Finishing the slopes of the front door with your own hands

A new entrance or interior door, no matter how original and beautiful design it may have, its appearance will not look complete without high-quality slopes. Slopes are necessary to perform aesthetic and thermal insulation functions. The process of installing slopes is a crucial moment that needs to be taken seriously, since today different technologies and materials for decoration are used.

Slopes for entrance doors are an integral part. Their installation requires special attention when choosing a material and a method of finishing.

Slope design options

Those who are interested in how to make slopes on the door need, first of all, to familiarize themselves with the existing methods for their design. To date, there are several different options for installing slopes on the door, depending on the chosen finishing material and technology. When performing installation on your own, you need to take into account all the recommendations of experts and make sure that the materials chosen for finishing are durable, have thermal insulation properties and are practical.

Slopes are a mandatory element that is installed on any type of door. For their decoration, materials such as drywall, wood, plastic panels, MDF and others can be used. During installation, the slope should not be allowed to form voids, as they reduce the service life of slopes and cladding. On top of the mortar or putty, many types of materials can be attached. The main task in their choice is to achieve organicity and aesthetics in the interior.

In the event that during finishing it becomes necessary to use a large amount of mortar, for example, in order to align the corners, then a frame is mounted on the slopes. To create such a frame, you can use both a metal profile and wooden slats.

An important point: if you finish the slopes on the frame, then the surface is more even than when puttying the walls.

Finishing the slopes of the front door is a complex process, since it is necessary to achieve the maximum life of the doorway and its resistance to mechanical damage. Finishing can be done in the following ways:

  • using . Thanks to the use of this material, all defects and irregularities can be corrected. In addition, using drywall, you can save yourself the extra cost of buying putty, which is usually used for leveling. With this method of finishing, there is no need to install a frame base;
  • with plaster. This method is the most economical and convenient, since you can make slopes for the front doors with your own hands. The working surface is covered with plaster, and then finishing is performed;
  • finishing with plastic panels. This material is very often used in window decoration. Plastic is not often used when finishing a doorway, as it stands out strongly against the background of wood, from which the inside of the front door is usually made. In addition, plastic panels do not differ in strength and durability;
  • wood trim. The use of wooden panels in the design of slopes is the most common solution. This is due to the fact that wood is a very strong and durable material. In addition, it always looks good in any design and interior. Therefore, if there are difficulties in choosing a material and it is difficult to decide how to finish the slopes of the front door, then you should choose a tree, because this is one hundred percent option.

Drywall slopes

This material is not used for finishing slopes, but only for preparing the base for them. Drywall can be used if you need to save money on the purchase of leveling compounds. Installation work should begin with priming and cleaning the walls. Next, you need to do the following:

  1. After the primer is completely dry, you need to take measurements and prepare materials. Some parts of drywall that will be attached to a deviated surface need to be cut at a slight angle;
  2. Then you need to check whether all the cut elements fit the dimensions of the opening;
  3. At this stage, you need to install the panels on glue or dowels. It is better to mount on glue, so the sheets will be installed more evenly;
  4. First of all, the side parts are mounted, and at the very last stage, the top is installed;
  5. It is possible to apply glue to the surface both pointwise and in continuous stripes;
  6. After installing drywall, you can start finishing using putty;

Finishing slopes with plaster

Using plaster to finish door slopes is the easiest option. It is performed as follows:

  1. The surface of the doorway must be cleaned and primed;
  2. Next, you need to wait until the primer dries and you can start applying the mixture, for which it is best to use a spatula;
  3. To make the corners of the opening even, you need to use corners. They are fixed to the opening and covered with plaster;
  4. Further, when the plaster dries, it should be rubbed with sandpaper;
  5. Now the surface can be coated with paints and varnishes.

Plastic trim panels

Finishing slopes can be done using plastic panels. For this you need:

  1. Measure the doorway and its slopes. Cut out panels of the required dimensions from plastic. In this case, it is best to use an ordinary knife for cutting, and not a power tool, since this is the only way to ensure that the cut points are even;
  2. Further, the resulting panels must be leaned against the opening and check whether they match in size;
  3. The side slopes are mounted first. Using self-tapping screws, you need to attach a special profile, and then wooden slats are attached to the edge of the wall. It is important to check all installed elements using a level. The panels will be mounted on rails with brackets;
  4. A plug should be placed at the bottom of the opening on the panel. Finishing material is inserted into the initial profile and on the sides. In the same way, the slopes are finished in the upper part of the opening;
  5. At the final stage, you need to process all the seams and joints with silicone to ensure they are completely sealed.

Slopes made of wood

Wood, as a finishing material, is well suited for doors of any type and type. It is recommended to use only natural material or MDF panels, which, by the way, have high thermal insulation properties. However, sometimes their dimensions may not fit the dimensions of the slopes. Then a good replacement is laminate.

The process must begin, first of all, with the process of sealing the seams that have formed between the wall and the door frame using mounting foam. Excess foam must be removed, and the surface cleaned and primed. After the shape for the slopes is selected, the panels should be installed. In the course of work, it should be ensured that the wooden planks used have the same thickness and length parameters.

With the help of dowels, a frame or wooden slats is attached to the wall. The slopes themselves are fixed with self-tapping screws or adhesive composition. All gaps formed should be well sealed with silicone. As a result, if the work is done accurately and efficiently, such slopes will look very impressive in any interior.

Step-by-step instructions for installing slopes

Finishing door slopes after installing the front door is carried out taking into account the dimensions of the door opening. It is important that this element of the door is particularly durable and reliable, since this element almost never changes, only when installing a new door, and, accordingly, they must have a long service life. Installation of slopes on the front door is carried out sequentially in several stages:
