for rigidity. It is better to install the chain-link with helpers, since the mesh requires stretching and immediate fastening.

For its installation, posts are used that have special welded hooks, which, immediately after putting the mesh on them, are nailed to the support post.

This type of fence is usually installed on summer cottages or on the border between adjacent territories.

When planning to install a fence yourself, you need to first evaluate own strength, skill and financial capabilities. You should not take on complex work, such as fixing bricks, without experience and sufficient knowledge. Effort, time and money may be wasted, and an ineptly erected fence will have to be dismantled and another fence installed.

Fencing the site is the primary task of the summer resident. Gardeners are trying to make it inexpensive and reliable. It is not difficult to build a good fence yourself. A cheap fence for a summer house will not cost much if you choose materials with a low price. Sometimes you can get them for free with some time and intelligence. Examples of this include wattle fence, ranch style fencing, plastic bottles, other used items.

What are the requirements for fencing of summer cottages?

Each summer resident has his own requirements, but all land owners expect that country fence will:

  • strong, durable;
  • cheap;
  • providing reliable protection from those who like to profit from someone else’s harvest, lost animals, and curious glances;
  • indicating the boundaries of the site.

Types of country fences

Cheap fences for summer cottages are divided into groups according to the materials used. After analyzing this classification, it is easier to decide what to make an inexpensive fence from.

Those who consider cheapness the main thing can save in two ways: choose the most cheap material and install a fence at the dacha with your own hands, that is, profit on installation. The most affordable material should be chosen. It will be different for everyone. Saving resources on the foundation is achieved by choosing lightweight fencing elements.

Wooden fencing

The tree is popular due to its low price and availability. Processing does not require highly qualified workers or special equipment. Most a budget option- a low picket fence made of wooden planks.

To build a wicker fence, you need support posts and soft branches of bushes. Intermediate stakes are driven between the posts. Parallel to the surface of the earth, stakes and support poles are entwined with flexible thin branches of bushes and trees. There is also vertical weaving, when crossbars are nailed to the supports and the rods are laid vertically. The fence does not require painting. Having spent time on weaving, you get an almost free fence. It is easy to repair by replacing damaged rods.

A ranch-style fence, where several crossbars are attached to support posts, does not require a lot of materials. An excellent option for those who wield an ax and hammer. The time required for installation is small. Such a fence limits the territory and protects against the invasion of large animals.

Metal fences

Metal fences are more expensive than wooden ones, but they pay off in greater durability and strength. Such a fence can be bought cheaply for your dacha due to high competition among manufacturers.

Metal mesh fences

Mesh fences perfectly perform the function of marking the territory, protecting from uninvited guests, but not from the curiosity of neighbors. Therefore, it is combined with camouflage netting and hedges. As a result, the fence does not shade the area, allowing sunlight to pass through.

Several types are used for fencing metal mesh. The most popular:

  • chain link;
  • welded;
  • channeled.

When installing chain-link mesh, two techniques are used:

  • pulling;
  • installation of sections.
Along the upper and lower edges of the chain-link, reinforcement is passed into the cells, which is welded to the support posts.

Other techniques involve the construction sectional fence. The frame is made from profile pipe or corner. The inner fabric made of chain-link is attached to it. The structures are stronger than tension structures, but they are more expensive and more difficult to manufacture. For self-made You need a welding machine, an inexpensive metal profile for the fence, frame and support posts. Therefore, buying a turnkey fence for a dacha is often cheaper than building it yourself.

Fences made of corrugated sheets

The inexpensive category includes fencing made of metal profile. It is durable, solid, and creates reliable protection. The corrugated profile has additional rigidity and resistance to wind. It is better to choose sheets with a polymer coating; they do not require maintenance and will last up to 15-20 years. The fence will look harmonious with any landscape design plot, the architecture of the house thanks to the ability to choose the desired tone from a variety of color palette. The material allows you to build a fence of any height. It has a modern look. Combining with stone, brick, metal, and other materials increases the cost of the structure, but increases its durability, sound insulation, and allows you to create a design that harmoniously fits into any landscape of the site.

Metal picket fence

Fences for dachas made of metal picket fences do not have centuries-old history, but popular among summer residents. They are neat and easy to install. The planks are produced with upper ends of various shapes. Big choice The colors of the planks allow you to emphasize the individuality of the design. The barrier is visible and does not obscure the area. A fence with metal support posts or with brick supports and parapet. For those who cannot make a fence themselves, there is always the opportunity to order a fence for a summer house with a turnkey gate and wicket. Photos are available in special booklets.

Plastic picket fence

A plastic picket fence looks aesthetically pleasing and is inexpensive, which is used for fencing areas, flower beds, and zoning space within a site. It is easy to install with your own hands and does not require maintenance. The service life often exceeds the service life of wooden and metal fences. The only negative is that it provides little protection from outside intrusions.

How to build it yourself

The principles for installing fencing are the same, regardless of the material used:

  1. Along the perimeter of the site, support pillars are buried in the ground. Depending on the material and design of the fence, they are hammered, buried or concreted.
  2. Cross members are attached to the support posts.
  3. Mesh, boards, profile sheet or ready-made fence sections.
  4. Wooden fences are protected with special impregnations from moisture and the destructive effects of bacteria and insects; metal fences are coated with an anti-corrosion compound.
  5. After this apply decorative coating, if necessary.

Easiest to build. It will cost less if you buy not prepared boards and beams at a building materials store, but unprocessed boards at a warehouse or sawmill. Clearing the bark, leveling and planing is not that difficult if you want to make the fence cheaper.

Action plan

The construction of such a fence begins with planning:

  1. Measure the perimeter of the area to be fenced.
  2. Define total length fence
  3. On the plan, and then, using pegs and a cord, the location of the supports is marked on the ground. The distance between them should be from 2 m to 3 m. The height of the fence, ease of calculation should be taken into account, as well as the fact that this is exactly the length that will need to be prepared for the crossbars - the beams to which the pickets are nailed. Determine the number of supports.

How to prepare support pillars

For supporting posts of a wooden fence, logs with a diameter of 6 cm or more, square or rectangular beams of approximately the same size are most often taken. The length of the support is determined by the height of the fence and the depth of its location in the ground. Support pillars buried by 1-1.5 m. The higher the fence, the thicker the support should be, the deeper it goes into the ground.

Having decided on the length and number of support posts, we begin to prepare them. The lower ends are burned with a blowtorch, soaked in used machine oil, and covered with bitumen or special mastic to protect against moisture and prevent wood rotting. The part of the support located above the ground surface is treated with antiseptics, insecticides, and protective compounds. These substances protect the tree from the activity of bacteria and insects and moisture.

For supports, profiled metal and asbestos pipes filled with sand or concrete are also used.

Preparation of boards and crossbars

The boards are cleared of bark, then the defects are sorted out: cracked, with through knots, infected with mold. Material with such defects cannot be used for a fence; it will not last long and may break even during the construction process.

For crossbars choose strong bars rectangular section long enough to securely attach them to the supports.

The veins and pickets, similar to the supports, are treated with protective compounds containing antiseptics and insecticides.

Construction of a picket fence

After preparing all the elements of the fence, they begin to build the fence:

  1. In the places designated for supports, dig a hole with a shovel or earth drill. To better remove moisture, add sand and crushed stone to the bottom in a layer of up to 5 cm. A support is lowered strictly vertically into the hole and filled broken brick, stones, soil, compacting tightly.
  2. On the pillars, places for attaching crossbars are marked, which are located strictly horizontally. They are nailed or self-tapping screws using a screwdriver.
  3. Vertical strips are attached to the veins in the same way.
  4. It is recommended to coat the finished fence with a primer, then varnish and paint. If left uncoated, the service life will be reduced.

Decorating fences

To make a home-made fence more attractive, many methods are used:

  1. Fences made of wood, stone, and metal are decorated with climbing plants. This method is especially relevant for visible fences. In addition to its decorative function, it protects the area from prying eyes. Ivy, hops, wild grapes, and climbing roses are planted along the fence. Prickly thickets of rosehip, barberry, and hawthorn will help protect against invasion.
  2. A mesh fence is decorated with artificial plant material, passing tape into the mesh cells. The material does not require maintenance, but it will have to be replaced periodically.
  3. A fence made of corrugated sheets will be decorated with applied ornaments or forging elements.

On a site where summer residents visit once a week and on holidays, it is not economically feasible to erect a massive, expensive fence. But a cheap fence can also be beautiful, reliable and durable, and meet all the requirements for fencing. This requires a creative approach, time, and basic skills. The reward for your efforts will be an attractive fence - a source of pride for the owners.
